Liquid Onions and Rally Ranchers

Ah, the College World Series.

My third year of attendance, but this was the first year my team lost.

LSU dominated, Vanderbilt rocked it, Stony Brook...got hosed.

But they did it in style.

When Nebraska doesn't make it - which is always - Omaha tends to adopt the underdog so it was a sea of red, but not for the usual reason. The stands were selling out of Stony Brook stuff, I guess when they heard about that the coaches were handing some shirts out yesterday to spread the love.

Was an excellent adventure of a day. Worked 9-11, answered some grammar questions in reference, then came back, changed, grabbed camera and went over to the Cool Aunt's house where we immediately left, picked up my cousin, and headed to Omaha. Got some rock star parking, they wanted to charge 30 bucks to park in a lot but the Cool Aunt found a spot for $1.50 worth of quarters.

Hit up a shop then headed for the food tent, we got wristbands for free hamburgers/hotdogs, and other various barbecue stuff. You know how they put ketchup into those little packets and mustard and that stuff? Well, apparently now they put chopped onions in them as well. Handy, but bizarre. They were all liquid-y and weird.

Couldn't taste them anyway so I guess it didn't matter.

Amongst the many fixings was also jolly ranchers. We loaded up on those, ate them during the game after labeling them "Rally Ranchers" though no rally seemed to start because of them. It was attempted but after UCLA took a 4-0 lead in the first inning it wasn't looking pretty.

Anyway, after the food we stopped by some tents to get some fan gear then headed in.

The seats were fantastic, 3rd base line, felt like we were on the field.

We even got on camera in our awesome Stony Brook shirts. Was humorous cause I get this text from SMO asking if I was at the CWS wearing a Stony Brook shirt.

Yes.

Yeah, Cool Aunt and I made ESPN, lovely. I DVR'd it. Should take a picture, still frame.

Anyway, the thing about sitting on third base line is that you constantly need to pay attention or you will get hit in the head with a foul ball. But you know, that only happened like twice, most of them were at least 20 feet away. Every time one headed our direction I yelled out our usual "Blatt!" word of warning, then Kyle would yell "Bounce" so it would land and bounce toward him. He caught one last year, was pretty cool.

Go here: Still Call it Rosenblatt

One dude hit like 6 foul balls in a row. Is there a maximum on that?

Final 9-1 UCLA, gotta set my DVR so I can tape the rest of them. Working all the time kind of takes away the time I usually watch them.

Anyway, took a lot of pictures, observed right field and left field fans argue about who sucks, got on TV - ESPN even so I'll add/cross that one on/off the bucket list.

Really need to start one of those.

Maybe tomorrow.

Gotta sleep now.

Early class tomorrow and coffee can only go so far.

OUT!

"Our House" Madness

all ended up singing this by the end of the day after we heard it whilest using the restrooms after the game.

interesting video.

Hush up, Goofy Grape.

It's official.

Two years of employment with the same system.

Go me.

A lot of memories have been made these past couple years. Fearless Leader and her musical phobia, Queen of the Known Universe bailing me out of a stalker situation, then me having to bail her out three minutes later from the same stalker, our Star Wars vs. Star Trek debates, Girlscout and me helping kids fish for bookmarks out of a plastic pool, making some booze cakes with Slim Shady and Fearless Leader... I could go on but I'll spare you.

Today was pretty fantastic, though I'm comparing it to yesterday and really, with that comparison, everything could be fantastic.

YesterDay. Not YesterNight. Loved spending time with the boyfriend. He fixes everything.

So I'm watching Mike and Molly Season One from the library. Shocking that I don't actually own it, it's fantastic and I'm constantly quoting Victoria.

"wake me up so i don't miss the big floating bullwinkle."
"she asks me that twelve times a year, i don't think it has anything to do with thanksgiving."

May have to go out and buy it later this week.

"hey i called an egg salad audible before any of that happened. somebody mentions pie and the whole exit strategy goes out the window!"

Got the whole day off tomorrow, sleepin' in, catching a movie with Oldest Sister and Squirt, then hitting up a baseball game at night. With fireworks as it's opening night.

"when in doubt, say it with cattle."

Totally stoked for the College World Series. Cool Aunt and I are going to opening game again. Wonder who's gonna play. Last year it was NC vs. Vanderbilt. We were all for the "black and gold". Was super cool for SC to win the last game in Rosenblatt and the first game in the new stadium.

Which I still call Rosenblatt.

Cause TD-Ameritrade is just dumb for a baseball stadium.

Music for the night:

"Jar of Hearts" Christina Perri

Victoria on Halloween
Katy Mixon is fantastic as Victoria the stoner sister. Totally my favorite character of the bunch.

I'm taking tomorrow off of Word of the Day. It's my lazy day. Wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Huzzah!

Out for the night. Don't call me before noon.

"so yes, i do believe in bigfoot. and yes, i think he's a total jerk."

You say that I've changed, well maybe I did. But even if I changed, what's wrong with it?

Third Eye Blind is wicked sweet. Scroll down for a super cool video.

So, I'm watching the Closer cause the game was totally depressing. I was hoping that Cal could pull it off and de-throne Virginia but nope. Now they're going home. Sad day. Oh well, Vanderbilt's still in it. Still wearing my kick-butt bracelet. They're gonna pull it off. Tomorrow afternoon is the big game against Florida - and I'll actually be around to watch it, huzzah! then Tomorrow night it's Virginia vs South Carolina. And I guess I should go for South Carolina since I kind of went for them last year. Until I picked UCLA. and then they beat UCLA. Whatever, go Vandy! I'm all about the "Black! Gold!"

Early morning today. Went to a Food Bank breakfast kickoff thing, as I'm co-chair for that this year. Duuude, I was not expecting there to be that many people there. This thing is like huge. And nerve-wracking. I'm just glad I got Fearless Leader on my side. She's got a plan. I just drive the truck. Which was like huge - thanks to the kickbutt bro-in-law OH! and I was totally up before my sister. Which never happens. So I gotta put that in here cause it won't happen again. Anyway, driving this big truck and then when I get back in my car I was like I felt like...you know when you switch cars and everything just feels different? Like you have to press the breaks harder on the truck than you do in my car. Which I didn't realize until I was back in my car, then I felt like I was slamming on the breaks even when I just tapped them. But I'm good now. Life is back to normal. Or as normal as my life has been as of late.
Where was I going with all this? Oh right, so we hit up the breakfast, got our posters and barrels, delivered them all - forgetting that the libraries don't open until 10 so we hung around outside one of the branches for a while, haha.
Now we're working on marketing stuff aka where to put barrels, how to advertise for them (posters, maybe a promo on the website) and then putting together a competition between staff at the branches. I'll keep you posted as progress happens on that one. Should be interesting.

Songs tonight:

"Never Let You Go" Third Eye Blind

love the live version - one of their kids is playing with them, too cute.

"Sixteen Military Wives" The Decemberists

funny video.

Tomorrow's halfday, huzzah! Thinking of writing a little more then crashing.

Black! Gold! Black! Gold!

Okay, so the thing about filling out forms is that if you want your child's name to be spelled right on their return letter/nametag, you should probably work on your handwriting so that it's legible on an official form. Cause really. Some of these are questionable. And I know the names of most of the kids so usually I'm able to figure it out, but this year there's some new kids - which is great - but I have no idea what some of their names are. Cause the handwriting is worse than mine.
I have a major need for counselors. As of now I have 3. Total. And the deadline isn't until the 1st of July so there's time but still... I actually get applications up until the day of camp itself so it'll be fine. I still would rather have more now.

So I'm all for Vanderbilt. They're currently beating North Carolina 5-1. My final prediction was Vandy 6-5. And this is the bottom of the 8th so there's still time. But Cal, with their true cinderella story, is quickly becoming my number two. Kept alive by donations and then making it to the CWS, that's impressive. I dunno what'll happen if they make the final two.
This game is pretty much a rematch of what we saw when we were there. Only this time the loser goes home instead of just to the loser's bracket. And it's funny because I can recognize the cheers that are going on back and forth between the fans. There's a lot of "Tar! Heels! Tar! Heels!" and "Black! Gold! Black! Gold!" (which is super amusing to text back and forth with the cool aunt btw) but there's also the general admission section specialty of "Tar Heels Suck!" which was rather amusing, even though it's insulting. When we were there it was a dude standing on his chair counting to three and then they'd all yell it. Usually right when a NC player went up to bat, or right after a big "Tar! Heels! Tar! Heels!" cheer.

Quote of the day:
Straight from Superwoman: "(insert my name) takes precedence since she has more points than you."
I had to talk to her about food drive stuff but she was already talking to a coworker that's way up in the chain of command compared to me. I felt special. For like a second, then she said she wouldn't say that again.

Song of the night:

Adele "Rolling in the Deep"

awesome voice in an awesome video.

Out early, gonna be a super long today tomorrow. Food Drive stuff in the morning then work all afternoon. I hate early mornings. gonna have to stop for coffee.
I tried to get in touch with city people all day to request a van - we're going to be driving to almost all the branches to drop off barrels for food donations - but everyone I called was either on vacation or not answering. So I called my sister and brother in law. They pretty much rock. And I'm gonna borrow their truck. Huzzah!

More on that tomorrow.

OUT!

ps - watching the Closer season six dvd, fantastic. love every scene with them in the new building and all the frustration that goes along with it.

Return of the Writer-Monkey

Castle-ism... It was either that or "Frog and Toad are Friends". yeah, no reason behind that one other than I saw it on the shelf today. At least this title is relevant.
Writer monkey has returned with a vengeance. New ideas for old stories and I'm breakin' 'em out. I guess that's what happens when I'm shelving and get ideas...now that I have free time! Or I do for the rest of the week. Monday is camp central and after that all my free time will be gone. So, I'm enjoying it while it's here. Watching CSI and the CWS - picked up The Closer season six from Target as it came out today. Lovin' life. It's awesome. Next week that may change.

For some weird reason getting inspired to write apparently doesn't tranfer to here. Cause I have no idea what to write about tonight. Split shift - between I got my license updated, yay dmv?, hit up target for groceries, laid around with my big fat cat, then went back to work. And my phone is all wonky. Those are my highlights.

Gonna write/watch CWS 'til I konk out. Totally sad Vandy lost this morning. But both Texas teams are headed home. When we were leaving it seemed to be drunken Texas fan central. And though some of my best ex's are actually from Texas I still will never root for them. Texas that is. A&M is okay on occasion. Except when they're beating us even though we should have smoked them. Guess we don't have to worry about that so much anymore with the change in conference. Go Huskers!

One for tonight:

"Killing Me Softly" the Fugees

definitely in my top 10 favorite songs of all time.

And because I find these amusing:

Yeah... still gonna call it Rosenblatt. + 0-6, 0-6, 0-0-0-6!

Yesterday. OMG. Woke up 6:50 AM went to bed 1:30 AM.

Started off completely awesome, had my iced coffee and even though it was raining the weather turned out perfect. The breeze kept us cool and the clouds covered up the sun. Plus Cool Aunt got us awesome seats! George W! Bush threw out the first pitch for the new stadium. That's right, opening game of the college world series in the new stadium! Vanderbilt vs. North Carolina, we went for Vandy since they're the underdogs. I think I'm going to pick them as winner overall. Or at least cheer for them. Virginia will be fun to watch as well and I'm looking forward to watching A&M tonight to see if they're any good.

But we went early enough to enjoy breakfast, hit up all the giftshops, find out seats, explore the new stadium - even got a commemorative coin which is super cool. After the game/more shopping we headed back here. I took a shower, and Smo and I hit up our 5 year class reunion for some high school fun. Soo much fun. Pizza and beverages galore.

Lots and lots of quotes from yesterday. I'll divide them up.

GAMEDAY:
Cool Aunt: I like pasty eggs.

this was at breakfast, we went to a brewery and enjoyed mimosas... yes it was only 9AM but it's never to early to drink when you're celebrating.

Cool Aunt: Just sitting here, enjoying my hummus.
yeah, K caught a foul ball before the game even started. it was coming straight for us and I yelled ball! it bounced and he caught it. it was awesome. but Cool Aunt was not paying attention at all as she was enjoying her hummus on pita. yes, they have hummus on pita at the college world series. they also have an entire booth dedicated to gluten-free food, i was impressed. anyway, we decided then that we needed a codeword for when a foul ball was headed straight for us. after a few suggestions we went with Rosenblatt! or...
Us: BLATT!!
for short. we yelled it many times.

Cool Aunt: This snow cone is very enjoyable.
she was really diggin' it.

Crowd: "BLACK!" "GOLD!" "BLACK!" "GOLD!"
cheering for vandy. we decided we could yell out other colors with them and they wouldn't notice. RED! BLUE! GREEN! WHITE! but we all went for Vandy so we were glad they won.

Me: You're the tar to my heels.
that's all i could come up with for the tar heels. cause really, what kind of a mascot is tar heels? commodores? totally cooler. i'm going Vandy all the way!

then there was a reference question:
Where in the Sam Hill did the phrase "What in the Sam Hill" originate?
wikipedia lists many theories. i want the truth!

Overheard at the class reunion:
Smo: I could have taken off my clothes and no one would have noticed!

that's more of a long story. gotta love a small town with no traffic.

Smo: You're younguns! I own this song!
smo to her kids about baby got back.

Smo: Show me your T-Magic!
taylor martinez was at the bar we went to and she debated running after him.

Em: You cook when you get married. They forgot to tell me that.
em's response to me asking how married life was. so funny to have a reunion and half our class is married or engaged.

Juwanna: That's why I don't know anything about babies, I ran after you!
okay, so basically, i'm the queesiest person on the planet. if i even hear you talk about blood i run to the bathroom, pass out, hit my head on the sink and wake up in the dorm mom's apartment. proven fact. so, when our teacher decided to show us a video on birthing during Life Skills class, I ran to the bathroom, and though most people are just used to it, my roommate decided to run after me to see if I was okay. now she blames me for her lack of birthing knowledge.

Morning after was all Smo:
-Where's my toe nail?... Well, it's better than where's my pants.
-I have frogs in my purse.
-Why is your car hood up?

Work today was good, and flew by, but I'm thinking I'm going to nap/watch CWS for the rest of the day so I can be back to 100% tomorrow. Even though I'm done with grad school and don't have to spend every other minute reading I still gotta get going on camp stuff. So today I sleep, the rest of the week is going to be skits, schedules, volunteers, assignments, and more skits.

Songs for this weekend are from the game:

"Boogie Shoes" KC and the Sunshine Band

totally jammin.

"Sweet Caroline" Glee version, go Puck!

love it. they also did some sort of glee at the white house thing so here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YputDVO0ywY&NR=1 you can see michelle obama dancing to it with the girls. awesome.

Alright, out for the weekend. Gonna watch the game and take lots of naps.

Buy the Boy a Blender.

keeping this short as cool aunt will be here in 8 hours and I should sleep. she promises coffee, huzzah!

Quotes of the day:

Wordsmith: When do I get a blender?
W's Mom: When you get married.
Wordsmith: How do you expect me to get a woman if I can't blend a margarita?

best line ever. and so true.

Me: There's nothing subtle about a horse.
cause really there isn't.

Today:
Spent over an hour packing up 16 boxes worth of donations. I was totally exhausted all day. Because that was just the morning. After work was baseball, Saltdogs game with Wordsmith = awesome. totally fun, had my margarita and my funnel cake. excellent.
Currently watching I Am Number Four as I crash but I turned on the for hearing impaired thing and it's this dude narrating everything that's happening. totally awesome. "Now, at the farmhouse..." awesome.

Songs of the night: Theme: RAIN! weather as of late. it's lightning even now. it better quick this tomorrow. at least from 9-5. it can rain after that.

"Rain" The Wreckers

if you were to ask me who my favorite band is i would probably answer The Wreckers. Michelle Branch teamed up with Jessica Harp is just plain awesome.

"Umbrella/Singin' in the Rain" Glee Cast

love their mashups. and i was totally not a fan of this song originally, umbrella i mean. but they make it bearable. plus hearing all about the behind-the-scenes stuff about dancing with those umbrellas, that would be madness.

Tomorrow means College World Series and I'm totally stoked. We're leaving super early because we're all about the experience, walking around and seeing all the booths and stuff. Buying souvenirs. Plus we can find parking.

out!

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Mambo #5.

Today's Highlights:
- Beat the first section of Angry Birds - Poached Eggs - and opened the rest of the levels aka Mighty Hoax, Danger Above, The Big Setup and Ham 'Em High. Totally stoked.
- Talked about Wicked with Superwoman, we were quoting it up. "Not everyone can come and go by bubble!"
- Actually heard Wordie trying to get my attention this time so now he can't make fun of me being completely unaware of my surroundings when my headphones are in.
- Came home to a clean apartment. Enough said.
- Mom showed up at the library - no cookies this time, sad day - to bring me apples and Saltdogs tickets from Oldest Sister. The tickets were from O.S. not the apples. I hooked her up with some audio books, she was excited.
- Got my scores back from my booktalk and totally rocked it! First up Rock the Booktalk, Next stop World Domination! *insert evil laugh here* 40/40, not bad for putting it together the night before while typing on here and trying to stay awake. But that's when all my inspiration strikes, for some odd reason. Like last night I was up writing until 2.
That's how camp works actually. I can plan all I want all summer long for skits and stuff, like ohh, this one would be cool. But I don't get my final numbers for the kids until like the day before. And even then things are up in the air. I use that as an excuse for procrastination and usually end up writing my skits at about 3AM Thursday night. Camp starts on Friday. But the skits usually turn out to rock the house. Killer Eggs was a big hit, I think I wrote that one about 3AM with my awesome bandmate Delayed...Reaction co-star. (check the videos to the right). The Charles Nelson Reilly to my Brett Somers. He keeps me sane. And he's gonna have to keep me extra sane this year as my partner in crime is ditching me with all the kids to go to some political blah whatever. Obi-wan. Man. Totally not cool. We were the 5-headed monster! Now it's just gonna be me and the tri-director squad. Hopefully he'll be able to make it for teen camp.
Even my mentor is only gonna be there for part of it. I can't do skits and worship without her!
Plus Amos is gone as she is pregnant and probably wouldn't like all the heat and all that. And she's been going as long as I've been going. 2nd grade 'til college graduate is a long time. Freakin' lifers. This year is gonna be interesting.
I refuse to take the torch from my mentor. There's no way I could take over the whole thing.
- Ultimate highlight: Cool Aunt called and we're going to the opening game of the College World Series Saturday!! Woohoo! Vanderbilt vs. North Carolina. I'll have to do some research before I pick a team but I'm guessing NC for this one at least. We went 2 years ago and I was all about LSU - they totally dominated. Year before that I lived with Grams and we went for Fresno State since they were the underdogs. They also dominated. Unfortunately, last year South Carolina beat my UCLA. Will have to see how the teams line up before I pick my final.
It's always fun to go to games with the Cool Aunt. Huskers games to cheer for Helu and Suh, CWS of awesomeness - except when we went it rained hardcore, haha. I think the only game we've went to that had decent weather was like...never. We've frozen at a Husker game, we got soaked at a CWS game, Oh! Kansas vs. Huskers in Kansas a couple years ago was only slightly cold. I pulled it off with a hoodie, so I guess you could call that nice weather. Anyway, it's about time we get some good weather karma. Now watch, me saying that is gonna screw us over.

Change of subject.

Songs for the night:

Gotta give a shout-out to the QofA and her cute little girl who had a dance party to yesterday's music. Here's some other fun ones to jam out to.

1999 Flashbacks

"Livin La Vida Loca" Ricky Martin

diggin' it. that's a totally stylish plastic coat at 2:38. I'm sure they were all the rage. especially for people who dance around in the rain of a fire hydrant.

"Mambo Number 5" Lou Bega

used to dance to this song all the time with my cousins. and those rope light necklaces at 0:52 would totally go well with the plastic jacket from the last video.

styling, i'm telling ya.

Posting early so I can write some more tonight and go to bed at a decent hour this time. Although there are no guarantees there. Tomorrow's split shift so I'll do some homework then. I'm almost halfway thru book #11, I'll finish that one up and get started on #12.

OUT!
