So today was work - we closed at 2 - and then the boyfriend's family Christmas.

I like their traditions it's very relaxing with no tiny children running all over the place.

Though they did have two dogs there tonight that were really not friends at all.

One fell asleep on my lap, she was really cute.

Anyway, so I went there, we ate supper then went to church. Was a candlelit thing, pretty cool, and then opened presents back at their place.

Got some pretty cool stuff - some awesome Husker chairs, socks, a digital picture frame, giftcards, and a wicked awesome Darth Vader bag.

It's a bag.

Cause I don't wear purses.

And Craig called it a bag and since he's the one who bought it that makes it a bag.

Though that didn't stop my boyfriend from labeling it as purse and calling it that repeatedly.

Even coming up with a little song about it.

Nope. Not a purse. Cause I don't wear purses.

But it is wicked sweet man.

And then of course there was the present from the boyfriend.

He was really good about keeping it secret and had me completely fooled.

Remember a few months ago when we decided - on the fly - that we were gonna go to Reno to see one of his favorite bands play? The full story is on here somewhere - ha, found it. Anyway, he mentioned it once one night before he left for work and when I woke up the next morning he already had the flight and rooms all booked.

Turns out my boyfriend is full of crap.

Instead of taking me to Reno he's taking me back to Vegas.

And we're staying in the Pyramid Suite of the Luxor Hotel.

aka my favorite cause I'm an Egypt nut. I literally drug him all over that hotel and photographed everything when we were there in November. Check Facebook, you'll see the pictures.

So he's really sweet.

And a punk.

First cause he lied. And second cause the tickets were in a box underneath a bag of coal.

Yes, actual coal from a train.

But he wrapped the present himself - which never happens. And I knew it was big cause his sister was there and she told me to sit down before I opened it.

Best boyfriend ever.

See what happens when I don't give him a list? It really works out in my favor so I'm going with it.

Anyway, so that was my day. I hope you all had a rockin' Christmas Eve.

Tomorrow is Christmas morning with my parents, then lunch with his extended family, and then hopefully supper with my parents. More on that later.

Anyway, before all this there wasn't a lot of music, minus when I was off desk cause I do listen to my headphones when I'm off desk.

Though you really have to watch out for which elevator you're in cause we have two and one has a bigass window and that would just be bad.

The other one is super slow and claustrophobic so to pass the time it works.

Where was I?

Oh right, work.

Work was super slow today - think it was the weather, everyone was outside instead.

It was a sweltering 40-some degrees today.

You scoffed at that, but 40-something is sweltering for December in Nebraska.

There's people outside in shorts.

It's madness.

And it's supposed to continue to swelter this week and hit 49 at some point. I'm hoping the trend is slowness doesn't continue as well.

But, I do actually get a lot done when it's slow so it wasn't all that bad.

We're working on getting plastic bags for the checkout which is super boring to you, I'm aware, but big for us, well me since I'm supplies and have to write a proposal for it and all that.

Thankfully I have Superwoman around to make it all shiny and stuff.

Speaking of shiny stuff, I got my final GPA. I finished with a 3.978 which out of 4.0 isn't all that bad.

Would have been a 4.0 if not for that lone A-

Mean.

So yes, tonight was the Voice finals. Tessanne rocked it. She's still my number one and I think she deserves to win, but I'm secretly cheering for Will cause he's the complete underdog.

He lost in the battles then got stolen by Xtina. He lost in the knockouts then got stolen back by Adam. He beat out James, Cole and Matthew which is madness and he did it all in style.

I know, I know, you don't care, but you should watch this cause it's excellent.

I'm instituting a new segment to the blog.

It's called the Practicum Countdown.

Today's number is 5/90.

I guess that's more of a Count-up.

I have 85 hours left to go that must be completed by December 1st.

Today was fun. 9-1 at the work branch - nothing super memorable aka bats on the ceiling, crazy stalker patrons, fire drills, etc.

Worked the desk, checked in, worked the desk some more and then ate lunch and headed over for my first official day of Practicum.

2-5 but he let me count my interview and research hours from yesterday so I'm up to 5, huzzah!

Mr. Bossman Tom gave me a tour of campus - there are three main buildings I'll be working out of. The main library and then we're setting up remote libraries in the mens' and womens' buildings for those who aren't allowed to leave those buildings.

After the tour we sorted and stamped books.

Every single stamp all I could think of was this:

Anyway, we stamped mega amounts of books. Mostly fiction but it's a work in progress. These were all from the booksale our library hosted last year and there were like 10 boxes of them. No, probably more, more like 15.

But it was good cause it gave me stuff to do for hours.

Basically we divided what was going to go in the womens' and what was going in the mens'. And then he had special stamps for each.

The maintenance staff has volunteered to deliver the boxes to the buildings - yay golf carts - and then Thursday we get to spend sorting and shelving.

Meanwhile we'll be coming up with lists for subject headings we've included and stuff we're short on.

I'm so excited, I'm such a nerd.

But again, you knew that.

It's a lot of fun, starting a library from scratch. And he mentioned going to the booksale again this year so we'll get even more to add to the collection.

Speaking of items in the collection, I discovered this one today and was super excited.

OH! And Mr. Bossman Tom took my side and chose Star Wars over Trek so I like him even more.

I'm feeling better about the practicum now that the first day is over. I was nervous before, but not so much anymore. Once we get the collections sorted out I get to man the desk every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon until December so I should pick up a lot of hours through the next couple months.

I was told today by two different people - Queen of the Known Universe and The Cool Aunt - that I shouldn't say "man the desk" as I am not a man. QoftKU says I should use "staff the desk" but I'm going with the Cool Aunt who said I should say "woman the desk" cause I find it amusing. And true.

After the stamping of awesomeness I met up with The Cool Aunt for some jalapeno margaritas.

I know you're all jealous. Well, the majority of you were on Facebook at least. Though Slim Shady is still not a fan of them. Missing out on life woman, missing out on life.

Dinner was good, though she wouldn't let me pay!

You should see her and Mom duke it out whenever they go out for lunch, it's highly entertaining.

I don't even try, though I was successful the one time when Mom left her wallet at the store and The Cool Aunt was too distracted by ice cream to grab the check before me.

Both had our fajitas. We don't even look at the menu anymore, it's always just jalapeno margaritas, veggie fajita for her and steak fajita for me.

Half of which is in my fridge. I'm sure I'll pull it out around 3AM.

Was good to catch up as we haven't done that in a while.

Our next dinner will take place after comps - I'm also not allowed to say "if I pass comps" according to her and Superwoman it's "when I pass comps".

We shall see.


Am I the only one who has absolutely no desire to watch the show Deal With It? Not a Howie Mandel fan in the first place, but that's just weird.

Good thing I went back.

Woke up at noon - Mom called, she brought my Xmas presents and took me out to lunch.

We hit up this local cafe and pie joint, holy awesomeness, Batman, there were like 50 types of pie listed on that menu. It was ridiculously fantastic. Brought a slice of banana cream along with half of my meal home with me.

Where I took a nap and then headed in to work for a whole 2 hours.

One of which I spent in the back room checking in 7 carts, the other at the front desk fielding a complaint that may make tomorrow quite interesting considering who I'm pretty sure it's about.

Don't worry, not staff.

After work I headed over to Oldest Sister's house for supper and come up with a game plan for Saturday. I'm off this weekend so when I woke up to a text from my super sweet boyfriend suggesting we hit up the hockey game this weekend, maybe taking Squirt and Bubby with us, I cleared it with their Mom and they're in.

Along with Squirt's boyfriend.

He did survive New Years with us and the many many rounds of Apples to Apples so you gotta give him props for that.

They seemed excited about the game. I'm already the cool aunt but since it was the boyfriend's suggestion I'm pretty sure he's won them over.

Though compared to the 2 others that they've met out of the ... let's not go there, he is the best.

So we ate and watched part of the Bama vs. Dame game.

When I left Bama was up big, haven't turned it back on but with the way the Irish were playing I'm pretty sure they got hosed.

Now I'm back and falling asleep but a question for you first.

So, the boyfriend got me this awesome smart bluray player that allows you to hook up to the internet and watch stuff off Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc. So now I'm debating on which to invest in, either of those or Amazon Prime.

Though I don't know if Prime is compatible or not. So I'm holding off on that one. Though I would get free shipping on stuff.

Anyway, Mom had Netflix so I've used that before but I watch stuff on Hulu all the time.

I'm leaning toward Hulu Plus since it has more recent TV episodes. It looks like with Netflix it's just past seasons. 

But any experience with either?

So shopping, more shopping and then watching first three Bourne movies whilst wrapping the aforementioned presents.

Trying to tie it together with number 4 since it takes place at the same time.

Lot of interesting spy dialogue but the majority of it is action scenes where there's no dialogue.

I know, I'm boring. Sorry. Bourne's was great, Spiderman is now not so bad, Xmas wrapping was easier than last time with Carter. He doesn't like it when my attention is otherwise engaged but I if I lay out only the size paper I need and then put the present down and start folding immediately then there's no time or space for him to lay down in the middle of everything.

Besides, he was going insane and running all over the place. Probably going insane. Not that I can blame him being locked up here all the time. Oh well, he'll come home to the farmhouse with me for Xmas and New Year's.

It's official.

Two years of employment with the same system.

A lot of memories have been made these past couple years. Fearless Leader and her musical phobia, Queen of the Known Universe bailing me out of a stalker situation, then me having to bail her out three minutes later from the same stalker, our Star Wars vs. Star Trek debates, Girlscout and me helping kids fish for bookmarks out of a plastic pool, making some booze cakes with Slim Shady and Fearless Leader... I could go on but I'll spare you.

Today was pretty fantastic, though I'm comparing it to yesterday and really, with that comparison, everything could be fantastic. 

YesterDay. Not YesterNight. Loved spending time with the boyfriend. He fixes everything. 

So I'm watching Mike and Molly Season One from the library. Shocking that I don't actually own it, it's fantastic and I'm constantly quoting Victoria.

"she asks me that twelve times a year, i don't think it has anything to do with thanksgiving."

May have to go out and buy it later this week.

Totally stoked for the College World Series. Cool Aunt and I are going to opening game again. Wonder who's gonna play. Last year it was NC vs. Vanderbilt. We were all for the "black and gold". Was super cool for SC to win the last game in Rosenblatt and the first game in the new stadium. 

Which I still call Rosenblatt. 

Cause TD-Ameritrade is just dumb for a baseball stadium.

He's a cool guy so the day flew by fairly quickly.

Was amusing to go back to old habits, though he got the bookdrop I still went straight to routine with the holds list/expired/cancelled/counting money/checking in delivery/etc.

Hit up Arby's for lunch, that rocked.

And basically just jammed around all day.

Though for some reason I'm exhausted, which makes no sense cause while the work branch is constantly busy, the home branch is more relaxed. So it doesn't make sense.

Maybe it's a state of mind thing. Zenned out.

I'm tired.

And waking up early tomorrow morning so will probably konk out within the next few minutes.

Looking forward to tomorrow, gonna see Titanic with the boyfriend. Will probably be packed but whatever.

Other than the frustration that is homework today was good. Staff meeting in the morning - I felt like such a nerd cause this whole cataloging class has taught me a lot about our operating system and really how to search for things and what terminology to use.

So yes, I'm a nerd and we're supposed to share stuff with our coworkers but how can I explain without making me sound like a total nerd that you can search "Explosive 18" and "Explosive Eighteen" and get results either way because the cataloger included the 246 tag meaning it has the alternate title in the bibliographic record.

Or like if you type in an episodes title - depending on the cataloger - you'll be able to find the DVD because all the titles are listed in the added entries contents tag aka 505.

Or actors names/subject topics under added entry in the 600's.

But basically if you can't find something it's not necessarily the system that's not listing it just to tick you off, the system depends heavily on the cataloger and how much information was input.

Or copy-cataloged from OCLC.

Which I think is the easiest and most common way to add something to your catalog.

Anyway you can find all that in the bib record on the MARC option which shows you how many letters are skipped in order to be properly cataloged and where information is located on the book by using code.

Which I guess is irritating to people because they're about to switch over to RDA where everything i spelled out and easier to comprehend.

The only reason they use codes now is that it takes up less memory space.

And once you get the hang of them they're easy enough.
