I could write a blog. I have thoughts.

Life at the library, adventures with friends and other hysterics...

"It's cold out and I'm not wearing pants. Where are you?"

So I cleaned my apartment tonight.

But not just cleaned it, moved it.

Basically.

Everything from the living room (but the couch, TV and bookshelves) is currently in the kitchen.

That includes shelves, chairs...and the foosball table.

"Why is your foosball table in your kitchen?" one might ask.

Cause they're coming to steam clean my carpets tomorrow.

And I have nowhere else to put it.

You should see my bedroom.

Definitely sleeping on the couch tonight.

As there is nowhere to sleep in the bed.

Carter is loving this whole wide open space thing.

Like he sprawled out by the window, then five minutes later he got up and sprawled out by the door, then he was in the middle of the floor, now he's in the middle of the floor on a footstool.

It's like a whole new apartment in here.

"I had no idea I had such chatty liberal arts hair."

Watching The Makeover.

Julia Stiles is making a comeback.

She did Dexter, Silver Linings, now she's in this.

"Now let's see if we can get you to stop sounding like a pirate. Having a heart attack. While gargling."

And apparently she stars in some show called Blue.

Which I think is on YouTube.

Not like clips, like the show airs on YouTube.

Anyway, this is basically like My Fair Lady but in reverse.

Hannah Higgins, Elliot Doolittle.

Hannah runs for congress and loses. She's not likable enough. Her opponent dies after he's elected. Elliot's a beer vender who wants to become a supervisor and comes to her for speech lessons. She decides he would make a good candidate for congress.

It's highly entertaining.

Thinking 7/10 on the Scale of Awesome.

Been giving out a lot of 7's lately.

They're all good movies, just not like stellar, perfection, stunned speechless kind of stuff.

And for some reason a lot of them lately have been Lifetime movies.

Or I guess this was Hallmark, whatever.

I blame the library for having them available.

And Julia Stiles for getting me interested.

And Lauren Ambrose for getting me interested in the last one.

And before that is was Sara Rue and what's his name from Samantha Who.

That wasn't intended to rhyme.

Anyway, today was interesting.

More training.

Fixed flyers.

I'm off tomorrow and Summer Reading starts tomorrow so I figured it would probably be wise to hang up some ones for the kickoff next week.

Only took me an hour for the font to come out right.

Luckily I had already started the flyer, it just wasn't like stellar, perfection, stunning people speechless and all that.

Now it is wicked sweet.

Gotta make posters for every event.

And now I'm making them for other peoples' it's highly entertaining.

Alright, aside from that I can't really remember anything about today.

Staff meeting.

Talked about the Summer Reading Program.

Yep.

All I got.

So apparently you like the quote books.

I found one that I used to carry around when I first started working in the library system - PS, right now it is officially the 24th which means I've worked at the work branch for three years. Mother Frito, Son of a Beandip - sorry, will talk about that more tomorrow cause this post, like many posts, is gonna say it's 11:50PM.

Anyway, so I ran into this one while cleaning my apartment.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Me: "He says I deserve a pizza."
Superwoman: "Crap."

Me: "That'll be me in 50 years."
Space Cadet: "But you'll use your inside voice. Unless you're too deaf to hear it."

Super Librarian Status: *on my sister-in-law calling me Pippi* "You have a lot to live up to. Just don't throw angry customers across the room."

Slim Shady: "Magnet, magnet magnet."

Oldest Sister: "Picture 'I can't run anymore I'm gonna puke!' and then running the next couple steps."

Oldest Sister: "They didn't punch a hole, they punched a crawlspace."

Nina: "Guess what I got."
Finch: "Why, are they stumped down at the clinic?"

Superwoman: "Are you free tonight? Do you have to call your mother?" ONE TIME. geez.

Supervisor: "Don't run in the library."
Kid: "I'm jogging!"

Chief from Carmen Sandiego: "If cheese isn't safe in Wisconsin nothing is safe in Wisconsin!"

Wordie: "You guys okay?"
Corey: "I have hay fever. She's hungover."

King of Useless Knowledge: "Spontaneous combustion is pretty awesome, unless it happens to you."

Mom: *about church during a holiday weekend* "I can be giddy. No one else will be there!"

Bubby: "Porkchop karate!"

Second Sister: "It's an appropriate amount of freakage."

Brother: "Just say 'oh pigeons.' Well, it's appropriate cause they're annoying as crap."

Squirt: "Lock him in the closet with a piece of cheese and a glass of water."

Brother: "We'll split the trains four ways. She can have the beer mugs."
Second Sister: "I want the Corve."
Me: "Can I have the Bird?"
Brother: "Yes, we'll flip you the bird."

Roz: "You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Marco. I've seen the future and its name is Marco!"

Mom: "You get money when you die."
Me: "What am I supposed to do with it?
Mom: "Bury yourself."

Mom:*about a seatbelt though Second Sister likes to quote it about other things* "Get that on! I don't wanna see you hanging out!"
Me: "The doors are closed!"

Aunt Hay-Hay: "We ordered an ostrich and they had to go find one."

And then it goes on to homework notes but I'll post more of the college ones throughout this week.

For now I should sleep.

No idea what time the guys are coming tomorrow.

Probably 8AM.

Ahh!!

I'll have my assistant set an alarm.

Sam!!

On to the music:

Heard this one of my way home.

Cruel to Be Kind - Nick Lowe

speaking of Julia Stiles - my favorite movie of hers - this is the scene I think of when I hear that song.

gotta love it.

gonna have to make Squirt watch it if she hasn't seen it already.

out for the night.

"Why aren't you in the upper balcony?"

Moment of the day:

Walked into the professors office and went, "Whoa. I interviewed here."
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"

I'll get there in a minute.

Day like any other, woke up, went to work, updated the website, checked in a bunch of stuff cause there was no delivery yesterday. I'm starting to realize we took our old delivery guy for granted. Uh, what else? Oh did some major supplies stuff cause apparently I was way behind on that. Copied some application forms, used the guillotine chopper thing, then checked in even more stuff.

It was funny because - okay we have like a daily schedule and we have specific places to be each hour - and today it was like 2nd floor, PS2, circ workroom, Lab desk, then lunch, then I had like circ workroom, holds, off desk, and then ended at Youth Services so my afternoon was like on my own time. It was fantastic. I checked in a bunch of stuff but there were like 4 other people scheduled to be back there in the afternoon so most of my time was spent on supplies and volunteer stuff.

Trying to come up with a list of stuff to do for volunteers who can't shelve. I have a lady coming in on Tuesday and the only things I can think of that she might be interested in is cleaning displays and maybe edging shelves. Cause she'll be a long term adult volunteer and I'm guessing things like sharpening pencils and sorting colored strips will be of little interest to her.

Ideas?

So after work I headed over to one of our other branches because my professor is the branch manager there. I walk in her office and go whoa. Flashbacks. Cause that's where I interviewed to make the temp job permanent. The first interview I did, well that was with Queen of the Known Universe and Super Librarian Status in the basement of the work branch. Immediately following that was with my Glee-Loving Boss and Girlscout at the home branch. Third came with Superwoman in her office and that was for the 20 hour summer temp job. Then the library judge - as he now goes by - took some time off so I stayed 'til October and that's when they decided they needed two more people - one at the work branch and one at the branch I went to tonight - so they panel interviewed me basically in that office and I got the work branch job.

Which was my preference.

Then they panel interviewed me again - same people, different office this time it was back to Superwoman's - to make the 20 hours permanent turn into 40 hours permanent.

Anyway, I was like, "i interviewed in this office" and she was totally lost cause I don't currently work there.

She rocks. For serious.

Like, we were supposed to have class on Saturday but I couldn't make it, which was okay because originally there was no class scheduled that day and when they added a different one they said we could meet with her to make up for it if we couldn't make it. Since I had the wedding I chose to go to that and just meet with her later. The class on Saturday was supposed to go 8:30-2:30. I got off work at 6:05 tonight, got there at about 6:20, I think we were done by 7:40.

But it's all html stuff. Actually it's pretty cool, by the end of the assignment I'll be able to type this entire thing on html instead of switching back and forth between that and composition mode. Would make my life a bit easier, but I'll have to learn all the codes. Or learn to copy and paste them from the tutorial websites they gave us links to.

I remember we built our own websites in high school, but that was like sophomore year Computer Applications with Tutor Bode like 5 years ago. I remember something about typing in specific numbers for colored texts and backgrounds but for the life of me I don't remember what they were. I do remember building a sweet house with an awesome colorful dance floor, plus some flyers for a party with my fellow PEUBH Juwanna.

Cause we were the Popular Evil Ugly Bitchy Hags.

Don't ask.

It's a roommate thing.

We had a lot of those.

Alright, I'm aware that this post was a complete and utter waste of your time and I'm totally boring and about to get more boring cause the second I log off here I'm back to homework.

So watch this, it will make up for all of my boringness.

Finesse Mitchell talks about Prince

"why are ya'll up there?"
"how the hell you get down there?"
"forget all that, can you get to me in case something go on down here?!"

Watch it, you'll love it.

Shout out of the day: To you, unshaven young dude with the white t-shirt and baggy jeans running through traffic to make it to the parking garage. I know you thought the chick you passed was good looking and had to turn around to take another look but you almost got ran down by a bus so perhaps you should watch where you're going instead of leering at strangers.

And that's all I got. Have a good one.

Friday, June 8, 2012

So he found a chump sucker by the name of Cassio.

And so the day ends with more frustration and stress than it started, but I guess that happens.

I made an effort. And really that's more than I do for a lot of people so I'm going to bed with a clear head.

Or attempting to go to bed with a clear head cause if I don't I'll be a mess tomorrow.

And tomorrow is a big day.

Class at 8:30 meaning I leave at 7 and stop for coffee for myself and the Library Goddess on the way there. Then I get to act all smart and professional like I know what I'm doing and crap.

But as "crap" is not professional I'm getting all my "crap"s out now.

Driving today was crap.

Construction around work today was crap.

The blasting music from the festival surrounding us was crap.

Or maybe it wasn't, all we could hear were the back beats.

And they were crap.

And endless.

Endless crap.

That's all of my crap for now.

I mean, there was more, but I'll leave it at that.

The slow traffic at work today drove me bananas. I actually had time to sit down and check my e-mail. Which is a rarity as of late. So I made some progress on the Food Drive plan, plotted with my partner in crime about some details.

All will be revealed next week at the management team meeting so stay tuned.

What else did I do today? Think of good stuff.

Oh got Noodles for lunch. That rocked.

Waiting in line for half an hour for them was crap.

Oops, good things, ummm....

I got to work with Slim Shady for an hour. And say more than two words to Fearless Leader who I rarely see at all.

They don't let us work together anymore, pretty sure it's a conspiracy. The only time I see them is in the parking lot after work!

Actually that's kind of amusing because pretty much everyone parks there or in the garage across from it so on the way out we ran into Super Librarian Status who had to come back for his daughter's dance recital. It's humorous to walk into work together in the mornings, looks like we carpooled or something.

And then of course there was the time we almost got pummeled by Superwoman. Of all the times to have jaywalked - dude, don't do that in front of your boss. She'll not only give you crap for it, she'll also almost hit you with her car.

But Slim Shady started it!

I just followed!!

And the funniest thing was that we didn't even realize that it was her that was flying towards us until she pulled up to the light and honked, then rolled down the window and yelled at us.

Then told us she does it all the time.

Too funny.

But I guess jaywalking is a way of life when you work downtown.

What else from today? Oh yeah, so endless frustration forced me into finding my happy place, aka camp stuff. So I uploaded more application info and sorted it out. Then attempted to write some skits but everything came out all angst.

And the parents don't want angst. So I distracted myself with the Reduced Shakespeare Company on DVD instead.

Oldest Sister and I went to see them live, it was highly entertaining. Not as good as they were live, but you should check out the copy in the library. It's fantastic.

Here's my favorite: The Othello Rap

stick with it, it's worth it.

"Cause he had a big- SWORD!"

Adam is actually one of the founding members of the troop, the others were added later. But he's my favorite, and they're always making him wear the wigs and be the girl.

Okay, I've officially been distracted. Gonna throw on some Big Bang Theory and crash. Early day tomorrow.

I've got the moves like Jagger.

Dear Blogspot,

Today I rocked it.

Got to use my new coffee machine this morning, well, my parents' old one cause they got a new one, but it's NEW TO ME so I'm calling it new. Anyway, it has a timer so it was ready when I woke up, awesomeness. Grabbed some fruit and hit the road.

Opened up first floor, finished up the YA project, worked at the desks, answered reference phone calls, restocked the displays, did supply rounds, wrote up a book recommendation, checked in 6 carts in an hour, then stopped by the home library after work to see Space Cadet and my Trainee.

Was good to have the Space Cadets reunited. I haven't seen her since I worked there. Like, as in the last time we worked together. Which has probably been months, since I was just down to Tuesday and Thursday nights for a while - neither of them with her.

Anyway, I walked in wearing my "Tundra hat" - present from the Cool Aunt that Slim Shady says makes me look like I'm headed for a tundra, i like it - and Space Cadet did the best doubletake ever. It was nice. Walking passed with a cart as I walk in the door, looks over, keeps walking, stops walking and looks again. HI!

We talked ipods, family, cooking, library stuff.

She enjoys that someone bought me a subscription to a cooking magazine, and claims it wasn't her. I still have no idea who did it, but once I do it's on.

I miss my home branch.

It's a completely different atmosphere there. I got to know my coworkers there a lot more than my current work branch ones just because it's slower there so you talk more. Plus they have longer hours.

And I'm getting to know my current ones, they're fantastic as well.

I draw mazes for Slim Shady on my breaks. We go out for movies and food.

Fearless Leader likes my Firefly t-shirts. We talk blogs, books, movies, and dating.

Info-Man and me talk Huskers and recommendations.

John Boy teaches me all about comics, I'm learning people.

Mentor tells me all about the joys of working with teens, and shows me the ropes to talking over teen programs.

The Reference Queen always checks in to make sure I know how to do things, aka processes that I wasn't exactly trained to do but am still doing them because no one else is.

Queen of the Known Universe always makes me laugh, we talk Criminal Minds, Big Bang Theory, and crazy people.

Super Librarian Status always gives me good philosophies for life, such as "it's not possible to drink all the liquor in town, i've tried it."

Big Brother always watches out for creepers staring at me and gives me excuses to leave the desk when one approaches.

Girlscout and I talk derby, food, library everything and somehow she's always hard at work in the staff room whenever I go in there.

Superwoman is always watching out for me, period.

The New Guy and I joke about anything that's going on at the time.

The New Girl seems to always ask me questions about processes instead of other people, I'm flattered.

Cabin Fever who I joke with about writing a book about life experiences entitled "What Was I Thinking: The Hindsight Bias" and told me to tell creepers I talk to snakes so they're scared away.

The Aides and myself always joke around and talk about starting an Aides Union - as I used to be one and now I'm an advocate.

So yes, I do like my new coworkers. But I miss the old ones as well.

Sensei who I talked The Closer, Criminal Minds, NCIS, really any TV show.

Glee-Loving Boss who calls me to tell me that Temperature Tuesdays have started at Runza.

Queen of Awesome who lets me hold Maximus Awesomus, aka the Spawn of Awesome. And goes out for sushi and drinks.

Joe Studley who I can talk to about anything, and who does impressions just to cheer me up.

Space Cadet who's always teasing me about cooking. We talk about my tech-nerd-ness and her no-tech-ness. And occasionally yell out "you want an e-reader!" for no reason.

Trainee who I actually occasionally get to see since she's doing now what I was doing before, except I was an aide at the home branch and an LSA at the work branch. She's that in reverse. We talk sports, life, crazy people, etc.

Yes, I like my coworkers. All of them. That's why it's hard to leave. That's why I don't plan on leaving anytime soon.

I'm actually looking forward to inservice day so I get to jam with everyone at the same time.

What was I talking about before this whole rambling things got started?

Oh right.

Today.

I think we're finally off vacation-mode since we're fully functional.

Or seem to be.

Today was just weird reference-wise, I had this phone call asking for an address and everywhere I looked gave me different information. At first the addresses were different, then the middle initials were different, then the phone numbers were different, then she wanted to talk to someone else cause apparently I wasn't helpful. Though she didn't say that, she just said is there anyone else there. Info-man to the rescue. He told her the same things that I did and she listened to him!! Seriously? Then she called back!

Anyway, aside from that I rocked it. Though technically I rocked that since he just said the same things that I said. Maybe I need to sound more experienced. Or authoritative. Or something. Distinguished.

I'll work on that.

In the meantime,

"Moves Like Jagger" Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera

dig it. my niece - the youngest one, she's like two - sings this. "got the moves like jagger, got the moves like jagger, got the moves like jagger..." i taped it and put it as my ringtone. hilarious.

We'll see if I'll still have moves like Jagger tomorrow.

Here's the Red Green philosophy for the day:
The faster you go the more you miss. As you get older you're gonna realize that we're all pretty much heading for a brick wall. The question is, how hard do you wanna hit it?

Remember, Remember the Fifth of November: Take Five

"I've had marriages shorter than that story." Okay Jack, I'll try to keep it simple.

I've had the pleasure of working at two public libraries for over a year now, add that to my very amusing family, hysterical friends and crazy imagination and you get hours of entertainment.
So, without any further ado you get,

Quotes of the Year:

ps- there were far too many so the other half comes tomorrow.

Things overheard at the library:

Me after hitting button in car and it asked for a command: "What the hell?"
Jarvis my car: "To call hell say dial."
...
Glee-Loving Boss: "Did a creepy guy with a deep voice answer?"

Slim Shady: "They say it's a psychological thriller. I want to know what that means in the context of ballerinas." About Black Swan

Me: "That'll be me in 40 years."

Slim Shady: “No idea.” take a picture in front of the lions

Sam the Man: “Jam hands bring nothing but pain.” joy

Mom: “Is it Apples to Apples or Apples to Oranges?”

Second Sister: “It’s an appropriate amount of freakage.” About my level of sanity after I was told about dad in the hospital. Knew it was serious business when both Oldest and Second Sisters called me at work within five minutes of each other.

Sarah: "Did you swear in text form?"

Me: "Is that like the Splenda of salt?"

Squirt: "You stole my happy!"

Dad: "And! If that fails! We'll put Mom out there with a shotgun!" he was determined to keep the racoons away from the corn.

Mom: "Tell him he's wonderful for staying to work on that so late. Oh, and you're great too."
Me: "Thanks Mom."
thanks mom.

Me about The Closer: "Should we watch last week's?"
Mom: "Sure, I watched it already." *shows starts and literally 30 seconds later she bombards me with questions about what's happening*

Cool Aunt at the College World Series: “Just sitting here, enjoying my hummus.” yeah, they seriously had hummus.

Me: “You’re the Tar to my Heels.”

Come All Together For You

Geez, you show up to work in matching socks and everyone goes crazy.

The last time I dressed up dressed up and I quote:
SLS: You look nice.
Me: Laundry day.
true dat, ran out of clean jeans.

And, to be fair, they haven't seen me there in almost weeks. Not for a full day at least. Tomorrow is another one of those few hours there and few hours at the other one days. But it's anything but boring.

So when I walk through the almost empty library at 3:25 and hear "Hey Hollywood!" I take it in stride. He used to call me "College". Still does when there are computer issues and he needs me to fix something. Even though we have a whole Virtual Services division for that. Again, I take it in stride. I can usually fix the problem anyway.

I was actually productive today. Shocker, I know. Shelved all morning, came home and took a nap - which is sort of productive...when you can't sleep the night before - ate lunch/supper, headed downtown, went back to work, registered for classes, watched NCIS on DVR, and now blogging here so that I can write my paper for class and submit it online before I crash and burn from the long day.

Sophie's Choice was made. Now it's all up to The Powers That Be. At this point I have nothing to lose.

Songs of the Day: Zenned-out zone

"Go On" Jack Johnson

definitely one of my favorite artists

"Boy With The Blues" Oasis

love it.

that's all she wrote...

EDIT:
Quote of the Day:

Second Sister: "U didnt even know it was february? U can at least pretend u knew the month! Goodness sakes we need to see each other more if this is where we stand. That is all there is to it. If i deliver this child on ur bday it will have to be ur favorite. That would be for certain."

now that's all she wrote.

"Don't you ever interrupt me while I'm readin' a book!"

Okay, it's official.

People at the library know me.

And not just any people.

Coworker people.

Because the pranks have begun.

And it's on. Like Donkey Kong.

Today I came in to work and- okay, I love my family. They're terrific. Oldest Sister included. But see, she comes into the library and enjoys embarrassing me, fixing my clothes, making fun of my hair, etc. Which just gives my coworkers ammo.

Like the time when she wanted me to go get a flu shot and I said I'd rather get sick than get the shot.

It's a proven theory. I got H1N1 in college. Oh yeah, I was one of those. And suffered through it gladly because I don't like needles and pass out at the sight or mention of blood.

But she gave me crap, saying she'd go with me and hold my hand. Meanwhile my Glee-Loving Boss just laughed.

Today I check my mailbox and find a flyer for "Flumist Nasal Spray!!"

Guess who put that there.

It's on Mr. Boss Man. Glee-Loving Boss is going down. No idea how I'll get him back. Perhaps I'll ask for a consult. I bet Sensei would have ideas.

Quotes of the Day: yes, they're all library-related. deal.

Space Cadet: "We gotta get rid of that tacky looking junk!"
we worked on weed lists today. which are always fun. until you have to weed a book that you actually read and enjoyed. sad day.

SLS: "I have Super Librarian Status."
Me: "Well, there's a new nickname."

This coming from the supervisor at my first real interview ever, who, when I was working with him right before my 21st birthday said, "Take it from me. You can't drink all the liquor in town. I've tried." I enjoy him, he's quite amusing. And now he'll be known as "Super Librarian Status."

Girlscout: "It's the 7up!"
SLS: "I hate that stuff."

he's not the only one in that place who hates it. last year Space Cadet pawned a case off on me.

Me: "You looked all serious, I thought I was in trouble."
Space Cadet: "I am serious, I gotta get rid of this 7up!"

Me: "You rock Superwoman!"
Superwoman: "I feel sort of rocky at times!"

cause she tells me I work too many hours.

then she recommends music.

check this one out:

"I'm Reading a Book" Julian Smith

i busted out laughing at 2:05 just because of the randomness. that's fantastic.

Here are some recommendations back for you.

Librarians Go Gaga

"don't forget the databases..."

Librarians Will Survive

"alphabetize!"

Dewey Decimal Rap

i especially like it when he breaks down the system saying what's in each area. sad thing is i knew all that.

and just because i think it's fantastic:
Masters of Library Science Croquet Tournament

"passed the sand trap, around the water hazard..." awesomeness.

Originally I was 9-8 tomorrow, now I'm 1-8 instead. Will enjoy sleeping in while it lasts. Should konk out soon if I'm going to enjoy it. Oh, maybe watch some Criminal Minds I've recorded. I attempted to watch Harry's Law but I don't know if I like it as much anymore. There's all these new characters and they work in a new setting and blah. I like that Tommy is around more, but still, they've completely changed the show. However, Harry is still the same, so I'll stick with it.

Music for the night:....other than those clips above...

This Midwest Week is turning more into a Central Time Zone Week but "Midwest Week" sounds better so I'm sticking with it.

Here's your South Dakota and some more Texas.

"The Deadwood Stage" Calamity Jane

love 2:42-3:42.
this was my favorite movie growing up. i blame that on my aunt. this and oklahoma. yes i was a musicals kind of girl. explains a lot.

although in the movie i think this is my favorite:
"I Can Do Without You"

doris day says it's her favorite movie she's ever done. no question why. you should check it out, it's worth it.

"All My Ex's Live In Texas" George Strait

george strait really is the king.

I sang that in the jNonfiction section while shelving once, not realizing that there was a woman there. She smiled so I kept singing.

that's all she wrote...
