Remember how I was so excited about having a day off and all the stuff I could do cause it was my day off which implied that there would be off-ness, meaning off of stress and off of work and off of people and off of just general life-ness.
You know, just off?
Spent my day "off" doing homework.
So now it's just more like off-balance cause all I did was read and post and read and post and read some more and post some more. And none of it is textbook reading, just online journals, which I was grateful for earlier cause it means it's less expensive and easier to access but I was at the point where I couldn't stand to stare at my screen any longer SO I took a shower, made a smoothie, and watched Battleship.
Whilst the movie itself was complete crap - I love Liam Neeson, I do, but it was so choppy scene-wise with really crappy dialogue, and seemed basically like "Battle: Los Angeles" but set in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and focused on the Navy instead of Marines - it re-upped my sanity because it was a break from my computer screen. Granted it was yet another screen but that one is bigger and farther away and didn't have written dialogue I had to follow along with.
Though I did learn that with their database system you can set it so it reads it to you and you can make them read it in an accent, so that part was enjoyable.
Anyway, Battleship gets about a 5/10 on the Scale of Awesome - it had its moments but they were few and far between.
Seriously, it is Battle: Los Angeles but on water, look at this:
Battleship 2012
Battle: Los Angeles 2011
Both have the two token females - aka one that's in the trenches and the other is the love interest
Both have one big named actor plus one semi-known actor and then a bunch of little people
Both involve aliens landing coming in gigantor ships
Both involve military members as the main characters
Both have cheesy looking aliens
Both have crappy dialogue
And Liam Neeson is in more of Clash of the Titans than he is in this - which means barely 10 minutes, but that's okay cause they made up for that in Wrath of the Titans.
And I can't take Rihanna seriously in an acting role, I'm sorry.
Okay, as I'm apparently quite rambly at the moment I will now find some music and post this before I move on to things like community analysis in the New York public libraries, social contracts, reference databases, ALA standards, or RUSA guidelines because I'm sure you'd tune out.
"Vienna" - Billy Joel
love this one.
or check out this awesome cover by Steve Dalton
he has a lot of good ones on his channel
and, in honor of it's return:
10 days and counting...
when will you realize, vienna waits for you?
I could write a blog. I have thoughts.
Life at the library, adventures with friends and other hysterics...

She's been living in her white bread world...
The library may be a dangerzone at the moment, but at least we're still us.
I enjoy us.
We're quite humorous.
Especially when we jump in on the big money lottery together.
And we're too nice to pull a cut-throat Jersey construction worker move...or at least I think we are.
Administration actually has their own pool going too, which makes me laugh that there's two of us.
Public service is gonna dominate.
Just saying.
Even if by chance we did win - you know that 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000.... chance - I'd probably still stick around.
Library has become my life.
Not sure what else I would do.
Before I was lazy. Not like super lazy, but I would have been content to do nothing, lay around watch TV and all that.
Now on my day off I go crazy. Force myself to take a nap or something. I know, my life is so rough whatever.
I got the weekend off for the first time this month so I headed out to the farmhouse. Granted I have class on Sunday so it's not completely stress-free.
Speaking of, should probably have finished my homework tonight but got caught up in Swamp People.
Yes, that Swamp People.
Dad keeps calling and leaving me messages about Swamp People and all these episodes he's taping.
So, when I get the chance for a weekend off and decide to come home for the first time in months I'm bombarded with the awesomeness that is cajun accents and humor.
I enjoy that now Liz has her own boat and a female partner, that's fantastic. They make me laugh. She's my favorite, loved her with Troy. "Choot 'em, Lizbet!"
Mom bought me a shirt with her on it.
And got Dad one with Willy on it.
Cause apparently that's his favorite.
Which makes me laugh.
If you've seen the show you'll know what I'm talking about.
Though he is good with a treble hook.
Pics of the day:

we have little magnets that label the sections of the nonfiction. this one's a little questionable. actually led to a humorous debate this morning. i said it's a verb but not a noun. one of the awesome aides argued that it could be different groups of fish so that would make them fishes. hmm.
it's always amusing when you get a bunch of english majors together and debate about something completely pointless in the AM.
the plural of deer is deer.
the plural of moose is moose.
the plural of goose is geese.
the plural of mouse is mice.
the plural of fish is....
love it.
that is one bigass bag of popcorn. compare it to the size of the chair or the fridge in the background. sometimes there are random snacks in the staffroom. i'm guessing this one made an appearance because of the destruction area that we call the second floor. and sections of the first.
this whole painting thing plus the shift is crazy and never ending. but at least we get to work on our limbo skills whilest maneuvering crime scene tape.

and the dish ran away with the spoon....or the cat ran away with the string...same thing.
Song of the day:
"Uptown Girl" Billy Joel
gonna say, the dancing right away at 2:35 kinda freaked me out, though i did immensely enjoy the leg kicks at 2:45
or you could go with this version:
I'm all for Billy Joel. We remixed We Didn't Start the Fire to match up with our Camp J highlights.
though the original version is much better. will have to find it and upload it.

I guess I'll go on home, it's late. There'll be tomorrow night, but wait...
Tonight's Tuesday Night Night-Shift Debate:
Who would win in a fight, a sea cow or a snow leopard?
Thoughts?
We decided on the sea cow. If the battle was fought underwater the snow leopard has no chance. And a snow leopard can't drag a sea cow to land to fight the battle because they're giant. Well, technically, they're extinct so they can't drag them anywhere.
This debate really went as far as that because we moved on to other useless trivia.
Other things I learned today:
-In 1865, in the war between Uruguay and Brazil, one of Uruguay's ships ran out of cannon balls so they fired chunks of stale Dutch cheese out of the cannons. One of them dismasted an enemy ship and killed two sailors.
-If you've ever had to haul a can of paint to the top of a water tower to defend your sister's honor you may be a redneck.
-People used a rhyme in the olden days to remind others to stay away from Oak trees in a lightning storm. "The oak brings the stroke." Apparently oak trees were thought to be highly conductive.
-It's lucky to spit in your hand before you pick up your bat. It's unlucky to share bats with someone else. ....and now totally gross if you play with superstitious people.
We Space Cadets are all about the useless trivia. And the patrons love it. When you get the two of us together we're always joking about the most random crap whether it be weird dreams, e-books, psychics, random phrases, my broken shoes, her children, my siblings - seriously anything is conversation-worthy.
And it's hilarious because we really have nothing in common whatsoever. I'm all about media, reading fiction and sleeping in - she's a nutrition major who watches nothing, reads historical nonfiction and wakes up every morning at like 4Am. Voluntarily. But when we're together we're always laughing about something. So it's fantastic.
This one night we had this older patron who I helped get signed up for an email account and the whole time she was like yelling and talking really loud and laughing and all that and I walked back to the desk laughing, because the chick was hysterical.
Me: That's gonna be me in 50 years.
SC: But you'll use your inside voice. Unless you're too deaf to hear it.
...
SC: My hearing at 70 will be your hearing at 30.
apparently my headphones are too loud. geez...mom.
But today was awesome. And I was productive so she was proud.
Shelved for four hours this morning, got groceries, ran into my adopted little sister who's moving to town - huzzah! - came back and cleaned my apartment room by room, hung up the rest of my posters, vacuumed, paid some bills, FINALLY got Dad's present. Every time I went to the office they weren't there, haha. But third time's a charm so now it's all wrapped and all that. Oh and got Castle season 3 and Bridesmaids. Totally stoked. But I still gotta finish this season of SVU even though it's not due 'til like October.
Songs of the night: Time-honored Tuesday
"Pretty Woman" Roy Orbison
always with those freaking sunglasses. love it.
this is a family favorite.
"You May Be Right" Billy Joel
more shades. love his hysteria in this video. fits the song perfectly. and the dancing...that's niiice.
Tomorrow I'm back at both branches, maybe I'll actually get to see Fearless Leader and Slim Shady. I catch glimpses of them every once in a while, I swear!
Out for some SVU and sleep.
"you may be right....i may be crazy....but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for...."
