I could write a blog. I have thoughts.

"Do you work here?" "No." "Oh, well there's a reindeer stuck in the tree."

Lots more to scrapbook. Really need to post more. I'll attempt to go in order.

Superwoman has officially dubbed me as our branch's Staff Association Liaison.

I can never spell that word right, had to Google it.

If you don't work at my library system, Staff Association is basically a group of people from all over the system who work together to promote comradery amongst staff. We host events, send out cards, and all that. We haven't done it for years but then one of my comrades brought it back - making her president.

That's what happens when you want things to happen, you get put in charge. Isn't it lovely?

She even bribed us youngsters with food so we would join.

By youngsters I mean myself and the New Guy.

Everyone else at my branch that's my age has bailed.

But that's another story.

Anyway, so we've been having meetings and they're super fun and also planning a lot of fun stuff. They had a Staff Association picnic at the park - which I missed, though I did text The New Guy to take pictures if they attempted anything athletic.

You've gotta know my people, it would be hilarious. Especially if it were something like volleyball or kickball. Apparently they went with frisbee cause anyone can play that.

Next up is the Holiday Breakfast, where everyone brings food - I know, I'll have to practice beforehand so I don't kill anyone - and there are raffles and all that. After that in the spring we're thinking bowling and wine tasting in the summer.

Should be fun. In the meantime I'm on the cheeseball committee.

Basically we make cheeseballs for the holiday breakfast and then if people want to order any of their own we will supply them.

Remember how I can't cook?

But I was promised there would be wine so I'm there. As long as I don't have to actually cook anything, I think I'm capable of mixing cheese with nuts or whatever it is that goes into cheeseballs - my family makes them all the time but I've never been involved in the process.

Better not mention it to them, then they'd expect me to start making them. Especially since there's usually a large number of people who order them so I'd be a pro by the end of it.

Anyway, I'm excited that Staff Association is back. I bugged Superwoman for years about staff morale and starting something similar. Now I'm just glad I'm not in charge.

Moving on.

Guess what season it is!!

Fall!!

Which means I get both ice hockey and football!

And, I get to see them both in person this upcoming weekend!

Photo: Yep. This seems about right.

That was me all summer, BTW.

For ice hockey our first official game of the season is on Friday and then I'm going with the Cool Aunt to the Husker game on Saturday!

Super excited, we used to go to the Kansas game but since we switched conferences I haven't been to one in person. The away games are so far away now and the home ones sell out in like 10 minutes.

As for ice hockey, we actually hosted two different pre-season games at our ice box, and in both games we've come from behind to win.

Which is good for the team but bad for my heart.

The best thing about the first game was that season ticket holders got to go early and meet the players and tour the locker room so I got them to sign a bunch of stuff. Since the boyfriend was out of town I took Smo and it was awesome. We went through the signing line a couple of times, cause we're awesome like that. I took a ton of pictures and we won IN OVERTIME so it was extra awesome.

Plus Smo got a sweatshirt with a beer koozie and bottle opener in it.

Enough said.

Here are some of my favorite pics:

Up close and personal with the ice, yet far enough away to avoid me falling on my face.

Smo with the zamboni.

College flashback - Professor Hargin-Smith: "What's a zamboni? Pasta?"

Gotta have the suit jackets...

This guy is a stud. Gonna be high scorer all season, I'm calling it now.

Love these guys.

Ludvig for the win!

The second game the boyfriend was also gone so I took the eldest member of P Squared. Both members are huge hockey fans and the eldest is soon moving to Vegas for a job so I figured it'd be good to jam before she officially left us. More reasons to go back to Vegas.

Again we came from behind to win but this time it was in the third period.

I love our section, we are loud and obnoxious. There are two guys who sit behind us and commentate and they're hilarious. Plus the guys around me yell at anyone who stands up during the game - you're supposed to remain seated when the puck is in play so people can see and also so you don't get hit with flying pucks - but since they yell at them it means I don't have to so it's nice.

Next up to scrapbook are some work adventures. I mean actual adventures as I ventured out into the wild.

Literally.

A middle school and a zoo, both are extremely wild places.

First was the middle school. I got to jam with Sam - who needs a nickname, we had like 10 classes together for grad school plus now she works at a branch in my system - at a middle school over their lunch period and talk about books. It was fun.

Of course the girls are all into Fault in Our Stars and other John Green books, and then the boys are more into fantasy like Warriors and such. But there was some crossover. We ended the session with some Harry Potter trivia and my god they were shouting the answers before I could even think of them in my head.

Do you know how many pieces Ron tore up the letter from Percy into?

They did.

It was eight if you were curious.

The next day it was fun at the zoo with Girlscout. The zoo hosted a thing for area school's and lots of businesses (including us) had booths there to promote ourselves and our services. We had stuff for the kids to make bookmarks and it was crazy busy. We're thinking a good 350 kids in under 3 hours.

It was swamped, but lots of fun. Once we got into the rhythm that is. Though for both of us, our favorite part was when a parent came up to us and asked if we worked at the zoo.

We were like no.

And she was like, Oh, well there's a reindeer stuck in a tree.

That's something you don't see very often, however we were informed by a zookeeper - who also happens to be married to another one of our comrades (remember Big Brother?) - that it is shedding it's fur so she gave him branches to help out.

Bummer. We thought he was practicing for Christmas.

Night after that was sister's night out for Oldest Sister's birthday. We took her to the Parthenon. Lots of good food plus a bottle of wine - we were there for a few hours so it was a lot of fun. And I'd post quotes but most of which are inappropriate.

I'll let you ask my nephew yourself how he describes his older sister's music.

Best. Bubby. Line. Ever.

Then, yesterday was the Husker game against Miami.

Another one that was bad for my heart - for the first half at least. While I'm usually very proud of our fans for being nice people and cheering for both teams as they leave the field, I feel like the booing of Miami this time was warranted. There were quite a few scuffles going on during the game, I'm just glad Gregory made it off the field without being injured over something stupid.

And Fear Ameer man, that guy's definitely going pro. I don't know what we'd do without him. And Bell, he was great, but he always is. Too bad Westercamp didn't have any big plays, that guy has been on fire so far this season. I'm bummed Turner is out for the season - he was one of my favorites - but he'll be back next year, hopefully. Armstrong is impressive, you can tell he worked a lot in the off season.

I'll stop, I know you don't care.

On to the music:

Dear Future Husband - Meghan Trainor

Yes I bought her EP the day it came out. This is my second favorite behind All About That Bass. Total throwback style.

Here it is live, she's not bad.

I can't say the same for the cameraman.

It Must Be Love - Christina Grimmie

Totally underrated single. Love it. Not just cause it's her and the Voice comes back tomorrow...

Try Me On - Karmin

Still in love with these guys, even moreso after seeing them live.

And that's all I got.

The boyfriend gets back from the west coast tonight and I get to see him tomorrow, woohoo! Only been gone for like two weeks...and then he's leaving again so I'm taking Queen of the Known Universe to the first hockey game.

Apparently it's gotta be the whole date experience. Food and a t-shirt. Should be fun.

Keep calm and flame on.

I know I said I was gonna post more last week but then I got sick so...that didn't happen.

101.6 fever, for real people.

Okay, so what did you miss?

Made more progress on the zombie apocalypse. (scroll down if you're lost)

Queen of the Known Universe has joined my army of misfit toys. She has volunteered to build a flamethrower.

Screw Amazon, we'll build our own using car mufflers and a welder.

Keep Calm and Flame On.

She's also graciously volunteered to be our fire department liaison. I know, such a sacrifice for someone doesn't like firefighters at all...that was sarcasm.

Have you seen her Firemen Fridays section of Facebook?

The Old New Guy said he'd man the tablesaw, and when I asked our newest staff addition - who tragically doesn't have a nickname, but I'm on it - what skills would make us want her on our team she replied she watches a lot of Survivor and she's good at assembling Ikea furniture.

So I'm putting her on the mechanical and logistics squads. She can help us plan and build an endgame.

Still gotta talk to the rest of our merry band at the work branch, I'll keep you posted.

I also continue to eat lunch with the Queen of the Known Universe in the basement facing the empty screen. It's basically like an white board but with our position it looks like we're at a theater or something.

Now we say "down in front" to anyone who walks past while we're eating. Even though there's nothing on the screen.

What else?

Life Size Game Day was a big hit. Had 10 of my TAB kids plus one of their friends come and play life size angry birds, candyland and scrabble, it was awesome.

Here are some pics of our epic layout.

Photo: Life size angry birds

Big thanks to the New Guy for his help. We got pretty into the design, as you can tell.

What else?

Went to Bubby's play. He was Moses. Got to rap, it was amusing.

They had a silent auction beforehand made up of random donations and then you bid and the profits go to the school.

Here was one of the items...

Photo: Oh good god

I was like, oh good god.

And then mom bid on it.

But only once and then she got beat out.

Although it would have made an interesting addition to dad's cabin decor.

I did finally see the boyfriend this weekend. That's how I got sick, cause he had it, well, has it. Interestingly enough our doctors diagnosed us with two different things. Granted mine was in a rush to get me out of there so his was probably right.

But when I saw him we watched the second Matrix...what is that one Reloaded? Right?

Scale of Awesome says 7/10. Was good but not as good as the first. Just the third one left.

And that's basically it.

I know.

But I was sick.

So I slept a lot, and then when I couldn't sleep I watched Iron Man, then Thor, then Captain America, then the Avengers.

Did I mention I was out for three days?

I skipped a few in the series (Hulk and Iron Man 2) but I really don't like the Hulk (except if they made one with Mark Ruffalo I'd probably watch it) and then I figured Iron Man 1 was good enough to get me started.

Which Hulk movie do they claim anyway? Cause there were two within a few years of each other. Edward Norton and Eric Bana.

Bana was 2003, Norton was I think 2008. Hmmm... will have to look into that.

Finally watching Anna Kendrick on SNL. Very amusing so far. I love how many of the sketches are put on in song. But it's Anna Kendrick so you have to make her sing.

And speaking of singing....on to the music.

What was that segment called? Songs You Should Know?

Or Why Don't People Know This Song?

Or something like that, you get my point.

Here are a few more of those. Give them a chance, they are wicked awesome.

16 Military Wives - Decemberists

cheer them on to their rivals...

Since You've Been Gone - Theory of a Deadman

this was my first ever music rec on this blog and it's still one of my favorite songs.

We Used To Be Friends - Dandy Warhols

*clap* *clap*

and that's all I got.

More to come later.

If I fall for you I'll never recover, If I fall for you I'll never be the same.

Alright, I'm gonna keep this post short because today was super slow and not a lot happened, but also because I'm already starting on tomorrow's post.

It's gonna be epic, so tune in.

It's actually inspired by events of today.

I have a new stalker that always comes to my desk to ask for stuff and then lingers after every transaction.

It's super awkward but apparently he does it to BossLady too so I'm not completely alone.

He keeps asking me for my name every time he comes in and always has to track me down to say hi, even if I'm like youth services or no where near him whatsoever.

And I feel bad avoiding him cause maybe he's just a nice guy, but he seems too nice and it's creeping me out.

Anyway, so I was thinking about that and previous encounters that Slim Shady so lovingly dubbed my "magnet moments" and came up with the topic of tomorrow's 1000th post.

My Top Library Moments Of All Time.

So if you've worked with me at some point tune in, I'm sure you'll be in there cause the list is huge.

To be fair it has been 3 years, well, more than 3 years now, more like 3 and a half cause I started in May of 2010, so there's a lot to cover.

If you're a frequent reader of the blog you've probably heard of a few but this post will include all my top moments so I'm excited.

That's really all I got for today. It was freezing so no one was there all morning. Like the New Guy and I started in the lab and usually there's a line to get on to the computers...we looked at the clock 10AM, no one, 10:10AM, no one, 10:15AM, no one, 10:20AM, one guy.

We thought the doors were broken or something, but apparently not. It's just that damn cold.

And tomorrow's gonna be worse.

Thankfully I don't go in until noon so it'll be a little warmer than in the morning.

They talked about closing the schools tomorrow because of the cold. Probably a good idea, I wouldn't want my kid walking to school in negative temperatures.

Okay, on to the music, then back to tomorrow's post.

More of my favorites from 2013:

I Love It - Icona Pop

Love Somebody - Maroon 5

NLA Conference 2013 - Truck Yeah!

It is official. We survived. But now I'm zonked.

The day went a little something like this.

Woke up at 4:30. Got all dressed up.

Yes, makeup was included.

Yes, my hair was down.

No, I didn't wear the boots.

Met up with the Queen of the Known Universe and the New Guy and left around 5:10 in our awesome truck.

Photo: The Babe Wagon.

Photo courtesy of the Queen herself.

I brought my music adapter so we could plug in our playlists. It was mostly country - by the Queen and I - with some oldies thrown in by the New Guy. It was actually amusing though because she turned on the truck when the New Guy pulled in the parking lot and She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy came on the radio so we blasted it and were singing like maniacs. Pretty sure it weirded the hell out of him.

It was a fun start to an amusing ride.

So we're on our way, and we decide to stop at McDonald's for coffee. And we thought we knew where it was but again, it's dark and we're more interested in our playlists than the road so we drove right past it without noticing. We actually ended up stopping at the Starbucks in my boyfriend's town.

That was approximately 5:55 AM.

Got my chai tea latte, the New Guy got some juice and we were on our way.

Was a fairly fast drive, and we found the place on the first try...sort of. I mean, we had to make a u-turn but after that it was smooth sailing.

I mean, technically it was the second u-turn of the day, but still smooth sailing.

The place was super fancy.

Photo: Fancy

Yes, apparently I am one of those people.

Learned a lot throughout the day so that was good.

In the morning they did this demo with a 3D printer and some other cool gadgets. They actually showed us this webpage with a bunch of failed print jobs, it was highly entertaining. Superwoman and the Boss's Boss's Boss's Assistant were right in front of me and thought perhaps we could get one with a grant.

I'm gonna keep bugging them until we do, my teens would love it.

Unless of course it's me that has to submit the paperwork, then I'll have to think about it.

The next session was more fun gadgetry - Raspberry Pi and Arduino - want those, they are sweet.

After that we took a break to check out the booths. The New Guy and I went through and grabbed a bunch of free stuff - creepy cat bags included - and took pictures with the cast of the Big Bang Theory.

The cardboard version.

Last year they just had Sheldon, this year they had the whole cast, it was awesome.

Got a hug from the Library Goddess and caught up with a bunch of fun GA friends before I was forced into a picture with what seemed like half my class and two of the Mizzou professors.

Guess which newsletter that's going into. Yep. That's right. The one I used to be in charge of.

And had to scramble to find pictures for.

NLA season was easy though, there was plenty to work with. It was the off-season that makes you flail.

After the picture I escaped to learn about new online tools to use at the library. That one was packed, it should've been in a bigger room, but how can you tell really what's gonna be popular and what's not beforehand? Sat by the Queen, made colorful commentary and then we were off for lunch.

Also got lost on the way there, but that wasn't our fault. Google maps and GPS had it wrong. The Queen ended up getting out and asking the gas station attendant where it was. I was glad we decided to take the truck. We could have walked but we would have just ended up walking in circles for even longer.

Carlos O'Kellys, had fajitas. They were awesome and I couldn't finish them.

We stalled a bit before heading back but made it before the keynote speaker had started. We actually sat against the back wall, also highly enjoyable.

She was really good. I wasn't expecting her to be good, I was kind of dreading it actually. Keynotes can drag on if you don't have the right speaker. But she was funny, which I also wasn't expecting. She was in politics and from the title it sounded like it was gonna be all about government stuff, but it wasn't about the shutdown at all.

Though she did reference it once or twice for comedy. We mostly talked about advocacy and what it can do for our libraries.

She did bring up a lot of amusing stuff. Apparently they did this survey about what was more popular than congress. One of these things is not like the other, name the item you think is less popular than congress:

Cockroaches
Ebola
Lindsey Lohan
France

It's France. Strangely cockroaches, Ebola and Lindsey are all more popular than congress but for some reason we take issue with France.

Makes perfect sense, right?

We also learned a lot about rat poison and bars. Two separate stories, neither were hers.

After the keynote I listened to current and past library students talk about the program. I enjoy sitting sidelines and making colorful commentary as I'm going through it as well. It's always fun to hear what they have to say. We were missing a major element to that equation though, the Authentically Amazing One and Only KB so it could have been even better. Had to take a picture next to an empty chair to photoshop her in.

Last session of the day was about technology in special libraries.

I went for two reasons: 1 because I'm doing my practicum at a special library, but mostly 2 because I wanted to make faces at the presenters who just happened to be some of my cool classmates.

The whole event felt like some weird family reunion, I kept running into classmates and old professors. It was good to see them all again.

That was the last session of the day so after even more pictures we hit the road to head back in our cool truck.

Here are a few of my favorites quotes from the day:

Me: "She has excellent taste in music."
Queen: "I wish I knew her before the accident."
if we were in an accident the medics would see our stack of awesome CDs to choose from.

Me: "I like his pink hair, he's like the anti-president."
seriously, our nebraska library association president has pink hair. he's awesome.

Speaker: "I know I look young, but I have 25 years of experience....yesterday was my birthday. I turned 30."
cool, hey wait...

Speaker: "I got a Master's in Legislative Affairs, it's not what it sounds like."
Queen: "I bet the field research would be fun."
more colorful commentary from the back row.

"Rat poison, we hate it when kids lick it."
that's always a good thing to say when asking for funding.

"I, state your name here."
"I, state your name here."
"That's the first time that's happened."
see, librarians can have a sense of humor. shocked the politician.

"Gotta find that damn McDonald's."
and we did!

The last one is my favorite, the Queen and her daughter had a conversation earlier about birds that sit on the telephone wires and if they can listen in to conversations.
Me: Damn government birds.

And that was my day. Here are a couple of songs that made our playlists:

Truck Yeah - Tim McGraw

this was our theme song. it was both the first and last song played during our drive - sexy tractors didn't count as we were still stationary.

yes that is garrett hedlund in case you were wondering.

Pickup Man - Joe Diffie

see, I liked Joe Diffie before Jason Aldean came around and sang about him. just throwing that out there.

sorry. not a fan.

So that was NLA 2013. For previous years go here:

Single white female looking for a man like you.

Do you ever feel like people are becoming too creative with their license plates?

Like today I was driving behind a car with one that said I CRE8

That's great, congratulations, you create what exactly? And why are you putting it on your license plate?

Granted this is coming from someone who just suggested we make homemade license plates that say BABEWGN to cover the Iowa plates on our rental so feel free to ignore my thoughts on this subject.

That's right the big day is tomorrow!

NLA - the Nebraska Library Association conference also known as the GNC - Glorified Nerd Convention.

Green bags and nametags all around.

We're nerds, but it's okay, we own it. I love it.

Meeting up with the Queen of the Known Universe and the New Guy at 5AM so we can be there before 8 which means I'm waking up at 4:30.

Clearly the Queen is driving, anything before 8 for me is questionable, I'm not sure about the New Guy. And since she's driving she rented a pickup truck cause it gave her an excuse to rent one - she has a slight obsession.

Earlier this month the New Guy dubbed it the "Babe Wagon" because we kept getting hit on that week. Now he has joined our carpool crew so he is a babe as well.

We need one of those yard sticks like they have at the amusement parks.

"You must be *this* sexy to ride."

My friends all laughed when I told them I was going to bed at 9.

Mostly because they know me. For me it's almost impossible to go to bed before 10PM. Actually I rarely go to bed before 1AM.

It just doesn't work so I'm gonna have to turn on something especially boring.

The only problem is that I don't own anything especially boring.

Maybe the Addams Family.

I'm sorry, I hated the original movie but I really liked the sequel Family Values.

For most people that's backwards.

But waking up tomorrow at 4:30 is gonna be weird enough without waking up to the home page of the Addams Family DVD on my screen so I'll pass on that one.

Last time I remember waking up that early on purpose was back in college. I used to help Oldest Sister with her craft shows and she did some in the Haymarket on the weekends. We would have to be down there by like 6 and usually I stayed over with her but this one time I actually drove and met her there. I woke up at 4:30 in the dorms and walked to the bathroom and one of my hallmates was just getting back and was getting ready for bed. I was jealous.

Not of the fact that she was out that late, but of the fact that she got to go to sleep at that moment in time.

As you've noticed I'm really not a morning person.

So, that being said, it is now 9:00 I'm going to post this, charge my phone and iPod, and find something boring to watch. I've already got my clothes and breakfast laid out. Bag is packed, taking a book along just in case. Think I'm good.

Song of the Day:

I keep singing Royals - that one I posted a couple of days ago by Lorde - and humming it around the library. It's driving me nuts because originally I really didn't like it at all. Now it's grown on me. But I can't post that cause I already did so since tomorrow's drive is going to be country-filled tonight you're gonna get some retro country.

Single White Female - Chely Wright

i do have to laugh when i hear this song. ironic coming from her now.

And I'm out. Legitimate pre-midnight post, holy crap tag in use.

Here are last year's conference notes - I went both days cause I was a GA - and also one from the year before that so you'll understand when I say Glorified Nerd Convention I actually mean Glorified Nerd Convention.

All aboard the Babe Wagon!

You know how there are blah days and then there are really exciting days?

Today was one of the latter.

It all started with the Babe Wagon.

So the NLA - Nebraska Library Association - conference is coming up in October and Queen of the Known Universe and I have decided to carpool.

Since we need to be there by 8AM we'll have to leave at 5AM which means she's driving, cause clearly anything with me before 10 is questionable.

And, instead of driving her van 3 hours to the middle of nowhere, she has decided we should rent a pickup.

And not just any truck, a nice fancy one.

She's semi-obsessive about trucks, it's highly entertaining.

Combining this stylin' rental truck and our experiences this past week - aka getting hit on more than usual - The New Guy has dubbed it the "Babe Wagon".

Which we enjoy and have decided to chronicle our adventures with the Babe Wagon.

So look forward to that in October. I know I will.

The working title is "Adventures of the Babe Wagon" because if we were to call it "Adventures in the Babe Wagon" it might be taken as something else entirely.

We're thinking about getting t-shirts and having random men sign them with fake phone numbers.

1-800-CALL-ME!

and the like.

I'm sure Superwoman would LOVE us for that.

So most of the day - when we weren't swamped - we joked about the Babe Wagon.

Which made it quite the exciting day.

Add to that Mom - who is determined to remain the favorite staff mom - stopped by with cookies and fruit for the staff. We put them in the circ workroom and they were gone soon after.

So they were all thankful and she remains the favorite.

Plus the Library Judge and I had a conversation about the stereotypes of retired librarians.

We couldn't think of anything other than they get bored and become volunteers.

Which is true of one such retired librarian. :)

After work I came home, showered and vacuumed for reasons at work that will remain unexplained.

Then attempted to log-on to my online class for half an hour with no success.

Me, thinking it was just me having computer problems, started freaking out. Attempted calling both professors - to no avail - emailed them - to no avail - and then I thought, when in doubt, call the Library Goddess.

Cause she always knows what to do.

And yet again, she was the voice of reason saying: it's probably the site not your computer, give it time, don't freak out, you'll be fine.

And when the Library Goddess declares it to be fine then all is fine.

And she was right, it was the site not my computer, and the professor was able to email us a link that worked and we went from there.

It's so weird not having an assignment due for that class until September 22nd.

I'm too used to Summer classes when everything is due right away cause we only have a month.

Next up for me though is practicum paper #1 - we have one due at the end of each month - which is more of a progress report really. And then I think there's like a final final paper to sum it all up.

I'm sure I'll have even more to say after tomorrow.

And he came in today - which he does pretty much daily - and joked around with Superwoman.

I was helping a patron but I could hear my name and them laughing.

Which she does just cause I'm gullible.

Apparently cause I'm "sunny and happy" at the practicum I need to be "sunny and happy" at 9AM at work.

But, as previously mentioned, anything before 10AM is questionable. Which is why BossLady always schedules herself to be around if I'm scheduled to count money.

Just cause she knows about every 10 minutes she'll hear me yelling for her.

But I can't help it if it doesn't add up right.

So work was fun and class turned out okay, now Carter and I are watching Robin Hood.

The original animated movie from the 70's.

"Hiss! You're never around when I need you!"

This was always my favorite of the Disney movies.

Though I don't remember it being this depressing.

I've been watching a lot of Disney movies lately.

That clip from Little Mermaid over and over - scroll down a few posts, you'll find it - plus Sword in the Stone which is under-rated and awesome.

Though they all remind me of this particular Sketch and Edit.

Sketch and Edit Watch a Movie

Based off a speech by one of my friends in college and then expanded upon.

"Seize the fat one!"

Oh, well that's PC.

What's "Corpulent"? Searching Google.

Ohh, I like it.

I'm gonna use it.

Alright, off to bed after this.

Don't wake up in a road side ditch.

Things I learned today:

-In Duluth, Minnesota it is illegal to allow animals to sleep in a bakery.

-In Idaho, you may not fish on a camel's back.

-All of the earth's continents are wider at the north than in the south - and nobody knows why.

-A group of frogs is called an army.

-90% of women who walk into a department store immediately turn to the right.

(those may be complete crap, just FYI)

-No matter how well-planned out things may seem, they can still go sideways.

The last one was especially true for today. They've finished the majority of the painting which means that books go back on the wall along the outside - or the car manuals at least cause that's their new permanent location.

When they took them down they attempted to keep them in order on the shelves and then line up the shelves so that it would be easier to put them back up....but the plan failed a bit.

Mostly because the lines they were put in were a bit out of order. But whatever, two hours later they were fixed and up.

The movers were seriously impressive, the Awesome Aide and I sat back and watched as these muscle-bound guys picked up the shelves with the books still on them and carried them around the room, then lifted them over their head and installed them.

And these are heavy books.

Dude.

Anyway, as well-planned as it was, since they weren't putting them back in the same section as they took them down it turned into a bit of a mess.

But we got it.

One of the dudes said if something goes wrong they'd have my back.

So Chet's Moving Service has got my back.

Made me feel special, haha.

But there was a lot of re-shelving things and organizing today which made me realize all this new supplies stuff I need to order, blah. I'm behind, but that'll be my goal for tomorrow: order conquer, tape, baskets, batteries....there was more but I'm blanking. Good thing I wrote it down.

Aside from the constant running all over the place was the constant heat which didn't help things but we're in Nebraska so we're used to it, anyway we found ways to distract ourselves, talking about the big game and our favorite commercials which is a frequent topic between myself and The New Guy.

Here are some of our favorites:

I'm a man of means by no means, King of the Road.

10-4 Good Buddy.

That was the theme of the day.

Oversize integration.

Did a lot of shifting.

Also sang a lot of Roger Miller with John Boy. It was highly amusing.

They painted - well they're painting - the walls at the library. One of the walls is purple which brought to his mind the line "They say roses are red and violets are purple, Sugar is sweet and so is maple surple."

Which led us to a discussion about Skating in Buffalo Herds, Chugging a lot of Lug, Danging ourselves and being Royalty of the Road.

And then we started singing King of the Road.

It was a slow day.

Which was actually quite convenient for oversize shifting purposes. The whole upstairs area is kind of a dangerzone as mentioned earlier. There's shelves all over the place, carts with loads of books, stuff out of order... I'll be glad when everything's painted, but there's still the matter of integrating what's left of the oversize along the walls and on the carts. We're only at 617.8ish.

And I mean, we have a serious amount of material, but some of other branches have more...that must have been even more stressful.

I'm just glad I got to jam out with the New Guy. They have us working in pairs for the most part. We found new shifting techniques that work wonders, aka one person on both sides of the shelf and then just pushing it through to the other side and putting them in order. Quite helpful. We did a lot in a little amount of time.

Then re-arranged some shelves so they could make more progress tomorrow.

There were a lot of 10-4 Good Buddy's.

I just do what I'm told really. They have enough going on, just give me a task and I'll go with it.

I did enough shifting at the home branch to get the techniques down.

And get used to books falling on my head.

That's how you could tell where I was in the building at the home branch, you'd hear a bunch of 'thump's and then one big 'ahhh!!' and you'd be able to pin-point my exact location.

All-in-all I'd call it a productive day.

After that got to jam with the boyfriend. He gave me a massage cause my back hurts. Best boyfriend ever. We watched Tower Heist and Mission Impossible.

Totally called it man.

Biggest named actor, I'm telling you. That's how it works.

But I figured it was time I watched the series since the 4th??? one is coming out of DVD. I'm on the list for that but I was told to watch them in order. 1 down. 3 to go.

Anyway, I should probably crash and burn soon. I haven't looked at tomorrow's schedule but I'm guessing it's more of the same. Though I do have Saturday off, woohoo!

"King of the Road" plus some impromptu song writing - Roger Miller and Johnny Cash

this was basically our attitude throughout the day, love it.
hysterical.

"Go get your groove on somewhere else."

You know, I've heard a lot of excuses from patrons about breaking the rules.

But today's excuse was brand new.

There are a lot of situations that happen at the library that would make for really great sketches on SNL.

The New Girl and I have discussed this. We should just forward them some of our incident reports.

This incident didn't really warrant one, but still.

Guy was hitting on a chick in the lab.

The New Guy told him he couldn't be in the lab if he wasn't signed up to use a computer.

He followed him out and rambled on about him being free to do whatever and all that. "I was just getting my groove on..."

The New Guy was strong, he's a good supervisor.

I would have completely lost it at that point.

Wordie was there to witness it - as he always is.

I was on the phone but overheard the majority of the conversation so I didn't get to comment until after he had left.

Me: "I'm sorry, did he just tell you he was 'getting his groove on' in the lab?"
The New Guy: "Yeah, go get your groove on somewhere else."
Wordie: "You gotta leave your groove outside, inside you gotta be smooth."

He's a poet.

"Too mellow to be one fellow, should've been a dozen."

It's just little stuff like that that makes my day.

That and being semi-productive, even for a Sunday.

Heard back from my college professor today. I took Criminology in college and since the theme for teens summer reading stuff is going to be a night theme I asked about some of the presenters that came and spoke to us. She gave me some tips, I e-mailed them, now I just gotta wait to hear back.

Woohoo! Progress!

After work I headed back to my college town to babysit for Second Sister's children. We jammed at the house, played some Kirby on the wii, watched some Tom and Jerry. They're cute like that.

Even got soup out of the deal. She always makes homemade stuff - our grandma used to make the noodles and there would be so many of them that she had them like hanging off the backs of chairs cause all the tables were already covered with them.

We ate soup for weeks.

Then I got to drive back in the snow and only almost died twice, woohoo!

You know, there are few times in which taking the road untraveled is unwise.

Driving through unplowed snow is one of them.

I'm stoked I don't have to deal with it again until tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully by then the roads will be cleared.

Speaking of tomorrow, totally need to get started on all that homework stuff.

The first assignment isn't huge, but will be time consuming. Analyze three catalogs and compare and contrast under specific categories.

After that I gotta figure out this whole article thing, we're all supposed to find one or present one or I don't know, my brain is fried when I think about all the confusion that's going to take place in my near-distant future.

Music Rec's

I would post "groove is in the heart" to go with today's excitement but I just did that a few weeks ago.

I'll hit you with a classic.

"Rock'n Me" Steve Miller Baby

they look fantastic live. but they've got years of practice.

and one that's been in my head.

"Everything's Just Wonderful" Lily Allen

i call this one the "Grocery Store Song" cause the melody sounds like something you'd hear in the background while shopping. or riding an elevator. or something. but then the lyrics totally thwart that. love it.

Carter and I are gonna jam out, watch some TV then crash.

keep on rock'n me baby...keep on rock'n me baby...keep on rock'n baby...keep on rock'n me baby, baby baby baby...

It's only half past twelve, but I don't care...

Today was a long day, 9-6. Not much to say other than I got nicknamed twice. Girlscout called me "Supergirl" in the morning. When I told that to Superwoman she laughed. I said I was Superwoman in training. She sometimes calls me Sidekick so it fits.
Then in the afternoon the New Guy called me the Queen of the Back Room. Which I am. It's kind of my lair. I spend a lot of my time scheduled there. Either because I'm one of the few people who can get through five carts in an hour or because they're tired of me being out front. Hmm...

So there was that. And Mom stopped by. Brought me CDs and picked one up for herself.

I found that there's a talk to text function on my phone so I can speak and it'll type what I say. Or what it thinks I'm saying. I attempted the "I am grief stricken" conversation again and it came up with "I am a great sturgeon" then "I am a green dragon" and finally got it right a few tries later.

Also, saw this today while watching The Grinch and had to post it.

so funny.

As we're up to I in the alphabet and there are far too many good ones I'll skip to that and ramble some more.

"I Drove All Night" Celine Dion

i enjoy her random pointing and air guitar moments.
although cyndi lauper actually legitimately rocks this song, (how many times can you say that?) I'm still posting this version because it's the version I head-banged to in high school so I could stay awake and finish my homework. sh, don't tell the dorm moms. but it made juwanna laugh. and that's what you want in a roommate.

well, that and one that will save you from demon furniture.
go here: My Life in Closed Captions: "Well, this is awkward."

granted i don't remove paintings from walls like some people but seriously, if you can top being attacked by a dresser while sleepwalking please let me know. there's more to the story if you're interested. tons in fact. made the school paper. which i was the editor of at the time, so that was fun.

"I Run To You" Lady Antebellum

this world keeps spinning faster to a new disaster
this was a college fascination. it was my favorite song for about two weeks. and then i was sick of it already. i haven't listened to it since, but it's good to jam to it again now.

"I Say A Little Prayer For You" My Best Friend's Wedding

who does her hair?!
how can you top this? seriously? i'm tempted to break out into song at the library but refrain because i enjoy my job. and my point level of 140. even though i'm stuck there and she won't give me any more. making me actually work for my points, geez. what a mean boss. what kind of lesson is that supposed to teach me? really?

"I Want You To Want Me" Cheap Trick

because i love them. i saw 10 Things I Hate About You and was doomed from then on.

"Istanbul" They Might Be Giants

Superhumann used this song as an educational tool to get us interested in world history in high school. it worked for me, not so much for the others. but that was true for me in a lot of her classes. that chick got me through high school. period. wasn't for her i dunno where i'd be today. definitely not where i am now.
high school english. i wanted to teach it because of her. then i got in the ed program and went, eh. too many hoops to jump through.
so i switched to behavioral sciences - yeah, less hoops to jump through there. but then the idea of being a social worker became completely depressing so i went back to english. which is helpful as it's where i am today.
anyway, this song has stuck with me over the years, because not only did we have to listen to it for world history, i also had to sing it onstage for one act junior year. in front of actual people. i played the token girlfriend - stereotyped that way, shutup sketch - and i got to jam on stage with my headphones. so, when the time came around that i would have to figure out what song i was actually going to sing and jam out to i went back to the old faithful director, who just happened to be superhumann, and we decided on this one. i still karaoke it with her to this day.
she's taught me a lot over the years. i still have her safety net in my wallet. high school was kind of a hard time in life for me. it was a dorm school and i was a very homesick kid - at first, it was okay in the end - but stress and school and being away from home got to me but she was there if i needed to talk. when i was having a particularly rough day she wrote me a note - 5 pages front and back - and i carried it around in my back pocket for years until it got almost torn to shreds. now it is safely tucked into my wallet which i carry with me every day.
another thing i got from her - which actually, she got from my uncle as he was once her teacher way way back, - is the saying...okay give me a second, i don't want to butcher it.

Say One Thing
Mean Another
Write A Third
Expect A Fourth
If It's Simple, Complicate It
It It's Complicated Draw A Picture
If It's On The Test Don't Talk About It

oh my god. just oh my god.

i'm still dying. yeah. those are the kind of guys that i hung out with in high school, so it's not hard to imagine them doing that. actually, pretty sure i've seen them do something similar but it was to the bohemian rhapsody.

"It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" Alan Jackson feat. Jimmy Buffet

love it. i sing it in my head often because it makes me laugh. brightens up the day.

Alright, that's enough I-Recs for the night. Off to sleep. Stoked to sleep in. Don't have to go in until 6 and then it's Home Library for two hours before I'm off all day Wednesday, woohoo!

Oh, the poor tarp people. Ninjutsu!

Today's Highlights include:
-Worked 9-5, flew by

-Got to help train The New Guy. Which is his nickname for now. I'm stoked cause I'm no longer the newest hire at the desk. He's actually pretty wicked awesome. I love it cause we're able to have a completely adult conversation about libraries, serving the public, demographics, collection management, system changes, just everything professional and then we jump to "What would you do if you had 100 million dollars?" I said I wanted a big big screen TV, an extensive DVD collection and a comfortable chair. That was apparently too small. Little Shelver Boy says he'd level one of the buildings nearby and turn it into his own personal library. New Guy says he'd donate 10 million to the library - can't hurt with your taxes - to refurbish ours, then build a new one that's a big circle with glass windows. I said he had to throw in some greenery. And a nice parking lot. Or a parking garage.

-Heard back from the Library Goddess and Superwoman so plans will be implemented, we'll see what happens. Sophie's Choice here I come.

-Getting a gang together to go see The Help, I'm all for a good distraction.

-Went to my niece's soccer game, she rocked it scoring the ONLY GOAL with her left foot. Total pro.

-Decided to hit up a Saltdogs game on sort of a spur of the moment kind of thing and it was awesome! We had our usuals - my hotdogs and margarita, Oldest Sister had her nachos, dip-n-dots and Chelada, M had cheesefries and a pop then some dip-n-dots. We did miss out on the funnelcakes though. Saltdogs were dominating and every run scored meant music which meant dancing - cause you can't disrespect the dance - and Oldest Sister taping us do the Rush Hour dance, you know the one.

1:41-1:51 best part of the movie
Then the Pheasants - yes the Pheasants - tied us at 7 in the 4th and then it was like
Little sprinkle of rain.
...
More little sprinkles of rain.
...
Torrential downpour.
Seriously.
So we ran for cover, standing behind this tarp banner thing that blocked most of the wind and rain but had holes in it so the back of my legs were just soaked.
Wind was a tree breaker - as they'd say on Swamp People...(when the alligators would break the tree branch off in order to escape.) Cause there were branches all over the highway on the way home.
Total madhouse. I ran into the apartment, saving my ipod, phone, notebooks and all that. The best part was that the guys behind us were looking at the radar and said, "Oh yeah, it's gonna miss us." Then they left. Cheaters.
But the poor tarp people. Oh man. It took them like 20 minutes to get the thing unrolled.

Songs of the night: aka the ones I jammed out to on the rainy drive back home

"Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" Journey live in '79

pretty sure there's lipsyncing involved in this one.

"Tequila" The Champs

what are the words again?

"Ninjutsu!" TMNT version.

sorry, just had to.

Tomorrow's weird cause I get an actual lunch break. 12-2. Plus finding parking. But still, weird. I'll take it.

Me and my big fat cat are out of here. Gonna watch the new Warehouse - which I keep saying that I'm going to but never get to it - and crash. It looks kind of like a Halloween episode - which I guess, if you think about it, every episode could be a Halloween episode, but in this one they get sucked into this video game thing or something and they'll all in costume. And no, it's not gonna be like Tron. Or Tron Legacy. Cause they're awful. And Warehouse is awesome. Totally stoked, wore my Claudia shirt to work the other day but masked it with a dress shirt over the top. Rocked it.
More to come.
