It's kind of like saying "take a long walk off a short pier" but better.
And apparently it's a song by The Henry's.
Though not available through YouTube or that would be the song of the day.
Pretty much sums up my day.
Received my first major assignment after getting my Master's.
They're writing a new Strategic Plan and have enlisted my help, along with a few other coworkers throughout the system.
Basically we're researching innovative libraries and then everyone is sending myself and Katie images and stories to put into a powerpoint to impress the stakeholders.
Powerpoints I can handle, I'm actually pretty good at making them.
It's the presentation part that scares the crap out of me.
Keyword: Stakeholders.
No pressure.
I hate public speaking.
I'm terrified about my upcoming booktalk in front of 20 old ladies, so you can only imagine how I feel about this one.
Thankfully I'll have people with me.
Oh well, plenty of time to freak about that. Let's think about something different.
Queen of the Known Universe and I talked life motto's today.
What is one simple phrase that sums up your life?
Like, if you were to write a memoir what would the title be?
I joked with the Reference Queen a while ago because every day she wears Birkenstocks so hers could be called "And I did it all in Birkenstocks."
One of my classmates, and now coworkers and I joked during class once about her working at a counseling center and she named hers "I Chase Naked People."
Through the years I've come up with quite a few and am still debating my best option.
Here are my choices so far:
-Black in the Crevices
-I'm just coloring in the chicken feathers
-Well, that's something to scrapbook
-Just wave
-Social life in progress...
-At least the baby stopped crying
-I’m just not hooked on your phonics
-That's a second Friends reference for those of you counting.
-Because everyone should have someone to scream at in a giant elephant.
-The Sideways Hat Theory
-I live my life behind the tab
and of course
-My Life in Closed Captions
Each has a story of its own.
Black in the Crevices is one of my favorites because it came purely by accident. Second Sister was getting me ready for my job interview, because apparently I couldn't be trusted to dress myself, and she said that my black nail polish was unprofessional or inappropriate or something so she attacked it with polish removal. Then she got mad because she couldn't get it all off. "There's still black in the crevices!" So I covered it with some silver. Because that's who I am. Still there, like the black, but hidden by the air of confident silver that enables me to do my job. How's that for psychology crap? Blame it on the Sociology minor. Took too many Behavioral Sciences classes in college. And, she may have been right, I did get that job. Well, jobs.
I'm just coloring in the chicken feathers was a Slim Shady reference. She was avoiding reacting to something by sitting and coloring a chicken and it made for a good life motto. Cause we do we do in life really that isn't just coloring in the chicken feathers?
That's something to scrapbook is another one of my favorites cause it makes me laugh. And that's its purpose. I say it when something horrible happens in an effort to get past it.
Just Wave was an Oldest Sister's invention. When she got caught riding on the back of some guy's motorcycle in high school after being told not to ride with him she decided that instead of hiding from Mom and Dad she would just wave instead.
Social life in progress... was a school theme. I attempted to be social while still being overloaded with homework and work work.
At least the baby stopped crying was a Homey-G-Wigger original. We went to see a movie - I think it was the last Harry Potter - and there was this baby there and it crying the entire time. And then we were sitting in the back toward the stairs to the balcony and there was a constant stampede of super loud people going up and down. So mid-stampede she leaned over and goes "at least the baby stopped crying."
I'm just not hooked on your phonics is a line from one of Ke$ha's lessen known songs, but I love it and say it repeatedly when surrounded by idiots.
That's a second (or third) Friends reference for those of you counting. When you're as big of a Friends nerd as I am you quote it constantly and catch on when other people quote it. But every once in a while you have to keep count because when you're on a roll you're on a roll.
Because everyone should have someone to scream at in a giant elephant is a Moulin Rouge reference. I was obsessed with that movie in high school and always wished I would one day have someone of my own to scream at in a giant elephant.
The Sideways Hat Theory and Living Life Behind the Tab are both Camp J references. The first is my tradition during registration. I wear my hat sideways and the parents with concerns walk straight past me cause I look like a junior counselor. It's all fun and dandy until they run into an adult who then redirects them back to me in the first place.
I Live My Life Behind the Tab is because we have these song books in binders and there is a tab between the sacred songs and the silly songs. And every once in a while in life it's better to be silly than serious.
My Life in Closed Captions is the title of this blog because it was fitting at the time, and it still seems to fit.
What do you think is best? I'm leaning towards Black in the Crevices, Life in Closed Captions, or That's Something to Scrapbook.
Hm....Maybe a combination of the three.
Perhaps this blog is just a big lead-in to me writing my memoirs. Though that would mean my life would need to be much more exciting so I would have stuff to include.
Though knowing me the format of my memoirs would be something close to Sketch and Edit's format where it's just dialogue. I'll have to work on that.
Song of the Day:
Say Something - A Great Big World & Xtina
i'm not sure how i haven't posted this yet, i love it. another life motto for you.
Alright, that's all I got for today. Off tomorrow - huzzah!! Gonna sleep in, clean, do some laundry, and hopefully see the boyfriend at some point.
Hope you all have rockstar weekends.
I could write a blog. I have thoughts.
Life at the library, adventures with friends and other hysterics...

but I'm stronger than the picture that you took before you left...
My boyfriend never calls me.
We always text.
Or talk in person.
So when I saw his name on the caller ID this morning I knew it was bad.
His work has once again screwed him over and he's having a personal crisis.
So, any grand plans about finishing my homework tonight flew out the window and I went out there instead to come up with a game plan.
Depending on how work goes next week we think we have a vague plan for the next few years.
Basically, our lives will be hell for nine months.
So kind of like pregnancy but without the screaming child popping out at the end.
I'm not thrilled but neither is he.
But, you know what, it's not like I'm going anywhere and he's worth waiting for.
So, I'll stick it out and we'll take it day by day.
Or quarter by quarter as it is about the combination of work and school.
Definitely not going back for a Doctorate now.
Not that I wanted to anyway, but now I have a legitimate excuse.
Gonna have to talk to Superwoman about scheduling.
Joy.
As awful as the reason was behind it tonight was actually kind of nice.
Switched it up.
Started by choosing a restaurant on the right side of the road - we always go left cause there's more - then drove out to the lake where we sat for hours just talking about everything and enjoying the scenery.

After which we went back and helped his parents move their new couch.
If someone had a camera it would have made YouTube, seriously.
Then we went back out driving around, parked and just walked for blocks.
It was good though because we actually talked about stuff instead of our usual dinner and a movie routine.
We'll figure it out as we go along I guess.
Alright, in need of some serious sleep. More work tomorrow.
Turn To White - She & Him
yes i know it's not She & Him week but they just uploaded this one.
they are seriously good live.
would love to see them again.
Something's Got a Hold On Me - Christina Aguilera
yes i know i've posted this already, but technically that was the movie clip, not her singing it live.
oh it must be love.
def one of my favorite of Etta's.
and Xtina's.

"You just killed a helicopter with a car." "I was out of bullets."
On to Live Free or Die Hard.
aka Die Hard 4.0
aka my favorite of the series so far.
Bruce Willis likes it better than 2 or 3 as the sequel.
Watched an exclusive interview between Bruce and Kevin Smith.
He plays Warlock but you probably know him from Clerks.
or Jay and Silent Bob.
He's highly entertaining, but he pointed out that Bruce has done a Die Hard movie in the 80's, 90's the 00's and now the 10's.
The boyfriend is convinced Willis is gonna be in a wheelchair for the next movie.
So yes, finishing up my marathon. Watched 1 last night and started number 2 - fell asleep so finished that one and number 3 this morning. Now I'm on 4 but can't watch 5 cause it's still in theaters, but I've rambled about that one already anyway go here: You asked for a large bag of hair on the way to Taganskaya Courthouse.
Just starting this one, he's currently picking up Matt Farrell - I love Justin Long, another one of my top favorites mentioned yesterday.
And now his apartment's being blown to pieces.
I do like all 5 but this is my favorite. Mostly because of the actors involved - Justin Long, Timothy Olyphant, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (who makes an appearance in number 5) - and I like the whole government fire sale aspect to it.
The boyfriend likes the 2nd one best. My favorite scenes in that movie are the ones with his wife on the plane cause of her back and forth with the reporter who has a restraining order against her (after she punched him in the 1st movie.)
I've only seen it twice, along with number 3.
Which I also like a lot because of the Simon Says stuff along with Samuel L. Jackson as Zeus.
Here are a few of my favorites from this one:
Matt Farrell: [to Lucy] Wow, I know that tone. It's just weird hearing it come from someone... with hair.
Just one of the many reasons I love it.
Today was good.
Aside from the all the Die Hard I mean, went in to work for a couple of hours. Was swamped the first and dead the next. But was good bonding time with Girlscout.
We talked pets.
Showed her the picture of Carter with the snowpeople.
Cause he's like monstrous in comparison.
And he sleeps on my stomach.
It would be adorable if it wasn't killing my back.
He's currently decked out beside me.
But anyway, so yes, slept in, watched Die Hard's 2 and 3, went to work, went grocery shopping.
Came home, unpacked groceries, ate supper, now on to Die Hard 4.
And that was my day.
Tomorrow will be much different I'm sure. Back to the regular 9-6, plus gotta call the dentist to set up an appointment.
I actually started flossing, aren't you proud?
Although by "started" I mean like twice.
This week.
But that's better than nothing.
I'll start doing it until the appointment and then quit again until next time.
And there's a TAB meeting.
Get to plan out logistics for SR events and the kickoff party.
Yeehaw.
Alright, on to the music, then back to the movie.
Just a Fool - Christina Aguilera Feat. Blake Shelton
love this song.
and that it debuted on the voice.
which starts next week, get ready.
stoked.
love her.
will of course miss Xtina and Cee-Lo, but I've always loved Shakira. and Usher is alright I guess, so we'll see how this goes.

Richard Thornburg: [sits down and sees Holly looking at him]
Stewardess!
Stewardess: Mr. Thornburg, you cannot monopolize my time.
Richard Thornburg: You cannot put me near that woman.
Stewardess: Excuse me?
Holly McClane: He means he's filed a restraining order
against me. I'm not allowed within 50 feet of him.
Richard Thornburg: 50 yards. So by keeping me in the section
you are violating a court order. I can sue you and this airline. That woman
assaulted me and she humiliated me in public.
Stewardess: [walks over to Holly and whispers] What did you
do?
Holly McClane: Knocked out two of his teeth.
Stewardess: Would you like some champagne?
I've only seen it twice, along with number 3.
Which I also like a lot because of the Simon Says stuff along with Samuel L. Jackson as Zeus.
Zeus: Why you keep calling me Jésus? I look Puerto Rican to
you?
John McClane: Guy back there called you Jésus.
Zeus: He didn't say Jésus. He said, "Hey, Zeus!"
My name is Zeus.
John McClane: Zeus?
Zeus: Yeah, Zeus! As in, father of Apollo? Mt. Olympus?
Don't fuck with me or I'll shove a lightning bolt up your ass? Zeus! You got a
problem with that?
John McClane: No, I don't have a problem with that.
[McClane and Zeus are speeding through Central Park]
Zeus: Are you aiming for these people?
John McClane: No. Well, maybe that mime.
Here are a few of my favorites from this one:
Matt Farrell: Awww, great! There goes the cell phone.
John McClane: They knocked the satellites out of the skies,
now?
Matt Farrell: No, your battery ran out.
The Warlock: [to Matt] Why did you bring a cop to my command
center?
John McClane: [laughs] Command center? It's a basement.
The Warlock: [angrily] Who is this man?
[standing next to a stand-up cardboard cut-out of Boba Fett]
The Warlock: What, like, you a big fan of the Fett?
John McClane: No. I was always more of a Star Wars guy.
Thomas Gabriel: I can't talk this guy. You talk to him. See
if you can get him to focus.
[hands cell phone to Lucy]
Lucy McClane: Dad?
John McClane: Hi, baby.
Lucy McClane: Now there are only five of them.
[to terrorists over radio]
John McClane: Hey, Metro, how's your day goin' over there?
Yeah, you gotta be pretty, uh, crazy over there, what with all those 5-87's,
huh?
Mai Lihn: Yes, sir, we've had to dispatch all units.
John McClane: Yeah, you had to dispatch all units for all
the naked people walkin' around?
[after the presidential montage]
Casper: That was creepy.
Trey: I tried to find more Nixon.
Matt Farrell: [to Lucy] Wow, I know that tone. It's just weird hearing it come from someone... with hair.
Just one of the many reasons I love it.

"You got hit by a car. Are you even human?" "The trick is to just relax your legs. I read it on wikiHow."
Et tu, Smo?
We give her crap cause her birthday's on the Ides of March.
Welcome to the world of twenty-five-dom.
Now you can feel old like the rest of us.
A day off, huzzah.
Needed one of those.
Slept in, did some cleaning, swapped a TV out with another TV.
Switched the one in my closet with the one in my bedroom. So now the one that was in the bedroom is on the dresser where the other one previous sat.
And these are like the old massive box style TVs so that was a bit of a workout.
But this one has a remote.
And I can plug both my PS2 and DVD player in it, whereas with the other one, it was bigger but there was no remote and I had to choose between my PS2 and DVD player.
After that my professor called - nightmare scheduling that one - and we talked about my final project. That I'm actually basically done with. She was shocked, apparently I'm the furthest along - score.
But it's a poster session, so basically we get one powerpoint slide and we have to put all of our information on it like an actual poster and then we'll have to present electronically, cause the class is all online. Curious as to how that's gonna work, but I guess we shall see.
After that I headed out to see the boyfriend. We ate and then went to see Identity Thief.
Which we wanted to see for a while, but were waiting for it to come to the theater out there. Usually the blockbusters aren't this delayed but they only have three screens.
Hilarious, 8/10 on the Scale of Awesome. I love Melissa McCarthy and find it humorous when her husband makes cameo appearances. They have a production company called On The Day, looking forward to their movies.
She's great, loved her since Gilmore Girls, which was long before her Bridesmaids fame. Which then led to Mike and Molly and then the whole Queen of Comedy thing. But she's hilarious and deserves it. I do love that she's the sane one in a family of crazies in Mike and Molly. Which is unusual cause in most of her roles she's the weird one.
Afterward we watched an episode of World Dumbest. I'm tempted to get the next package up with Dish just so I can get TruTV, I miss that show. Fell asleep watching it almost every night in college, love it.
Love it.
Alright, I'm off to sleep. Back to work tomorrow.

to the moon, alice!
Christmas Eve with the boyfriend's family today.
They didn't have to get me anything but I came home with quite the load.
The boyfriend and I bought presents together this year. Which is kind of a big deal.
And while getting ideas on what he wanted was much like pulling teeth when it came to my gifts he totally swept me off my feet.
Remember how I mentioned that he kept singing Payphone over and over this weekend? I said something to the effect of Maroon 5 was coming to Nebraska along with Neon Trees and Owl City and it would be cool to go.
Not knowing that he had already bought the tickets
...and that that was the reason the song was stuck in his head.
And they're good seats.
So there was that.
And a blu ray player.
Which I was thinking about buying for myself but holding off for xmas money. Actually the same model that he got me.
Best boyfriend ever.
I got him lots of stuff since we're having 2 Christmases but nothing can top those really.
His family is awesome. His brother got me the Batman trilogy on Blu ray - perfection for first set of blu rays - plus a Husker sweatshirt that I'm currently wearing, a sweet Husker stoplight that the Cool Aunt will totally be jealous of, some cool water bottles, and a wicked bag that says "I like big books and I cannot lie" which makes me laugh amongst other things.
Plus some stuff for Carter.
They rock.
Tomorrow morning is Christmas with mom and dad and then more stuff with the boyfriend's family - extended this time.
It's interesting. If you would have told me last year that now I'd be in a serious relationship spending Christmas with the boyfriend's family I would have laughed.
Though I never think in terms of years, it's always in terms of five years.
Because I'm not a fan of the future and I don't like change so throwing out theories about things happening five years from now is much less stressful than a year.
Does that make sense?
Before it was:
In five years from now maybe I'll have someone.
In five years from now maybe I'll be married.
Now it's more like:
In five years from now maybe I still won't have kids.
Don't get too excited about that one, he says stuff about not having them either.
Though my mother would kill me and his mother has already told me she expects three.
No pressure.
Where was I before this tangent?
Today.
It was great. Soup for lunch, then presents, watched Short Circuit #1, went to church and then watched Short Circuit #2 - which I gave him on Blu ray - apparently he used to watch them over and over as a kid.
Not bad. Interesting to see G.W. Bailey before he was Provensa. Same attitude about life but less gray hair.
And that's basically today. Tomorrow I'm excited cause I got Mom a lot this year. And Dad some pretty cool stuff as well. Though this is only a few things since the majority of our stuff is saved for New Years with the rest of the family.
On to the music.
Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck: Day Eleven
Alright, it's getting down my favorite songs of all time.
Carol of the bells - Pentatonix
they're pretty good.
though i'm having mixed emotions about this video.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas - Christina Aguilera with special guest Brian McKnight
love her.
can't be replaced. even if i do like shakira.
one season though, just one season and she'll be back.
Oh Holy Night - Hey Monday
yes, i know. if you know me or read this blog this version really shouldn't be that big of a surprise.
but to be fair i was a big fan of them before she turned up on the voice.
didn't stop me from choosing her as my number one.
and see how well that worked out?
team blake all the way.
so yes, that was my favorite religious holiday song. and if you were around for last year's 12 days of music you already know what i'm going to post for tomorrow's pick but stay tuned anyway.
For last year's Day Eleven go here
Legitimate pre-midnight post. Holy crap tag in use.

"I'll deck your halls."
Big day for a Tuesday.
Worked 9-6, got to spend the morning at the home branch jammin' with Joe Studley. We're both such goofballs so the time flies by. Drive thru for lunch and back to the work branch in the afternoon. Check-in and supplies in the afternoon.
After work was a different story. It's the boyfriend's birthday today so we went out to eat with his parents. Got a hot beef sandwich - one of my favorite meals, though it's hard to beat tacos - and then we came back and watched the last part of The Grudge.
Nightmare-worthy but I like Sarah Michelle-Gellar so it was fine. And there was Seinfeld as well - finally saw the Soup Nazi. I've seen a few episodes but I was never a die hard like some of my cousins. Perhaps I'll order a few seasons through the library.
So I was there 'til 11, got back at midnight and then watched THE VOICE FINALE which was EPIC. Lots of duets with famous artists and they brought back a lot of singers - they let the finalists sing a song with singers of their choice. Gonna Rock and Roll All Night was my favorite - Terry brought back Michaela, Amanda, Bryan, and Rudy. Nicholas brought back Amanda as well, along with Dez and Trevin. Cassadee went with country singer Liz, unique artist Melanie and vocal powerhouse De'Borah.
She also performed with her idol - and mine - Avril Lavigne. And then turned into an excited mess immediately following.
Which leads me to the winner.
Major spoiler alert - if you hadn't figured that out already - the winner is....
*dramatic pause*
*insert crazy girl celebration* my number one actually pulls it off.
lasted much longer than last year, and while jordis still does rock cassadee is my favorite of the two. mostly cause i liked hey monday before the voice and that just carried over.
But I'm so happy she won, though I would have cheered if it had been Terry too. Nicholas would have been interesting as well.
Aside from the winner being announced I think this was my favorite famous artist duet.
just cause i'm a nerdy fan for both of them.
The bring back performances were alright, as were the super group ones but nothing spectacular so I'll move on to the Christmas music and post them later.
Christmas Music That Doesn't Suck: Day Five
Oh Little Town of Bethlehem - Frank Sinatra
again with frank on a classic. last year's was Sarah McLaughlin, she's always great with christmas music.
Silent Night - SNL Choir
no words. last year was aly and aj but this is better.
What Child is This - Carrie Underwood
rockin' country chick. last year's was charlotte church.
For last year's Day Five go here
did i mention it's not only my boyfriend's birthday today but also cassadee's boyfriend's birthday? and xtina's? so sad she's skipping next season but she'll be BACK!
oh well, i will attempt to stop talking about it for a while. next season doesn't start up again until march anyway so take a well-deserved break from my rambling...on that topic.
here's the preview for next season.
my shakira, how you've changed.
and she's out.
just realized that timothy hutton is very similar to ryan o'neal. thoughts?

Automatic, Supersonic, Hypnotic, Funky Fresh
There are people in the back of my dad's Suburban. Fake people. Life-size fake people. There are life-size fake people in the back of my dad's Suburban. With smiling faces. Surrounded by jugs of moonshine. It's oddly creepy yet totally cool.
Apparently they're supposed to go in his model T when he's not driving it. One of the many model T's anyway. He's kind of an old cars junkie. And old motorcycles, scooters, model trains, beer mugs, big screen tv's and reality television. Add in some bib overalls and a farmer's tan and you have my dad in a nutshell. But he's amusing so I like him. Despite his fascination with HeeHaw and need for me to see all the musical appearances.
The people are pretty cool. Mom drew the outlines on some insulation stuff and he cut them out then had some chick paint their faces. I should snap a photo and upload it.
So...camp meeting was today. And, you'd think we'd be done, but nope. Getting together again next Monday to burn picture CD's and send out thank you's to the adult help/kids for coming. We went to my old high school - BTW, all the kids this year are getting laptops, I'm totally jealous. We got screwed. Even have the prison t-shirt's to prove it. They're cool, black with our date of a release on the front and our signatures on the back - anyway, hung out at the library and saw half of our teen help there registering for classes in the gym. Well not classes in the gym. But registering in the gym for classes. In classrooms. It's camp week already. I remember going a week early for KRT. Knights of the Round Table it was the elite choir. We traveled and all that. I actually registered during camp week my freshman year. I was #34 out of the 32 kids in my class. Didn't make sense to me either.
Can't believe they're old enough to go there. Makes me feel super old. Well, that and the fact that every time I go to a movie my left knee locks up and I limp for about an hour afterwards. Seriously. Old woman on the loose.
Sorry, yeah, camp meeting, just made plans about teen help next year - they seem to always be on the agenda but they were excellent this year so it was good talk, picked a possible day, talked over new themes. We're thinking The Ultimate Transformer. The t-shirts would be wicked awesome. Wow, haven't said that in a while.
Aside from all that it was cool to see everyone again. It's a fun gang. We order pizza, drink pop and joke about all the stuff that happened at camp. It's good to hear others thoughts and all that. I do NOT want to be night patrol again next year, even though I know I will because who else is gonna do it? It was okay except for the 3rd grade girls. Kicked my butt. In fact, just saw one of them not sleeping when she was supposed to be just a couple hours ago.
Went to help my sister-in-law with her new ipod. Downloading music before she goes on her trip. Pretty cool stuff. I was proud she knew who Hey Monday is. But apparently they play them on the radio now. I was stoked. No, I don't listen to the radio. Couldn't hear it over the headphones in my ears. I plug the ipod in an adapter when in my car. Yes, I'm obsessive. Speaking of obsessive, what's up with people freaking out on me when I don't answer my phone. Did I really used to be that bad? It's like, if I don't answer a text or a call that they assume I'm lying dead on the side of the road or something. Call the National Guard! She's not replying!
I actually just had this conversation. It's not that I don't like all of you. I think you're all pretty awesome actually, you do put up with me so that's new. Anyway, it's just that with public service and catering to people all day all I want to do is go home and crash with no human contact at all. Just me and my big fat cat. I know that some people don't understand that but it works for me. It's like people overload at work cause they're everywhere, all the time, with the screaming kids and angry patrons - I mean I love my job, if I didn't I wouldn't do it - but when I go home I don't want to have to deal with any of that.
School starts up soon. I have half my assignment done already - order the textbook, got that. Other half is printing off my library's mission statement. I have the freaking thing basically memorized anyway just because of Managing Collections class projects. Freakin' Library Goddess. Making me better at my job. Geez. Will be sad not having her for a Prof for this one. Who will I bring coffee to in the morning? Maybe I'll stop by her office or something.
"Car Wash" Christina Aguilera feat. Missy Elliot
they make a pretty good team. for this and moulin rouge.
"The things you do" Gina Thompson feat. Missy Elliot
absolutely hate this song. but love missy from 2:23-2:55 specifically 2:31-2:33, gotta love her explanation "I have no idea where that came from" so skip that intro crap. seriously.
"1,2 Step" Ciara feat. Missy Elliot
yes, it's a feat. Missy Elliot kind of day.
love this video, back when artists still danced. rollerskates and Axe spray included. What movie was it when they went and shot a music video with a bunch of kids. Was that "Honey". sounds like it. Maybe not.
Love Missy Elliot, I was obsessed with "Lose Control" and "Work It" for a while.
sleepin' in! huzzah! then back to work in the afternoon.

This Magnet Moment...
Magnet Magnet Magnet...terrible. I am a freaking magnet. And I didn't even do anything this time! I was sitting at my desk and he comes up and starts hitting on me. I wasn't even in public service! I was at the lab! Answering the phone every two minutes!
Okay, so Grandma (25-yr-old-coworker, I really need to think of another nickname that doesn't take quite that explanation) calls me a magnet. Because I attract all types of weirdos and they like latch on or something. Apparently I'm "too nice to the weird boys." That's what she says every time I tell her about a new magnet moment. Which is what I call them. Unfortunately, it's a conversation I've been having a lot lately. Anyway, these "magnet moments" range all the way from being hit on and/or stalked by teenage boys to old women. Although my favorite was this guy around my age - I was helping him find sheet music cause the music goddess was already gone and he slipped me this piece of paper with his name (illegible btw) and a note at the bottom saying "likes ass or jazz". Yeah, that was something to scrapbook. It cracked myself, Grandma (25...), and my favorite college professor up majorly. Actually that was my second choice for the name of this blog, haha. But then people would have thought that it was me saying that, therefore My Life in Closed Captions won.
Today's Magnet Moment was interesting. He asked me out, I said I don't date patrons - learned that the hard way, then he tried to find a loophole saying something about how he would ask me out at the other branch or something. But he would still be a patron there so I'm confused. Whatever. But that's going to be awkward, since he goes to both branches. I'm toast. And I'm tired of being toast.
Think I'm just going to start being mean to anyone that looks at me twice. No, couldn't do that. I'd get in trouble. I'll just run instead. That works. And it helps when your "big brother" is around to save you. Haha, another fun coworker who has had unfortunate experiences with patrons as well.
It was funny, I described the guy to him earlier, then someone looking like the guy came to the desk to ask a question about parking meters and big brother comes from out of nowhere saying, "it's time to the count the money, let's go." Wrong guy, but still appreciated. Good to know I've got people who have my back. And Grandma (25... yeah that's getting old it's time for a new nickname)...where was I... oh yeah Grandma (...) says she'll play girlfriend, but I won't see her again 'til like Thursday or something since I'm at the other branch until then. And I'm sure he'll show up at that branch. Hooray...Not. Toast. Freaking magnetic qualities.
What else...oh yeah, tonight I'm going bowling...yes, bowling. I suck, but it's still fun. Usually I only go once a year when we take the kids at teen camp. We have our usual group with our usual nicknames - Boomer, Obi-Wan, Chickenfro, Maynard, this year Scuba Steve joined us as well. I'll let you guess which one of those is mine. Anyway, tonight I'm going with Boomer (there, eliminated an option for you) and Nic, plus I think Tyler will be there as well. We grew up together, same grade school and both went away to same high school so it's always fun to see him. His two little brothers have to put up with me still since I direct the play. Speaking of, I'll get to talk to Nic about that tonight, I gotta remember to ask about the rap and commercial.
Anyway, songs for tonight:
"Something's Got a Hold on Me" Christina Aguilera from Burlesque
Figured the title fit the whole magnet theme. Love the whole 50s/60s style.
"You Drive Me Crazy" Shakin' Stevens
This is at least the third time I've posted this, yes I'm aware. But it's one of my favorites. And it also fits the theme. Well, the title does. Pretty sure these people weren't sent down to give me a thrill. Someone else a thrill perhaps.
Alright, food then bowling. Have a good one.
