RRVN - Take Four

Happy blog anniversary!

Remember, Remember the 5th of November.

4 years, 120,000 views later and I'm still here.

Can you believe I’ve had this thing for 4 years?

Granted lately I haven’t been as good keeping up with it as I was before. Honestly I don't know how I did it every day for that long.

But that’s probably good for you cause you don’t have to put up with my random ramblings 7 days a week. Now it’s just like twice a month. There you go, I did it for you.

Though I've slowed down a bit I still post about the important things.

In true blog anniversary fashion here are a few of my favorite posts from the past year.

1. Family Christmas: "It's alphabetical." "What from W to boobs?" "Are you sure you want to purchase Boobalicious for $10.95?"

IF YOU'RE GOING TO READ JUST ONE GO WITH THIS ONE
2. 1000th Post: Post #1000 My Top Library Moments of All Time "You looked all serious." "I am serious, I gotta get rid of this 7Up!"

3. People's Choice Awards: Nope, it's there forever. Like Maggie Smith and her tramp stamp. "Some of me are definitely dudes."

4. Golden Globes: "It's the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age." "Explosion at the wig factory" = alternate title for American Hustle

5. Life Mottos: Walk west 'til your hat floats Because everyone should have someone to scream at in a giant elephant.

6. Grammy Awards: Then I got sober and two robots called me and asked me to make an album. Could anyone understand the words coming out of Beyonce or Jay Z's mouths? It was like Ozzie up there. And then Ozzie was up there...and needed subtitles.

7. Sketch Meets the Parents: It's cold out and I'm not wearing pants, where are you? “What do you think of this dress?” “Stick some candles in it and make a wish?”

8. Trivia Night: I hope I go home with the right dwarfs Heigh ho.

9. Valentine's and Birthday: puck...puck...puck...i should probably move...yep, good plan. The lady in front of me ducked to save her beer. Priorities.

10. Vegas: Vegas Take Two "Take all the dam pictures you want."

11. Hockey/Attachments: "What do you call people who mouth the words when they read?" "Nerds?" We want milk!

12. Library Inservice: My librarian's spicy under-layer. "Think about how much time you spend managing your boobs."

13. Zombie Apocalypse: "The deaf guy's right, you are a nice lady." Yes, these are the thoughts that we have at work.

14. Zombie Apocalypse Part Two/LifeSize Game Day: Keep Calm and Flame On She watches a lot of Survivor and she's good at assembling Ikea furniture.

15. Motorcarring Take Two: We ain't got no room for boring. I'm wondering if they're actually decorative or if it's more like a giant rock monster died in their front lawn and they were too lazy to move them.

16. Librarian Problems: Do I wanna know why there's a bra in the lost and found? Merry unMother's Day.

17. Cher Concert: I hope you took your heart pills cause I'm coming out. I’ve been drinking this forever…Eisenhower was president.

18. Homey G Wigger/Sketch and Edit's Excellent Adventure: Hyvenese = Chinese for Hyvee Plus I had to save Bertha. Don’t ask.

19. Motorcarring Take Three/Paul McCartney Concert: Some people bring spare parts, Popper Boy brings spare cars. It had a picture of a ring with the subtitle: Your Girlfriend Wants Me.

IF YOU'RE GONNA READ TWO GO WITH THIS ONE
20. Camp J Highlights 2014: Hard to be a boy in a cabin named Sioux. Sounds like a car driving through a halftime show.

21. Camp J 2014 Skits: Eat a donut, write a ticket, hands in the air Soap Opera: …Me? You want to marry me? Oh Biff, I, I.... Game Show: ...am so sorry, that's the wrong answer.

22. Bats at the library: Balls to you sir, balls to you sir, up and down the court. Blow me east, blow me west, I like lots of wind.

23. Learn the symptoms of a stroke/Karmin concert: I would shoulder a twelve-year-old for you. That's love.

24. Fun times at the zoo/Staff Association/Hockey Signings and Tour: "Do you work here?" "No." "Oh, well there's a reindeer stuck in the tree." In the meantime I'm on the cheeseball committee.

25. Disney Overload: No one saying do this, no one saying be there, no one saying stop that, no one saying see here. "it starts with an S and the rest is fluff."

26. Sports Harder: "A field goal's like kissing your sister." They looked like something your grandmother would have bought you (like a bird sweater) and then he actually wore them.

27. Mentor: And I'm dying inside and nobody knows it but me. Living in a dream world is great, but sometimes you have to face reality and write letters to the important people in your life before it's too late.

28. Women's Murder Club: That's not coffee that's diabetes on ice. "That's how I ended up with a Rotato."

Continuing on, here are a few of my favorite things lately:

What's green and sings?

Elvis Parsley. That was a Library Judge addition.

Hey Ya - Troy Ritchie

Flashback to high school. I love his quirky style, especially at 0:42. Need to learn that move. It's stylin'.

Twelve Days of Christmas - Bob and Doug McKelvie

Don't look at me like that, it's November, I'm allowed to listen to Christmas music. Aren't you so proud I waited 'til after October to start?

Guess I'll have to add that one to my list to post for 12 Days of Christmas Music coming up in December. A whole 12 days of posting in a row. Perhaps I should go back to posting every day to prepare. I've got plenty of stuff to talk about.

Here's what you've missed since my last post in no order whatsoever.

Today at work was so bizarre. I climbed through a hole in the wall, turned a display into a giant turkey, and stuck mustaches on books. Let me explain.

The hole in the wall was to the garage which I knew we had but didn't know where it was or how to get to it. Turns out it got walled off cause we don't use it but there's still a hole you can go through to get to it. This was where the supervisor watched safely from the sideline as I got covered in spiderwebs and tripped over broken glass. We've been doing a lot of rearranging lately and we're looking for random odds and ends or more places to stash extra odds and ends.

The turkey thing is going in youth services. We have this giant triangle building block display and Superwoman wants us to turn it into a giant turkey so I recruited two of my TAB kids to help. It's a work in progress, but the head is done!

As for the mustaches it is Movember - a month dedicated to men's health - so I took all the YA books with faces on them and stuck mustaches of different colors and sizes on them, then put them all on display. It's got a lot of attention because it's located right between the stairs and the computer lab. I'm proud.

I know I'm highly entertaining.

What else?

October was filled with ups and downs, specifically one weekend in particular. On Friday we celebrated a wedding, on Monday we mourned at a funeral. Unfortunately it was for the same family as the wedding.

The wedding was fun. The boyfriend went with me - he used to be housemates with the groom. I know the groom from school, camp, and apparently we're related somewhere down the line. And he actually met his bride at camp so I knew her too! She is our nurse. They donated a dollar to camp for everyone at the wedding which I thought was amusing. The reception was lego themed and awesome. Each of the tables had a bowl full of legos for us to build stuff. The boyfriend built a spaceship, I built a house. I even got him to dance with me so it was great.

The funeral was not so amusing. Actually it was rather stressful, even before it started. The night before Mom had this idea of releasing balloons at the cemetery so she texted the new bride to see if it would be okay. The next morning she responded saying that the family loved the idea. Immediately after Mom woke me up - you know how much of an early morning person I am - I got dressed and we went to the pharmacy for balloons. We asked for 40 and they were like "only 40?" until we told them we needed them in like 10 minutes. It took 4 of them to get it done. Meanwhile mom and I went across the street to get breakfast. After the balloons were ready she took most of them in her car and I took the rest. We lost about 4 or 5 on the way over. Scared the crap out of me every time one popped cause they were right next to my head.

Note to self, next time whilst transporting balloons turn the heat/air conditioner vents in a different direction otherwise your balloons will pop. Figured that out halfway there.

Once we were there everything was fine. Well, as fine as it could be. The church was packed, as was the basement, so I was proud. He request was that we sing Someday - which has become a camp tradition since 2008. Since I'm the one who usually leads it at camp I led it there. Plus as she was my mentor I felt it was important for me to do something. It wasn't our best, granted everyone was looking at their feet. It became almost an unspoken rule not to look each other in the eye because we knew we'd lose it. As I had lost it twice during the service - we sang at the end - I only looked up when I had to cue people in and out. After the service we went to the cemetery. The Pastor said a few words and then we released our balloons. It was interesting because there was a treeline and I was scared they would hit the trees but almost a second before they shot straight up and over the trees like they were helped or something. I was glad I could help out as she meant a lot to me. Camp won't be the same without her.

Okay, as thinking about that gets me into over-analyzing my life mode let's move on to something more joyful.

Let's go with TAB, that's always fun. This month for our activity the teens recorded a podcast about their favorite books and their favorite TAB memories. I was quite proud they were able to expand more than just "it was cool" or "i liked the cover." They went into writing style, plot twists, and all that, plus they were very passionate while talking about TAB so that was good. Then of course Info-Man made me talk about how to join and our upcoming events. For your info our upcoming events include a books to movie marathon and a Mockingjay party. Similar to our Catching Fire party last year we're going to see it in theaters and then coming back for games and snacks. I have a crapton of trivia so we're going to divide them into teams through a "reaping" of sorts and then they have the opportunity for extra points if they get the question right by hitting a target with a nerf bow and arrow set.

Very exciting, I know you're all jealous.

What else? Halloween was last week. Myself and a bunch of my coworkers dressed up for work. I was a hockey player. Queen of the Known Universe was a Royals baseball player. The New Guy was a fireman - suspenders and hat included. Info-Man was a Ghostbusting vampire in that he wore a Ghostbusters t-shirt and vampire teeth. We took a picture - it's up on Facebook. As for after work, the boyfriend was off in Iowa riding motorcars with his dad so I went to my sister's. We drank wine and watched Rocky Horror and Young Frankenstein. Squirt was throwing a Halloween/birthday party so there were lots of teens around. I thought it was cool because instead of just watching movies they did a scavenger hunt. They went around taking pictures of themselves with certain things like spiders, pumpkin seeds, gravestones and all that and they got points for each thing. The last thing on the list was to turn themselves into a Mummy so she had tons of toilet paper at the house. Bubby was my favorite. Their toilet paper kept ripping so it took them a couple of tries. His partner was his girlfriend. I know, I feel so old. But I'm the cool aunt so I didn't tell any embarrassing stories. She seems nice.

Soon after Halloween was election day. Most of my people won. Except for governor. I don't like Pete Ricketts or his commercials so that's kind of a bummer. I listened to Mitt Romney Style while voting again. It's becoming a tradition.

On to Scale of Awesome's

Gone Girl

This movie was messed up. In the end they deserved each other, seriously, but we literally just sat in the theater and went what? Like what? It's a super long movie so you're waiting and waiting and waiting for stuff to happen and then it finally does and then it's suddenly done with a huge cliffhanger. I picked up the book at work and read the last couple pages and it's the same thing! Ugh. Scale of Awesome says 5/10.

**Spoiler alert** I thought for sure one of them would kill the other at the end. I was rooting for him to kill her, she's a sociopath, oh my god.

Fury

The boyfriend loves WW2 movies, but since he's a history buff he debunks them as we watch them. This one was apparently fine up until the ending, but I didn't care cause I thought it was great. I know everyone keeps saying all this crap about Shia being nuts, but he stole every scene. He was so good. Total method actor, though I guess he is a bit crazy since he pulled out his own tooth for the role. Whatever, Scale of Awesome says 9/10, I'll definitely watch it again.

Taking Chance

I'm not quite sure how I missed this one until now since it's recent and has Kevin Bacon in it. It must not have gotten a lot of advertising. I thought it was great, very emotional and cool to know what is all involved in the process and how respectful they are. Scale of Awesome says 7/10.

Last but not least here's my Voice Top 20. Well, what's left of it.

Damien - Adam - won battle – won knockout
James David Carter - Blake - won battle – won knockout

Kelli Douglas - Adam - eliminated in battles
Anita Antoinette - Gwen - won battle – won knockout
Luke Wade - Pharrell - won battle – won knockout

Toia Jones - Pharrell - stolen by Adam – lost in knockouts
Maiya Sykes - Phar
rell - eliminated in battles
Joe Kirk - Adam - eliminated in battles

Jessie Pitts - Gwen - stolen by Blake – won knockout
Taylor Phelan - Pharrell - won battle – stolen by Adam

Chris Jamison - Adam - won battle – won knockout
Mia Pfirrman - Adam - won battle – won knockout

Fernanda Bosch - Blake - eliminated in battles
Beth Spangler - Adam - stolen by Gwen – eliminated in knockouts
Matt McAndrew - Adam - won battle – won knockout

Taylor John Williams - Gwen - won battle – won knockout

Katriz Trinidad - Pharrell - won battle – eliminated in knockouts
Jean Kelley - Gwen - stolen by Pharrell – won knockout

Troy Ritchie - Gwen - won battle – lost in knockouts
Taylor Brashears - Blake - won battle – won knockout

My number 1 took out numbers 2 and 6, but the rest of my top few have been dominant. Adam has the strongest team going into the live shows by far since they're all 3 or 4 chair turns. Pharrell has Luke, enough said. James has dominated for Blake and I'm liking Taylor's chances as well. Number 21 on my list would have been Craig Wayne Boyd. He got stolen by Gwen then stolen back by Blake which was cool. I'm rooting for him as well. As usual the female coach has the weakest team. I don't know what it is but every year Christina, Shakira and now Gwen just get hosed by the male coaches.

And that's all I got. Here's to another year. Catch you on the B Side.

And I'm dying inside, and nobody knows it but me.

I mailed a letter this week.

Most nerve wracking document I've ever written.

Beating out COMPS, college term papers, applications to grad school, letters of recommendation for my teens, camp stuff.

Mostly because it's the most important thing I've written in a very long time. Possibly ever.

There's a reason I've been so focused on hockey and football and Disney music, and if you know me you probably already know what that reason is.

For those you who don't see me on a daily basis someone very important to me is sick and I'm not handling it very well.

I guess it's easier to focus on things like hockey and football, or spend four hours researching and posting Disney music than it is to face reality.

I've never been worried before because she's always been a fighter. No matter how many times it's come back she's fought it and won.

But it seems as though that's getting harder and harder.

I still have faith. I do. But it's a challenge. She's the best person I know. She doesn't deserve this.

I know she's not my mother, I have a wonderful mother, but outside of my immediate family I can't think of another person who's had as big of an impact on my life as her.

She's taught me everything from my ABC's to how to play guitar to how to run a camp to how to be a good person.

She's the whole reason I still do camp every year and without her there......I don't know. I don't want to think about it.

So I think about hockey. Last night's game rocked. Won it in a shootout. Ludvig Hoff is a stud. Can't believe they don't have peanuts anymore.

Or football. 5-0. Michigan State tonight. If we win we'll be top 10. If we lose I will be sad. Ameer is a stud. Hope Gregory doesn't leave us for the NFL.

Or Disney. Still can't believe my coworkers haven't seen The Little Mermaid. You can never be too old for Disney. Robin Hood and Sword in the Stone are my favorites. Unlike 99% of Americans I didn't like Frozen but I still think Idina Menzel is a stud. Can't believe they're making live action remakes. Well, I guess I can. But they better not be awful.

In summary: Living in a dream world is great, but sometimes you have to face reality and write letters to the important people in your life before it's too late. It also reminds me that I should take the time to thank the others who've had an impact on my life.

Gonna need some new stationary.

"Do you want to plant a seed? Of course you do, they're awesome."

Kickoff party today.

Holy crap man.

171 kids in 2 hours packed into a single area.

Mass hysteria.

And most of the hysteria was coming from me and had been all day when my Mentor went home sick.

And you knew it was bad for her to go home because she's been in charge of this thing for years.

Since my supervisor that was gonna help out wasn't part of the planning process Superwoman turns and says, "well, you're coordinator."

Of a massive Summer Reading Event with screaming tiny children and all that.

No pressure.

Luckily I had a rockstar crew.

My TAB kids, of course, who picked out the activities, then there was one of my adult volunteers - who's fantastic - as well as Superwoman, my other supervisor, two interns, an aide and about 5 various Summer Reading volunteers.

It rocked.

After I had stopped, you know, panicking.

Some of the fun activities that the kids did was fishing for bookmarks with magnet fishing poles, getting tattoos, making carrot hats, digging for glow-in-the-dark insects, making personalized license plates, and planting seeds.

Yes, planting seeds.

In paper towels and water and put in a ziplock bag.

Modeled after our mock ones that are still hanging in the window and have started growing.

And carrot hats.

Which are basically dunce caps with green streamers.

That we of course had to wear.

Along with another coworker who's in the library program with me - I shall call her my Comrade.

Superwoman took a picture and sent it to the Library Goddess.

So, Kickoff Party: Completed.

Success.

Next up: Library Golf.

That's gonna be an even bigger ball of stress.

After work met up with the boyfriend's family to celebrate three birthdays - his dad's, his brother's and his future brother-in-law's.

Had pasta, took half of it home, will probably eat the rest later tonight.

Why are leftovers always the best after midnight?

And that was my day.

In a nutshell.

"I'm being beaten up by a guy called Rupert?"

Question of the day: How many people drown when lifeguards run to them in slow motion?

Joking.

Been watching too much Wipeout.

Okay, sad fact.

It's 11:30 and I'm totally dead tired.

I'm not gonna make it 'til midnight.

Not that I'm aiming to, I'm just usually up til 1 or 2.

Cause I get distracted and then remember I have all this stuff to do - like post - and it's like midnight when I get to it.

Which explains why this morning was awful.

Fell asleep last night around 3.

I don't even know why, I just couldn't get comfortable.

My back is still messed up.

The boyfriend gave me a massage and it's still out of whack.

Should probably do something about it but don't have the time.

Cause tomorrow is the kickoff party!!

I'm gonna die.

Holy crap, I'm nervous.

Like last year, I helped, but I wasn't in charge.

This year I came up with the list of activities for the kids to choose from, I cleared everything with the bosses, shopped for all the supplies, collaborated with outside sponsors, put everything together, came up with the flyers, and now I'm freaked that I'm missing something.

Though that's what my mentor's around for, she and I went over everything in the afternoon.

Quote of the day:
"Such a random combination for a closet, you've got coats, a laptop, and buckets of sand?"

Aside from all that planning chaos the second floor still looks like a crime scene.

Here's our computer lab currently.

Photo: Crime scene

The tape is appropriate, but it's a process.

Basically what's going on is we're getting new computers with a grant so our old computers are getting moved to the back corner where the biographies used to be for a computer classes/staff training lab. The new ones are gonna go where the old ones were, except without the raised floors and fishbowl walls.

However, the new computers aren't in yet.

So in the meantime the patrons are using our staff lab over in the back corner, but still have to sign in in the regular spot.

And the staff lab has the walls up around it.

But I think they're different walls than before.

Or there are less of them or something, I don't know.

It looks a lot smaller than it did.

Like I said it's a process.

A very long and delayed process that started about 2 years ago with Fearless Leader in charge.

Aaannd now she's been gone for over a year.

So that was my workday. Along with some more training.

Tonight the boyfriend came up - yes more storms and rain, that's what like 5 days in a row now?

Or is it 6?

We watched Lockout.

Scale of Awesome says 6/10.

I do like Guy Pearce.

And it was nice seeing him as the good guy after seeing him go all psycho crazy on Iron Man 3.

It had its moments but that trailer is completely misleading.

Snow actually gets betrayed by his own team and gets forced to go on this mission or he'll be stuck in that prison.

As opposed to the trailer saying people recommended him for it.

Langral: I don't like hurting you, Snow.
Snow: Is that why you're having him do it?
Langral: I can have Rupert bludgeon you all night.
Snow: I'm being beaten up by a guy called Rupert?

Snow: Ok, see here on the map?
Emilie Warnock: Yeah.
Snow: That's where the pod is. You get in it, you fly away. The good guys will come and get you, ok?
Emilie Warnock: On my own?
Snow: You're a big girl, right? Here's an apple and a gun. Don't talk to strangers, shoot them.

And that was my night.

Now I'm gonna fall asleep watching some Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

Cause it's taking over my DVR.

Marathons are good, except when you get behind on watching them. Then it's just an overload.

Song of the day:

Someone That You're With - Nickelback

bet that video took a long time to put together.

yeah, yeah, i know, it's a Nickelback song and they're awful.

but i like this one and used to listen to it all the time in high school.

besides, he's married to Avril Lavigne so he can't be that bad...right?

*cough* right.

out at 11:59, holy crap tag in use.

Day off = NCIS:LA, Napping, Homework, & Lords of the Realm 2

Was totally boring today, it was fantastic.

Slept in until noon, ate a peanut butter and banana sandwich cause they rock.

Watched NCIS: LA pretty much all day. Still am, in fact. Got season three from Target, I actually like the show now. Before I thought it was dumb cause it wasn't the original but now with Deeks it's not so bad.

Played some Lords of the Realm 2 on Kate cause she's XP and it won't work on Ziva with Vista. They need to remake that one. And Carmen Sandiego. That one is still wildly popular, they had the series, then the animated one, and they're in talks of making a movie but it still the old version from pre-2007 and you have to get in online cause it's not in stores.

Made some pasta stuff for supper, that also rocks.

Took a nap with my big fat cat. It's no wonder my back is messed up, I can't go a night without him sleeping on my stomach. It's both cute and obnoxious. Mentor suggests buying a heating pad and putting it elsewhere on the bed to see if he would sleep on top of that.

Finished all my homework for the week. Had a Reference assignment due tomorrow at midnight but as I'm headed out to see the boyfriend tomorrow night it was tonight or fail. Which is fine, I had planned it out earlier anyway and it's best not to procrastinate in grad school or it will kick your ass.

Now it's more NCIS: LA and sleep as tomorrow it's back to work.

But since I work the weekend I don't have to go in Monday until 4.

It feels so weird to actually stay home and work the weekend. I feel like I'm always going somewhere like class or the farm. I haven't been home home for a weekend in a while.

I know, I'm boring. I'm sorry. I'll have more to post about tomorrow.

For now, enjoy this classic.

she walks like she talks and she talks like she walks...

Short day today at work, went in at 11:35, had a lunch break somewhere around 2, got done at 6:05.

Super slow today, mostly cause there was no parking due to a very loud and crowded event on the street directly outside the library.

Queen of the Known Universe was not amused.

Even though the crowd was slow the day actually moved by fairly quickly.

And I got to work with some of my favorite people, Slim Shady, Queen of the Known Universe, Girlscout, Mentor - there's usually just five of us on Sundays, though today it got cut down to 4 at around 3 since Mentor headed out for the Summer Reading event at the Saltdogs game.

At least it was nice weather for them, I was worried it was going to rain.

So yes, my day was fine and normal and then I check my phone and read that Grams is in the ER cause she fell twice.

So I called all frantic and the Cool Aunt and Mom and Grams are sitting around laughing it up attempting to distract her with funny relative stories. Apparently no injuries, just a walker for the prescription which...okay Grams is a tough woman and a bit stubborn so when I heard that I laughed because I knew that she would be ticked.

Like seriously ticked.

"He's gonna get it back in his face" ticked.

Sorry, favorite quote of hers though I'm pretty sure Mom was mortified when she yelled it at the de-suited Santa.

Go here: She deserved the truck and a load to go with it.

Hey, the woman hates spinach.

Lay off.

Anyway, so I stopped by after work.

The beauty of Alzheimer's - notice it's just "the" as there's really only one - is that she also forgets the bad stuff so by that time she was over the whole ER waiting for the doctor to sign off thing.

Mom said that I needed to talk up the walker so I commented on it's red-and-shiny-ness.

She was less than enthused about it.

And attempted to pawn it off on me as I left, but that's a longer story.

We decided today at work that I'm screwed.

On one side I've got Alzheimer's and the other I've got dementia.

So basically I'll be seeing horses in the chicken coop but forgetting about them a few minutes later.

Hopefully I've got some time before that takes over.

My brother, on the other hand, just turned the big 4-0.

It's birthday season in our family, there's 3 in August and 2 in September. To celebrate the August birthdays we - my siblings and I - hit up a Saltdogs game. The boys prefer it to be dollar hotdog night - one year my brother got 4 hotdogs and ate 2 of them by the time he got back to the chair.

But that's always fun, pretty sure you've got 2 entries on here alone talking about our exploits - "love mom" - and then one on Oldest Sister's blog as well.

Alright, emotional rollercoaster of a day and seriously, I'm on a roll because I don't go in until 4 tomorrow so there's been a lot of actual sleep lately which rocks cause I feel like I'm finally getting over the madness that was camp.

Clip of the day:

cause i find it amusing, especially the bus driver dance at the end.

love the background music. that's niiice.

"Politics is the art of postponing a decision until they are no longer relevant"

Watched "Red Tails" with the boyfriend tonight.

It was incredibly cheesy.

Even for George Lucas.

And I say that in the nicest possible way, I'm a Star Wars nerd.

But even that has moments of cheesiness.

It was interesting because if you closed your eyes you could still hear Star Wars.... if that makes sense, I don't know there was a lot of shooting and flying vehicles and all that.

Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard did fairly well, but they weren't in it all that much.

I like Daniela Ruah from NCIS:LA so it was interesting seeing her in a non-English-speaking role.

And I mean it was a good story, it was, it's just that okay *SPOILER ALERT* like none of them died.

Until the end.

But they were rookie pilots pulling crazy stunts against experienced ones with better planes.

Even the one whose plane leaked gas and caught fire when it crash-landed survived.

He was like, "wait, is one of them really going to die?"

Nope.

Eventually yes, but even the dialogue was cheesy. There were a lot of moments when I stopped watching and was like, really?

Scale of Awesome says about 4/10. There were some good lines, and they meant well, so I've got to give them something, you know?

They just didn't pull it off.

So that was a bit disappointing, but at least I got to see the boyfriend since he was gone this weekend and he'll be gone again this upcoming weekend.

Now I'm back to delayed olympics - US women's basketball just beat China, and US women's volleyball is currently up one set to Turkey.

Work was better today, I didn't screw up as often as yesterday so that's a bonus. Made a lot of progress on a booklist that got back-burnered because of camp and other library-related stuff, mostly Summer Reading. But now that's okay, well it's supposed to be over but apparently we're still handing out prizes until like Winter.

Which is fine, I don't want to turn kids away, I'm all about kids in the library, but now things have slowed down enough that I can focus on the fact that TAB is starting soon and that I'm still completely unprepared. Hopefully Thursday will help, we're getting together for TAM, which I've learned stands for "Thursday Afternoon Meeting".

Though it usually says "TAM Meeting" on the schedule so kind of kills that whole abbreviation thing with redundancy.

Anyway, I'm going to flail to the fellow leaders of TAB - aka other branch leaders - and ask them for advice on activities and meetings. I have lots of tips from Mentor but she's encouraged me to talk to others as well so learn about their different approaches.

So I can find one that works for me, basically.

But they're good kids and actually show up for meetings and participate so I'm grateful.

Alright, enough about that, I'm gonna crash. Starving actually, just realize I haven't eaten anything since that polish dog at lunch. Should probably work on that, popsicles or something. That's basically all that's in my fridge since I emptied it out before camp and haven't went shopping since.

I think there's some icecream cake in there from my birthday, should probably toss that.

Which just reminds me that I'm old.

Well, older than I was February 18th, I don't know where I'm going with this. Gonna get food and watch some more olympics before I crash.

Song of the day:

"Pontoon" Little Big Town
too catchy for its own good.

3 days in a row with legitimate pre-11:50 times, what's wrong with this picture?

don't hand me no lines and keep your hands to yourself...

Saw some old friends at church this morning.

Kid I grew up with who's getting married soon and my Delayed...Reaction partner who is going to make a teen camp appearance, but just for a day. Probably not enough time to write a song and film it, but it'll still be fun to jam out for a while.

We didn't write a song last year, as he is all grown up and married now I'll have to find a new partner and revamp D...R.

Cause it's just not D...R without him.

He's the Hamilton to my Jane Fraser, seriously man.

Anyway, after that was the extended family extravaganza.

And I'm awful because I could maybe tell you the names of about 10 people there total and they all sat at my table.

Except my great aunt.

But we had fun, joked around with my brother, favorite (and only) sister-in-law and their kids, plus my mentor, parentals, and my uncle the artist and his wife.

Gotta send a shout-out his way as he actually reads this thing.

Got some good advice from him and his wife today about the stress madness that will be this fall/spring.

I'll get through it, got a lot of people rooting for me.

After that it was all HeeHaw.

For serious, I went home and worked on skits and then Dad got there and was like, "I taped a bunch of HeeHaw episodes and have them set up for you."

He neglected to mention that "a bunch" meant 62 episodes, all set so that when I hit play they immediately started the "where oh where" skit.

He either really loves me or he really loves HeeHaw.

I got through about half of them and left with about 15 minutes of HeeHaw recordings on my phone.

It would have been 20 but my phone went, "seriously?" and decided to freeze instead.

Anyway, spent about an hour listening and typing them up, plus transcribing the ones that Dad had already written out.

I didn't know it was possible to have worse handwriting than my own.

Even Mentor makes fun of my handwriting and she was the one that taught me how to write in the first place!!

My Kindergarten-like 3rd grade teacher (plus art and english after that) now turned fellow camp Skits & Worship leader.

Who keeps wanting to pass the baton, but I will have none of it.

Cause she will forever be the mentor.

We attempted to write a song last year and ended up with just another verse to "Oh Lord of Light".

You can read 2G's version of that here: My Life in Closed Captions: 2G's version of Oh Lord of Light

Not the one we taught the kids, but it's the one that 2G took away from the experience.

Speaking of 2G, the golf tourney is quickly approaching. It's on man, we practiced and everything. I even bought some tall tees and bright yellow Spongebob golf balls.

Because he annoys me which will motivate me to beat him to a pulp and hit him farther.

Alright, I'm all skits'd out. I'll finish them tomorrow.

Or the next day.

Or Thursday night like always.

But that's okay cause I'll be there earlier this year and I'll bring my printer like last year. So much easier to pass out copies when you have more than one.

"Keep Your Hands To Yourself" Georgia Satellites

song just reminds me of Sweet Home Alabama

"you have a baby. in a bar."

Gonna turn on some Wipeout and crash.

Ha.

You can take the girl out of the honky tonk, but you can't take the honky tonk out of the girl.

Freakin' Birds.

What a weirdass day.

No, seriously, what a weirdass day.

Where do I begin?

Woke up with still no air-conditioning so I got to call that in. Luckily our maintenance people are fantastic and it was fixed by the time I got home, needed a new fan or something.

Go to work, first thing was the staff meeting. Got to explain the prizes for the teen's summer reading program. They get a free betta fish. How cool is that? And ice cream and Saltdogs tickets and Amigos coupon, etc.

So that was fine.

Everything at work was fine up until like 10. Which is when the staff meeting ended and we opened.

After that I was toast.

Dropped an entire stack of DVDs, discs flying everywhere. That was smooth.

I screwed up telling patrons due dates twice. And I only helped two patrons at the desk that hour.

Though I did get it right immediately after I screwed it over.

But still, obnoxious. I just figured it was cause I was caffeine-less. So I went for a Mountain Dew assuming all will be healed.

...
...
...

All was not healed.

Okay.

So here's the kicker.

Off-desk hour, usually I spend stocking supplies. Which was my intended goal, so I walk into the backroom and it was just like any other time I walk in the backroom you know daily - actually like 8 times daily - except this time I look over and there's a bird sitting on one of the bookdrop carts.

Me, thinking this is a prank because there's a fake bird somewhere in the building and I know that cause it scared the crap out of me the first time, decide to go check it out.

And I'm walking and I get closer and then... it moved.

I freaked.

Ran to the safety of Queen of the Known Universe and Info-Man at the front desk.

They proceeded to make fun of me.

And told me to call animal control/Superwoman as she was the supervisor on duty that hour.

But she was at lunch, and it was just a bird, so I went with the guard instead.

This guard is a big tall guy, fought in wars, knows lots about weapons and all that so I figured I was safe.

We go to the backroom and devise a plan. Clear a path to the outside door - which was propped open cause the delivery man was there - and scare him towards it.

Sounds like a fine plan, right?

Problem is that birds are uncooperative.

The guard walked towards it making loud noises and waving his arms and the freakin' thing flies STRAIGHT AT ME! Who was standing NOWHERE NEAR THE DOOR WE WERE ATTEMPTING TO LEAD IT TO.

So I'm like crouched in a corner screaming bloody murder, the guard starts chasing the bird around the backroom, it flies all over the place except the direction we want it, and leaving messes wherever it goes - disgusting and I'll get there I promise - finally it flies into the back hallway. Which is good cause that's halfway to the door.

Then it decides to hide in a corner.

At that point I stayed the heck away from the back hallway. Now I just hear the guard yelling, bird wings flapping, and the delivery guy laughing his ass off. I round the corner, still freaking out, and see the door slam with the bird on the other side of it.

Goal.

But oh my god.

Seriously.

So, I go out to the desk still a bit freaked, actually I was basically freaked for the rest of the day but for various other reasons, and Info-Man hits me with "now we know what you're afraid of" implying there will be pranks.

Which I'm prepared for, I had a prank war going with Glee-Loving Boss until I moved to the work branch full time.

But the thing is I'm not scared of birds.

I'm just not a fan of them flying in my direction.

Which I explained to BossLady when she returned from lunch - not Superwoman, BossLady aka my immediate supervisor. I give her a tour of the backroom and all the places the bird went and she resolved to cleaning it up....after she chased me with it. Long story.

I refused to touch it cause I was still in that freak-out mindstate so I followed her around the room and handed her sanitizing wipes. Meanwhile the intern was laughing.

There was a lot of laughing about the incident.

I can now.

I told Mentor "it scared the crap out of me."
and she came back with "it scared the crap out of him too."

Anyway, the rest of the day like every time I opened a door or my locker I paused expecting stuff to fly out at me.

And sadly, that's not the end to the weirdness of today.

So I was in charge of the teen summer reading program today aka "Monster 'Dos" where the College of Hair Design people came and gave a bunch of kids colored hair and scary hairdos that they'll go home, scare their parents with and the parents will probably come back next time and be like, what the heck were you thinking?

Anyway, so I introduced a couple of my TAB kids who talked about TAB and joining and all the stuff we do.

I've seriously had 5 new members within the past two weeks.

And of course we don't meet again until September so there's gonna be a lot of reminder emails and phone calls after the summer.

The event went off without a hitch, and as there was time at the end the kids talked me into getting my hair colored.

Now I have orange lightning bolts with green stars.

They rock and I'm keeping them for the game tomorrow. Gonna rock it out at the stadium.

And since I had to do it we talked Mentor and another one of my youth services supervisors who I joke around a lot with - she's the one I always show my torn up leg to after I play softball cause she screams and tells me to wear pants - into doing it. She got pink hair and Mentor got a green star.

A lot of the little kids got some pretty crazy big hair but I'm not so big on that. Sticking with the lightning bolts and stars for now.

Which reminds me I gotta get my hair dyed before camp. They won't recognize me without it.

And my sideway hat.

Okay, so after work there's rain and hail and major wind, lots of lightning and thunder, actually still doing it. Hope I get this posted before the power goes out or something.

But I managed to get all my homework done and posted and I'm good until class on Saturday.

Will sleep well tonight with my air-conditioner fixed, though I'm guessing I'll have nightmares about birds or something.

Feel like my aunt.

One of the "favorite aunties" is deathly afraid of birds.

Probably partially my father's fault. He used to talk the other "favorite auntie" into chasing her with chickens when they were little.

Speaking of fun aunties, get to jam tomorrow with the Cool Aunt and my two cousins as we're going to the OPENING GAME for the COLLEGE WORLD SERIES! Woohoo!

It'll probably rain, it always does. First year we went and there was a 2 hour rain delay, but last year it only rained a little in the morning and then it was great all day.

Game starts at 4 but we like to go early, hit all the booths, walk around and take pictures. Oh yeah, gotta charge my camera.

So I'm working for two hours tomorrow then taking off to change, grab the camera, and meet up with them.

Stoked.

I need some new shirts.

Oh, irony of the day?

Was wearing a Batman shirt today.

Was tragically scared of winged creatures and totally not a superhero.

Will do better tomorrow.

I know, this post was super long compared to most recent ones. And, if you didn't read the above madness I'll sum it up for you now:

Bird in the Backroom
Not cool - Bird flies at you.
Cool - Guard comes to rescue.
Not cool - Bird poop all over.
Cool - Supervisor cleans up poop so I don't have to.
Not cool - Supervisor proceeds to chase me with said poop.
Cool - Anecdote to tell at work.
Not cool - Coworkers threaten bird pranks.

And then some stuff about lightning bolts and stars and storms and the college world series opener tomorrow.

There you go.

When you grow a pear you can call me back.

Finally caved and bought "Goin' Through the Big D" by Mark Chesnutt.

Stuck in my head and driving me nuts.

What did I do today?

Um. Homework.

Well, work first. Then read a lot for homework at lunch.

Um, at work I signed a lot of people up for library cards. Weird thing they all had February birthdays as I kept finding myself saying, "February, great month for a birthday."

What else?

Umm... came up with some posters for Thursday's Summer Reading Teen Event that I'm sorta kinda in charge of. Though I'm dragging Mentor with me cause I know I'll flail and she's the expert. Hair Design students are coming in and giving the kids some Monster Hairdo's to go with the Own the Night theme. Should be fun. So I hung those up all over the place.

Umm... oh got Dark Shadows Collection 1 on DVD through Interlibrary Loan. So far, awesomely cheesy. Thinking about bringing it to Camp J. Halfway through the first disc.

Which reminds me I haven't had a chance to properly review Dark Shadows. Will do that this week. The more I read about it the more I love it. I wanna watch it again to see if Elizabeth is wearing a key necklace and who Barnabas greets at the door during the party. Apparently - oh spoiler alert - Elizabeth killed her husband and wears the key around her neck, and the surviving main characters of the original Dark Shadows make guest appearances at the party. Jonathan Frid's last film, died like a month later.

He looks so young in Dark Shadows,  I was expecting for him to be older. But it's good, I may buy it off Amazon when the collection is re-released in July.

What else? Wrote out the paper due Thursday but waiting to post it until I get citation questions answered by the Library Goddess she's the pro. I could normally do them in my sleep but my main question is if the title includes a ? does it need a . after the ? ?

Guess we'll see.

Popsicles and popcorn for supper.

And that's pretty much today.

More tomorrow.

"Grow a Pear"  Ke$ha or K-E-dollar sign-Ha as on Glee

i'm just not hooked on your phonics. seriously love the melody lyrics and rhythm to this one.

Tomorrow's Word of the Day: "Hoghenhine" a member of one's family.

Weird.

Bat Goggles man, they're all the rage.

I made it through the kickoff party!!

Still alive and breathing and functional and not like crying in a corner.

Today rocked, for serious man.

Morning flew by pretty quickly, but that's mostly because I was all over the place and freaking out the whole time. After lunch Mentor and I prepped for the kickoff itself, setting up tables and supplies, but she's a pro so she had the gameplan.

Some of our TAB kids came early to help set up, cause they're awesome like that.

The theme this year is "Dream Big" so our tables were stargazing, gold coin toss, paper lanterns, edible campfires, sparkling stars, bat tattoos and then of course registration and Bat Goggles.

Never in my life have I seen people so excited about wearing bats on their heads.

But they rocked.

So, I subtly said to Superwoman, hey, you should get the staff to wear these.

And I swear BossLady wanted my head on the platter.

Cause Superwoman was all over it.

So I took a picture of the two of us with them on, it rocks.

Actually I took a lot of pictures, but I'm not in this weekend so I won't get them uploaded and sent to our webmaster until Monday.

Which is probably bad, but they have some posted already from other people.

Especially the ones with Runza Rex.

Oh yeah, Runza Rex was there.

If you're not from Nebraska you probably have no idea what I'm referring to.

Here.

That's Runza Rex.

And some random little girl.

With a doll.

Anyway, yes, he's a giant dinosaur that is the mascot for a restaurant called Runza that's only in Nebraska.

So we had this giant mascot in the corner and people taking pictures with him. And I made the TAB kids take pictures with him, they were thrilled.

Actually they didn't seem to mind it so much, I took a lot of them helping out the kids, and we took a group picture at the end. It was like the ultimate passing of the baton when Mentor took the picture instead of being in it.

Which I don't like, I don't do well with batons. I've refused to take it from Liz for how many years at Camp J now? Nope, she will forever be the Britney Spears to my, whoever I am. I don't know, we just always laugh because her microphone looks like Britney's.

Though Mentor's been training me to take the baton on this one since January.

Which I think I can handle. We're not meeting again until September so I'll have primo time to plan.

First up when we meet again is decorating the YA area with some colorful art. Feels like the only white wall in the building and they want to make it stand out. I'm thinking sketches and paintings and all that. Got it cleared with the Boss, but I'll figure out specifics later.

So anyway, Bat Goggles, yes, they rocked. And the staff present loved them. Except for BossLady, but she pulled them off pretty well. Maybe I'll pull them out on Monday when I go back. Maybe that'll keep the creepers away. They'll think I'm creepy and be drawn to someone else for the day.

What else? Oh yeah, Squirt had a volleyball tournament so she had to leave the party early. I stopped by for her last couple games, they dominated. Don't think they lost a set all night. She rocks, glad she's playing with some good girls this time. This is with the high schoolers, she's playing with a bunch of JV-ers. But the high school she's going to has a Varsity, JV, Reserve and Freshman team. So pretty sure she's got a good chance of making it.

Tomorrow is Children's Lit with the Library Goddess so I should crash soon. Gotta stop for coffee on the way there, that's what I'm the favorite. And probably why she's making me her grad assistant. She does have a serious coffee addiction.

The tattoos covering my arms will probably stand out, but whatever. I think they're cool.

"Oh Happy Day" Sister Act 2

stuck in my head constantly. probably the best part of the movie. aside from the end concert. love the sequel, perhaps more than the original. though both are good. they should bring it back for a third round. she could be at a college this time. they did turn it into a musical, they could do anything.

though now when i hear that song i think of this as well. Mike and Molly - Oh Happy Day
i so love victoria.

"he taught me, he taught me HO-OW!"

Cause I love you, Yes I love you!

I conformed to the norm today at work.

It was physically painful.

See, I'm an English snob.

Not all the time.

But there are moments that bring out the snob in me, if that makes sense?

It's okay though, I'm in good company for this stuff.

Anyway, Snob Moment:

For Summer Reading we have all these bookmarks. For the youth there's "Bats at the Library", Teens is all about "Own the Night", and then the adult theme is "Between the Covers" which I find amusing.

Anyway, there are two designs for the adult bookmarks. One is from Gone with the Wind and the other is from Frankenstein.

My conformity was this, I've officially adopted the speech, "you can either get Scarlett O'Hara reading about Frankenstein, or Frankenstein reading about Scarlett O'Hara."

My snob moment is this: Frankenstein is the doctor, not the creature.

So technically, it would be The Creature reading about Scarlett O'Hara.

But explaining that to people just leaves them wide-eyed and confused, and I've found it's just easier to call him Frankenstein instead of saying, "The Creature created by Frankenstein reading about Scarlett O'Hara."

He was never officially given a name, Frankenstein sewed him up using recycled parts, brought him to life, and watched him kill people.

Meanwhile only referring to him as "The Creature."

Anyway, conforming to the norm, physically painful, yet probably worth it in the long-run.

It was one of those days though. And it wasn't just me, it seemed that about 90% of library employees today were having one of those days.

Though I made it through unscathed, the day was filled with minor flailing.

Okay so it was major flailing.

Which really isn't all that unusual on my part, but still not exactly pleasant.

So Slim Shady and I did what we do best. Zenned out on her couch and watched a marathon of Parks and Rec.

It was originally going to be Booze Cakes, but in the end there was neither booze, nor cake, just laziness and some comfy couches.

Plus Fearless Leader wasn't there and she's really the baker out of the three of us.

We gotta find a day that all three of us have the next day off and that we're all free. Which is nearly impossible, but hopefully one day soon it will happen. That Mudslide Cake thing was awesome.

I still have the urge to go see Dark Shadows again. Queen of Awesome and I gotta get on that. I'm thinking next week. Or maybe this weekend. I have class on Saturday, I KNOW! 8:30 AM which means I have to leave at 7.

Not that I'm complaining.

It'll be worth it, the Library Goddess is always worth it, I'm just not a morning person.

Speaking of morning people, I need to crash and quick. Kickoff is tomorrow and Mentor and I are gonna be swamped for about 4 hours straight. Plus all the morning stuff we have to do beforehand.

Songs of the day:

"Nights in White Satin" Moody Blues

oh my god i love this song. before dark shadows i'd never heard it before but i've been singing it every day since. it was at almost the very beginning, well 1972 very beginning when Maggie Evans becomes Victoria Winters and rides with the "unshaven young people" the Collinsport.

perfect song at the perfect moment.

"Top of the World" Carpenters

though i sing this one as well, which bugs me cause it's one of those songs like "it's a small world afterall" that if you sing it over and over it makes you want scream.

Tomorrow's Word of the Day: "Vimineous: a rare adjective meaning 'made of wicker'. From a Latin word meaning 'willow'."

"Who throws a shoe? Honestly?"

"You fight like a woman!"

Just another Manic Monday.

Though I did get to jam for a few hours with the new super awesome supervisor. Who I have yet to nickname.

I'm working on it.

8 hours of public service later and I'm home.

And that was pretty much my day.

Mom brought me green socks.

Squirt came to volunteer. Showed off her crafty skills, made some crafty stuff for TAB.

Mentor came back from her vacation, I think I actually made her proud. The Underdog rises.

Speaking of Underdogs, we watched Austin Powers tonight - after the Voice. I haven't seen the movie in years.

Years.

The first time I saw it was with my cousins. We actually watched it literally 4 times in a row. Maybe more.

Same movie.

Over and over.

So much so that I memorized the entire first half, so it was amusing quoting it in my head. Though I've lost quite a bit of it, I still have the best lines memorized.

"That was a pre-emptive 'sh!' Just know I have a whole bag of 'sh!' with your name on it."

But I remember us in my aunt's basement all spread out on the floor watching it over and over. Then playing Street Fighter. I called the blonde chick Hoku - even though that wasn't her name, but that's who she reminded me of. Then proceeded to get my butt wooped as they were good and I was not.

"Well they should, those filthy buggers, they go from port to port."

The second one I don't really have any memories of, but I saw the third movie in theaters with my sisters, and I'll never forget this because I remember they both went to the bathroom in the middle of the movie.

But like, Second Sister left and then Oldest Sister left, and in the meantime Second Sister came back and she was wearing these flipflops that we had made fun of her for. And apparently some chick in the next stall to Oldest Sister was also wearing flipflops and she was tempted to say, (but thankfully didn't as that would have been super awkward), "Are those your damn flipflops?"

It kind of became a one-liner in our family, though we haven't said it in a while. I'll bring it back.

There are a lot of one-liners in my family.

Another famous one includes, "People are EATING here!" I was little and obnoxious and either singing or dancing or perhaps both, and Oldest Sister and her husband used to take me places. We were at some resteraunt and I was singing/dancing whatever, being obnoxious, and my brother in law looks over and says, "People are EATING here!"

I think you had to be there for that one.

But it has evolved now to people are sleeping here, people are studying here, people are etc. here.

Though another great one - most of our one-liners do come from him - was, okay I was little - again - and he was like my bestest friend in the whole entire world. And we used to play "bestest treasure" in which he would find like a rock or pinecone or something and claim it was his bestest treasure and I couldn't have it. And then I'd con him into giving it to me - though now that I'm old I realize that he was con artist - and then it would be my bestest treasure, and he had to find a new one.

Anyway, so the one-liner kind of evolved from that. I used to have a lot of cats, well at the farm there were a lot of random cats. And I loved them, cause they were my random cats. And so he said that the cats were his.

And I yelled "everything on the ground is mine!"

And then he pointed to one that was in the tree, and I yelled "everything on the ground and in the trees is MINE!"

And he asked what if they were jumping from the tree to the ground, which led me to change my theory to "everything on the ground and in the trees and in the sky is MINE!"

And yeah, that stuck.

But I was little and cute.

So deal with it.

"They are mutated sea bass."

Alright, I'm out. Exhausted. Long day tomorrow.

Clip of the night:

Why don't I take the stairs?

It's amusing how much Elizabeth Hurley reminds me of Jaime Murray as HG Wells. Though HG has much better fighting skills, sorry Vanessa.

"What kind of shell has a nut like this?"

Song of the night, go here: Ming Tea's "BBC" BBC Seven! BBC Heaven!aka Austin Powers' fake band

They also perform "Daddy Wasn't There" in the third movie.

"Why don't you fly down to the maternity ward and scare some children?!"

To Dodge and back twice in two days.

Not my favorite place, but I'll bear with it for my family.

Though yesterday's was mostly by mistake, long story.

Today was interesting.

Squirt is an accomplished volleyball player and today her team won the championship.

Though it wasn't her regular team, it was like a combination of the best players from random teams put together to dominate and they succeeded.

And keep in mind, she's 14 and was asked to play in a 17-year-old tournament.

Just saying.

I'm proud.

After that we hit up Dragon Palace for some Chinese buffet and "suspicious" egg-drop soup that they said was more like pudding. That's what made it suspicious.

And now I'm home, exhausted and lying on the couch.

I'm starting to agree with Girlscout's theory of mono instead of strep.

Which is crap cause I've already had it once.

Shouldn't I be immune to it by now?

Will have to talk to the Second Sister about that as she's the doctor in the family.

All I know is I'm still exhausted, and I shouldn't still be exhausted cause it's been like weeks.

At work I can fake being fine, but here I just crash.

So, I'm going to bed.

Yes, I'm aware it's like 8:30.

And that makes me completely lame, but I can't miss anymore work. I have a lot of stuff to do this week. Mostly Summer Reading-related, plus Mentor comes back this week and I have a lot of dumb questions that she'll have the smart answers to.

You know, actually, Farrah Fawcett and Cheryl Ladd look/act semi-similar. I could see them as sisters. So the show is semi-believable. Right?

I mean, aside from the fact that it's not whatsoever.

I lost count on the exploding cars tally, there are too many of them to keep track of.

Though the random banter and fake stunts is still highly entertaining.

Especially in this episode, Bosley is in the hospital with a roommate who might be the criminal they're after and their nurse is kind of a take-no-prisoners kind of lady.

Bosley: "Are you suggesting that I expose my posterior to a total stranger?"
Nurse: "Well, once you've done it we won't be total strangers, will we?"
Bosley: "Madam, you are a sadist."

One of the best shows in history, you can hate it but its legacy lives on!

Off to bed for me.

Here's some music for you.

"Who Are You?" The Who

oh my god, i love this video. super retro, and keith dancing whilest playing drums makes me laugh. i enjoy his monogrammed shirt and the tape on his headphones.

Nurse: "You know if I was around you much more I would give you poison."
Bosley: "If you were around oftener HE'D TAKE IT!"

"It's funny cause it's true"

How much crap can I have accumulated in two years?

Seriously?

I moved from my makeshift desk upstairs, to an actual desk downstairs and it took like three whole carts back and forth to get it all moved.

But it's not my fault!

Cause it's all the supplies and TAB stuff!!

None of it was mine!!

Well.

The snack-age was mine.

Gotta have some girlscout cookies in the drawer.

Poptarts.

Maybe some animal crackers.

But the rest was all library!!

Not that it's a problem, though it was interesting making everything fit into three drawers and then improvising with some TAB stuff to get it all jammed into a box under the desk.

I miss my shelves.

But I'll live.

I like it down there actually, it's quiet and there's space.

Plus I'm right next to Slim Shady, across from Fearless Leader and Mentor, and cady-corner to the Queen of the Known Universe.

So how can you go wrong there?

Though, if all of us were down there at once I don't know how much work would get done, they are highly entertaining.

Even when they're falling out of chairs.

Slim Shady and I have decided to deck out our area with our random signage.

We do a lot of displays, AND I'M PROUD OF MY SPUNKY OLD LADIES MONTH DISPLAY SIGN!

It will live eternally.

Joyful and triumphant.

But you gotta make your desk your own.

Today felt a bit like my first day back, as I was sick and/or out of it most of last week.

I was even professional, making two different very professional phone calls that I've been putting off and can't any longer. AND THE ONE DUDE ANSWERED!

Which is crap, and totally threw me off.

Cause he never answers.

And I enjoy leaving him a voicemail cause it's quick and painless.

I can't say that about the second dude though.

Summer Reading is quickly approaching and I still haven't heard anything since initial contact.

But I'm a nerd.

And I get nervous.

Fearless Leader said I was very professional leaving a message for the Summer Reading dude.

Gonna have to leave another if he doesn't get in touch with me tomorrow. I'm running out of time.

Plus Mentor is out of town.

Speaking of, TAB meeting tomorrow. Those kids are gonna eat me alive, but I'm giving them snacks. So that should help. Plus I have it all planned out.

Sort of.

I mean, she came up with the agenda, I just have to stick to it plus add in the stuff we forgot.

Squirt got started on some of the projects - the kids want to refurbish the library, basically take old books that are going to be withdrawn and make them into these craft things.

She was in today making a wreath thing, I told her she would most likely get funny looks cause she was tearing pages out of a book.

I'd actually worry more if she didn't get funny looks.

I think she secretly enjoyed ripping up a copy of Twilight.

I know I would have.

Have you read the thing?! We had to in college. I'm sorry, she knows the guy for like 2 days and already she belongs to him and can't live without him?! Seriously?!

Couldn't do the sequels.

My brother drug me to the movies.

And please keep in mind that he's fifteen years older than I am.

But that's okay, I enjoy going to movies with him. We saw those, RED, Narnia, Max Payne, etc. Random mix but enjoyable.

He's a good brother.

Speaking of family, yes another segue, tonight was fun.

Monday nights have developed into a routine of sorts. Since Squirt volunteers on Mondays I take her home, and Oldest Sister cooks dinner, then we watch The Voice and Castle. It's fun and relaxing. Plus the kids are really funny.

"You made me snot my water."
don't ask, please.

"It's a noun and a verb, it's a triple threat."
no it's a double threat.

And I've learned that "your face" is the new "your mom". So if Bubby asks you, "guess what?" don't answer.

He was telling us blonde jokes. The most memorable being the red head asking her mother why she named her petal.

Her mother replies that a petal fell on her head when she was born.

The brunette asks her mother why she was named Rose.

Her mother replied that a rose fell on her head when she was born.

The blonde said, "my favorite color is potatoes!"

Her mother yelled "Shutup Brick!"

and that was my day. Another one just like it tomorrow, working but this time I'll come home to homework instead.

I did register for my classes though, huzzah!

"Let's Dance" Chris Montez

we'll do the twist, the stomp the mashed potato too.... i always wondered how they came up with the name mashed potato. doesn't sound like a dance move. but i'm diggin' it anyway.

The Fool-Proof Diet

So we came up with a plan.

And by we I mean myself, Squirt and the awesomeness that is Megan.

To write our own diet book.

You know? One to go amongst the 613 section of the library.

These are our diet rules:

-Eating someone else's food means no calories
cause it's not your food.

-If you eat a donut it's only half the calories cause there's a big hole in the middle.

-If you eat a snickers bar while running in place it doesn't count cause they cancel each other out.

-Diet pop means you lose weight as you drink it cause it has diet in the title.

And we call our plan the "Fool-Proof Diet" because it takes fools to prove that our diet doesn't work.

But we're thinking of coming up with more rules - there were more thrown out on the car ride back from the event tonight but I've forgotten half of them. I'm sure they'll remind me tomorrow. Then I will include them in that post.

Anyway, we're thinking of writing this book, then taking before and after pictures but in reverse.

Like Before: *insert picture* we were skinny.

And After: *insert picture* we weigh 400 pounds each.

We would probably need some sort of strong disclaimer to go on the cover.

Like, "if you're serious about dieting you should seriously stay away from this book."

Or something of the sort.

Then use really cool pen names like Marsha Mellow or Chris P. Bacon.

I'm kinda digging it.

Today was like completely weird schedule-wise. 1-5, which actually were my normal hours before I was 40 hours, but then 6-9 for this big TAB event.

Friday the 13th means murder, mystery and mayhem so we had a murder mystery event for the teens over at one of the branches.

It was fun. And loaded with teens, I was impressed.

Neon cheese-puffs were included so I mean how can you say no to that?

I should add that to our diet plan.

Aside from the splitting headache - and I mean actual makes you want to crawl in the corner because this NEVER happens EVER kind of pain - it went off without any major catastophes.

About an hour into it I was alright - I'm library personnel, you just power through it. It's what you do.

It's all mental.

Freakin' Coach Otte, I blame my new life motto on you.

Anyway, the teens got pretty into the whole thing.

Some had parts and were the suspects, the rest were put into groups - I led group 3, woohoo! - and we went around to the crime scene and the detective's desk and all that. Then came back to the room and I made them round-table. They figured it out, I was pretty proud.

And the most unsuspecting person in the world was the murderer, which I LOVED! Because it was one of my coworker's kids. Well, two of my coworkers technically cause they're married and both work with me, but I usually only work with one of them.

But this girl was fantastic, she was helping me put pop and ice in the cooler before everyone arrived and was stabbing the ice pack. "I have violent tendencies." She's like the most mild-mannered girl ever, so her as the murderer just seriously made me laugh.

Especially because she was just sitting at the crime scene reading.

All innocent.

Nope, she poisoned the librarian so she could avoid being arrested for plagiarism!

The set-up was pretty sweet. We even had a taped outline of the murder victim.

I took pictures of them taping it out, but they would probably kill me if I uploaded them.

It was super cool meeting some of the other librarians.

I mean, I've seen them around, but you don't really talk because you're always in meetings or staff inservice or whatever.

These were the other TAB leaders and it was a seriously fun group.

I'm getting more excited as the process goes along.

Although my mentor was loving the fact that she just got to be the advisor tonight.

"You wanna do it?"
"Nope, I'm the mentor."

Our kids kicked butt.

I mean, so did everybody else's, but I was proud of ours and their acting skills.

And they all seemed to have fun.

Next up for TAB is a meeting for more Summer Reading activity planning.

I have a feeling that's going to become my life for the next few months.

Fantastic, just in time for CAMP planning.

And class.

Speaking of, I have my first session on Sunday afternoon.

Carpooling with an awesome classmate so the Library Goddess might have to live without her coffee from me this semester. Not sure if I'll see her anyway, unless I stop by her office.

Which I will.

Always leave the Cool Aunt a note after every class.

Lately it's been pictures.

A turkey for Thanksgiving, a tree for Christmas.

What do I draw now?

MLK?

He does rock.

And we do get a three day weekend because he rocks.

Which means he rocks even more in my book.

And speaking of books and rocking and MLK, my booklist is officially out there, I'm stoked!

Go here: If You Like "The Help"

It's a super awesome website if you're looking for a good book or movie.

Info-Man and Darth Scheduler are major Star Wars fans so if you find the Star Wars booklist you'll be looking at hundreds, and I mean hundreds, of Star Wars titles.

Plain White T's Week: Day Six

Friday the 13th pretty much demands mysterious and weird music, right?

"Welcome to Mystery"

okay, i can't even focus on the song cause all i can see is that dude on the right with the blue shirt dancing like an idiot.

"Cirque Dans La Rue"

"but just remember, while you're watching us do the things that we do,
We're watching you!"

Quote of the night:

Me: Bye Fluffy.
Bubby: Bye.
Me: I was talking to the cat.
Bubby: Well that was awkward.

and she's out!

I've got the moves like Jagger.

Dear Blogspot,

Today I rocked it.

Got to use my new coffee machine this morning, well, my parents' old one cause they got a new one, but it's NEW TO ME so I'm calling it new. Anyway, it has a timer so it was ready when I woke up, awesomeness. Grabbed some fruit and hit the road.

Opened up first floor, finished up the YA project, worked at the desks, answered reference phone calls, restocked the displays, did supply rounds, wrote up a book recommendation, checked in 6 carts in an hour, then stopped by the home library after work to see Space Cadet and my Trainee.

Was good to have the Space Cadets reunited. I haven't seen her since I worked there. Like, as in the last time we worked together. Which has probably been months, since I was just down to Tuesday and Thursday nights for a while - neither of them with her.

Anyway, I walked in wearing my "Tundra hat" - present from the Cool Aunt that Slim Shady says makes me look like I'm headed for a tundra, i like it - and Space Cadet did the best doubletake ever. It was nice. Walking passed with a cart as I walk in the door, looks over, keeps walking, stops walking and looks again. HI!

We talked ipods, family, cooking, library stuff.

She enjoys that someone bought me a subscription to a cooking magazine, and claims it wasn't her. I still have no idea who did it, but once I do it's on.

I miss my home branch.

It's a completely different atmosphere there. I got to know my coworkers there a lot more than my current work branch ones just because it's slower there so you talk more. Plus they have longer hours.

And I'm getting to know my current ones, they're fantastic as well.

I draw mazes for Slim Shady on my breaks. We go out for movies and food.

Fearless Leader likes my Firefly t-shirts. We talk blogs, books, movies, and dating.

Info-Man and me talk Huskers and recommendations.

John Boy teaches me all about comics, I'm learning people.

Mentor tells me all about the joys of working with teens, and shows me the ropes to talking over teen programs.

The Reference Queen always checks in to make sure I know how to do things, aka processes that I wasn't exactly trained to do but am still doing them because no one else is.

Queen of the Known Universe always makes me laugh, we talk Criminal Minds, Big Bang Theory, and crazy people.

Super Librarian Status always gives me good philosophies for life, such as "it's not possible to drink all the liquor in town, i've tried it."

Big Brother always watches out for creepers staring at me and gives me excuses to leave the desk when one approaches.

Girlscout and I talk derby, food, library everything and somehow she's always hard at work in the staff room whenever I go in there.

Superwoman is always watching out for me, period.

The New Guy and I joke about anything that's going on at the time.

The New Girl seems to always ask me questions about processes instead of other people, I'm flattered.

Cabin Fever who I joke with about writing a book about life experiences entitled "What Was I Thinking: The Hindsight Bias" and told me to tell creepers I talk to snakes so they're scared away.

The Aides and myself always joke around and talk about starting an Aides Union - as I used to be one and now I'm an advocate.

So yes, I do like my new coworkers. But I miss the old ones as well.

Sensei who I talked The Closer, Criminal Minds, NCIS, really any TV show.

Glee-Loving Boss who calls me to tell me that Temperature Tuesdays have started at Runza.

Queen of Awesome who lets me hold Maximus Awesomus, aka the Spawn of Awesome. And goes out for sushi and drinks.

Joe Studley who I can talk to about anything, and who does impressions just to cheer me up.

Space Cadet who's always teasing me about cooking. We talk about my tech-nerd-ness and her no-tech-ness. And occasionally yell out "you want an e-reader!" for no reason.

Trainee who I actually occasionally get to see since she's doing now what I was doing before, except I was an aide at the home branch and an LSA at the work branch. She's that in reverse. We talk sports, life, crazy people, etc.

Yes, I like my coworkers. All of them. That's why it's hard to leave. That's why I don't plan on leaving anytime soon.

I'm actually looking forward to inservice day so I get to jam with everyone at the same time.

What was I talking about before this whole rambling things got started?

Oh right.

Today.

I think we're finally off vacation-mode since we're fully functional.

Or seem to be.

Today was just weird reference-wise, I had this phone call asking for an address and everywhere I looked gave me different information. At first the addresses were different, then the middle initials were different, then the phone numbers were different, then she wanted to talk to someone else cause apparently I wasn't helpful. Though she didn't say that, she just said is there anyone else there. Info-man to the rescue. He told her the same things that I did and she listened to him!! Seriously? Then she called back!

Anyway, aside from that I rocked it. Though technically I rocked that since he just said the same things that I said. Maybe I need to sound more experienced. Or authoritative. Or something. Distinguished.

I'll work on that.

In the meantime,

"Moves Like Jagger" Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera

dig it. my niece - the youngest one, she's like two - sings this. "got the moves like jagger, got the moves like jagger, got the moves like jagger..." i taped it and put it as my ringtone. hilarious.

We'll see if I'll still have moves like Jagger tomorrow.

Here's the Red Green philosophy for the day:
The faster you go the more you miss. As you get older you're gonna realize that we're all pretty much heading for a brick wall. The question is, how hard do you wanna hit it?

OUT!
