Attitude: Tired, yes that's an attitude.
Slept in, went to work, shelved books, came home, watched NCIS on USA - hooray for the season one marathon, I love Kate - went to nephew's basketball game, got updated on who was winning the SAG awards while at the game, came home from the game and watched the rest of the SAG awards and now am sitting on the couch staring at my computer screen. I'm exhausted. My nephew is actually quite good btw, very aggressive under the hoop, he made me proud. I hope I get to go to the games at my high school, every year they do a tournament with all the grade schools. I remember playing in those, oh man, and it seemed so much more fast paced at the time. But now just watching it's like, was it really like this when we played? Maybe it was and I'm just building it up in my mind.
The SAG awards were awesome, as always. I'm kind of an awards junkie when it comes to movies and music. I keep up with the nominations and the red carpet stuff, yeah I'm a nerd. But I'm very happy that Natalie Portman won for best actress and Colin Firth for best actor and then that the King's Speech won for best ensemble. That was very exciting, Colin's speech was funny. The speeches usually take so long, some people ramble longer than I do and I secretly want the music to start playing so that they'll go away but his was great.
I'm sad that Glee didn't win tonight but I mean, it's hard to beat Betty White in any category really. So, in their honor, I'll hit you with one of my favorite songs at the moment. They did this Rocky Horror episode in the first part of the second season (now out on DVD btw) which is probably the most well-known episode of the show. It was fantastic, and the music was fantastic. And it came out right before Halloween so Grandma (25-year-old coworker) and I went to go see the real Rocky Horror in a theater for Halloween and I think it scarred her for life. Haha, but it was hilarious because they're yelling out commentary, throwing toast, spraying water guns, so basically if you haven't already seen the movie you have no idea what's going on because you can't hear what they're actually saying. Since the movie really doesn't have much of a plotline anyway that makes things even harder to follow. Luckily I had already seen it so I kind of went with the flow. And I'm thinking about going again next year. It was just too funny. So, in honor of Glee and Rocky Horror I'll hit you with my music rec of the Glee version of Rocky Horror's probably best and most popular song the "Time Warp". Enjoy.

Lazy day with the Warehouse gang, Hey Monday and Stacy Clark
Hooray for a day off! I debated calling for pizza but I thought it would be mean to make them drive all the way out here on the icy roads. Plus I don't have cash. Maybe they would let me pay in fruit rollups. I have plenty of those. I would cook but while the flames that would shoot out from my kitchen would temporarily keep me warm with all this snow it probably would be bad in the long-run. Whatever, more microwave lasagne for me.
Me and my big fat cat had a lazy day. Slept in til noon - don't tell mom - mostly because I looked outside and was like whoa! k, not driving on that. There's like a foot of snow all over our parking lot at my complex.
So, I finished Warehouse 13 season one - um whoa, cliffhanger! and debated watching the other things I have out - The Runaways, Blazing Saddles, The Nanny, Murder She Wrote - yes I'm a complex woman - but nothing sounded good. So I'm just listening to music instead. And on Facebook. Which I haven't been. In forever. Good to have it updated.
So, instead of rambling about things I haven't done today I'll hit you with another music rec and get back to my laziness. Lately I've been feeling artsy - most of the recs have been pretty artsy, but I listen to a lot of top 40 stuff too. This one is a little artsy I guess as well. Itunes freebies are always fun and lead to other good stuff which is how I found Stacy Clark and also Hey Monday. Both great bands. I love the entire "Connect the Dots" CD by Stacy Clark but my favorite is probably Touch and Go or White Lies. I highly recommend you check them out.
Hey Monday is quickly rising to the top of my list of favorite underrated bands. I hope they hit it big time soon. Catchy melodies and lyrics. And a lot of angry chick stuff too, haha.

Again, not a spectacular video but really, I don't know what would be one nowadays. I just flashback to the early days of TRL when they were good. Once upon a time. But this one isn't awful so I'm embedding it.

Happy , Happy New Year!
Every time I heard the words 'happy new year' I could hear Captain Raydor's voice in my head and then Tao's follow-up, "I really hate her! Did I say that out loud?" Gotta love the Closer. I'm beginning to really like Mary McDonnell. Excellent addition to the cast, even if it is only a recurring guest spot.
And Wow, 1-1-11, that's new.
Today was our family xmas, so right now I'm exhausted and it's only 9:55. Sad day. Two nights of staying up late will do that to a girl I guess. First, two nights ago, I got to watch us get our butts wooped by Washington. That was just pitiful and sucks because now I gotta put up with my coworker who said we were gonna lose. There was no motivation from us at all. It's like our whole team is depressed or something. Bo needs to turn that around.
Then, last night was filled with playstation - aka SSX Tricky, Simpson's Road Rage and Dance Dance Revolution - drinking lots of sparkling cider even though we're both of age, flipping between Carson and Ryan and their crews (um, did Dick Clark look really at retiring age to anyone else or is that just me? and c'mon MTV step it up! Jersey Shore? Seriously?!) and falling asleep watching Boy Meets World. Same thing every year, but the Boy Meets World is new. We usually watch Pirates or Jason Bourne. Also, we didn't run around the house at midnight, sad day. Usually we bring a bottle of sparkling cider with us, shake it and then pop the cork spraying it everywhere in the process of awesomeness. (I say that word a lot, Awesomeness. I've noticed that my aunt has started saying it as well. It's catchy. Say it with me: Awesomeness.) Anyway, we took this year off of running as it was freaking freezing out there. And we're old. We figured that out while playing DDR and almost dying out after the first round. But it was fun. Same thing every year. Nothing really planned - it was funny. She texted and was like "you have plans for new years" and I was like "yeah with you!" and that was as far as the planning process went. We go with the flow.
And what was up with the countdown acts this year? I really need to listen to the radio more or something because the only people I recognized were MCR and Avril (hooray for a comeback from her btw).
Interesting fact about CK #-whatever-we're-up-to: I don't listen to the radio. I listen to my ipod. Constantly. And have a hookup for my car so it plays through the speakers.
So, because of this interesting fact, I had to text my best friend - "okay, i'm lame. who is that?" But she didn't know either so that was helpful.
Good times.
Today was awesome but exhausting as well. Big dinner with the family, excellent food as always, then opening presents which always turns into some kind of a disaster area with all the wrapping paper everywhere. Our family splurges. After the disaster area was cleared we played - you guessed it - some Apples to Apples which is fastly becoming a family favorite. This time, Sarah and Mark got hosed, ha! And Cindy and Teina dominated. We didn't play it for four hours, but it was around 2. Times flies. And again with the good one-liners: "Okay, who put 'labor unions' as irresistable?" "Steakspeare" "Toasters? Someone got tired of looking at that one in their hand. I got discarded." "Hmmm, amputations or Sunday drivers for horrifying?"
After that was pitch - 2 tables so the losers walked a whole 2 feet to the other one. No real walk of shame like at my aunt's when you had to go all the way downstairs. Cindy and I partnered up and did pretty well. I shot the moon with a AKQJ2 and drew the 3. Awesome.
Then more good food, meanwhile kids running all over the place. But they're between the ages of 1 and 6, what else are they supposed to be doing? While Mandy and Joe hung with the adults. Some crazy grandma gave two 4-year-old-boys fake shotguns that make noise when you pull the trigger. I'm sure their parents are loving that right about now. Don't look at me. I didn't pick them out. Geez mom. And my oldest sister got them fake chainsaws. It's hilarious. One year, like years ago, my second sister Sarah gave our only nephew at the time a drum set. He loved it, his parents didn't. Ever since, it's like they've been trying to one up each other for loudness just for payback. It's become kind of a running joke.
So, I guess it's time for the official list. The dreaded one. Which I've cut down to hopefully things that might actually last for longer than this week.
1. Write more, read more, eat less.
The first two are healthy and entertaining and will keep me out of trouble. The third is basically just going to become no food after 10PM. And more eating healthy during the day instead of being lazy and picking up Arby's just because it's on my way home. The drivethru guy knows me. It's funny and pathetic all in one. We always end with , "see you around."
Which leads me to number
2. Learn how to cook. At some point this year. Doesn't have to be right away. Just more than mac-and-cheese and microwave meals. I'm putting it off because I like my apartment and don't want to watch as it goes up in flames. Read Sketch and Edit Make Grilled Cheese if you get a chance. Based on a true story.
3. I'm not putting exercise more. Because I know it won't happen. I'm on my feet all day, and I'm not going to wake up early or have any energy by the end of the day to go to the rec center. What I am putting is keeping my mind open to taking self-defense classes this summer with my favorite patron.
4. Is to work on time management. Grad school starts on the 15th. I already have homework for it I haven't started. That all starts Monday. Ordering the textbook, visiting all the websites, finding out what I need to have done by the first class. My aunt is awesome because she teaches on that campus so she's going to show me where I'm going and where to park. Gotta love family connections.
Those are all I'm ready to fully put in writing. I'm sure more will develop throughout the month.
In other news, Congrats go out to the TCU Hornfrogs! Woohoo! I routed for them in baseball in Omaha so I felt I should again today. We got to watch parts of the games between family stuff.
Also, I'm thinking Oregon as the champion over Auburn. I've always liked them. Maybe that's because we never play them but still...
Music Rec: Two musical groups I'm commending just for the heck of it are Ashlyne Huff - check out her single "Heart of Gold" and Theory of a Dead Man's "Since You've Been Gone". Both very good emotional-from-the-heart songs, one more upbeat than the other.
It's a decent video since there is actual music and dancing, that's new for MTV nowadays, sadly.
Now that's depressing.
Neither video is spectacular but you get the point. The music is good, and underrated. So I'm recommending it. Spread the word.

Christmas Came Indeed!
Even though I didn't watch the Grinch - will have to tomorrow - or listen to any Doris Day - left cd at apartment - or watch Home Alone - watched old dvr'd xmas episodes of favorite shows instead, Christmas did indeed come.
My great aunt came out after church and we played some pitch and watched the parade, (hooray for Amber Riley!!) Dad and I won 3 games out of 4. After she left we opened presents, ate more food, mom and dad danced to Squeezebox - long story - then we laid around and watched tv. Well, I laid around and watched, Mom fell asleep in her chair as usual, and I'm sure Dad watched football or something in the other room. We're very social. The presents were fun, Dad was excited about his The Who cd which he put in immediately and Mom liked all her stuff from me - asti, earrings and bath n body stuff. Some of my highlights were pajama pants, a sweatshirt with headphones in it as the strings, fancy vodka with shot glasses (my aunt picked out. mom was like "how does kathy know you collect shot glasses?" Cause I got one in Kansas when we went to the last Husker game down there. Mom thinks it's bizarre that I collect them but I got it from my brother - he does it too.) and wine in a bottle shaped like a cat. Seriously. It's awesome. I'm going to have to upload a picture.
All-in-all it was a good day.
Xmas episodes I've watched this weekend - NCIS, The Closer, Bones, How I Met Your Mother, Glee, NCIS Los Angeles
Wow, I totally need a life. But it's Christmas. I'm entitled to be lazy, right?
I'm actually kind of sad that it's over. It always feels so weird, that you wait so long for it to come and in like 24 hours it's over. Oh well, technically ours isn't over since our family xmas isn't until New Years. Since all my siblings have in-laws and lives and stuff it was the only free day. This means I get to go back to work this week and buy more stuff, woohoo!
I'm still missing something for my sister. And I think I'm gonna go find more for mom since we're getting her one big thing - which she'll love - but I dunno how much other things they're getting her. And I gave her all my other stuff today.
I'm not allowed to buy my niece anything more - or so my sister says. I've spent far too much on her, but honestly I spoil her. It's true. She's the oldest and she thinks I'm the cool aunt and she's funny. So's my nephew. They're both really funny. But she takes after me with the writing and the one-liners she's stolen from me and the red highlights - her mother hates me for that last one. I hope she doesn't inherit my talent for procrastination. And she's taller than me already. I honestly can't stand next to her anymore.
I mentioned last time that I love the songs. That's one of my favorite parts of Christmas, right after crazy moments with family. My all-time favorite xmas song is Oh Holy Night - well, depending on who's singing it. Christina Aguilara's version isn't my favorite, Lea Michelle did it justice on the Glee xmas cd. Another gift from mom. But my second favorite is the 12 Days of Christmas. Relient K has a great version but no matter which version I listen to the only ones I end up singing over the actual lyrics are Jeff Foxworthy's or Janice Dickinson's. Weird combination, huh? Especially when it ends up as something like "5 Flannel Shirts, 4 Italian Suits, 3 Former Husbands, 2 Giant Breasts and some parts to a Mustang GT."
Since it's officially Christmas I'll share my favorites.
Number one xmas video on my list is of course Janice Dickinson's. I die every time I watch it. It's highly inappropriate but it's sooo funny.
I love 1:03 I literally fall over laughing at that part and 1:13...and 2:12...too funny.

Pitch tourney + The Hero of Canton, the Man They Call Jayne.....
Ohhh, emotional high. Such a good day. Went to work downtown this morning, and aside from the creepy guy in the lab staring at me (like i moved and his eyes followed, it was creepy) that was fun. Short and sweet. Then went to Barnes and Noble for some last minute shopping, then came home to wrap and THEN family xmas at my aunts! Not like immediate family but aunts and uncles xmas. We used to have these big pitch tournaments that lasted all night and we thought we should bring them back. It was awesome. I got partnered up with my cousin and we finished the night at the winner's table! Yeah!! Took down my undefeated sister and brother but then lost to my nephew and sister-in-law. My nephew somehow ended up with the perfect hand on the last hand. AKQJJ2. Seriously. Who gets those? Ever?! So they won toasters for being "hot" and my dad and sister got snowmen for being "cold". They were the ultimate losers. Ha. Too much fun.
And I got some awesome presents. This wicked cool hat from my aunt. I loved it so much I wore it for the rest of the night - tournament included. Got a bunch of pics taken, will have to upload one. It's very "the man they call jayne" except black and multi-colored instead of yellow and orange. If you get the reference.
Tomorrow is work then head to the farmhouse with my cat and all my presents since I have 24-26th off. Woohoo!
Now is eating breadsticks, watching the Nanny and then crashing.

Thank God the Dog Days Are Over
Today and yesterday were kind of crappy. I told my grad rep why they were crappy, because apparently I like to ramble to people who have nothing to do with the situation but are very supportive, (which suddenly sounds a lot like a blog) And she said, and I quote, "You do more things right than wrong. Your colleagues speak highly of your energy, good ideas and work ethic." Awwwww... right? Totally lying, but I'll take it. She's awesome. Jalapeno Margaritas awesome! Which is like a 10/10 coming from me.
Hmmm... maybe I should make an official "Scale of Awesome". That might be interesting. Like a 7/10 would be the NCIS marathon that was on tv today. They were all seasons 3 and later and although Ziva is awesome I love Sasha Alexander and Kate was my favorite character until they killed her off. So, good episodes but I had seen them all. Which, I guess, makes sense since I own all the seasons. But there were commercial breaks which seriously made me want to pull out the dvds and watch those episodes without them. And usually I do. But today I cleaned instead.
A 5/10 would be the average day - not too awesome but not crappy enough that I want to yell and throw things.
A 3/10 would be today and yesterday because of the incident, but also because it was good day up until that point.
And a -10/10 would be the movie Rushmore. Two hours of my life that I want back. Seriously. I compare all crappy movies to it.
On a different subject, you know, it's amazing how many chores you can get done when you're avoiding doing something else. Like usually, I put off cleaning my apartment. Because it takes forever and I have no motivation unless my mother is coming to visit. Today, after putting it off for weeks, I needed to register for my grad school class. But, since I didn't want to do that because it involved calling the IT people and having them walk me through it, my apartment is now practically spotless. Like, you can actually see the floor, like all of it! My cat walked around meowing like, "whoa? what's going on? what's that big gray loud thing she's pushing around? maybe i should run and hide in the closet." Which he did, so I vacuumed and now it's all pretty. Don't worry, I'm sure it won't last long.
And, because it's been a crappy week so far, I watched Glee and here's the clip of the week. I bought the song on itunes and have had it blasting in my headphones on repeat. I feel it fits my life at this time.
It's reversely screened but it does the trick. Is that a word? Reveresly? I'm making it one. It seems to me that it's the cast singing it as themselves instead of their characters and that it's not really choreographed. Which I loved.
