I could write a blog. I have thoughts.

Fireworks, Ted, Summer Songs and a Binary Solo

I'm free!!

Until August!!

From school that is, now it's Camp J in high gear. Meeting this weekend with an impromptu golfing session after, but that's really more for our sanity and practice for the big tournament in August.

It was a good day at least. Left early this morning cause I took the Library Goddess with me. I didn't get pulled over and I only ran over one curb with her in the car so I'm calling it a victory.

Class was good, talked about literacy strategies and then presented our digital book projects. I'm just glad it's done, included everything from the syllabus but we shall see.

After that it was the pizza party. Basically a get together meal for all the library students. I met a lot of people, and it's amusing because I get introduced as the Cool Aunt's niece and they all know her so it's like an immediate, "oh yeah!" kind of thing. Highly entertaining.

Added something to the Cool Aunt's haiku, then took off and headed out to see the boyfriend and buy some fireworks.

Hit up my dorm mom's stand, called her enroute of course and she answers, "yes we're open where are you?" The woman knows me all too well. And she gives me free stuff...cause I buy stuff....lots of stuff.

To be fair I did warn him in advance that he was about to see his girlfriend spend an obscene amount of money on something that will literally blow up in her face.

But he'll probably be lighting off half of it anyway.

All I have left to buy is tanks. And I can get those from the Strang stand the day before. They have one in the Dollar General parking lot that I always hit up to support their baseball team. I used to play softball there so gotta show some support. In Strang, not the Dollar General parking lot. Just to clear that up.

After fireworks we went out to eat with his fantastic sister and her amusing boyfriend. They're pretty great so it was cool hanging out with them. And then we hit up Ted. Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, talking stuffed teddy bear, etc.

It was....interesting. I mean, not awful. Heart-warming at times. Highly inappropriate at others.

Scale of Awesome would rate it somewhere around 4/10. It wasn't bad, I laughed, I just don't plan on watching it again.

Very Family Guy-esque. Since it was the same dude it kind of makes sense.

If you don't know the premise, it's basically this kid has no friends so he makes a wish that his teddy bear could come to life and they could be best friends forever. And it works, and then the story jumps to like 25 years later when he's 35 and has a girlfriend who's sick of the bear and all that.

Here:

like i said, interesting.

And, as is tradition. Out for the summer means a new Summer Song.

Cause I'm a nerd and declare the first song that plays after I'm officially out for the summer to be my summer song and I can't skip it for the entire summer. Which works out for some, and not so well for others.

2008: Kat Deluna's "Whine Up"

this was one of them that got old fast.

2009: "Tomorrow Still Comes" Will Dailey

he's a bit quirky, just go with it.

2010: "Remember Last Time" by Avi Buffalo

yes they're kids and his voice is much different recorded, this is live.

2011: "Tonight, Tonight" Hot Chelle Rae

technically it was the radio version, but i found this one and as i've posted the other multiple times, i'm posting this one now. shockingly not sick of this one yet.

which leads me to 2012 and...drumroll....or not.

Big surprise here, though it wasn't planned I hit shuffle as usual.

2012: "Want U Back" the US version of course

get tired of the kid rapper on the uk one.

the grunts really do make the song though, found this one and it's just not the same.

she is fantastic live.
and like 18.

and getting married.

and here's a little something extra just because i can.

Flight of the Conchords "Robo Boogie"

love the binary solo.

OUT!

Friday, June 29, 2012

Oh, sometimes I get a good feeling, yeah.

Pics of the week:

BEFORE: 9 carts

So we have these hours where we're scheduled in the "circ workroom" in which we check-in all the bookdrop and delivery items. This is what I walked into the other day.

Hour later: 0.5 carts

I left half a cart plus the new books cart for big brother as I didn't want to leave him with nothing.

But the new books cart takes forever cause you gotta change the status plus put them all out. So that could take an hour in itself, depending on how overloaded it is. And it was.

Oh the joys of the backroom.

My clean clothes.

Like three weeks worth of them.

In my gigantor closet.

My mother would be so proud of my organizational skills.

I'll get to it eventually.

I think I'm turning into a girl cause I'm running out of space.

Though to be fair a big portion of that is fun t-shirts.

And a random TV.

That works.

But I have a different one so now it just sits there.

I should probably do something with that as well.

So, today was good. Made a lot of progress on Food Drive stuff which is helpful as I'm off this weekend and it's supposed to start on Sunday. Basically, the plan is, put out the barrels, and hopefully the branches will have picked their volunteers to build the sculptures out of the items donated.

And if not they'll get assigned and just have to live with it for three weeks.

Fearless Leader and the New Girl volunteered at the work branch. They are both very artistic so I'm stoked. Boss's Boss's Boss is awarding the prizes this year, one for most creative, other for most items donated.

I have two judges so far, the Food Bank director and an artist. Still working on the third.

I'm hoping people get into it. If not it's just going to suck.

But we'll see I guess.

Last year there was a mass amount of food donated since we opened it up to the public. This year with all the hype about it perhaps it will gain even more.

Alright, need to sleep like immediately. Driving the Library Goddess to class tomorrow, meaning I have to be across town by 7AM. Meaning I'm up at 6AM cause I don't know where I'm going. I mean, I have the address but getting there might take a while.

And I'll need to be conscious. And you know, coherent. And perhaps communicable. Which doesn't happen often before 8AM. At camp perhaps, but that's cause there are children everywhere and I'm supposed to be in charge.

So I'm out for the night which means I need to switch from Dark Shadows to something I've seen and therefore won't need to stay up to see what happens.

Silence bugs me, no idea why. Even doing homework I have headphones in.

In honor of Leverage's soon to be released season four on DVD:

"Good Feeling"

love it.

Last class tomorrow, then I'm off for the weekend. Go see the boyfriend and buy some fireworks. Awesomeness.

i get a good feeling, yeah.

Love's what I got, Don't start a riot, You'll feel it when the dance gets hot...

I knew there was a reason I still wore this ring.

So I need to work on my phrasing.

Apparently saying "can I help you with anything else" just brings unwanted responses about asking me out.

So I went with "can I help you find anything" but then they just changed it to "your phone number".

It's situations like these where I hold up the left hand and then they go away.

Fantastic.

And I don't even have to say anything.

Though I'm not actually engaged what we learned in school is actually true. You pick up more clues from nonverbal communication than you do verbal.

And that's all the English major you'll get out of me tonight.

Staff meeting in the morning, not so excited about possible changes but if it happens it happens. I was told I was both valuable and efficient today so that was interesting. I attempt to do my best. We'll see what happens.

Had a massive freakout moment tonight. Remember I did that whole big huge project on Greek Mythology because I had this book that I thought was on a list of options to choose from but then it ended up not being on that list, or any others for this week so had to start from scratch with a book that's actually from one of the lists. But it is cultural so I thought that's why I picked it for this week. Apparently I must have picked it for last week's nonfiction selections.

It was ironic though because Sam the Man and I were talking about Prometheus today, trying to figure out what his specialty was. I don't think I could see that movie. Apparently it's pretty graphic and I heard some kid had a seizure while watching it because it was so intense. Probably not one to go on my list, though I do like the mythology fiction movies or books like the Percy Jackson series is fantastic, and now the Lost Hero series. But Rick Riordan used to teach mythology so he knows what he's talking about.

Anyway, the point is I had to start over and finished in a couple hours, but it's posted and done! Not as well done as the original Greek Mythology one but it works. You should read "Underground" by Shane Evans. Super cool. Great coloring.

So that's done, and my other books are posted online which just leaves class on Saturday and I gotta be across town by 7AM then so I should enjoy sleep now while I still can.

Songs You Know But Forgot You Knew Them:

so different from their others yet their only number 1 single. love it. flashbacks.

you can call me your fool, only wanna be with you...

Why are all the sculptures of the Greek gods naked?

Seriously?

I'm trying to make a powerpoint with images of the gods and I can't exactly include those since a parent might complain, but those are the best examples because they're holding the symbol that represents them like a trident or lightning and they're not animated. Though animation might not be bad since it's for kids.

So yeah, Greek mythology. I'll post the link when I'm done if you're into that stuff. I'm kind of a nerd for it. Well, that and ancient Egypt...and Drew Barrymore, Women's Murder Club, Chuck, Leverage, Castle, the list goes on.

Today was not the best of days but it wasn't completely awful so I'm calling it a victory. It was the morning that mostly was bad but I was stressed and then something else just freaked me out and pushed me over the edge, needless to say I spent my lunch hour lying on the couch trying to make it all go away. Didn't work.

And that just makes it sound bad, which is was, but not because of work at the moment really. It was sea of estrogen at the home branch today total awesomeness - got called over there since a coworker is sick - and it was fun, like 5 of us total plus the aides and 2 supervisors for a staff meeting. Superwoman brought us pizza. I used to love that cause I got pizza, but now I'm full-time elsewhere and we get nothing. Mentor and I pretended to be bitter. Maybe Superwoman can pacify us with some donuts or juice as our meetings are in the morning instead of the afternoon.

Cleaned up a little in the backroom, shifted some stuff around, it's becoming quite the black hole for stuff, but it is summer reading so you can't keep it anywhere else.

Any big plans for the 4th? Mine are still a work in progress but mostly buy too many fireworks and head to the farm to light them off with the family. Always a lot of fun, we buy far too many, it's ridiculous. What's even more ridiculous is that I have yet to buy any at all. And I get a text from Mom going na-na na-na-na cause she bought some. Gonna have to call up my dorm mom to make sure they're open and head out there this weekend. It's amusing cause it's tradition that I call and she answers something to the effect of "yep, we're open!" Don't even have to ask, she just knows. For like the past 5-6 years.

Does anyone else feel like they're losing circulation in their arms at night and need to immediately go to sleep because it's starting to hurt and if you're asleep you won't feel it? And then wake up and it's fine? Is that normal?

Part of my arm is swollen, no idea why though I wouldn't be surprised if it was from Carter biting me. I'm so covered with them I can't tell whether he bit there or not. Awkward angle, I'll check it in the mirror momentarily.

If I regain circulation in my arms.

Made a lot of progress on the digital book project for Children's Lit. This is the only major one left aside from posting the ones I read online and writing reviews about audience, appeal, and awards. Then I'll be done! Until August! Woohoo!

I want a popsicle so I'll go get one. Just because I am. Maybe it'll bring back the circulation. Is that normal? Am I gonna like lose my arms or die or something? Question of the day.

Song You Knew But Forget You Know It

Two, Three, Four, stick around we'll tell you more...

Heartbreaking loss tonight at Bubby's game. 2-3, bases loaded and strikeout game over. With Bubby on third. A couple of in the park homeruns brought in the majority of the scores.

So Oldest Sister and Squirt are off on their trip which reminds me that I need a vacation. Other than camp. As that's not really a vacation. Well, it is from the library, but not from life.

Or maybe it is, I have more fun at camp than I do basically anywhere else.

Six month anniversary today with the boyfriend. Unless we go with January 1st which was the first actual date. In which case it will be six months in a couple days. Yay!

Think I should start a countdown to Vegas. There, that's an actual vacation. Unfortunately it isn't until November. Oh well, I'll find one of those websites that lists it online in a cool and flashy way. I'm too lazy to just count the days. And knowing me and my math skills I'd probably be way off.

What else? Today was pretty fast, did a lot supply stuff, came up with some food drive flyers. Found one of the three judges for the donated items sculpture. Director of the Food Bank, just sayin'... throwing that out there. Reach for stars, think it'd still be cool to get the mayor to be a judge. Or a TV host, some kind of local celebrity. Bring in some good press, support the library and all that.

Alright literally falling asleep at the keyboard. More of the same tomorrow. Working then Bubby's baseball, then gotta make time to finish my assignment. Come up with a digital book presentation and post the link.  Not sure if a paper is needed to go along with it but I wouldn't be surprised. Been writing a lot of those.

Okay, I'm out.

will now have it stuck in my head tomorrow. thanks for that sketch.

Roam if you want to, roam around the world...

Okay so Arizona won.

I can live with that, they haven't had a championship in a while.

Sad that SC couldn't pull off a 3-peat, but they did make it to the championship so that says something.

Had fun watching the game, a lazy night with the boyfriend. He fell asleep on the couch, don't think he's into the CWS as much as me, but that's probably true for a lot of people. Just glad to see him and talk to him as we've both been pretty busy lately.

This week is full of baseball, Bubby has two games that I'm going to keep book for since Oldest Sister is out of town.

And at some point before Thursday I have to write a paper. Come up with a presentable strategy to use in a library book group. And read some books. And post about them. But I've posted two already so just two more. I think that's all the assignments I have for this class. Just gotta remember to pick up the Library Goddess at 7AM on Saturday. or I'm in big trouble.

Pretty tired at the moment, no idea why. Slept in and only worked from 4-6. Then it was baseball with the boyfriend. But perhaps I should sleep soon so I don't hate myself when I wake up in the morning.

Songs of the night:

you'd be surprised how many comments were about mushrooms and cocaine. or maybe you wouldn't be.

heard this one on the way to the college town last night.

we joked cause it reminds me of the wedding singer, but apparently before that movie came out it was a big hit. so i'm young. which is good, cause her children make me feel old.

"...me, fatty, sideburns lady, and the mutants over at table nine..."

Out, full day of work tomorrow.

i want u back, i want u back, want-want-u-want-u back, uh!

Where do I start?

Jammed all day at the home branch with the Glee-Loving Boss and my ex-aide-partner-in-crime. Was cool catching up and all that, and actually massively busy, especially when he went to lunch and I was by myself. But isn't that how it always works.

No massive takeovers or small fires, just some kids who talked endlessly. So I talked them into joining the summer reading program and sent them to the volunteer. And it worked. But then they came back.

After they left it got pretty quiet and he was back to start the movie. I took off at 6, carpooled to my college town with Oldest Sister and Squirt. She babysat for Second Sister while we hit up the new Mexican place. It was awesome. Got a huge pitcher of mango margaritas. And got through like half of it. And there were three of us.

And what's more amusing is we're talking and this old dude at the table next to us comes over and gives us crap about not being able to finish it. So I downed some. Gave me a brainfreeze, my third of the night. But there was still at least a fourth of a pitcher left, and it was pure alcohol you could see the division.

Their table was amusing, it was one of the chicks birthdays and they sombrero-d her and put whip-cream on her face. And sang. Remind me not to go there on my birthday.

Had some fun, interesting stories and all that, and I was only scarred for life once which is a new record so I'd call it a victory.

Quotes of the night:
-"Everybody has an uncle Johnny." So, my grandma - dad's mom - was a bit stubborn. Okay, a bit more than a bit. My favorite quotation of hers comes from when she refused to go downstairs because of a tornado warning. "Wake me when it's in the yard." I still quote it cause seriously, there's been some sort of storm warning almost every other day for weeks. Wake me when it's in the yard. Then I'll run like hell.

Anyway, she was stubborn. We have no idea what Uncle Johnny did, but she would not let him live it down. And as we were being all philosophical and all that crap, we've decided that pretty much everyone has an Uncle Johnny in their lives. Someone who drives them mad to the point of frustration.

And I liked the quote so I'm gonna put it in something. Anecdote of some sorts, and leave it unexplained. See what happens. If I actually have time to write anything anytime soon. Though I do only work 4-6 tomorrow, maybe I'll pull up a word doc and continue on with the apartment story. Geez, apartment story, been a while. I do have thoughts about all the tenants, I just gotta actually put them down on paper. Or virtual paper at least. Shitty first drafts, write down everything you can get rid of it later.

This made more sense in my head before I started typing, ignore that and go with these ones.

Oldest Sister: "She was a S-L-U-T. I don't know why I'm whispering."
Second Sister: "Carrie can spell."

There's always a mass amount of sarcasm that goes with dinners like these. And a mass amount of children stories. Apparently even when their children aren't around they still feel compelled to censor themselves. Mostly. Then get them some liquor and that goes away. Though the censorship wouldn't do much good anyway as the one who spelled it out is the one with kids aged 12 and 14. Think they can spell that.

Their kids are quite humorous. We talked a lot about them and what they've got going on, reminiscing of their moments of snarkyness. I remember one time, Bubby was like five, and he said "Crap" and I told him he was too young to say crap. He asked what he was supposed to say instead and I said something like "oh carrots" or "oh potatoes" to which he replied "you're a potato" and I probably said something about him being carrots, I think there was something about fried cheese thrown in their somewhere and it went back and forth for a while and then he hit me with, "You don't even have any brains, there's just spiders crawling around up in there."

I died. And crowned him king of the comeback.

He's clever like that, do not underestimate the kid. He's full of one-liners.

What else have we got from tonight? Oh yeah, so we were pulling up to the restaurant and this song started to play and I was explaining it to Second Sister as she had never heard it and she was like whatever. And then we were driving to her place and it started playing on the radio and oh my god, every time the chick grunts we cracked up.

too funny.

This is the American version, in the UK one there's a kid rapper and the video is a bit more um, UK. Interesting interpretations as the UK one is all fancy with photos and digital effects, and this one is like punk rock meets 50's diner. Americana.

Alright I'm out for the night. Sleeping in twice in three days man, I could get used to this. Not that it will happen again anytime soon. I'm out until around 3ish as I don't go in until 4. Don't freak out if I don't answer my phone until after noon. I'm sleepin' in! and probably watching some Dark Shadows, gotta get through more ILL's so I can request Freakazoid and Dexter's Lab.

i don't wanna be someone who walks away so easily i'm here to stay and make the difference that i can make...

You can call off the search and rescue.

I'm still here, Smo stayed over and as it's kind of rude to post when someone's here I went off the radar for a couple nights.

But now you're stuck with me again, so a couple things you missed:

Thursday: Worked all day, of course, bit of a different schedule though. Food Drive brunch in the morning, followed by pickup up 14 barrels and distributing throughout the system. Took us a few hours but we got them all out and talked to the supervisors. Doesn't start until the 1st so at the moment they're in the backroom until further notice.

Still gotta figure out some poster stuff to send them. As we can't fundraise on library property I'm thinking something like, "The library branches are having a competition to see who can create the best statue. Donate and help your branch win the prize." or something to that effect. Better worded. I'll work on it.

After that the day was basically cake, off at 5 then hit up hit up Bubby's baseball game after that. Oldest Sister was gone so I had to do book, and will again a couple times this week. Did okay, until the other team switched their batting order without telling me. That went well. But we fixed it so we're good.

Friday: Smo slept over Thursday night and woke up super early to do her golf thing Friday morning. I, however, slept in 'til about noon, awesomeness, woke up and watched some SVU. Got season 12, again, this time with no cracked disc. Glad I ordered a different one, would have missed AJ/JJ and the awesomeness that is Debra Messing.

After that met up with Smo/Juwanna/Wordsmith for some icecream and went to another of Bubby's games. Got some good hits, they won them both, hoping they'll win this week so they can make it to the tournament. Then went to Juwanna's place for some waffles and watch the beginning of SC kicking Arkansas's butt, woohoo!

Championship games start Sunday night, SC's gonna rock it. And Juwanna's cooking rocks.

Saturday: 9-6 but it flew by pretty quickly. Short amount of staff on the weekends means if there's people there we're fairly busy. Came in spurts, but I got to work with some cool people so we had fun. Off for the night so just finished SVU, now on to GCB. Gotta stay awake until the boyfriend calls. Besides, good to fly through ILLs, keep running into things I want to ILL before the official changeover. Rocket Power is one of them, that's next on my list. Maybe Freakazoid.

Aww, Castle, that show is so fantastic. and Revenge, I want to watch that. Sorry, previews.

Oh yeah, forgot about this one.

Okay, so why have I not heard of this until buying GCB on DVD?

"Odd Life of Timothy Green"

ummmm? total bizarre factor.

Never heard of it, Suzi and I were watching and like, what??? Jennifer Garner and never heard about it until now.

What else? Oh I get to jam with the Glee-Loving Boss at the home branch all day tomorrow. After that heading out to dinner with sisters for some Mexican food. Apparently there's a new one in Second Sister's town and as I went to college there I figured I should check it out.

Sorry, phone. Hour later, think this is the longest it's taken me to post but for you it's like super fast.

Or super slow, depending on how much longer I ramble.

But the boyfriend is officially safe and having fun in Oklahoma so now I'm officially out for the night.

"I Won't Give Up" Jason Mraz

went thru and bought a bunch of new stuff off itunes. actually been listening to the radio a bit lately instead of the constant ipod, aren't you proud?

ps - carter has officially claimed a new spot in the apartment. i got out a new blanket and threw it on the chair so it was out of the way and now he's like konked out on it, same with yesterday.

More tomorrow.

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

oh superfly

It's official.

I've transitioned.

I'm now officially a granola.

It wasn't enough that I drank green tea and I had a fat cat, but now apparently even my mother thinks I'm granola cause she bought me a dress claiming it was "me" like myself represented in fabric and the dress is all like earthy with browns and greens and reds and it's all flowy... and if that's me on fabric then I'm a granola.

But I'm okay with that.

And the dress is nice so I will wear it.

Look you even get that in writing.

Actually eating the cherries she brought me right now.

I really should be passed out by now, early morning tomorrow and a long day. Food Drive meeting in the morning, followed immediately by a stop at the grocery store for milkjugs then we'll go around them branches to drop off the barrels/flyers/posters/milkjugs, in the meantime stop off at headquarters to make copies of check stuffers so we can send them through delivery...

Make sure the barrels are left in the back until the first of July, and closer to the day I'll send an email to the system explaining the food drive and our competition for this year. Still a bit of a secret but all will be revealed tomorrow. Little worried about motivation but we'll figure it out.

More on that later. I'm sure there will be plenty.

What else?

Wrote and submit my nonfiction strategy paper, added four books to my goodreads account for class, vacuumed my apartment, got some groceries, a pretty active night.

Tomorrow will be more active and it's a big/early day so I should crash. Gotta get up early enough to get brother in law's pickup then head over to the kickoff brunch. Blah!

"Tilt Your Head Back" Nelly feat. Christina Aguilera

stuck in my head since seeing Dark Shadows, this song was inspired by Curtis Mayfield sharing the same intro as "Superfly". The intro plays in the background when Barnabus is walking through town seeing everything 1970's for the first time but whenever I hear it I jump to this one instead of the original here:

"Superfly" Curtis Mayfield

that is the actual song playing in the background since this is from the 70s and that is not.

OUT!

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

so we're coming out of the kitchen cause there's something we forgot to say to you...

I find myself watching the Arizona vs. FSU game over and over because I keep falling asleep and I want to watch the extra innings. I mean, I know who wins, but I still want to watch the extra innings.

Actually a pretty good day, taught one of the interns how to do expired/cancelled holds, checked in a whole cart of new stuff, helped out at the Summer Reading Event with the Saltdogs, got my picture taken with the mascot after my camera phone backfired on me like twice, found some books for an outreach event with one of my TAB kids, did some supply runs meanwhile stabbing myself with a pencil, taught a different intern all the Lab stuff with Girlscout - Team Awesome reunited - and then came the highlight of the day which was girls night with the Queen of Awesome.

That rocked.

Got some indian food, will probably eat my chicken tikka leftovers at around 2AM - have you ever noticed how good food tastes in the early AM's?

Actual adult conversation about actual real-life stuff mixed with a really strong cosmo and our amusing stories made for a fun night. After dinner we hit up a coffee shop and sat outside for a while. Her kiddos are getting older and my camp is coming up so we talked all about the joys of children running wild.

A nice break from the norm and makes me miss the home branch even more. But I get to work there next week so that'll be fun.

Took some excellent pictures, I'd upload them in my phone wasn't being so weird. Technology and me are just not cohesive today.

But it wasn't all play today, wrote and submit a paper tonight. We had to attend a summer reading event and do a write-up, done! Now all I have left for that class is a nonfiction reading strategy due Thursday, upload some audience and appeal reviews on goodreads for 4 nonfiction and 4 cultural j books, and do a media book project pimping out a book in a virtual way, and then I'm done!

So tomorrow will be a big day as well, after work I gotta go get groceries cause Smo is coming and I got nothing, then clean, then write the nonfiction strategy paper and upload those reviews then go to bed. And Thursdays I'm supposed to go to my nephew's game and learn how to do book as apparently they want me to do that for some future games. For some reason. Guess we'll figure that out.

Oh and Thursday is also Food Drive Day, meaning early morning picking up barrels and driving to all the branches to drop them off and explain the gameplan. Meaning I should have that officially written out so I'll know how to explain it. In actual grown up words that sound professional and make sense and stuff.

Yes, and stuff.

Alright, song of the day:

Heard this one immediately after our departure from girls night and found it fitting.

Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves - Eurythmics feat. Aretha Franklin

love the dance moves from 2:18-2:20

out!

Monday, June 18, 2012

and baby, you've got what it takes.

Pretty busy day today, worked 9-6, then hit up Squirt's volleyball games, and made it home to watch SC lose to Arkansas, sad day.

But we're not out of it yet we can come back. Take on Kent State on Wednesday, the only Cinderella left of the bunch. Still sad Stony Brook got eliminated, still blaming it on jitters. It's a lot to take, few errors and a lack of offense kind of kick your own butt.

That just leaves Arkansas and Arizona as undefeated. I don't have problems with either of those, Zona kicked UCLA's butt so that was cool and Arkansas has NE's old coach Dave Van Horn. That's who Grams picked for the tournament. Cool Aunt got her a shirt, bet she was excited to see them beat SC tonight.

Sad day for me, but they'll come back.

Stoked Florida is toast.

We're not big fan of the Floridas. Or anything from Texas. Minus A&M, I don't mind them. And the Horned Frogs from TCU, they're okay. Kind of an interesting logo but I guess so is a gamecock, seawolf or cornhusker really.

Enough about the CWS, I'm sure I'll overload you with that for the next week.

What else is going on?

School. Lots of homework there, though not as much this week which is nice since I'm semi-busy.

Big plans for a girls night tomorrow with the Queen of Awesome, desperately need one of those, gonna get some indian food, then Thursday night Smo is coming out to stay over as she has a thing here on Friday. I'm just glad I have Friday off. Gonna sleep in, do some homework, work some movies maybe. I have so many freakin' things checked out that I haven't gotten to yet cause all I watch is baseball.

And skateboarding.

I love DVR.

Apparently the boyfriend is excited about Dallas's return to TV.

I have no qualm against Dallas, though I didn't watch the original, apparently I'm supposed to look into it.

I'll add it to my list, along with the rest of Dark Shadows and Bewitched seasons 2-8.

Anyway, so I'm trying to work on some time management this week. Did a little homework tonight, planning mostly and finding books, can write and finish everything Wednesday night and since it's not due until Thursday at 11:59PM I'll have to time to finish any leftovers before Smo gets here at 11.

What else? Umm... few more camp applications today so got to input all that information. But I'm kind of a nerd for that stuff, I like assigning campers and counselors to cabins and coming up with a schedule, ordering t-shirts, and writing skits.

Speaking of, will have to work more on that soon, though technically I can't officially write/finish them until like the day of cause my numbers are constantly changing. I get frantic phone calls from parents on Thursday asking if their kid can still come on Friday. But I don't want to be that camp that turns people away so we make room and switch stuff around. Same reason we don't charge campers that much, we want to encourage them to come, get bigger every year. If that means we're gonna have to come up with some extra space we'll find it.

Like I said, nerd. I'm queen of the nerds.

And this queen of the nerds is thinking she should probably stop rambling about things like baseball, tv and camp so you will not actually think she is the nerd queen.

Cause I'm not a fan of that nickname.

Even though it's probably true.

So, on to the music recs, here's an unknown, he does a lot of covers and he's really talented on the guitar especially. He goes by "The other Josh Turner" as he is not the one you think of when you hear the name.

These are only a couple of my favorites, check them out.

"Baby (You've Got What It Takes)" cover by Josh Turner and Larkin Dodgen

these kids are great, excellent cover. his guitar is fantastic, wish i could play like that.

"Get Back" cover by Josh Turner and friends

like i said, impressive.

Alright, out for the night.

But I'm thinking it over anyway

Yes, I missed yesterday.

Fell asleep watching the game. Then street skateboarding.

I love my DVR.

Not much from today, full day at work but it was pretty slow. Even though there were a surprising amount of people there.

Yesterday was fun, had class in the morning then a camp meeting in the afternoon.

Long day, but worth it. Talked about the upcoming assignments a lot and got out early - we don't have class next week so they gave us time to work on assignments due in the next couple weeks. Only one more class left to actually attend, the rest is just homework posted online.

Camp meeting was basically just t-shirt stuff, worked on some songbook stuff, and finally have copies of it run off to send to people - liz finished what i've been putting off for months cause she's awesome like that - so I'll send those out this week, gotta get their addresses first.

And the usual joking around was included as well, t-shirt designs for our golf team included though homey-g-wigger was absent. She'll be around for our next meeting in a couple weeks when make final decisions, though I just got an email from Pastor with some design options.

What else from yesterday? Oh yeah, so how does one break into a safe?

That sounds bad.

I have this safe from college which I haven't opened since.

And I lost the keys so I want to get whatever it is out of the safe but can't get into without keys. So I'm thinking of taking it to the farm and having dad saw it open. That'll be an interesting adventure.

But as I'm not a criminal and don't know how to pick locks I'm thinking that is my only option.

Will photograph that adventure I'm sure.

Speaking of photographs, Superwoman included that freakin' bird photo in her weekly email to the staff and I got this email from my boss's boss's boss saying when she read "carrie's bird" she thought it was me flipping someone off.

I told her I appreciate her faith in my customer service, haha. But that Superwoman would most likely take points away for something like that.

And right now I'm at 145.5 and I'm kinda diggin' that score, even though I'm still being beaten by both Space Cadet and my mother, but those are longer stories which if you searched on here long enough you could probably find.

So that was yesterday, today was a full day at work, thought a lot about food drive logistics - more on that later - then came home to watch some CWS I had taped, so sad Stony Brook is toast. They were cool, got us on ESPN and everything with our shirts.

I like Stony Brook, they were the underdogs and their pitcher is highly amusing.

But they made it to Omaha and that's huge for an unknown, especially since they had the best record of the bunch. I think the jitters took them down, especially at the game we went to. Lots of errors.

Oh well, I'm all for SC now, they're gonna dominate, 3-PEAT!

Anyway, I'm off to bed. Exhausted and have to work all day tomorrow. Yeehaw?

Liquid Onions and Rally Ranchers

Ah, the College World Series.

My third year of attendance, but this was the first year my team lost.

LSU dominated, Vanderbilt rocked it, Stony Brook...got hosed.

But they did it in style.

When Nebraska doesn't make it - which is always - Omaha tends to adopt the underdog so it was a sea of red, but not for the usual reason. The stands were selling out of Stony Brook stuff, I guess when they heard about that the coaches were handing some shirts out yesterday to spread the love.

Was an excellent adventure of a day. Worked 9-11, answered some grammar questions in reference, then came back, changed, grabbed camera and went over to the Cool Aunt's house where we immediately left, picked up my cousin, and headed to Omaha. Got some rock star parking, they wanted to charge 30 bucks to park in a lot but the Cool Aunt found a spot for $1.50 worth of quarters.

Hit up a shop then headed for the food tent, we got wristbands for free hamburgers/hotdogs, and other various barbecue stuff. You know how they put ketchup into those little packets and mustard and that stuff? Well, apparently now they put chopped onions in them as well. Handy, but bizarre. They were all liquid-y and weird.

Couldn't taste them anyway so I guess it didn't matter.

Amongst the many fixings was also jolly ranchers. We loaded up on those, ate them during the game after labeling them "Rally Ranchers" though no rally seemed to start because of them. It was attempted but after UCLA took a 4-0 lead in the first inning it wasn't looking pretty.

Anyway, after the food we stopped by some tents to get some fan gear then headed in.

The seats were fantastic, 3rd base line, felt like we were on the field.

We even got on camera in our awesome Stony Brook shirts. Was humorous cause I get this text from SMO asking if I was at the CWS wearing a Stony Brook shirt.

Yes.

Yeah, Cool Aunt and I made ESPN, lovely. I DVR'd it. Should take a picture, still frame.

Anyway, the thing about sitting on third base line is that you constantly need to pay attention or you will get hit in the head with a foul ball. But you know, that only happened like twice, most of them were at least 20 feet away. Every time one headed our direction I yelled out our usual "Blatt!" word of warning, then Kyle would yell "Bounce" so it would land and bounce toward him. He caught one last year, was pretty cool.

Go here: Still Call it Rosenblatt

One dude hit like 6 foul balls in a row. Is there a maximum on that?

Final 9-1 UCLA, gotta set my DVR so I can tape the rest of them. Working all the time kind of takes away the time I usually watch them.

Anyway, took a lot of pictures, observed right field and left field fans argue about who sucks, got on TV - ESPN even so I'll add/cross that one on/off the bucket list.

Really need to start one of those.

Maybe tomorrow.

Gotta sleep now.

Early class tomorrow and coffee can only go so far.

OUT!

"Our House" Madness

all ended up singing this by the end of the day after we heard it whilest using the restrooms after the game.

Freakin' Birds.

What a weirdass day.

No, seriously, what a weirdass day.

Where do I begin?

Woke up with still no air-conditioning so I got to call that in. Luckily our maintenance people are fantastic and it was fixed by the time I got home, needed a new fan or something.

Go to work, first thing was the staff meeting. Got to explain the prizes for the teen's summer reading program. They get a free betta fish. How cool is that? And ice cream and Saltdogs tickets and Amigos coupon, etc.

So that was fine.

Everything at work was fine up until like 10. Which is when the staff meeting ended and we opened.

After that I was toast.

Dropped an entire stack of DVDs, discs flying everywhere. That was smooth.

I screwed up telling patrons due dates twice. And I only helped two patrons at the desk that hour.

Though I did get it right immediately after I screwed it over.

But still, obnoxious. I just figured it was cause I was caffeine-less. So I went for a Mountain Dew assuming all will be healed.

...
...
...

All was not healed.

Okay.

So here's the kicker.

Off-desk hour, usually I spend stocking supplies. Which was my intended goal, so I walk into the backroom and it was just like any other time I walk in the backroom you know daily - actually like 8 times daily - except this time I look over and there's a bird sitting on one of the bookdrop carts.

Me, thinking this is a prank because there's a fake bird somewhere in the building and I know that cause it scared the crap out of me the first time, decide to go check it out.

And I'm walking and I get closer and then... it moved.

I freaked.

Ran to the safety of Queen of the Known Universe and Info-Man at the front desk.

They proceeded to make fun of me.

And told me to call animal control/Superwoman as she was the supervisor on duty that hour.

But she was at lunch, and it was just a bird, so I went with the guard instead.

This guard is a big tall guy, fought in wars, knows lots about weapons and all that so I figured I was safe.

We go to the backroom and devise a plan. Clear a path to the outside door - which was propped open cause the delivery man was there - and scare him towards it.

Sounds like a fine plan, right?

Problem is that birds are uncooperative.

The guard walked towards it making loud noises and waving his arms and the freakin' thing flies STRAIGHT AT ME! Who was standing NOWHERE NEAR THE DOOR WE WERE ATTEMPTING TO LEAD IT TO.

So I'm like crouched in a corner screaming bloody murder, the guard starts chasing the bird around the backroom, it flies all over the place except the direction we want it, and leaving messes wherever it goes - disgusting and I'll get there I promise - finally it flies into the back hallway. Which is good cause that's halfway to the door.

Then it decides to hide in a corner.

At that point I stayed the heck away from the back hallway. Now I just hear the guard yelling, bird wings flapping, and the delivery guy laughing his ass off. I round the corner, still freaking out, and see the door slam with the bird on the other side of it.

Goal.

But oh my god.

Seriously.

So, I go out to the desk still a bit freaked, actually I was basically freaked for the rest of the day but for various other reasons, and Info-Man hits me with "now we know what you're afraid of" implying there will be pranks.

Which I'm prepared for, I had a prank war going with Glee-Loving Boss until I moved to the work branch full time.

But the thing is I'm not scared of birds.

I'm just not a fan of them flying in my direction.

Which I explained to BossLady when she returned from lunch - not Superwoman, BossLady aka my immediate supervisor. I give her a tour of the backroom and all the places the bird went and she resolved to cleaning it up....after she chased me with it. Long story.

I refused to touch it cause I was still in that freak-out mindstate so I followed her around the room and handed her sanitizing wipes. Meanwhile the intern was laughing.

There was a lot of laughing about the incident.

I can now.

I told Mentor "it scared the crap out of me."
and she came back with "it scared the crap out of him too."

Anyway, the rest of the day like every time I opened a door or my locker I paused expecting stuff to fly out at me.

And sadly, that's not the end to the weirdness of today.

So I was in charge of the teen summer reading program today aka "Monster 'Dos" where the College of Hair Design people came and gave a bunch of kids colored hair and scary hairdos that they'll go home, scare their parents with and the parents will probably come back next time and be like, what the heck were you thinking?

Anyway, so I introduced a couple of my TAB kids who talked about TAB and joining and all the stuff we do.

I've seriously had 5 new members within the past two weeks.

And of course we don't meet again until September so there's gonna be a lot of reminder emails and phone calls after the summer.

The event went off without a hitch, and as there was time at the end the kids talked me into getting my hair colored.

Now I have orange lightning bolts with green stars.

They rock and I'm keeping them for the game tomorrow. Gonna rock it out at the stadium.

And since I had to do it we talked Mentor and another one of my youth services supervisors who I joke around a lot with - she's the one I always show my torn up leg to after I play softball cause she screams and tells me to wear pants - into doing it. She got pink hair and Mentor got a green star.

A lot of the little kids got some pretty crazy big hair but I'm not so big on that. Sticking with the lightning bolts and stars for now.

Which reminds me I gotta get my hair dyed before camp. They won't recognize me without it.

And my sideway hat.

Okay, so after work there's rain and hail and major wind, lots of lightning and thunder, actually still doing it. Hope I get this posted before the power goes out or something.

But I managed to get all my homework done and posted and I'm good until class on Saturday.

Will sleep well tonight with my air-conditioner fixed, though I'm guessing I'll have nightmares about birds or something.

Feel like my aunt.

One of the "favorite aunties" is deathly afraid of birds.

Probably partially my father's fault. He used to talk the other "favorite auntie" into chasing her with chickens when they were little.

Speaking of fun aunties, get to jam tomorrow with the Cool Aunt and my two cousins as we're going to the OPENING GAME for the COLLEGE WORLD SERIES! Woohoo!

It'll probably rain, it always does. First year we went and there was a 2 hour rain delay, but last year it only rained a little in the morning and then it was great all day.

Game starts at 4 but we like to go early, hit all the booths, walk around and take pictures. Oh yeah, gotta charge my camera.

So I'm working for two hours tomorrow then taking off to change, grab the camera, and meet up with them.

Stoked.

I need some new shirts.

Oh, irony of the day?

Was wearing a Batman shirt today.

Was tragically scared of winged creatures and totally not a superhero.

Will do better tomorrow.

I know, this post was super long compared to most recent ones. And, if you didn't read the above madness I'll sum it up for you now:

Bird in the Backroom
Not cool - Bird flies at you.
Cool - Guard comes to rescue.
Not cool - Bird poop all over.
Cool - Supervisor cleans up poop so I don't have to.
Not cool - Supervisor proceeds to chase me with said poop.
Cool - Anecdote to tell at work.
Not cool - Coworkers threaten bird pranks.

And then some stuff about lightning bolts and stars and storms and the college world series opener tomorrow.

There you go.

Three years later...

My air conditioner is broken.

Not cool.

So I got my college yearbook in the mail today. From junior year. 3 years later.

Still waiting on senior year's.

Interesting coming from a teacher's college, you'd think they'd have an organized system in place.

Watched more Dark Shadows whilst doing homework. Got a lot done, just have to scan and upload it, then explain two literacies it involves. Then upload reviews for all the books I read this week. All by 11:59PM. Not a big deal, I'm off at 6.

Ordered pizza cause I'm lazy. Ate like one slice. And some breadsticks. And cherry coke.

Sheldon: Is this your card.
Leonard: Nope.
Sheldon: Drat. Is this your card?
Leonard: Nope.
Sheldon: I'll be right back.

I so love Amy and her obsessive "Besties" thing with Penny, it's too funny. Trying to be all normal.

Oh, PS, shelved her book today. Apparently she is not only a scientist with a PhD but also a published author.

My air conditioner is still broken.

Drat.

Calling maintenance tomorrow.

Useless Information:

-Mona Lisa has no eyebrows.

-The only king without a mustache in a deck of cards is the king of hearts.

-Every minute in the US 6 people turn 17.

-Each king in a deck of cards represents an actual king in history.
Spades - King David
Hearts - Charlemagne
Clubs - Alexander the Great
Diamonds - Julius Caesar

-Harrison Ford has a species of spiders named after it.

-Upper and lower case letters got their name from the cases they were kept in, the bigger letters were kept in the case on top of the case full of the smaller ones.

-In 1784 the US had a state called Franklin after Ben but four years later it was incorporated into Tennessee

-Prince Charles and Prince William never travel together in the same airplane in case of a crash.

-Indiana has a city named Santa Clause.

-The Sanskrit word for war means desire for more cows.

And that's all I got.

And I'm hot. Cause my air conditioner's out.

But I said that already.

So I'm out, staff meeting tomorrow.

"Paradise City" Guns N' Roses

was a signature song in high school between myself and a classmate.

despite the grammatical error in their name they're a pretty great band.

love the jam out session in the video.

When you grow a pear you can call me back.

Finally caved and bought "Goin' Through the Big D" by Mark Chesnutt.

Stuck in my head and driving me nuts.

What did I do today?

Um. Homework.

Well, work first. Then read a lot for homework at lunch.

Um, at work I signed a lot of people up for library cards. Weird thing they all had February birthdays as I kept finding myself saying, "February, great month for a birthday."

What else?

Umm... came up with some posters for Thursday's Summer Reading Teen Event that I'm sorta kinda in charge of. Though I'm dragging Mentor with me cause I know I'll flail and she's the expert. Hair Design students are coming in and giving the kids some Monster Hairdo's to go with the Own the Night theme. Should be fun. So I hung those up all over the place.

Umm... oh got Dark Shadows Collection 1 on DVD through Interlibrary Loan. So far, awesomely cheesy. Thinking about bringing it to Camp J. Halfway through the first disc.

Which reminds me I haven't had a chance to properly review Dark Shadows. Will do that this week. The more I read about it the more I love it. I wanna watch it again to see if Elizabeth is wearing a key necklace and who Barnabas greets at the door during the party. Apparently - oh spoiler alert - Elizabeth killed her husband and wears the key around her neck, and the surviving main characters of the original Dark Shadows make guest appearances at the party. Jonathan Frid's last film, died like a month later.

He looks so young in Dark Shadows,  I was expecting for him to be older. But it's good, I may buy it off Amazon when the collection is re-released in July.

What else? Wrote out the paper due Thursday but waiting to post it until I get citation questions answered by the Library Goddess she's the pro. I could normally do them in my sleep but my main question is if the title includes a ? does it need a . after the ? ?

Guess we'll see.

Popsicles and popcorn for supper.

And that's pretty much today.

More tomorrow.

"Grow a Pear"  Ke$ha or K-E-dollar sign-Ha as on Glee

i'm just not hooked on your phonics. seriously love the melody lyrics and rhythm to this one.

Thumbs up for shawarma.

Highlights of the day:

-Woke up early, this time 8:25 instead of 8:35. Aren't you proud mother? I don't have to be at work until 9:05 and I usually leave around 8:45 so I'm good. This morning I was early, almost stopped for a donut and coffee but settled for a granola bar from my locker and some fruity flavored water.

-Stocked the Young Adult display as it was pretty much pillaged from the weekend. Proud of that one, actually brought up the YA circulation numbers as it brings attention to the section. I'm hoping it doesn't get converted to displaying something else.

-Squirt came in for her volunteer hours. Invited me to her volleyball games tonight.

-For once it wasn't me getting the creepy stalker I want to date you note!! Not that I don't look back fondly at "likes ass or jazz" incident, but seriously, the fact that Slim Shady was on the receiving end instead of myself really made my day. Ask her. It's highly amusing.

-Hit up the volleyball games. One sand, the other turf. She's pretty good, had some good serves and digs I was proud.

-Went to Babylon. A surprisingly short journey from here. Though we did miss the turn. But Danny & the Juniors kept telling me to go to "the hop" and I think my mind must have jumped to "where is the closest apartment complex with speed bumps?" and decided to go there first. We called it the scenic route.

-Ordered the shawarma at Babylon and gotta say, it was awesome. If the Avengers approved I figured it was worth a shot. Got a box-o-shawarma in the fridge which I'll probably pull out and reheat at about 3AM when I'm in and out of consciousness yet think I must eat something or I'll die. Is that just me?

-Talked with camp partner in crime and talked through some camp stuff. More of that this weekend after the weekend.

-Posted the homework that's due tomorrow at 11:59. Woohoo! Just gotta finish the three assignments by Thursday at 11:59 and I'm gold. Until next week. Then it'll be more of the same.

Quotes of the day:

"Stop being crazy in my dreams."

"Oh, my big toe!"

More Useless Information:

-The Red Sea is not red. However, the yellow river is actually yellow, though not for the reason one would assume.

-India has a bill of rights for cows.

-27% of Americans believe we never landed on the moon.

-Elephants are the only mammal that can't jump.

-A group of tigers is called a "streak".

-The bible has been translated into Klingon.

-Peladophobia is the fear of bald people.

-Kemo Sabe means soggy shrub in Navajo.

-No president of the US has been an only child.

-Frogs cannot swallow without blinking.

-Bulls are colorblind therefore they will usually charge at a matador's cape no matter what color it is.

-The triangular shape that Toblerone chocolate is packaged in is protected by law.

-When cows lay down they get up back feet first so if you get enough people to sit on the back end the cow won't be able to stand.

-Every year more people are killed by donkeys than in aircraft crashes.

"Uprising" Muse

from way back before everyone knew him because of kate hudson. classic.

I listened to a lot of Muse this weekend. It drives me nuts when a close friend is mad at me so I turn back to hard rock. Blasts it out for about 3 minutes until it comes back. Thankfully another song starts immediately after.

Think this one is my favorite aside from "Bliss". Though critics say they sound like Radiohead. Maybe. Thoughts?

Tomorrow's Word of the Day: "Criticaster: a minor or incompetent critic. The ending -aster is used to form nouns referring to someone who is inept or unskillful in a certain sphere of activity, for example, poetaster, a person who writes bad poetry, or medicaster, a person who falsely claims to have medical skills."

I'll leave it to my regulars to come up with how to use it in a sentence. I'm headed to the fridge to heat up some shawarma.

Milk duds are the most apologetic of the boxed candies.

Slept in this morning - apparently church was early and an outdoor service so I'm going tomorrow night.

So, took a nap, attempted some homework, made some dinner then the boyfriend stopped by watched some Big Bang Theory and the 4th Mission Impossible. Not bad, love Jeremy Renner stoked for his new movie.

I haven't seen the third but I saw the first two. Nothing too fantastic, especially the second one, but I still feel obligated to watch the their.

Aside from that it was a pretty lazy day.

Love it, Penny's dad is in town and Leonard is the only boyfriend he has ever so she makes him pretend they're still together.

I'm starving. Gonna make some pizza rolls, well, heat up some pizza rolls, then crash.

Yeah not much more as it was pretty relaxing. Tomorrow won't be, whole day at work then church then tons of homework. I would have done more today, but for the majority of it I need library books I haven't checked out yet. And in order to do that I'd have to visit the library. But it's my day off. Therein lies the quandary.

Tomorrow it is.

Okay, so I'm boring tonight. Here, watch this:

Big Bang Christmas

basically penny buys leonard and sheldon presents making Sheldon obligated to buy her one. his thing though is finding something of equal value and as he doesn't know what her gift to him is he buys multiple intending to return the ones they don't match her price value.

the leonard and penny thing is a different story, a cute scientist showed up at the lab, penny swooned and started saying she loved science, leonard attempted to ride the scientist's motorcycle but before he could go anywhere is fell over on him.

you can tell your dog to bite my leg.

So, interesting day. Highlights include:

Class this morning, had to leave at 7AM. Mornings are not my strong point so I stopped for coffee on the way there - the usual order but a different girl. She was fast and more efficient than the regular chick so that was exciting.

Then actual class was mostly about literacy and Blome's Taxonomy, art of asking good questions. Then we gave some booktalks, went over some homework from last week and talked about projects for this upcoming week.

Literally got a pat on the back from the Library Goddess telling me I nailed the assignment. Says I got APA citations down. Think I can do them in my sleep. Which is funny cause I did MLA for years and I never got the hang of that.

Actually was nervous cause when we broke off into our group - there's only a few of us that are Mizzou library people so we go to a different classroom, the whole like 6 of us - and she was talking about how we need to work on our citations. Then I checked my grade and she said I got it perfected. Best of the bunch.

Which I was stoked about cause there are some seriously smart people there. This is library school man.

After that was the drive home and I attempted some homework when I got here but it didn't last long. Though I am stoked for the assignment, well one of them anyone, coming up with a visual project on a book I'm thinking True Story of the Three Little Pigs but still brainstorming project ideas. She gave us a list, I've narrowed it down.

More on that later, actually more like tomorrow. When I have the time to work on it. Maybe stop by the library to pick up some books I'll need. But highly doubtful, I can do that Monday and work on it Monday night.

So I watched some Big Bang Theory to make all the crazy go away, I'm getting closer to season four. I just watched this great interview with Jim Parsons and the chick who plays his girlfriend - I can never remember her name and I'd butcher it if I tried. See if I can find the interview.

Mayim Bialik, would never had guessed that. She seems fantastic.

Anyway, so there was class and then there was homework and the Big Bang Theory and I'm almost about to crash when I get this text from the boyfriend saying we'll be there in ten minutes.

What?!

Who's we?

So yeah, ten minute warning, apartment's a semi-disaster area so I start throwing stuff in closets meanwhile thinking am I already asleep and just dreaming this conversation? But then the phone vibrates again telling me they're on their way so I keep throwing stuff in closets.

Turns out he and his friend went to the races then decided to stop by on their way out.

At 11PM.

Which as fine, enjoyable actually, just a bit out of the blue. Carter enjoyed playing with his friend, though this was right after he took a giant chunk out of a my leg so I wasn't happy with him. I haven't seen his friend since college and that was back when we were dating before. Not like before before, this was the second time. And currently we're on round three. But it's working and I'm happy.

They jammed out for a while, talked about high school and weddings and dancing, apparently if we get married the Cha Cha Slide is on the banned music list. Told him I'd have to clear that with a few friends first.

Anyway, so just altogether a good and unexpected day.

Song of the night:

Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus

stylin' man, stylin' love that it's two different hair styles but only one outfit.

"you can tell your dog to bite my leg" i remember we had this as karaoke at teen camp from way back like 5 years ago and MAK recited it and we all went, "what?!"

did you know that was the lyric?

Friday, June 8, 2012

So he found a chump sucker by the name of Cassio.

And so the day ends with more frustration and stress than it started, but I guess that happens.

I made an effort. And really that's more than I do for a lot of people so I'm going to bed with a clear head.

Or attempting to go to bed with a clear head cause if I don't I'll be a mess tomorrow.

And tomorrow is a big day.

Class at 8:30 meaning I leave at 7 and stop for coffee for myself and the Library Goddess on the way there. Then I get to act all smart and professional like I know what I'm doing and crap.

But as "crap" is not professional I'm getting all my "crap"s out now.

Driving today was crap.

Construction around work today was crap.

The blasting music from the festival surrounding us was crap.

Or maybe it wasn't, all we could hear were the back beats.

And they were crap.

And endless.

Endless crap.

That's all of my crap for now.

I mean, there was more, but I'll leave it at that.

The slow traffic at work today drove me bananas. I actually had time to sit down and check my e-mail. Which is a rarity as of late. So I made some progress on the Food Drive plan, plotted with my partner in crime about some details.

All will be revealed next week at the management team meeting so stay tuned.

What else did I do today? Think of good stuff.

Oh got Noodles for lunch. That rocked.

Waiting in line for half an hour for them was crap.

Oops, good things, ummm....

I got to work with Slim Shady for an hour. And say more than two words to Fearless Leader who I rarely see at all.

They don't let us work together anymore, pretty sure it's a conspiracy. The only time I see them is in the parking lot after work!

Actually that's kind of amusing because pretty much everyone parks there or in the garage across from it so on the way out we ran into Super Librarian Status who had to come back for his daughter's dance recital. It's humorous to walk into work together in the mornings, looks like we carpooled or something.

And then of course there was the time we almost got pummeled by Superwoman. Of all the times to have jaywalked - dude, don't do that in front of your boss. She'll not only give you crap for it, she'll also almost hit you with her car.

But Slim Shady started it!

I just followed!!

And the funniest thing was that we didn't even realize that it was her that was flying towards us until she pulled up to the light and honked, then rolled down the window and yelled at us.

Then told us she does it all the time.

Too funny.

But I guess jaywalking is a way of life when you work downtown.

What else from today? Oh yeah, so endless frustration forced me into finding my happy place, aka camp stuff. So I uploaded more application info and sorted it out. Then attempted to write some skits but everything came out all angst.

And the parents don't want angst. So I distracted myself with the Reduced Shakespeare Company on DVD instead.

Oldest Sister and I went to see them live, it was highly entertaining. Not as good as they were live, but you should check out the copy in the library. It's fantastic.

Here's my favorite: The Othello Rap

stick with it, it's worth it.

"Cause he had a big- SWORD!"

Adam is actually one of the founding members of the troop, the others were added later. But he's my favorite, and they're always making him wear the wigs and be the girl.

Okay, I've officially been distracted. Gonna throw on some Big Bang Theory and crash. Early day tomorrow.

Raise your capri to the sun.

Other things I learned this week:

-"Almost" is the longest word in the English language with all letters in alphabetical order.

-The reason firehouses have circular staircases is because they used to have horses and horses can walk up regular stairs, but not circular ones.

-My family is capable of remaining sane and semi-calm. We get thrown out of places like Valentino's and churches, so I was proud we made it the whole way through without a glare or comment.

-There's a law in California guaranteeing sunshine to every resident.

- On average more people fear spiders more than they do death.

Finished my homework and posted it. That's pretty much all I got today. 9-6 at work, obviously, did a lot of supply stuff. Jammed with a few of my favorite people.

I'm trying to figure out if I like pistachios or not. They're actually really gross. But I've eaten half a box over the past week.

They're gross.

Vomitrocious even.

But they're here.

And I'm eating them cause they're here.

They need to go away.

But if I eat them then they'll be away.

And i don't have to buy them anymore.

"What if a simulated van hits me?"
"I'll hit you in the face with a pillow."

Name that quote.

So yeah homework's done, I'm good until Saturday which is class. Then it'll be more of the same.

I'm out, long day tomorrow. And the day after that.

Started food drive planning stage, I'm stoked! Activity is staying under wraps at the moment as it's a work in progress but I'll tell you all about it when it's finalized.

"Barbara Ann" Beach Boys

grew up with this oen.

oh yeah, title is from 2 Broke Girls. Which I'm way behind on. But Max throws Caroline a birthday party and it's pathetic. And they drink capri sun. and it's fantastic. The episode, not the party.

I'm counting catwomen.

Things I learned today:

- If you leave a pop in a hot car it will explode. All over your interior.

- Dinner with family means a lot of interesting anecdotes. And apparently they know the boyfriend's parents. And I'm supposed to tell them hi.

- I do not like the book "A Long Walk to Water". It's depressing. And long.

- Goodreads.com is addicting. And distracting. And I need to finish my other homework before adding more to it.

- I miss the show Big Bang Theory. Starting season two in the background.

- Chuck Lorre is super talented. Writer for Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Mike & Molly plus Dharma & Greg and Cybill which were two of my favorites. For some reason he reminds me of Steven Levitan, he does Modern Family and more importantly Just Shoot Me. Something about the writing style and sense of humor.

- I actually can make it through the day with only a few hours of sleep. Carter had a bad night, sick and all that so we were up pretty late.

It was a pretty great day, got a kid interested in TAB, that's two in like two days. So September should be fun and interesting. After work was dinner with some extended family. Was cool to see them again. Apparently they are super stoked about selling Grams apartment. Cause it means they're done cleaning it and all that. Hooray! Huzzah! Other celebration explanations!

Pizza buffet of awesomeness.

Now I'm hungry again.

Priority: Find Food. Then sleep.

Word of the Day: "Panache: dash or flamboyant in manner or style"

Songs you know but forgot you knew them:

"If You're Not The One" Daniel Bedingfield

acoustic, i love it.

is that really how you spell that word? acoustic?

yep, definitely time for bed.

cause this ain't no life or death situ-way-tion

"That sounds more like 'We're a tall, thin woman who wants to make a coat out of your Dalmatians'."

Spent the morning at the home branch, afternoon at the work branch, and the evening with the boyfriend.

The system was down so we couldn't search anything so I cheated and used Worldcat. It's a worldwide that says which libraries own the item you're looking for. Then if our library is listed you know it's available at one of the branches. Most of the time. Then if you know the author or the subject you could lead them to the section. Hopefully it'll be up and running by tomorrow morning.

At least the internet was working. Whenever that's down it takes the system down with it, and the patrons freak out cause they can't get to whatever website they're wanting to get to.

Got to see Sensei for about a minute, had fun working with some friends talking about old times.

Watched some Big Bang Theory with the boyfriend.

"Stick that in your speedo, Jacuzzi Bob."

I find myself falling back to that when I'm stressed.

Not that I'm stressed now, aside from work, school and camp I'm pretty relaxed.

Cause you know, none of those are time-consuming.

Especially when you're 40 hours at work plus taking a class that meets every Saturday and in the meantime you have homework to go with it.

Tomorrow night some family are going for pizza but I'm gonna have to finish my homework afterward since it's due Thursday. I have the majority of the reading done, just a few more pages then have to add the books to goodreads.com and find a pre-reading strategy to write a paper on.

"I'm not even gonna ask why you're pimping me out for cheese."

I haven't watched any episodes with Sheldon's girlfriend and as an avid fan that makes me a bit pathetic. Especially since she came in like end of 4th season, right?

Funny story is that she actually has a phD in physics or whatever, so she is what she plays.

Though she's probably a bit less awkward.

Music: You should go here: April McLean's Head Over Heels such a great song but only on myspace and itunes.

and the youtube that has it is all fanvideos.

sappy and gross and blah.

"After All" Saving Abel

love this one.

OUT!

Monday, June 4, 2012

I get a good feeling, yeah

Falling asleep so yes this is short.

Well, it's official, TAB is out for the summer. Which means I have time to plan out some activities for the upcoming school year. Artwork is first to decorate the YA, after that I'm clueless, any suggestions?

I'll figure it out.

More projects maybe. Plan for upcoming events.

Eh.

I'll figure it out.

Just got home from Bubby's baseball game. They only won 15-4.

Which is an "only" since last game they won 25-0 and the one before that was 24-1.

Bubby was great, played catcher, 1st base and shortstop.

I think their power is in their pitchers, they're great. Accurate and fast.

And amusing, they're only 12.

Makes me look forward even more to the opening game for CWS. Wonder who will be playing. Gotta check into that. Figure out who I want to root for. But it'll be a while. Last year's was highly entertaining, mimosa's for breakfast, lots of booths and t-shirts. I'm stoked.

Before the game was homework - I'm done for Tuesday but I'll finish Thursday's tomorrow night. Wednesday is Valentino's with the family so gotta start it early.

And of course work 9-6. Tomorrow I'm at the home branch for the money, huzzah! I get to sleep in a whole extra five minutes. Which doesn't seem like a lot but it feels like it when you're half asleep.

So that's the plan for tomorrow, work, homework...that's all I got.

"Good Feeling" Flo Rida

i wondered who sang this song, but i'd never listened all the way through. now i got it.

Been listening to XM a lot cause it's a free trial to draw you in. It might be working. I'm liking the no commercial thing. And the comedy channel is highly amusing. Plus the prime country channel brings back some good memories.

But then they're stuck in my head.

We'll see.

Tomorrow's Word of the Day: "Flexanimous: an adjective meaning 'having the power to influence, moving, affecting.' It comes from Latin words meaning 'bend' and 'mind'.

alright, out for the night. more tomorrow.

Vader is coming. Look busy.

Or so my t-shirt says.

I like my fun shirts.

I find them humorous.

Anecdotal even.

And I sort of collect them.

And pens.

Random, I'm aware. But I'm a writer. And I use them as story references. Brands and places and all that.

It's amazing what can bring inspiration when you're in the darkest of writer's block holes.

We saw Snow White and the Huntsman tonight.

But, I can't take Kristen Stewart seriously, so I kept cracking up at all the serious stuff.

And then Squirt started cracking up. And pretty sure Oldest Sister was like, what are you doing? I'm watching a movie here.

But I couldn't help it!

"Use me as your weapon" and something about iron melting, I couldn't do it.

Though I will give it a 5/10 on the Scale of Awesome purely for Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth.

Cause they rock.

Though not exactly faithful to the original fairy tale. Missed the whole red-hot iron shoes dance 'til your dead thing.

I have a weird sort of thing for original fairy tales. Charles Perrault's mostly.

Anyway, it kept me intrigued so it wasn't all bad.

Though Squirt says it seemed like I cheered when she was cursed.

Is it bad to root for the even witch?

I mean, I played one in high school.

No, I wasn't an evil witch, I actually played one in high school. One Act, senior year we did "Briar Rose" I was the 13th Fairy, aka Maleficent. And I was pissed cause I got passed over for godmother.

So I got to yell lines while being completely surrounded by a human forest. And knitting a babysweater.

You know how hard it is to knit a babysweater when you don't know what you're doing and you can't look down at what you're doing cause you have to project your voice to the audience?

It ended up as a square. That wasn't really a square. Purple. With big holes. So I gave it to SuperHumann for Christmas. She was the director. I think she found it amusing.

Anyway, Snow White, it wasn't awful, though I don't think I'll watch it again.

I kept waiting for Thor to reach for his hammer, or Charlize Theron to whip out a gun and go all serial killer on them.

She did get an Oscar for that. She's got the evil thing down.

Speaking of evil things, dude. Chuck season five.

Finished it.

Hated it.

You can't end it like that?!?! Where the heck did that storyline come from? Seriously?!

That just ticks me off.

There's a reason I don't like watching the ends of my favorite series', they always go to crap. Women's Murder Club, Charmed, Gilmore Girls, Will and Grace, Cashmere Mafia, there's never been a "goes out in peace" kind of thing. I mean, they go out, in maybe what the writers think is peace, or they get cancelled and there's no peace. But there's never really peace for fans.

Especially with that one.

My boyfriend says I watch too much TV.

Maybe he's right. But really, when you work public service for 8 hours and then you come home, how else are you supposed to relax, really? I mean, I write a lot as well.

But as a late it's been nothing but camp and homework, so really, not as much TV watching.

It's only gonna get worse, I have homework assignments for both Tuesday and Thursday plus class again already on Saturday. I've got camp applications coming in by the bundle, I still gotta get in touch with Dallas about T-shirts and start lining up all that stuff.

I have some of the skits, but nothing in concrete as of yet. They're constantly changing and really aren't final until the time they're performed. I'm always getting different numbers for kids and then when they're there if they don't like it then we change stuff, it's a mess.

Plus I have two stories from a friend I'm in the middle of editing, I need to finish one and soon.

And the freakin' song book still isn't formatted and that's a major priority.

What was I saying? Oh yeah TV, I won't be watching as much in the coming month, if any at all. The homework assignments don't look too intense or awful, it's just that there's a lot of them, and no real break since it's a month straight instead of just once a month and an assignment every couple weeks.

Kinda like college again, and actually not sure how I'm going to handle taking three classes in the fall plus work 40 hours plus pull grad assistant duties.

A little nervous about that.

But it'll only be August-April. Maybe May.

I can handle that.

I think.

I hope.

Guess we'll see.

At least camp will be over with for the year. Well, it never officially ends cause there's always stuff to do, especially with the new website. Which reminds me I gotta send that dude and e-mail to talk to him about software.

AHHH!!

Gonna go nutso.

But the kickoff is over with. So that's a weight off my mind.

One day at a time. Or a week anyway.

This week the boyfriend comes back from California, yay, so seeing him is a big priority, and homework, and work-work, and some family stuff. Think I got it mapped out pretty well. And if I don't I'll make it up as I go along.

As of now I'm going to bed. At work all day tomorrow and then gotta do some massive homework so I'll be free for the rest of the week to hang out with the boyfriend. And attempt to go to my nephew's game as well. They keep dominating. First week they won 24-1, last week it was 25-0, I'm wondering about tomorrow's game.

And Squirt won all her volleyball games from the not-tournament. But I guess there's more upcoming, should be fun.

Songs of the day:

"You Got It" Roy Orbison

trippy.

"Wooly Bully" Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs

what's with the random chicks just standing there? i LOVE the voice crack at 2:01. awesome.

Tomorrow's Word of the Day: "Nimfadoro: an effeminate fellow, especially one who is well-dressed and popular with women."

should be a fun one.

though it reminds me of harry potter and tonks.

alright, out for the night.

Saturday, June 2, 2012

shake your groove thing, shake your groove thing, yeah, yeah.

First Children's Lit class today.

Flashbacks to college Children's Lit with Serck.

Next up, read a bunch of Golden Sower nominees and add them to goodreads.com profile.

The website is pretty cool, and addicting so you should check it out.

And it's free.

Leaving at 7 this morning wasn't fun, but I stopped for coffee and stayed awake the whole time.

Which is more than I can say for now, I'm falling asleep as I type.

So I'll keep this short.

The Library Goddess was abundantly pleased for me to bring her one as well, but I have her order memorized. Large Iced Latte, no flavor.

After four hour of Children's Lit, basically four hours of discussion on literacy, I headed home to eat leftover burrito stuff and I was gonna take a nap but I watched "Hugo" and "Boondock Saints" instead. I'll give them both 6/10.

Intrigued, but not going to watch them again anytime soon.

Sasha Baron Cohen in a serious role just weirded me out.

I'm used to hating him, not rooting for him.

It was humorous to see Chloe Moretz her go from Carolyn Collins to sweet and innocent what's her name.

I'm debating whether I want to pre-order Dark Shadows the original series. It's pretty expensive off Amazon but I think it'd be worth it. I'm all for cheesy movies, especially at camp. But probably not this one for camp.

I definitely want the soundtrack, it's fantastic.

Stoked to have today and tomorrow off. Will most likely be church and then nap time.

I got some camp stuff done today too so was pretty functional and all that.

That's a weird word.

Was pretty productive, yeah let's go with productive.

Did I mention I was sleeping?

The boyfriend is off in California 'til next week. Lucky, I'm stoked for Vegas. Checking out some books and all that, find hotspots. Should be fun.

Alright, I'm aware this is lame, but I'm gonna konk out with my big fat cat.

Maybe eat some Lucky Charms.

Cause they rock.

"Shake Your Groove Thing" Peaches and Herb

this song reminds me of two TV references. That 70's Show and Mike and Molly.
it was that 70's musical which was hilarious, and then the mom's boyfriend from M&M said something about it being the same peaches but herb number four so they should dig up her yard.

yes, i'm lame. i'll make up for it tomorrow. out!
