Ow.
That's all I have to say about today.
I don't know what I did but when I woke up this morning my back was in a massive amount of pain.
Must have slept wrong or slept walked and injured myself, who knows.
But it hurt.
All day.
Not that I'm whining about it.
Sorry.
Pain.
Just reminds me that I'm getting older, which is not an easy thing to adjust to.
Though my TAB kids remind me of it every day.
While we were building our golf holes yesterday one of the teens was talking about her mom using hip terminology and how it was weird.
"cause she's old, like you."
"ouch, how old do you think i am?"
Okay, first off, 30 is not old.
And second, why do teens think I'm 30? That's the second one of them at the library that's told me that.
I'm 25, good God.
Ugh.
New topic.
So what the crap is with this weather?
Every day this week we've had massive rain showers, flood warnings, and tornado watches.
Today's included a brief tornado warning, which led my boss, the guard and myself to the basement even though it was after closing.
Though it made closing extremely easy for the like 3 people that were still in the building.
Either come to the basement with us or leave.
They left.
After grocery shopping for the kickoff party today we'd have plenty of sustenance.
I mean, if we wanted to live off of apple juice and nilla wafers.
Although apparently Queen of the Known Universe has a secret stash of cookies somewhere.
Hmmm....
Anyway, doesn't it say something in Revelations about natural disasters taking over right before the end of days?
That was Revelations right?
My 17 years of private Lutheran schools hasn't failed me now has it?
Yes, I am one of those.
Though now I work in a very public library, and am getting my Master's at a public University, so don't give me that look.
I'm a rebel like that.
Those were basically the highlights of the day.
Back pain.
Kickoff shopping - bought 230 boxes of juice, 4 boxes of Nilla wafers, some seeds and ziplock bags and ah, crap. I forgot the napkins.
Oh well, I'm pretty sure I have some of those somewhere.
More training in the afternoon.
During which a bird divebombed the glass door.
Like there are windows galore and he chooses the door with stuff hanging all over it?
You'd think he's notice that one isn't fly-through-able.
I felt bad for laughing.
Especially when he kind of just sat there for like 20 minutes in shock next to the door.
The guard walked by and we flagged him down.
We went to show him and the bird was gone.
So that's a good sign.
The 8 - yes 8 - giant feathers in a big circle next to the door however were not such a good sign.
After the bird came the storm, after the storm I headed home - couldn't see the road in front of me for half of the drive, but I did in fact make it home. In like double the time it usually takes me.
Came home to watch Wipeout and some Iron Chef.
I'm digging this whole tournament of champions thing.
It's very exciting.
I'm watching an old one right now, where current Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli is actually still a sous-chef to Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian.
If you have no idea who I'm talking about this is Alex and this is Zakarian.
I usually root for the challenger, unless they're up against Cat Cora, but this time I think I'm going for the IC's because of the combination of the both of them.
And that was my day.
Exciting, yet not overly.
Song of the day:
Sitting Waiting Wishing - Jack Johnson
sweet video. no idea how they did it.
totally under-rated artist.
yes, i've posted it before, but it was back in like 2011.
good god, have i had this thing for that long?
apparently so.
Remember, Remember the 5th of November.
Got an email about classes starting next week.
Ugh.
I was just getting used to this whole time off thing.
Bought the textbook, it is already en-route.
For one of the classes at least, the other isn't online yet.
But that's the 1 credit class I can finish in a weekend.
Huzzah for that.
The other class may kill me.
I'm trying to down play it and not freak myself out, but it's a lot to do in a month.
Oh well, July and it'll be over.
Then it will be camp season. Then it'll be August for my last semester of classes. Then it'll be December and I'll be done.
And then it'll be times like these when I look back and say yeah no, not gonna go for the Doctorate.
I like having free time.
and i'm out.
here's to hoping tonight's sleep doesn't make my back any worse.
I could write a blog. I have thoughts.
Life at the library, adventures with friends and other hysterics...

"cause Total Recall just screams birthday..."
What a day, for a birthday, seriously.
No actually it was great.
I debated taking off work but now I'm glad I went in.
Had multiple compliments about my work from patrons and kicked ass in the stats category so I'm good for the day.
Worked 9-6, but imagine my surprise when at about 12:50 who shows up but the Library Goddess?
Bringing me a gift certificate to my favorite coffee joint.
I was stoked.
Was good to get to talk with her, especially about class stuff for this week.
See, she's all about us being the post office. We have class no matter the weather. There could be balls of fire raining down on us, Armegeddon in the wings and we'd still have class so she's like in physical pain that on Thursday the special library that we're supposed to go visit is closing early due to future storm warnings.
Apparently we're in for the storm of the century though I don't know if I believe the hype.
Now watch I'll get snowed in again.
100 percent chance of snow. I don't think I've every seen 100 percent chance of any weather before this.
Technically we've been in a winter storm warning since this afternoon but it's not supposed to start snowing until tomorrow night.
But basically, everything in my life will revolve around the storm and its extent - work, class, the boyfriend, so really all I can do is wait.
Anyway, so the Library Goddess stopped by gave me a coffee card, got a card in the mail from the Cool Aunt with more coffee bucks, letter from the parentals with some cash - Second Sister sang twice once by herself and once with the kids.
Quote of the day:
"Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy Birth-you still there?"
"Yeah."
"-day dear..."
After work the boyfriend stopped by. We watched Total Recall - second sister made fun of me "cause Total Recall just screams birthday" but hey it sounded good at the time.
Collin Farrell, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale and a bunch of robots. Scale of Awesome says about 6/10. I mean, it wasn't awesome but it wasn't awful. Bit weird at moments, but I enjoyed their hand phones.
Alright, music, family history part four and then I'm out.
Other Side - Sloan
yes, you heard it on Castle cause it's awesome.
Family History: Part Four
Francis James was born on April 25, 1911, to parents, Claude and Lillian. He was the oldest of five children. Grandpa went to high school in Geneva and then in O’Neill for his last two years where he graduated in 1929. During that time he lived in the boarding house run by Amolia’s parents. He and grandma courted for four years and were married.
Grandpa was a hard worker, always out early in the mornings to “beat the heat.” He was a big fan of playing baseball and cards. While grandma was more of a homebody, grandpa continued to play cards with the same group of friends until he moved to the nursing home. Then he would play with his friends there and with me and some of the kids from my school on our usual Heritage visits. We’d go over there and play games with the residents. I had a lot of fun playing pitch with grandpa.
He also used to go hunting. Grandpa was big on outdoor anything. He rode horses and even had his own boat for when they went fishing. He used to love to take us all out on the boat. My cousins would water-ski and I would help grandpa drive the boat. Grandma however, seemed to hate the water. It is said that grandpa went for all the camping, boating and fishing but grandma went for the conversation.
Grandpa had his own pond that he filled with fish. Every afternoon he’d ride his mower out to the pond with fish food. I went with him a lot and sat on his lap. Grandpa said the fish knew the sound of the mower because it meant food and he was right. The fish came right up to the edge every time we showed up. We stood on the side and threw pellets out into the water. My dad now takes care of the pond. He built a dock and tries every summer to get rid of the foliage surrounding and filling it.
Grandpa was a great man with no enemies. He and grandma were well respected throughout the area. He died my sophomore year of high school and it’s still weird to me to go to their house and see it all changed. My brother lives there now and only the outside remains the same.
It is uplifting for me to write about the lives of my grandparents. They were remarkable people. They survived the depression, the dust bowl, the death of two infant children, and celebrated 71 years together. A parcel of land was given to me and my siblings from them which has and is paying for all of our college educations. Most of all, their home was a center of activity and love for my aunts, uncles, cousins, parents, siblings and me. A lot of memories were made there.
They lived more than ninety-years and yet again somehow it’s been reduced to only a few pages. It’s hard to summarize someone’s life, especially when it’s someone so close to you. They were a major part of my life and writing this brings it all back. I’ll never forget the card-playing, being grandpa’s little helper, sitting and talking with grandma, the chicken-noodle soup, the yellow tea pot, sitting on grandpa’s lap and watching television, and just generally being in their presence. They always made me feel at home, even when I wasn’t.
And that's all I got for that one which means tomorrow it's time for some fiction.
I'm thinking AJ.
Yep.
Going with AJ.
Legitimate pre-midnight post. Holy crap tag in use.

I might be wearing swiss cheese or may be covered in bees...
"we're the cheese at the end of the maze."
So interesting day today: Summer Reading Program training in the morning. I basically directed the kiddos downstairs and observed Mentor lead the meeting. Just going over all the Summer Reading events along with booklets and signup. But everything is online so it's super easy.
It was cool to watch the TAB kids at work, they got to lead the ice breaker, using speed dating as the activity. Basically they came up with the prompts, but it was still speed dating and highly amusing.
They also explained the booklets and all that.
After that it was camp central. Met up with the core group - minus a few - came up with an application form, changed some stuff around price-wise, basically since there's going to be air conditioning in the new building it's going to be a bit more expensive.
But we fixed it.
Sort of.
I guess we'll see.
And of course we did it in our very own goofy and procrastinative way.
But we got the job done, though the most interesting part was while we were stuffing envelopes my mom calls all frantic. "I don't know where you are but get in the basement."
Apparently there was a tornado headed straight at the farmhouse and stopped right before it got hit.
Kind of an eye-opener.
Though we were at the church so we basically just moved our party downstairs and kept working.
And it was probably good that we were there cause the basement always leaks when there's a big storm. The outside drains get clogged with leaves so Obi-Wan fixed it for the night.
But the farmhouse is fine, apparently Dad watched the whole thing on his way home, but pulled over cause he didn't want to drive into it.
We didn't even notice the storm cause the blinds were closed, but then Steve looks up and says something about it being dark out, that's when we got the phone call from Mom. Turned on the TV and went, yeah, should probably move downstairs...
Alright, I'm out semi-early for a weekend. Church tomorrow morning and Squirt gets her diploma for graduating grade school, woohoo! After that is dinner and after that is an open house FOR CAMP J!
We get to tour the new building, I'm stoked will take pictures for the new website.
Oh yeah, we're getting a new website. Cause ours is down. And isn't coming back up. But it'll be easier this way, maintain it ourselves and all that. So we're thinking we should add in a link for the history of our Camp J which means I have to start listing all the themes that I can remember.
And since our first year was 1982 we're thinking we should do some sort of 30th anniversary edition kind of thing.
I'm just stoked cause I'm practically done for the 7/8 and teen helper skits.
Yes, the teen helpers are doing a skit.
They're going to do it and they're going to like it.
Cause I said so.
And I'm mean like that.
But it's humorous and it's not like I'm making them sing. Just you know...dance...and cheer...and there's a possibility of a wig. But maybe not if I still got my female teen helper.
Everyone's just stoked for the new building.
And I'm stoked that we're done with the application forms. They'll get sent out this week so I'll probably already have my hands full by the end of the week.
Which reminds me that I need to go buy a new binder. Cause last year's is overflowing. And I've just started buying new ones every year instead of having to deal with the old stuff. Put it in the tub and be done with it.
Songs of the night:
"Express Yourself" - Madonna
the originator that led to the spinoff aka "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga even though she claims it has nothing to do with this one. Um...melody...theme...outfits...hmmm...
Which I would have posted, but the video was far too creepy. Seriously weirded me out.
So you get Weird Al instead.
And I think I like it better.
"Perform This Way" - Weird Al
and amusing enough the weirdness in this video doesn't even breach the weirdness in that one. and so glad he brought the madonna angle to it.
i love him. and apparently he writes children's books so i like him even more.

You'll probably move right through me on my way to you.
Okay, it's official, I've been at both branches for a year. Woohoo! Huzzah! And other celebration declarations!
Spent the morning shelving, then the afternoon watching more DVDs that are checked out and due soon plus did a little reading. I'm hoping to get down to only a hundred pages left in Book #5 by the end of the night. But that's just hoping, I might fall asleep in the meantime. I've been exhausted all day. Was up way too late last night. But Bridesmaids was hysterical and you know when you're on like an emotional high and you just can't sleep? That was me. So I watched half a season of Frasier, seriously like two discs worth of episodes to zen me out but it didn't work. I think I was out by maybe 3 or so. Then, at like 7AM, somebody like buzzed or beeped - I guess it's more of a loud beep - me and I don't know if they were intentionally hitting my button or if they just needed in or what but I totally just laid there hoping they would go away. And I checked my phone to make sure it wasn't like my mother saying why aren't you awake and letting me in? But no messages and no second beeps so I think it was just someone forgetting their keys or something. Cause, clearly, if it was meant for me and it's before 10AM they're crazy. Unless they're my mother, who usually gives some level of forewarning. And she brings things like coffee or bananas. So it's worth it.
Was that more thunder? Seriously? Although I guess I shouldn't be complaining as my apartment building is still intact unlike some houses and things that were destroyed earlier this week. YIKES! Must be natural disaster season.

See, at first I thought he was just a spy. But dancing spy ninja-looking person, so much cooler.

Alright, tomorrow is a short day then dinner with some family so I'm gonna read and konk out. Have a good night.

Wake me when it's in the yard.
I stick true to my grandma’s philosophy on storms. We live in Tornado Alley for Christ’s sake. If we went to the basement every time there was a storm warning we’d never leave! Everyone would be freaking out about the tornados and the wind and the hail and Grandma would just go to bed. “Wake me when it’s in the yard.” Sounds good to me.
So, after hanging at Subway, eating icecream with some of the family we finally decided to just drive back through the storm warnings and the hail and the rain. Oldest sister followed me - M has school tomorrow and I have to work so staying there wasn’t an option.
And I don’t listen to the radio so for all I know we could have been driving straight into storm central. It could have been like a “That 70’s Show” moment. Have you seen the one where Eric has to go pick up Donna at the radio station and he puts in a cassette tape while he’s driving? Meanwhile, you can see the tornado in the background like tearing up houses and stuff. He’s just totally dancing and singing the whole time. Then when he gets there Donna makes a big deal out of him coming to get her and driving through it and he totally freaks out because he’s scared of tornados.
What a day, seriously. Worked 9-1 - staff meeting, backroom, backroom, public service. Got yelled at by an Aide, nicknamed by a supervisor - “big brother” and I are now the “Gruesome Twosome”. I told you we ask a lot of questions, she probably wants to run and hide when we come downstairs, then basically took off as soon as I could to head out for practice.
Practice was good, they were into it, I could hear them, they sang the right words, only needed to be cued a few times. We were like, they’re gonna pull this off! Like shocked. Sent them home and came back for supper in the basement. Lots of parents and family came so that was cool. Then upstairs to the classroom where we hung out, talked things over with them and all that, walked down to the stage together. Start like right away. I’m barely in the door when the first song starts. Song goes great, I’m thinking, alright this is going to work.
After the song…okay, imagine 14 kids wanting to be anywhere else. Now put them all together on a stage, staring off into space, whispering back and forth, arms crossed, messing with their clothes, it was like - people could have slept through it. Seriously. But, there were only a few times they needed to be cued so they were paying attention. Somewhat. I don’t know if it was nerves because of the audience or if they were just tired of it but I could not get any eye contact. Usually, I do motions and dance in the back and distract them so that they’re looking up and smiling and stuff - no, no one would look at me. It was crazy.
But it’s done, and I waved and it’s done. Back to having free time. HA! More time for homework maybe.
Speaking of, duuude. Have you ever read a book or watched a movie that you’re so into that when you turn it off or put it down you have to re-adjust to life as you were living it before the experience? This is one of those books. A book that makes me ignore the music that’s blaring in my headphones so I don’t even hear it because I’m so focused on what happens next. So it doesn’t matter that the play could have gone better. Much better. Because now I get to finish the book. Damn you Library Goddess. You and your good taste in literature. I’m toast for this class. I’m not going to have any time to do anything else but read Young Adult novels. But this one…makes that totally worth it. I’ll give you a Scale of Awesome when I’m done with it. 100 pages left, actually less than that, I could barely put it down before the play. I was late to the beginning of the potluck - which is fine because it’s a potluck so you come and go - because I couldn’t put it down.
Currently, I just feel like an emotional wreck. Completely exhausted. Work was awesome - til I got yelled at - but after that it was good again, the practice was good I was excited for that, then I went home and read so I was totally zombie mode for that zoning out everything but the book, then I started to get a headache at supper, but I got to see my mentor and hang out with some friends so I ignored it, the play was just an experience - something to scrapbook let’s go with that - I totally started crying during one of the songs not because it was good or bad just because of the melody and the lyrics which makes me a cheese ball but it didn’t matter, because no one was looking up at me anyway! HA! After the play was the awards, Nic is always good with that kind of stuff, then they started taking down the set decorations, we headed to get ice cream, I almost puked in the bathroom - when I have a headache for a long time I get nauseous. Ask Oldest sister, she’s got a fun experience involving me in a mall parking lot after seeing “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” with its shaking camera and my going in with a headache. And I love that movie! “Baby, you couldn’t find the button with both hands and a map” but now when I see it all I can think of is a bucket and a parking lot. After the ice cream it was the drama of sitting around waiting for the storms to move on. Which they didn’t so we drove through them. Then I was debating which was worse for my car - driving through the hail and the pressure of it against a moving car, or for it to be in a parking lot like a sitting duck with no where to hide. Which do you think would do more damage? I guess I’ll see what it looks like tomorrow. Then, driving back with Oldest Sister was amusing because for some reason, even though she’s older and has 4 wheel drive, I was the leader, or maybe those are the reasons why she wanted to follow me - who knows - so we were like waving when we got into town and I was going to turn so we were in the lane next to each other and then this other car was between us - pretty sure we weirded them out. But whatever. Now I’m finally back at my apartment, writing this, will post it, then read my book until I fall asleep like last night - I woke up with my book and my big fat cat in my lap. And like, he’s a big cat. So I don’t know how I didn’t wake up when he jumped on me, but I was out. Like out.
Now this is really long so post, then read, then sleep, then work, then finalize homework then get ready for class. Huzzah!
Song for the night - because it’s the same song, well kind of.

Outside it may be raining, but in here it’s entertaining!
