Huzzah for a day off.
Slept in, it was fabulous.
Watched a ton of my DVR'd X Games - winter edition, go Kelly Clark!
Did a ton of laundry - and folded most of it...
Did a ton of editing - and am loving it.
And played a ton of Lords of the Realm 2 - just cause I could. Made it to level three then looked up and realized it was 11:30 and I should probably go to bed.
See, I didn't think I was one of those gamers that would play stuff like that for hours and not even realize it, but then I found that game and it just never ends.
Blame my brother, he's the one that gave it to me in the first place.
So I was semi-productive, right?
Oh and I watched 2 episodes of Hollywood Game Night - holy crap Angie Harmon is competitive... - and then of course The Blacklist - intensity man.
So I'm boring, and I'm sorry. I'll be more exciting tomorrow cause it's date night.
Today was just too cold to do anything.
Oh and I finally set up my fancy new coffee maker. It's fantastic. The only problem is now I have three - yes three coffeemakers. They all work, I just don't know what to do with them.
Guess I could have a coffee taste-off.
With like 10 of my friends, cause they each make a ton.
Yes "ton" is the word of the day. Pretty much every day of my life cause there's always a ton of things going on and it seems the only word worthy to capture that amount specifically.
I guess there are others.
Massive.
Large.
Mahoosive.
Oh, and I wrote thank you notes to the professors who wrote me recommendation letters for grad school.
I don't know why mahoosive made me think of that.
Well, it went: Mahoosive.
Moose.
Gazelles.
Gazelle swagger.
Fiction Writing.
ZH.
Long story.
I realize I'm making no sense.
Sorry.
I think it's all the caffeine from the new coffeemaker.
Or I'm just losing my mind, I did go outside in shorts today to take the trash out.
Which would be fine but it's like 10 degrees out.
But I'm an idiot like that. College classmates used to yell at me cause I would never wear coats, just hoodies, and then Sketch would be like, um, yeah. Have you ever met her before?
"It's cold out and I'm not wearing pants, where are you?"
Shorts. I was wearing shorts. They're not pants, but it came out wrong.
Speaking of Sketch, it's her birthday today. So in honor of that I shall re-post two of my favorite Sketch-centric Sketch and Edit's in her honor. Cause I can. And let's face it this post was going nowhere anyway.
Originally posted here and here. Should really make an inventory post for these things. Here's links to this particular storyline if you get lost.
First was this: Sketch Gets Some Flowers
Next was this: Sketch and Edit Buy Some Plants
Code reference comes from here: Sketch and Edit Cook a Turkey
Sketch Meets the Parents
*Sketch enters front door and slams it*
Sketch – “Would someone please tell me what is up with guys?!”
Edit from couch – “You don't really expect me to have an answer to that do you?”
S – “He wants me to meet his mother.”
E – “What?!”
S – “Yeah.”
E – “I didn’t know it was that serious!”
S – “Neither did I!”
E – “When?”
S – “Now, tonight, I gotta go get ready.”
E – “You’re shaking!”
S – “I’m meeting the parents! Who meets the parents on the third date?!”
E – “A mama’s boy?”
S – “But seriously? His mother? Seriously?”
E – “Where does she live?”
S – “Over on Elm Street.”
E – “Ah, suburbia, where they tear down the trees then name streets after them.”
S – “I gotta find something to wear, come on.” *Edit jumps off couch and follows Sketch upstairs*
E – “You’re asking me for fashion advice? Really?”
S – “You’re my only option.”
E – “Good point.”
*Sketch goes into closet while Edit sits on bed*
Sketch returns with dress – “What do you think of this dress?”
E – “Ummm, stick some candles in it and make a wish?”
S – “Bad, got it. Moving on.” *goes back into closet and yells* “Why am I doing this again?”
E – “I don’t know, some plantman-induced psychosis?”
*Sketch re-enters in dress*
E – “Oh, don’t even try using the laser vision on me with that dress on.”
S – “Bad?”
E – “It’s…interesting.”
S – “Interesting as in not pretty. Got it.” *goes back into closet and yells* “But seriously, why am I doing this?”
E – “Love is a damn crazy thing.”
S – “Is it really?”
E – “I don’t know, that’s what my college roommate told me when she was drunk on her 21st birthday and I had to take care of her.”
S – “Point taken.” *returns* “What about this one?”
E – “Much better.”
S – “Okay, makeup.” *move into bathroom across the hall, Edit leans in the hallway* “But, it’s like, he calls me and acts all sweet and asks me out to dinner. So I say yes, clearly stating I have no other plans. Then he drops the bomb. ‘Oh, it’s at my mother’s. So dress nice. Okay, see you at seven!’ CLICK! He hangs up! But what was I supposed to do? I can’t say I have plans when he knows I clearly have no plans. So there was no escape route. But, I like him. I mean, I think I like him. Maybe it will be okay.”
E – “Do you need me for this conversation?”
S – “Maybe she won’t be this horrible horrible bitch that I can imagine her being because her son is such a jerk.”
E – “And yet you continue to date him.”
S – “Well, not really.”
E – “You’re meeting his mother! That’s like the definition of dating!”
S – “You’re really not helping my nerves here.” *turns away from mirror* “What do you think?”
E – “Hot.”
S – “But not like slutty. Cause that would be bad.”
E – “Nope, not slutty enough to be a hoe yet not nun-like enough to be celibate.”
S – “Um, thanks?” *Sketch starts downstairs Edit follows*
E – “So, what is plant man’s real name anyway?”
S – “No.”
E – “He’s Chinese? Is that his first or last?”
S – “Absolutely not, cause you’ll run a background check or hack into his computer. No!”
E – “Oh come on! How am I supposed to be petty and judgmental without having all the facts?”
*Sketch glares*
E – “What?”
S – “I’m trying to imagine you with less personality.”
Edit grins – “How’s that working for you?”
S – “Kiss it.”
E – “Suck it!” *sketch opens door* “Good luck!”
S – “Watch out for the code!” *closes door, Edit crashes on couch with phone*
A Nightmare on Elm Street aka Sketch Uses the Code
*Edit’s phone beeps*
Text message from Sketch: “as;dflkjasfdlparlay”
*Edit dials*
*Sketch’s phone rings at dinner table, Mother glares*
Edit – “Curses, King Henry has cut off my head!”
S – “I have to take this, excuse me.” *goes outside while Edit rambles*
E – “You need to come home because I am decapitated. And even though I can still talk it is, in fact, an emergency and I need you to come and drive me to the hospital. Now. You need to come now, there’s blood all over the couch and I’m hungry and I can’t eat without a head because I can’t see the food to eat it and I don’t have a mouth to put it in and then there will be no food because I have no head so then I will die, like actually die and…”
S – “We’re clear, I’m outside. Are you watching The Tudors again?”
E – “Yep. Bad?”
S – “You know Hitler?”
E – “Not on a first name basis, but yes, I’m familiar with him.”
S – “Imagine him with long brown hair staring at you while you’re trying to eat a salad.”
E – “Is this with or without the mustache?”
S – “You need to come get me.”
E – “You don’t think they’re going to see through that?”
S – “I know. I hate you.”
E – “You like this guy right?”
S – “I’m eating dinner with his mother, I think that’s a definite sign.”
E – “Well, it’s not like you had much choice in the matter, but you seem to like the guy and you glow when you come home and you’re all happy giddy Sketch all the time. He seems worth all this and you don’t want to throw that away because you can’t stand to be in the same room with his mother for more than an hour, do you?”
S – “No.”
E – “So just finish the salad-”
S – “But she’s staring at me!”
E – “Then stare back!”
S – “What if her jaw unhinges and she bites off my head?”
E – “Well, then we’re screwed cause I’m already decapitated.”
S – “Who will drive us to the hospital?”
E – “Plantman?”
S – “Maybe.”
E – “Oh, is he not on our side anymore?”
S – “Undetermined. But he can’t think it’s going well, right? I mean, when your mother grills your dates about their personal lives and finds a way to make every answer sound like they’re a hillbilly with no hope or future do you think it’s going well?”
E – “Don’t know, haven’t really had a relationship that’s lasted longer than a mento so there’s been no need for introductions.”
S – “That’s cause you’re a commitment-phobe.”
E – “Look who’s talking.”
S – “Hey, I’m here aren’t I?”
E – “Yes, but you don’t want to be. Just breathe, go back inside, finish the salad and say it’s a school night so you need to get back to work on lesson plans. Which it is, and you do. I’ll see you when you get home.”
S – “If I don’t jump out on the interstate first.”
E – “Don’t jump out on the interstate – drive a motorcycle and get someone to door you, it’s a much better way to go.”
S – “Alright. I’m going back in. Thanks.”
E – “Anytime. By the way, was that a ‘parlay’ at the end of that text?”
S – “I thought it was fitting.”
E – “I think we found our new codeword.”
BTW that phone call actually happened. My college roommate coded me and I responded with a decapitated rambling.
It was quite fascinating really.
Alright, that's all I got. I hope you all had an awesome Monday.

I close my eyes and fly out of my mind, Into the fire
Felt like I was gonna pass out today at work.
I seriously thought it was appendicitis for a while cause I was burning up and every time I stood up I wanted to fall over.
Which killed the whole standing thing.
But of all the days to be in physical pain it happened to be the least busy of them all.
So that made it bearable I guess.
Think I had like 10 stats total, which is really bad since I was there all day.
Though technically the first hour I was guarding the music CD's - oh yeah, there's a guard desk now and it's only gonna get worse from there if the rumors are true - then I was at the front desk for a hour which is when I got all of my stats before leaving for lunch and then a meeting and then checking in 8 carts in the backroom in an hour leading into the final hour where we had like 10 people in the building total.
Ribfest, ugh.
I did get to see my adopted little sister though so the day wasn't a total waste.
And the meeting was good.
Our Youth Services crew is always amusing.
When talking about collection we told our commander in chief - aka Cabin Fever - to "buy the interesting ones and skip the boring stuff."
We're so specific.
And helpful like that.
But that's okay, she wouldn't be the commander in chief if she didn't know what she was doing.
So that was work.
After work I did some more laundry and attempted a Twin Peaks marathon.
I made it through one episode and went....that's messed up.
So no more of that.
Which is so WEIRD cause I'm usually all over those cult shows.
Cult show as in underrated, not as in, you know, like a show about cults.
Cause those are bad.
Cults, not shows about cults.
Though I'm guessing due to the subject matter those shows are also bad.
But possibly interesting.
If you followed that you're a genius.
I lost myself.
New topic.
Anyway, so to drown out all that weirdness I turned on some Wipeout - cause that doesn't have "weird" written all over it - and played some Lords of the Realm 2 - also doesn't scream "weird" even when played by a girl in 2013 sitting next to a cat shaved like a lion.
That's right, it's back!
Or it should be!
But I have a feeling if they tried to revamp it it'd turn out like the new You Don't Know Jack game.
Not as good as the original.
Yay 90's.
Don't like the new host.
Not the same.
Kills the whole game.
Anyway, I'm a nerd.
But you knew that, it's part of the reason you're here.
So nerdy in fact that the nights I don't spend with my boyfriend I spend with my cat playing video games, watching TV, editing or doing homework.
Cause other than that I really have no life.
Which is fine by me, actually I kind of prefer it that way.
Though this weekend has a lot going on. Golf tournament on Saturday followed by a softball tournament on Sunday.
That's right, 2G's at it again!! but this time we're on a new course. Hope their drink cart lady follows us around too.
Our drinking team has a golfing problem.
Cause we suck, but when there is liquor we don't notice we suck, we just get louder. And then everyone wants to join our team.
No, Pastor's pretty good, as is Homey G-Wigger now that she's got her Packer clubs.
But we really don't care about winning, our only goal is to beat Hillman and his team of ringers.
Although apparently Juwanna - aka the high school roommate - is playing this year so a new challenge.
It's on.
And that's all I got.
Must put laptop down so I can pack for massive weekend.
On to the music:
Throwback Thursday
Song You Know But Forgot You Knew It
Sunny Came Home - Shawn Colvin
yay 90's.

all your base are belong to us
I love old video games.
And computer games.
I'm back to being hooked on Lords of the Realm 2.
aka a computer game that practically no one remembers.
circa 1996.
It's pathetic really.
Not the game, my bringing it back and how often I play it.
But it's a break from the norm.
Which is sometimes what's needed after a day in public service.
Not that today was bad.
The day itself went by fairly quickly.
It's just me that's off.
Soon as I got home I totally crashed and burned.
Been super tired lately, no idea why.
Need to start going to bed earlier perhaps. But I get distracted and don't end up looking up at the clock or don't end up getting back until like midnight. And then of course I can't fall asleep right away even if I want to.
But whatever, I'll work on it eventually.
For the moment it's 1:30AM but I don't have to go in to work tomorrow until 4, yeehaw.
And after that I'm headed over to Oldest Sister's to eat dinner and carve pumpkins.
However, at some point today I need to be up so I can go buy the pumpkins.
So I can't sleep 'til 3:30 like normal.
Bummer.
So that was pretty much my day. Work and LOTR2. And now the Husker game on in the background.
Oh, and at some point during the day my parents went to lunch and ran into the boyfriend's parents.
Which was apparently such a crazy thing it garnered both a text from my mother and a call from my father.
Since he never calls I thought there was a family emergency so I called him right back.
Not-so emergency, more-so amusing anecdote. Okay, we're good.
Oh, and apparently BossLady is a clown.
Part-time.
I told her there should be a joke in their somewhere.
Like, geez, my supervisor is such a clown.
Which she said, not me.
I should have got it in writing.
I take it back.
So THAT was my day.
On to tomorrow.
Well, first some Queen.
Then some sleep.
and THEN on to tomorrow.

Day off = NCIS:LA, Napping, Homework, & Lords of the Realm 2
Was totally boring today, it was fantastic.
Slept in until noon, ate a peanut butter and banana sandwich cause they rock.
Watched NCIS: LA pretty much all day. Still am, in fact. Got season three from Target, I actually like the show now. Before I thought it was dumb cause it wasn't the original but now with Deeks it's not so bad.
Played some Lords of the Realm 2 on Kate cause she's XP and it won't work on Ziva with Vista. They need to remake that one. And Carmen Sandiego. That one is still wildly popular, they had the series, then the animated one, and they're in talks of making a movie but it still the old version from pre-2007 and you have to get in online cause it's not in stores.
Made some pasta stuff for supper, that also rocks.
Took a nap with my big fat cat. It's no wonder my back is messed up, I can't go a night without him sleeping on my stomach. It's both cute and obnoxious. Mentor suggests buying a heating pad and putting it elsewhere on the bed to see if he would sleep on top of that.
Finished all my homework for the week. Had a Reference assignment due tomorrow at midnight but as I'm headed out to see the boyfriend tomorrow night it was tonight or fail. Which is fine, I had planned it out earlier anyway and it's best not to procrastinate in grad school or it will kick your ass.
Now it's more NCIS: LA and sleep as tomorrow it's back to work.
But since I work the weekend I don't have to go in Monday until 4.
It feels so weird to actually stay home and work the weekend. I feel like I'm always going somewhere like class or the farm. I haven't been home home for a weekend in a while.
I know, I'm boring. I'm sorry. I'll have more to post about tomorrow.
For now, enjoy this classic.

"like sea salt and cool ranch"
Today feels like two different days meshed together cause there was the leaving the apartment at 6:30 to get to class by 8 and staying there until 11:30 to learn about ILS systems.
And then there was the later day when I came home and did a bunch of homework and played Lords of the Realm 2 for like an hour.
Which I blame on my brother cause he's the one that gave me the game in the first place.
But I have to play it on Kate, cause Ziva is Vista and Vista hates all my games.
I figured I needed a break. You know the homework is madness when it makes me space out on a WMC day.
Not the official day, but the day it first came out.
Yes, I'm a nerd but you knew that already.
October 12th, 2007 it's on my door on a giant picture drawn for me by Sketch of Lindsay, Cindy, Jill and Claire. It's pretty sweet.
Or you could go with this version.
This is what happens when your best friend is an artist and you sit in the same position for a while.
It doesn't help if you have the blase personality that leads you to say, yeah go for it.
You should have seen the time she attacked my entire arm with a stack of highlighters it was ridiculous.
But I like it cause it's got all the symbols for Claire the ME and Lindsay's got the badge, Jill's got the scales and Thomas has the AP for journalism.
Dig it.
Anyway, so it's madness if I space something that big.
Cause I'm a nerd and am still crazy about a show that got cancelled in May 13th, 2008.
And it's what? October 13th, 2012.
So it's been a while.
And most of them have moved on, Lindsay Boxer has moved from San Francisco to Boston and has developed an accent, adopted a crazy family and befriended a new ME.
Jill Bernhardt defied gravity up in a space for a season, then donned Mata Hari's stockings on Warehouse.
Claire Washburn gave up the scalpel, divorced Ed and got married to Leon Vance. She's also made appearances on Bones (again as a wife though her husband was murdered), then became a Doctor on Parenthood.
Cindy Thomas has stopped by Ugly Betty, The Good Wife, Person of Interest, and Blue Bloods. She's currently hitting it off with the Botwin family on Weeds.
Even Jacobi made an appearance last week on Castle. I saw him and went good god, don't make him the murderer please.
They attempted to do that with Myka Bering on Castle a couple seasons ago but I was having none of it.
Anyway, the one season is all we had and for some reason they're refusing to release it on DVD which is weird because Rizzoli and Isles is huge - or it was - so you'd think that would help DVD sales.
Oh well, it'll happen eventually.
I still have yet to watch the unaired pilot just because if I do then it's officially over and I've seen everything.
Like I said, nerd.
What else can I talk about that's not Women's Murder Club or Lords of the Realm related?
Oh right, class.
Left at 6:30, stopped and got some much-needed coffee - "that's not coffee that's diabetes on ice" yes I had to have at least one WMC reference in this post - and learned all about ILS systems aka Koha, Millenium, Evergreen, Apollo, etc.
Oh, ILS stands for Integrated Library System. I forgot I'm not supposed to use jargon, my bad.
It's basically the automated systems that libraries use to keep track of who has what checked out, when things are due, what's available in the catalog, etc.
So we learned about different options available and then had some interesting discussions.
And see, discussions in that class are especially fun because the teacher also works for the same library system that I do so whenever there's some sort of reference she looks at me and smiles. Like today we were talking about the difference between the libraries so die-hard on being first that they voluntarily become guinea pigs to test out programs and the libraries that hold on to their old programs until they die. But we agreed we were more like the former when we took on Koha. And then how after we got it and made them get like 20 million updates it was safe for everyone else to join in.
I believe my exact quote was, "yeah everyone's like this system is great! and we went, what the hell are you talking about? our transition was miserable!"
But it's all good now. We've all adjusted to the new system and have learned the shortcuts to teach the patrons.
And actually it's nice now with all the updates because when you do a search on the PAC computers it doesn't pick up results that are located in other libraries in the consortium.
Cause that sucked. People were coming up claiming we had stuff but it was actually in Beatrice, ugh they were not happy.
Anyway, enough library ramblings. You should watch this clip because it's fantastic.
Like immediately, I'm still dying.
"only a woman would call someone their friend and then bitch about them for ninety minutes"
Wildly inappropriate but highly entertaining. Had to go back and tape it. Nasim Pedrad is hysterical.
I haven't watched SNL in ages, I'm so behind but I saw Christina Applegate was hosting and I'm up so why not.
Though my favorite Christina Applegate SNL episode was of course the Matt Foley episode.
"I wanna live in a van down by the river" they totally lost it.
I don't think that table was supposed to break.
Alright, on to the music before I start rambling about something else.
Song You Know But Forgot You Knew It
Cold Day In July - Dixie Chicks live
it's actually a hot day in October but it came up on shuffle tonight and is now stuck in my head.
"but if you've seen any lifetime movie you just know he's gonna kill you."
