Holy crap I hit the 100,000 view mark.

Should really start posting more, I don't feel like I've earned it.

But I'm on it!

No idea how I went from every day to like twice a month, that's madness, madness I tell you!

Let's start with the zombie apocalypse.

There's this new patron at work whom I have amusing conversations with when she comes in. She said she was thinking about the zombie apocalypse and who from her work she would choose to have on her team. She said probably no one would pick her to be on their team but it was her fantasy so she was automatically included.

It got me thinking about the zombie apocalypse and what would happen if I was stuck at the library when it began.

I think we'd have an awesome team. I mean, we're smart people.

And I don't say that to be an ass, most of us do have advanced degrees, granted none of them in killing zombies, but still, we have the smarts to learn how to.

And plenty of reading material on it - have you checked out the young adult area lately? Tons of books on surviving the zombie apocalypse.

And because we've got brains on our side we'll figure out how to set things like booby traps (you'd be surprised by what you'd find in our basement) and strategize for an endgame.

Because of our collection of books, DVDs, and CD's we have plenty of entertainment to last us years. Plus access to the internet and lots of comfortable seating areas.

But I ain't sleeping in the sick room bed. I'll sleep on the floor before I'll do that. And actually have, in the basement, in the periodical stacks. Set an alarm to wake myself 15 minutes later, huzzah for breaks.

Anyway, because of our location we have great proximity to both food and booze. And the Walgreens around the corner for extra supplies.

And we have a security guard with a carrying permit whose job it would be to not only guard the place, but take teams out to bring supplies back.

So we do have some muscle.

Plus it's a library so if we were open when it happened we'd be joined by people with a variety of different skills.

I'd want Wordie on my team. He's a badass.

The only problem with our locale is the glass windows. We'd have to do something about that. Board them up with old shelves I supposed. There's plenty of those in the basement.

Yes, these are the thoughts that we have at work. Anything to add comrades?

So there's that.

What else?

I've started eating lunch in the basement with the Queen of the Known Universe.

We find it amusing because we sit on the same side of the table and in front of us there's this big screen like we're waiting for a movie to start or something. Though she's usually reading or on her computer and I'm either playing hearts or sudoku on my ipod.

Oh, got a couple of Scale of Awesome's for you.

I finally saw The Matrix.



Well, I shouldn't say finally saw, I should say finally completed watching - I did see about 2 minutes of the beginning with my cousins before I fell asleep cause it was like 3AM when we started it back in the 90's.

I remembered none of it and asked the boyfriend a million questions as it went on.

Was totally grossed out by the pod scene, but the rest was pretty bitchin', giving this one a 9/10 on the Scale of Awesome.

We now have to watch the rest of the series. Luckily I gave him the trilogy on blu-ray for Christmas.

Also, on the opposite of the movie spectrum, though I guess not completely since this one did involve time travel so it was sort of sci-fi-ish but really not...you've got About Time.



Not as good, but really from the preview I wasn't expecting much. Scale of Awesome puts that one around 5/10. Had its moments, but they were few and far between.

Did I mention that Attachments by Rainbow Rowell is like an 11/10 on the Scale of Awesome? If you have no idea what I'm talking about scroll down, it's basically all I talked about in the last two entries. Did you hear her YA book Eleanor and Park is gonna be made into a movie?

I've started a new novel in an effort to give myself space from Beth, Jennifer and Lincoln, it's called The Martian by Andy Weir. About a man stranded on mars. It's funnier than it sounds. But I'm not far enough into it to give it a fair rating really so I'll skip that for now.

I'm also doing a ton of editing, which is always a 10/10, and why is it that whenever I watch something with an accent - even if it's just a clip - that for the next few hours I can only talk in that accent?

Like this entire post since that About Time clip has been written in a British accent.

I'm aware you don't see it that way, but perhaps now you'll read it that way.

Crimony. Moving on.

Life Size Game Day is coming up on Saturday so I finished my final preparations and actually went up to 4th to visualize it. I think I found a way for all three games to coexist. We're playing Candyland, Scrabble and Angry Birds. Gonna be an interesting afternoon. But only if people show up. Otherwise it'll be lame.

Apparently I have no life when the boyfriend gets sick because I went to bed at 9:30 last night. For serious, I woke up at 11:30 and went what the crap? It actually worked? And fell immediately back to sleep.

Oldest Sister would call me a panty-waste for going to bed that early so I'm pushing for at least 10 tonight.

Oh look, I've made it.

Thinking about turning on some Whose Line and crashing early again.

Last night it was the NC vs. Stanford game. Go trees. But UConn is gonna dominate.

Is that really their mascot, the tree? I guess I can't really talk cause I'm a Cornhusker fan.

To be fair we used to be the bug-eaters so it has slightly improved.

oh and if you're wondering about the title of this post - one of our regular patrons is a deaf gentleman. one day he needed quarters. as i do not know how to sign we had a lovely conversation on a slip of paper at the end of which he told me i was a nice lady. i took the slip and put it in the back of my nametag. the zombie apocalypse lady asked about said slip and i explained. on the way out she said that over her shoulder.

So today was suckish.

Morning started out bad.

Afternoon I felt like I was gonna fall over.

Just nauseous and tired. And was burning up earlier. And my coworkers felt weird today too so I'm interested to see how we feel tomorrow.

Tonight I had absolutely no motivation to do anything of substance whatsoever cause I still feel like I'm gonna fall over.

But the difference between falling over at work and falling over here is that here I have a nice couch to fall upon.

And then just not get up from until I have to let the pizza delivery dude in.

I have no food in my fridge.

And I'm slightly obsessed with these spinach and feta breadsticks, they're fantastic.

Which is saying something because I am the breadstick queen, ask Sketch.

I'll order the pizza but I won't eat it. It's all about the breadsticks.

Plus, for some reason, I'll be starving and then when it gets here I'm not hungry for it at all.

I don't know, I'm weird like that.


So I really don't have a lot to say about today other than it drug on and I'm glad tomorrow is back to a halfday and more practicum work. We'll be on to the men's library, probably for a couple of days, they have about double the material and space than the women's.

I should take before and after shots. I just took after ones for the women's.


Carter is mad at me.

I kicked him off my stomach so I could sit up and post this. He was so happily sleeping on me as we finished Elementary season one.

I'd like to say that I predicted that ending, but I really didn't.

I do like this version's twists and turns, however I also enjoy Benedict Cumberbatch's version of the series as well.

It's hard to choose between the two cause I really like both of the Watson's.

Though I do find it amusing that Sherlock Holmes has been around for decades and it's like all of the sudden he's all over the place media-wise.

You've got Sherlock on BBC, you've got Elementary on CBS, you've got the Robert Downey Jr. movies, and there's also a web based series called No Place Like Holmes in which they are frozen in time and emerge in 2010. Along with many other standalone projects.

I'm wondering what the next big thing will be...

Oooh, they should make a series about Miss Marple. But like younger. That'd be cool.

Alright, those are all my sane-sounding-thoughts and some of my not-so-sane-sounding-ones at the moment.

Feel as if I'm gonna pass out so perhaps if I continue to lay on the couch and it happens I can call it sleep.

Sadly, it wouldn't be the first time.

And yes, for once in my life I have the patience and persistence to follow through with something.

Even if it is just rambling on virtual paper.

I know that is shocking to some people, especially since I was such an introvert when it first started.

Though years of working in public service seems to have changed that.

Which I didn't realize until it was pointed out to me.

I don't even remember how it came up, and I'm sure it's on here somewhere, but I was talking to Joe Studley and I was like, "but I am shy!" and Glee-Loving Boss just appears out of nowhere and goes "since when?!"

Ha! I found it. Go here: "I'll meet you there, I'm gonna go jam out to Gwyneth Paltrow!"

Perfect timing.

But I guess he was right.

And that was 2010, it's only gotten worse now that I'm in charge of stuff.

Speaking of being in charge of stuff, sometimes that sucks.

I had 2 people call me yesterday about volunteer work and another 2 call me today.

Yes, things do pick up in the summer, but not that much.

I have one coming in to train on Tuesday, another on Wednesday and after that I am just out of space.

Cause I already got a new one started last week!

So the suckish part is having to turn people down. Though I usually just direct them to a different branch.

That's the joy about working in a library system.

Getting to go to fun library conferences.

I know, some of you think that's an oxymoron, but I'm actually excited about this next one.

And it has great timing and placement.

Big teen event put on by the SLJ - School Library Journal, it's a magazine - it's basically a big online thing with a bunch of Young Adult authors. They talk about their books and then there's Q&A with the authors.

Gonna be fun, and guess where our session is being hosted!

Anyway, I'm going to the library that just happens to be in his town and it's an all day thing which means I can go out there the night before and bring my cat with me cause the week after that IS CAMP J!!

I'm sure my mother is thrilled to read about that.

She just loves watching my cat while I'm gone.

But he likes the farmhouse.

And he doesn't bite there cause dad will stick him outside with the mean outdoor cats.

Plus he loves his grandma.

She hates it when I call her that.

But then she gives him Christmas presents and signs them "from grandma" so she really brings it on herself.

Today was boring as the library was dead.

Came home and watched the rest of Doc Martin season two.

I'm liking it.

Mostly because it has Ash in it from Murder in Suburbia - Catherine Catz - but also because the doctor is just so rude and oblivious to all that's going on around him, it's highly entertaining.

"The Baker. The Colonel. Do these people have no names?!"

Anyway, grumpy doctor, used to be a successful surgeon suddenly can't stand the sight of blood, moves to a tiny town and becomes their general practitioner.

But it's hysterical, you should check it out.

Just finished season two, will have to request season three.

Think we have at least though season 5 at the library. At least I hope so.

Gotta love library DVD's.

Gonna put in another now as I fall asleep.

Though I'm exhausted - have been all day - so I won't last long.

I've learned that there is no such thing as a normal day. Or a normal schedule. Every day is different, or turns out different than planned. I like it, it keeps things fresh. I'll never get bored. That's new.

So, the awesome weekend-o-relaxation is over and it's back to work for me. Today was sort of a random schedule, 9-10 as one thing 10-11 as another 11-12 back to the first thing then 3-8 as the second thing. Fun times. But the weekend was worth it, got to see the BFF and catch up - she puts up with all my crap, what more could I ask for really? Plus got to watch a lot stuff I had checked out which is good cause everything comes at once so it's been building up.

Tonight is Castle - "Richard Castle you are neither trained nor professional" - I love that Lanie is a soap opera junkie, that's fantastic. Yikes, special guest star central! Was that Jane Seymore?!
Tomorrow I'll catch up on the rest aka Harry's Law, Glee and all that - if it's new, I'm behind on life, woops. Will look it up tomorrow.
