Today was good.
They fixed YA.
aka the Young Adult area.
Made it less like a waiting room, expanded it, yet closed it off to the creepers waiting to get into the computer lab...pretty much everything that I asked for so I'm happy.
Gonna take the TAB kids for a detour after the meeting, see what they think. And if they have interest in making posters to deck out the new area.
What else?
I finally caught up with supplies, well the requests at least. They're submitted and everything will get ordered by the end of the week...
Went grocery shopping, put air in my tires, did laundry and dishes...
Ummm...oh, switched out the "teen scenes in green" display for one on National Humor Month.
Which is apparently April.
Had no idea 'til I cruised the Chase book in search of display ideas.
Also didn't realize there are like 5 library-related holidays in the month of April.
There's like National Library Week and then Library Worker day and like School Library Day and Drop Everything and Read Day and then there's another but I'm blanking. I'll check tomorrow.
I love that book.
Chase's holiday calendar - that's how I found out about Spunky Old Broad's month. And that display rocked man.
It's just filled with the most random holidays ever. And they're all documented!
Like April 15th is "Well That Sucks" day.
Yes, I'm completely serious.
Because it's tax day but it's also the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
So everything sucks about that day.
Hence the holiday's title.
There's also a day in April - which again I'm blanking the exact date though I'm sure I could google it - that is Louie Louie Day. Like the song. Apparently it's been covered more than any other rock song in history and there was some mention of it almost becoming the state song for Washington.
Here are some other random tidbits I learned throughout the day:
-If you went out into space you would explode before you suffocated because there's no air pressure.
-Isaac Asimov is the only author to have a book in every Dewey Decimal category.
-In Alabama it is illegal to stab yourself to gain someone's pity.
-The average American will eat 35,000 cookies in a lifetime. (though probably more in the case of Pete Lattimer)
-All polar bears are left-handed.
-Walt Disney was afraid of mice.
-The Guinness Book of Records holds the record for being the book most often stolen from Public Libraries. (though in lincoln that honor would go to either the twilight series or Guide to the Ghosts of Lincoln)
-All 50 states are listed across the top of the Lincoln Memorial on the back of the $5 bill.
-In Florida it is illegal to fish while driving across a bridge. (um, duh?)
-The first person to go over Niagara falls was Annie Edson-Taylor. She made the trip in a wooden barrel and survived.
-Wine will spoil if exposed to light, that's why the bottles are tinted.
again, these may be complete crap but i found them entertaining.
and yes that was a warehouse reference with lattimer, get over it. i'm still in shock and denial and will remain that way until the season opens and everything is fixed!!
Quote of the Day:
"I love cheese!!" Fearless Leader's reason for not transitioning from vegetarian to vegan. But she yelled it so it was hilarious.
Reminded me of my I like cheese but I don't like cheese speech. Go here: My Life in Closed Captions: New Shoes, the Cheese Speech, Warped Tour and MXPX...
Song of the night:
"It's All Been Done" Barenaked Ladies
i was thinking about making it Barenaked Ladies Appreciation Week but then realized that if someone didn't know that was the name of a band they may take it horribly horribly wrong.
And I'm out for the night. 9 hours of work tomorrow plus some editing means I'll be completely zonked so I should sleep while I can.
I could write a blog. I have thoughts.
Life at the library, adventures with friends and other hysterics...

I could wash my car in the rain, change my new guitar strings...
In light of yesterday's shocking I-don't-hate-onions discovery I switched up my lunch today. Ordered a Turkey and Swiss with Cheetos as opposed to my usual Chicken Salad with Cheetos. And, gonna say...totally through off my entire lunch period. Not cool.
Yes, I order the same thing every day, but at least I vary the ice cream flavor. I set goals, thinking if I shelve all the carts in the morning I deserve ice cream or if I finish a list, answer a difficult question that I wouldn't have been able to when I first started, get thanked by a patron....really any excuse that seems worthy enough to deserve ice cream. Then I get it with my lunch. Today I finished the Young Adult Weed List so I got Cookie Dough and it was awesome. So awesome that I almost forgot how much the sandwich sucked.
Not like it sucked cause it was bad. It was good. I'm just apparently not a Turkey and Swiss kind of person. I'm gonna stick with my Chicken Salad for now. It's dependable and tasty. If I don't think about what's in it. I hate mayo. And miracle whip. So that just doesn't exist in this sandwich. Don't tell me otherwise or I will hate you for eternity. This sandwich is serious business man.
Except Obi-Wan made me order something else when we went out to eat during post-camp stuff even though Chicken Salad was on the menu. So I had some sort of something that had melted cheese on it and yeah, again, not the same. I'm not a fan of melted cheese. Pretty sure I gave you the "I like cheese but I don't like cheese" speech already. If you missed it go here: My Life in Closed Captions: New Shoes, the Cheese Speech, Warped Tour and MXPX...
We went out to eat at basically the only place to eat in G-Town. Well that and the Dairy Delite which is closed for the season. There's also a barbeque joint but I don't know the hours. But this is the place that my mother basically lived off of when dad was in the hospital and we lived amongst the white walls and sterile equipment. Where else are you gonna go when you can't go home? So, of course they have their usual orders as well. Second Sister included with her to-go cup.
It's not that I'm not a variety kind of person. I like...you know...sometimes theres... Okay so I'm not a variety kind of person. Except for when it comes to media. Movies, Music, TV - I'm into it all. There. Saved my sanity. I'm all about the variety. Ha. Just not when it involves food. Which sounds weird cause I'll try almost anything. Almost. I just like my usuals when I can get them.
Anyway, so I'm done with my first assignment. Queen of the Known Universe was very helpful in this matter with tips and all that. I love my coworkers. QofA brought me farm animal crazy bands this morning - I'm wearing a yellow duck one, it's awesome. But Mission Statement is written, revised, and submitted. Due tomorrow night. Done tonight. Now I gotta read some of the text and get ready for next week's assignment.
Despite the sandwich mishap it was a good day. Mom brought me cookies - na, na, na, na-na...we do a lot of na-na'ing in our family - gave some to smart people and got a point, huzzah! I'm at 136. Gaining on Space Cadet slowly but surely.
Also, got to jam with the security guard for a while. Seemed everyone was losing all sorts of things today, cellphone covers, backpacks, lanyards, stomach contents...
Oh yeah. Real deal. It was disgusting. I was at the front desk and all the sudden we heard this like heaving. Like serious serious heaving coming from the restrooms. I look up at the guard who's looking at me with her eyebrows raised. Then I hear "Hey, you work here. Go check it out," come from one of our usuals who sits in the same chair every day reading a book. I smile, look at the guard and and make a head nod in the direction of the bathroom. I was her backup. It was awesome. And gross at the same time. But the bathroom dude had it covered. He was sober - which is unusual for someone who's heaving in our bathrooms - but the heat was apparently in the 100s so it took him out. Way way out.
Aaannnd on that note, I'm gonna hit you with some music before I go way way out to the world of sleep. I'm exhausted. Maybe it's all the variety.
Sometimes when I have no idea what to recommend for music I put my ipod on shuffle saying, "Okay, whatever song plays is going on there." And then I hit it and the song sucks. Or the intro is too boring. Or the rare occasion where I've already posted it - did I mention variety? - And I end up hitting skip like 8 times before a decent song arises. This was one of those songs.
"Better Things to Do" Terri Clark
like dance in canyons and drive in circles around you...
did you ever have an ex that whenever they took the time to actually contact you you knew that they were at that time fighting with their current girlfriend? and you didn't even have to check facebook to see if that was actually the case? this is my theme song when it comes to those moments.
"I Gotta Go" Robert Earl Keen
if you hurry you can grab it for free off itunes. love it.
i'm sorry that this has turned into some sort of country week. first it was Patty Loveless and Mary Chapin Carpenter. then The Judds. then the Dixie Chicks. now this. to be fair i did throw in some Cake. it's all about the ipod man. blame the shuffle.
here. watch this. it fixes everything.
"Mahna Mahna" Cake
go for it uncle steve. you know you want to. it's just that awesome. star wars plus cake plus the muppets. and it matches up with the beat. diggin' it.

New Shoes, the Cheese Speech, Warped Tour and MXPX
So I felt like a total dork today - and yesterday - cause I got these new shoes and I like them. So I'm trying not to drag my feet and ruin them.
Which is awful and hard and ridiculous.
It's ridiculous that it's this hard to walk like a normal person.
But I have to start because it kills my shoes and my jeans. The backs break open inside the shoe so there's big holes and the bottoms get worn off of the backs like my jeans. Then my sister looks at them and says we have to go shopping and I totally don't like clothes shopping cause people make me try things on.
So, less dragging feet = less damage to shoes and jeans which also = less time in an awkward dressing room while there are people outside waiting to critique me.
But I feel like everyone is watching me walk like I'm this weird awkward weirdo.
It took me two minutes to come up with another word that could come after 'awkward' and got nothing. So W.A.W. it is. I like it.
But I can change. I am right now - eating eggs and toast for supper, I used to hate eggs. I still do. But I'm eating them anyway. Maybe it's just cheesy eggs that I can't eat. But that's because I don't like cheese. But I do like cheese.
Crap.
Are you following any of this?
Does that mean I have to give you the speech? I did say there was a speech attached to that one in my first post. See My Life in Closed Captions: *Insert Clever Title Here*
I could go on for probably half an hour because that's the length of my average ramble so I'll give you the short version.
I like cheese but I don't like cheese.
Melted cheese is disgusting but I love grilled cheese sandwiches.
But only if they're dipped in tomato soup.
I like regular cheese on like crackers and stuff so maybe it's just the melted that gets to me. It's like goo. I don't like cheesy eggs but that's probably because I don't like eggs... Which apparently now I do.
But I really don't.
Only if they're with toast.
Or like in a cake or something.
Like that Guy dude from the Food Network.
That's the short version, I'll stop there.
I'm also mourning the loss of my awesome black Warped bag.
The strap broke so it's been bring-your-backpack-to-work day. And probably will be again tomorrow.
I don't do purses. No. Messenger bag all the way. I've had it since '05. I got it in Denver at Warped Tour. My oldest sister says that no matter if she sews it it will bust again. So I'll send it home with Mom to have her look at it.
6 years man.
That's a serious relationship.
I can't just give up on it completely and jump in with a new bag. That's not right.
So, in honor of the bag's memory and possible reinstatement if fixable I'm posting this picture.

Commemorating its origin and the fun I had with my friends while hanging out with cute drummers, getting overloaded with free stuff, and listening to Billy Idol (yes I saw him live), My Chemical Romance (yes I saw them live), Hawthorne Heights, Simple Plan and the whole reason I got the bag - MXPX - which was branded awesomely on the cover.
I don't want to get emotional.
*fake tears*
It was just a bag.
It was just a bag.
But really, it wasn't just a bag. I still have the stuff I got from Warped in the back pocket - stickers, flyers, even a map of Denver for a certain friend who got lost on the way of meeting me there.
That is definitely on my list of favorite things I've ever done.
That'd be an interesting blog post - favorite life moments...hmmmm...later maybe.
Anyway, I love MXPX. "Panic" is their best cd - in my mind anyway. "Wrecking Hotel Rooms" was in my ipod on repeat for months. The lyrics to the verses are ridiculous but the chorus is awesome and has a good melody - which is the epitamy of punk rock really. The lyrics don't make sense but it sounds cool. So you go with it. Haha.
They have a website...ooo, I see new merchandise in my future. Maybe a new bag. It won't be the same but it will have to do.
Aaaannnd she's out. For the night. More tomorrow, have a good one.
