I could write a blog. I have thoughts.

"Camera adds 10 pounds." "What's your excuse for the other 20?"

Ridiculous, I'm aware.

So Bruce Lee was in Nebraska today.

Sorry, Lee Brice.

Whoever that is.

I keep calling him Bruce Lee cause it's easier to remember.

Plus it makes Sketch mad cause she's a fan.

There was this big secret concert in Milligan cause it's halfway between LA and NY. It's part of Pepsi's halftime series. Anyway it was a big secret as to who was gonna perform, there were rumors of Bruno Mars, Keith Urban, and then someone thought they saw Faith Hill in G-Town so everyone thought it was her or Tim McGraw and then it's Bruce Lee.

Sorry, Lee Brice.

Who the crap is Lee Brice?

Anyway, it helped us decide whether we were going or not.

Country twang, that we don't know, in 15 degree whether...yeah no.

Sorry if you're a fan.

And yes I am a country girl and grew up on country music, but the country music that I grew up on was so much different than what plays nowadays.

I'm a fan of 80's-90's country, but not so much of today's.

But that's okay, the people that did go seemed pretty excited about it.

And I was just happy to be inside in the warm.

Today actually was pretty good.

Slept in - 'til like 10 - made waffles with my new wafflemaker - they were awesome - watched NCIS marathon - well, like 2 episodes, I didn't realize Grimm's royal captain was part of Paula Cassidy's team, yay Sasha Roiz - did movie night with the teens - we watched the Hobbit part 1, well half of us did - then date night with the boyfriend - Grudge Match.

The Hobbit was interesting. They're teens so of course they don't actually watch the movie at a movie night, actually half of them did while the other half sat in the corner and screamed every time someone came up accidentally in the elevator.

Though it was usually just the security guard.

The corner group was fine, except they're the ones that wanted to watch the Hobbit, while the rest of us were for Princess Bride and got out-voted.

We should have switched it out and see if they noticed.

After movie night I went out to see the boyfriend. We saw Grudge Match.

It was...alright. Scale of Awesome says 6/10.

My problem is that I love De Niro but hate Stallone and in the movie De Niro is a jerk and Stallone is the nice guy you're supposed to root for so I couldn't get into it.

After that we went out for supper, watched part of Star Wars 5, then he went to work and I came back to my big fat cat.

En route I talked to Sketch, hence the Bruce Lee frustration.

And that was my day.

I'm hoping tomorrow is good as well, though apparently this whole week is gonna be freezing cold. Ugh.

On to the music: More of my favorites from 2013.

Radioactive - Imagine Dragons

mostly love Will Champlin's version of this, but the original is good too.

Just Give Me a Reason - Pink ft. Nate Ruess

love them.

out.

Maybe if I act like that, flippin' my blonde hair back...

Ah the weekend. It flew by too quickly as usual. But at least it was a good one.

Saturday was zen-fest. Slept in, did a bit of homework before heading out to the farmhouse to watch the Husker game.

Holy crap man.

If you don't know what happened you should watch this highlight reel. It pretty much sums it up.

Madness, the zen stopped there.

Which was good cause then it was off to my cousin's wedding reception. Total rustic approach it was awesome. I jammed out with Homey-G-Wigger and Obi-Wan plus the Mentor came and joined our table and then my brother, his wife and family made an appearance. We hid out in the corner and talked for a while. Didn't really dance but did take quite a few pictures to send to my chair-ridden mother.

It was fun. I liked the whole laid back approach when we get married - if he ever proposes - that's what I want. No pressure and open bar. We got drink tickets. Obi-Wan actually went and stole us extra ones when we ran out.

Don't worry I was driving so I only had 2.

Amaretto sours, they're good stuff.

After the reception I headed to the farmhouse where Mom and I watched SNL.

Well, I watched SNL, she bailed on me for sleep.

SNL was actually funny this weekend. Eminem - who I love - performed and then of course Kerry Washington - who I also love - hosted.

These were my favorites.

What Does My Girl Say - Ylvis parody

better than the original. mostly cause i hate the original but i would buy this on iTunes.

Ain't no lady baby.

Respect my ability to assess a bucket.

I want a sound machine to follow me around.

How's He Doing?

He does not.

I love Keenan trying to keep a straight face. I would have died.

My new tradition whilst at the farm is to fall asleep watching episodes of MXC on Hulu. Did you know they have all the episodes available? It's love it.

Please tell me you know what MXC is. If you don't you are severely culture deprived and should now go and watch it on Hulu.com

It's basically the original Wipeout. Americans took the Japanese game show Takeshi's Castle and dubbed it in English. It's clearly not what they're actually saying which makes it even funnier.

Would have been nice to get that extra hour of sleep but instead I woke up to Mom yelling that I needed to ride with my brother in the semi to get the pickup and bring it home.

Hopped in the semi, drank my coffee and ate my cereal. Huzzah.

Then it was church, stopped by the VFW and got meals to go for lunch, I finished my paper, submitted it and then stopped by to see the boyfriend now that he's back from yet another motorcar adventure.

Now I'm back and Carter and I are wiped. Gonna crash.

Song of the Day: Driving my mom's car this week while my headlight gets fixed so it's back to XM radio and Songs You Know But Forgot You Knew Them

Stupid Girls - Pink

totally forgot about this one, back in the good ole days. jammed out to this one on the way back.

out. legitimate pre-midnight post, holy crap tag in use.

where oh where have the smart people gone?

Stupid SpongeRobert, get in the hole!

This weekend was huge.

I'm exhausted.

I feel old.

Though I was told this morning by my nephew that since I'm not married I'm not a grown up.

So I've got that going for me.

We asked him what about Laverna - my 96-year-old great aunt - cause she's not married and he says that she must not be a grown up either.

Okay so yesterday was Tee it up for Tuition the annual golf tournament fundraiser for my old high school. 2G dominated.

This year we were at a different course with almost double the amount of teams.

Which is both good and bad.

It's good because it means more money for the school but bad because it means we had to wait at each and every hole.

And when we get stuck waiting Pastor gets bored and hits balls into cornfields.

Which is why I brought my bag full of throwaways.

Huzzah.

I, myself, stuck with my colored balls.

I hate Spongebob with a passion so I enjoy smacking the crap out of the ones with his face on them.

And hit one into a water hazard on purpose to send him back to his stupid pineapple under the sea.

I started with a box of 8 I finished with 2.

We par-red out. We were one up at one point and then the last whole put us even.

It was a lot of fun. We're really goofy and not really in it to win it - mostly because the winning team this year golfed a 15 under par. So yeah, a bit off of that. We just want to beat Hillman.

That is literally our only goal and this year we tied him.

Since we are the loudest and goofiest ones there this is what you may have overheard if you were present.

Quotes of the Day:

"Now you know what it's like to ride in a cart with her."
"Hey, I didn't throw you out last year."

"Here's your snake cake."

"Fly by the seat of your phone."

"Blow a gasket if you have to!"
"I didn't know I had one but I will."

"Port-a-John."

"The guy with the girl name."

"Thanksgiving! Lutheran Church. We need more exclamation points at our church."

"SpongeRobert!"

This is our 4th year though year 1 was before I started the blog so I only have years 2: Our Drinking Team Has a Golfing Problem and 3: Bob of Sponge, Won't You Come? Won't You Come?

As you can see not much has changed.

The new course was nice, but not so nice was the fight that broke out over dinner - seriously? between one of the golfers on the other team and a random drunk dude - the long wait for prizes and then the 2 hour drive back.

So we're saying, move it back! Move it back!

Or closer at least.

Or start it earlier. 2 is way too late, because of all the waiting we didn't get back to the clubhouse until 7:15. Dinner didn't get over until 8, we left halfway through the prizes - mostly because there was nothing good left but also because it was 8:30 and we had a 2 hour drive left.

If they started at 9 we could just do an lunch eating thing and it would be much cooler.

I'd be in for that.

We'll see if they think it went well as it is ultimately their decision.

So that was golf.

Today was softball.

I love playing with "Who's Steve?" We're like a dysfunctional family but it works for us.

We put the fun in dysfunctional.

We've been playing together so long that we don't even worry about assigning positions cause we play the same spots every year.

Batting order we switch up though.

The batting order 5 years ago is where our name originated. In case you were wondering why someone would name their team "Who's Steve?"

Pastor was new and his wife - who also plays - wrote up the order. Since she calls him by his actual name and not "Pastor" she wrote "Steve". When Becky was reading off the list she was like "Mike, Becky, Steve - Who's Steve?" "Um, Pastor." And it stuck.

Now we're gonna have team t-shirts made. And they're gonna be awesome.

This is just a warmup for our fall season so we don't really care that we lost.

I don't know what happened, we started off really strong but came up short.

Couple of errors but really the other team was just as good. Lot of back and forth.

But that's okay, we'll get revenge on labor day as they will be on our turf.

Huzzah for the 2nd Annual WELS Softball Area Tournament.

They came last year as well, Unhook the Plow, we lost the first but smashed them down like the hand of God in the second so it evened out. Then called ourselves the Champions cause we could.

We should get a trophy for this year.

Remind me of that closer to the tournament.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun, I like playing with my brother and the rest of the crazy gang.

As is tradition I slid and broke open my leg. Not as bad as previous years - and at least this year's slide was intentional, as opposed to last year's...I don't even know what to call it - read the link above for the description of that slow motion fluke.

So I got my leg all wrapped up in my gauze pads that I have in bulk cause I know I'll need them each and every year whether intentional or not so intentional.

And my big fat cat is staring at me saying, hey, it's time for sleep so guess I should stop rambling and put the laptop down so he can fall asleep on my stomach as usual.

Songs of the Weekend:

Black Hold Sun - Soundgarden

cause I always sing "Bob of sponge, won't you come?" when I golf.

Raise Your Glass - Pink

i'm posting this version because i like watching michelle pfeiffer's character attempt to dance.

awesomeness.

it took me until this exact moment to realize that they were in hairspray together.

woops.

to be fair her character in that was the polar opposite of her character in this.

and i don't really pay attention to his credits.

though he does have some nice dance moves.

we're not broken just bent, and we can learn to love again.

I hate those stupid rambling kid commercials about the more and faster is better.

I have no idea what product they're for but I hate it already.

Ugh.

Side note, sorry, on in the background.

Hi!

So today was good. Very busy. Had 3/4 of the afternoon off desk and I still feel like I'm behind on Summer Reading stuff.

Finally got our dates nailed down for our Teen Summer Reading Events.

This year my teens are going with:
Jar Decorating - basically you put tape and stickers on a jar and then you paint the whole thing and peel the tape/stickers off to reveal the design to go with the "Beneath the Surface" theme and then also we're making paper lanterns with the jars so we have super thin paper that you draw on and then tape it around the jar, put a light in the jar and it makes a sweet nightlight.
Homemade Book Board Games - so the teens bring their favorite book to the library and we'll help them make a board game about it. So like with the Hunger Games they could do a Monopoly setup with the Capitol as Boardwalk. I did this in college with Pride and Prejudice - "Marry Mr. Collins, lose next turn" "Punch Miss Bingley in the face, move ahead three spaces" etc. - But we'll get them set up with templates for boards and then teach them how to make game pieces and all that.
Library Golf - this is the big one and it's the first event because that's the best time of year for my TAB kids to be able to help out. So we'll be starting off with a bang. As for logistics we will start on 4th floor with a couple of holes up there, ride the elevator down to 2nd (passed admin), around the nonfiction and music sections, down the back stairs and then through adult fiction and youth services.

I'm hoping the golf is especially popular just because of all the work that will go into it by the teens. Designing the holes and all that. I've been getting tips from a friend of Infoman's - things like using old mousepads to tee off of or using real golf balls instead of pingpong balls because they're easier to aim, etc.

The funny thing about the whole thing is that the mock booklets for Teen Summer Reading were sent out to the Teen Experience crew (which is basically the TAB leaders and some supervisors) to make sure the descriptions were spelled correctly and like 5 minutes after they were sent I got an email from one of the branch managers asking if she could help out with the golf.

This is after Girlscout asked if she could caddie.

And our Boss's Boss's Boss's Assistant gave me her stamp of approval today as well.

So if the teens are half as interested as the library employees are then we should be good.

I'm stoked.

I told her the more supervisors I can have on board the better as I'm still getting some apprehensive vibes.

We'll see how it goes and if it's awful then we'll learn from that and move on.

So that was the majority of my day, I finished the signs for the events - minus the kickoff party - and came up with supply lists. Anyone know where I can get 9 putters for like 3 hours on a June Wednesday afternoon?

There's a lot of golfers on staff maybe I can borrow them.

Anyway, so that was work. After work I met up with the boyfriend. We took some pictures around the train station - one of his favorite hobbies. He focused on the trains while I went more for the signs.

As in I saw the sign.

And it did open up my eyes cause I saw the sign.

Or sign, sign, everywhere a sign.

Blocking out the scenery breakin' my mind.

That one needs more words. Or be smaller. Cause it's awkward.

Quote of the night:
Boyfriend singing: I hope you're having fun, Man on the run...
Me: Band.
Boyfriend: Band on the run...

Okay, you have to watch this.

Sorry, on Facebook - multitasking - and ran across a "whaaat?" meme, stupid addictive memes, so of course I had to search it and came across that.

Still laughing uncontrollably at 0:01 and 2:10-2:13.

Anyway, after pictures we went out to dinner with his mom and brother. Pizza at Old Chicago - gotta love it.

And now I'm back and ready to crash.

Though I'm debating staying up to do some editing, awesome writer friend sent me some updates to one of my favorites of hers and I'm dying to see them.

But that means I'll get hooked and not sleep and then tomorrow I'll be miserable.

Okay, it's 12 now. I need to be out by 1. That's the deal, no later.

We're good, music and I'm off to edit.

P!nk - Just Give Me a Reason feat. Nate Ruess

yes, that is the Fun. dude.

too catchy, love the melody.

out!

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

so you better get this party started.

To whoever got to my blog by searching "granola superfly" I salute you.

Is it whoever or whomever?

I know, I'm an English major but I'm too tired to function correctly.

But it's worth it cause I shockingly am done with all my skits.

I know, right?! What is wrong with this picture?

I'm like in shock. Usually I don't finish them until Thursday night at like 2AM.

Actually I usually don't START half of them until Thursday night at 2AM. All I have left to do is print them all out and I can do that tomorrow when I get there.

Sad fact, I have to use the list I created for counselors and campers to remember what to pack.

To be fair we did make it years ago, but I look it over every year. It's the little things like shower shoes that I don't wanna forget.

Still haven't started packing yet, figured skits should be the priority this year. Last year I was all stressed out and freaked they weren't gonna get done. We do have some good ones this year. Bringing back tankety-tank-tank, thinking of bringing back the original Zammerman to play the drill sergeant since he's coming back as a teen helper this year. Go here: Tankety Tank Tank

The HeeHaw verses are fantastic and I still have plenty of them to choose from next year. Just gotta remember to have them go between other skits, unlike last year when I didn't realize I'd forgotten that part until after like the 5th grade skits. Woops.

But they did them all together at the end.

Hopefully we'll have the service inside and they'll actually be able to hear them. Every year the microphones pick up the wind and the people are too far back - we're Lutherans, there is no sitting in the front row now matter where the service takes place.

Alright, this will be my last post for a while. I'm sure I'll overload you when I get back.

Food day plus some food for winning the food drive competition, so lots of food tomorrow morning. Gotta remember to grab some fruit before I leave.

Hope queen of the known universe brings her awesome dip. That stuff rocks, gonna have to buy the mix. Though that would involve cooking and that' not exactly my strongpoint. I can put peanut butter onto celery, make sandwiches and add milk to cereal, throw some fruit into the blender for a smoothie but that's about it.

Alright, officially going to crash.

Gonna be mad at myself tomorrow morning. This post will say it's 11:50, at the moment is way passed 12. Actually passed 1. But that's okay cause I'm done with my skits so it's worth it.

You have no idea how weird it is to have them all done. Usually I still have yet to pick out half of them.

I blame it on the fact that I don't have my final numbers yet, which I don't. Got a phone call today from a kid wanting to know if they could still go. Which is fine cause that grade I didn't have to tweak anything. She's in 8th and I'm making them sing HeeHaw so it doesn't matter how big the group becomes. As long as they sing and sing loud.

Alright, moving on. Square!

You can add "Marry Me" the Glee cast version to my ever-growing list of songs Carter hates.

Met up with mom so she could take him while I'm gone.

For some bizarre reason he was actually okay with this one.

might be my new jam.

well, old jam brought back from the dead.

love the video, for serious cool stuff.

Alright, I'm out.

Have a good night/morning/day/whenever you're reading this

Thursday, February 16, 2012

and my fingers are bejeweled with diamonds and gold, but that ain't gonna help me now.

Apparently 24 is not old.

That's what I was told today.

I'm aware it's not THAT old.

But for me, it's old...er...than I am now.

Or it is for the next few days at least.

And I'm starting to feel it.

Or maybe that's cause I'm still sick.

With whatever it is you want to call it.

My annual nausea-laden era.

This whole nauseous all the time thing sucks. Isn't three months enough? WHY CAN'T YOU GO AWAY?!

And don't tell me it's morning sickness.

I will kick your butt.

That's what the doctor said like 4 years ago.

And there have been no children.

So HA!

Just more nausea. Every year. Same time.

This is getting old fast.

And with it so am I.

Well, with that and grad school.

The chick got back to me today - after I called her and re-sent the e-mail from two different accounts.

She got them both.

This time.

And got back to me, so that's awesome.

What's not awesome is that now I have to write the paper, that I was so gladly putting off because she had yet to get back to me.

Now it's inevitable.

And I really need to finish it.

I started out tonight with such great intentions, really. Got all my stuff out, made supper, turned on some TV to watch while I ate.

THEN Carter fell asleep on my lap.

And you know, how can I disturb that?

So I kept watching, cause he was cute and cuddly and you know, not biting me.

Then I kept watching some more, but it was good cause now I'm finally caught up on NCIS.

Dude?! That 200th episode? I screamed on so many occasions that I'm surprised my neighbors didn't bust in! Freakin' Kate and Jenny, Fornell just made me laugh, and of course Franks, but Ari?!?! Dude. I wanted Gibbs to punch him.

I do have to question the whole Tony and Kate angle though, I thought they were more siblings and she was into Gibbs. Or that's how it seemed the first season.

I'm really curious how they filmed that as she doesn't look like Kate anymore with the blonde highlights. Medical Examiner in Boston. Or if they filmed it at all, technically that's the same outfit she wore in the plague episode. Did I mention I was a fan? Hmmm...

Then the most recent episode with the return of the elusive Wendy. I'm intrigued.

What was I saying?

Oh right, yes I wanted to be productive and I tried really hard, but then my cat fell asleep on me and it all went to crap.

Sorry.

I'll finish it tomorrow. I'm only 12-6, plus some minor errands.

Saturday is the Barnes and Noble Paperback Buy with the TAB kids, that should be interesting, but other than that I have the whole day so if it's not done by Friday night it'll be done by Saturday night. And posted by at least Sunday as that's a full-fledge day of family fun.

Or at least half-day, I still have no idea what or if we're doing anything for my birthday.

It's not a big deal as I don't really celebrate them, so I'm not gonna plan anything.

Just go with the flow, see if anyone wants to do anything on Monday. Since I have it OFF!

I love City Holidays, they rock.

Okay, songs for the night:

"Somebody to Love" Jefferson Airplane

i'm sorry, is she singing into a plug?

"Trouble" Pink

oh my god, jeremy renner in eye makeup. before he hit it big-time, that's nice.

"Big Girls Don't Cry" Franki Valli and the Four Seasons

i wonder why. especially with those moves and that unnaturally high voice.

What else before I crash and burn...

Today was good, Slim Shady took me out for lunch for my birthday. Jammed out there for a while. Was a good changeup from my usual soup and sandwich.

Worked on some Summer Reading Event stuff after that, plus I'm still working on my Hunger Games Read-Alike, if you have titles send them my way.

Though I have like 40. I'm weeding through and only keeping the good ones.

And the Spunky Old Ladies display is still rocking it on first floor. I'm quite proud of that one actually.

Alright, fading fast. Carter and I are out!

Why so serious?

Too tired to even stop for coffee this morning. But I made it through the morning shift, thankfully I have the afternoon off. Space Cadet said I was supposed to come home and take a nap.
And my paper's done and posted!!! I finished all the citation junk and uploaded it around midnight last night. Hooray! A weight has been lifted. As cliche as that sounds. Now I can take M&J to the derby and relax. Or as much relaxing as one can do at the roller derby.

Song for the day is "Raise Your Glass" originally by Pink - this is the Warblers version from Glee

Tomorrow means fun at the farmhouse plus movie night with a friend. It's a Sci-Fi flick so we said if it sucks we'll just sit in the back, do some snarky commentary and eat milk duds. I have a feeling there will be a few more, "at least the baby stopped crying" moments.

"So raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways...."

take these broken wings and learn to fly...

I love Tuesdays. Broken up day, go in in the morning, work for three hours then run errands, take a nap, clean more of the apartment, go back in to work then come home and crash. I'm diggin' in. Just thought I should mention it.
Tomorrow will be a longer day, 9-5 then a meeting with my boss's boss's boss. Serious stuff. With a few members of my class to talk about our selection policy and its history. Totally gonna look like comic relief. Again. In front of my boss's boss's boss. No pressure. But I get to see my friends at the other branch, who I feel like I haven't seen in forever even though it's only been since like Friday.
Yes, I'm a nerd. Deal.

I feel like I should post this since I'm on a Maroon 5 kick and I love Glee.

Diggin' the whole pounding the table thing. Was stoked to see them do Maroon 5. Is it me or are there different Warblers in every episode? Like I know the council. And that blonde one, I think his name is Ryker or something. And then the dude that does bass. But everyone else looks new to me, and far too similar to Blaine.
And I'm sorry but I totally love Mercedes' "Hell to the No" song. Was totally crackin' up the whole time. "Loser like Me" is cool as well.
And hooray for Pink! I totally screamed...big fan of that song.

And yes it is mandatory that I post this song. Because I love it.

We attempted it in high school but it wasn't as good as Kurt and these guys' version. Yay Beatles.
And all I can think of when I see Kurt in this outfit is Johnny Cash as the Man in Black. I'll spare you the spouting of "Cocaine Blues" lyrics. Probably not appropriate anyway. The benefits of older parents is growing up listening to artists like Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, etc.

Speaking of childhood music, here's a favorite:

1983 John Anderson's "Swingin'" was kind of a family song. Ask the older sisters. Pretty sure we have some interesting/embarrassing/blackmail material recordings from them... "phone.....pie.....fry.....garden hose...."
