Things you've missed this week:
World Kindness Day Celebration
-So we knew there wouldn't be a giant turnout because of the game timing, but we had a lot of fun with the people that showed up. And the TAB kids got really into the pin the food on the cornucopia game. One of the kids got so lost he ended up behind the staff desk - and the posted was hung up on the staff door by the PAC's.
Smooth.
So we made our bag turkeys, spoon pilgrims, pilgrim hats, and hand and foot turkeys, plus ate some cookies and drank some apple juice with the Queen of Awesome.
Fun stuff.
Oh, and the QofA was also the first of my coworkers to meet the boyfriend.
Pretty sure she's proud of that.
Oh, totally kissed him in front of my kids and didn't even realize it. Cause you know how stuff like that can turn into a routine thing?
Or is that just us?
It wasn't like a serious thing but when I turned around and they were all smiling I was like, did I just? ah, crap.
Won't be living that one down any time soon.
More fun life stuff a work friend of mine is pregnant and I TOTALLY CALLED IT! Cause I can tell the symptoms, I have three sisters and 8 nieces and nephews I can tell the signs.
Ask Second Sister, got in the car to see Wicked,
"Are you wearing perfume?"
"Are you pregnant?"
"Oh my god!"
She knew for a like a day.
Anyway, I was joking that I had called it but she denied it so I was gonna go up and say "In your face!" but pregnant women are hormonal and nauseous so Queen of the Known Universe said the friend may counter with "On your shoes!"
What else?
Oh, I have a new nickname from Sketch.
Hazmat.
Long story.
But previously I was Pancake.
So now I am a Hazmat Pancake.
I'm sure there's more - oh like tonight, we - Maegan, Sam and myself - interviewed a reference librarian for an assignment. I finished all of my other stuff for that class so really I could write this paper from my notes and be done with homework for that class. All I have left is a physical class next month and we're good for the semester.
But I still have the other two classes to finish. Two more major assignments and some discussion boards. This week I'm off for holiday so no homework or discussions - huzzah!
I've already started on one of them, I should really get going on the other. Perhaps I'll work on them over Thanksgiving break.
Ha.
Right.
What else?
Oh, did some Christmas shopping this morning. I'm now done with Favorite Sister-In-Law, Booge, Abby Cadabra, and Claire, plus KJ, G-Wigger and Obi-Wan. Halfway done with Mom. Have one thing for Dad but it's not a lot.
Working on presents for the boyfriend's birthday and Xmas.
So that's.... let's see gotta count there's
2
4
5-4 so 1
5-1 so 4
plus Laverna, Grams
oh and I got the Cool Aunt done.
And I should get something for the Library Goddess.
so that's what like 14 left? Plus the boyfriend x2 so 16.
And I should get stuff for his family so there's more.
Eh, I got time.
I still haven't made my list.
We've started doing this thing over Thanksgiving where all the siblings take over the couches in one room and pass around the ads and make our lists. It's quite handy.
Bookshelves may be good.
I have like 3 well, 4 smaller ones but they're overflowing. Maybe I should ask for some tall ones. I could put them where the shorter ones are now and then use the shorter ones for DVD's and CD's or pictures or something.
But they've gotta be good sturdy ones cause I'm an English major so there's a lot of anthologies involved.
Plus like every work by Shakespeare, a bunch of classic novels, some random nonfiction, and A LOT of popular fiction. One of my volunteers was talking about favorite novels. I told her I was a Patterstonian. She thought that was funny.
Please tell me you get that reference.
Back when the show was still good.
Alright, music and I'm off. Got a meeting in the morning to plan out the next newsletter with the Library Goddess.
Huzzah for coffee.
Sound of Silence - Simon and Garfunkel
legitimate pre-11:50 post. holy crap tag in use.
I could write a blog. I have thoughts.
Life at the library, adventures with friends and other hysterics...

feels so good to hit the ground.
It has been brought to my attention that people don't know the "Tonto" dance.
This is wildly depressing to me.
So, here, educate yourselves:
Will the Thrill and Boogaloo Shrimp
Or you can watch them do it here - before the taping of their last show - Fresh Prince Final Episode Pre-Show
Basically the Fresh Prince and Carlton go broke in Vegas so they have to come up with some money and enter themselves into a dance competition.
And no, I have no idea why someone would put video game characters on the side of their video but it was the best quality so I'm sticking with it.
C'mon people, even the marines know the dance.
Apparently training was boring that day.
Don't ask, don't tell.
Although the song is actually called "Apache" really the only known words to the song are "Tonto, jump on it, jump on it, jump on it." and repeat.
Originally released as instrumental in the '60s in Britain by the Shadows, then the Incredible Bongo Band added some more hiphop-ish elements to it in the '70s and the version you're hearing is actually the 1981 take on it by the Sugarhill Gang who added the lyrics.
It's also been remade by Sir-Mix-Alot, Fatboy Slim, and more recently Beck - but no, he doesn't loser-rap in it.
Yes, I'm a nerd. Look it up.
More website progress today, gotta remember to get it cleared by end of tomorrow. I'd like to have it up and running by next week since the first TAB meeting is on the 4th.
A little harder to build one when you're at the front desk for three hours but it reminded me why I started at the library in the first place, which lately has been interesting because I've had more time off-desk than anything else.
Not that I'm complaining, it's nice to actually have time to work the stuff that I've been assigned and elected for. Speaking of, first volunteer came in today so I got to give him the tour and get him started on random projects. And of course that's when both pencil sharpeners decide to break - weird, and as I thought that was boring anyway I got him started on some computer stuff that he picked up fairly quickly.
What else? Umm, got to jam with Fearless Leader today for like 3 hours which rocked, worked with BossLady and The New Girl - we were shocked and couldn't remember the last time that happened. Though she's stuck in the basement cause she's half cataloger and half public service. Well, more like 30/10, sad day.
My cat is driving me nuts. He's on some sort of biting rampage even though I'm covered with blankets and wearing sleeves. No idea what his problem is but he was like this yesterday too. Missing the farm perhaps, but it's keeping me up at night and makes me frustrated in the morning. I put him the cage and he whines. I close the door to the bedroom and he pounces on it.
Erg.
Yes, erg.
It was either that or arg but I'm not much for pirate talk as of late.
I'm falling behind on that version of Mango Language though I did at one point attempt it.
We have this language database that teaches you language at your own pace so you've got like Spanish, French, Italian, Mandarin and then at the bottom... Pirate. You should look into it, it's free through the library man.
I wanna learn sign language, I think that would be fun.
Alright, I'm off to do some more editing. Final touches and then I'll send it. Huzzah!
Couple of old favorites I haven't mentioned yet:
Frequently played when I'm in my head as random music such as this tends to bring me out of my head.
Not that I'm in my head today, I just heard the first one and it went from there.
Falling Down - Avril Lavigne
yes, old school. well, not really, but it is for me. and really all I can think of is Sweet Home Alabama when I hear it, but it's still a good song. you can actually watch that whole movie on youtube.
Actually I'm pretty sure I brought this next one up back in Favorites Week. Or should have at least as it is one of mine. I know it's been posted at least once cause it's got a tag.
Shattered - Trading Yesterday
there are two versions to this song, this is the longer and wordier version. the other is just instrumental from 2:15 'til the regular verse which is usually at 3:23 but this one repeats, hence the reason it's longer.
see how i can do math?
look mom, no hands.
i like them both but find this one more satisfying. if that makes sense?
it's a headspace kind of thing.
but give it a shot, it's worth it.
Alright, edit then sleep. Staff meeting tomorrow morning so I gotta be semi-conscious.

Notes from the blender
So I'm a magnet.
For creepers.
This week has been no exception.
A guy came up to me at the desk with a "psychology question" for a class he's taking.
First it was "if someone asked you if you wanted to hang out would you say yes, no, or maybe?"
To which I didn't answer.
So then he changed it to, "do you like music?"
To which I said "sure".
And then he came at me with, "so if someone asked you if you wanted to hang out and listen to music, would you say yes, no, or maybe?"
I said it would depend on the relationship I had with that person.
"Well, you're both single." and that's when he got the ring.
Basically, when I get hit on I hold up my left hand, aka the one with the fake wedding ring, and they back off.
There's a reason I wear it every day.
And this way I'm not technically lying, they just assume I'm taken and they back off.
But it's not like this is irregular, it happens quite frequently.
But I'm too nice, so lately I've been shutting them off entirely.
I don't need another "likes ass or jazz" fiasco mentioned here: This Magnet Moment
Anyway, so I showed him the ring and he kept talking! So I looked over at John Boy who then turned to Queen of the Known Universe and she came to my rescue calling me away from the desk and saying something about going to the basement for a YA question.
So I did and ended up in cataloging talking to the New Girl and grabbing a YA item just in case I went back up there and he was still at the desk. That way I could claim the item was re-cataloged and fixed or something to that matter, but he was gone by the time I got back there.
She and I save each other frequently, though the most memorable was when this guy nearly invited himself over to my house for November so she walked out into the stacks and called the extension and told me I needed to go to the basement and get something. So I left the desk and she came back to it. Then, as I hung out in the stacks, I noticed he wasn't leaving her alone. So I called her extension with my cellphone claiming I needed her in the basement. Then we basically ended up hiding out in the stacks waiting for him to leave the desk.
Which he actually stood at for about five more minutes.
Then there was another guy who was like 30, living with his brother and said he was ready to settle down and get married.
I told him I don't date patrons.
He attempted to find a way to work around it.
Didn't work.
Speaking of the Queen of the Known Universe, she ties for first in the Quote of the Day selection.
-"I don't want to cougar him." turned it into a verb, i like it.
When our library director, aka my boss's boss's boss, is notified about a change coming from the mayer's office she responds with "what the hell are you thinking?"
What else...
Tomorrow is "meet the parents" night.
His dad's birthday party, should be interesting.
I'll keep you posted.
Have tomorrow off to run errands, clean my apartment, but most importantly sleep in.
So don't call me before noon.
I'm out. Exhausted.
American Pie - Don McLean
but something touched me deep inside the day the music died.
he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye, saying soon i'm gonna be a jedi, soon i'm gonna be a jedi.
if you haven't already heard this next version you are seriously missing out on life. check it out.
Star Wars Epic Saga - Weird Al
PS - I checked out the book that I got from cataloging. "Notes from the Blender" which reminds me of my newest obsession.
Blackberries.
Addicted.
Got a blender from Second Sister for my birthday. I'm hooked. Started making a lot of fruit smoothies with random fruit, pineapple, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, rasberries, all that. I like it. And it's healthy, so THERE!

"Here's a warning, Happy Birthday."
You know what's even better than getting pulled over?
Getting pulled over while all your family is there to witness it.
Both your parents and all of your siblings.
On your birthday.
Yeah.
That was fun.
Apparently going 35 in a 25 is illegal.
I made it all the way to the driveway when he pulled me over.
"So it's your birthday huh?"
"Yep. And my niece's baptism. Hence all the cars."
"Well, here's a warning. Happy birthday."
He thought I wasn't familiar with the area and didn't realize it was 25 and not 35.
I didn't mention I lived there for four years.
But I SWEAR that road is 35.
Or at least it used to be when I lived there.
Whatever.
It was a warning.
I can live with that.
Might have it framed.
I never get warnings.
It's not like I speed a lot.
Or get pulled over a lot.
Just lately.
Should work on that.
So birthdays.
Yeah.
My niece got baptized, that was cool. Hung out with the family most of the afternoon. Helped Favorite Sister-In-Law with some homework. Kind of my niche apparently, technology-based assignments.
Last time I helped her make a really kickass powerpoint.
This time it's something about tracks and links and all that.
Seemed pretty cool.
After that I jammed with Bubby at their house since Squirt had a tournament in Omaha and both parentals went to watch.
We ordered pizza, ate ice-cream cake and watched movies.
He's so funny.
Bubby: "It's your birthday, so I'm paying for the pizza."
Me: "No you're not. You're twelve. I'm putting it on my card."
Bubby: "I'm gonna put money in your wallet."
Me: "You don't know where my wallet is."
Bubby: "I'm gonna hide money in your car."
Me: "Yeah, I'll find it 2 months later and be like, twelve bucks, what?"
Goof.
My family rocks.
Got a vacuum.
And a blender.
And some dishes, cookware, and clothes.
Stoked.
And really curious about the blender.
I broke my last one.
Wasn't technically my fault.
Stupid dishwasher.
That thing hates me.
As do most of my appliances.
Or at least that's my excuse for not using them.
But the dishwasher needs a name.
Like, in college, we had this really annoying heater/air conditioner thing that everyone called "The whale" or Moby or whatever, cause it was like super loud and obnoxious and turned on and off at odd hours.
I think I called it Roberta.
Don't ask.
Anyway, it was obnoxious, and somehow having names for things that are obnoxious makes life easier.
Cause if they do something wrong you have something to yell and blame it on.
Like, "Shut up Roberta, I'm trying to sleep!"
or
"Damnit, Thomas, why don't you work?" which I yell quite frequently at my navigational system.
As in Cindy Thomas.
Not as in Tom-Tom.
And yes that's a Women's Murder Club reference.
Just had to clear that up.
Not that I want to yell at Cindy Thomas.
She rocks.
And she can find out secrets and scandals and all that, she's a good reporter.
So I called my nav system Thomas cause she can get me out of jams.
Though now, since I haven't updated her in forever, she gets me into more jams than she gets me out of.
Apparently I had to clear that up as well.
Moving on.
Dishwasher.
I think I'm gonna call it...
Lucille?
Hmmm....
Yeah.
Lucille.
Lucille the dishwashing machine.
Works.
No, I have no explanation for that name either.
Lucille is evil and she hates me.
Or maybe I'm just using too much soap.
More to come on that later.
You know what?
I love teachers.
I do.
About 80% of my friends and family are, or were at some point, teachers.
Both of my parents were teachers.
But the thing about teachers? Is that they know exactly what to say.
All the time.
That can make them very obnoxious patrons.
Like, if they have fines over the limit and they can't check out.
Today I got hit with, "So, as a taxpaying citizen, you're saying that I'm not allowed to check out books."
Snap.
It's not me saying it personally, it's the system that won't let you check out.
But they don't get that it's the system, they think it's me.
Um.
Supervisor?
Can I just say how glad I am, in those instances, that I am physically the lowest on the totem pole of desk workers.
Well, I guess second-lowest now.
But there are so many people above me that I can pass that off to, it's fantastic!
Not so fantastic for them, but still.
Great for me!
And they're supervisors for a reason, they can handle it.
I cannot.
Apparently.
Which sucks, as there's usually one of those instances once a week.
I'm a magnet, I swear.
But this one wasn't just me, there were multiple staff members around who thought the instance was a little over the top.
Whatever, it's done.
Like the warning for speeding.
It happens, you keep your head down and move on.
This is especially helpful in circumstances when you have stalkers.
Keep your head down and just keep moving.
Did I mention that today was a day?
I have this old lady stalker woman person chick that follows me around and talks to me about her personal life and it's really awkward, so usually when I see her my coworkers cover while I go and roam until she goes away.
She was in today, but got distracted in youth services.
It's okay, The New Girl shielded me with her sweater.
She too has people who ask random library questions in order to just speak with her.
I think we're too nice.
Maybe that's it.
I gotta be meaner.
Like stone-cold mean face or something.
Wordie says I have the glare down.
Like down pat. (is it down pact or down pat?)
I just don't use it.
Often.
Just on old boyfriends.
I know I'm rambling.
I haven't posted in two days.
Or checked Facebook.
People think I went underground or something.
Song of the day before I think of something else to ramble about.
Sometimes I like being ironic.
"Zip-a-dee-doo-dah" Song of the South
this song is the only thing satisfactual about that movie.
Did you know that the star - James Baskett - wasn't even able to attend the premiere because Atlanta - where Disney introduced it himself - was still segregated?
Ridiculous.
Sorry, I'll stop with all the rambling.
You know what is satisfactual?
The Civil Wars and their iTunes live album.
Had to download it, it's fantastic.
Totally jammed in the backroom to it today.
The backroom is great for escapes, by the way.
Alright, Carter and I are out before I can think up more tangents.
Wonderful feeling, Wonderful day.

Let's Go To The Hop
There are no words to describe today.
Well, maybe a few.
But they are of the four letter variety.
And they weren't said by me. Just crazies who yell them in the library.
It was a day for incident reports.
Serious serious serious incident reports.
Seriously.
Like, I've been followed to the cash register, I've been hit on by old ladies, I've been slipped phone numbers by homeboys that call me "shortie" and all that crap, but today just...
I was creeped out.
Literally creeped out.
Have you ever seen that episode of Grey's Anatomy when Meredith is on morphine for her appendectomy? And George and Finn and McDreamy are all there and she looks at Bailey and says, "All my boyfriends are here!" all dreamily.
I said that today.
But instead of boyfriends it was "All my stalkers are here!" I did my best Meredith on morphine imitation.
As I hid in the back room.
First, this drunk dude comes up to me at the desk, tells me he doesn't have a card, he doesn't want to look at books, he wants to look at me. Then asks me for money or something cause he was hungry.
Thank god for John Boy, seriously, knight in shining armor. I took off but the dude followed me.
So yeah, I ran.
To Superwoman.
Which is actually who I run to most of the time when I'm being stalked or feel totally creeped out. Cause she's awesome like that.
Although today when I walked in she was like,
"Wow, you haven't had someone follow you around in a while."
"Yeah, a whole two days, WOOHOO!"
Cause there's serious need for celebration when that lasts longer than 24 hours.
Anyway, then I go back out to the desk where I run into the old lady who searches me out and all that, then the foreign dude who's always hitting on me and talking about my jewelry.
I feel like I should just stop wearing jewelry.
But then I'm sure he would comment on that!
So yes, all my stalkers were there.
Well, most of the current ones.
Yes, there are more than one, and no I'm really not so appreciative of that.
Though, with the New Girl today, we did have fun writing our incident reports.
Mostly because we started singing The Beatles but changed it to "Can't Find Me Love" cause that's what the dude said somewhere amongst his drunken ramblings.
Then just as we were singing it the awesomeness that is Barb walked by, paused, turned around and we just laughed. Busted. Told her she'd understand when she checked her e-mail the next day.
Quote of the day:
Me: "They made a version of that for kids?"
Trainee: "Yeah, they probably have one for dogs too."
gotta love it when an adult book is so popular they put it in kids format and shelve in the jNonfiction. "Heaven Is For Real", that book is freakin' everywhere.
Actually, there are more quotes from today but the majority came from the 2 hour conversation I just had with Sketch and therefore I can't repeat a lot of them...
I had some sort of epiphany and realized that all of my ex-boyfriends hate her. They don't dislike her, they actually hate her.
Not that she doesn't hate them back, so yeah, we were talking about the current boyfriend and I told her she wasn't allowed to threaten his manhood.
Cause I actually like this one.
We'll see how long that lasts.
Songs of the day: Cause you can never go wrong with the classics,
Way Back Wednesday
"At The Hop" Danny & The Juniors
okay, what is going on at 1:23 exactly?
"Dream Baby" Roy Orbison
it's like a game of "name that artist!" i do enjoy jennifer warnes' dance moves as a backup singer. but you've got springsteen, costello, waits, raitt, lang, i'm sure there are others but i'm falling asleep.
i'm diggin' it.

I've got the moves like Jagger.
Dear Blogspot,
Today I rocked it.
Got to use my new coffee machine this morning, well, my parents' old one cause they got a new one, but it's NEW TO ME so I'm calling it new. Anyway, it has a timer so it was ready when I woke up, awesomeness. Grabbed some fruit and hit the road.
Opened up first floor, finished up the YA project, worked at the desks, answered reference phone calls, restocked the displays, did supply rounds, wrote up a book recommendation, checked in 6 carts in an hour, then stopped by the home library after work to see Space Cadet and my Trainee.
Was good to have the Space Cadets reunited. I haven't seen her since I worked there. Like, as in the last time we worked together. Which has probably been months, since I was just down to Tuesday and Thursday nights for a while - neither of them with her.
Anyway, I walked in wearing my "Tundra hat" - present from the Cool Aunt that Slim Shady says makes me look like I'm headed for a tundra, i like it - and Space Cadet did the best doubletake ever. It was nice. Walking passed with a cart as I walk in the door, looks over, keeps walking, stops walking and looks again. HI!
We talked ipods, family, cooking, library stuff.
She enjoys that someone bought me a subscription to a cooking magazine, and claims it wasn't her. I still have no idea who did it, but once I do it's on.
I miss my home branch.
It's a completely different atmosphere there. I got to know my coworkers there a lot more than my current work branch ones just because it's slower there so you talk more. Plus they have longer hours.
And I'm getting to know my current ones, they're fantastic as well.
I draw mazes for Slim Shady on my breaks. We go out for movies and food.
Fearless Leader likes my Firefly t-shirts. We talk blogs, books, movies, and dating.
Info-Man and me talk Huskers and recommendations.
John Boy teaches me all about comics, I'm learning people.
Mentor tells me all about the joys of working with teens, and shows me the ropes to talking over teen programs.
The Reference Queen always checks in to make sure I know how to do things, aka processes that I wasn't exactly trained to do but am still doing them because no one else is.
Queen of the Known Universe always makes me laugh, we talk Criminal Minds, Big Bang Theory, and crazy people.
Super Librarian Status always gives me good philosophies for life, such as "it's not possible to drink all the liquor in town, i've tried it."
Big Brother always watches out for creepers staring at me and gives me excuses to leave the desk when one approaches.
Girlscout and I talk derby, food, library everything and somehow she's always hard at work in the staff room whenever I go in there.
Superwoman is always watching out for me, period.
The New Guy and I joke about anything that's going on at the time.
The New Girl seems to always ask me questions about processes instead of other people, I'm flattered.
Cabin Fever who I joke with about writing a book about life experiences entitled "What Was I Thinking: The Hindsight Bias" and told me to tell creepers I talk to snakes so they're scared away.
The Aides and myself always joke around and talk about starting an Aides Union - as I used to be one and now I'm an advocate.
So yes, I do like my new coworkers. But I miss the old ones as well.
Sensei who I talked The Closer, Criminal Minds, NCIS, really any TV show.
Glee-Loving Boss who calls me to tell me that Temperature Tuesdays have started at Runza.
Queen of Awesome who lets me hold Maximus Awesomus, aka the Spawn of Awesome. And goes out for sushi and drinks.
Joe Studley who I can talk to about anything, and who does impressions just to cheer me up.
Space Cadet who's always teasing me about cooking. We talk about my tech-nerd-ness and her no-tech-ness. And occasionally yell out "you want an e-reader!" for no reason.
Trainee who I actually occasionally get to see since she's doing now what I was doing before, except I was an aide at the home branch and an LSA at the work branch. She's that in reverse. We talk sports, life, crazy people, etc.
Yes, I like my coworkers. All of them. That's why it's hard to leave. That's why I don't plan on leaving anytime soon.
I'm actually looking forward to inservice day so I get to jam with everyone at the same time.
What was I talking about before this whole rambling things got started?
Oh right.
Today.
I think we're finally off vacation-mode since we're fully functional.
Or seem to be.
Today was just weird reference-wise, I had this phone call asking for an address and everywhere I looked gave me different information. At first the addresses were different, then the middle initials were different, then the phone numbers were different, then she wanted to talk to someone else cause apparently I wasn't helpful. Though she didn't say that, she just said is there anyone else there. Info-man to the rescue. He told her the same things that I did and she listened to him!! Seriously? Then she called back!
Anyway, aside from that I rocked it. Though technically I rocked that since he just said the same things that I said. Maybe I need to sound more experienced. Or authoritative. Or something. Distinguished.
I'll work on that.
In the meantime,
"Moves Like Jagger" Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera
dig it. my niece - the youngest one, she's like two - sings this. "got the moves like jagger, got the moves like jagger, got the moves like jagger..." i taped it and put it as my ringtone. hilarious.
We'll see if I'll still have moves like Jagger tomorrow.
Here's the Red Green philosophy for the day:
The faster you go the more you miss. As you get older you're gonna realize that we're all pretty much heading for a brick wall. The question is, how hard do you wanna hit it?

Rockin' Reference with the Shelver's Curse
System went down and Superwoman gave me a point for damage control. Huzzah for a 135! I'm catching up with Mom. And Space Cadet. Long story. Stupid email attachments.
Anyway, system went down and everyone panicked, took about an hour for it to come back on - like the whole internet so everything was down including all the other libraries in our system. And it just so happened that it was my turn in the lab with the New Girl. Yes, there's a new girl - who's nickname is The New Girl, not to be confused with the New Guy. They are both awesome. And hilarious. Today she totally made my day - someone I knew came in,
I said: She's dating my cousin.
She heard: She's dating my husband.
Yes, we have a very open relationship. Totally made my day.
So, anyway, we're in the lab with no internet and we get all these reference phone calls and people upset cause they can't get online and then there's people that need to find stuff in the library with no working catalog and yeah...umm...I'm weird. Cause I find it exciting when the system goes down. I mean, that's bad cause it's down and all that and frantic and people are upset but it's cool going retro and coming up with stuff on the fly without the technology.
But, I have an advantage.
Cause I have the curse.
I call it the Shelver's Curse. Um, you get it after about a month of shelving. Cause that's really all you do. And um, yeah, it's not like a contagious thing so don't worry.
Anyway, the Shelver's Curse is that you know the call numbers for about every freaking subject in the library because you need to know where to put things. So, if someone asks,
Computers are 005's,
Encyclopedia's are 031's,
Bibles are 220's,
Finance are 330's,
True Crime 364.152-154,
Foreign languages are 400's,
Math and Science crap is 500's,
Health and exercise is about 612-620,
Car manuals 629's,
Gardens are 635,
Animals are 636,
Cookbooks start at 640 and go through about 649 which is when you'll hit the
resume books at 650.14,
after that it's knitting and sewing in the early 700's,
Comics and how to draw stuff is in the 741's-745's,
Decorating is 747's,
780's are music,
790's are sport stuff,
800's are mostly classic literature stuff and
some comedy around 817,
all the travel stuff is in the 900's,
US travel is like 917s,
917.82 or 917.822 is Nebraska central.
For some reason you get baby names at 929. No idea why.
Then you've got the US history after that in the late 900s.
And then it's all biographies from there.
No I didn't look any of that up. Yes I'm laying on my couch visualizing the shelves. It's all part of the curse. Plus I'm a nerd. Remember that.
Anyway, people came in and wanted nonfiction stuff and since the catalog was down it was pretty much us. So we rocked it with the Shelver's Curse.
And used an actual phonebook for reference calls about phone numbers. Twice. It was awesome. And when that failed I googled a number on my phone. Damage control on the fly. I'm diggin' it.
So I'm still stuck on Chuck. Stoked it's actually still on, usually when I get into a series like this it's already over. Or has like 8 seasons so it takes forever to catch up. I think this one is more recent, only like 4 seasons are so. Will get them after I finish this one.
Anyway, it's fantastic. The man they call Jayne (Firefly) plus the girl who reminds me of Penny if she were a deadly assassin (Big Bang Theory) and then this nerdy guy with a computer-tainted brain. Plus comedy. It's awesome. 9/10.
Songs of the night:
Cause I love the acapella intros. It's all about the intros. At least give them that.
"Anytime" Journey
"Dust" Augustana
Officially mellowed out, time for bed.
It actually is time for bed. Yes, I know it's super early but I have to wake up super early cause some crazy person decided it was a good idea to start a class at 8:30 on a Saturday morning. And I have to drive there. So 7AM for me. And you know how much of a morning person I am. Totally stopping for coffee like twice. Once when I leave and once when I get there.
Not sure what I should expect. Dunno if I will see the Library Goddess. Or Cool Aunt. But have class in their building yet again. They are apparently stoked for the new building cause they have windows and all that. Huzzah! I'll miss the windowless classrooms. Not. But I'm confused cause it's supposed to be in two rooms with one teacher. Or maybe there's two. I just know I have the textbook and the mission statement printed out.
Not that I don't already have it memorized anyway.
And our selection policy.
And the selection policy of a peer library.
Freaking Library Goddess with her actually relevant and helpful-in-your-job homework assignments. Although I'm still waiting to give my Zombies vs. Unicorns booktalk to some unsuspecting young adult. It it Zombiefest weekend. Yes that's a real thing. Google it. I love this town.
OUT!

OUT!
