That's all I have to say about today.

I don't know what I did but when I woke up this morning my back was in a massive amount of pain.

Must have slept wrong or slept walked and injured myself, who knows.

But it hurt.

All day.

Not that I'm whining about it.

Just reminds me that I'm getting older, which is not an easy thing to adjust to.

Though my TAB kids remind me of it every day.

While we were building our golf holes yesterday one of the teens was talking about her mom using hip terminology and how it was weird.

"cause she's old, like you."
"ouch, how old do you think i am?"
"like 30?"

Okay, first off, 30 is not old.

And second, why do teens think I'm 30? That's the second one of them at the library that's told me that.

I'm 25, good God.

Ugh.

So what the crap is with this weather?

Every day this week we've had massive rain showers, flood warnings, and tornado watches.

Today's included a brief tornado warning, which led my boss, the guard and myself to the basement even though it was after closing.

Though it made closing extremely easy for the like 3 people that were still in the building.

Either come to the basement with us or leave.

They left.

After grocery shopping for the kickoff party today we'd have plenty of sustenance.

I mean, if we wanted to live off of apple juice and nilla wafers.

Although apparently Queen of the Known Universe has a secret stash of cookies somewhere.

Hmmm....

Anyway, doesn't it say something in Revelations about natural disasters taking over right before the end of days?

That was Revelations right?

My 17 years of private Lutheran schools hasn't failed me now has it?

Yes, I am one of those.

Though now I work in a very public library, and am getting my Master's at a public University, so don't give me that look.

I'm a rebel like that.

Those were basically the highlights of the day.

Back pain.

Kickoff shopping - bought 230 boxes of juice, 4 boxes of Nilla wafers, some seeds and ziplock bags and ah, crap. I forgot the napkins.

Oh well, I'm pretty sure I have some of those somewhere.

More training in the afternoon.

During which a bird divebombed the glass door.

Like there are windows galore and he chooses the door with stuff hanging all over it?

You'd think he's notice that one isn't fly-through-able.

I felt bad for laughing.

Especially when he kind of just sat there for like 20 minutes in shock next to the door.

The guard walked by and we flagged him down.

We went to show him and the bird was gone.

So that's a good sign.

The 8 - yes 8 - giant feathers in a big circle next to the door however were not such a good sign.

After the bird came the storm, after the storm I headed home - couldn't see the road in front of me for half of the drive, but I did in fact make it home. In like double the time it usually takes me.

Came home to watch Wipeout and some Iron Chef.

I'm digging this whole tournament of champions thing.

It's very exciting.

I'm watching an old one right now, where current Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli is actually still a sous-chef to Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian.

If you have no idea who I'm talking about this is Alex and this is Zakarian.

I usually root for the challenger, unless they're up against Cat Cora, but this time I think I'm going for the IC's because of the combination of the both of them.

And that was my day.

Got an email about classes starting next week.

Ugh.

I was just getting used to this whole time off thing.

Bought the textbook, it is already en-route.

For one of the classes at least, the other isn't online yet.

But that's the 1 credit class I can finish in a weekend.

Huzzah for that.

The other class may kill me.

I'm trying to down play it and not freak myself out, but it's a lot to do in a month.

Oh well, July and it'll be over.

Then it will be camp season. Then it'll be August for my last semester of classes. Then it'll be December and I'll be done.

And then it'll be times like these when I look back and say yeah no, not gonna go for the Doctorate.

I like having free time.

here's to hoping tonight's sleep doesn't make my back any worse.

Met the family.

Okay, so usually, I'm the type of girl that guys can take home to meet the parents.

I'm a christian, well-educated, family-friendly, full-time library service associate, master's student, youth camp director, etc. 

So I wasn't completely nervous. 

Okay, I'm lying, was totally freaked. 

But in the end, it went really well. 

I actually like his family, they were great. His siblings were funny, his aunts had great stories, plus I got some dirt on him - not as much as I would like - but still a substantial amount. 

Though the biggest thing I learned was basically, okay, I thought that my dad was head over heels about trains. And he is. But hanging around with my boyfriend and his father...pretty sure they have him beat. 

So it wasn't worth the whole freak-out moment I had driving out there.

His siblings especially were great, the sister and I bonded over the boyfriend being handy, hence the title.

Though I do think he's handsome.

And that show is a classic.


Included in the freak out moment came me asking for some tips from some family. Here are the highlights:

- "Be yourself, ask them questions about him as a young lad."

- "Don't worry, you're a lovely woman. Just don't say 'whats up with the fat kid.' ... wear makeup."

- "My intentions are..."

and then my favorite

- "They will like you. You ate a delightful woman." she meant to say "are" but "ate" was better. Then she called and we discussed how when you swallow someone delightful their delightfulness absorbs onto you. 

Seemed to work out pretty well and now the dreaded fear is gone. So I look forward to hanging out with them again. 

Though my favorite moment was probably when they asked me about school and I told them I was getting my master's in library science. Jaws dropped. Think I impressed them. 

Aside from that, a day off, I didn't know what to do with myself! Slept in, of course, watched some SVU season 12 though disc three was cracked so that bit the dust. Will have to find another copy. I meant to clean my apartment, like clean clean it but that didn't happen. Was too busy napping and watching SVU, it was fantastic. 

But having Friday off means I have to go in tomorrow and Sunday. 

Which is fine, pretty sure Slim Shady and possibly Fearless Leader will be around. 

I rarely see her anymore, pretty sure she's a figment of my imagination. Same with my trainee. I have to poke her to make sure she's real.

Much more entertaining than the first time around.

Think it had everything to do with the teacher.

First time I went - granted it was in a smaller town and at a library, ironic - it was taught by a cop.

Today we had a sub.

I knew it would be interesting when she was showing clips from Wipeout on the projector before class started.

Every time we took a break she'd show more AFV or just random clips that she had collections of, mostly people doing stupid stuff.

The majority of them had something to do with a vehicle. So it was almost appropriately class related.

We'll call it class adjacent.

It was perfection.

Anyway, she understood that we didn't all want to be there so she flew over the material pretty quickly, not repeating things that we already knew. Answered a lot of dumb questions. I think we all passed.

Though the dude next to me was annoying the crap out of me and I wish he failed.

Does that make me a bad person?

He was playing games on his cellphone the whole class.

Then it died and he wanted to borrow my charger.

Which I didn't have. Even if I did I wasn't going to hand it over to him in the middle of stop class.

Why is it that I always end up at the table with the people who talk?

You know, they think they're whispering but they're clearly not cause she keeps looking back at them every 30 seconds.

I think that just goes with sitting in the back corner.

Did that through the majority of college, unless it was a small enough class for all of us to be forced to the front.

Gonna have to switch it up a little I guess.

I did for the Library Goddess, but then she kept using me as an example. Made me sound brilliant, I should thank her for that.

Though I sat in the back for her next class and she still did it.

So maybe it's just me.

Paying me back for the coffee.

Makes me sound like a genius librarian. In front of other library people.

But I'll still bring her coffee.

And I will forevermore be wearing my seatbelt.

It wasn't like a "click it or ticket" message thrown our way, it was more of a "click it or die" kind of message. All these videos and pictures and horrible stories. Scared into submission. Gross.

Plus, tires make me paranoid now. Did you know if they're older than 4 years that's dangerous? Not as in I've used them for four years, as in they've existed for four years. Including the years they've sat in the shop. They showed us the numbering system, I'm checking mine next time I go to the car.

I did a spit take. Literally. I was swallowing my coffee and the second that first squirrel screamed it came out of my mouth and back into the thermos. Laughing and swallowing and coughing at the same time is just awkward. Luckily the majority of my classmates were out of the room on break.

But dude.

I'd seen it before too, I just didn't remember it.

Classic spit take.

Not one of my shining moments.

But it just got worse cause them I kept thinking about the video and laughing when I really shouldn't have been laughing cause she's talking about death and destruction.

A lot of the stuff just reminded me of this episode of NCIS when Abby and Tony are talking about driving classes and Abby is commenting on the videos. "Drink, Drive, Die" was the name of one she wanted on DVD.

And it's like the time that I couldn't stop laughing at this quote from Just Shoot Me and it made working in the lab, where there are just two of us, really awkward.

But that's when you take a lap.

Dear Blogspot,

Today I was totally productive.

Even more so than usual.

As I’m a big girl now, that apparently comes with responsibilities. Some of these have not yet been announced or I would be freaking out about them on here…although if you saw who I was shadowing and meeting with today then you probably already know. And it’s not like big big stuff. Okay, well some of it is. But it’ll be enough to keep me busy and freaked out for the next few years. Might take a while to adjust, but maybe it’s about time for a changeup.

Even though I’m still in changeup mode, switching from 20 to 40. Well, 35 to 40. With 38 at the work library and only 2 at the home library. I’m hoping the 2 hours there will continue on, but now that they have their new staff who knows what will happen.

Okay, aside from meetings and shadowing and then meeting with supervisors to talk about other stuff I also signed up for a parking spot, woohoo!

Then came home, made supper, did a bunch of computer stuff and watched some more Leverage. Still waiting on season two so I’m stalling until it gets there. Starting season three without watching it is feasible, but I’d rather watch it in order.

And that was today.

Tomorrow should be fun.

Staff meeting in the morning where hopefully all the changes will be announced and explained.

With the stuff that’s being handed out I’m shocked the supervisors weren’t losing their minds with all that they had to handle. Granted they got paid the big…well, bigger bucks, to do it. But still, that’s a lot of stuff.

Then I get yet another meeting with supervisors from different branches about a thing that I’m being put in charge of.

Again, I’ll explain more tomorrow. And prepare to get nervous and freaked out ramblings, I excel at those.

Okay, what else? Oh yeah.

Geez, you show up to work in matching socks and everyone goes crazy.

The last time I dressed up dressed up and I quote:

And, to be fair, they haven't seen me there in almost weeks. Not for a full day at least. Tomorrow is another one of those few hours there and few hours at the other one days. But it's anything but boring.

So when I walk through the almost empty library at 3:25 and hear "Hey Hollywood!" I take it in stride. He used to call me "College". Still does when there are computer issues and he needs me to fix something. Even though we have a whole Virtual Services division for that. Again, I take it in stride. I can usually fix the problem anyway.

I was actually productive today. Shocker, I know. Shelved all morning, came home and took a nap - which is sort of productive...when you can't sleep the night before - ate lunch/supper, headed downtown, went back to work, registered for classes, watched NCIS on DVR, and now blogging here so that I can write my paper for class and submit it online before I crash and burn from the long day.

Sophie's Choice was made. Now it's all up to The Powers That Be. At this point I have nothing to lose.

I left my phone at the farmhouse. I called Mom from my sister's house. "Yes, I have your phone. It was in my chair." So if you've been trying to get in touch with me and I haven't answered that's why. You can text my mother if you're so inclined. I'm not sure if she knows how to answer it on my phone though.
You could be like Superwoman. Work people kept calling my mother when they were trying to get a hold of me because they had that number on my record. Then mom would have to call me to relay the message so I gave my boss my cell to switch it out and she says, "Maybe we like talking to your mother." She is quite enjoyable.

Today: yes, we wrote the song posted below but also we did get a lot done, talked to the tshirt dude, cleaned out the trailer - Ahh!! and finished the actual song. Well, it's more like a verse, we're adding a verse to an existing song. Chicken strips of awesomeness for lunch.
I hate making nametags. I don't know how the program works, I can't use it. I hate it. I hate Vista. Stupid Vista. We blame everything we don't like on Vista even if it had nothing to do with computers. It works well for us. Even made the song two years ago. Which I think was the last time the program worked. And that's only because my Delayed...Reaction partner worked a miracle as he was in charge of them.
I filled out the whole database with everything but then when I went to print nothing showed up. But it was there. I know it was cause I saw it, just not when I printed it. Stupid Vista.

But we made an icecream run. They basically melted all over Nicole in the passenger seat. Madness.


My cousins are in town! I have a lot of cool cousins but these ones are actually my age! so that's nice. The Cool Aunt called and says she's taking us out for jalapeno margaritas later this week. Huzzah!

How many farmers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Currently there are two in my closet. I should snap a picture and upload it later. But then they might not change it and then I would be screwed.

Lunch at 3PM roughly translates to peanut butter crackers from the vending machine and Angry Birds on my ipod. Both were enjoyable. I blame my obsession with that game on Superwoman who got me started with it in the first place. But I'm totally kickin' butt.

Sent out mass amounts of emails about the Food Drive - 8 days and counting. I still have no idea how I'm going to collect all that food, collaborate all the barrels and deliver them all by myself. Yikes. I'll have to split the branches up cause they're going to pick them up at two locations. Gonna have to borrow a truck. Last time I had a panic call to my brother in law. Who's awesome. And let me borrow his truck. This time I will be more prepared.

Tomorrow means the inevitable cleaning of the trailer. First we put it off. Then we couldn't find the key. Now we have no choice. Clean it out, count supplies, search for craft/game stuff, stuff it all back in. Plus paperwork. We sent out the majority of the mailings, assigned people to cabins and stations, now all that's left is coming up with a schedule, double checking on t-shirts, finding a second lifeguard, writing skits, checking the budget, and....I'm forgetting something. But did I mention writing skits? Which of course I didn't do last night. Cause I don't know where to start. Will have to do an internet search or look through books at the library for ideas.
