Huzzah for a day off.
Slept in, it was fabulous.
Watched a ton of my DVR'd X Games - winter edition, go Kelly Clark!
Did a ton of laundry - and folded most of it...
Did a ton of editing - and am loving it.
And played a ton of Lords of the Realm 2 - just cause I could. Made it to level three then looked up and realized it was 11:30 and I should probably go to bed.
See, I didn't think I was one of those gamers that would play stuff like that for hours and not even realize it, but then I found that game and it just never ends.
Blame my brother, he's the one that gave it to me in the first place.
So I was semi-productive, right?
Oh and I watched 2 episodes of Hollywood Game Night - holy crap Angie Harmon is competitive... - and then of course The Blacklist - intensity man.
So I'm boring, and I'm sorry. I'll be more exciting tomorrow cause it's date night.
Today was just too cold to do anything.
Oh and I finally set up my fancy new coffee maker. It's fantastic. The only problem is now I have three - yes three coffeemakers. They all work, I just don't know what to do with them.
Guess I could have a coffee taste-off.
With like 10 of my friends, cause they each make a ton.
Yes "ton" is the word of the day. Pretty much every day of my life cause there's always a ton of things going on and it seems the only word worthy to capture that amount specifically.
I guess there are others.
Massive.
Large.
Mahoosive.
Oh, and I wrote thank you notes to the professors who wrote me recommendation letters for grad school.
I don't know why mahoosive made me think of that.
Well, it went: Mahoosive.
Moose.
Gazelles.
Gazelle swagger.
Fiction Writing.
ZH.
Long story.
I realize I'm making no sense.
Sorry.
I think it's all the caffeine from the new coffeemaker.
Or I'm just losing my mind, I did go outside in shorts today to take the trash out.
Which would be fine but it's like 10 degrees out.
But I'm an idiot like that. College classmates used to yell at me cause I would never wear coats, just hoodies, and then Sketch would be like, um, yeah. Have you ever met her before?
"It's cold out and I'm not wearing pants, where are you?"
Shorts. I was wearing shorts. They're not pants, but it came out wrong.
Speaking of Sketch, it's her birthday today. So in honor of that I shall re-post two of my favorite Sketch-centric Sketch and Edit's in her honor. Cause I can. And let's face it this post was going nowhere anyway.
Originally posted here and here. Should really make an inventory post for these things. Here's links to this particular storyline if you get lost.
First was this: Sketch Gets Some Flowers
Next was this: Sketch and Edit Buy Some Plants
Code reference comes from here: Sketch and Edit Cook a Turkey
Sketch Meets the Parents
*Sketch enters front door and slams it*
Sketch – “Would someone please tell me what is up with guys?!”
Edit from couch – “You don't really expect me to have an answer to that do you?”
S – “He wants me to meet his mother.”
E – “What?!”
S – “Yeah.”
E – “I didn’t know it was that serious!”
S – “Neither did I!”
E – “When?”
S – “Now, tonight, I gotta go get ready.”
E – “You’re shaking!”
S – “I’m meeting the parents! Who meets the parents on the third date?!”
E – “A mama’s boy?”
S – “But seriously? His mother? Seriously?”
E – “Where does she live?”
S – “Over on Elm Street.”
E – “Ah, suburbia, where they tear down the trees then name streets after them.”
S – “I gotta find something to wear, come on.” *Edit jumps off couch and follows Sketch upstairs*
E – “You’re asking me for fashion advice? Really?”
S – “You’re my only option.”
E – “Good point.”
*Sketch goes into closet while Edit sits on bed*
Sketch returns with dress – “What do you think of this dress?”
E – “Ummm, stick some candles in it and make a wish?”
S – “Bad, got it. Moving on.” *goes back into closet and yells* “Why am I doing this again?”
E – “I don’t know, some plantman-induced psychosis?”
*Sketch re-enters in dress*
E – “Oh, don’t even try using the laser vision on me with that dress on.”
S – “Bad?”
E – “It’s…interesting.”
S – “Interesting as in not pretty. Got it.” *goes back into closet and yells* “But seriously, why am I doing this?”
E – “Love is a damn crazy thing.”
S – “Is it really?”
E – “I don’t know, that’s what my college roommate told me when she was drunk on her 21st birthday and I had to take care of her.”
S – “Point taken.” *returns* “What about this one?”
E – “Much better.”
S – “Okay, makeup.” *move into bathroom across the hall, Edit leans in the hallway* “But, it’s like, he calls me and acts all sweet and asks me out to dinner. So I say yes, clearly stating I have no other plans. Then he drops the bomb. ‘Oh, it’s at my mother’s. So dress nice. Okay, see you at seven!’ CLICK! He hangs up! But what was I supposed to do? I can’t say I have plans when he knows I clearly have no plans. So there was no escape route. But, I like him. I mean, I think I like him. Maybe it will be okay.”
E – “Do you need me for this conversation?”
S – “Maybe she won’t be this horrible horrible bitch that I can imagine her being because her son is such a jerk.”
E – “And yet you continue to date him.”
S – “Well, not really.”
E – “You’re meeting his mother! That’s like the definition of dating!”
S – “You’re really not helping my nerves here.” *turns away from mirror* “What do you think?”
E – “Hot.”
S – “But not like slutty. Cause that would be bad.”
E – “Nope, not slutty enough to be a hoe yet not nun-like enough to be celibate.”
S – “Um, thanks?” *Sketch starts downstairs Edit follows*
E – “So, what is plant man’s real name anyway?”
S – “No.”
E – “He’s Chinese? Is that his first or last?”
S – “Absolutely not, cause you’ll run a background check or hack into his computer. No!”
E – “Oh come on! How am I supposed to be petty and judgmental without having all the facts?”
*Sketch glares*
E – “What?”
S – “I’m trying to imagine you with less personality.”
Edit grins – “How’s that working for you?”
S – “Kiss it.”
E – “Suck it!” *sketch opens door* “Good luck!”
S – “Watch out for the code!” *closes door, Edit crashes on couch with phone*
A Nightmare on Elm Street aka Sketch Uses the Code
*Edit’s phone beeps*
Text message from Sketch: “as;dflkjasfdlparlay”
*Edit dials*
*Sketch’s phone rings at dinner table, Mother glares*
Edit – “Curses, King Henry has cut off my head!”
S – “I have to take this, excuse me.” *goes outside while Edit rambles*
E – “You need to come home because I am decapitated. And even though I can still talk it is, in fact, an emergency and I need you to come and drive me to the hospital. Now. You need to come now, there’s blood all over the couch and I’m hungry and I can’t eat without a head because I can’t see the food to eat it and I don’t have a mouth to put it in and then there will be no food because I have no head so then I will die, like actually die and…”
S – “We’re clear, I’m outside. Are you watching The Tudors again?”
E – “Yep. Bad?”
S – “You know Hitler?”
E – “Not on a first name basis, but yes, I’m familiar with him.”
S – “Imagine him with long brown hair staring at you while you’re trying to eat a salad.”
E – “Is this with or without the mustache?”
S – “You need to come get me.”
E – “You don’t think they’re going to see through that?”
S – “I know. I hate you.”
E – “You like this guy right?”
S – “I’m eating dinner with his mother, I think that’s a definite sign.”
E – “Well, it’s not like you had much choice in the matter, but you seem to like the guy and you glow when you come home and you’re all happy giddy Sketch all the time. He seems worth all this and you don’t want to throw that away because you can’t stand to be in the same room with his mother for more than an hour, do you?”
S – “No.”
E – “So just finish the salad-”
S – “But she’s staring at me!”
E – “Then stare back!”
S – “What if her jaw unhinges and she bites off my head?”
E – “Well, then we’re screwed cause I’m already decapitated.”
S – “Who will drive us to the hospital?”
E – “Plantman?”
S – “Maybe.”
E – “Oh, is he not on our side anymore?”
S – “Undetermined. But he can’t think it’s going well, right? I mean, when your mother grills your dates about their personal lives and finds a way to make every answer sound like they’re a hillbilly with no hope or future do you think it’s going well?”
E – “Don’t know, haven’t really had a relationship that’s lasted longer than a mento so there’s been no need for introductions.”
S – “That’s cause you’re a commitment-phobe.”
E – “Look who’s talking.”
S – “Hey, I’m here aren’t I?”
E – “Yes, but you don’t want to be. Just breathe, go back inside, finish the salad and say it’s a school night so you need to get back to work on lesson plans. Which it is, and you do. I’ll see you when you get home.”
S – “If I don’t jump out on the interstate first.”
E – “Don’t jump out on the interstate – drive a motorcycle and get someone to door you, it’s a much better way to go.”
S – “Alright. I’m going back in. Thanks.”
E – “Anytime. By the way, was that a ‘parlay’ at the end of that text?”
S – “I thought it was fitting.”
E – “I think we found our new codeword.”
BTW that phone call actually happened. My college roommate coded me and I responded with a decapitated rambling.
It was quite fascinating really.
Alright, that's all I got. I hope you all had an awesome Monday.

"These Red Bull vodkas are strange. I feel like I'm getting drunk and electrocuted at the same time!"
That moment when you run into one of your best friends from college and go, wait what?
There were four of us that were pretty close in college. You've probably seen the pictures on Facebook and all that. One is in Illinois, another is in St. Louis, another is - or was - in Chicago and then there's me still here.
We did pretty much everything together. One of my exes so lovingly dubbed them as "the wolfpack" cause we had to approve if one of us was dating someone.
Although it only seemed to be me dating people that needed approval. Which explains why I'm in the double digits and the first of those digits isn't a one. They scared enough of them off. No they weren't that bad.
Anyway, so I'm walking from the parking lot to work this morning and I'm early - and I'm never early so it was meant to be - and I'm about to cross the street when I look up and I see a member of the wolfpack.
And, you know me in the mornings, I'm half asleep. So I'm pretty sure I'm dreaming, but then she froze too so then I knew it was real.
So weird. Apparently she works just a few blocks over.
Which is madness. But handy, we'll have to do lunch.
That was the start of my double-take day.
The second one of those double-takes was when one of my coworkers got hit on. This drunk dude - or really hyper dude it was up for debate - told her she needed to be on the cover of a catalog for gray hair.
I would have smacked him, but she just walked away.
The third double-take of the day came when the boyfriend decided we were going to see Last Vegas.
It was actually pretty good. Scale of Awesome says 7/10. I'd see it again. The kid that played young DeNiro was a definite double-take moment, holy crap he was dead on.
The thing about seeing a movie like this in a small town is that the average age of the audience was at least mid-40's so there was a lot of laughter in agreement on what was going on.
But it was good, I liked it.
Alright, should crash. Tomorrow is back to practicum - only 3 days left - and then dinner with the Cool Aunt and the Library Goddess.
Should be fun.
Song of the Day:
Somewhere Only We Know - Lily Allen
okay, this is just mean. i love lily allen but i hate this song. cause i love it. and there's a history. but that's more of a long story. i'm gonna shut up now before i tell it.

She's choppin' broccoli.
So apparently I'm uncultured because I didn't know Dana Carvey enjoyed watching women chop broccoli.
Fortunately, I have siblings who teach me these things.
Here's what I learned today.
We frequently text random things back and forth and the majority of them between the sisters are lyrics.
Mostly Troll Doll ones, but others are included as well.
And then you've got my brother who is overloaded by all this randomness and says something to the effect of "stop making my phone beep."
To which Oldest Sister replied "beep" about 10 times in 2 minutes.
It was rather amusing.
It was just a really random day. Got that text. Then there's this patron who decided to throw a huge temper tantrum when she got caught breaking the rules, but then again I threw my own when my favorite aide decided today was her last day and fist bumped me on the way out the door.
We're losing all the good ones.
Then, I get home and check my email to find a message from one of my college professors checking in on me. I haven't heard from her in years.
As much as I hated that place the teachers did actually care.
They should put that on a business card.
I'm sorry, that's awful.
But anyway, she wrote me a recommendation letter along with three others there and she still cares to check in. It's nice. Speaking of, I should write a letter to the one I correspond with regularly, I'm way behind on that.
After that randomness it was time for online class where we talked about getting library jobs - which I already have so... but it was a good review and there was other stuff too - then I finished my practicum stuff and uploaded that, oh the correct Practicum Count-Up is actually 51:30/90 cause that includes the after hours stuff, looked over Comps sources and made plans with my comrades to meet up.
We're all freaked cause this is a make or break exam so we're gonna meet up and go over sources and ideas on Sunday and then again later in the week to make sure everything makes sense.
The goal is to stop the flailing.
I guess in this circumstance you can't stop all the flailing but our goal is to limit the flailage so that we're able to focus and pass these damn tests and be done with homework eternally!
You know, after we finish the semester.
We haven't picked a spot yet but we've decided that coffee is essential.
Any suggestions on the south side of town?
That's all I got for today. Tomorrow's a staff meeting so I should probably crash soon.
On to the music:
Domino - Grey vs. Nic Hawk
Grey is one of my favorites but I'm glad Nic got saved. He was number 21 on my top 20.
Legitimate pre-midnight post, holy crap tag in use.
with a little bit of luck i can find me a girl with a truck, yeah!
dangit, it's back in my head again.

Single white female looking for a man like you.
Do you ever feel like people are becoming too creative with their license plates?
Like today I was driving behind a car with one that said I CRE8
That's great, congratulations, you create what exactly? And why are you putting it on your license plate?
Granted this is coming from someone who just suggested we make homemade license plates that say BABEWGN to cover the Iowa plates on our rental so feel free to ignore my thoughts on this subject.
That's right the big day is tomorrow!
NLA - the Nebraska Library Association conference also known as the GNC - Glorified Nerd Convention.
Green bags and nametags all around.
We're nerds, but it's okay, we own it. I love it.
Meeting up with the Queen of the Known Universe and the New Guy at 5AM so we can be there before 8 which means I'm waking up at 4:30.
Clearly the Queen is driving, anything before 8 for me is questionable, I'm not sure about the New Guy. And since she's driving she rented a pickup truck cause it gave her an excuse to rent one - she has a slight obsession.
Earlier this month the New Guy dubbed it the "Babe Wagon" because we kept getting hit on that week. Now he has joined our carpool crew so he is a babe as well.
We need one of those yard sticks like they have at the amusement parks.
"You must be *this* sexy to ride."
My friends all laughed when I told them I was going to bed at 9.
Mostly because they know me. For me it's almost impossible to go to bed before 10PM. Actually I rarely go to bed before 1AM.
It just doesn't work so I'm gonna have to turn on something especially boring.
The only problem is that I don't own anything especially boring.
Maybe the Addams Family.
I'm sorry, I hated the original movie but I really liked the sequel Family Values.
For most people that's backwards.
But waking up tomorrow at 4:30 is gonna be weird enough without waking up to the home page of the Addams Family DVD on my screen so I'll pass on that one.
Last time I remember waking up that early on purpose was back in college. I used to help Oldest Sister with her craft shows and she did some in the Haymarket on the weekends. We would have to be down there by like 6 and usually I stayed over with her but this one time I actually drove and met her there. I woke up at 4:30 in the dorms and walked to the bathroom and one of my hallmates was just getting back and was getting ready for bed. I was jealous.
Not of the fact that she was out that late, but of the fact that she got to go to sleep at that moment in time.
As you've noticed I'm really not a morning person.
So, that being said, it is now 9:00 I'm going to post this, charge my phone and iPod, and find something boring to watch. I've already got my clothes and breakfast laid out. Bag is packed, taking a book along just in case. Think I'm good.
Song of the Day:
I keep singing Royals - that one I posted a couple of days ago by Lorde - and humming it around the library. It's driving me nuts because originally I really didn't like it at all. Now it's grown on me. But I can't post that cause I already did so since tomorrow's drive is going to be country-filled tonight you're gonna get some retro country.
Single White Female - Chely Wright
i do have to laugh when i hear this song. ironic coming from her now.
And I'm out. Legitimate pre-midnight post, holy crap tag in use.
Here are last year's conference notes - I went both days cause I was a GA - and also one from the year before that so you'll understand when I say Glorified Nerd Convention I actually mean Glorified Nerd Convention.

The human torch was denied a bank loan.
I love my boyfriend in the mornings.
I'm going to work.
Okay.
You want to keep sleeping?
Okay.
Can you bring me my keys at work?
Okay.
I laid you out a towel and toothbrush.
Okay. Thank you honey.
And then he was gone.
Though he did get up to lock the door after I left.
Cause he's sweet like that.
It's funny though cause he makes fun of me for not being a morning person.
I feel bad making him live normal people hours on the weekends - though this one was his choice - because then he has to go into work on Sunday nights.
I met the other side of his family last night, his cousin owns a bar and all the other cousins got together and brought food and did a potluck sort of thing at the bar.
I was all like nervous the entire day at work. Pretty sure BossLady and Queen of the Known Universe - aka my Work Mom - were making fun of me cause I was all paranoid about meeting them.
But it was good, it actually went really well. They were really laid back and I actually knew a couple of them from camp cause their kid goes.
And his brother and sister-in-law were there so we jammed with them and actually went out with them afterward.
Made for a late night so he stayed over and slept all day when I was at work.
Came home, brought him supper, we watched Anchorman and then he headed back to go to work.
I own it but haven't seen it since high school. Scale of Awesome says 7/10. The second one looks funny, have you seen the cast list? Go here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1229340/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast serious amounts of cameos in this one.
My cat is currently going psycho and I have no idea what's going on. Like he keeps running back and forth in front of me and making strange noises.
I can't tell if he's chasing a bug or having a panic attack.
Can cats have panic attacks?
Is that normal behavior? I mean, he does it all the time, but do normal cats do that or is it just mine?
Should I get him a shrink?
Do they have shrinks for cats?
They had one for a dog on Castle.
Maybe I should look into that.
Anyway, those were the real highlights from this weekend aside from working with an awesome crew and then tonight's 2 hour conversation with Sketch.
I had this flashback to college cause I swear like 98% of tonight's conversation was about boyfriends. Anyway, in college freshman year I was on the way back to the dorms with Sketch and Schwartz and Lindz and we were talking about guys and I was like, "Remember earlier when we didn't talk about guys. Let's go back to that." *silence* "What did we used to talk about?" *more silence*
Was good to catch up.
And now I'm off to bed.
My goal is to get up before noon and then do homework all day.
Wish me luck.
On to the music:
It's official, there's a video!
Acapella - Karmin
yes i've posted this song like 5 times in three weeks, but it's official cause the video is now out!
and is awesome.
the toast thing amuses me.
okay, i promise not to post the song again for another month.
how's that?
here are the real songs of the day.
both from soundtracks and both for no reason whatsoever, just got into my head and wouldn't leave.
i was going nuts.
here's another soundtrack for you:
"that's not a good start but, keep going."
out.

Play something country.
Ah the joys of Mayberry.
Went to my niece's kindergarten graduation tonight.
Ran into some former professors.
Which is amusing cause now I get to see a former professor every day at work!
Anyway, these two were two of my favorites from college.
They made the quote books frequently.
Tonight's encounter was especially amusing cause Second Sister was like, "you know her?! how do you know her?!"
Um. She taught me how to interview?
Senior year, Placement Seminar.
Resumes, fake interviews with real professionals, portfolios, etc.
Came up with life plans.
Which is actually in one of my quote books.
I used to carry these little spiral bound notebooks in my back pocket every day for four years.
Senior year's was red.
Here's the life plan that our class came up with our first week.
1. Get born.
2. Grow up - eat spinach, drink milk, stop picking your nose.
3. Go to college - pick a major your parents like.
4. Get high (dramatic pause) paying job.
5. Find a family - don't want to see them, just know they're there.
6. Buy stuff - like a motorboat.
7. Get old - purchase many anti-aging products to hide the fact that it's almost over and you've missed it.
8. Die (or leave).
Wow.
There's a lot of stuff in here from that class.
"What's a Zamboni? Pasta?"
"Are we drinking before or after the interview?"
"Interview Rule #1: Celebrate After."
"Is taking a backpack to an interview normal?"
"Not unless you plan on stealing some office supplies when you leave."
"What not to have on your Facebook. What do you need to go and delete immediately after class?"
"Don't fold your resume, especially not into projectile objects."
"Nothing like spending your Friday night crying into a bag of Doritos." - that one I have in my Facebook quotes section.
A lot of mentionings of "anti-aging products and a motorboat."
I miss these quote books.
Now I just have baskets of paper slips with quotes written on them kept in no order whatsoever.
Not as cool, should bring them back.
So that was tonight. Earlier today was work.
Had another volunteer bail on me for training.
Been a rough couple of weeks to be the volunteer supervisor.
With the whole incident on Thursday and then I've got GoPo's coming in every day looking for hours cause they're due next week.
Trying to think of other stuff from today.
Opened the lab in the morning. Worked the desk through the day. Drafted some Summer Reading Event posters. Checked in lots and lots of stuff.
That's about it.
Graduation ceremony.
Kiddos were excited to ride in my car from the school to their house.
They're very cute.
Jammed at Second Sister's for a while afterward.
Now I'm back with my big fat cat watching a rerun of Wipeout.
Gotta love DVR.
Actually get to sleep in a bit tomorrow morning. Work 11-8 because we're doing an event at the zoo from like 5-7 tomorrow night.
Gonna be fun.
On to the music:
to be fair i did say i was going to post them last night.
Lovesong - Team Adam
love this song. and these people.
Play Something Country - Team Blake
i love that team blake is bringing back classic country music. not this contemporary crap.
over and out.

Metaphorically Applause
Ah, a day off.
I feel like I have to celebrate every time that happens and I don't have major plans.
Slept in, that was nice. Woke up around noon and watched People Like Us.
Chris Pine, Michelle Pfeiffer, Elizabeth Banks - who's in everything now, Hunger Games, What to Expect When You're Expecting, Our Idiot Brother, Pitch Perfect she was producer and cast member, she's directing a segment of Movie 43 which is basically a film stocked with more celebrities than Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve combined - which is saying something.
And you know Chris is pretty popular now with Star Trek and Michelle's always been popular so I figured it would be good.
If you watch the trailer you've got the storyline. He's this big shot in New York who's in over his head, his dad dies so he goes home for the funeral where he finds out his dad is leaving this big chunk of cash to this chick and her son. He follows them and figures out she's the sister, etc.
It was pretty good, Scale of Awesome rates it at about 7/10, aka good storyline, humorous moments but not something I'm going to watch over and over.
Now I'm back to Charlie's Angels.
Season three.
Yes, yes, I know. I've seen all of the episodes of seasons 1-3 like 5 times each but I got season 5 and am attempting my way to it. Even though the thought of season 4 just doesn't seem right.
And I don't even know why, it's not like Sabrina's my favorite and she's the only one that leaves.
In fact I don't know that she's anyone's favorite, which is ironic cause the show was built around Kate Jackson.
Originally she wanted to play Kelly so the pilot makes Jaclyn Smith look like the star, but she changed her mind at the last second - though too late for the script to be re-written. Jaclyn was actually the third billed below Kate and Farrah, but finally made her way to the top during the 4th season.
Yes, I know, I'm sad. But Drew does own the rights to them so what do you expect?
I only jumped back to CA cause I finished season one of Lie To Me. I don't have season two because they only had one and three on sale at Target (for like 10 bucks each) so I'll have to get season two off Amazon - or no, now I have a handy dandy Best Buy gift card from the boyfriend's family that I can buy it with, woohoo!
Yes, so we went out to dinner tonight at the Mexican restaurant in the college town. I joked that you could tell the students from the not students when a waiter dropped a plate and they clapped. Though according to his sister-in-law you're supposed to yell something about a job opening.
We did a lot of clapping in the cafeteria. That was when I went. Meaning freshmen and sophomore year, don't think I set foot in it all of Junior or Senior year. But anyway, yes, supper was fun. Their family gives out Valentine's Day presents, which I was unaware of but the boyfriend did some shopping to cover. But I got that, some chocolate, a candle, more gift cards, I like stocked up and didn't even know anything about it so it was a good day.
But dinner with their family is always fun. They're a goofy gang similar to my family so it feels like natural. The boyfriend is still sick - though he does finally have his voice back. The problem with that though is now that he's better he has to work second shift this weekend so I don't get to see him anyway!
Oh well, next week it is.
So now I'm home with my leftovers. Think I'm gonna throw them in the microwave, eat some more then crash. Everything always tastes better after midnight.
Songs of the day:
One Love - Various artists around the world
cool video, great song.
heard this one on the way home, haven't posted it in a while.
Word Disassociation - Lemon Demon
cooler video, far too much time on their hand - love it. same guy that does Potter Puppet Pals which if you haven't seen you should google cause it's highly entertaining.
and she's out.

Happy Christmas Eve Eve.
Name that reference.
Hmm, today.
Went to Bubby's Christmas Eve service at church. I'm aware it's not Christmas Eve, well technically now it is as it's officially passed midnight. Though this post will say it's ten minutes before as almost always. First year Squirt got out of it since she is in high school now. But see when she used to be in it we could make her laugh by making faces and all that.
But Bubby is too smart for that. He doesn't even look at us cause he knows it's coming.
I fear it's payback for how his dad used to wave and make broad gestures to me from the back of the church when I had to stand up there and say the lines.
But reading them over and over for years and years really does make them stick in your brain as I recited in my head along with them.
Apparently there was a section that Bubby forgot and totally made up his own thing. Didn't eve notice he's that good on the spot.
And the best piano player there for the pre-worship stuff.
But his mom is the organist so...
Interestingly enough he goes to someone else for lessons.
Anyway, so that was in the morning then we went to lunch at Sam and Louie's. Got a calzone and half of it is still in the fridge.
Though now I'm hungry. Dangit.
After that came packing my car with all the presents. Which I didn't realize how many of them there were until I had to carry them all the way down the stairs and across the frozen parking lot expecting to fall at any moment.
Though I haven't had any major ice falls since college.
People used to go to breakfast just so they could sit by the windows and count how many people fell on the ice in the parking lot.
But they never plowed it cause there were always cars there. They'd pour gravel but that only goes so far.
After that I came home - Carter was actually okay on the drive out though he was very happy to be out of the carrier when we entered the farmhouse. He's very content now.
Speaking of content, we did our stockings today. Got some sweet Star Wars ones. I gave him Yoda cause he's small and fuzzy and I'm Darth Vader. Cause that was the other option and I guess I can be both evil and good at the same time.
He got lots of cat treats.
Here was the sequence of events.
The stockings

Why yes, that is a leverage reference for those of you wondering.
There's also a collection of shot glasses, signed copies of 2 separate children's books courtesy of two of my favorite teachers - Serck and the Cool Aunt - plus a golden snitch, mizzou tiger, C-3PO's head, etc.
Told you I needed more bookshelves. There is one other unit as this one only holds A-P. And before you ask, yes they are in order. I work in a library, what do you expect. Though I may switch it up. Sort them by year just to be different. In which case I think Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky would be first and Frozen Heat would be the newest.
Inspecting stocking contents.

Why yes, he is quite spoiled.

Debating how many he can pounce on at the same time.
Fish was the winner

Well, maybe not from his perspective.
Content after a day playing with new toys.

Why yes, I am the stereotypical librarian.
Cats and green tea, I'm telling you. But if I ever start composting please Gibbs smack me.
Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck: Day Ten
Last year's Day Ten included my favorite new original Christmas Song - Wish List by Neon Trees - but since I posted the original last year and all the covers on youtube aren't so fantastic I'm forced to skip it since I can't post it twice in a row.
These rules suck sometimes.
Moving on we still got a few others on the agenda.
White Christmas - Team Blake
starting off with the one most often stuck in my head. for the boyfriend that would be blue christmas. which he sang over and over this weekend it was highly amusing. especially since it was that one and payphone over and over.
but this is the one i looked forward to posting after seeing it on the voice.
think this is one of the major highlights from season three just because blake brings back his entire team to sing.
they make a heck of a choir. cassadee, jordis, think i'm team blake for life.
Welcome Christmas - Grinch
i don't think my uncle or aunt would appreciate being trimmed up. just a theory.
i can post the original since last year i went with the glee version.
what is that, latin? any idea what that means in english?
God rest ye merry gentlemen - Barenaked Ladies
love these guys.

Three years later...
My air conditioner is broken.
Not cool.
So I got my college yearbook in the mail today. From junior year. 3 years later.
Still waiting on senior year's.
Interesting coming from a teacher's college, you'd think they'd have an organized system in place.
Watched more Dark Shadows whilst doing homework. Got a lot done, just have to scan and upload it, then explain two literacies it involves. Then upload reviews for all the books I read this week. All by 11:59PM. Not a big deal, I'm off at 6.
Ordered pizza cause I'm lazy. Ate like one slice. And some breadsticks. And cherry coke.
Sheldon: Is this your card.
Leonard: Nope.
Sheldon: Drat. Is this your card?
Leonard: Nope.
Sheldon: I'll be right back.
I so love Amy and her obsessive "Besties" thing with Penny, it's too funny. Trying to be all normal.
Oh, PS, shelved her book today. Apparently she is not only a scientist with a PhD but also a published author.
My air conditioner is still broken.
Drat.
Calling maintenance tomorrow.
Useless Information:
-Mona Lisa has no eyebrows.
-The only king without a mustache in a deck of cards is the king of hearts.
-Every minute in the US 6 people turn 17.
-Each king in a deck of cards represents an actual king in history.
Spades - King David
Hearts - Charlemagne
Clubs - Alexander the Great
Diamonds - Julius Caesar
-Harrison Ford has a species of spiders named after it.
-Upper and lower case letters got their name from the cases they were kept in, the bigger letters were kept in the case on top of the case full of the smaller ones.
-In 1784 the US had a state called Franklin after Ben but four years later it was incorporated into Tennessee
-Prince Charles and Prince William never travel together in the same airplane in case of a crash.
-Indiana has a city named Santa Clause.
-The Sanskrit word for war means desire for more cows.
And that's all I got.
And I'm hot. Cause my air conditioner's out.
But I said that already.
So I'm out, staff meeting tomorrow.
"Paradise City" Guns N' Roses
was a signature song in high school between myself and a classmate.
despite the grammatical error in their name they're a pretty great band.
love the jam out session in the video.
Not cool.

-Prince Charles and Prince William never travel together in the same airplane in case of a crash.

-The Sanskrit word for war means desire for more cows.
And that's all I got.
And I'm hot. Cause my air conditioner's out.
But I said that already.
So I'm out, staff meeting tomorrow.

despite the grammatical error in their name they're a pretty great band.
love the jam out session in the video.

Oh what a feeling, it must be love.
You know what's truly awesome?
When you have a really crappy day, and then you see your boyfriend and he says like two words and it fixes everything.
So yeah, crappy day, but that happens a lot in public service.
But the boyfriend fixed it, talked me down, distracted me with Dark Shadows. Which I will wait to fully review until I see it again. Which I will. Cause it was fantastic.
Though my stomach is still all weird.
I don't do well with conflict.
I avoid it if all possible.
Mostly because it makes me physically sick.
I got in this knock down, drag out, physically yelling out loud at each other fight with my professor in college after class about youth and the justice system and I was miserable for like a week.
I respect my elders, I don't believe in pulling crap like that, so you knew it was serious.
Though I still think I'm right and he's wrong.
And then, AND THEN! he brings it up in class the next session and poses it as a debate.
Which I guess is an okay thing to do as a professor, but not as a person.
"so we've been talking about this and having a great debate, at least I think it's a great debate, what do you guys think about it?"
Did I mention how much I really didn't like college?
I just need some sleep.
Tonight helped, he's great, my boyfriend. Has all the answers. And only the good ones. Not like the people who claim to have answers for everything.
Speaking of distraction I still have those quotebooks sitting on the floor.
See if I can find anything interesting.
Random page in '09.... oh geez, speak of the devil. Not that one, flipping to a different page.
Okay, Placement Seminar senior year. We came up with resumes, portfolios, went on fake interviews, actually I give credit to that class for getting the job.
Anyway, first week as a class we came up with a life plan.
1. Get born.
2. Grow up - eat spinach, drink milk, stop picking your nose.
3. Go to college - pick a major your parents like.
4. Get high...PAYING job.
5. Find a family - don't want to see them just know they're there.
6. Buy stuff - like a motorboat.
7. Get old - purchase many anti-aging projects to hide the fact that it's almost over and you've missed it.
8. Die. Or leave.
There were a lot of anti-aging products and a motorboat references throughout the class.
I loved that class it was fantastic, she had the best one-liners.
"Nothing like spending your Friday night crying into a bag of Doritos."
"What's a Zamboni? Pasta?"
"He can dunk."
"Donuts?"
"Are we drinking before or after the interviews?"
"Interview rule #1: Celebrate After."
"If you can, case the joint."
"Case the joint?!"
"Don't quote me."
woops.
"Is taking a backpack to an interview normal?"
"Not unless you plan on stealing some office supplies when you leave."
"Don't fold your resume. Especially not into projectile objects."
But that was the same semester I took Group Tech so there were a lot of quotes in the book. I still have flashbacks to that class. That's my curse, and he'll take full blame. I threatened once to make him business cards that said his name and then "Messer of Minds".
It was a fun class, mostly just about how people behave when they're in groups. It's amusing to observe staff meetings and see it happening.
I was a Behavioral Sciences major once upon a time. Before I switched back to English.
But I don't want to spill any secrets because then people will change their behavior and I won't get to find it amusing anymore.
He was a great professor though, always highly amusing.
"Rhythmic breathing. Weird phenomenon."
and my forever favorite after explaining an assignment: "Be creative. Don't get arrested."
As bad as college could be I really liked all - well, the majority - of my professors. And made some good friends along the way.

LA: "But I'm in the back!"
AS: "That doesn't matter, no jacket, no talk! That's the rule!"
LA: "It's okay, he was wearing a plaid shirt."
AS: "Never trust a guy in plaid!"
LA: "Okay, so in order for me to trust them they shouldn't wear plaid, but they should wear a jacket?"
AW: "What if they're wearing plaid and a jacket?"
CK: "What if it's a plaid jacket?"
AS: "Then run!"
So glad to get that one on tape. It made for an interesting drivethru at McDonalds.
Okay, I'm officially distracted and okay again.
Tomorrow's another day.
And its Word of the Day will be: "Logodaedaly ingenious or cunning use of words. There you go, pronounce that one.
A couple hours ago the songs I had planned were a bit more angsty. But I'm liking this whole classic country thing.
Oh yeah, so I got this free month of XM radio thing so they can tempt me to buy it, did you know they have an entire channel dedicated to Hair Bands?
I enjoyed the Prime Country channel on the drive back.

Down on the corner, Out in the street
The problem with getting a new datebook is that you have to transcribe everything from the old datebook.
Well, I have to transcribe all the crap from my old book.
And there's a lot of crap to transcribe.
But I'm the kind of nerd that keeps notes on random stuff, like the regular stuff: this week I'll celebrate my second year working at my current branch and in my apartment,
....and then there's stuff like upcoming October 11th, 6 years ago, my college friends and I would play this game when we went places where we would count vehicles. We each had our own thing, Mustangs, bicycles, motocycles, etc. So on one occasion in particular Lindsay was kicking our ass cause she had bicycles and we were driving downtown Lincoln where they had all those bike racks. This is when we instituted the "it must be moving in order to count" so we pull up to this corner where this guy is sitting on his bike and Lindsay just can't wait to add another number to her total. But the dude is stuck at the crossing, so we of course have our windows down, and she decides to scream out, "6-6-6, Move! Move! Move!"
Which, if you didn't know she was counting six moving bicycles, you could really have taken that the wrong way.
Or how about this one, upcoming August 23rd, 5 years ago, Favorite sister-in-law and me are driving Dad's T-Bird back from Strang after eating some great burgers, when we're almost out of gas so we run to town to get some. But with the T-Bird, this thing is, the windows don't actually work so well...and it started to rain.
Then there was something about a liquor store in there somewhere, but that's a longer story.
October 4th, 3 years ago, triple to the fence. I was up to bat on church softball - this is after one of the other team's men had yelled out "back up their women can hit!" and my sister's ex was giving me crap, but we give it right back, me and my brother. Anyway, so pointed to him with the bat and told him it was coming to him, he yelled out whatever, so I hit it over his head. To the fence. And got a triple. Then he shutup. Also in the book are the two dates I slid on the gravel field and ended up with a pretty nasty scraped up leg.
It's actually amusing going through this old stuff, brings up some memories. In college I used to carry around these quote spiral notebooks in my back pocket everywhere I went, filled one per year.
Now it's just like a build-up of paper slips in my pocket.
Let me see if I can find something interesting...Flip to something random from '08.
Dr. Serck: "She covered it when we noticed I was carrying boxes that said, 'vodka'."
Basically, Serck is my 80-something year old Children's Lit professor, the one that invites me back to introduce authors like Dan Gutman and Gordon Korman at Plum Creek. Nicest lady ever, and apparently, after 20 years of teaching I was her first student who offered to help her clean up after class. It was a night class and she brought out like 80 books per session. She had this rolling cart so she could tote them back and forth between that and her pride and joy - the only professor to have their own library on campus, organized and everything. Along with the cart were these boxes covered in Snoopy wrapping paper. One student, I can't remember which, asked her one class period why her boxes had Snoopy wrapping paper on them. Her explanation was that she and her mother were carrying boxes of children's books across campus and she was getting weird looks. It wasn't until later that they noticed the boxes they were carrying the children's books in were labeled "vodka." So her mother covered it with any mother's fool-proof solution, Snoopy wrapping paper.
Sara: "When in doubt, pelvic thrust."
For my Shakespeare class with Thurber we were divided into groups to present plays that we'd gone over that year for a our final project. Our group was assigned Twelfth Night so we did a sort of Whose Line Is It Anyway kind of style, there was a E-True Shakespearian Story, the Dating Game, Malvolio the Crocodile Hunter, and Censored version. There's this scene that gets a little, um, gross so we decided that I would be the "Censored Seductress" and when it got to that part I'd put on earmuff and hold up a sign that said "Censored". When that happened they would just mouth the words and make their actions very bold. This line came into play when trying to remember where we were at in the script.
Tomorrow's Word of the Day: "Weesle a very rare, undeservedly obsolete word meaning 'to ooze'." Can't wait to use that one.

No Coast, No Mercy.
Yes I skipped yesterday.
And the day before that.
But it wasn't my fault.
I've tried posting this three times now, let's hope this time it works.
Have I mentioned how much I hate this new blogger?
Okay, so flashback to Friday:
And the day before that.
But it wasn't my fault.
I've tried posting this three times now, let's hope this time it works.
Have I mentioned how much I hate this new blogger?
Okay, so flashback to Friday:
Early morning, seminars all day, derby at night, then some
crazy old lady convinced me and my boyfriend that we needed to go out after the
derby.
But we had fun so it was okay.
Besides, I got her back anyway, check Facebook. I'm assuming she's not grateful that a picture of her sleeping on Easter has surfaced especially after she told me I'd be dead meat if it did.
Bring it, I've got more.
Bring it, I've got more.
So, inservice.
Basically, all the employees from all the branches meet up
at the main library and listen to speeches the whole day.
This year was not so bad, at least the sessions were
interesting. Last year everything was aimed toward the new operating system we
were about to switch over to so it got old fast. This year I got to learn about
future technology aka 3D printers, and glasses that give you directions, take
pictures, play music, etc. Plus some genealogy from Sensei my former boss, and listen to a panel from the Journal Star about
reviewing books.
Plus there were a couple major guest speakers, one of them
being Mary Pipher who wrote “Reviving Ophelia” once upon a time. She told us a
story about being on the Oprah show, apparently the producers told her what her
opinions were supposed to be, ignoring her actual beliefs on the subject for
dramatic purposes. But she’s stubborn so she ignored them and answered
truthfully. She was immediately escorted out of the building after the show and
into the limo. No goodbye, though there was no hello either, she didn’t meet
Oprah until she was actually on stage being interviewed. So Oprah must be a
great actress, it always seems like she knows/gets along with her guests very
well.
Anyway, inservice is actually kind of a blast at times, mostly
cause I get to see all my friends from the home branch and jam with them. Our
new tradition is to head out to this Mexican restaurant during the lunch break,
awesomeness.
Though some people still say they’d rather get an
colonoscopy than go to inservice. But it’s not that bad, think of it as a nerd
convention. All of us together packed into one room talking about library
stuff, quoting literature and cheesy library-related jokes.
Plus some funny speakers that lead to a few good one-liners.
Things overheard at
Inservice:
-“and now I have time to talk about my cats”
-“anyone want to sing a medley of show tunes?”
-“somebody give me a g”
-“somebody give me a g”
-“now let’s take some time to talk about why you’re wearing
what you’re wearing.”
-“the new paint job - orange meets green meets purple which
wouldn’t be possible without the help of our decorator” *insert picture of
Stevie Wonder*
After 9 hours of that came the roller derby.
Mad Maxines dominated Springfield 165-97.
Flash Gloria hip-checked the other team's jammer into the scorekeeper's easel and took it down!
Oldest Sister was jealous as I take her kids all the time but she’s never been so she tagged along with me and the boyfriend. I’m turning into a pro at explaining the rules, or I better be as I've taught …at least like 8 people, but that doesn’t include the giant group of my former teachers that all came together a couple years ago.

Definitely worth it.
But then of course people realize how big of a derby nerd I am,
quoting their actual names and occupations whilst listing stats and strategies
along the way.
Oh well, it’s not like they don’t already think I’m a nerd
anyway.
Especially since yesterday I checked out the Spice Girls
greatest hits CD.
Yes they have one and it’s awesome.
Though I already own all the songs cause I have their previous
albums, well all except the last few.
Like I said, nerd.
BossLady and I were bonding over the Spice Girls, apparently
there’s a great band called the Space Curls that sing their songs in German.
It’s highly enjoyable.
Which just reminds me of this time in college, freshman year I lived with an awesome friend of mine from high school and I just remember I turned this next video on Youtube and we were moving her gigantic futon, like giant heavy obnoxious futon, and it gets to the first language she drops her side completely and bends over laughing. Cause she had no idea, just thinking it was the regular version.
Fantastic.
Fantastic.
"Girlfriend" Avril Lavigne in 8 languages
My favorite are probably Portuguese and Chinese, though
German does have its charm.
So Saturday:
Aside from Spice Girls flashbacks I worked 9-6, watched "Beginners" and "Page Eight" meanwhile uploading all my photos to Facebook. You can probably tell I was watching "Beginners" when I uploaded them as my captions were very much like lines in the movie.
If you haven't seen it you should, it's great.
Anyway, photos.
After months of meaning to do it and getting distracted.
Much like all the other stuff on my to-do-list.
At the moment it consists of formatting that camp song book, which I started uploading in January, coming up with a camp application form before the meeting next week, buying my niece a kick butt confirmation present - I was thinking roller skates, we decided at the roller derby she would rock it. Just gotta come up with a kick butt name. I'm still working on mine, have some possibilities but nothing solid. Or as cool as one of my cousins, another one of my cousins came up with it, his name is Jake so basing it on Jake Gyllenhaal his name would be Jake Gyllen-haul-your-ass-around-the-track - go grocery shopping for summer reading stuff, but I get to do that on the clock, what else....meet up with the Library Goddess and her current GA for GA stuff, oh and fill out the official paperwork for that to happen in the first place, and then there's camp.
Camp.
And all the planning that goes along with it.
Enough said.
Sunday:
Worked all day with some cool people, uploaded some volunteer stats, narrowed down more stuff for my next booklist, currently I'm jamming out with my big fat cat watching Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated.
It's them as teens living in Crystal Cove, teenage drama included, and hysterical.
"The last time you were that polite to me I spent a month locked in my bedroom listening to 'Now That's What I Call Break-up Songs 16'!"
"We've got something from every food group. salty, sugary, jerky and ice cream!"
"What's up with Freddy?"
"Oh, he's just in the zone. It'll pass. If not we'll spray him with the hose."
Highly enjoyable continuation of a classic, I'm diggin' it. This show never gets old.
Time for some Scale of Awesome Ratings:
"Beginners" Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer, Melanie Laurent
The story jumps back and forth between the present and multiple pasts. After his wife dies Plummer's character Hal comes out of the closet. Which is strange as he's been married to a women for decades, but she died so now he wants to live his life the way he actually wants to live it. He meets a guy, Luca from ER which totally threw me off, they fall in love, then Hal gets cancer and starts dying meanwhile Ewan, aka Oliver the main character and Hal's son, is narrating this whole thing whilst living his own life and being horribly horribly depressed because the majority of his scenes take place in the present after his father is dead.
I've probably lost you, sorry, he dies, Oliver is sad, he adopts Hal's dog and meets a girl who turns his life upside down.
Anyway, the monotone narration and random images that pop up on the screen were probably the best part as they were completely random and as I was watching I was also tagging pictures and writing captions so the captions I was writing came out as monotone narration in my head.
Scale of Awesome says around 6/10, I was entertained, I love Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer definitely deserved the Oscar, but it was horribly horribly depressing. Even when it wasn't.
"Page Eight" Bill Nighy, Rachel Weisz, Ralph Fiennes
Basically Bill Nighy's character Johnny is given a secret file by his boss/best friend exposing a huge secret. Then his best friend dies, not mysteriously it was legitimate, and suddenly people are out to get Johnny because of the information that's been uncovered. Though he wasn't the only one who received the file apparently he's the only one being watched, along the way he meets his neighbor Rachel Weisz's character Nancy who's brother was murdered overseas.
I got lost. I checked it out cause it has Rachel Weisz on it and it was about secret agents and it sounded interesting, but it wasn't so much. I mean, there were moments, like many other movies, it did have its moments.
To be fair I was doing about 8 other things at the time so, much like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, I probably would have liked it better if I were paying more attention.
Scale of Awesome says 4/10. If it was better it would have held my attention instead of transferring it onto something else.
So there are those, Scooby Doo gets a 10/10 in case anyone was wondering, and now I'm off to make some food though Chinese takeout sounds really good...

"What's grad school? Is that like college for old people?"
a kid so lovingly asked me yesterday at the tournament.
No son, that's like school for crazy people.
Cause we go back voluntarily.
So there's gotta be something going on in our headspace.
Especially when it involves getting together with classmates and working on homework until 1AM.
But we're halfway there! I'm gonna pick up takeout and we'll finish tomorrow night after work.
Which is good, as it's due tomorrow night.
Then we'll be done for another couple days. Before we have other assignments to move on to.
Like presentations.
Should start on that, huh?
Eh, I've got a week to come up with something.
It's only like a 3 minute speech, I'll come up with a powerpoint and wing it. But that's for a later date.
Today was pretty good. I got to jam all day with Space Cadet!
Remember how we have random debates and pick up useless information?
Famous debates include:
-Who would win in a fight, a sea cow or a snow leopard? My Life in Closed Captions: I guess I'll go on home, it's late. There'll be to...
-the volume level of my headphones, also in the above post,
-and of course my hair color was always subject to debate. My Life in Closed Captions: To dye, or not to dye? That is the question.
My favorite useless information so far is probably that in 1865, in the war between Uruguay and Brazil, one of Uruguay's ships ran out of cannon balls so they fired chunks of stale Dutch cheese out of the cannons. One of them dismasted an enemy ship and killed two sailors.
Add these to the list:
-Giant panda bears are actually considered to be part of the raccoon family, not the bear family.
-During WW2 the US Air Force captured millions of bats, and planned to make them carry tiny bombs, fly into buildings and explode. But the war ended before that could happen.
-A pound of feathers actually weighs more than a pound of gold, but it has something to do with how much is in a pound - they have different measurement units.
-"July" was named after Julius Caesar by Mark Antony.
-Lewis P. Toppel invented a coughing cigarette box back in 1972 so that when you opened the pack a hacking noise came out to defer people from smoking.
There are more, but I'll spare you.
We are truly Sleep-Deprived Space Cadets.
AND NOW people can officially say we're not the brightest bulbs in the bunch cause it took us until about 1PM to realize, "hey, it's kinda dark in here."
Yep. Two banks of lights directly above the desk were out half the day.
Brilliance at work there, but nobody noticed.
It didn't affect them anyway, it was just above the desk.
We pulled it off. Though she turned it on shortly after. No fun.

2009 Jabbawockeez at halftime of CIT
ah, college memories. that was my english partner.
CIT as in Concordia Invitational Tournament - basketball - and they had a talent show to determine who would compete during the halftime of the championship game.
The baseball boys got beat out by these guys:
2009 CUNE football team dancing to Womanizer and Single Ladies
i especially like number 4, he gets pretty into it.
And I'm out. Big day tomorrow - sleep then work then homework tomorrow. Plus I'm totally missing Grams' birthday party, though technically her birthday isn't until the 28th. I'll stop by then.
It was amusing, I was there last year on her birthday - it was myself, the Cool Aunt, Kyle and Grams. The Cool Aunt has some serious cake-cutting skills, even if they don't involve straight lines.

"Here's a warning, Happy Birthday."
You know what's even better than getting pulled over?
Getting pulled over while all your family is there to witness it.
Both your parents and all of your siblings.
On your birthday.
Yeah.
That was fun.
Apparently going 35 in a 25 is illegal.
I made it all the way to the driveway when he pulled me over.
"So it's your birthday huh?"
"Yep. And my niece's baptism. Hence all the cars."
"Well, here's a warning. Happy birthday."
He thought I wasn't familiar with the area and didn't realize it was 25 and not 35.
I didn't mention I lived there for four years.
But I SWEAR that road is 35.
Or at least it used to be when I lived there.
Whatever.
It was a warning.
I can live with that.
Might have it framed.
I never get warnings.
It's not like I speed a lot.
Or get pulled over a lot.
Just lately.
Should work on that.
So birthdays.
Yeah.
My niece got baptized, that was cool. Hung out with the family most of the afternoon. Helped Favorite Sister-In-Law with some homework. Kind of my niche apparently, technology-based assignments.
Last time I helped her make a really kickass powerpoint.
This time it's something about tracks and links and all that.
Seemed pretty cool.
After that I jammed with Bubby at their house since Squirt had a tournament in Omaha and both parentals went to watch.
We ordered pizza, ate ice-cream cake and watched movies.
He's so funny.
Bubby: "It's your birthday, so I'm paying for the pizza."
Me: "No you're not. You're twelve. I'm putting it on my card."
Bubby: "I'm gonna put money in your wallet."
Me: "You don't know where my wallet is."
Bubby: "I'm gonna hide money in your car."
Me: "Yeah, I'll find it 2 months later and be like, twelve bucks, what?"
Goof.
My family rocks.
Got a vacuum.
And a blender.
And some dishes, cookware, and clothes.
Stoked.
And really curious about the blender.
I broke my last one.
Wasn't technically my fault.
Stupid dishwasher.
That thing hates me.
As do most of my appliances.
Or at least that's my excuse for not using them.
But the dishwasher needs a name.
Like, in college, we had this really annoying heater/air conditioner thing that everyone called "The whale" or Moby or whatever, cause it was like super loud and obnoxious and turned on and off at odd hours.
I think I called it Roberta.
Don't ask.
Anyway, it was obnoxious, and somehow having names for things that are obnoxious makes life easier.
Cause if they do something wrong you have something to yell and blame it on.
Like, "Shut up Roberta, I'm trying to sleep!"
or
"Damnit, Thomas, why don't you work?" which I yell quite frequently at my navigational system.
As in Cindy Thomas.
Not as in Tom-Tom.
And yes that's a Women's Murder Club reference.
Just had to clear that up.
Not that I want to yell at Cindy Thomas.
She rocks.
And she can find out secrets and scandals and all that, she's a good reporter.
So I called my nav system Thomas cause she can get me out of jams.
Though now, since I haven't updated her in forever, she gets me into more jams than she gets me out of.
Apparently I had to clear that up as well.
Moving on.
Dishwasher.
I think I'm gonna call it...
Lucille?
Hmmm....
Yeah.
Lucille.
Lucille the dishwashing machine.
Works.
No, I have no explanation for that name either.
Lucille is evil and she hates me.
Or maybe I'm just using too much soap.
More to come on that later.
You know what?
I love teachers.
I do.
About 80% of my friends and family are, or were at some point, teachers.
Both of my parents were teachers.
But the thing about teachers? Is that they know exactly what to say.
All the time.
That can make them very obnoxious patrons.
Like, if they have fines over the limit and they can't check out.
Today I got hit with, "So, as a taxpaying citizen, you're saying that I'm not allowed to check out books."
Snap.
It's not me saying it personally, it's the system that won't let you check out.
But they don't get that it's the system, they think it's me.
Um.
Supervisor?
Can I just say how glad I am, in those instances, that I am physically the lowest on the totem pole of desk workers.
Well, I guess second-lowest now.
But there are so many people above me that I can pass that off to, it's fantastic!
Not so fantastic for them, but still.
Great for me!
And they're supervisors for a reason, they can handle it.
I cannot.
Apparently.
Which sucks, as there's usually one of those instances once a week.
I'm a magnet, I swear.
But this one wasn't just me, there were multiple staff members around who thought the instance was a little over the top.
Whatever, it's done.
Like the warning for speeding.
It happens, you keep your head down and move on.
This is especially helpful in circumstances when you have stalkers.
Keep your head down and just keep moving.
Did I mention that today was a day?
I have this old lady stalker woman person chick that follows me around and talks to me about her personal life and it's really awkward, so usually when I see her my coworkers cover while I go and roam until she goes away.
She was in today, but got distracted in youth services.
It's okay, The New Girl shielded me with her sweater.
She too has people who ask random library questions in order to just speak with her.
I think we're too nice.
Maybe that's it.
I gotta be meaner.
Like stone-cold mean face or something.
Wordie says I have the glare down.
Like down pat. (is it down pact or down pat?)
I just don't use it.
Often.
Just on old boyfriends.
I know I'm rambling.
I haven't posted in two days.
Or checked Facebook.
People think I went underground or something.
Song of the day before I think of something else to ramble about.
Sometimes I like being ironic.
"Zip-a-dee-doo-dah" Song of the South
this song is the only thing satisfactual about that movie.
Did you know that the star - James Baskett - wasn't even able to attend the premiere because Atlanta - where Disney introduced it himself - was still segregated?
Ridiculous.
Sorry, I'll stop with all the rambling.
You know what is satisfactual?
The Civil Wars and their iTunes live album.
Had to download it, it's fantastic.
Totally jammed in the backroom to it today.
The backroom is great for escapes, by the way.
Alright, Carter and I are out before I can think up more tangents.
Wonderful feeling, Wonderful day.

The First Aid Crusade
It's FRIDAY!! I feel like jumping up and down and singing Katy Perry.
Actually I really don't, but I mean I could.
You know, I could.
But I won't.
Cause it would freak out my cat.
But maybe I should, just to see if it would freak out my cat.
But no, I'll pass. My headache finally went away and I don't wanna get it back.
"Quelling a rebellion with a fork."
That's nice.
So I'm hooked back on Chuck.
Just in time since I have like four other series checked out. I always get distracted by one of my own in this situation, then they stockpile and I return half of them cause I'm like, "why was i interested in that in the first place?"
But now that Chuck is over I can finally catch up. Don't tell me what happens, I'm a season behind! Same with Leverage.
Anyway, the day flew by pretty quickly, as they all have lately. I hope it stays that way. Like that I keep enjoying my job. I don't want to get all the way through the program and then get bored with it.
Not that I will. Cause there's something new every day.
Did some fun supplies stuff today. Basically, once a year I go through all the first-aid kits, yes all of them, there are many many multiples - like one every 30 feet, and make sure they have everything on the list and it's not expired.
I'm calling it my First Aid Crusade. Got four down and probably that many more to go, but I'm having all these flashbacks from First Aid class in college and thinking I should get re-certified cause pretty sure that's going to expire soon.
That class was cool. Jammed in the back with Melanie, made sarcastic comments on all the retro videos and people faking injuries. Things taped to body parts so it looks like they're impaled.
"Is the scene safe?"
What are you supposed to do if the answer is no? Just stare at the guy who has a branch sticking out of his leg?
"Oh, it was a horrible skiing accident. I really should have watched out for trees."
You're a brilliant one there George. (Please tell me you get that.)
or
"I think you're dehydrated. Maybe you should sit down."
Dude, he's sweating compulsively, his face is red and he can't breathe, of course he shouldn't be standing!
Back to the Crusade.
The reference workroom had a serious amount of rubbing alcohol, which I thought was funny. It's like a stockpile or something. And like 3 handfulls of antibiotic cream, which none of the other kits had. Then 5 eye patches but no eye wash. I had to share the wealth a bit.
So that was supplies, I also cleaned all the computer monitors on the first floor, that was gross and made me want to sanitize everything. I'm scared to do the keyboards, that will be grosser.
It was one of those random jump from task to task days, cause aside from all that I was still compiling ideas for my booklist and working at all the desks.
Aaannd after work I got all my homework stuff done!!
Woohoo! Finished the paper, posted it, added more to the MARC stuff, e-mailed the prof, sent my thank you letter's and an e-mail to the one that wasn't there, attempted to figure out my summer class schedule, but as it isn't up yet I asked the Library Goddess instead. She knows everything library anyway, that's why I call her the Library Goddess.
Now I can sleep properly. And get stoked for margaritas and fajitas with the Cool Aunt tomorrow.
Which is good, I need a changeup. I've been eating a lot of fruit lately as it is overflowing in my fridge. Like literally, you can open the door and on the left is liquor cause I rarely drink it so it builds up, and on the right is fruit. I got pears, apples, bananas, grapes, oranges, more apples, clementines. It's a stockpile.
Everything today is a stockpile, apparently. I think I just enjoy using that word.
Stockpile.
Stockpile.
STOCKPILE!
Word of the day.
But Mexican sounds good, especially the jalapeno margaritas.
With all my rambling and noun-age you're probably thinking that I'm drinking one right now so I'll move on.
Is noun-age a word?
I'm making it one.
Song for the day:
"Have It All" Jeremy Kay
yes, i've posted this before but that was back in november. and i love it. so just go with it.
cause it's worth listening to.
Sleeping in tomorrow, woohoo! Off for the weekend. Lunch with the Cool Aunt and Madre, then more sleep or Downton Abbey maybe. But most likely Chuck. Yeah Chuck.
"Sometimes the nerd gets the girl." awwww, so true Chuck.
OUT!
Actually I really don't, but I mean I could.
You know, I could.
But I won't.
Cause it would freak out my cat.
But maybe I should, just to see if it would freak out my cat.
But no, I'll pass. My headache finally went away and I don't wanna get it back.
