Holy crap I hit the 100,000 view mark.

Should really start posting more, I don't feel like I've earned it.

But I'm on it!

No idea how I went from every day to like twice a month, that's madness, madness I tell you!

Let's start with the zombie apocalypse.

There's this new patron at work whom I have amusing conversations with when she comes in. She said she was thinking about the zombie apocalypse and who from her work she would choose to have on her team. She said probably no one would pick her to be on their team but it was her fantasy so she was automatically included.

It got me thinking about the zombie apocalypse and what would happen if I was stuck at the library when it began.

I think we'd have an awesome team. I mean, we're smart people.

And I don't say that to be an ass, most of us do have advanced degrees, granted none of them in killing zombies, but still, we have the smarts to learn how to.

And plenty of reading material on it - have you checked out the young adult area lately? Tons of books on surviving the zombie apocalypse.

And because we've got brains on our side we'll figure out how to set things like booby traps (you'd be surprised by what you'd find in our basement) and strategize for an endgame.

Because of our collection of books, DVDs, and CD's we have plenty of entertainment to last us years. Plus access to the internet and lots of comfortable seating areas.

But I ain't sleeping in the sick room bed. I'll sleep on the floor before I'll do that. And actually have, in the basement, in the periodical stacks. Set an alarm to wake myself 15 minutes later, huzzah for breaks.

Anyway, because of our location we have great proximity to both food and booze. And the Walgreens around the corner for extra supplies.

And we have a security guard with a carrying permit whose job it would be to not only guard the place, but take teams out to bring supplies back.

So we do have some muscle.

Plus it's a library so if we were open when it happened we'd be joined by people with a variety of different skills.

I'd want Wordie on my team. He's a badass.

The only problem with our locale is the glass windows. We'd have to do something about that. Board them up with old shelves I supposed. There's plenty of those in the basement.

Yes, these are the thoughts that we have at work. Anything to add comrades?

So there's that.

What else?

I've started eating lunch in the basement with the Queen of the Known Universe.

We find it amusing because we sit on the same side of the table and in front of us there's this big screen like we're waiting for a movie to start or something. Though she's usually reading or on her computer and I'm either playing hearts or sudoku on my ipod.

Oh, got a couple of Scale of Awesome's for you.

I finally saw The Matrix.



Well, I shouldn't say finally saw, I should say finally completed watching - I did see about 2 minutes of the beginning with my cousins before I fell asleep cause it was like 3AM when we started it back in the 90's.

I remembered none of it and asked the boyfriend a million questions as it went on.

Was totally grossed out by the pod scene, but the rest was pretty bitchin', giving this one a 9/10 on the Scale of Awesome.

We now have to watch the rest of the series. Luckily I gave him the trilogy on blu-ray for Christmas.

Also, on the opposite of the movie spectrum, though I guess not completely since this one did involve time travel so it was sort of sci-fi-ish but really not...you've got About Time.



Not as good, but really from the preview I wasn't expecting much. Scale of Awesome puts that one around 5/10. Had its moments, but they were few and far between.

Did I mention that Attachments by Rainbow Rowell is like an 11/10 on the Scale of Awesome? If you have no idea what I'm talking about scroll down, it's basically all I talked about in the last two entries. Did you hear her YA book Eleanor and Park is gonna be made into a movie?

I've started a new novel in an effort to give myself space from Beth, Jennifer and Lincoln, it's called The Martian by Andy Weir. About a man stranded on mars. It's funnier than it sounds. But I'm not far enough into it to give it a fair rating really so I'll skip that for now.

I'm also doing a ton of editing, which is always a 10/10, and why is it that whenever I watch something with an accent - even if it's just a clip - that for the next few hours I can only talk in that accent?

Like this entire post since that About Time clip has been written in a British accent.

I'm aware you don't see it that way, but perhaps now you'll read it that way.

Life Size Game Day is coming up on Saturday so I finished my final preparations and actually went up to 4th to visualize it. I think I found a way for all three games to coexist. We're playing Candyland, Scrabble and Angry Birds. Gonna be an interesting afternoon. But only if people show up. Otherwise it'll be lame.

Apparently I have no life when the boyfriend gets sick because I went to bed at 9:30 last night. For serious, I woke up at 11:30 and went what the crap? It actually worked? And fell immediately back to sleep.

Oldest Sister would call me a panty-waste for going to bed that early so I'm pushing for at least 10 tonight.

Oh look, I've made it.

Thinking about turning on some Whose Line and crashing early again.

Last night it was the NC vs. Stanford game. Go trees. But UConn is gonna dominate.

Is that really their mascot, the tree? I guess I can't really talk cause I'm a Cornhusker fan.

To be fair we used to be the bug-eaters so it has slightly improved.

oh and if you're wondering about the title of this post - one of our regular patrons is a deaf gentleman. one day he needed quarters. as i do not know how to sign we had a lovely conversation on a slip of paper at the end of which he told me i was a nice lady. i took the slip and put it in the back of my nametag. the zombie apocalypse lady asked about said slip and i explained. on the way out she said that over her shoulder.

and it feels so good to hurt so bad and suffer just enough to sing the blues...

Alright, new responsibilities include Supplies which is basically a job in itself. Not so much at the home branch, but the work branch, geez. You know how many printers and copiers and stockpiles of supplies are in a 4 story building?

At least most of the units fend for themselves so it's not like every room needs to be supplied. Just mostly floors one and two. And a little in the basement.

I can handle that.

But add to that I got backup to Fearless Leader in Damages.

Again, fine.

I was already doing that anyway at the home branch. There is about double the amount of items to worry about from there to here, but it's still the same process. Mostly. Except here we can just run down to the basement to TPD and retrieve a part that was missing instead of sending it over through delivery and wait for it to be processed.

Whatever, those are cake compared to this next one.

Okay, how do I explain this really without the nervous ramblings. I'll save those for later.

Pretty much the Young Adult Librarian for the work branch. Except without the title.

They gave me the Young Adult Section and TAB.

aka Teen Advisory Board.

Which is filled with teenagers.

Who plan events.

Like a prom.

At the library.

Yes, a prom.

At the library.

No pressure.

Can I just say how much I'm loving having a mentor on this one? She's fantastic! Youth librarian and has been doing this for years, and although I'm sure she'd love to dump it all on me, she's graciously sticking with me for a few months until I'm alright to take over.

Aaannd, along with all that goes with joining the Youth Services crew, aka getting the emails and going to the meetings.

Today was some prime real estate in that department. Never did I ever realize how important something such as a start date is.

Summer Reading Program.

Does it start the day after school ends, or do we wait until June 1st like always?

Kids come in the day after wanting to start.

Do we tell them to wait a week and come back on the 1st?

It's always been June 1st to July 31st.

Super easy to remember that way.

But do you really want to tell a kid to come back next week because we're not ready for them?

That was the debate today. It got heated enough to be interestingly humorous.

I sat back in awe.

I knew librarians were passionate and anti-stereotype, but this was a whole new experience there.

Apparently that's serious business.

And it is. I'm sure there will be more heated opinions when it's brought up again.

But there's time for that later. Today was pretty cool, getting to meet people involved in the whole process and listening to them promote picture books.

And "volunteering" (I use that word loosely as it was more like my mentor and Girlscout aka my two supervisors in this thing pointing to me when they asked for one) to help out with some stuff.

It was a cool changeup from the norm.

I'm looking forward to the challenge actually.

I don't want to shake things up though, things run pretty smoothly as they are.

I do, however, want to take stock of supplies and come up with some sort of spreadsheet of everything and where it's stored. Cause that would be a good thing to have. But I'll get to that later.

My current project is the YA area, aka going through and weeding older books because we're out of space. So I get to do that while I pull every book from the shelf, scan it and change the status, meanwhile watching the last checked out date and how many circ stats it has so I can weed properly.

That'll take me a few days purely because I'm still working at the desks and the lab through the day. I only get to work on those projects and assignments when I'm "off-desk" or scheduled to check-in in the back if there's nothing to check-in.

Gonna be a wild ride.

But like I said, I'm stoked for the challenge.

I think I can handle it.

I'm sure there will be some bumps in the road. A lot of freak out moments.

But I've got some great people to look up to in these areas so I'm not too worried.

At this moment anyway.

Ask me in about a month when things are in full swing.

So that was my day.

At work.

There was more after.

Headed out to Barnes and Noble to support Squirt and Bubby as they sang and played piano there. It was a fundraiser of sorts where part of the proceeds went to the school and all that. Kind of a cool deal. So I got a lot of Christmas shopping done.

Although I'm still clueless on a few people.

I'm gonna look for some more stuff tomorrow when I go grocery shopping.

Originally I was gonna go to the farm tonight but the roads suck again, and with my luck on the roads lately I'm putting nothing to chance in that category.

So, I'll sacrifice all that by sleeping in and watching some more Leverage. I'm caving and gonna start season three tonight.

Season two will get here, eventually.

Freakin' snow.

While some of us are living it up in Hawaii!!! Yeah, enjoy your beaches and drinks with the umbrellas in them. The rest of us will jam here in the snow. Just bring me back something nice.

i've posted the radio version of this multiple times, but i just found this one and loved it. there are two video videos of this song, one whose graphics will make you dizzy and the other in which they walk through places like a forest and the desert. and there's a lot of underwater camera work. and spinning. which i guess could make you dizzy as well. so i'll give you this one. it's a fantastic group, they're not american so you probably haven't heard of them. i find them delightful.

My coworkers are cooler than your coworkers...

The second segment in a series I'm going to call "My job is cooler than your job". I say as humbly as I can. Here's part one from back in December: My Life in Closed Captions: Here's a little segment called: "My boss is cooler...

What brought this back is that apparently, people think I'm nuts because I would rather work than do something else. Some are joking and some are boyfriends who are upset by my priority choices. But seriously, how often can you find coworkers who will pretend to be your girlfriend to make the creepers go away, or give you their happy meal toys, or form a fake band, or make up slogans to wear on matching tshirts, or go along with your crazy nickname system, or turn super protective when something goes wrong? When you're able to go to work and actually not mind the fact that you're at work instead of at home sleeping - that's when you know that you found somewhere you belong. Anyway, if you still don't understand and think my priorities are skewed then that just proves my point. You don't have coworkers as cool as mine.

Moving on.

Okay, so I had this major update to a new ipod recently since I have too much music to fit in an 8GB one. Sad, I know. So, instead of just 1500 songs now I have over 4000 and counting. I'm feeling a bit like Abby right now when she buys ipods for everyone on NCIS and Gibbs says he only listens to 5. She's like only 5000? Here I'll find it.


Anyway, since there's an increase in songs on the ipod there's also an increase in skippage aka putting it on shuffle and skipping songs until I get to one I actually listen to frequently. I mean, I listen to all of them but there are certain like contexts for each song... If that makes sense. Like sometimes you don't want to listen to a song, not because you don't like it, you're just not in the mood for it. Anyway, my point is, I found a few songs that I not only never skip but constantly put the thing on repeat and listen to them over and over. And I know I've done favorite songs day during favorites week My Life in Closed Captions: These are a few of my favorite things - Day One: M... (yes I will overload you with links in this post) so I'm limiting these to songs that have only come out recently (or semi-recently). I'm pretty sure I've posted at least half of these before, oh well.


Song 1: Since You've Been Gone - no not Kelly Clarkson or Aretha but Theory of a Deadman.

This was my first music rec ever on here (well that and Ashlyne Huff's "Heart of Gold") way back in January...My Life in Closed Captions: Happy , Happy New Year! Hooray for Apples to Apples.

This is a total jam out song, I'm diggin it. Loving these guys (despite that they look like they're 12), and iTunes for giving it to me for free. iTunes' free music each week isn't actually all that bad, especially for indie stuff.

Why my new relationships never work. Kind of a theme song for me actually. Which is why it goes on repeat.

Loving this version, and the choreography is excellent as always.

Pretty sure this one has everything to do with the deep voice. It's like Josh Turner all over again.

If you're only going to watch one of these videos make it this one. Gwyneth is amazing. She's like Cher or Ellen - she doesn't even need a last name, I'm gonna start a campaign! I'll call it the "Gwyneth needs no last name campaign" . Rhymes and everything. She's so talented and so funny that there can only be one word to describe her awesomeness: "Gwyneth". You could use it as an adjective like as in, "That outfit is so Gwyneth! Like oh my god!" She's someone who can actually pull off something like naming her child "Apple" and I'm okay with it. (Look it up I'm not making that up). I'm doing it. I'll start a trend. "Gwyneth" is going to be my word of the week. Don't question the "Gwyneth".
I don't know about you, but I'm totally making the Wordsmith watch "Country Strong" with me tonight. He's used to my chick flicks anyway.

Joe Studley and the Lost in Transit

So we decided to form a band today at work. I did the lost in transit list and we discussed how that would be a cool band name so the QofA is gonna play flute, my Glee-loving boss will play trumpet, my other boss is gonna play piano, I'll play guitar and Joe Studley is gonna be our lead singer. He's gonna do impressions of his favorite bands, we think it'd be exciting. Now all we need is a drummer. But we'll call ourselves "Joe Studley and the Lost in Transit" or just "Lost in Transit" I'm partial to the Joe Studley version just because that nickname is so funny. He used it to describe someone and now it's sticking to him. Am I the only one who hasn't heard that expression before?
