I could write a blog. I have thoughts.

Life at the library, adventures with friends and other hysterics...

cause i can shine my light on, i can shine my light on you.

No I'm not dead.

But my computer was.

Hence the radio silence.

Thankfully now it is fixed.

As you've noticed when it's broken so am I.

Not sure how to function without it, yes I am one of those people.

And yes I have the tablet now to keep my sanity but the laptop is still my lifeline.

So what did you miss?

Well, there was Christmas with his family and a little with mine.

But I think I covered that already.

Then there was work.

I got to be at the home branch twice this week already.

Tomorrow we're off early for the holiday.

Well, 4 isn't really early, but it's something so I'm going with it.

What else have you missed?

Oh, the exterminator killed my spiders, yay!

I rambled about that already right?

I think that's where I left off, with my apartment in shambles.

But now the furniture is back where it belongs, the apartment is clean, my computer is fixed, the nervous twitch in my stomach is gone - huzzah for that - so I'm going to bed.

I know, I'm boring, I'm sorry. I'll be more exciting next post cause it's New Years!!

We still have no plans.

For New Years Eve that is, New Years Day is our family Christmas.

Plus the Husker game at 11.

A lot of people aren't excited cause it's a rematch against Georgia and we're gonna lose.

But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe we'll pull it off in some sort of Holiday Miracle.

Let's go with that.

Alright, that's all I got. I'm exhausted.

Song of the Night:

I've Got Your Number Son - She & Him

this one was awesome live. go here.

i was singing this all day today at work.

legit pre-midnight post, holy crap tag in use.

testing, testing...

testing out my new wireless keyboard for my ipad.

its wicked.

but im too lazy to go back and fix the punctuation so bear with me.

bare with me?

no that would be awkward.

im going with bear.

yes i skipped posting yesterday. and yes i almost skipped posting again.

i feel like crap.

my stomach is all over the place and i cant decide if its because im nervous or i have the flu.

but i have yet to puke so im going with nerves.

if only i could figure out what im nervous about.

im hoping the fact that im off tomorrow helps things.

tomorrow is also our first hockey game.

did i mention i got the boyfriend hockey season tickets for his birthday\christmas?

gonna be awesome cause its the rivalry match. we won last time but theyre first in the division and we are basically last so itll be an interesting rematch.

thats basically all i got.

boss's boss's boss congratulated me on graduating yesterday.

today i was at the home branch.

now im watching the avengers, next up iron man 3.

okay thats all i got.

still figuring out how to work this on the ipad so i will trust you to find your own song of the day. report back if you come up with anything good.

Twelve...monkeys working...what is it?

My apartment is in shambles cause the exterminator is coming tomorrow so my furniture is all away from the walls.

I have spiders.

I hate spiders.

I know they're supposed to be good cause they eat stuff but I'd rather not have them anyway.

But I won't dwell on that. Today was Christmas and it was excellent.

Presents with Mom and Dad in the morning. Got a lot of good stuff but my favorites were a waffle iron and a coffee maker.

I know, I think she's trying to get me to wake up early.

Then it was off to the boyfriend's extended family Christmas.

Which was more like we ate and then we watched SNL and Undercover Boss.

After that we headed out to the farm where we watched Mannheim's Christmas concert and Duck Dynasty.

"Better to have a day's worth of fish than a lifetime's worth of crabs. Instead of happy happy happy you'll be crabby, crabby, crabby."

Solid advice.

And that was my day. All in all an excellent Christmas.

Except if I get sick.

I'm hoping I don't get sick. Both his sister and sister-in-law got the flu.

It's making me paranoid cause I feel off, but that could just be because my apartment is in shambles.

On to the music.

Last one - Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck: Day Twelve

Straight No Chaser 12 Days Mashup

Jeff Foxworthy Redneck 12 Days of Christmas

BoyMongoose Indian 12 Days of Christmas

The Voice's 12 Days of Christmas

what's a partridge?

that is a valid turtledove question blake.

and of course my favorite

Janice Dickinson's 12 Days of Christmas

i love especially 1:02 and 1:13.

yes this list continues to grow, and i'm sure i'll find more to add next year.

the problem with this though is that when i sing it it's a mix and comes out more like:

12 Pack of Bud
11 Charges pending
10 Minute yoga
9 Years probation
8 Table Dancers
7-11 Workers
6 Cans of Spam
5 Mother F*cking Ugly Men
4 Italian Suits
3 Former Husbands
2 Giant Breasts
and a totally insufficient dowry.

eh, i like my version better.

2011 Day Twelve - And a totally insufficient dowry.
2012 Day Twelve - Four Italian Suits, Three Former Husbands

From now on our troubles will be miles away.

I love that someone got to my blog by googling "Monica Potter Tall Tall Trees Feet"

Yes, she is in that video, but what is your fascination with her feet?

So today was work - we closed at 2 - and then the boyfriend's family Christmas.

I like their traditions it's very relaxing with no tiny children running all over the place.

Though they did have two dogs there tonight that were really not friends at all.

One fell asleep on my lap, she was really cute.

Anyway, so I went there, we ate supper then went to church. Was a candlelit thing, pretty cool, and then opened presents back at their place.

Got some pretty cool stuff - some awesome Husker chairs, socks, a digital picture frame, giftcards, and a wicked awesome Darth Vader bag.

It's a bag.

Cause I don't wear purses.

And Craig called it a bag and since he's the one who bought it that makes it a bag.

Though that didn't stop my boyfriend from labeling it as purse and calling it that repeatedly.

Even coming up with a little song about it.

Nope. Not a purse. Cause I don't wear purses.

But it is wicked sweet man.

And then of course there was the present from the boyfriend.

He was really good about keeping it secret and had me completely fooled.

Remember a few months ago when we decided - on the fly - that we were gonna go to Reno to see one of his favorite bands play? The full story is on here somewhere - ha, found it. Anyway, he mentioned it once one night before he left for work and when I woke up the next morning he already had the flight and rooms all booked.

Turns out my boyfriend is full of crap.

Instead of taking me to Reno he's taking me back to Vegas.

And we're staying in the Pyramid Suite of the Luxor Hotel.

aka my favorite cause I'm an Egypt nut. I literally drug him all over that hotel and photographed everything when we were there in November. Check Facebook, you'll see the pictures.

So he's really sweet.

And a punk.

First cause he lied. And second cause the tickets were in a box underneath a bag of coal.

Yes, actual coal from a train.

But he wrapped the present himself - which never happens. And I knew it was big cause his sister was there and she told me to sit down before I opened it.

Best boyfriend ever.

See what happens when I don't give him a list? It really works out in my favor so I'm going with it.

Anyway, so that was my day. I hope you all had a rockin' Christmas Eve.

Tomorrow is Christmas morning with my parents, then lunch with his extended family, and then hopefully supper with my parents. More on that later.

On to the music.

Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck: Day Eleven

Carol of the Bells - The Piano Guys

2011 Day Eleven - Let all within us praise his holy name
2012 Day Eleven - To the Moon, Alice

"Did you just say your daughter was an Amish dude?" "Honor student, my daughter is an honor student."

Happy Christmas Eve Eve.

I'm alive.

Mostly.

Just took the weekend off and then felt like crap so I'm posting it all now.

Added two posts for yesterday and the day before though because otherwise it would be music overload.

I know that's cheating but it's my blog so get over it.

So, where was I?

Oh right, let's start with the TAB Holiday Party on Saturday.

Fantastic.

Ordered pizza, ate ice cream, drank apple juice - they had eggnog which just grosses me out - and played tons and tons of Apples to Apples. It was awesome.

Though the thing is that they like playing the regular version instead of the junior version so last year we made a rule that if they didn't know who the person was then they got to discard and pick another.

There were so many people this year it was ridiculous and it made me feel super old. Like camp all over again but this time no Noel to save me.

On this year's list was: Bill Murray, Madonna, and then Nicolas Cage came up and one of them was like, "oh isn't he that cute old guy?" first off, ew, and second, is 50 old?

It used to be but now it's not. Maybe that's cause I'm halfway there.

There were many others but I'm blanking on names, I literally went through 5 cards in a row discarding them all because even though I knew who they were they wouldn't which means I would lose every time cause no one would get my references.

But that's okay, they're young and fun and all that.

Anyway, so that was a lot of fun then after I went home to take a nap but ended up going over to help Mom unload all the party stuff at the hotel meanwhile getting a pounding headache.

So basically I helped her unload all her stuff and then the Cool Aunt showed up so I took ibuprofen and laid down to sleep it off in Mom's room.

Didn't work, ended up watching Indiana Jones part four - still sucks, btw they had 20 years to write it and that's what they came up with? aliens? seriously? - and not getting any sleep nor did the headache go away.

But then it was 6 and my boyfriend showed up so I took another dose and headed out to be social.

That dose seemed to work cause 10 minutes later I was all over the place greeting people and forgetting about the headache entirely.

Was awesome, all my siblings with their spouses and kids, plus his family was all there, the cool aunt and her sons who i've dubbed as the "cool cousins". They're not my only cool ones I have, they're just the only ones I see anymore and since the Cool Aunt borned them it seemed fitting.

Anyway, I passed on to the dancing baby on to the cool cousins. Have I told you about that freakin' thing yet? Yes, it's in here somewhere.

AHA! Found it. "Story behind the dancing baby is a bit of a mystery. It originated around 15 years ago and has been making the rounds ever sense. And its not like a nice cute doll. its ugly. and it dances. Well, it's two pieces so when you shake it its upper body flails and it looks like its dancing. and it's still in the package. If you get it you're stuck with it for a year before you wrap it up and give it to someone else."

So last year I got stuck with it and now I'm giving it back. It can adorn their shelves for a year before someone else gets it. I was just proud I didn't lose it. Which for me - meant keeping it somewhere I would always see it, aka above my TV - everyone who saw it went "what the crap?" and then I had to rehash the story for them over and over.

Where was I? Oh right, so my family, his family, cool aunt and cool cousins, one of the favorite aunties plus one of her kids and wife and their kids, plus a bunch of my cool coworkers, and of course the Library Goddess.

Many pictures were taken, including one with boss #1 and boss #2. I let them fight over who fits what title, it's an ongoing battle.

So it was madness, but the good kind of madness that was sort of contained.

Mostly.

Minus the tiny children running all over the place.

I felt bad for the chick on duty at the desk, but to be fair we did bring her lots and lots of food to make up for it.

There was a ton of food there. Mom made chili, mints and my favorite punch, Oldest Sister brought meat and cheese tray plus everything that everyone else forgot, Favorite Sister-In-Law brought chips plus this awesome cheese dip, and then Second Sister brought the vodka slush which won over the crowd.

I raved to my coworkers about it so I made them try it.

Unfortunately my master plan to get the Queen of the Known Universe inebriated failed. But that was just attempt number one, it'll happen.

The question of the night became "you got the degree, now what?"

And honestly the truth is I don't know.

I'm comfortable where I am, but I've been told on numerous occasions that I shouldn't stay there too long or I'll be stuck there forever.

Which to me would be fine. I don't know, we'll see if any positions open up in the near future. If not I'm content. For now.

To be honest I'm waiting for them to make the final decision on the boyfriend's hours before I make any major decisions. If he gets switched to second maybe moving somewhere and working 11-8 would be better. For now 9-6 is good for us so I'm sticking with it.

So that was all Saturday.

Sunday was church, the dinner with Mom, Dad, the boyfriend and Oldest Sister's family. We went to this Greek place for the second Sunday in a row - which is fine by me it's good food and there's no wait, plus they have a breakfast menu, not that I order off of it, but it's there.

After that the boyfriend and I watched Shawshank Redemption, waited in line at Best Buy for obscene amounts of time but I got my headphones, and then we saw American Hustle.

It was good, not my favorite, but alright. Scale of Awesome says 6/10.

I know, I'm harsh.

I love that Jennifer Lawrence got the "and" in the credits over all these seasoned actors. That's just how badass she is, take that!

No it was a good cast and the script was alright, their hairdos were seriously messing with my mind, Jeremy Renner's mostly followed very closely by Christian Bale's. But I guess that was the style.

So that was Saturday and Sunday. Today is Monday, I felt like crap so I spent most of it sleeping on the couch and when I wasn't sleeping on the couch I was sleeping on the bed.

We'll see how much sleep I get tonight.

On to the music Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck: Day Ten

I'm throwing this in first cause the boyfriend and I enjoy it immensely.

It seems every episode SNL gets at least one sketch right, this was this Saturday's.

Shakira, Pitbull and Alanis are all dead on, but I loved Snape cause it was so random.

Alright, Day Ten songs are:

Welcome Christmas - Girls Generation

okay i'm a chicago nut but i was like, wait what? ohhh..."all that christmas". well they had the dance down. i enjoyed that in the subtitles it was all foreign and then there would be like 2 words in english in the middle of it all.

Do you want an arm or a torso?

One of the coolest things I have ever seen on TV ever.

Please tell me you get that Caddyshack reference.

That pretty much sums up my day, slow start, but madness at the end.

And it snowed!

What the crap?

Did I miss that part of the forecast? I wasn't the only one though cause we were all confused when it started.

It was supposed to be nice.

Well, nice for December.

But that's Nebraska. Here you'll turn on both the AC and the Heat in a 1 hour period. I don't know how meteorologists work where you're from, but I'm pretty sure ours just guess cause there's no way to predict it.

Originally it was supposed to snow tomorrow. I already got snowed out of one graduation so it better not do it again.

Anyway, so it was slow in the morning, but then in the afternoon everyone got all wound up about the Target hack thing so we were all freaking out about that.

Thankfully after work was much more fun, graduation dinner with the boyfriend's family.

His wickedly awesome sister-in-law.

I'm not the only one celebrating this weekend.

Dinner was fun and afterward there was a giant pig cake, hence the title of this post.

So all-in-all a good day.

On to the music, Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck: Day Seven

Jingle Bells - Charlie Parra

Wicked. For some reason I like the instrumental versions better. Guess I'm just not a fan of the lyrics.

2012 was Sungha Jung, 2011 was Glee

Walking in a Winter Wonderland - Andrews Sisters

Classic, love the harmonies.

2012 was Jason Mraz, 2011 was Dean Martin

Please Come Home For Christmas - Bon Jovi

oh my god he looks so young!

2012 was CeeLo Green

2011 Day Seven - Dashing through the melted snow in some untied tennis shoes
2012 Day Seven - If not for Christmas, by New Year's night

out. have a good weekend.

Thursday, December 19, 2013

Dr. Seuss is my favorite rapper.

So I woke up to like 16 missed messages and I freaked out cause I assumed they were from the boyfriend saying he was gonna be switched to second, but no, they were all from the women in my family about food for the graduation party on Saturday.

Meat and cheese trays, chili, chips and salsa, salads, cake, mints, punch, and a whole lot of liquor make up the menu. It should be fun.

Interesting day at the library.

Had a lot of fun with the Queen of the Known Universe. I'm pretty sure we scared off an aide after she called me a bitch and I laughed.

He's new.

And there's more to that story but I can't tell you.

It was a joke, by the way.

I mean, I hope I'm not actually a bitch, though I was giving her crap so I deserved it.

Preceding that was a staff meeting - we're rearranging. The back room is done so now it's on to second floor, next will be the front desk - and following that was holiday party shopping for TAB.

Ordered my pizza to be picked up Saturday morning, got my ice cream, fruit, juice, and eggnog.

Which is gross, btw, but they like it.

I don't get it.

But the party was a lot of fun last year with pizza, ice cream and board games so we're doing it again. This time minus the secret santa/white elephant thing.

Should be fun.

So I was all over the place all day and I'm glad to be sitting now.

Though a night off meant I had to do everything I avoided all week once I got home.

Paperwork, paperwork, and more paperwork.

And mailing camp stuff.

Blah.

But that's okay, it's done now.

I can celebrate. And I'll do that by watching the Sing Off.

It is a 2 week event so it's on constantly. I'm loving Home Free, the rest are pretty good too, but they're the clear front-runner.

I'm getting really excited with all these Olympic commercials on.

I love the Olympics, I'm a total nerd. I watch them all.

Though the skiing and shooting thing, where they ski with guns on their back kind of freaks me out.

I don't remember what that one is called, but is that seriously a sport? It's madness.

Mom is into the figure skating so we always used to watch that. So is Grams.

I love all the snowboarding stuff and the big jumps.

Way cool.

Alright, that's all the rambling I've got for the night.

Think I'm gonna konk out early. Exhausted after today.

On to the music, Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck: Day Six

Songs for tonight include:

Sleigh Ride - Jewel

actually watching her right now on the Sing Off and diggin' it.

oh god that 2011 post was about the evolution of the apartment story, has it seriously been that long since i started that monster of a story.

now that i have more time i should get back to that.

legit pre-midnight post, holy crap tag in use.

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Merry Christmas you filthy animal.

The boyfriend's birthday today so I could finally give him his present.

Which means I can finally tell you what it was.

He once said if he could ever have season tickets to anything it would be Stars Hockey so I got him season tickets for the rest of the season.

Now there is a game on Valentine's Day so I need to remember that that is entirely my fault.

He seemed excited so I'm calling it a victory.

Along with the fact that he never figured out what it was after months of guessing.

Victory.

That's basically all I remember from today.

Gave him that, we went to dinner then watched Home Alone.

We're doing it backwards cause last week we watched the second one.

Marathons.

Nothing major from work, except it went by super fast.

Tomorrow is staff meeting and food day so I should konk out soon.

And yes, I did watch the Voice finale and it's killing me not posting about it but I figured I'm already hitting you with enough music so I'll ramble about it after all the Xmas music.

I do have to point out that my pick won it all.

Which makes me 2/4 since I picked Cassadee Pope 2 seasons ago.

And I've only watched 4 seasons of it.

I'm just glad the one with the best voice finally won it.

I mean Judith Hill seriously should have won last season. A lot of people said Amanda Brown was the best the season before that but I liked Cassadee better.

Cause I was a fan of Hey Monday before they got popular.

I don't remember much about season two except I was for Jordis and she got hosed.

Oh, Juliet, she should have won but she got second.

Started Blake's three-peat but now Adam is back on top.

Anyway, enough with my ramblings. I'll post those clips after Xmas.

On to the music.

Want a plane that loops the loop.

It's official. My boyfriend is an old man.

That's right, he turned 26 tonight at midnight.

Means I'm next.

2 months and a day.

Ugh, man. A lot to accomplish before that point.

Signing up for the rec center being one of them.

Planning on following through on resolutions this year so I went to sign up and apparently I use too much sanitizer cause my prints wouldn't work.

Geez, I attempt to make an effort and this is what I get.

Guess it's just not meant to be.

Could use that as an excuse to continue to be lazy, but really playing iPad air games for 2 hours every night really isn't healthy.

That's all I got for today. I'm zonked. Worked all day. Date night with the boyfriend after.

We watched Elysium.

It was messed up man. Scale of Awesome says 6/10.

Now all I can think of when I see Jodie Foster is her 20 minute speech about privacy at the Oscars.

But it was Lifetime Achievement so really she could say anything she wanted.

"cause i have a microphone and you don't, so you will listen to every **** word I have to say!"

Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck Day Four

Deck The Halls - Mike Tompkins and friends

Monday, December 16, 2013

Darth Vader follows me on Twitter. Take that world.

Okay, fair warning this post is going to be music-filled cause Voice finals were tonight along with The Sing Off which I put off watching though I don't know why cause after tonight holy crap.

Seriously, watch this and tell me you aren't a fan.

Yep, going back to watch the rest of the season.

Oh look, Pentatonix.

That explains why they're everywhere.

Anyway, before all this there wasn't a lot of music, minus when I was off desk cause I do listen to my headphones when I'm off desk.

Do some dancing and all that in the elevators.

Though you really have to watch out for which elevator you're in cause we have two and one has a bigass window and that would just be bad.

The other one is super slow and claustrophobic so to pass the time it works.

Where was I?

Oh right, work.

Work was super slow today - think it was the weather, everyone was outside instead.

It was a sweltering 40-some degrees today.

You scoffed at that, but 40-something is sweltering for December in Nebraska.

There's people outside in shorts.

It's madness.

And it's supposed to continue to swelter this week and hit 49 at some point. I'm hoping the trend is slowness doesn't continue as well.

But, I do actually get a lot done when it's slow so it wasn't all that bad.

We're working on getting plastic bags for the checkout which is super boring to you, I'm aware, but big for us, well me since I'm supplies and have to write a proposal for it and all that.

Thankfully I have Superwoman around to make it all shiny and stuff.

Speaking of shiny stuff, I got my final GPA. I finished with a 3.978 which out of 4.0 isn't all that bad.

Would have been a 4.0 if not for that lone A-

Mean.

*cough*Library Goddess*cough*

What else from today that's not music-related?

Oh, so I posted on Twitter something I found online that goes a little something like this:

Jingle bells,
Twilight smells,
Edward ran away.
Bella dies,
Jacob cries,
Star Wars all the way.

Half an hour later I get a notification that Darth Vader now follows me on Twitter.

So take that world.

It's sad, but I'm proud of that.

Brother will be super jealous, though not jealous enough to actually join Twitter. Or any social network at all for that matter.

He's a lot like my dad, they're both luddites.

Dad's only experience with technology are his smart tractors and his reality-filled DVR.

Or "reality" that is.

Duck Dynasty. Swamp People. American Pickers. Big Shrimpin'. Ax Men. Pawn Stars.

There's more should I go on?

Anyway, I'm pumped. Now I will have to find more Star Wars humor and post it to keep him on my side.

Okay, now on to the music.

So yes, tonight was the Voice finals. Tessanne rocked it. She's still my number one and I think she deserves to win, but I'm secretly cheering for Will cause he's the complete underdog.

He lost in the battles then got stolen by Xtina. He lost in the knockouts then got stolen back by Adam. He beat out James, Cole and Matthew which is madness and he did it all in style.

I know, I know, you don't care, but you should watch this cause it's excellent.

Tiny Dancer

I cheered when I heard "take on an Elton John classic" then attempted to guess what it would be. Not even close.

Love those guys.

Anyway, for the - well, second to - last time here's my Top 20:

Top 20

Red - Adam
Pink - Xtina
Green - Blake
Grey - CeeLo

Tessanne Chin
Matthew Schuler - Eliminated in lives
Holly Henry - Eliminated in knockouts
Kat Robichaud - Eliminated in lives
Grey - Eliminated in live rounds

Brandon Chase - Eliminated in knockouts
Michael Lynch - Eliminated in battles
Timyra Joi - Eliminated in battles
Briana Cuoco - Eliminated in battles
Jacquie Lee

Tamara Chauniece - Eliminate in lives
Ashley Dubose - Eliminated in battles
Monika Leigh - Eliminated in battles
Shelbie Z - Eliminated in lives
James Wolpert - Eliminated in lives

Josh Logan - Eliminated in live
Caroline Pennel - Eliminated in lives
Johnny Gray - Eliminated in lives
Olivia Henken - Eliminated in lives
Ray Boudreaux - Eliminated in lives

So go Tessanne, Jacquie and Will. Whoever wins you deserve it cause this year's was crazy competitive.

Alright, on to the actual music.

Day Three of Christmas Music That Doesn't Suck

Tonight's song choices are:

Christmas Wrapping - Save Ferris

oh my god, was not expecting the twist on the lyrics, love it.

2011 was The Waitresses, 2012 was The Donnas

Santa Claus is Coming to Town - Cimorelli

no, i don't expect you to know who they are, but you should check them out. they've done a ton of covers, my favorite of which is probably Call Me Maybe that they turn into an 80's workout video.

2011 was Glee, 2012 was Michael Buble

Let It Snow - Christina Perri

love her, she's great, but you know that already since i've posted like 8 things by her already on here.

2011 was Michael Buble, 2012 was Frank Sinatra

this was a close second for that last one:

shutup wesley!

2011 Day Three - You Better Not Pout, I'm Telling You Why
2012 Day Three - You Mean You Forgot Cranberries Too?

and speaking of 80's workout videos, check this out if you haven't already:

Library. Desk. Potatoes.

"I have to work to keep this figure." "You don't work very hard."

Sketch just called my new hair style "tame" and "classy". If you've seen my current hair style you may not characterize it as those things, but that just means you haven't seen my previous hair colors.

She labeled my old hair colors as "screw you society". I guess this is a bit more reserved than previously.

It's also way short, but I'm getting used to it.

So, as most of you know by now we didn't end up going to the graduation service as planned due to mad weather in Missouri.

However, it didn't stop us from celebrating here.

And it was kind of nice to have a lazy weekend to fall back on.

I got off of work at 3 on Friday so I came home and took a nap - it was glorious - did some laundry then the boyfriend came up and we watched White House Down.

Scale of Awesome 8/10. I liked it. I've actually wanted to see it for a while. I didn't realize Maggie Gyllenhaal was in it. She was great.

So that was Friday, Saturday the boyfriend took me out for lunch.

Well, brunch.

No, it was lunch.

But it was breakfast at lunch.

What constitutes brunch exactly?

Anyway, breakfast/lunch and then we went shopping.

Well, we wandered the aisles of Menards for a while looking for presents for him.

I am now officially done with all my Christmas shopping.

Minus my cat, that is.

Still have to get him toys to go in his stocking.

Though I won't put them in until last minute cause otherwise he'll try to knock it down like last year.

Cat nip.

After that we met up with my family - Cool Aunt and son included - for dinner.

What is ironic is that originally I was supposed to be spending the weekend with my parents, boyfriend, and Second Sister's family in Missouri.

What really happened is that I had supper with my brother's family yesterday then my Oldest Sister's family today, completely missing Second Sister's family all together.

Weirdness.

After dinner we went to his place, watched the VH1 countdown and some of Larry The Cable Guy's Christmas special - welcome to Nebraska - before I headed back.

Today was Bubby's Christmas program so went to that this morning, dinner with Oldest Sister's family as mentioned and then - because I had nothing else to do, huzzah for lazy weekends - I came back to my apartment watched more of Arrow season one - made it to disc 3 and loving it - and took a nap.

Oh and played Angry Birds on my new iPad Air. Graduation present from Mom to replace the one I had as a GA after I had to give it back when my job was done.

I now have far too much time on my hands, I think I played that and Hearts for like 2 hours.

See what I'm turning into?

It's okay, work tomorrow will fix that. Gotta get ready for Christmas - sorry, can't say Christmas - Holiday Party for my teens. The joys of working for the City.

Anyway, the Holiday Party is this upcoming weekend right before my graduation party so I'll be all celebrated out by midnight.

Quotes of the Weekend:

Brother: "That's an ugly seven."

Boyfriend: "I have to work to keep this figure."
Nephew: "You don't work very hard."

President: “We got some knives in the kitchen.”
Kale: “WHAT?”
President: “They're big knives.”
Kale: “Great, you can make me a sandwich.”

To be truthful I'm kind of glad I didn't go to the ceremony. It would have sucked to drive that far in that weather, plus you have to wait in line to be announced and since it was an online school I didn't know anyone anyway.

This way they'll mail me my diploma and I'll celebrate my way with my friends and family next weekend.

Should be fun.

Alright, on to Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck: Day Two

Today's songs are:

Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer - Jesse Hite

2011 it was Elmo and Patsy, 2012 it was them 30 years later

even though the world seems to hate this song i'm posting it anyway cause i like it. and this kid is actually pretty good. he did this 365 days of music where he covers something new every day, it's pretty cool.

oh my god he covers what does the fox say? weirdness. Everybody Talks and Pretty Woman are probably my favorite of his covers.

Little Drummer Boy - Pentatonix

2011 it was Sean Kingston, 2012 it was Kevin McHale

i posted one by these guys last year so i can officially say i was a fan before they got big. they're all over the place now. yes they seem like big nerds but it works for them.

Santa Baby - Megan Nicole

2011 it was PCD, 2012 it was Eartha Kitt

elf selfie anyone? i enjoy that he proposes and she walks away. crazy cool voice for a kid.

you may know her from some of her covers: Lazy Song, Never Getting Back Together, and Payphone, all have view counts in the millions. my favorite is probably Just Give Me a Reason.

2011 Day Two - "That's just Joe's Finger and Pandemonium"
2012 Day Two - So hurry down the chimney tonight.

legit pre-midnight post, holy crap tag in use.

Thursday, December 12, 2013

So this is Christmas

Total Stats after 8 hours of work = 4

Reason = I was on desk for a whole 2 hours the entire day.

The rest of my day was spent in the back room rearranging.

That's right, our entire back room at work is totally different.

And it only took us like...5-6 hours.

Well, I guess it's still not done, but it's mostly done.

We just need to move the phone to the other jack, and then move the safe to the other side. And then they have to hang shelves for supplies.

But the lockers are moved - that was a 3 man effort, literally we had to call in another man to help out cause they're massive and come in groups of three. Slim Shady and I were almost flattened by them once, but luckily Fearless Leader and my Work Big Brother were around to save us.

Anyway, lockers were moved, tables were replaced, computers were relocated on the new tables, desk was moved, stuff was cleaned...that hadn't been cleaned in years.

Nasty.

But it was worth it. And now there's much more space for carts and all that.

We'll see how long it stays clean.

So that was big, then after work I hit up Barnes and Noble to listen to Bubby sing and play recorder with his classmates. Then a portion of the proceeds from sales that day went to their school. Pretty neat, and a good excuse to do some more Christmas shopping.

Now I'm almost done, just Oldest Sister left. Still have plenty of time before our Christmas on the first.

And speaking of Christmas the 14th - aka my graduation - is supposed to be the first day of my Christmas Music That Doesn't Suck 12 days of music thing. Since I will not be around to post that day, or tomorrow for that matter, I'm starting it tonight.

Same songs, different artists.

So. Christmas Music That Doesn't Suck: Day One

Pat-a-Pan - SPASH Wind Ensemble

last year it was David Archuleta, before that it was Mannheim.

not bad for high schoolers.

Auld Lang Syne - Martin Tallstrom

last year it was Lea Michele, before that it was a banjo cover.

this guy is great on guitar. check out his cover of Foggy Mountain Breakdown here - it's madness.

Happy Christmas (War is Over) - Charice

last year was Christina Perri, before that it was Maroon 5.

this chick is crazy talented. you should youtube her other stuff, she's fantastic. and yes she was on glee at one point.

Here's Day One from 2011, and 2012.

Alright, have a good weekend. I'll attempt to not trip in front of hundreds of people.

Wish me luck.

Legit pre-midnight post, holy crap tag in use.

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

But I fumbled it when it came down to the wire.

So it's official. I can graduate. I passed all my classes. Even got an A in practicum.

That was really the only one I was worried about. Feel like I learned more in that class than any previous class which makes sense cause it's hands on experience.

At first I was flustered because I had to work somewhere else, but after I got started I really enjoyed it.

Anyway, so that makes this weekend official. Got my cap and gown, booked the rooms, ready for the ceremony and pre-ceremony thing.

There's a lot of ceremonies.

There's even an online one which I'm supposed to RSVP for.

Woops, do that tomorrow.

The problem though is that I'm really not a girly girl so I don't know what to wear to these things.

What's the dress code for a Master's graduation?

I don't know what it was about today but I was just in a funk.

Which is weird, cause I learned I passed this morning, but it didn't seem to change anything.

Probably because even though I attempted to go to bed early last night I didn't sleep very well. So I was all zombie-mode this morning. And basically the rest of the work day. And then I had a TAB meeting this afternoon which normally are fine, but today was just bad.

It was bad and I'm glad it's over. That's all I'm gonna say about that.

So, I was glad that after work things picked up. Met with my parents, went out for supper, then hung out with the boyfriend. We watched Home Alone 2 - the second half, we watched the first half earlier this week - and then Sister Act 2.

Both of which are excellent sequels and have excellent soundtracks.

I'm hoping tomorrow is like the latter half of today and not the former.

The Wire - HAIM

aww, poor guys. good video, catchy song, i dig it.

Tuesday, December 10, 2013

Turtledove - Is it a turtle that can fly or a bird that has a shell?

No.

I don't have the flu.

This headache, exhaustion, and feel of utter despair are only allowed to be temporary.

I have graduation this weekend, I'm not allowed to be sick.

It's all mental, right?

Either way it's 10:30 and I'm going to bed.

It's not that I don't love you all, and want to amuse you with my ramblings, but I literally feel like crap and it's hazing my memory from today.

I remember....work.

I was there.

And then I wasn't.

And then I was on the phone with Sketch for a while.

And then I wasn't.

Then I watched The Voice.

My top pick made it to the final, huzzah Tessanne. First time since season three when my top pick won it all - go Cassadee. She made a guest appearance tonight and rocked it.

That's all I remember, aside from cheering that Will joined her. And Jacquie, Jacquie's good too. But I was stoked for Will, but sad for James.

That's all I remember.

No, there was drunken dancing Marcia Gay-Harden.

Which means I watched Trophy Wife after the Voice.

I don't remember. It's all a blur. I fell asleep. But then I was awake. I don't know, I took cough medicine. Now I'm going to bed. Will see how I'm feeling tomorrow.

Song of the Day:

what's a partridge?

maybe another one for my "12 days of xmas music that doesn't suck" list.

hm.

out.

Monday, December 9, 2013

Hit me with your pet shark, fire away.

Yay for a day off.

Slept in, it was marvelous.

But was productive too, did a bunch of laundry, went grocery shopping and did some xmas shopping as well.

Plus my stockings are now hung and all that.

Carter spent the day staring at Yoda.

Either he is thinking: what the crap is with the tiny green man hanging from the bookshelf - or - he remembers what Yoda held last year and he's waiting for me to look away so he can pull it down and search for toys.

He's spoiled.

Just a little.

Anyway, after the cleaning and shopping I headed out to see the boyfriend. We went to see 12 Years a Slave.

Scale of Awesome says 6/10. It was good, nothing I'd want to see again, but pretty good. I was interested in the story - horrified at moments - but there were other moments when it dragged on - it would stay on a character after a big scene and they would be just standing there for like 2 minutes extra for dramatic effect.

Anyway, after that we watched a couple of episodes of Best Funeral Ever.

Yes, that's a real show and it's ridiculous.

The ones we saw where a Hollywood themed one where they took the casket to the movie theater and a game show themed one where they spun the casket on top of a giant wheel.

On to the clips, going with them instead of music tonight, though technically they are made up of music so they count.

Misheard lyrics:

and then the 90's version.

ain't nothin' but a meat steak.

love it.

alright, i'm out. have a good one.

Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start.

"There you are."
"Just where you left me since I couldn't join in any reindeer games."

I'd let Tara Cole join in my reindeer games, she's a badass.

Yes, Leverage.

Season two.

If you still haven't checked it out DO IT!

You're missing out on life.

Yes, I skipped yesterday.

Don't worry, I'll still make my 300 posts by the end of the year.

I think.

Yeah, I'll make it.

Maybe even hit 1000 total.

Madness.

But I guess it has been 3 years.

So, weekend.

Yesterday:

"Your bun is hanging out."

I'll take "Phrases that are only appropriate in a sandwich shop" for 100, Alex.

I was lazy food-wise, went out for lunch and then ordered pizza and breadsticks for supper.

Spinach and feta cheese breadsticks to be exact.

That's right. Be jealous.

Don't really remember much else. I worked. I came home. Was exhausted. Ordered pizza. Oh, I watched some of the new Whose Line is it Anyway on the CW.

Not bad.

Not as good as the Drew Carey version, but not bad.

I really like the addition of a new sketch called Sideways Scene, it's fantastic. Let me see if I can find a clip.

Or, a group of clips, that works too.

I love the Twilight reaction from the crowd and his martial arts jump movie over Wayne. Awesome.

So that was Saturday.

Today:

It snowed. All day.

But it was lazy snow, like super slow falling in big huge chunks.

Which somehow looked lazy so I'm calling it lazy.

Thankfully it was not the packy kind of snow so I was able to unbury my car by myself.

I'm sure my brother-in-law cheered when he didn't get my panic call asking him to come over and help me out of the parking lot.

Every time it snows Superwoman gives me crap cause they don't really plow my lot, they just push it up against the back of our cars so I get stuck and then I'm late so I call my brother-in-law to help me out.

This morning I was early.

Though it didn't really matter, we were the only ones in the building for the majority of the day, aside from the people on the computer.

A coworker and I made predictions for stats. I said I'd probably have 12, but I think I finished in the high twenties so it wasn't too bad.

And I made more progress on my booklist, which is good cause it's due in February.

Then came home, played some video games and watched some more Leverage.

And when I say video games I mean a classic.

Contra.

Dominated.

With the 30 lives cheat code that is. I used to be much better, gonna have to practice so I can get back to the not cheating version.

Tomorrow I'm off - huzzah - no big plans, but I should probably do some Christmas shopping at some point.

Maybe hang up my stocking and some Christmas lights.

I love Christmas lights, but there are some people that take it to the extreme.

And by extreme I mean inflatable stuff and lights galore.

I'm more of a simple girl, decoration-wise.

But I do have lights and places to hang them so that will be my task tomorrow.

Plus play more Contra.

Sounds like a plan.

See, this is what happens when I'm done with homework forever.

I find new distractions.

Alright, Carter and I are out. Gonna watch some more Leverage and konk out.

Music:

Tall Tall Trees - Alan Jackson

another song you know but forgot you knew it.

i should work on my 12 days of xmas music tomorrow too.

hmmm...

Sorry your dodgeball coach got killed by two tons of irony

Chair #1 = Dentist 10:00 AM

I treat this as pass/fail cause either you have cavities or you don't.

Today I passed.

Score.

Remember when I never had cavities ever so this was never a question?

And then I go in and have like 4?

Yes, that sucked.

Thankfully this morning was the opposite. Though apparently I need to floss more.

Woops.

Chair #2 = Hair Dresser 1:00 PM

Hair is now red and blonde.

And chopped short.

Ish.

Rebellious nature intact until graduation.

Dark enough that my boyfriend didn't say anything, but red enough that my Mom did.

But of course she's used to it by now.

Her theory is that she's thankful because it's temporary not like tattoos or piercings.

Not that that will ever be a problem cause as anyone who knows me at all can tell you, I hate needles.

After the hair thing stopped by the farm and watched some NCIS: LA. Forgot how much I like that show, should get caught up.

Then supper with the boyfriend and his parents.

They went shopping and we watched Falling Down.

Yes, that's the actual title. Circa 1993.

Scale of Awesome is 4/10, I fell asleep. Has anyone else heard of this movie? Was it big way back when?

And when I say "way back when" I mean 20 years ago.

God he looks young.

Anyway, we followed that up with Dodgeball.

Scale of Awesome 9/10, I love this one, but I've also seen it like a thousand times.

It amuses me that they're married and playing enemies, in the bloopers he messes up all the time when she's around, it's hysterical.

Music:

Pour Me - Trick Pony

used to be my favorite song, haven't heard it in forever so i'm bringing it back.

out.

Thursday, December 5, 2013

Why aren't you seizing the boy?

You know you're a nerd when you cheer cause it's Thursday.

You know, Thursday?

The day when the place across the street has their specials?

Yes I go there every day and yes they know me by name.

Today was hamburgers.

I ate mine on the way to a TAM meeting.

TAM = Thursday Afternoon Meeting

Redundant since we call it a TAM Meeting, but a meeting nonetheless.

With all the Youth Services staff.

We picked our favorites for upcoming Caldecott.

Yep. Libraries full of nerds, get used to it.

That was the highlight of today.

Tomorrow I get to spend my day in chairs.

Dentist and Hair Dresser.

You can track my life by the color of my hair, I've lost count of how many colors I've gone through.

There was red, blonde, purple, orange, blue streaks, black and brown. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.

It was amusing because right after I started dating the boyfriend - this time - I told him I was going to get my hair dyed and he goes, "not red, right?"

As in fire engine red which I had for both high school and college.

Can you tell we've dated before?

No, not red.

Nor will it be tomorrow. Though it would be awesome. Superwoman said she'd give me points for that, but I'm guessing now with the Master's it would be frowned upon.

I'm supposed to be all professional and all that.

Tie my shoes.

Match my socks.

Now I do neither, guess that'll have to change next week when I get the diploma.

Or maybe I'll be a rebel and continue to do neither.

Sounds like a plan.

Music:

Yes I'm back on Leverage.

Season Two.

You're missing out on life if you've skipped this show, for serious.

Go to your library. Check out season one. Watch it. Then tell me I'm wrong.

I'm gonna crash. I hate dentists, need actual sleep so I don't freak out in the chair.

I have a history.

Luckily, I have Sketch and Edit to reenact those things for me.

Sketch and Edit Sit in a Waiting Room

And just cause I can.

On repeat.

Just one of those things that gets sweeter with time.

For once I was nothing but productive on a day off.

Usually when I clean my apartment it's because I'm avoiding homework.

Now I have no homework to avoid so I had to force myself into it.

But I was up.

Since 8AM.

On a day off.

I know.

Sucked.

But I guess it was worth it.

Met up with my sisters for lunch, shopped a bit in the afternoon, then cleaned the rest of the day.

Literally, the rest of the day.

Mopped, dusted, vacuumed, scrubbed, all that.

I think I've mopped like 3 times since I've moved in.

Don't give me that look, it's not like there's a lot to mop.

And I keep it clean.

But today was extreme, even changed out my shower curtain.

Think I'm good for a while.

Tomorrow it's back to work so I should crash.

Exhausted.

I know, I'm boring. I'm sorry. But it was a very big day for me.

Here, have some more Useless Information.

-The original pack of Skittles doesn't contain the color blue so you CAN'T taste the rainbow.

-The letters on M&M candies stand for Mars and Murrie, the developers of the candy in 1941.

-The designer of the Statue of Liberty - Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi - used his wife as the model for the body and his mother as the model for the face.

-The 57 on Heinz ketchup bottles stands for the varieties of pickle the company once made.

-A group of whales is called a Pod.

-Kermit the Frog is left-handed.

-The word "nerd" was first coined by Dr. Seuss in "If I Ran the Zoo"

Gonna look into that one tomorrow at work.

On to the music. Song you know but forgot you knew it.

Dust on the Bottle - David Lee Murphy

classic country.

Watching Leverage's Nebraska episode. Nice attempt at our accent. It's amusing. Sophie hates chicken fried steak. Parker wears a Nebraska hat and eats corndogs. Hardison gets mobbed.

"Ladies, for the last time I am not the tailback for the Cornhuskers. I don't even know what a Cornhusker is."

"I can't hack a hick."

Even if he were a High Tech Redneck?

How many library science students does it take to swallow some fruit?

I don't know what it was about today but work felt eternal.

Think it might have had something to do with the fact that my normal Tuesday has been 9-1 and then the internship. Today was my first 9-6 since August.

BUT I made a lot of progress with my booklist, which is good cause I need it to be done and polished by February for the booktalk.

So nervous, I hate public speaking.

Maybe I can talk Sensei or my sister into going and sitting in the back and making faces at me. That might help.

After work was Library Goddess's party for graduates. First time the Boyfriend met the Library Goddess and it actually went okay.

No, he fit right in with our quirky gang.

And when I say quirky I mean it, we went around the table discussing what we collect. On the list was DVD's, motorcars, dolls, scarves, records, and skulls.

Yeah skulls.

Actual skulls.

But who said what is Vegas so you'll just have to guess.

The fruit thing was the drinks - there was punch with fruit in it and it kept getting stuck in the bottom of the glasses so it became an adventure attempting to swallow said fruit.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one going over there for graduation. It's quite the drive, but I earned the damn diploma so I should walk the stage to get it.

Anyway, it was great to get together with the gang again. Looking forward to the ceremony and the pre-ceremony next weekend.

The countdown continues.

On to the music.

Song of the day:

Secrets - Will Champlin

from a few weeks ago, but awesome nonetheless.

Voice Eliminations were tonight. Lost Matthew. Down to just 3. Which, out of 5, isn't all that bad.

Top 20

Red - Adam
Pink - Xtina
Green - Blake
Grey - CeeLo

Tessanne Chin
Matthew Schuler - Eliminated in lives
Holly Henry - Eliminated in knockouts
Kat Robichaud - Eliminated in lives

Shelbie Z - Eliminated in lives

Team Adam:

CeeLo is out.

The ironic part is that now I'm actually rooting mostly for Will and he's not even in my top 20. But Tessanne is still my number one. And I also really love James - Jacquie has been a huge surprise - was not expecting her to be that epic. Crazy talented.

that's all i got. off tomorrow - huzzah - gonna clean the apartment. i know, now that there's no homework to distract me i have no excuses. ugh.

Done.

Yes, I'm posting this again. It's tradition. And probably the most-posted video on this blog.

Celebratory paper throw.

I can now officially do it.

Holy crap, I'm done with grad school.

Well, the homework portion at least.

Hence the celebratory paper throw.

All that's left are the grades - which is on their end - and then the graduation ceremony itself. Got my cap and gown hung up and all that.

And of course the party. I'm almost done sending out invitations. I still need to mail a few and stop by the home branch to drop off theirs. But other than that I'm good.

I just can't believe it's over.

Grad school is only mentioned in 256 out of 971 - wait, seriously, 971? - posts but it was a huge part of my life for like 3 years. Now I'm done with homework and stress about classes...feels good.

Today was good too. Extremely busy. Because of the holiday last week we were closed for two days and it all caught up with us today. Like 80 tubs in delivery, 2 full carts of holds, plus tons of stats. Made the day go by fairly quickly.

Plus Mr. BossMan Tom stopped by. It'll be weird not leaving tomorrow to go to the internship. While I'm glad to be done with that I'll definitely miss it.

And that's all I got for today. Came home, watched The Voice, The Blacklist, and then wrote up the paper.

The Blacklist was epic - fall finale, can't wait until January for new episodes. I wasn't as impressed with The Voice. Except for Jacquie, she was awesome.

Stick it in your pointy ear.

Okay first up, watch this:

If you haven't already.

Craziness.

Today was good. Slept in, went to church then out to eat with Oldest Sister and family. Watched Bubby play some basketball, did a ton of Xmas shopping - almost done, not really - then headed out to see the boyfriend for dinner and a movie.

Star Wars 6. Classic.

The boyfriend thinks it's weird I get my groceries at Target. But it's one-stop shopping! Where do you get yours? Don't say. HyVee. I have yet to run into any helpful smiles in those aisle. Or at least the one in my neighborhood. And I can never find anything. In Target I know exactly where everything is.

Actually proud of myself for being productive with the shopping. Finished with Mom, Squirt, and most of Second Sister and brother's families. Others I have no clue where to start. But I'll keep looking.

In honor of Star Wars tonight's music selections are some of my favorite parodies.

Yes 2 of which are Weird Al, but who does parodies better than Weird Al?

The Saga Begins

awesome.

Yoda

amusing.

Call Me Maybe

EPIC.

Obi-Wan's "maybe" gets me every time.

I guess technically a parody but I'm going with it.
