Facebook newsfeed makes me feel like such a stalker.

Facebook newsfeed makes me feel like such a stalker.

She got married?!

He's going back to school?!

She's pregnant?!

Wait, his kid is how old?!

And then it makes me feel old because all of these people are either my age or younger.

Smo is sleeping on my couch - well, studying on my couch - so I'm yelling it all at her but she didn't know either. So I don't feel completely out of the loop, though I have been swamped lately.

First day back at work after being gone for a week and a half. Always hard to go back, but it's worth it.

Today was good, dredged through my 150 missed emails and like 30 incident reports all for stolen items - good god seriously? - updated the TAB website, sent out instructions on volunteer application process - cause it was inconsistent and I'm sick of it - sorted through CD cases - joy and excitement. Tomorrow will be more of the same.

After work went out to see the boyfriend. Pizza Hut for supper and then out to the lake.

What has come to be known as "our spot" is usually relaxing but tonight the teenagers were having a party and blasting really crappy music. We could hear it loud and clear even though they were at the other end of the lake. We were tempted to call the cops just to tell them to play better music but we held off.

I should also mention you can only get to "our spot" by climbing over about 20 giant rocks that move when you step on them. And apparently I'm not the agile farm girl who once climbed to the top of the quonset anymore.

If you don't know what a quonset is it's basically like a giant round building in which you keep your farm equipment such as tractors and combines. Go here

Anyway, it's big.

But snow had drifted against it and I thought, hey I can climb that. So I did.

Mom freaked. Dad got the camera.

One of many defining parental moments.

Other than the crappy music the night was good. Watched some PopUp video on VHS, ran into an old friend at Walmart, showed him the Rebel Wilson and Independence Day videos posted here this week.

Calling it a victory.

On to the music.

Had two songs stuck in my head all day. The second I listened to at lunch so there was reason for that one but the first....no reason to be in my head whatsoever.

The White Stuff by Weird Al.

Which I refuse to post because I hate that song.

But I will post the second.

The Sheik of Araby - The Beatles

lesser known of their songs, but good nonetheless. according to wikipedia the Beatles covered this song in 1962 at their unsuccessful Decca audition with George Harrison as the lead singer and Pete Best on the drums.

interesting.

and that's what everyone's talking about.

So I was so excited because at about 5:59 I realized that tonight I had absolutely nothing planned.

The first night in forever that it was just me and my cat and I didn't have to freak about homework or cleaning.

I didn't even know what to do with myself.

I debated watching my DVR'd stuff, cause it's building up. Like NCIS I'm 5 behind, the Closer I still haven't made it anywhere near the end. Even 2 Broke Girls I'm missing.

I think the only show I've kept up with is Castle. And that's mostly because after I drive Squirt home for the night I hang there a while and we watch it there.

So, I decided instead to check Facebook. Because I've been told I need to put a picture up of the boyfriend or they will Facebook stalk me and find one.

Done.

But then I had all these other pictures that I hadn't even thought of posting cause they're on my phone, not my computer. Like 136 pictures, I forgot how long the new Facebook takes to upload things.

Like 2 hours later I'm finally done with it and ready to crash.

But they're awesome.

I'm thinking about making a "Best Of" album for high school and college. Camp. Old stuff.

Should be fun.

For the moment I'm gonna crash. We had the African American read-in today, news channel came and filmed it. It's weird that that's becoming normal. I'm small-town Nebraska and that never made the news.

Wait, I take it back, it did once when our cops went on strike. The mayor had a "do not pull over" list of people and they didn't like it. So they just stopped. Had to bring in the state troopers.

Anyway, there were a lot of readers and people watching and all that. Was super cool. One guy sang the African American national anthem.

Aside from that the usual running up the stairs 100 times. I should start wearing one of those things that counts your steps. A pedometer? Wore one once in college for a class. Ashley and I teamed up for a scavenger hunt for health class. Was awesome.

So, exhausted. Gonna need to start going to bed sooner. Which means I should start now.

Quotes of the week:
Girlscout: "That really skeeves me out."
Boss's Boss's Boss and I were very intrigued by this term and have decided to start using it.

Me: "She says she didn't get my e-mail. Maybe it went to her spam folder."
Trainee: "Did you title it 20% Viagra?"
Me: "Yes! Maybe that's why it didn't show up."
we keep getting all these spam emails, it's amusing but annoying.

"Girlfriend" Avril Lavigne

love the video, it still cracks me up.

though, now when i hear the song, all i can sing is this version

"Mash-up Girlfriend" DJ Lobsterdust

UNK vs Avril Lavigne vs Toni Basil

I held my nose, I closed my eyes...

Well, it's official.

I've started the dreaded Facebook weed.

Which sounds like some sort of techy drug reference, but it's actually just me going through my friends list and deleting people.

There are far too many of them on there that when there's a status update on the newsfeed or a birthday I'm like, um who are you again?

It doesn't help that most of my female friends from college are now all married with different last names.

So I went through for the first time - it took FOREVER - but I'm down from 613 to 444.

Which is still a ridiculous number of friends, I know.

But I've had the thing since Junior year of high school. And that was like back in 2005.

And all through college you just added people if you were doing a project together.

Nobody checked their e-mail, it was all through Facebook. Welcome to college.

So there's this build up of people that I had one class with years ago and I have no recollection of their face or the project we worked on together.

Figured it was about time.

If you are one of those people and you actually read this send me a message and I'll fix it.

I figured a year was a safe amount of time.

If I haven't talked to you in a year am I really going to in the future?

I did keep all my high school friends, a few college ones, and all my work ones.

They have to put up with me on a daily basis, if they still want to be friends outside of work I gotta give them props for that.

So, I think I'm getting sick.

Or getting over being sick.

Guess that depends on tomorrow.

I was weak all day, only wandering out into the wilderness once and that's cause I'm out of pop. And being out of pop is like hard-core suffering more than anything else.

I have a serious caffeine addiction, should work on that.

Anyway, I had to talk the boyfriend out of coming to see me.

He's sweet like that.

Cause I don't want to get people sick, if in fact I am sick.

It's going around work.

And apparently - according to Dr. Oz - it can take up to 20 days to have an effect. affect? effect? affect?

I could never keep those straight. It's like who and whom. I always feel like a dorky snob if I use the word "whom" even if it is the correct usage.

Can you be a dorky snob?

Is that kind of an oxymoron?

Yeah.

Guess tomorrow determines all. If I can stand up straight without feeling like I'm going to pass out and I don't have a fever - unlike the last time when I had to call in - then I'm gold.

Anyway, that was basically my day. Slept in, watched NCIS:LA, bought pop, laid on the couch with my big fat cat now am deleting friends.

Cause you can only watch NCIS:LA for so many hours before you're sick of it.

Not a fantastic day off. But that's actually not uncommon, for some reason this past year almost all of my days off have been spent sick on the couch. Wonder what shrinks would have to say about that.

Memory Monday

couple twists on an original, then just an original original, cause that one's unbeatable.

"Love Potion No. 9" The Searchers

classic.

"Shake, Rattle And Roll" Elvis Presley

we actually sang flip flop fly my junior year of high school for krt. choreography included.

"Pretty Woman" Roy Orbison

the "pretty woman" they keep flashing to doesn't look so enthused to be there. sorry Roy, doesn't look like she's going to be walking back to you.

Think I'll eat some ice cream, cause I got some of that today along with Swamp People season one for dad, then crash and burn.

Something tells me I'm into something good...

Dear Facebook,

Why must you constantly evolve? Don't you know how much people hate change? Your changes to be exact?

I feel like I should give you a heads up on where this came from before I go into the ramble-zone. Dangerous territory.

Oldest Sister called and we talked Facebook. Right after Second Sister called and we had also talked about Facebook.

But it was Oldest Sister's conversation that brings the joy of Facebook into this post.

Okay, so I love Facebook. I was the first one to have it in high school and share it with everyone else. Blame Katie Jo, she invited me. And I got all my family on and involved and all that so they blame me. We have a page for Camp J and it's fantastic for getting information out to people. It's fun and it's an excellent form of communication for projects and presentations.

But, the thing about the new Facebook is that you know everything about everybody you're friends with. Because it feeds you information about them. All the time. Second-by-second status updates are on your homepage. It's constantly recommending things and wanting you to update your friendships. Are you close friends or aquaintances? Do you want to put them into their own specific friend group? Here, chat with this person, they're online!

This is where Oldest Sister's conversation comes in. We enjoy a hint of mystery. We don't want to know everything about everyone. Especially certain people. Just because we're friends with them on Facebook doesn't mean we're actually friends with them in real life.

We would enjoy a bit of Shrodinger's Cat in that situation. Maybe they're alive and kicking, or maybe they're dead in a box in the corner. And we're okay with the not knowing. But then we get a status update on the side of OUR homepage proving that the chemical still hasn't gone off and they're alive and well. And frankly, that was not the option we would have chosen.

Okay, that sounds really bad. Does anyone else know Shrodinger's Cat? I mean, from something other than simply watching Big Bang Theory? If you have no idea to what concept I'm referring to watch this:
Big Bang Theory - Sheldon compares Leonard and Penny's Relationship to Schrodinger's Cat
He explains it pretty well.

Anyway, we like that element of mystery. We don't want to be overloaded with peoples' personal information. Sometimes we just don't want to be social, period. So stop with all the oversharing.

I'm having flashbacks to the original Facebook. See, I've had it so long that I actually remember a time when there was no newsfeed whatsoever. Yeah! You had to actually go to someone's profile page to see what they were up to! I remember when newsfeed first came around and everyone hated it. "I don't need to know that Jimmy's favorite color is yellow!" was a post I read quite frequently. But eventually it turned out okay. So maybe these will eventually. But at the moment, do I really need up-to-the-second updates on people who like other people's wall posts? When I have no idea who those other people are?
My main problem is that I have over 600 friends. But that's what happens when you go to college and Facebook is your main way of communication. Who actually checked their college email? Anyway, you add someone as a friend if you have a presentation or a project with them because then you can get in touch with them. But then class ends and you move on. And you're still friends. And it just adds up.

Add to the fact that most of those projects/presentations happened more than 4 years ago and half of the girls I knew in college are now married with different last names... It's like, every time I go to my home page and see all these birthdays I'm like "Who the crap is that?!" then I have to go to their page and I don't recognize their picture. Like I said, 1 class, 4 years ago. Messes with my brain. "I should know you but I don't." So I leave it as it is, thinking that I'll figure it out eventually.

So, my plan is, sometime within the next few weeks, to weed through who I actually know and I actually don't. If you are someone that I haven't spoken to in more than a year but read this thing then let me know and I won't delete you.

Anyway, after Shrodinger's Cat came the
Things We'd Actually Like To See Added to Facebook conversation.
1. A "Bitchslap" Button. You know, instead of poking them. I've had this conversation on multiple occasions. It's not like the other person would have to know they've been bitchslapped, but having it there to push can give you a nice piece of sanity and humor.
2. A "Not in a Million Freakin' Years" option when you see someone you're not on such good terms with in the People You May Know section.

there are more but I won't repeat them. if you can think of more that are repeatable send them my way.

Song of the night: I'm only giving you one tonight because I think it's freaking fantastic and love it so much that it's worth two recommendations instead of one. So yes, actually listen to this one. It's worth it.

love love love this song. every version. but this one especially.

"I'm Into Something Good" The Bird and The Bee

Oldest Sister: "Is there someone in your apartment?"
Me: "It's called music."
she heard the whistling. i should have called "Shrodinger's Cat" and left her wondering. think i'll make that my new thing. calling it at random occasions. sounds fun.

Okay, I apologize if by reading the title of this post you were expecting that it was actually going to be about something good. I'll work on that for the future.

that's all she wrote!

She said I love the way you think but I hate the way you act.

I was totally productive today. I'm proud of myself. You would be too. Cleaned my room - like officially unpacked. I've lived here over a year now, it was time. But the boxes are gone, stuff is put away in the closet, posters are on the wall, stuff is shredded and in the trash - all while I listened to my audio book for class. Ha! Multi-tasking. I'm on disc 9 out of 14 so it was good day.
Except for the bookdrop thing. I'm all for bookdrops. I love them. They're easy and awesome, until you have to climb in one. I just felt like showering all morning. But we had so much stuff since we were closed for two days and it was overflowing. Blah. Lots and lots of checking in. But I just shelved - huzzah! And I actually shelved everything before noon so that was exciting. Then came back here intending to shower and nap but instead listening to my book and deciding it was time to unpack. I worked hard today. And actually feel a sense of accomplishment. So huzzah! to that.

But yeah, disc 9 of 14 on book #7. I'm thinking of burning the rest of them on my computer and uploading them to my ipod so I can listen on the go. A decent book so far, it's pretty intriguing but I still wish I could get through it faster so I can figure out what's really going on. There's a lot of backstory, so there's more things revealed in every chapter. I have to finish it just to figure out what everything means! I actually got this for a decent price off Amazon but a bunch of my classmates got it for free on some trial thing on there. Totally jealous. Anyway, tomorrow I need to go shopping, so then I can multitask as well if it's on my ipod. I need pop, cat food, human food, light bulbs, and more pop. I'm hoping that writing these down - well, putting these out there - will help me to remember what I need. But of course I'll forget.

Okay, one more thing, I think Facebook needs a "poke all" button. Just because so many people freaking poke me - it's a poke war basically - and it takes forever to hit "poke back". It'd be nice to just hit one button and be done.

"No Such Thing"

my favorite of his songs, other than "Daughter"

"Always" Rilo Kiley

although the song doesn't really start start until like 1:48, not sure why the intro is so long. kind of annoying. i always find myself skipping ahead. so that's my advice to you. if you actually listen to the song, skip ahead to around 1:40. from then on, awesomeness.

and since that one had a late start and was more like a half I'll hit you with another.
"Steal My Kisses" Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals

another late start, skip to 0:40.

out!
