Now Rhonda has no Honda - Camp J Highlights 2013

For past years highlights go here: 20112012

Day One: Thursday

-God-breathed car driving manuals
:: It's never a good thing when driving to close your eyes and swerve when a car is coming at you on a gravel road. In fact I'm pretty sure it says that in all of the car driving manuals. And if it doesn't then it should somewhere. I'm sure God would say it. So it should be in car driving manuals. Like God-breathed scripture but this time it's God-breathed car driving manuals. Don't worry, it wasn't me driving. Just in the passenger seat grabbing the door handle and screaming like a girl.

-Space Cadet Tent
:: So every year Jim O and I sleep in tents. Mostly cause there's no room in the cabins but also because we get to set our own bedtimes and don't have to worry about tiny children. We set up our tents next to each other - this year right next to the campers - and spend about an hour each night venting and joking around until we fall asleep. After using the same tent for more than 10 years he got a new one this year.  It looks like something NASA would use on the moon and took almost an hour to set up by itself. Mostly cause we weren't going off the instructions, but still! Anyway, the whole time we're setting up I'm thinking about all the bugs in the trees right next to us and started yelling about ticks. He says ticks can't fly so they wouldn't be in trees, when I said they could climb he went oh, yeah.

-Rubber Bandit
:: An awesome name for a super villain came up with after attempting to use "rubber band" as a verb.

Day Two: Friday

-French Toast
:: Huzzah for French Toast. Same breakfast every year along with about 5 cups of coffee within a 2 hour period. But at least I was conscious for the mandatory meeting and registration. Which went well, though apparently 10:30 actually means 11 in counselor terms. For the second year in a row, maybe we should just move it back. But then they'll show up at 11:30.

-The Theme Song
:: Mentor wrote the theme song again as she does every year. This year's was a little different though because the verses don't rhyme but they caught on fairly quickly. By teen camp I had the whole thing memorized and I'm sure I'll be singing it while working just like I do every year for the two weeks following camp. Along with The Bear Song and HeeHaw.

-And Rhonda has no Honda
:: Campfire was my saving grace, as it is every year. No matter how stressful camp can be campfire always redeems it. Our male leader for skits and worship gets really into it, especially There's a Hole in the Bucket, along with the rest of the band. We kept renaming ourselves, but "Destiny's Step-Child" was the clear frontrunner. Though none of the kids understood it since they only know of Beyonce as Beyonce and haven't heard of Destiny's Child. Which makes me cry inside. Anyway, we sang our Pharaoh Pharaohs and King Jesus is All, and Mentor came down to help lead Flea and Pizza and all was well. We had two kingdom workers who came and helped out this year and taught the kids some new stuff. Stupid Rhonda and her crashed Honda were stuck in my head for the rest of camp. I literally fell over when they said that line and my teen helper had to check on me to make sure I was okay.

Day Three: Saturday

-"Does it say 'Blazer' on the back? Cause I don't know what one looks like."
:: Girls and cars.

-The Vote
:: I wasn't aware that even though I'm in charge of skits I have to get them approved before the kids perform them for their parents. Apparently I need to take a vote first because my skits are stupid. Even though I've never had complaints in the what? like 12 years that I've been doing them. So, youth camp sucked. Which is why there are virtually no highlights whatsoever and the blame for that lies entirely on one individual gunning for my job. Which she will get when she pulls this laptop from my cold dead hands. It is literally my favorite time of year and she killed it. Plain and simple. She didn't like HeeHaw and tried to sway my kids - IN THE MIDDLE OF MY SESSION - against it. Like, I'm handing out the lyrics and she comes up and says that's not a skit, here's a skit. The irony is that she recited a skit I'd already done with them two years ago, so apparently not all of my skits suck. Just the ones she doesn't like. Why she did it then IN THE MIDDLE OF MY SESSION still confuses me because she'd already pointed out that she hated it before camp started and knew I wasn't going to change it so what was the purpose of interrupting me in front of my kids other than to make me look bad? But that's okay, just gives me motivation to find skits she hates even more for next year.

I still don't know what I did to deserve the hostility as she didn't just criticize that but also everything else I was in charge of this year. Not saying anything negative to mentor about her song, Cheri about her crafts, Jayne about her cooking, Pastor about his bible studies or Steve about his games. Nope, just me. It's okay though because for once I stood up for myself. And I had Pastor and Jim there to back me up. We'll see what happens next year.

-"Boobs in Training"
:: One of the girl counselors is a friend of mine and since Megan couldn't make it this year she went around on night patrol with me. Apparently all of her girls were excited about training bras which we don't understand cause they suck. And we're confused as to why they call them "training bras" in the first place. Are they like training your boobs for the race of their lives?

-Train Honks
:: So apparently, when trains come through towns they have to honk a certain way. Like in a certain pattern. Weirdly enough I learned this at camp, not from growing up in a train-filled household or from dating a traingeek boyfriend. Remember how we were camped in tents and can hear everything? Including whoever it was that kept walking by our tents but we ignored them and continued to joke around cause we're goofy like that. Anyway, train honks were one of the many things that kept us up at night, along with owls, crickets, air conditioners attached to campers, stupid happy birds and one particularly loud toad which we were convinced was actually a moose.

Day Four: Sunday

-Out of the mouths of babes
:: One of my favorite quotes this year came from a young camper to a teenage counselor. The teen was putting on makeup when the kid came up to her and asked what she was doing. When the teen said she was putting on makeup so that she would look pretty the kid asked, "do you think it's working?"

-And that's what makes it all worth it.
:: So, try as she may to sway my kids and their parents they still had fun with HeeHaw, especially screaming and spitting in each others' faces during the last refrain. Even though it's tradition and I'd like to keep it going if it's going to cause this much drama I'll replace it with something else. I'm sure she'll find a problem with that as well, but hey, she'll just have to get used to it cause I'm a camp lifer and that won't be changing anytime soon.

-Damnit, Rhonda and your stupid Honda
:: Get out of my head. I don't need to be singing about you in the grocery store or in the car or anywhere else. It's amusing because I always lay out the outlines for these camp posts on my phone as they go and on each of the days somewhere "damnit rhonda" was written.

-Let's get pigs feet.
:: Umm, let's not and say we did. Grocery shopping with Jim is always an adventure. We buy far too much and always find things that weren't on our list. Like toys. And ice cream - though that was on our list this year, just not this much of it. I have two gallons in my freezer. Huzzah for mint chip! Anyway, we went grocery shopping two times Sunday, three times Monday and then once again on Tuesday. Plus our Thursday night adventure to get props. Walmart and Rays love us.

-Stray Dog
:: Every year we place bets as to what time our teen camp pastor will arrive. Scuba Steve won this round I believe. Anyway, we thought he was there a lot earlier than he got there because we saw a dog running around and he always has his dogs. This one, however, had bloody paws and when we looked around Pastor was nowhere in sight. Since the teen campers love dogs they cleaned her up, gave him a makeshift collar and a leash and we called animal control. Who wouldn't come get her cause we were outside of city limits. The campground managers called in a favor and a few minutes later the county sheriff's car showed up to pick her up. Ah, memories from the last time that sheriff's car had a dog in it at camp and we were up all night ranting about happy birds.

-Thomas Edison = Earthy cause he's in the ground
:: Gotta play Apples to Apples. Not as fun without Noel but I had my sister and Scuba Steve who picked the right cards. We could always tell who played what card though because of the references made. Scuba Steve played Thomas Edison for earthy and my sister picked it as the winner. I found it highly entertaining. Though it didn't work for me during the next game when I tried Beethoven for the same category and it got rejected for something actually earthy.

-Crapsuck Campfire
:: Any campfire where you can't see anything just spells disaster. So, the teens couldn't see the songbooks and they couldn't see us and we couldn't see our music books and it was just a disaster that ended with a horrible horrible offkey version of Someday. It's only redeeming grace was when Thomas screwed up the lyrics to There's a Hole in the Bucket so the women actually won it. I said it would have to go down in history cause I'm pretty sure we will never win again. Though we did say at little kid's camp - in order not to have to sing it two nights in a row - that we broke down and bought them a new bucket. Though apparently they drilled a hole in it just so we could sing it again at teen camp.

-Pitch Perfect
:: Every year we show movies on the wall. This year instead of our usual cheesy space movie (though we skipped it last year as well) we watched Pitch Perfect for night one. Had a huge crowd all singing along with the music. Pastor had never seen it before and was laughing at Fat Amy. But who doesn't laugh at Rebel Wilson? If you haven't you should really watch this video:

"yeah and so will the cops!" She's highly entertaining.

Day Five: Monday

-Bug Zapper Lightsabers
:: Jim is smart enough to keep me away from sharp metal objects so my job in the kitchen is to kill flies and do dishes. This year Oldest Sister took care of the dishes so I just got the flies. Which is fine with me. In preparation for this big role I bought giant bug zappers and batteries to go with them. Michael and I were using them like lightsabers. I killed 23 on Monday alone.

-Stolen Phone Texting
:: Mean kitchen staff stole my phone and sent my boyfriend a mushy text. Pretty sure he knew it wasn't me cause we don't talk like that, but that didn't stop me from being paranoid about his response. And since I only had signal every other ten feet I was constantly checking it wherever I went.

-That's what a campfire is supposed to sound like!
:: I get really into campfires, actually all of Destiny's Step-Child does, but teen camps are even more fun than youth camp at times because the teens get super loud and dancy. I enjoy all their impromptu motions and some even get added permanently. Monday night's campfire was much better - mostly cause we were indoors and could see - but also because they really got into it and Someday was actually on key.

-Neville for the win!
:: Night two for movie night was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. We had to change it up a bit, don't remember where the idea for Harry Potter came up but it did and I think that was the biggest crowd we've ever had to movie night. We were going to watch the second one the next night but that got overruled.

Day Six: Tuesday

-The slow clap
:: Tuesday is bowling day at teen camp. All the leaders usually bowl together though this year Scuba Steve got sick and napped instead. Each year we bring out the slow clap and it always either leads to a spare or a gutterball. Game number one I got a 105 but game number two was horrible, I bowled like an 80. Not sure what happened between games but whatever skill I developed seemed to disappear. But I only go bowling once a year - at camp - so maybe if I attempted to practice somewhere else I could figure out what the problem was.

-Pizza Pizza
:: After bowling we always get them pizza. We've been going back and forth from Pizza Hut to Walmart pizza. This year Jim was so tired we just went with Pizza Hut then used the boxes to start our campfire after. 34 teens + 6 adults = 10 pizzas plus 3 boxes of cheese sticks.

Add to that the pop and ice cream and they loved it.

-Dance Off
:: Every year the teens have a dance, whether it's organized or impromptu. This year's was a bit more organized than before cause they actually moved the tables AND they used their phones instead of my computer so it was much easier on me. Taylor and I took pictures so that we wouldn't have to dance. See how that works? We made them each do their best moves, they had some good ones.

-Jack the Frog King
:: Found the father of all frogs this year at camp. Compared to my shoe he was huge!

Granted I only wear size 8's but he was still huge. He sat completely still for hours, we think because of the owl we could hear in the trees cause he was gone the next morning. No one would believe me until I took them to him. Then they all screamed. We thought he might be fake until someone threw a stick and he moved.

-"How long does it take to get into my own house?"
:: We watched Gladiator for movie night number three. Though it was an accident, well not really. Pastor wanted to watch Braveheart so the other pastor went to Walmart and found a Braveheart/Gladiator combo. But then Gladiator got more votes we rebelled and watched it instead. I fell asleep, missing the last half an hour. I jumped from him agreeing to talk to the senator to him dead on the ground so I had to watch the rest when I got back.

Day Seven: Wednesday

-Clean up, clean up, everybody everywhere
:: Packing up the trailer and all of our junk seemed to take a lot longer this year. Though that's weird because we had even more kids to help. I think we had even more than previous years cause it barely fit in the trailer and then poor Jim's truck was completely overflowing with the rest of it.

-Rock and Roll McDonalds
:: As is tradition we stopped at McDonalds on the way back, though there were more of us than usual. It's always Scuba Steve, myself and Jim though this year Steve left early cause he was sick. Last year Michael joined our gang and this year he rejoined us along with Taylor, Dylan and Pastor with three of his kids. Usually we're all dead tired and say maybe 20 words, this year we were much louder. Michael did a calorie count and actually beat Steve's record from last year. But I guess that happens when you order 3 burgers, fries and mcnuggets.

And that was camp. As is tradition I will post the skits tomorrow.

For now I'm out. Hope you had a good week.

Tuesday, July 2, 2013

Thought he was gluten-free but all that I got was bread.

Kind of a rough day.

Getting only four hours of sleep didn't help things.

Add to that the fact that I felt like crap so I was pretty much a walking zombie.

Superwoman kept trying to send me home.

I would have called in sick but I had a volunteer coming in for training in the morning and I didn't want to dump that on some poor unsuspecting soul.

And then I realized that the Book Board Game event is TOMORROW and full on panic set in.

Similar to Library Golf but not as extreme.

As that was kind of an extreme event.

This is more laid back.

And I'm thinking like 10 people will attend, which is fine by me.

I almost finished my example today.

By "almost" I mean my comrade and I had fun coming up with game spaces for Harry Potter and finding online pictures to cut out and use as game pieces.

And then an hour and a half later the board was completed.

Now I have to do the currency and cards.

Though instead of chance and community chest I'm going with:
Portkey - cause you're going to be moving either forward or backward depending on if you set a python loose on your cousin or you won the house cup,
and then Spells and Potions - which can lead to you loaning money to the person next to you while being under the imperious curse or getting money for saving your friends because of your clever use of gillyweed.

etc. etc.

It's Harry Potter-based if you couldn't figure that out by yourselves.

I'm having far too much fun with this assignment.

Which makes up for the current assignment I'm taking a break from.

Ugh.

I hate takehome tests.

Especially when they're not actually tests but more like 3 term papers combined into one that's due Friday.

Ugh.

I have two of the three done, now all that's left is the first one. Which should be the easiest but seems to be the hardest.

As is true for most grad school assignments for the perfectionists out there.

But I have to do them tonight because tomorrow is the 3rd and then it's the 4th and those days will involve traveling and fireworks and therefore no homework will be done.

And I don't want to put it all off until Friday night - even though it isn't due until midnight.

Cause that would be irresponsible librarianship.

Or so I'm told.

Is that even a word?

I'm making it one.

Anyway, sadly the homework and board game weren't the most stressful part of today, it was actually that whole future thing that I avoid.

Juwanna and I use to refer to it as the "f" word cause I hated thinking about it.

However, today I was confronted with it as I talked with Superwoman.

Basically the thing is that I work 40 hours a week.

And in the fall I need to do a 90 hour practicum.

At a location that's open the same time as the library I work at and is closed on the weekends.

So I'll have to use vacation time to do my practicum.

90 hours of it.

Which I do not have when you combine it with things like camp - which I will never ever give up, you'll have to pry that from my cold dead hands - and then comprehensive exams which I will also be taking in the fall.

Which again are NOT TESTS, they're papers! 4 of them, basically dissertations and I have a week to finish them.

So why they call them exams I will never know.

Okay, technically it does evaluate your knowledge of the subject, but still!

They should just rename it "the week from hell" as my classmates so lovingly refer to it.

And from now on I'm sure I will too.

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to do the practicum on Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons and make up for the missing 8 hours every week from mid-August through December 1st.

And I really don't want to be stuck working every Saturday to make up for it.

A girl needs her sanity where she can get it and being tied to a desk is not one of such places.

Anyway, the stress from all that made me overreact to stupid stuff and now I'm all headspace.

Which makes writing these papers even more difficult.

I'm thinking about quitting for the night and finishing question number one on Friday night.

Give me some time to think and confer with people about ideas.

Cause I'm stuck.

Yeah, let's go with that.

Alright, music and I'm out.

Let's do the fork in the garbage disposal!

sorry, i needed that.

on to the real music:

Acapella - Karmin (acoustic version)

yes, i know i posted the lyric video already, go here: You and me are through though, watch me hit it solo, I'mma do it acapella. but i really like the acoustic too.

looking forward to the real video that I assume will come out soon since the song is gonna be released end of this week.

huzzah for awesome nebraskans.

legitimate pre-midnight post, holy crap tag in use.

Sunday, June 3, 2012

Vader is coming. Look busy.

Or so my t-shirt says.

I like my fun shirts.

I find them humorous.

Anecdotal even.

And I sort of collect them.

And pens.

Random, I'm aware. But I'm a writer. And I use them as story references. Brands and places and all that.

It's amazing what can bring inspiration when you're in the darkest of writer's block holes.

We saw Snow White and the Huntsman tonight.

But, I can't take Kristen Stewart seriously, so I kept cracking up at all the serious stuff.

And then Squirt started cracking up. And pretty sure Oldest Sister was like, what are you doing? I'm watching a movie here.

But I couldn't help it!

"Use me as your weapon" and something about iron melting, I couldn't do it.

Though I will give it a 5/10 on the Scale of Awesome purely for Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth.

Cause they rock.

Though not exactly faithful to the original fairy tale. Missed the whole red-hot iron shoes dance 'til your dead thing.

I have a weird sort of thing for original fairy tales. Charles Perrault's mostly.

Anyway, it kept me intrigued so it wasn't all bad.

Though Squirt says it seemed like I cheered when she was cursed.

Is it bad to root for the even witch?

I mean, I played one in high school.

No, I wasn't an evil witch, I actually played one in high school. One Act, senior year we did "Briar Rose" I was the 13th Fairy, aka Maleficent. And I was pissed cause I got passed over for godmother.

So I got to yell lines while being completely surrounded by a human forest. And knitting a babysweater.

You know how hard it is to knit a babysweater when you don't know what you're doing and you can't look down at what you're doing cause you have to project your voice to the audience?

It ended up as a square. That wasn't really a square. Purple. With big holes. So I gave it to SuperHumann for Christmas. She was the director. I think she found it amusing.

Anyway, Snow White, it wasn't awful, though I don't think I'll watch it again.

I kept waiting for Thor to reach for his hammer, or Charlize Theron to whip out a gun and go all serial killer on them.

She did get an Oscar for that. She's got the evil thing down.

Speaking of evil things, dude. Chuck season five.

Finished it.

Hated it.

You can't end it like that?!?! Where the heck did that storyline come from? Seriously?!

That just ticks me off.

There's a reason I don't like watching the ends of my favorite series', they always go to crap. Women's Murder Club, Charmed, Gilmore Girls, Will and Grace, Cashmere Mafia, there's never been a "goes out in peace" kind of thing. I mean, they go out, in maybe what the writers think is peace, or they get cancelled and there's no peace. But there's never really peace for fans.

Especially with that one.

My boyfriend says I watch too much TV.

Maybe he's right. But really, when you work public service for 8 hours and then you come home, how else are you supposed to relax, really? I mean, I write a lot as well.

But as a late it's been nothing but camp and homework, so really, not as much TV watching.

It's only gonna get worse, I have homework assignments for both Tuesday and Thursday plus class again already on Saturday. I've got camp applications coming in by the bundle, I still gotta get in touch with Dallas about T-shirts and start lining up all that stuff.

I have some of the skits, but nothing in concrete as of yet. They're constantly changing and really aren't final until the time they're performed. I'm always getting different numbers for kids and then when they're there if they don't like it then we change stuff, it's a mess.

Plus I have two stories from a friend I'm in the middle of editing, I need to finish one and soon.

And the freakin' song book still isn't formatted and that's a major priority.

What was I saying? Oh yeah TV, I won't be watching as much in the coming month, if any at all. The homework assignments don't look too intense or awful, it's just that there's a lot of them, and no real break since it's a month straight instead of just once a month and an assignment every couple weeks.

Kinda like college again, and actually not sure how I'm going to handle taking three classes in the fall plus work 40 hours plus pull grad assistant duties.

A little nervous about that.

But it'll only be August-April. Maybe May.

I can handle that.

I think.

I hope.

Guess we'll see.

At least camp will be over with for the year. Well, it never officially ends cause there's always stuff to do, especially with the new website. Which reminds me I gotta send that dude and e-mail to talk to him about software.

AHHH!!

Gonna go nutso.

But the kickoff is over with. So that's a weight off my mind.

One day at a time. Or a week anyway.

This week the boyfriend comes back from California, yay, so seeing him is a big priority, and homework, and work-work, and some family stuff. Think I got it mapped out pretty well. And if I don't I'll make it up as I go along.

As of now I'm going to bed. At work all day tomorrow and then gotta do some massive homework so I'll be free for the rest of the week to hang out with the boyfriend. And attempt to go to my nephew's game as well. They keep dominating. First week they won 24-1, last week it was 25-0, I'm wondering about tomorrow's game.

And Squirt won all her volleyball games from the not-tournament. But I guess there's more upcoming, should be fun.

Songs of the day:

"You Got It" Roy Orbison

trippy.

"Wooly Bully" Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs

what's with the random chicks just standing there? i LOVE the voice crack at 2:01. awesome.

Tomorrow's Word of the Day: "Nimfadoro: an effeminate fellow, especially one who is well-dressed and popular with women."

should be a fun one.

though it reminds me of harry potter and tonks.

alright, out for the night.

These are the only ones of which the news has come to Harvard, And there may be many others but they haven’t been discovered

Due dates sneak up on you. Especially when you think you know them but have mixed them up with another assignment. Thank god for classmates who visit the library. Needless to say my plans for tonight were dashed. I'm off to bed after finding sources, coming up with an outline and drawing out my new floorplan. I'll finish it tomorrow. Due at midnight, plenty of time as I'm off at 8. Just have to write it out.

Long day tomorrow, 9-8, so I'm gonna crash.

OUT!

"Elements Song" Tom Lehrer

Daniel Radcliffe singing it on Graham Norton

Friday, August 12, 2011

She'll make her way.

Put batteries in my wand. Best flashlight ever!

"Do you want juice or are you a milk person?" I hate milk. It's gross. Watching the Warehouse pilot. Moving on.

Last year today was when Delayed...Reaction did all of our recording which reminds me that I need to work more on that song. Maybe it'll be finished by next year. Ha! It's not as easy when it's just me.

Saw Harry Potter 7 with the boys tonight. Was cool, worked 9-6, went to Applebees for hamburgers and then hit up the movie. Loved it. "Blow it up? Boom?" "Boom!" 3rd time was even better. I love it. But totally sad that it's over. Hope PotterMore is awesome as well. We talked comics - as we usually do - and are stoked for the new Batman and Avengers movies.

Now I'm totally stoked to sleep in tomorrow. Only working part of the day then going to see a movie with Oldest Sister and maybe getting food. Can't remember what we're going to see but we're going to see something. Oh! Cowboys and Aliens. Cause it looks awesome. It's like Indiana Jones meets Space Bond. Who's lost his memory.

Think I'll wear my Angry Birds t-shirt to work tomorrow. I love being an Aide.

Still haven't finished that freaking puzzle. I just have this weird feeling that Oldest Sister is gonna steal a piece while I'm at work give it to me for Christmas. Because that's totally what I would do if the situation was reversed. And she's more devious than me.

Songs of the day:

"Wonder" Natalie Merchant

i enjoy her as well, solo and 10,000 maniacs.

"One Fine Day"

one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite movies. not talking about the rosie odonnell show, i'm talking One Fine Day - Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney plus little Mae Whitman and Alex D. Linz.

totally starving. gonna eat the rest of that chicken tikka - that i didn't eat last night around 2. yes, small children sleep more than i do, you knew that already.

OUT!

10 points for Gryffindor!

Subtitle: Shenanigans ensued.

Theme of the day: "Put on some music, it'll make her look less crazy."

I learned a lot things today.

1. Everything tastes better when you're drinking it out of a funky glass from your cool aunt. For instance - we made Butterbeer today, which sounds disgusting, but it was surprisingly delightful.

2. Beware when filming your Smart Cousin while she sings karaoke. I threatened to play it at her wedding and she threatened my life. "I will murder you at my wedding. I'm not above that."

3. Voldemort could have thought of much better/safer options for his horcruxes. "Old dirty underwear in a dump. No one would look for that." "That would be the best horcrux ever."

4. Gryffindor is the best house. Seriously. I kicked ass in Harry Potter trivia today. I was actually the first of our group to be sorted. Mostly because the Smart One would yell out trivia and I would answer it or finish her quote and she would respond with "Ten points for Gryffindor!" She ended up in Slytherin - sidenote, we would not be surprised if she turns out to be the next dark lord. She kind of has it all planned out already. Anagram'd name included. Watch out PotterMore! My Vegan cousin + Justoooone were in Ravenclaw, and the Young One - aka the youngest of all the cousins together, not just this group of us - voluntarily chose Hufflepuff. He said he's bringing it back. When you think about it, who is from Hufflepuff even other than Cedric Diggory who doesn't come around until the 4th movie and Susan Bones...who gets mentioned during the sorting hat scene in the first movie. At least Ravenclaw has Luna and Cho.
It was a very HP day. Cool Aunt made themed cookies, we watched 7A until the end when we ran out of time and they did a fast/comedic summary, then we played HP 20 questions which is actually really fun and difficult cause it's not just people you're guessing it's objects and places included. Vegan cousin chose Mad Eye Moody's eyeball, and Smart one and me went back and forth for like half an hour with that as our top choice but we kept hypothesizing because we didn't have many questions left.
And we saw HP7B in 3D which was awesome. and ran into one of our tech guys from work which is ironic because when I went to see the 2D version he was coming out as I was going in and the same with this one. Out of all the theaters and days and showings...

5. I finally understand why our family is so crazy and gets thrown out of places. I mean, I already knew we were crazy, but now I understand why. When you get all of us together our energy like builds until we're just this endless ball of adrenaline. Seriously. Plus, there is usually some amount of alcohol at these family gatherings/reunions/dinner whatever's and that just adds to it until we get loud and obnoxious and they kick us out.

6. I feel like an awful granddaughter. I freakin' live in the same town as Grams and I don't make enough time to go over there. We went over today to see her and she was so happy and so surprised that she just kept telling us how happy she was. Like I was all emotional about that which hopefully she didn't notice but I feel like crap. Cause I should go over there more often. I lived with the woman for months for crying out loud. Then went back to school and it was like complete life change. I don't know how to explain it. Other than I should go over there more.

and speaking of - totally feels weird going back to a house you used to live in, letting yourself in with the code and seeing all the furniture/setup different. My cousin is taking up residence there now so we jammed out there for a while.

Decisions made today include:
We need to start a cousin band named "Marvin Gardens" and write themed songs about Monopoly. And then others about Harry Potter. We all play different instruments so we could make it work.
Cousin roadtrip - this is always mentioned and thought about but it never actually takes place. We used to go all over the place - Florida, California, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon... us girl cousins are thinking Vegas. Last time we were there we were too young to get the whole experience of it. Maybe for like a weekend. But like I said, always just an idea.

Soak Up The Sun - Sheryl Crow

"maybe I am crazy too."
one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite artists. and a good theme for the day as well. her greatest hits is definitely in the running for most listened to CD in my collection.

and with that i leave you. i'm not sure about my schedule for tomorrow, it's conflicting which isn't unusual. I'll probably just go to one branch in the morning even though I'm not scheduled to go until 11 and then go to the other at 12 because yeah, overlapping and unlike the Smart One I'm not talented enough to be in two places at once.

Sushi for lunch + Fajitas/Margaritas for Supper = Best Food Day Ever

Today was mass craziness/awesomeness.
9-11 as an LA2 plus 11-12 as an Aide, then sushi with Second Sister and her kiddos - I have so many freaking leftovers it's insane - then stopped by work ON MY DAY OFF CAUSE I'M CRAZY! to do some Food Drive stuff. It actually worked out well because I got to get skit material. Now I can have the inspiration that I keep putting off. After that it was cleaning my apartment - couch included, then jalapeno margaritas!! with the cousins, then they came and hung out for a while and now I'm off to bed.

Sushi was fun, we ordered far too much but that's usual. Gotta love those leftovers. They're best at 2AM. We also hit up the candyshop as well. Little KJ was excited about his gummy spiders and BekBek had her Hello Kitty marshmallow thing so they were all over it.

Cleaning was an expedition. Seriously. I want the place clean so when I come back from camp it won't be nightmare-esque. But I was vacuuming and I'm like I should vacuum the couch. And yeah, don't think anyone has ever done that to this couch before. And I got it from Grams house and yeah. Found some interesting stuff. Lots of pens and spare change and all that, also some post-its, a magnetic O - Grams had this magnet board thing with all the letters that you could spell stuff out with - and then some sort of knitting thing that actually belonged to my cousin who I saw tonight! So that worked out well. She lived with Grams after I lived with her and I knew it wasn't mine so... yeah. But now it's clean! As is my apartment. For now. We'll see how long that lasts with my cat.

I love my family. Seriously. They're fantastic. We hit up our favorite mexican place and got some jalapeno margaritas for the table! minus those under 21, talked about lots of movie/tv stuff and all that and tomorrow!! we're gonna go see Harry Potter 7B in 3D! Huzzah! Cause I love it. And the Cool Aunt and Justooooone haven't seen it yet. So that's tomorrow. and Justooooone has a cape. That they bought. So we'll see if he's gonna be brave enough to wear it.
And yeah, they came over for a while and we watched a bunch of youtube clips while they played with my big fat cat. Harry Potter Musical clips on youtube are awesome. Darren Criss as Harry Potter is amusing.
But I'm gonna work in the morning, we're gonna meet up after that and go see Grams then watch Harry Potter 7A and then go see Harry Potter 7B in 3D. sorry, that's funny to me. I love it! "I've always to use that spell!"

song for the night then I'm out:

The video seems more like someone's drug-addled visions put on tape. But whatever.

This song was one of the first songs I ever uploaded onto iTunes. However, I didn't know the title. It was filed under SONG THAT IS ALWAYS STUCK IN MY HEAD. I'm pretty sure it would have stayed filed that way until Arizona senior year when I finally got tired of not knowing the title and had to google the lyrics. We were down there for a basketball tournament - btw, there is such a town as Corn On The Cob, Arizona. We gave Smo crap for it. We were driving to their high school and suddenly she was like "Did that sign say Corn On The Cob 6 Miles?!" We were like you're imagining things. Are you on something? Who would name a town Corn on the Cob? Seriously? And yeah, on the way back we saw the sign and had to take pictures under it. Corn On The Cob, Arizona. I don't remember where I was going with this. Oh, right, iTunes. Yeah, had to google it cause it was driving me nuts. But we're good now.

out!

"I've always wanted to use that spell!"

Scale of Awesome says 10/10. Cause really, the end of an era demands a high rating. Plus it deserves it. I'll definitely go see it again. Professor McGonagall stole the show. Joking. But she was hilarious. Maggie Smith is awesome. This role and then her in First Wives Club are my favorites.

And honestly, I know this makes me a bad library person, I hadn't read the book beforehand but I loved going in blind because I didn't know how it ended or who killed who. I do like reading the book beforehand because then you're able to understand more about why the characters are doing the things they do but sometimes knowing everything just kills the movie.

We went to the 3PM showing, got there at 2 and read our magazines and all that. First in line so awesome seats. It wasn't as packed as it will probably be tonight. I was glad that there was humor in this one - not like overwhelming but still there - cause the last one was so dark all the time it was hard to watch.

It's sad that it's over. But alas, she's writing again.

After that - well before that was work 9-1, shelved everything there was to shelve, then hit up the movie after getting lunch and wandering barnes and noble. After the movie we ordered pizza and watched True Grit - "I'm a foolish old man who's been drawn into a wild goose chase by a harpy in trousers and a nincompoop!" hysterical another 10/10 - and Burlesque 7/10 - it's like Coyote Ugly but in Los Angeles instead of New York - We finally just turned off the Best of Match Game 9/10 because I have to work all day tomorrow.

So I'm out.

Choot 'em LizBet!

Wow. A day off. So this is what that feels like.
It was an awesome one, hung around the apartment, ate breakfast for lunch/dinner, watched a Harry Potter marathon. Carter and I jammed out and napped on the couch. Plus I did some writing. I've started on a new story and am thinking about linking it to one of my old ones that I'm stuck on.

Basically, the idea is to write a group of short stories or one long story about an apartment building. Not like the physical building but the people who live in it. Like one story will be about one apartment and the next will be about their neighbors and just move on and then somehow bring them together in the end. Maybe it'll be crap but it's just an idea. And I'm blaming it on Superwoman since the idea originated from all the "Exotic Dancers next door" jokes from when we went to see our friend's band play at a bar.
Go here for my favorite of their songs: My Life in Closed Captions: Can I Keep You - Some Assembly Required plus a list of a bunch of library goddess quotes. Ha!

Anyway, there were exotic dancers in the bar next door so we made jokes and it just makes me wonder about my neighbors. Maybe I do have exotic dancers next door. Cause really, what do you really know about your neighbors? I've talked to maybe one of them. And I've been here over a year.

I'm still debating if I want to link it to my old story. I mean, I could, cause they live in an apartment and it's a story all about them. So I could start on one about their neighbors. Maybe. I don't know. But it's kind of cool mapping out an apartment and deciding who lives in the building and what might be going on in their lives. Or maybe it'll be dumb. I'll keep you posted. I still have no idea how I'll bring them all together in the end. Maybe I'll burn the place down. No, that'd just be mean.

I'm watching Swamp People with Dad. It's sad, I'm hooked. What's more sad?...I've seen all the episodes on the DVR. Now I'm re-watching them. It's just so like just whoa. You know? Like, I could never do that. Ever. And I know that the show is ridiculous, but I still can't help but stare.

Music of the day:

when all else fails do the time warp again.

Glee does the Time Warp from Rocky Horror

and Damnit Janet

quits halfway thru but is still hysterical.
love the three in the background, almost as good as the original. janet....janet....janet....awesome.

Alright, gonna hit the sack soon since tomorrow's gonna be camp central. Forms, assignments, t-shirts and possibly cleaning out the trailer.

Thursday, July 7, 2011

that's your horoscope for today.

There's a dead bird in my parking lot. I'm too scared to go see if it's Jack. Is that a bad omen? The bird that rides home with you on your car turns up dead in your parking lot the next day? I mean, it can't be a good sign. What does that signify exactly? Maybe I should read my horoscope and see what it says.
"Thursday, Jul 7th, 2011 -- You reserve the right to be different today as spacey Uranus activates beautiful Venus in your 5th House of Romance. You aren't interested in being just like everyone else, so show off the twinkle in your eyes and enjoy the bounce in your step. Don't be afraid to move to the rhythm of music that no one but you can hear."
Well....that was helpful. Although I do dance, mostly while shelving, randomly.

"That's Your Horoscope For Today" Weird Al

Harry Potter version. Love it. Until the end prediction thing, creepy.

or here's another

awesome video, wish I was that talented.

So I did it. Wore the cowboy boots the whole day without tripping or falling. I was proud of myself. Oldes Sister showed up to work and took a pic then sent it to Second Sister so there's visual proof. Huzzah!

Went over to Oldest Sister's house for dinner, we watched Date Night and CaddyShack plus finally uploaded all my camp stuff. She made salmon. It was fantastic.

Now I'm gonna watch Warehouse 13 - watching the bloopers Laura Harris has one! Huzzah! But no matter who she plays she'll always be Jill to me. Look it up.

Tomorrow the maintenance people will hopefully be here to put up my curtains. Oldest Sister is gonna jam out here while I'm gone. Should be fun.

Alright, I'm outta here!

This is a week of my favorite things Day Four: Books

PREPARE FOR A MASSIVE POST and sadly I went through and cut a bunch of stuff...and it's still massive.
Birthday cake at a staff meeting, hooray my day is made!
Was going to head home tonight but the weather has changed my plans.
Looks like you're stuck with me for yet another favorites post.
Quote of the day comes from Sketch - "I want a bagel damn it can't you tell i'm hungry and yes it's lame but that's how you are when you're all whoooo." yeah, not gonna explain that one, other than to say it's not the bagel that she's talking about me being all whoooo over.

This time we'll go with books. Writing's in my blood, my grandpa's a published author (posthumous), my aunts have published books on teaching, and I just love to write. If I could it's what I would do all day...if I wasn't blocked, which I have been a lot lately. that's why you're stuck with me on here and not on physical pages.

So, since I'm a librarian and I'm around books all day I'm expanding my list from 5 favorites to 7 instead. The irony about being a librarian is that I haven't read a single one of these books since I started working there. It's like I'm around them all day the last thing I want to do when I go home is read a book. Which is kind of funny in a weird way.

Anyway, on with the list.
All-time favorites:
7. Harry Potter series - J.K. Rowling
Gotta say I started these before she was big time with the movies and everything and I was hooked. I read each of them in like a day, maybe hours. Mass hysteria but they were just soooo good. And so different from other books at the time which I think is why they became so popular. Aside from her writing style and her characters which are also fantastic. I was hooked.

6. When You Are Engulfed in Flames - David Sedaris
This might be the funniest book I've ever read. I read the entire thing at a craft show and there were many points at which I was physically laughing so loud that I needed to like step back and contain myself so the people around me didn't think I was some psycho just randomly laughing. Highly recommended if you like nonfiction.
"Itch in da scrubs, go giddit!"

5. The Book Thief - Marcus Zuzak
Read this one for an adolescent lit class in college and fell in love with it. It's narrated by Death which totally stuck out to me so you know everyone is going to die. Which is fine, until you meet the characters and want them to somehow just triumph and live forever. It's basically a German take on the whole nazi killing jews thing. And it follows the story of this little girl who's adopted into a German family. I think it was also cool to be reading it for a class and having that debate aspect where you could get others opinions on it too. Our class consensus was a thumbs up.

4. The Westing Game - Ellen Raskin
Another favorite from my childhood, we read this in 8th grade for an English class. I love it because it was the first murder mystery I ever read. So it all took off from there. I was hooked from page one and wanted to read it all the way through but we were supposed to read it in section so we could talk in class. I soooo wanted to know who did it!! And I've recommended it to many people over the years. Gotta love it.

3. The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
Yet another from that adolescent lit class and I think this was the class's favorite. I don't remember anybody not liking it (not like Twilight or Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, sorry ZH not so much for me) and I think it was the most fun I had in that class just because everyone loved it and wanted to talk about it. Although the Twilight love it or hate it debate was fun as well.
I've recommended this book to literally everyone who's asked for a recommendation. Which is a lot because I work in a library...two actually. And I'm stoked for the movie. But the problem with recommending it is that those that I recommend it to also read the next two which they love as well but I haven't yet since I started working soon after college. I know, I know. They're on my list.

2. Runaway Jury - John Grisham
I loved this book! I read this one summer during high school and couldn't put it down. So many twists and turns and the movie was great as well but it was totally different than the book since it was on guns instead of cigarettes. Soooo good! Totally recommend this one who likes fiction on like the court system or lawyers or just good vs. evil. It's fantastic.

1. Women's Murder Club series - James Patterson
"In margaritas veritas. I'm in." Big surprise here. Not really. Look at the tattoo to the right. Lindsay Boxer the detective, Cindy Thomas the reporter, Claire Washburn the ME and Jill Bernhardt the lawyer. All different crime aspects covered so when you put them all together and drown them in margaritas you get what we call the Women's Murder Club.
"So, this outfit have a name?"
..."We're sort of a murder club."
"Lindsay's deputized us."
"The margarita posse."
...."Homicide chicks. That's who we are. That's what we do."
The books that lead to the show...that got cut off too early but the books are still going so it's okay. Actually 10th Reunion comes out soon. If you look at my bookshelves one of the first thing you'll notice (aside from that they're organized yes i'm a librarian get over it) is that these are the only books with tabs in them. Cause I'm a nerd. And I can't really explain the tab system just that it's there and it helps me keep track because sometimes I'll just pick one up and start from a random tab and know exactly what's going on. I love them. I love them. And I love them. And yes, I always recommend James Patterson to anyone looking for a good mystery writer as well.

Books I've read for class and loved:
Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian - Sherman Alexie this was another adolescent lit class special and we all really liked it. It was really funny and the artwork was a nice touch along with the humor.
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen which is basically a rite of passage for an English major. Classic, I did a project on it for my final portfolio because I find her fascinating, yes I'm a nerd. But I loved doing it because I got to come up with musical playlists for each character and I even made a board game for the thing and what else, oh wrote updated versions of the scenes and all that stuff. So much fun. Also a good story, Pride Prejudice and Zombies...or the first half which is all I got finished before I started working.
Great Expectations - Charles Dickens another one for an English major this was for British Lit 2 or 3 I can't remember, I think I took them out of order, but I love this one just because of the crazy old lady who wears the wedding dress every day and acts like she's not crazy. Which she is. And I said that repeatedly in a presentation and everyone loved me. hahaha...another fun English presentation was on Mary Robinson.
Me: "She got paid to be a mistress, I love it!"
Dr. Ashby: "You know, there's a word for that..."
Class: "Ohhhhh!!!"
The Illiad and the Odessey - Homer Thurber class and really, reading anything with Thurber was great because even if you didn't like the book he made you see it in a different perspective so you didn't hate it. did that make sense? not really. But there are really classics that deserve to be classics. A classmate and I did a presentation on the Illiad with sock puppets. Oh yeah. Sock puppets. It was awesome.
Bridge to Teribithia - Katherine Paterson More grade school fun, I cried. and that's all I got.
Anything Shakespeare but especially As You Like It and Twelfth Night
we read As You Like It in high school for English 9 I think and I fell in love with his style and his language and just everything. And Twelfth Night I love just because of all the drama and the back and forth and the mistaken identity and mostly because of yet another presentation for yet another Thurber class (Shakespeare, it was my favorite class of his) where he put us into groups and we had to present each play in a unique way. Our group got Twelfth Night so we divided up the scenes and presented them in like a Whose Line is it Anyway kind of thing with a censored scene (I was the Censored Seductress with the name tag to prove it) an E-True Shakespearian story, a soap opera called 'Days of our Night', silent acting, one segment with the crocodile hunter that we called 'Malvolio Hunter', a scene where I got interrogated in a prison cell while Anna sang in rhyme it was hilarious and I had to keep a straight face, and then the final scene was Mystery Date where all the identities were revealed.

Books I loved growing up and for fun throughout school:
You Belong to Me - Mary Higgins ClarkRead this one I think the same summer I read Runaway Jury. I loved it because I loved the song and I thought it was cool to murder people and tie it to something like that. Not that I'm going to go out and do that but it was still a clever way to tell a story.
All I Really Need To Know I Learned in Kindergarten - Robert Fulghum
Yet another from a summer in high school. I remember reading this one outside on a swing, he's hilarious and this is probably his best work. So if you're looking for good and short nonfiction go for Robert Fulghum.
Princess Bride - William Goldman senior year of high school, class trip to chicago I read it on the plane. I loved the movie so I read the book and there are so many more things in it with the zoo of death and all that, definitely worth reading if you liked the movie.
Carrie - Stephen King yeah, yeah name sake and all that. I read it in grade school and I think it was my first actual adult novel. scared the crap out of me but I was hooked.
Little Girl Lost - Drew Barrymore more high school fun. discovered this book and wrote a report on it. I love Drew, which I'm sure you've picked up since post one, so reading this book was like the best thing ever. Cause she wrote it. It tells all of her life story - up til checking herself into rehab (not for the first time) and doesn't leave out any of the gory details.
Politically Correct Bedtime Stories - James Finn Garner ask the BFF and she'll tell you she only keeps me around for reading her fairy tales in voices.
Julie and Julia - Julie Powell read it during down town of camping with the family, loved it. totally different from the movie which was also good. i attempted her second one "Cleaving" but again, that was after I started working for the library.
The DaVinci Code - Dan Brown read this one and wrote a paper on it for a college class, also totally different from the movie but it's still fantastic. i couldn't put it down.
Heat Wave/Naked Heat - Richard CastleI'm a Castle junkie so when these actually came out to go along with the show I was all over them. Oh crap. That breaks my streak of not finishing anything since I started working, damn. I liked saying that. Oh well, it was worth it. Heat Wave is definitely the best of the two but there are so many more jokes you get if you watch the show.

Holy toast this post is getting long. Well, if you're still around I'll give you the highlights to my favorite plays...which I'm aware aren't books but they're still literature so whatever. I'll make it short.

Favorite Plays:
Arsenic and Old Lace - Joseph Kesselring We had the joy of putting this on my senior year of high school. I played Elaine the minister's daughter who's the fiance to the main character. Soooo much fun!
"There's something about calling for a girl at a parsonage that discourages any man who doesn't embroider."

"For a minister's daughter you sure you a lot about life. Where'd you learn it?"
"In the choir loft."
"I'll explain that to you some time, darling-the close connection between eroticism and religion."
"Religion never gets as high as the choir loft."

The Playboy of the Western World - J.M. Synge oh the joy of Modern and Post-Modern Drama, I loved that class. This was a highlight because this dude comes into town claiming to have murdered his father and everyone loves him. They celebrate him as a hero. Then, when his father shows up not dead they turn their backs on him. Hilarious.

Arcadia - Tom Stoppard such clever writing, two storylines happening at once even though they're decades apart. everything weaves together in the end, stick with it.

On the Verge or The Georgraphy of Yearning - Eric Overmyer my favorite play I read throughout college. These three women take a trip through a jungle and are simultaneously traveling through time as they travel farther and farther through the jungle. "Terra Incognita!" Each character is different and it's just sooo funny.

"Yes, Mary, there are two sorts of people in the world. There are cannibals-and there are lunch."

"Little sasquatch has gone for more snowballs, no doubt!" *hit by snowball* "Ahhh!"
"Baby yeti may have yeti croonies, I think prudence dictates we move on."

"Why is there evil in the world, Alexandra?"
"To thicken the plot." Alex is my hero.

"Alex I believe verse is your province."

"Hang ten. Shoot the pipeline. Curl the Big Kahuna!" Again, Alex is my hero.

"So, when's the shindig?"
"Shindig?"
"I think she means the the authentic suburban charred meat festival you promised us."
"Ah, yes. The bar-be-cue."
and yes, I did write a report on this one as well but it was more focused on the language and how it changes throughout the novel.

Tartuffe - Moliere another presentation where a friend and myself acted out a scene, well two scenes that we combined, for a grade. We got an A it was fantastic. I still remember some of my lines.
"What of Tartuffe then, what of your father's plan?"
"I'll kill myself, if I'm forced to marry that man."
or
"Not Tartuffe! You know I think him-"
"Tartuffe's your cup of tea, and you shall drink him."
"I've always told you everything, and relied-"
"No, you deserve to be tartuffifed."
basically her father wants her to marry this awful man Tartuffe when she's in love with someone else.

here's a bonus if you're still reading.
Books I've read for class that I will never read again aka classics that are overrated:
Moby Dick - Herman Melville no normal person cares how many dimensions a boat has or a whale has. i mean maybe some people but we don't need to read about it in detail in a novel. just no.
Brave New World - Aldous Huxley sorry SuperHumann, loved the discussion with you but the novel was a little like, um...whoa. gross.
Books I've started since working at the library and love so far but still haven't finished them:
Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger Yes this may be the most well-loved novel by serial killers everywhere but screw statistics, it's excellent.
Novel Destinations - Shannon McKenna Schmidt this is cool because it's nonfiction about all the different locations in famous novels
Slaugherhouse-Five - Kurt Vonnegut Kilgore Trout. Need I say more? Even Prentiss is a fan.
You're a Horrible Person, But I Like You: The Believer Book of Advice a gift from my sister, ha! But it's fantastic, people write to celebrities for advice and it publishes their answers.

Okay, more add-ins.
TV - Wipeout, I love the commentary and the big red balls. Hilarious.
And then World's Dumbest, I've already posted a clip from this. I love it, it's where celebrities careers go to die but seriously, it's fantastic. Celebrities do commentary on these stupid clips that people send in and they make lists like the top 20 world's dumbest criminals or 20 world's dumbest brawlers or 20 world's dumbest commercials just that kind of stuff. It's fantastic.
Music - Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (remake classics), Johnny Cash growing up I listened to him all the time my dad is a big fan, Theory of a Deadman I've already posted a song of there's a while ago but everything they do is just epic and awesome. And Saving Abel is also another good band you can jam out to. Plus Stop Making Friends aka Pauley Perrette is freaking awesome. Listen to their song "Fear" and tell me what you think. And um, hello, Glee cast soundtracks? They're all I listen to lately, that show has the best remakes. My most recent favorite is "Don't you want me baby" or "She's not there" but all time it's probably the "Time Warp" (already posted) or "Forget You" (also already posted) with Gwyneth Paltrow (okay I remember typing that name lately so maybe that one's in there) she's got a voice man, I'm stoked she's making a reappearance. I'm a total soundtracks junkie, Glee, Moulin Rouge, Calamity Jane, Oklahoma, Music and Lyrics, Rent, NCIS, Hairspray, Avenue Q, Grease 1&2 (oh, another for the movies post), Coyote Ugly (this is the role for maria bello, i can't even listen to her british accent in mummy 3), Chicago, Mamma Mia (minus pierce brosnan), Rocky Horror, Sister Act, Wedding Singer, Walk the Line even Whip It had a kickass soundtrack, which was Drew's mix tape for the world. Oh crap Whip It! It's derby and it's Drew how did I forget that one? There's a poster on the wall in front of me for crying in the sun. Good thing I'm taking the time to edit these things, otherwise the remainder of the week would be These are a few of my favorite things...that I failed to mention earlier in the week. Which, actually...wouldn't be so bad. I'm still debating what I'm going to do for the rest of the week. Besides hobbies. Or like...yeah no just hobbies. Wow. gonna have to be creative.

Well, at least the baby stopped crying...

So, I suck at this whole posting thing. I've been crazy busy which really isn't an excuse because I've made time to do other things.
In an attempt to make up for lost time I will come up with a list of the random events that have occurred throughout the week.
1. Had a conversation with coworkers about the fashion of troll dolls. Apparently their bold fashion statement of flamboyant hair and shirts that show off their big stomachs are making a comeback. That's what you get when you work downtown and see all the crazies. Thankfully they are wearing pants. Well, most of them.
2. Went to see Harry Potter 7 again, this time with Nic and Megan. Still awesome. And we ran into Becky so that was cool. We sat in the back and made sarcastic comments - mostly because people kept going up and down the stairs to the balcony and it constantly sounded like a stampede and because someone brought their baby. Why would you bring a baby to Harry Potter? It's loud and scary! Strange, right? Anyway, the kid cried a lot and the best line of the whole experience took place in the middle. Nicole and I were making faces about the stampede and Nic leans over and says, "well, at least the baby stopped crying." I died. I think that's one of those you have to be there moments, but it made my night.
3. Vicki and I have either been working too much lately or we just need to get more sleep. Every morning we've worked together we've both been completely out of it. I'm like a walking zombie and she almost falls asleep at the desk. She has declared us to be sleep-deprived space cadets. Today was fun though because she decided we should box up all the donations - both of us - so I commented that maybe between the two of us space cadets we could form one fully functional human being. That worked well.
4. Xmas program at church was Sunday. They decided to do it early this year because last year it almost didn't happen. With all the snow and power outtages - it was a mess. But this year's went well. My niece was the best. And I'm not saying that because of favoritism. She said her line loud and clear and not too fast. I was quite proud actually. Everyone else mumbled theirs. I remember that though, you're nervous cause everyone is staring at you. I looked everywhere but the crowd. This time I just got to sing in the choir. Dad gave me crap for never looking up from my music but it was the first time I'd sang it! I didn't practice with them, I just show up and sing since I can't make it to practices. It was easy enough. After that it was Pizza Hut for lunch then practice to sing at Heritage. We went gypsy caroling. We call it gypsy caroling because earlier in the year we had gone around Heritage singing camp songs on family day. One of our friends called us the gypsies. Liz became our "gypsy leader" and now that nickname is totally going to stick. I'll make it stick. Camp should be fun.
5. Along with being a sleep-deprived space cadet I am also very giggly at inappropriate times. It's bizarre. I was trying to tell a story to a coworker in the staff room and I couldn't get through it. I laughed so hard I started crying. It was bad. But the story was just funny, because I can still picture... okay, so this dude was on one of the internet computers and his phone rang. Meanwhile, we have this amazing older lady who comes in and volunteers at the smaller branch. She processes new materials and does the holds and yeah. She's awesome and hilarious. She was attempting to use the self-check and even though it hates me I was trying to help. (it's new and never accepts my barcode. evil.) We couldn't get it to work so we stood there for a while. Back to the guy, his phone rings, he answers, and the speaker is set on like high so you can hear everything the person on the line is saying. At first it's all hi, how are you. Then out of nowhere she's like "I have diahrrhea...bad!" And the volunteer turns to me and makes this face like she's like scandelized or something. I seriously died on the spot. That expression will come to mind every time I see her, I swear it's burned into my brain. So I tried to tell that story at work, and just like now when I was typing it out, it took me a couple tries to make all the way through it without collapsing on myself. Too funny.
6. Speaking of the smaller branch, we had our xmas party today. I brought the silverware and plates and stuff and I found these napkins that say, "what happens at the holiday party stays at the holiday party!" They were a big hit. We're sending one to our boss who was sick and couldn't make it. I love those people, they're too fun.
7. Another thing this sleep-deprived space cadet couldn't stop laughing at inappropriately was this line from Just Shoot Me. It's a Nina Van Horn specialty, she always had the best ones, but I died. I couldn't stop. It was endless, but I had to hold it in as I was up in the lab and it was like dead silent. I'm sure my coworker thought I was going nutso. Maybe I am nutso. Here's the short version, Nina and Maya went walking somewhere and Maya sees a guy juggling. Nina turns up at the office with a cast on her arm. When asked why she replies, "Little tip: never yell, 'Look, he's got six balls!' at someone who's about to step off a curb."
Today was not a serious day for me at all.
8. I actually got to watch Mike and Molly. Mom dvr'd a few, they are pretty funny. I'm glad, I like Melissa McCarthy, I hope it stays on. It had some good one-liners as well. "You're a closed book!"
"No, I'm not! I'm an open catalogue laying on the night stand!"
"I don't know what that means, I'm lost!"
or
"You wanted space, go sit on a missile!"
9. Another fun library moment - a coworker of mine is a true librarian. In like the truest sense. A patron returned a book - big picure of Lana Turner on the cover. She picks up the book and says, "look at this binding!" "Yeah, who's that on the cover?" "I don't know, I was just admiring the binding." I noticed. But I love this woman. She's great with the patrons and answered every one of my stupid questions during training.
10. Fun reference questions I've had lately - "what is the average salary of an roman emporer?"
"what is the opposite of pianissimo?"
"when does that green lantern movie come out?" He asked mainly because I was wearing a green lantern shirt. I wear fun shirts when I'm an aid.
11. Got to play video games with my niece and nephew - TMNT mostly. We love it - and while hitting robots with my big stick (i'm donatello...always. we have our usual characters. joe likes to fly so he's mikey. mandy likes red so she's rafael.) I frequented the response "yeah! stick that in your speedo jacuzzi bob!" thank you Big Bang Theory.
12. I got to catch up on The Closer - I'm about to watch the new one right now - and NCIS when I went home so that was nice. I liked serious Tony in this one. I thought he was pulling a prank, good ending, good ending.
13. Isn't it unlucky to end on 13? Oh well. I'm taking the chance. I'm off for the night to watch The Closer and Castle. Then more work tomorrow, hooray! I'm crazy. It's official.
ps- why is the bad guy from ncis and literally every other show he's in watching robots break through walls on the directv commercials? isn't he in jail? didn't they just lock him up?

"Dobby didn't mean to kill, Dobby only meant to maim or seriously injure!"

Went to see Harry Potter 7 with my aunt and 2 cousins. It was brilliant, excellent and seriously made of awesome. I know the cliffnotes version of the book because my sister told me about it when she was reading it, and I've read all the other ones but haven't had a chance to read this one.
It was really really good. I was on the edge for the whole time. It was very sad a lot of the time, but also very funny some of the time. A little darker than the rest of the movies, but afterwards we went out to eat and the waitress was chatting with us about it. She went to the midnight showing and was wearing a button that said 'muggle' on it. I love it and my awesome family.

Anyway, I'd rate it about 9/10. Very good drama.
