Today I was a Ninja of Awesome.

That's right, I rocked it.

Showed up early, worked with some volunteers, put together shelves - though to be fair, BossLady did most of the work.

She enjoys her mallet.

And dropping shelves so the ends fall off.

Though that is highly enjoyable.

But loud.

But highly enjoyable.

After that I put together my TAB minutes, sent them off by email, and talked to 3 of the 4 bosses who will need to approve when I ask them if I can take the kids to see Catching Fire as part of the Catching Fire party.

I think if they pay their own way and find their own transportation to get there it might actually work.

So far I'm 3 for 3.

Though one of the big pushes for it is if I challenge the kids to read the book beforehand so we can discuss the differences between the movie and the book afterward.

Which means I'll have to read it.

I know, I know, I'm horrible. I was the one who read Hunger Games in college before it got big then recommended it to everyone and then got 2 jobs and started school so there was no time for me to read the rest of the series.

The worst part being the people I recommended it to - Slim Shady & Fearless Leader - read it immediately along with the rest of the series.

So it's just me.

No, I don't know who she ends up with - if you tell me I will scream and throw things - and no I have no idea what happens in the next book but I'm assuming it has something to do with the President being pissed off about how that last one ended.

So I should probably read that and soon.

After all that I headed over to the practicum.

Practicum Count-Up 26/90. 

Today we spent actually shelving our libraries.

The nice people from maintenance moved our boxes (and boxes and boxes) of books from the main building to the men's and women's buildings that we're setting up our remote libraries in so today we spent in the women's building going through all the boxes and shelving the items.

I pulled them all out and made piles - fiction and nonfiction - then divided up the fiction into groups - and I blame this on our DVD organization at work, but hey I was the one to pick those so I'm allowed, A-F, G-N, O-Z - while he sorted and shelved the nonfiction.

And because I am a ninja of awesome the fiction fit perfectly.

Like literally, it went to the very end of the shelf with room for no more.

It was like we planned it that way.

See? Proof positive. Ninja of Awesome.

Then we went back to the main library for rootbeer floats - best practicum ever - and made plans for Tuesday. Which is when we'll officially set up the men's library.

After that it'll be staffing the desk and all that.

Should be fun.

He always has uplifting catchphrases for when I leave, "catch a wave" etc. This time it was "Go Big Red!"

Yes, he's a Husker fan as well, which makes it even more enjoyable cause we can talk Husker football.

Which I can't do at work cause clearly no one is as diehard as me.

Though I did skip the awesome game last week because I went to the races with the boyfriend.

Cause I'm such a nice girlfriend like that.

I'm hoping we play against UCLA the same way we played this past weekend. But we shall see. Last year's was not pretty.

After practicum I went shopping and bought birthday presents for my father and sister.

And called and sang horribly, as is tradition.

Tomorrow we're having dinner at the cabin to celebrate. There will be steaks and much rejoicing.

He did turn 70 afterall.

After shopping came back here, did some editing, wrapped the presents and turned on Big Bang Theory.

Have you ever noticed how when you're only scheduled to come in half a day, that the day before that half a day is eternal?

That was today. 

For some reason it felt like I was there much longer than 9 hours. 

Which is confusing because we were quite busy. 

And I had a teen experience meeting. 

And I had 4 volunteers come in at once. 

Actually there were more there at the moment but those are the ones still in training. 

I have two others that were supposed to be there but weren't. 

Interested to see if they will come back. 

Teens. 

Anyway, at least the meeting was fun. 

Well, entertaining, not so much fun from the topics of discussion. 

But that's more of a longer story.

BUT I was able to plug my Catching Fire party and this afternoon Queen of the Known Universe and I had fun picking out her Hunger Games name.

Anyway, I'm excited about the Catching Fire Party. It'll be the Saturday after the movie comes out in theaters. We'll have a costume contest, there will be obstacle courses set up in our "arena", have some Panem-themed snacks, we'll make bows and arrows out of licorice and pretzels sticks (a coworker asked if they would be sugar free licorice sticks to which I smirked. but that's another snackage meeting reference) and we'll have the first movie playing in the background for those that want to watch it.

After the eternity that was today I'm looking forward to the half day that is tomorrow.

Final prep for my TAB meeting on Wednesday and then I have the afternoon off because Mr. Bossman Tom has a meeting so he's letting me work from home.

Huzzah for more practicum count-up hours.

I get to make cool looking rule signs for our libraries.

I'm really getting excited for these ones. We're thinking of manning - sorry, staffing - staffing the desk at the women's library on Tuesdays and then the men's on Thursdays.

That way we'll be able to cover both places, though we're still looking at ways to keep track of stats since we're not barcoding things.

I'm thinking spreadsheet. Or maybe a box of cards they fill out.

But that's another thing I'll research tomorrow after I finish my signs.

Told him I would make a few and he could choose.

No pressure, right?

But more on that tomorrow.

At the moment I'm all about Elementary.

It's bad timing really to be obsessed with this since I have multiple DVDs checked out from the library due next week and they keep piling up.

But this isn't the first time that's happened.

There was Lie to Me, before that it was Leverage, before that it was Chuck, before that it was any of the following: Big Bang Theory, Castle, Charlie's Angels, NCIS, NCIS:LA, Major Crimes, The Voice, Wipeout, Burn Notice

I can't believe that one is ending.

They're slowly cancelling all my favorites. Burn Notice, Warehouse 13, and all of those mentioned above before the word "following".

Love the female Watson twist. And Lucy Liu is one of my favorites anyway. Loved her in Charlie's Angels, Kill Bill, Cashmere Mafia, Dirty Sexy Money, plus she voices one of the characters in my favorite video game of all time - SSX Tricky.

Okay, I know I didn't post yesterday, but yesterday was horrible from start to finish so if I was to post it would be horrible too.

Our internet was down at work.

I got yelled at.

There were training issues.

I lost my datebook and broke open my foot in the process of retrieving it - thankfully a nice man found it and called me.

And the Mad Maxines lost by like 200 points.

Which is backwards because usually we win by 200.

Technically, we were skating against the number 2 team in the world - not the nation, the world - so it wasn't completely unexpected, but we are - well, were - ranked 25th in the world.

So...it was just awful though cause our jammers kept getting so frustrated because the refs weren't calling anything on the other team and they got called constantly for cutting the track. It got to the point where our jammer was in the penalty box for at least 50% of the entire bout.

And by the end they had just given up.

It was awful.

I actually wasn't planning on going until I walked out of the door from work. Then I got there and a lady gave me a free ticket so that sealed the deal.

I actually don't mind going to the derby by myself because I feel like my obsession out-ranges my friends' love for the sport.

So I cheer and I stand up and all that.

And it's nice not having to worry about if they're having fun.

Which they do, but you know what I mean.

It's like Del going to the Mumford & Sons concert by herself, because no one loves Mumford like Del loves Mumford. And she doesn't want anyone to hold back her love for said Mumford.

But she also knits in bars.

Cause she's a badass.

And I owe her big for She & Him.


Anyway, so yesterday was total crapsuck, but today was much better.

Ate my muffin and drank my coffee.

Was pretty busy, but not overly. Still had time to update my TAB website and send out all my reminder emails. Mock up some JPEG's for Superwoman.

So not bad for a Sunday.

Working the weekend means I'm off tomorrow!

I'm meeting with my practicum rep and going over details. 90 hours of that coming up in the fall and no idea what to expect.

Here are some of the precise guidelines that the Library Goddess has for us to follow:

- Make sure you dress in a professional manner and ask about a dress code during the meeting.
- Review the library's website before you go. This will support good questions and discussion during your first meeting.
- Make sure you make your hosts laugh at least 3 times during the meeting!
- Make sure you work hard to be flexible in terms of hours you're available so that you get the most out of your practicum.

Will do my best to make him laugh. And dress professionally. Should probably figure that out tonight while I'm still conscious.

Wear makeup and all that.

Oh yeah, so tonight I went out to see the boyfriend and his word of the night was women.

Not like in a sentence like "women are, you know, whatever it is we are" just women in that tone that only a man can say it in.

You know that one?

And it wasn't my fault!

For the most part.

I mean, it started when we were listening to the radio and the song "Don't Talk About Him, Tina" came on - the Pistol Annies you know?



Yes, I know, I've posted it already, get over it.

To which he replied "women."

And then we're out eating and this employee is out in the parking lot sitting there on a bench for 15 minutes straight brushing her hair.

Just sitting there, middle of the parking lot, not talking to anybody, not on her phone, no one is with her, she's just sitting there brushing her hair.

For 15 minutes straight.

To which he replied "women."

Although that may be what average women do, who knows, maybe I've been doing it wrong all of my life.

And then we're buying fireworks - yes, more fireworks cause I needed more tanks and I got another, "women."

But I told him that since Bubby is gonna be gone it's up to him to take his place in the tank war. So we bought him tanks. And a train. And I got a boat. So it's gonna be tank on tank - and there are different types of tanks involved - and then it'll be train vs. boat.

Should have paid for it with some of those singles in my wallet, but I used my card instead.

Cause people look at you funny when you pay for things in singles.

I have all these singles and not for the normal reason a woman my age would be carrying around a wad of singles, but because our 93-year-old volunteer was in the hospital and everyone chipped in for flowers and since I'm the Volunteer Supervisor I got to be the one to buy the flowers and send them to her.

So, basically, the opposite reason of why a women my age would normally be carrying around a wad of singles.

But this woman is seriously Wonder Woman. We sent her flowers and the next day she was back volunteering.

And very grateful for her flowers.

I don't know anything about sending flowers so I had to have like 5 people look over the arrangement before I committed to it.

Women. 

We're perfectionists like that.


And that's all I got for today.

Tomorrow is that meeting and then cleaning and homework.

And trying to get this smoke smell out of my apartment.

Stupid burnt popcorn.

I keep bringing in more fireworks, my neighbors are probably like, ummm....

And that was 2010, it's only gotten worse now that I'm in charge of stuff.

I had 2 people call me yesterday about volunteer work and another 2 call me today.

Yes, things do pick up in the summer, but not that much.

I have one coming in to train on Tuesday, another on Wednesday and after that I am just out of space.

Cause I already got a new one started last week!

So the suckish part is having to turn people down. Though I usually just direct them to a different branch.

That's the joy about working in a library system.

I know, some of you think that's an oxymoron, but I'm actually excited about this next one.

And it has great timing and placement.

Big teen event put on by the SLJ - School Library Journal, it's a magazine - it's basically a big online thing with a bunch of Young Adult authors. They talk about their books and then there's Q&A with the authors.

Gonna be fun, and guess where our session is being hosted!

Anyway, I'm going to the library that just happens to be in his town and it's an all day thing which means I can go out there the night before and bring my cat with me cause the week after that IS CAMP J!!

She just loves watching my cat while I'm gone.

But he likes the farmhouse.

And he doesn't bite there cause dad will stick him outside with the mean outdoor cats.

Plus he loves his grandma.

She hates it when I call her that.

But then she gives him Christmas presents and signs them "from grandma" so she really brings it on herself.

Today was boring as the library was dead.

Came home and watched the rest of Doc Martin season two.

I'm liking it.

Mostly because it has Ash in it from Murder in Suburbia - Catherine Catz - but also because the doctor is just so rude and oblivious to all that's going on around him, it's highly entertaining.

So I was totally productive today even though I only went in 2 hours.

Finished Silver Linings Playbook - the book - and then watched the movie.

Sad it's over but I can read it again if I have withdrawals.

Now it's on to finishing Warm Bodies.

On disc 2 and then checked out the book as well.

The movie was hysterical, the book is pretty funny but very very different.

So I'm interested to see how it turns out.

So this week is the week for season finales.

Tonight was Castle's, it turned out okay, at least I hope so I guess you never know what she'll say.

And we have to wait until fall, that's just mean.

I'm glad he proposed, I seriously thought they were gonna break up cause all the Twitter and Facebook feeds said to watch it with kleenex's.

2 Broke Girls was amusing as always. Glad they're gonna open up another shop and this time it's attached to the diner. Which is handy. And Nugget Buddies!! I remember those. Hurray for Happy Meal toys.

I love that every episode when Jennifer Coolidge first enters the crowd always goes nuts.

But she is awesome.

NCIS is tomorrow. I'm so far behind, gonna have to catch up online before tomorrow's episode.

Or I'll watch it when I go home this weekend, Mom records them.

Yes, I actually get to go home, two weekends in a row. Saturday we're having a camp meeting and I'm Sunday and then next weekend Sunday and Monday we're closed for Memorial Day.

The hype was so high early on cause she was Michael Jackson's singing partner, but now she's just being outshined by like Amber and Michelle and Sarah. To be fair, Adam has a really strong team to compete with and then Shakira's got Sasha which will be her saving grace. Blake has Holly and Danielle is rocking it, seriously, and then Usher has Michelle. People seem to like VEDO. He's okay. I'm really not a fan of Josiah. He's a pretty face but that's it, kinda like Dev from last year. Nice enough guy but there are better voices in the competition. He's made it this far cause he's good looking and he's friends with Usher.

So Usher saves him.

Kinda like the bromance between Adam and Tony Lucca from second season.

But I've already made that comparison.

Sorry.

Moving on.

Today was good.

Worked for two hours at the desk and then upstairs.

Have a really great GoPo that's gonna finish her hours tomorrow. And I have my TAB thing, we're gonna mockup our library golf holes so we know what we're doing day of.

On the other hand, apparently the person that I've been watching for over my shoulder showed up at work today. Thankfully I wasn't there when it happened but since they didn't get to talk to the person they wanted to talk to, aka my Boss's Boss's Boss - OH YEAH, it's gone that far - I'm guessing they'll be back tomorrow.

And I'm sure I'll be on the desk when they get there.

Great.

But it's okay. BossLady has designated her office as a safe space. Meaning I'll be running there when I see them.

Alright, I'm out for the night. Gonna need the sleep to keep up with my teenagers tomorrow afternoon.

And afterward I had time to complete my entire homework assignment for Internet Reference that's not due until tomorrow night.

BUT tomorrow night I'll be out and celebrating with the boyfriend's family. We're going out to dinner for his dad's birthday.

I'm gonna be partying it up cause literally all I have left to do is login to the website and watch two people present.

Maybe ask them questions if I really feel like it.

For now I'm gonna eat my popsicles and crash.

The American one this time and on TV, not my phone.

Not like every day at lunch.

Cause see, every day I watch that at lunch means it's another day that I don't finish Silver Linings Playbook.

Cause I don't want it to be over!!

And if I do finish them they get tabbed.

And not just one or two, more like 30.

But me not finishing the book is like my not watching the unaired Women's Murder Club pilot.

Cause I've seen the rest so that means I'd seen them all.

And since it got cancelled there won't be more.

Fortunately there are other stubborn fans out there like myself.

Today...hmmm...what can I say about today?

Got lied to by a volunteer, that was fun.

She's nice but there's a cultural gap and I'm having trouble finding things for her to do.

Gonna have to do some collaborating with other people throughout the building to find stuff.

Long story, but I was not a happy camper.

Other than that the day was good.

Off early for the class thing, after that I watched The Voice.

Did The Voice's voting system get hacked?

Is that what that announcement meant?

Or was the screwup on their end?

I'm guessing it got hacked.

But seriously? Just why?

Shelving Adult Non-Fiction and Youth Services now.

She's great, so far perfect minus a book on CD issue yesterday.

I don't know how but we are completely caught up on shelving.

We have some awesome aides and volunteers.

One of my volunteers is 93 years old. Comes in almost every day.

Skipped the Volunteer Recognition Banquet cause it was her day to volunteer.

Gets up on step stools to reach the high shelf, she's fantastic.

Aside the aide training there were a lot of tiny children running all over the place. Multiple grade school tours going through.

Originally I was asked if I wanted to help lead them but tiny children in giant masses freak me out.

I know, it's great that I work in Youth Services, huh?

Camp I can handle cause it's controlled groups in organized sessions and they're all over 3rd grade.

Speaking of camp, getting stoked.

Gonna have to start putting together some skits while I have the time.

But first I should really finish all my homework.

Final project presentation for Diversity is next week, along with my final assignment for Internet Reference.

She's finally letting us use Google.

I know the point of the class is to get us to use a variety of resources, but I can find things so much faster on Google than any of those other sites!!

Drove me nuts cause assignments took 3 times as long. But that's what you do when you work reference, Google, because the people on the phone don't want to wait for you to search a variety of search sites they want a phone number, address, answer to some obscure trivia question, etc. and they want it right away.

Anyway, I'm excited to be able to use Google.

As excited as one can be when they're talking about homework.

But I will soon be done with it eternally so I guess it's okay.

Next week, then I'm free 'til June. After June everything will be about Camp and Summer Reading and then classes pick up again in August and then I'll be done in December!!

I have no idea where this post was headed so I'm going to steer it toward something I do know about and that's The Voice.

You could tell it was Monday.

Lots of tired staff and not a lot of patrons so it was a little slow.

Which is fine cause it gives me time to work on other projects like more Summer Reading and volunteer stuff.

Got one of my adult volunteers started on shelving Youth Services.

She's Russian and used to work in a library in Russia so she picked it up very quickly.

So quickly in fact that I barely had to train her at all. When I went through each category she pointed out where they go and when I started her on shelving she put them in the exact space they're supposed to go.

I'm making her tag them so I can look over them, but still, I'm impressed.

That's really all I can remember about today.

Oh, except for the part where some dude asked if he could take a picture of my Green Lantern t-shirt.

But what do you say to that, really?

I told him he could find pictures of it online or find it at Target.

Guess that's what I get for wearing fun shirts.

He's another one that makes up excuses to come to the desk to talk to me. Last week he rambled about some sort of chemistry meteorology thing, I don't know I can't remember.

Tried to block it from my brain.

But Queen of the Known Universe was laughing.

Dangit, just when my stalker count was lowering out.

Castle tonight was epic. Love the flashbacks. Kind of cheesed up the drama part, but she was standing on a bomb so you had to have some sort of comic relief.

And Bones was alright. For a season finale I was expecting more. I am super depressed for Brennan now though.

2 Broke Girls was humorous.

Yes I spent a lot of tonight on the couch watching TV but I need a night off from homework and stress and all that.

Anyway, they filmed an episode - well, fake filmed - an episode of SVU in the diner and hired Max and Caroline as extras.

That's where the status is from, basically they're pimping themselves out as actresses so they can get money to pay for Chesnutt's shoes - he's a horse.

The Voice was also on tonight and of course I'm saving it for last cause I get all rambly.

Tonight was Night One for Knockouts - Team Adam and Team Shakira, tomorrow will be Team Blake and Team Usher. Each artist picks their own song to sing and their coaches pair them up against each other. So they went from 8 to 4 members each for the live rounds which will start next week!

Big upsets tonight, I lost 2 of my top 5 - Midas Whale (huge shock) and Monique Abbadie.

But the winners deserved it.

Today was crazy.

9-1 with volunteers at the library. We cleaned all the computers and dusted first floor and half of second.

After which I helped out at the desk, and headed out to G-Town for the camp meeting.

This year's theme is "Back to the Scripture" - a play on Back to the Future.

We do a lot of "play on" themes. There was Fear Can Never Factor In, Mission Possible, Extreme Makeover: God's Edition, Survivor In Christ, and last year's Be Transformed. Plus various others.

Stoked for this year.

Gonna have some fun skits to go with the theme.

Though I'll be sticking with the HeeHaw stuff for the older ones.

Gonna have to dig up some more verses.

So nice doing those in the air conditioning.

Definitely makes a difference, plus this year they're giving us a flat rate so we're saving like 1500 bucks.

Double bonus.

And I got the software for the website so gonna have to brush up on my HTML.

I've been put in charge cause I'm the only one of us who knows HTML.

Should be interesting.

Have a feeling I'm gonna go flailing to Boss's Boss's Boss's Assistant, aka my ex-professor who taught it to me last semester.

Aw man, it's storming again.

Carter is not pleased.

Don't think he's a fan of thunderstorms.

Not that I blame him.

It's been super stormy here in Nebraska.

Granted not as severe as other parts of the US, but like every other day there's some sort of weather warning.

Today was up in the 60's which is probably why it's storming out.

Where was I?

Oh yeah, camp.

So yes, went over notes from last year, updated the application forms, added some promotional stuff on Facebook, am excited to do the website, but a bit nervous.

I'm sure I'll ramble more about that later.

We'll meet up again in May to send out forms.

There was a good number of teen helpers there last year, and we actually divided them up into two groups - well, the ones we didn't stick in cabins - but the rest did games one day and then kitchen the next so that they both got to work in the air conditioning at some point.

And we're sticking with that cause it seemed to go over well.

Gonna be short on lifeguards this year, should be interesting. I'm hoping that Megz can make it at least one day. If not we're gonna be royally screwed.

Trying to brainstorm ideas for time fillers if we can't take them tubing.

They love it but we can't go if the water is too high or too low.

We used to do counselor hunts instead, where basically the counselors would hide and their campers would have to find them.

I remember once our counselors wore camo and hid up in the trees.

Like up up in the trees. Took us forever to find them.

Someone once buried themselves in sand.

That couldn't have been comfortable.

Though my favorite was when a certain someone hid on top of the old cafeteria and then fell through the roof.

Don't look at me like that, it wasn't me.

Still funny though.


The new building is too high to climb on.

Sad day.


One year we had them do extra crafts but that was expensive.

Maybe a scavenger hunt would be good, but then we'd have to come up with one involved enough that it would take up a whole afternoon.

It takes like 4 hours for all the tubing festivities cause we leave at 1 and then usually don't get back until like 4 and cleaned up by 5. And then it's time for the younger kids to eat already.

So there's a lot of time to cover.

Ideas?

Anyway, I love our core group and the Music Mentor was able to make it, along with Scuba Steve, Blackstone and Obi-Wan. We had our usual icecream and joked around a bit.

After the meeting I headed out to the farm to jam with the parentals.

Who then ditched me for supper - joking, I left anyway.

But it's going to be their 48th anniversary so they're celebrating.

Didn't realize it had been that long.

Didn't remember my sister was that old.

Don't tell her that, I'd get smacked.

No, she's not old. Cause that would mean 17 years from now I'll be old and that ain't happening.

Actually I feel old now. Especially today after working with all those college kids. But I had Superwoman there to help me wrangle them.

I'm zonked.

The boyfriend is stuck in Sacramento. The train that's supposed to be there like now is delayed cause it derailed. No idea when they'll get out of there. Bummed for him cause they made big plans for tomorrow in Seattle. Hoping it doesn't take too long.

Alright, gonna watch some more Big Bang and crash at some point soon.

Anyway, after my nap and SVU break I did a ton of homework.

Mostly for Diversity in Libraries.

Frustrating as it was.

We're in groups of 4 and we each had to come up with 5 African-American books, which we did last week, but today we had to look them up in these specific library catalogs to see if they own them - I had NY and Springfield - however in my libraries, unlike the others, they catalog the editions separately (which technically you're supposed to do because people look for certain editions of things) so I had to look in like 3 places and add everything together while everyone else had like 1 place and that's it.

Anyway, she didn't say if we were supposed to add up each edition or just do the 1 edition our group member picked or if we were supposed to add in the different formats and all that, just blah.

Whatever, it's done. And I'm content with it.

Now it's back to SVU.

I would do more homework but I'll actually have time to do that during the week since the boyfriend is in Seattle.

Next homework assignment is due on the 20th for Internet Reference, and then like the 9th or 10th of May for the final assignment. In Diversity next week we're discussion boarding - can I use that as a verb? - about this collection assignment and then we present our posters. I did mine on Diversity in Young Adult Programming.

But I have no idea how to present that on Blackboard Collaborate so I'll have to figure that out at some point. But that's the final for Diversity.

And then I'll be done until June when I take Foundations - 1 credit class I can finish in a day - and Library Systems which only lasts through June.

So I'll be free for camp, huzzah!

Speaking of camp, huzzah! We have our first meeting of 2013 tomorrow so I'll be headed out to G-Town after work.

Tomorrow's gonna be interesting because I have volunteers coming in from 9-1, then I'm off and headed to the meeting which is at 2:30, then I'm stopping by the farm because they're burning ground - which I'm sad I can't make it to cause I'm working instead.

Think I mentioned this, my siblings and I own land and are burning it to the ground to start over. We did that when we first got it too. The boys enjoyed smacking the fire with big flopper sticks and riding around it on four wheelers.

And I think there was beer and snacks involved at some point.

Anyway, I'm bummed, but I can't exactly miss work cause they're my volunteers.

Well, they're UNL volunteers, but I'm in charge of them for the morning. They're going to be cleaning the computer lab - cause that gets done never - wiping down tables and chairs on 4th floor - cause that gets done never - dusting the reference shelves - cause that gets done never - and then whatever else my coworkers suggest that also never gets done.

Yeah.

So that'll be an interesting morning, and then I'm pumped for the camp meeting. It'll be the core group most likely aka myself, Obi-Wan, the Music Mentor (i'm hoping anyway), Pastor Blackstone, and Scuba Steve O, and maybe Josh.

One of these things is not like the other, I know.

But Josh actually is a nickname.

I think Obi-Wan and I are the only ones who call him Josh, everyone else calls him Pastor.

But he's not our Pastor so it's allowed.

I just remember showing up at teen camp after Obi and I went grocery shopping and he was there and I was like, "hey josh!" and he was like "FINALLY someone who doesn't call me Pastor!"

I'm stoked for camp already. Application sheets were made and will be approved at the meeting along with the budget, theme, menu and all that. If our Head Chef can make it that is.

Anyway, I should stop talking about camp now because you know if you get me started it's never ending so I'm going to put the computer down and back away slowly...

Okay, super short post for today. Not a lot of highlights, I'm on a roll for volunteers not showing up. Today made 4, but the one in the afternoon made up for it.

Um, looked over the NLA program to see what sections I'll want to go to. Though I don't know how many I'll actually see since I'm in the booth all day with the library goddess. Which should be fun, she's highly amusing.

I'm just not excited to have to leave the apartment at 6AM. But there will be traffic and I think I know where I'm going but I may be way off.

Apparently you can see it from the interstate but we'll see. I told Queen of the Known Universe she'll probably get a 7:58 panic call since I have to be there by 8.

According to mapquest it only takes like 45 minutes but earlier is better in case I get lost and then to find parking. Should have got a room to stay over, I'm not sure how late I'm supposed to say cause there's a lot fun activities going on after the conference.

So yes, this post is super early compared to all of my other ones, but since I have to be up and across town at 7:30 I will most likely be konked out before midnight.

Story of the day:
I'm the volunteer coordinator at my branch and this morning I was supposed to have two volunteers come in for training.

Neither of them showed up so either I'm a crappy coordinator or something else is going on.

Anyway, one of them I don't have the contact info yet cause she took her application home to fill out, and the other called in sick.

But it wasn't just any sick.

She took a friend to the hospital yesterday and came down with something immediately following.

Which didn't sound too drastic except she followed it with, "and there was this lady there with a flesh-eating virus and she had to be quarantined..."

That's when I went, "STAY HOME!" then told her to come in next week and we'd go from there.

Queen of the Known Universe and I have adopted the saying, "at least it's not a flesh-eating virus" which is humorous and not all at the same time.

So that was at like 10:15, which is basically the start of the day - minus opening - but you know how something totally bizarre like that happens in the morning and then the rest of your day just seems like a weirdass day?

Like it's all just weird from there on in?

Maybe it was just a state of mind thing, but then we had a dude konked out on the ground they had to call 911 for, delivery came like 3 hours late, Christmas Wrapping stuck in my head all day, jammed out with The Library Judge to Gangnam Style after closing, etc.

It just seemed weird.

Now I'm home and that feels weird too.

And posting this early isn't helping things. I feel like the clock should say 1:30 AM and Carter should be konked out next to me taking up half the couch.

As it is I haven't even had supper yet.

Which, actually, isn't all that weird cause half the time I don't eat anything 'til after 10 anyway.

In an attempt to escape to normalness, because yes rambling about The Voice has become the norm when it is on, and 'tis the season - but I'll try to keep it short.

Yesterday I gave you my top 20 cause 10 just seemed mean with the increase of participants. And when I said I had to majorly cut it down to 20, I meant it. I have a lot of honorable mentions -

and Domo's audition was hysterical, though that was mostly because of Cee-Lo. and her family. that family got some moves....

I'm all in for this season cause after it X-tina and Cee-Lo are taking a break to go on tour and do album stuff so Shakira and Usher will be taking over for a season. And as much as I like their music I don't really know much about them outside that.

And it's not like everything was different today, Shirtless Neighbor still hasn't donned a shirt even though summer is officially over.

Last year I carved an awesome one with my initials with Bubby and Squirt.

There was wine involved, though none for them. Just me and Oldest Sister. Who took plenty of pictures that are now on Facebook.

But now I need to continue my artistry - of which I have no skills - and kill another one.

I saw this sweet Captain America thing at Target that you can buy his head and arms and legs and like stick them in the pumpkin so you have an Avenger pumpkin.

Alright, as it is already like 8:30 and I think I started this at like 7:30 I should probably post and move on to some homework stuff.

And I think after I'm taking Oldest Sister out for her birthday cause I have yet to do that.

I should probably wake up at a semi-decent hour so I can get started on some homework, but I guess that depends on when my internal clock wakes me up.

Cause sometimes I'll sleep 'til way late and get up, eat something fast and go to work.

But then there's times when I'm up at like 9 and can't go back to sleep.

Which is suck-ish, cause I rather enjoy sleeping in.

Oh well, I'll post some homework and then be done with it.

The only real assignments this week are discussion board stuff and a health resource analysis thing for the Library Goddess. We have to find a authentic website, print resource and community resource that someone can use for health information.

But the fun part is that we get to pick the patron and like give them qualities like mine will be a 24-year-old chick getting her Master's but she's suddenly diagnosed with like restless leg syndrome or something that sounds ridiculous but I'm sure is a serious problem.

It's just the commercials that are ridiculous.

Perhaps it's the writer in me, or just cause I'm a nerd, but I rather like assignments like these.

So that's the plan for tomorrow.

Not much to say about today other than the usual - it was dead cause it's a Sunday but then it picked up while he was at lunch and I was by myself - which is the norm as anyone who works/has worked there can tell you.

I have two volunteers that are supposed to start at the work branch tomorrow but I won't be there.

I trained them, but we'll see how much they remember.

I left detailed instructions, took up the whole board, and sent out an email to the staff to watch out for them. I'm sure they'll be fine.

Alright, in order to enjoy the sleeping in process I first have to fall asleep so I'm off. I'm sure I'll have plenty to talk about tomorrow. That usually happens when I do something with my family, we're full of characters.

Another night spent with the boyfriend means I'm cramming for homework but I don't care, he's worth it, and I'll get it done. It's not due 'til Friday and I've got tomorrow night and I mean all night since the only thing I have on Friday is a dentist appointment at 11AM.

And of course I haven't been flossing even though I should have been but I'm lazy and I don't like to floss.

It's just weird.

And I'm building a website - I'll turn on my inner nerd and get it done.

I'm an information professional, I got this.

I said proudly yet knowing I'll be flailing - much like today.

Okay, so I'm the volunteer coordinator at our branch and as of last week I had like 7 volunteers total.

I got 2 applications earlier this week, then this morning I had 3 patrons in a row come up and talk to me about it. So that makes what like 12?

Head math on the fly.

So I was like, okay, I'll find stuff for them to do.

Then I get back from lunch and they hand me 2 more applications that came in while I was gone.

For an hour, I was gone for an hour and 2 more came in.

AND THEN!!!

I'm up on second floor when I get a phone call from yet another chick asking about volunteer hours and I'm like AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I don't have enough stuff for all these people to do.

My regulars shelve.

That's good, I love that they can shelve and they're self-sufficient.

The thing about new people is that there's a whole training process and you have to have time to train them and then things for them to do.

I do not have that much stuff so I had to reject the 2 that came in over lunch and the 1 on the phone this afternoon because seriously? 5 in one week?

When I had 7 total?

What's in the water around here, seriously?

Anyway, they all seem competent enough that I won't have to worry about them, but finding things for them to do is kind of a challenge. Because my regulars are so good at what they do they don't really need backups. So I'm basically flailing for ideas. Some of which I've gotten from coworkers throughout the day, which I'm grateful for. Others of which I picked up from literally walking all over the building with a piece of paper and a pencil just writing down any possibility.

There's a lot of cleaning-related stuff that needs to be done.

Which is good, and some inputting data stuff, with some sorting of periodicals, aaaannnndddd now I'm blanking.

But I have a list.

Which is my lifeline.

Which is actually true for a lot of lists as of lately.

Anyway, 2 of them new 3 are coming in to train tomorrow, so list in hand I'll hopefully be able to get through it.

This is of course after our morning staff meeting to which I'm bringing my kickin' iPad cause it's all about ebooks.

Well, a portion of the meeting will be about ebooks, I'm hoping the rest would be as severely depressing as our last staff meeting.

But that's in the past.

I think we're good now.

And if not I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Anyway, where was I going with this again?

Oh right, flail-age.

Right now I'm going to post this and then work on that website until I fall asleep.

Then tomorrow I'll have work and then come home immediately to finish the thing and get it posted by 10AM Friday morning.

Maybe if I'm up super late I can post-pone the dentist appointment even longer.

I just have a bad track record with dentists. I pass out in their offices and wake up in their arms, they mistake me for my brother's wife which is super awkward, I get high on nitrous just so they can fill 4 cavities, etc.

I'm not looking forward to yet another appointment.

But whatever, post this, website next, sleep eventually, then work, then more website and discussion boards, then hopefully sleep at a reasonable hour though I'm guessing not, then the poking and prodding of sterilized equipment and finally after that is an afternoon off.

On which I will probably make up for all the missed sleep.

But, the faster I get started now, the more I'll get done - or so I say - so moving on.

Walked into the professors office and went, "Whoa. I interviewed here."

Day like any other, woke up, went to work, updated the website, checked in a bunch of stuff cause there was no delivery yesterday. I'm starting to realize we took our old delivery guy for granted. Uh, what else? Oh did some major supplies stuff cause apparently I was way behind on that. Copied some application forms, used the guillotine chopper thing, then checked in even more stuff.

It was funny because - okay we have like a daily schedule and we have specific places to be each hour - and today it was like 2nd floor, PS2, circ workroom, Lab desk, then lunch, then I had like circ workroom, holds, off desk, and then ended at Youth Services so my afternoon was like on my own time. It was fantastic. I checked in a bunch of stuff but there were like 4 other people scheduled to be back there in the afternoon so most of my time was spent on supplies and volunteer stuff.

Trying to come up with a list of stuff to do for volunteers who can't shelve. I have a lady coming in on Tuesday and the only things I can think of that she might be interested in is cleaning displays and maybe edging shelves. Cause she'll be a long term adult volunteer and I'm guessing things like sharpening pencils and sorting colored strips will be of little interest to her.

Ideas?

So after work I headed over to one of our other branches because my professor is the branch manager there. I walk in her office and go whoa. Flashbacks. Cause that's where I interviewed to make the temp job permanent. The first interview I did, well that was with Queen of the Known Universe and Super Librarian Status in the basement of the work branch. Immediately following that was with my Glee-Loving Boss and Girlscout at the home branch. Third came with Superwoman in her office and that was for the 20 hour summer temp job. Then the library judge - as he now goes by - took some time off so I stayed 'til October and that's when they decided they needed two more people - one at the work branch and one at the branch I went to tonight - so they panel interviewed me basically in that office and I got the work branch job.

Which was my preference.

Then they panel interviewed me again - same people, different office this time it was back to Superwoman's - to make the 20 hours permanent turn into 40 hours permanent.

Anyway, I was like, "i interviewed in this office" and she was totally lost cause I don't currently work there.

She rocks. For serious.

Like, we were supposed to have class on Saturday but I couldn't make it, which was okay because originally there was no class scheduled that day and when they added a different one they said we could meet with her to make up for it if we couldn't make it. Since I had the wedding I chose to go to that and just meet with her later. The class on Saturday was supposed to go 8:30-2:30. I got off work at 6:05 tonight, got there at about 6:20, I think we were done by 7:40.

But it's all html stuff. Actually it's pretty cool, by the end of the assignment I'll be able to type this entire thing on html instead of switching back and forth between that and composition mode. Would make my life a bit easier, but I'll have to learn all the codes. Or learn to copy and paste them from the tutorial websites they gave us links to.

I remember we built our own websites in high school, but that was like sophomore year Computer Applications with Tutor Bode like 5 years ago. I remember something about typing in specific numbers for colored texts and backgrounds but for the life of me I don't remember what they were. I do remember building a sweet house with an awesome colorful dance floor, plus some flyers for a party with my fellow PEUBH Juwanna.

Cause we were the Popular Evil Ugly Bitchy Hags.

Don't ask.

It's a roommate thing.

We had a lot of those.

Alright, I'm aware that this post was a complete and utter waste of your time and I'm totally boring and about to get more boring cause the second I log off here I'm back to homework.

Though I'm still blaming her for the months I tied everything to Shackleton.

And still do on occasion.

But you've made up for it because I've literally copy/pasted all of my own reference work - which is allowed because I wrote it and I researched it and I created the charts - basically took the demographics powerpoint and turned it into a community analysis paper that's 11 pages - and I was worried about 7, geez. Now all that's left is to input article quotations and specific library statistics that I'll ask one of my bosses for tomorrow. Actually I already emailed her, hopefully she'll know what I'm talking about.

So that was handy as I only really had to create like 2 more graphics and then used all the info from the presentation and turned the speech I was going to give into the actual paper including why it's important to keep these specific demographics in mind when considering the collection and library budget and programs, etc.

Anyway, as it is now 11:45 I am going to finish the rest tomorrow. Hopefully it won't take too long before I can submit it and then be done with it.

Then I'll be good until next week and won't have to freak about leaving the reception early to go home and do homework.

Cause that kind of kills the fun.

Called my dad today cause his birthday was yesterday - which I remembered yesterday but got swamped with homework so I called today instead - after that I called Oldest Sister as today was her birthday.

Invited me to some makeup party thing.

To which I clearly said no, cause that's really not my thing and I also have a huge assignment that I'm working on.

Then she came back with home makeup is healthy cause it blocks out the sun and as our immediate family is plagued with skin cancer apparently I should now start wearing makeup so that I will not get it on my face.

Speaking of devious, I set up an appointment with the dentist. Yes, they finally called my cellphone instead of the work phone.

They want me to go there sometime in September. Does it make me a bad person that I scheduled it for the end of the month so that I have time to start flossing like I should have started 6 months ago?

It takes forever!

And it's awkward and weird and I just forget about it in the first place.

Whatever, I'll start eventually. I got time.

I need to stop drinking so much pop.

Today I went with diet coke, does that count?

Isn't there less sugar in that?

So yes, work, then homework, got to show a volunteer the IT department today. He volunteered for 4 hours  and helped answer computer questions. I felt bad cause it was super quiet when he was there. Oh well, he's done. As are all three of my GoPo volunteers to all I have left are the regulars and they know what they're doing. Woohoo!

Aside from that it was all homework.

And I should crash cause tomorrow will probably be yet another late night.

A Nightmare on Elm Street aka Sketch Uses the Code

There are no words for today.

I'll throw some out anyway.

Met up with the Library Goddess for coffee at 7AM.

Actually I got there at like 6:55 and the doors were still locked so I leaned against the building for a while.

Then, (after they opened) thinking I could get away with it, I went immediately to the counter to get my coffee, I put in the order, I reached for my wallet and suddenly "Hey, put that away!"

The woman won't let me pay for coffee. So close yet so far, I thought I could beat her to it.

Instead I get a "hold this!" as she holds out a bag for me to grab. "what is it?" "your ipad." "my what?"

So apparently waking up to meet her before I'm completely conscious is worth it. I get coffee and an ipad.

And a list of stuff to do with said-ipad, but still, it's an ipad.

That's mine until May cause that's when the assistantship ends.

We met up super early this morning since I had to be at work by 8:30 but then our meeting really only took like half an hour so I ended up going to work at like 7:35 - pretty sure I freaked out Boss's Boss's Boss. I was all set up in youth services with the ipad, my laptop and then all my contact stuff I was updating when she walked in and paused when she saw me. We talked grad school for a while then she left. And was followed by multiple members of administration - I didn't realize they got there so early. No wonder they're all gone by 5.

Anyway, so I had to get there at 8:30 along with the BossLady and Slim Shady because we had a group of college kids who were there to volunteer. We basically cleaned the library top to bottom. Started with all the computers on the first and second floors, cleaned all the tables and chairs, dusted shelves, cleaned the books on CD area which is always gross, organized youth services, even washed each individual chair upstairs on the fourth floor. And there are like at least a hundred. They had them all sat out in a row and worked together to wash, dry, and stack. It was amusing but effective.

They were actually really great kids, I was impressed and super grateful for their help without any complaints. That part was my favorite, we got them started and that was their focus. And they asked to come back again next year so apparently I didn't scare them off completely.

So, after cleaning with them I attempted to finish all that TAB stuff I was attempting to do yesterday and yet again was interrupted by all sorts of flukes. Running out of printer paper with no backup in sight - because I've had no time to do supplies at all - and then my personal favorite was when a guy came to place an ILL request, from our side it said he was disavowed though he didn't have any fines and then on our ILL staff side in the basement it said his account was fine.

No idea what was going on, something to do with a second card but he said he'd never had another card then remember he had one once that was all worn out but by this time the Interlibrary Loan Goddess was already on the case and get it fixed. Felt bad for the dude cause I had no idea what was going on. But he seemed pretty cool and very patient, so again, grateful.

So, busy morning, flukish afternoon which led to an even more busy day cause those both happened at the same time and there were literally like 10 people in line and it was just the three of us. Awkward.

Oh well, we made it unscathed.

After work the boyfriend came up and we went to see "Possession" it intrigues me that Kyra Sedgwick would rather have her family torn apart by a demon than take down bad guys with LAPD's finest.


Just saying.

Scale of Awesome puts it at around 5/10. It was interesting....kinda cheesy, though the majority of it did scare the hell out of me so I was tempted to make the boyfriend check my apartment, though I don't think you can really see demons so it wouldn't do any good. Besides he had to head out cause he had to work tonight at 11.

And asking would just make me sound weak and pathetic.

Though I'm pretty sure he knew that already since I was like grabbing his arm every other minute during the loud and scary scenes.

So, big huge extravaganza of a day, hoping things will be much more boring tomorrow since I have to redo all my TAB stuff, plus stock supplies, plus cleanup all the cleaning supplies from today, plus finish up the assignments from the Library Goddess and then the last question left on my homework quiz.

Boring.

Yay.
