I could write a blog. I have thoughts.

Drapes, Fireworks, Hairless Cats, Flex Seal, CWS, Music Overload

Dear Blogspot,
Today I was a Ninja of Awesome. I was a kickass shelver this morning - shelved for four hours straight while avoiding the mass of children that had congregated in the middle of the library to watch a musician. He was pretty good actually but now I have that "green grass grows all around" song stuck in my head. Ugh.

Just wanted to let you know that my Mom is pretty much awesome. Today, we bought drapes. Yes, after living here for over a year I'm officially sick of waking up to the sun at 5AM. So she bought me drapes. Plus the curtain rods. Now we just gotta get the maintenance dudes to install them. They are also pretty cool guys. Then, I went fireworks shopping while she got my oil changed - also her idea. And then, I hit up the McDonalds drive-thru right behind her and I went to pay for my pop and the chick gave me the weirdest look ever and said, "Um...the lady in front of you paid for yours. So, you're good to go." and I was "That's my mom." and the look on her face became like one of those epiphany looks "Ohhh! Okay!" So I called Mom and she said when she said that to her the chick probably thought it was some pay it forward kind of thing. But seriously, the look on her face was hysterical. So yeah, my Mom is awesome.

And, speaking of mothers, got to see my dorm mom today! She loves me. Bought some fireworks and stayed under 100. Which is impressive for me. I know that that may seem high to you but I go all out. When I see the fireworks tents go up I'm like ecstatic. It's like when they start selling candy canes. I'm addicted to those things and stock up. I still have 2 boxes in my cabinet. But yeah, fireworks! Totally stoked! Before we used to do this big block party thing at Oldest Sister's place but then they moved so since then we haven't really found a permanent replacement. This year we're going to Second Sister's house. I think we did that last year as well. Maybe that'll be our new place. Dad is making steaks. Or so I've heard. I told Oldest Sister that she has to make frog-eye salad - anyone else know what that is? it's fantastic - because she owes me. Even though she doesn't really. Or she could just teach me how to make it. I don't think I could burn that. But you never know, I did burn grilled cheese. Go here: My Life in Closed Captions: Sketch and Edit Make Grilled Cheese

Another highlight, I pulled into my parking lot earlier today and saw this plastic looking cat in a windowsill sitting like stock still. And I was like, "I hope that's fake, cause if not that's a really unfortunate-looking cat." And then....it moved. So someone in my building has a really unfortunate-looking cat. One of those hairless cats, you know? And I love cats, I am a cat person. Even though mine bites me. But hairless cats just freak me out. Plus it kinda reminds me of that episode of Friends where Rachel gets a hairless cat because her grandma had one and it's like vicious so they give it to Gunther.

Dude! I want Flex Seal! It's rubber in a can! You could like make anything waterproof. And the second can's free!

Sorry, more ESPN commercials. Maybe tonight I'll dream about building a raft with spray-can rubber. That Alec Balwin thinking I'm Jesus dream was just plain weird.

I'm sad that the CWS - that's College World Series, not Carpooling With Santa *cough*SecondSister*cough* might be over tonight. Even though I want SC to win it. It would be super cool for them to win the last game in Rosenblatt and the first game in Pseudo-Rosenblatt. Yes, Pseudo Rosenblatt. Because TD Ameritrade is just too long.

So, it was a good day, which is funny because the next few days for the past couple of years have kind of sucked. Long story. But we need some good jam out music for a good day.

"I've Had the Time of My Life" Glee Cast Version

Wow, Sam with short hair. Retro.

"Forget You" Glee Cast Version

Is it weird that my favorite Glee cast member is a guest star? Holly Holiday is my hero. Seriously. Constant Ninja of Awesome.
and yes, I know I've posted this more than I've posted any other song. Want me to post the other 2 I post more than any of the others too?

Why not.
They're good dancing tunes. Well, the first one is. The second will be more of a cool down I should go to bed thing.

"You Drive Me Crazy" Shakin' Stevens

He's Welsh. And it was the 80's. Deal with it. I love it!

"Reflecting Light" Sam Phillips

Cool down time. It's in my top 10. Pretty sure these last three are all in my top 10.

Gonna finish the game then crash.

OUT!

This Magnet Moment...

Magnet Magnet Magnet...terrible. I am a freaking magnet. And I didn't even do anything this time! I was sitting at my desk and he comes up and starts hitting on me. I wasn't even in public service! I was at the lab! Answering the phone every two minutes!
Okay, so Grandma (25-yr-old-coworker, I really need to think of another nickname that doesn't take quite that explanation) calls me a magnet. Because I attract all types of weirdos and they like latch on or something. Apparently I'm "too nice to the weird boys." That's what she says every time I tell her about a new magnet moment. Which is what I call them. Unfortunately, it's a conversation I've been having a lot lately. Anyway, these "magnet moments" range all the way from being hit on and/or stalked by teenage boys to old women. Although my favorite was this guy around my age - I was helping him find sheet music cause the music goddess was already gone and he slipped me this piece of paper with his name (illegible btw) and a note at the bottom saying "likes ass or jazz". Yeah, that was something to scrapbook. It cracked myself, Grandma (25...), and my favorite college professor up majorly. Actually that was my second choice for the name of this blog, haha. But then people would have thought that it was me saying that, therefore My Life in Closed Captions won.
Today's Magnet Moment was interesting. He asked me out, I said I don't date patrons - learned that the hard way, then he tried to find a loophole saying something about how he would ask me out at the other branch or something. But he would still be a patron there so I'm confused. Whatever. But that's going to be awkward, since he goes to both branches. I'm toast. And I'm tired of being toast.
Think I'm just going to start being mean to anyone that looks at me twice. No, couldn't do that. I'd get in trouble. I'll just run instead. That works. And it helps when your "big brother" is around to save you. Haha, another fun coworker who has had unfortunate experiences with patrons as well.
It was funny, I described the guy to him earlier, then someone looking like the guy came to the desk to ask a question about parking meters and big brother comes from out of nowhere saying, "it's time to the count the money, let's go." Wrong guy, but still appreciated. Good to know I've got people who have my back. And Grandma (25... yeah that's getting old it's time for a new nickname)...where was I... oh yeah Grandma (...) says she'll play girlfriend, but I won't see her again 'til like Thursday or something since I'm at the other branch until then. And I'm sure he'll show up at that branch. Hooray...Not. Toast. Freaking magnetic qualities.

What else...oh yeah, tonight I'm going bowling...yes, bowling. I suck, but it's still fun. Usually I only go once a year when we take the kids at teen camp. We have our usual group with our usual nicknames - Boomer, Obi-Wan, Chickenfro, Maynard, this year Scuba Steve joined us as well. I'll let you guess which one of those is mine. Anyway, tonight I'm going with Boomer (there, eliminated an option for you) and Nic, plus I think Tyler will be there as well. We grew up together, same grade school and both went away to same high school so it's always fun to see him. His two little brothers have to put up with me still since I direct the play. Speaking of, I'll get to talk to Nic about that tonight, I gotta remember to ask about the rap and commercial.

Anyway, songs for tonight:
"Something's Got a Hold on Me" Christina Aguilera from Burlesque

Figured the title fit the whole magnet theme. Love the whole 50s/60s style.

"You Drive Me Crazy" Shakin' Stevens

This is at least the third time I've posted this, yes I'm aware. But it's one of my favorites. And it also fits the theme. Well, the title does. Pretty sure these people weren't sent down to give me a thrill. Someone else a thrill perhaps.

Alright, food then bowling. Have a good one.

You Drive Me Crazy 'til I'm Shattered

This weekend was a bit like madness - awesome one minute and the next total crap. Yesterday I actually got "all-hail"d by a coworker, she fake bowed and everything, it was amusing. Apparently I'm the go-to tech geek when virtual services has the day off. That was one of the highlights. One of the lowlights? Coworker calling in sick and us running the whole main library with a 4 person team. Let's put it this way, there was never a dull moment. Ever. Because there was no downtime. But at least the day flew by. And my supervisor came through unscathed. Barely. Felt bad for him, he was so stressed, but he pulled it off grandly.

So, to go along with the whirlwind of a weekend, I give you Shakin' Stevens!
Am I so weird to know this song? My partner in Delayed...Reaction knew it too but from when he was overseas. So we did it for karaoke a while ago...wow...karaoke, haven't done that in a while. Add that to the hobbies favorites week post. And killing plants. Not that it's my favorite but it's definitely been a hobby lately.
Anyway, here's "You Drive Me Crazy" by Shakin' Stevens.

Diggin' the whole dancing around in jeans thing. It's very George Michael. But I'm pretty sure he came before George Michael. The majority of Shaky's music came late 70's/early 80's. I think George Michael was more late 80's/early 90's.

Yes, I'm aware that this next song is nothing like the first one, but I said the weekend was madness so this post shall too be madness!
"Shattered" by Trading Yesterday

This is version two, the original version is just piano from 2:14 to 3:23, no vocal or guitar. Both are good but this is the one that came up when I searched therefore this is the one I'm posting. Love it, actually had it as my myspace song. Think it still might be my myspace song. Should probably check/update that sooner or later.

In other news:
-I attempted to watch the pilot of The Tudors but wasn't as enthused about it as I thought I would be. Everyone that I've talked to about it loves it, I just couldn't get into it.
-Thinking about doing another themed week, maybe best 90's music or 80's music or something. Thoughts?
