what a bright time, it's the right time

It's interesting how fast days are flying by.

I just want everything to stop, literally just stop and go slower.

Christmas is the best time of the year and it's almost over already!!

Last year didn't feel like Christmas at all cause there was no snow, this year it's mad snowing outside right now. If the temps stay low maybe some of it will still be around next week.

But probably not enough to go sledding.

We'll see.

Though we're rednecks so our version of sledding is hooking up a sled behind a four wheeler.

Or what you would call an ATV.

Then driving it all over the yard, through the fields, over the pond, over buried cars, etc.

Have some interesting memories from sledding. Remember one time Tweet was driving the 4 wheeler and Alex and I were in the sled, he was in the front, we hit a bump, he fell out - somehow over the front - and I ran him over with the sled. My bad. But not like I could do anything about it we were going that fast.

Another time my brother was driving and he used to have this big black lab that was very excited about cars and stuff so he totally took me out on the sled, didn't even see it coming.

Then I ran Megan into a mailbox.

That was legitimately my bad.

The thing about this one was that the rope was really long and you have to remember that when you turn corners. Gotta remember to turn wide or you'll end up running your third cousin straight into the mailbox.

But she survived so we're good.

Megan and I have been through a lot together - "those are gonna be some weirdass dreams" Camp J Highlights - but somehow our adventures are always highly entertaining.

So worked all day today and it flew by. Am shifting the books on CD cause we're out of space and weeding any more of them would be ridiculous. Anyway, BossLady and I are adding shelves so I got to stand in the broken glass while she climbed over stuff to get the nice looking ones from the backroom of the basement.

It's like a graveyard down there, I should have taken a picture. Piles taller than me full of shelves and edges.

"Like graveyard jenga down here."

Why yes, I do still say that in a Scottish accent. Go here or here or here or here or here but mostly here

Wow, have I really abstained from that saying that phrase for over a year?

"Result!"

I realized you have no idea what I'm talking about. You should all go to your local library and request a copy of Bonekickers. It's fantastic. British CSI meets Indiana Jones. It was so cheesy it was awesome. Though the critics didn't think so which is why it only lasted a few episodes.

After doing that for a few hours it was back to the desk, lunch, checking in holds, then more shifting and desk stuff. Tomorrow will most likely be more of the same.

Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck: Day Six

Slight changes to day six, last year I included Glee's mashup of Deck the Halls and Up on the Rooftop and as much as it doesn't suck I can't post it again as it would kill the whole, same songs different artists thing.

On to the music.

Sleigh Ride - Karmin

Last year's was one of my favorite bands - She and Him - but this year I went with a Nebraska girl. More specifically, college town girl. A quite famous one.

Nice to hear the other half of Karmin in this one - aka her fiance.

I like the new one but it's hard to beat Brokenhearted.

It's just too damn catchy.

Jingle Bell Rock - Chord Overstreet

Because who doesn't want to dance with cheerleaders dressed as reindeer to a choreographed song about dancing bells in the middle of a library?

I'm so far behind but Glee-Loving Boss - for the 2 seconds that I saw him when I was at the home branch - said I need to watch the Xmas episode. I don't even know who's in it anymore aside from Blaine cause of the Hopelessly Devoted to You video I ran across earlier. Go here: There's no where to hide since you pushed my love aside

You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch - VersaEmerge (acoustic version)

The girl is pretty good but dude, that guy's got a voice.

Was not expecting that at all. Might have to look into them further.

For last year's day six go here

with arsenic sauce.

Legitimate pre-midnight post. Holy crap tag in use.

I'm the butler, I like to keep the kitchen tidy.

I love that someone typed "exploded babysitter" into google and got to my blog. That's fantastic. Also amusing, another person's search for "O Lord of Light" ended up with 2G's version. Hope we didn't scar them for life.

Wore my 2G shirt to work today. Well, tonight anyway. I usually wear jeans and a nice shirt if I'm headed to the main branch since I'm like a professional there. Or para-professional. Their words not mine. This is why I love camp. Got back to my roots and wore t-shirts and sport shorts the whole time. That's the actual me. I used to wear tear-aways, t-shirts and a backwards hat every day to school for years. This whole jeans and a nice shirt thing is like prom to me. Every day. Which is why it's nice to throw in a superhero shirt or funny reference one every once in a while when I'm just an Aide.
Besides, I've learned not to wear those shirts at the other branch. If they're going to stare at my chest I would rather them do it in silence and get it over with instead of staring and overwhelming me with conversation about the symbol emblazoned across my chest. That's just awkward.

Staff meeting this morning where my Koha Whisperer thing was made known. Now I'm just nervous they're going to ask me actual questions. Go to someone smart. I'm just a cronie. After that it was covering at the other branch while they had their staff meeting. Okay, I'm calling favorite cause at which branch does she bring pizza to a staff meeting? Yeah. But I got two pieces. Cause it's my branch too. And it was my lunch hour. And that branch is obsessed with all things bread. I blame Space Cadet. Her baking skills got us hooked. They're constantly finding recipes in books and trying to bribe her into making them. It's amusing. She says she'll slip me a few easy recipes that I won't burn down my apartment with. That should be interesting.

After all that fun it was lunch hour - yes a whole hour! that I didn't have to spend finding parking! - so I ran back to the apartment and watched Bonekickers - "like graveyard jenga down here" c'mon you knew that was coming - then went back for three hours and shelved in my bright orange shirt. Joe Studley said I needed to turn it down. It's that bright. I'm proud. Then dinner with Second Sister, got my leftovers in the fridge! I'm stoked for chicken tikka and rice at 3AM. Yes, small children sleep more than I do, get over it.

Then we hit up Barnes and Noble which...okay I used to make fun of it because it was a big bookstore and then they started selling all this other crap and I was like, "get that out of my bookstore!" Now I work at a library, so they can sell whatever they want. Anyway, so I go in, and okay, remember how I'm a nerd. And I got a raise. So what does a nerd do when they get a raise? They buy a wand. That lights up. And is awesome.

Yes a raise. It's interesting in these budget times but I'll take it. Another fun work thing - got my year evaluation! Which is amusing cause I still haven't gotten my 6 month one yet. Again, I'll take it. As long as he doesn't say that I suck. Which, I don't think I do. People are generally glad when I'm there. But I'm a nerd and make them laugh so maybe that's part of it.

Anyway, right, so in between the chicken tikka and the wand-buying was the driving from place to place and I pulled out of the parking lot following her and she's driving and suddenly pulls in the parking lot and starts waving all frantic and flailing. "Why are you following me?!" She was lost. And technically I live like less than a few miles from the place so I guess it would make more sense if I were to lead. So, I led, and got us on the right road and I'm calling Oldest Sister to see if she can meet us and I see Second Sister pass me in the lane next to me. I was like, "What?! She's in the wrong lane!" like chanting it, "She's in the wrong lane, she's in the wrong lane" all while being on the phone with Second Sister when we pull up to the stoplight and she turns...which makes me realize that it was me in the wrong lane. It's another one of those zombie moments, you know when you're driving on a road you take often but to a different destination and you're just used to driving to that place. Anyway, she turned but I was able to switch lanes and turn behind her. Meanwhile Oldest Sister was probably making fun of me the whole time.
OH! BTW - she has threatened to come to my apartment and steal a piece out of all my puzzles. That's just mean. I don't need any help from you to not finish the thing.
"Are you trying to make me look stupid in front of the other guests?!"
"You don't need any help from me sir."
"That's right!"
name that movie. if you were at camp you'd be all over it.

I blamed my poor sense of direction on being on the phone. "I can only remain sane when not involved in actual conversation." quote of the day. true story.

It was a Lily Allen kind of day. Yes, I've posted a lot of hers since she's my favorite, here are a few new ones.

"The Fear" Live version at The Sound on BBC 2

"Smile" official video
awful. love 2:21. was she eating candy with the wrapper still on it? i totally have those headphones.
these are both two of her biggest hits, yes she's british but she's awesome. we like british people, they're cool and have fun accents.

"But he was your second husband. Your first husband also disappeared."
"But that was his job. He was an illusionist."
"But he never reappeared!"
"He wasn't a very good illusionist."

Our drinking team has a golfing problem

Seriously. One of the best sporting days ever. On my day off even, huzzah! 2G rocked it. Didn't finish last - we smoked them - but didn't finish first either. I think we ended with like a 76 which is about 6 over - awesome for people who don't play golf - except pastor our ringer.

"I've had marriages shorter than that story" yaya Jack, I'm moving on.

-Basically, this morning got to sleep in, yay!
-Picked up my sister-in-law's extra clubs cause she's awesome and lets us borrow them
-Met up and carpooled to the course
-Did I mention our matching orange t-shirts? They're like neon orange. The neon of all neons with 2G on the front and our nicknames on the back. "Choot 'em Lizbet!"
-Discussed NFL cheerleaders on the ride there and the name of the Greey Bay Packer ones, "Because when I think of cheerleaders I think of the Golden Girls."
-"I’ll google it." my smartphone had a lot of random searches today.
-Arby's for lunch. What if you’re in a bad mood? Does that mean you can’t eat it?
-And of course talked camp stuff for next year, possible Zombie camp theme – dead in sin alive in Christ, for the skits I'll just make them dance to Thriller
-Got there, registered, enjoyed beverages, jammed with Heidie at the desk
-Started on hole 1, they spread us out but we got stuck between a slower group and fast group so we let the fast group pass us. It was a lot of waiting and all that. But worth it. We looked awesome in our shirts. This way you could hear and see us coming. No excuse for us to get hit with a ball. Unless you were aiming specifically for us. But we're loud. Super loud. It's frowned upon if there is no woohoo in your backswing. and JANSEN!! was also another fun one to yell.
-Lost my orange ball at the same hole I lost my ball last year and it was the same situation. I swung and didn't see where it went. And neither did they. Same thing as last year. No idea where it went. I'm just that fast apparently. It's all a blur. Speaking of blurs,
-Drink cart people love us. There were multiple involved. We put together a beer fund this year, well, everyone threw in some many in like a what do you call it, like a collection or a beer...there's a word for it. I can't remember, I'm tired. But yeah, contribution to the beer...stash? No. Anyway, I'll think of it later, but anyway, yeah they make these black cherry mike's now that are fantastic. Jim kept calling them blueberry so we changed the name to kickass berry. Because it rocked.
-We were all pretty giggly by the time the thing was over...some of us more than others, and no it wasn't me. little bit giggly lot a bit sweary, moving on.
-It was a success. I mean I was only thrown out of the cart once. And it was pretty early on so I walked it off. Last year I fell out try to save a club, this year I was crouched down leaning to get a ball on the way to the next hole and she turned after I missed it. Think I flew a few feet. Like flew, there was no sudden drop. Flailed more like it. And landed on the tee in my pocket. That was comfortable.

Beer pot? I guess none of us really had beer. Well, a landshark. Whatever that is and a bunch of Mike's. But we're all home and safe and all that. "Ha, result!" - Bonekickers, haven't quoted that one in a while. "It's like graveyard jenga down here."

Gonna crash now, oh forgot, I had my ipod and we played music in our carts. Started with Lady Gaga, then Rihanna and Ke$ha and put it on shuffle from there. Loved jamming to Pokerface while I tee'd off.

Song of the day because it played on my way to town and on my way back from town. Shuffle man.

"Find my Way" Gabe Dixon Band

oh and then came home to watch the episode of The Closer that I missed. Sheer awesomeness.

Library Selection Policy - its kind of a big deal.

I'm writing my paper for class, well taking a break from writing my paper for class, and am in need of some motivation to keep going. I finally found my angle so I know what to ramble about it's just the motivation to put the ramblings on paper that I'm lacking. Even though it's not really paper, more like 'on screen' and then upload it/submit it.

Aaannnd since I'm going through my notes that means more Library Goddess-isms.
- LG: "Who, When, What, Where and then we have another Who...ish" about citation
- LG: "That's why there are 800 books named 'Frog'!!.......I don't know where that example came from." since you can't put a copyright on a title
- LG: "The URL from hell." giant URL that I'm grateful we didn't have to copy down on paper
- LG: "You don't go up to the grocer and say, 'What the heck? Where are the beans?!'" I really wish I could remember what that was an example for. I think something about not having something in the library that we should have or something to that effect.
- Presenter: "Why do we collect statistics? Anyone?" *silence* "Okay!" that was funny. absolute silence. Reminded me of a few classes in college. Although that was usually the point in the lecture where the professor would either scream and do some weird gesture or jump on a table and just yell "hey!" Both took place in religion classes actually. The table yelling was from New Testament and the gesture was "Chicken Man!" when we were learning about Barak (thanks BFF) in Old Testament.

But I should be writing about censorship and gift policies!

Instead I'm jamming out to the Grey's musical episode soundtrack - now available on itunes - and cracking up everytime I hear Justin Chambers or Chandra Wilson sing. Not cause they're bad, they're actually quite good, I just can't see their characters singing. Or Sloan. Or Cristina. Or Meredith. Lexie sure. Maybe even Izzie. Actually, from the soundtrack, Ellen Pompeo and Chyler Leigh sound excellent. I'm impressed.

Selection policies are the backbone of every library! They can make or break you!

You know how sometimes there are random lyrics or quotes that come to you randomly during the day and just don't go away? Or is that again just me? All day I've been saying "You can call me Travie Clause minus the ho-ho." Granted it is the best line of the song but that still doesn't explain why it's stuck in my head. Oh well, at least it doesn't have a Scottish accent. "It's like graveyard jenga down here." I'm gonna have to find that on Amazon, see if they make it somewhere here in the states I can get it shipped from. It was only one season. But they should have it somewhere online.
Another line out of nowhere, "And why this frenzied chlorophyll's orgy starts in Spring is no enigma!" Which, if you get that reference without googling it, means you're either a big fan of Michelle Pfeiffer or have far too much time on your hands. Random random random. I love it even though it was spectacularly awful. In fact it got horrible reviews, which apparently means nothing to me as I'm a fan of it and Bonekickers and numerous other movies/bands that I won't list because I should be writing about selection policies and peer libraries instead.

"That's not my name" the Ting Tings 2008

I can honestly say I was a fan before they got famous famous. But that's also true for Hey Monday, Neon Trees and La Roux. Which I guess makes sense if you listen to a lot of Indie music. Since that's apparently rising to the top. It's either that or Lady Gaga and her electronic world. She's not bad. I am a fan of Ke$ha and she's got some electronic backgrounds as well.

Okay okay, back to writing about the importance of diversity in formats and topics.

Watermelon Watermelon Watermelon

Went to church and watched M&J sing. You know how some people, not me cause I sing, but some people, when they have to sing in front of people, they instead just mouth "watermelon watermelon watermelon"?? while the rest of the group does the actual singing? We were teasing my niece because we could hear my nephew singing but we couldn't hear her.

Magwilde from Bonekickers is still haunting me. Every thought in my head comes out in a Scottish accent. "It's like graveyard jenga down here." Driving me bonkers. I should record that line and put it as my ringtone. Or when she says "Identify yourself creepy caller." That'd be a good ringtone too. I don't even know what my regular ringtone is set as since I have specific ones for the people who actually call me. Oldest sisters is Queen cause its her favorite, or one of her favorites, Brother's is Star Wars, Second Sister's is Scissor Sisters, Father's (since he's started calling me randomly, I think he's bored out of his mind or something) is "Takin' Care of Business", Mom's is "Swingin'" by John Anderson (previously posted here My Life in Closed Captions: take these broken wings and learn to fly...), BFF has Rob Base and DJ Easy Rock (from the Proposal look for Ryan Reynolds singing "It Takes Two" on Youtube), High school friends have "Hey Ya" because it was our basketball theme song since Freshman year, Extended family has the Mario Bros theme song which is also frequently in my head......and I think that's really all the people that call me. Everyone else texts and that's just some weird beep sounding thing. Oh except work people. Maybe I should change that to 9-5 by Dolly Parton.

But thinking of the watermelon watermelon watermelon thing brought me to some of those songs that you think you know what they're saying or you just mumble it because they're singing so fast you have no idea what's going on. You know those ones?
Here's an example:
"One Week" by the Barenaked Ladies

It's highly likely that I posted this during 90s week. In fact I'm pretty sure that I did. But it's a good song and it goes with my theme so I'm posting it again.

or this one:

"Cherry Cola" Savage Garden

Not actual video but its the song that matters.

And right now they don't sound so fast. But when you're trying to sing them at karaoke in front of a bunch of people that completely changes.

Alright, now that I have my angle for my big paper, hooray!, I can go to bed and worry about the rest of it tomorrow. It's actually a big big angle so suddenly I'm not so worried about the 4 pages single spaced plus 1 page of intro. It's the citation in APA that's throwing me off. I'm used to MLA and it shouldn't be that big of a deal but it's still frustrating.

here's a bonus just for you...

Ryan Reynolds in the Proposal. Fantastic movie.

Soy un perdedor

Does anyone else have this quirk where you hear an accent and then it's almost mandatory that you talk in that accent? Or is that just me? I think it's just me. You should have went to "New In Town" with myself and Amber squared, I couldn't stop talking in a Minnesotan accent for hours. They were laughing so hard and I was going bananas. My worst fear though is that everytime a foreigner comes in and asks for something and I answer that I'm answering back in that accent. Because that would be awful and awkward. But there's always that feeling like after they walk away where I'm like, I didn't do it did I?
Anyway, it's freakin' Magwilde and her Scottish accent that's been driving me bonkers. Even though it's a British show and she's supposedly a British archaeologist. Or maybe she's a Scot who works at a British University. It only lasted 6 episodes so they didn't explain that much. But yeah, Bonekickers, despite its awful reviews and thus its cancellation, it's really not that bad. Kinda cool actually with them talking about Excalibur, Joan of Arc, WW2, Knights Templar, the True Cross, Boudica, etc. But I'm a nerd.

Okay so this is one of those headspace songs that's completely anti-HeeHaw which of course was the first thing I got sucked into watching when I walked through the door. Give the man some free time and he gets a whole list of videos I'm supposed to watch while I'm here. And today's was hysterical, like these twin brothers were singing some song and I couldn't get through the thing with a straight face. Awful. I mean the song was okay but not the brothers with their feathered hair and their dancing with tamborines and guitars. I'll have to find it and link you to it cause seriously. I'd like to see you get through it with a straight face. But he's dad, so there will be plenty more tomorrow.
Back to the headspace, it's "Loser" by Beck, and this video is almost as morbid and disturbing as yesterday's She & Him. I could make a week out of morbid and disturbing music videos but I don't think it would end well. So I'll try to leave it as these two and post some sort of annoying, Pop, stuck in your head all day, jam out song instead.

Oh right, Awesome day at work, we have this cataloguer who works upstairs a few hours a week and right before opening she yelled, "Let's take 'em down!" Jumpstart to a very fast and quite frantic day. There wasn't a lot of time to sit down but I've found that's been happening a lot lately, maybe it's cause summer is approaching or something.
Tomorrow I'll hopefully be able to sleep in, and not wake up at 12AM thinking its 12 PM then freak out and start getting ready for work just to realize its still pitch dark out so I'm not actually late. Which is another quirk as of late. So yeah, hopefully not that for tomorrow, I'm aiming more towards sleep or like naps. And watching TV. and working on my paper due Saturday cause I probably won't get a lot done during the week.

"I'm a driver, I'm a winner. Things are gonna change I can feel it."

25 peppers to 1 salt

Apparently pepper is healthy for you whereas salt is unhealthy. So, when sprinkling something with seasoning it is better for you if you choose pepper over salt. Who knew? So she did 25 pepper shakes and 1 salt shake. Awesomeness.

Gotta love family. My aunt and uncle moved here into this like awesome house, it's seriously impressive. We all went out to dinner then came back for a tour of the house. Lots of people. But awesome house. I'm super jealous. It was funny though because they were talking about how much stuff they had and then they were like, "the only thing worse would be moving your parents." Because seriously, my parents have a lot of stuff. Model trains, old cars, beanie babies, beer mugs, who knows what else is in that basement. Madness. They're never moving. We won't let them. Seriously.

Irony is that I was just talking about my aunt and uncle today at work. They live in Iowa. I used to go over to their house and play pool then go to Adventureland and all that. Ride all the roller coasters. Fun times. My uncle used to go on all of them with me, we liked to be in the front. I would like scream at the top of the hill going down and he would just put his hands up, haha.

After dinner/house tour we went back to my sister's house where I was foosball champion yet again. Undefeated, take that! Soulja Boy and The Chad totally dominated.

Today was a good day at work, short day actually so I mostly boxed up donations instead of working more on my project. Maybe Space Cadet will be there this week to help again.

Quotes of the day:
Uncle: "Where is your food?"
Aunt: "We ordered an ostrich and they had to go find one."
It took a while for our food because they were like out of whatever so we had to reorder. But it was funny because he couldn't hear what she was saying anyway because we were yelling across to the other side of the room. There were a lot of people at the table plus the game on.

Me: "You shocked the grapes?"
My other aunt and uncle have grapes in their garden but apparently they moved them or something and they're not doing so well so my aunt was like, "Yeah, they're in shock." Grapes? Really? Sad day.

Magwilde: "It's like graveyard jenga down here."
Bonekickers, they found a tank buried with dead bodies inside.

There are more quotes, mostly Austin Powers quotes from foosball or "Listen Plastic Man" from Red which I would say to Joe when he was snarky.

Music rec: "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here" She & Him

Although I did laugh hysterically at 1:02 this video completely and totally freaks me out. Seriously. And I love Zooey Deschanel, I think she's fantastic, as is the song. But what the?

Tomorrow means work 'til 6 then head to the farmhouse to take stuff to the parentals and stay over. Catch up on my DVR. Possible relaxation. Or being forced to watch HeeHaw reruns. Which really is the opposite of relaxation. Dad and his DVR. Crimeony.

"It's not a secret, why do you keep it? I'm just sitting on the shelf."

"Who buries a tank?"

Bonekickers. It's actually not that bad, even though it got terrible reviews. It's actually kind of amusing at times. Hooray for the BBC. "Result!"

Made some more progress on my jP project with Space Cadet. We're basically going through and making sure they're all ours which takes forever since our name isn't on all of the spine labels so you have to open them up and look in the back. First we did Z-P, today was started on A-E. Basically we started at the end because neither one of us wanted to do the B's. Berestain, Brown, Bridwell, Bourgeois, Bemelman. But I got sick of going backwards so I braved the wild and started at the beginning. And I found one that wasn't ours, almost did a dance! I think I did do a dance actually. But we're trying to get it all sorted before summer reading starts because after that starts it would be hopeless with all the kids going through all the time.

Now I'm headed to my sisters to reclaim my title as foosball champion and watch basketball. I fell behind on my bracket, I hope Duke picked it up last night or I'm toast. Oh well, NC and KS are still in it. I think. Like I said, behind.

Song for the night "How Long" by the Eagles

my dad would be so proud.
it's been stuck in my head so Tada! Here's the live performance from the CMA's in 2007.

You are the only exception...even though I haven't met you yet.

Or maybe I have...hmmmm, the possibilites.

Time: 8:09 PM
Location: Couch
Attitude: Elated. Amused. Excited.

Today flew by pretty fast, mostly cause I was all over the place. We were pretty busy. The meeting with my boss's boss's boss went well thankfully. She's pretty awesome and everyone was able to be there so I'm actually thrilled, plus got all my questions answered. Now I can find a peer library's policies and compare for the paper, then I'll be done with it. Well, I have to physically write the paper but I have most of the stuff planned out already so it won't take too long. But it was fun, meeting with coworkers and talking about work stuff which is totally new for me. Plus they called it my "stomping ground" so that made me smile.

Quotes of the day:
- "....or at least eat cheese...." friend about mice, long story
- "You said it in one sentence, they said it in four..." meeting about library policies
- "I'll take a side of manic any day." an even longer story

Songs of the night: I'd post the songs that were stuck in my head all day but I don't want to get them stuck in yours aka "Yeah, yeah the jury...yeah, yeah the jury...." which is from a play called the Trial of the Big Bad Wolf. I was in kindergarten and was a jury member. It was an all female jury and we fawned over the wolf because he was so charming. Now everytime someone talks about a jury or says the word "jury" that comes to mind and goes on repeat.
First up Paramore's "The Only Exception"

and on a completely opposite note you get Michael Buble's "Haven't Met You Yet"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AJmKkU5POA
which you're gonna have to actually visit youtube for since it won't let me embed it. sad day.

Plans for tonight:
Making food without burning anything (i say it as a plan being all optimistic instead of listing it as just an idea)
Watching Bonekickers which I got from the library.
Then sleep. Lots and lots of sleep.

have a good one.

yeah yeah the jury.......yeah yeah the jury......yeah yeah the jury.....the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth....yeah yeah the jury......yeah yeah the jury....
