"I had actually been committed to play Margaret Thatcher, and Meryl was Steven's first choice for Lincoln."

Aw, the Oscars.

I'm an awards show junkie. Which I'm sure you've realized. Especially if we're friends on Facebook, then your newsfeed kind of blows up.

Sorry.

Anyway, Sketch and I like to commentate. I had a couple of other guests jump in tonight, it was awesomeness.

Here are some of the highlights:

Seth MacFarlane as the host.
While some of you may have found him obnoxious I found him charming. And that's coming from someone who HATES Family Guy. With a passion. I can't stand it. However, tonight he rocked.

Here are some of my favorite one-liners:

-"And the quest to make Tommy Lee Jones laugh begins now."
-"That's as bad as it gets if it makes you feel better. It's really not as bad as it gets."
-"It's an honor that everyone else said no."
-"Tonight's ceremony is being watched by close to a billion people worldwide. Which is why Jodie Foster will be up here in a bit to ask for her privacy."
-"It'll be 16 years before she's too old for Clooney."
-"I really hope I don't lose to that old lady, Jennifer Lawrence."
-"So you got nominated for an Oscar. Something a 9-year-old can do."
-"Whether she wins or loses, it's just an honor that Meryl Streep wasn't nominated."*about J-Law *
-"150 years and it's still too soon."
-"Daniel Day Lewis, loved the beard but Lincoln's voice was kinda weird."
-"Adele's screaming out her song."
-"You guys have made some beautiful and inspiring movies. I made Ted."
-"Current Star Trek stars and future Priceline spokespeople."
-"Plus the cast of Prometheus explains what the hell was going on there."
-"And also a celebration of every women's innate ability to never ever let anything go."
-"They remember when this town was nothing but cocaine trees as far as the eyes could see. It's late."
-"He's a boy wizard and she's a girl vampire. So together they're pretty much everything the Christian Rights say is wrong with Hollywood."
-"It doesn't matter that his name sounds like a Russian man sneezing."

He had some fun back and forth with fellow stars as well:

Seth: "You'll be at the future Oscars when the rest of us are dead."
Kristin Chenoweth: "You have all Tom Cruise's talen, and you're equally as tall."

Sally Field: "Oh hell, they're gonna give it to Anne."

Captain Kirk: "Oh trust me, in July 2015 you join the chorus..."

and there were some great presenters as well

Most of the cast of the Avengers - minus Scarlett and Chris - presented for Best Cinematographer
Chris Evans: "Convey that Robert is as tall as the rest of us by framing out the apple boxes that he so often is standing on."
...
Samuel L. Jackson: "Superhero can't even get an envelope open."

Jennifer Aniston: "Welcome to the club, Chan. Not so fun is it?" *about waxing*
Gotta love Jennifer Aniston. She's in my top 3 favorite actresses of all time, the other two being Drew Barrymore (happy birthday 2 days late) and Rachel Weisz. But now I love her even more cause she's engaged to Seamus!! aka Justin Theroux. Who is fantastic. "I'm gonna teach you and your friends about pain." look a Drew tie-in. and No, that will never get old.

My two favorite speeches were for Best Picture,
Ben Affleck: "I want to thank my wife. Who I don't normally associate with Iran."

and Daniel Day Lewis for Best Actor.

Day Lewis: "It's a strange thing because three years ago, before we decided to do a straight swap, I had actually been committed to play Margaret Thatcher. And Meryl was Steven's first choice for Lincoln. I'd like to see that version. And Steve didn't have to persuade me to play Lincoln, but I had to persuade him that perhaps if I was going to do it, that Lincoln shouldn't be a musical."

I died.

J-Law rocked it tonight as well winning for best actress and then falling on her way to the stage. "You're only standing because I fell." but really she did deserve it.

And this is gonna sound awful, but my favorite thing of the entire night that I actually went back to watch was her reaction during MacFarlane's Boobs Song. When he said they haven't seen hers and she did this like celebratory fist bump. It's hysterical, and apparently I'm not the only one cause someone's already posted just that part onto YouTube.

Watch this.

I know, I know, it's awful but I died and have rewound it like 8 times.

What else?

I totally freaked out when the cast of Chicago came onstage. And then when Catherine Zeta-Jones performed. And Sketch knows me so well, totally called it. But they're fantastic and that was Renee freakin' Zellweger!

Also, Anne Hathaway was excellent - really come a long way from the Princess Diaries. Which I'm allowed to love cause that was my generation. Yes, I really am that young. I'm sorry.

Weird Factors:
Totally weird that there was a tie. Hasn't been one since 1986, there have now been 5.
-Tonight's
-Barbara Steisand and Katharine Hepburn for best actress in 1968,
-2 more ties in the Best Documenary category in 1949 and 1986
-Plus once for Best Live Action Short Film in 1986.

What was with the first lady on the Oscars? Though I guess it's not completely out there, Bill Clinton did introduce Lincoln at the Emmy's.

Another weird thing, the orchestra was performing live from a totally different location? But I guess it worked.

Anyway, it was a great night of fun for me and my commentators.

Alright, on to the fiction cause I'm counting the above clip as my song of the day. Cause really, what tops that?

another short one, but yesterday's was long enough to make up for it and the one before that.

Life of a Teenage Writer: Part Five

Sunday had flown by pretty quickly. It usually did. Grams said that it was because it was his last day before he was forced to go back to school. On Monday he returned to school and tried remain unnoticed. He wasn’t sure if the rumors of what happened at the book launch had reached the ears of the popular kids. If they hadn’t they would soon. Everyone knew everything about everybody in a small town. Middlebrook was no different from any other small town. Rumors spread like wildfire. After his parents were killed in the shooting it was the only thing people talked about for months. Nothing like that had ever happened like that before in Middlebrook.

Some people were really supportive at first, bringing over casseroles and trying to distract him, but other people preferred just to gossip about the incident and go quiet when he or Grams would walk into the vicinity. That’s when A.J. started watching his feet while he walked instead of looking out at the world. Watching your feet meant seeing less people stare when you walked into a room.

The only thing the town had going for them was their football team. Their quarterback, Chris Parsons, was going to take them to state this year. Everywhere he went people would pat him on the back and tell him how great he had played. He was a star and he knew it. His blonde hair was always perfect and his rich parents had supplied him with all the designer labeled clothes anyone could ever want. So when he didn’t get respect from say, a writer who had dreams of his own, he’d shut him into a locker or have his buddies throw him in the dumpster.

A.J. managed to avoid Chris and make it through the day unscathed. After school he grabbed his homework and walked out of the building. He pulled out his car keys but dropped them when he noticed someone who wasn’t supposed to be there.

and i'm out.

Go Big Red!

Nope, not dead. Just busy with homework and work work.

Posted my big fat huge blueprint assignment and my book group narrative so I'm good until class next Saturday. I'm not happy with the blueprint, but apparently I'm a perfectionist when it comes to library designs. I came up with four different designs and posted the one I hated the least. We had to move the desk. Which is fine. Except when you read through ALA's recommedations that you should be able to see through all the stacks from the desk. So that meant I had to move all the stacks. And you can't just move them and call it good, you have to angle them so you can see through them. Seriously.

But after I figured out positioning I knocked out the back wall, HUZZAH!! and built Mr. Boss Man a storytime area complete with couches and actual space for kids to spread out in. Not to mention a study room, ELL section, and a computer lab. And all I needed was 20 more feet. Not that it's actually possible, but it would be pretty cool. Maybe take us from being the first on the chopping block every time there's a budget crisis.

I suppose I can post them if you really want to see them. But like I said, four designs and I posted the one I hated the least. I'm not a fan. And it's just a sketch. And I'm not the artist, I'm the writer, big difference between Sketch and Edit there.

Anyway, crashed at about 2AM on my couch last night. That's when the mass amount of caffeine and adrenaline finally ran out. It was like I had submitted my assignment and wanted to crash, but I couldn't crash cause I was still so hyped up. Needless to say I was exhausted all day today. I was lucky in my weed of the adult fiction that more books didn't fall on my head. Only one. The rest fell on my feet. Bonus points.

And then my adrenaline came back full throttle tonight for an awesome Husker Volleyball game against Michigan. Tickets from the Cool Aunt, she rocks! Yep, did the "Roof! Roof! Roof!" cheer for blocks, yelled out "Werth" whenever he announced it - although the dude behind me was calling her "Hannah The Hammer", which I found amusing. She is pretty kickass and rocks those sport-goggles. And then to replace "Cook" they yelled "Root" who is the backup setter, even though she's a senior and Cook is a junior. Cook was missed. Seriously. I know that there should be punishment cause that was a stupid thing to do, but we need her back soon.

Michigan dominated the first set, wasn't even close. You could tell they were adjusting to the different setter. But it's okay because we came back and beat them in the next three sets. Finally got some rhythm going. And the crowd was in it, duuuude, so much louder there than at Devaney. Couldn't hear myself think whenever we had a big rally. Mancuso Jr had a big game, heard her name about every minute in the last couple sets. Paige Hubl's gotta a killer serve, very impressive. I was surprised cause we didn't hear a lot of "Delano!"s, and not as many "Werth!"s either until the last few sets. We were just off. But we pulled it together in time for a rockin' game. Sometimes the blowouts aren't as fun. And they fly by. This one was an actual battle for every point.

Music Recs of the Day:

"Country Roses" SNL Skit Jennifer Aniston host

For some reason whenever I do a weed list or major shifting I sing Dana Jean Harley's songs in my head. In order. "I'm talking to you Pam Smidley!" No idea why. They just get stuck in my head. It's like when I'm shifting I think about where I did it last and that's the song that I was singing the first time so it just keeps going and going and going...

"Adalida" George Strait live in 1996

stuck in my head.

So, big day tomorrow. Yes, I'm working, but it has nothing to do with the library... for once. I'm actually quite proud of myself at this moment. All will be explained tomorrow.

"and she said Mama, why are there snowflakes? and I said Crystal, because of you..."

What are they made out of panda?

I need new dishes.
Yes, I know you gave me some but 2 of them broke, the third ran off with the crazy ex-boyfriend and the fourth is in the dishwasher. Now I'm just left with that plastic stuff. So you're taking me dishware shopping. Just dishware. Not clothingware.

"Just Go With It"

Loving library DVD's

Starring three of my favorite people - Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston, Nicole Kidman plus Dave Matthews, Brooklyn Decker and Nick Swardson

Danny's (Sandler) fiance cheats on him, so he drinks away his sorrows in a bar, while there he meets a nice girl and realizes that wearing a ring and claiming that his wife is horrible to him will get him women. As time goes on he gets more women and has a different fake wife story every week. Danny is a plastic surgeon, his single mother assistant is Katherine aka Aniston who knows everything about him and, after he meets the girl of his dreams and she thinks he's actually married, suggests she tell the girl he's getting a divorce. The girl, Palmer played by Decker, seems to take it well but says she needs to hear it from the wife. As there is no wife Danny talks Katherine into being his fake wife, "I want to ceate the illusion i had a hot first wife!", and after she slips up about having kids her kids get involved in the whole fake family. And then there's Eddie, Danny's cousin who's mostly for comic relief. But the preview basically tells you all that.
I'm giving it a 8/10 on the Scale of Awesome. Actually watching it again right now. It's actually a semi-family friendly movie, and with Happy Madison in charge you know you're gonna get the usuals Kevin Nealon, Allen Covert, but no Rob Schneider or Kevin James. It was a good break from the hectic day kind of movie. Funny but not over the top, trying to hard kind of stuff. The cousin is hysterical, Swardson did an awesome job with an accent and just body language - I don't want to give anything away, but watch the movie.

"Why do you keep calling me Henderson?"
"Just go with it."

Was excited to see Nicole Kidman back in a comedy - yes I'm one of those Moulin Rouge crazies, she's one of my favorites, as is Ewan McGregor. The fact that he's in Star Wars just makes him that much more awesome.
He also starred in this reality show called "the Long Way Down" which was him and his friend driving motorcycles all the way through some country. They stop at all these remote places and meet unique people, I'm on the list for it, I'll keep you posted. There's also a book about the whole thing as well with pictures and fun anecdotes.
But yes, rent Just Go With It from the library, it's free and it's funny. Plus you'll understand why it's so fun to substitute real words with "Devlin". Vernacular skills rock.
Loved the Adam Sandler Jennifer Aniston dynamic just because they're so good at comedy and this one especially because they just went back and forth the whole time.

"...Mix that with the smell of like a dead cat and some fajitas and you've got what you call yourself a a severly diminished libido."

Song of the night:

"Mockingbird" Carly Simon and James Taylor

dad made me listen to this over and over. guess that's where i get the repeating playlists thing from.

I'm talking to you Pam Smidley!

Okay, so I posted a link to this in my favorites week youtube post but it's been stuck in my head today so I figured I would post the whole thing this time.

"And she said Mama, why are there snowflakes? And I said Crystal, because of you."

You know it's not a good sign when you get not one but two calls from family at work. Today was not fun. But Smo is here so it's cool. We watched Hot in Cleveland season 1, some Boy Meets World, and now RED plus eating burgers and chinese, it's awesome. Now she's on the phone with another classmate here in town. Aww, the memories from high school.

Aannnd she's out of here.
