This is geopolitics, not couples therapy.

So apparently Omaha is going to the Superbowl.

Which makes me feel obligated to cheer for the Broncos.

If that makes sense.

Apparently he calls the play "Omaha" a lot and people from Nebraska are going nuts and giving a bunch of money to charity every time he yells it.

It's kind of a big deal.

Not that I was big fan of Seattle, but I can honestly say I have never before cheered for the Broncos and it will be a totally new experience.

Broncos were my ex's team, if you couldn't figure that out.

I was always more of a Titans girl, but they sucked it up this year so they had no chance.

Current boyfriend really doesn't give a crap about pro football, or college really just the Huskers, so I don't even know if we'll watch it. We did last year for the commercials.

But I'm pretty sure at least 70% of the viewers only do watch it for the commercials.

Don't give me that look, you're probably one of them.

Anyway, it'll be interesting for sure.

And I guess Nebraska was gonna be featured anyway since we made that Pepsi commercial.

Look it's Bruce Lee.

Or Lee Brice, sorry Sketch.

I think if I say it enough times she'll get mad enough to drive all the way down here just to smack me.

From Illinois.

Anyway, they filmed it here in like 15 degree weather so... looking forward to seeing that finished product.

Whatever, what else?

I'm jamming at the farmhouse. Going back at some point tomorrow cause we got the hockey game tomorrow night.

Slept in this morning, ate good food, watched some TV, just jammed out. It was nice to get away from everything for a couple of days.

Mom and I watched some Castle, Major Crimes, and Hollywood Game Night.

I about had a heart attack when I realized both Alyssa Milano and Paget Brewster were on in the same episode, though on opposing teams. Which sucked. Alyssa won, btw. And next week is Angie Harmon. Which means my screams will be louder and more frequent. Perhaps I should prepare the neighbors.

I'm a nerd, get used to it.

And then Lola Glaudini - aka Elle Greenaway - was on Castle, another Criminal Minds alum. Gotta love it. Though I guess Paget is coming back for the 200th cause JJ got kidnapped. Which means I may have to actually watch that one.

I'm way behind.

But I was lazy today. To be fair I was more active yesterday. Work then out with the boyfriend. We saw Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

It was alright. Interesting seeing the director play the bad guy. Scale of Awesome says 6/10. It would have been better if the guy behind us stopped talking and the guy in front of us got off Facebook.

For serious.

That's really all I remember about yesterday.

No wait, the cops were called cause of a drunk guy.

And this other guy continues to follow me around.

More on that later.

I'm zonked. Gonna crash. Hope you all had an awesome holiday.

Song of the Day:

Your Woman - White Town

one of my favorite songs from the 90's. which makes me sad cause the boyfriend had never heard of it. i can't believe i haven't posted this recently, i've heard it over and over.

if you don't know, become educated, it is wicked.

and i'm out.

Oh, did anyone watch SNL? Loving the new girl! Drake wasn't bad either.

Friday, January 10, 2014

"You look like hell." "I look like college."

Finally watched Man of Steel.

Scale of Awesome says 6/10.

I love comic book movies, but I'm not really a big Superman fan. Plus the fight scenes in this one seemed eternal.

I know they need to be epic, but they ended up just dragging on.

Now I'm on to Lost Girl.

SyFy series.

Reminds me of Blood Ties.

Private Eye, quirky goth sidekick, focus investigations on the supernatural...

But no vampires so far.

Oh, and they're both Canadian series.

Hm.

This one's pretty fun, but I think I liked Blood Ties a little better.

However, I'm only like a disc in so that could change.

I'm so excited for this weekend.

I'm off. And I have no homework or projects hanging over my head so I can legitimately sleep in and watch movies without feeling guilty.

Plus there's a hockey game tomorrow night.

Gonna be awesome.

That's all I got. Don't really remember anything about work.

Other than sending a guy to jail.

Oh yeah.

Dude from the incident yesterday came in and I recognized him so we called the cops who picked him up.

Never boring at the library.

Clip of the Day:

Kenzi-isms

Go Method or Go Home.

She reminds me of the awesomeness that is Allison Scagliotti in Warehouse 13.

yep. definitely a resemblance.

out!

You have failed this city.

Today was just weird.

There are no other words that better describe it.

It started out normal enough. Staff meeting. Worked the lab desk. Went to lunch.

But it was the afternoon that changed all that.

First, I got to scoop snow outside the building.

Master's Degree and all.

No, it was fine, I didn't mind it. I did stuff like that all the time when I was at the home branch, but the problem with doing stuff like that at the work branch is because of our location there are people everywhere.

And these people feel the need to commentate.

Some of them on bicycles, circling the block and on every pass they make fun of you more.

The hour after that was spent playing Mad Scientist in the backroom.

aka mixing chemicals and adding labels to bottles.

Don't worry, it's just cleaning stuff we use to get the gunk off stuff.

After that things got even weirder.

Massive incident report.

Some dude attacked the security guard.

Can't exactly repeat the details, but it was ridiculous.

Cops called and all that.

Girlscout and I had front row seats.

Oh the joys.

Like I said, weird.

So I came home and escaped the weird - minus the robot vacuum running in the background.

I'm pretty sure I got the dumb one.

It vacuums but it runs into everything in the process.

It's actually amusing to watch, but Carter hates it.

I'm back to Arrow. Last disc, after which I'll have to catch the rest online.

It's actually really good, if you haven't watched it you should check it out.

There's a TON of back story that it basically has to spoon feed you, but it's really good.

And that's all I got for today.

Yes, I'm becoming one of those comic book movie/tv show nerds.

The boyfriend likes DC best.

I'm torn, cause Marvel is good too.

Red is one of my favorite movies of all time, but how can you pass by the Avengers?

I like them both. I have enough t-shirts to prove it.

Okay, on to the clip of the day.

I love dumb commercials. Especially when they're narrated.

I miss this show. Used to watch it almost every night in college. Pretty sure Sketch was tired of it, but I loved it. Almost makes me want to order an extended Dish package. Hmm...

Here, maybe these are better.

i'm sorry but 1:28 is epic. and 7:12. and 7:37. and 8:17. and 8:20.

and i'm out.

legit pre-midnight, holy crap tag in use.

four italian suits, three former husbands...

Ah Christmas 2012.

An interesting adventure.

As previously mentioned I spent Christmas Eve with the boyfriend's family. Christmas Day I spent with his extended family.

But this was after our traditional Mom, Dad and myself Christmas. In which we got a bunch of snacks and random stuff.

Like ice melt.

And a furby.

It's purple and pretty and Carter will hate it.

I splurged on mom this year. Which she will realize after New Years but she says her favorite present was this massive book of sudoku's.

Is is sudoku or suduko?

I say suduko but I think it's actually supposed to be sudoku.

Oh well.

Anyway, so I got a lot for her and I got dad some music DVD's cause the ones he has he watches repeatedly and then makes other people watch them with him.

Meaning if he likes the Johnny Cash one I gave him or the other one he'll open next week it'll be my own fault.

Which I can't say about Moonshiners.

Swamp People perhaps, but not Moonshiners.

Never Moonshiners.

Run if you hear the word "Moonshiners".

Mom and I attempted but didn't get far.

Yet another one of his boondock reality shows.

I should keep a tally.

First there was Swamp People, then Big Shrimping, now there's Ax Men and Duck Dynasty...

I'm sure by the time I come home this weekend there will be more.

Anyway, so there were some small gifts and a VACUUM, woohoo! - shutup, it was on my list - and some spiced tea and then they were off to church and I was off to the boyfriend's to head out to see the extended family.

Every year they do something similar to ours where all the extended family gets together, eats a lot of food, does a gift exchange and then play cards.

It was an interesting adventure. He has even more family than me which is saying something cause I've got 20 cousins on one side and 11 on the other. But both of his parents have 7 siblings so at this one gathering there were 44 people all together in a room.

And of course the second I walk through the door everyone stops talking and goes, ummm.... introductions?

So I'm his girlfriend.

Which I'm aware of.

But it's nice to hear every once in a while.

He said some names but there are a lot of them and really we just jammed with his brother and sister-in-law.

Whom I love, they're fantastic. His sister and future brother-in-law were with the B-I-L's family, otherwise we would have jammed with them as well.

I was nervous but it wasn't that bad. I walked away with a bottle of Rumchata and he ended up with a cooler filled with redneck beer.

Courtesy of his brother.

We didn't stay for the cards. Our original plan was to head back to the farmhouse for a while to see my parents and then go see Les Mis at 10 but ended up crashing instead.

Not the car.

Crashing from exhaustion.

We did make it to the farm cause I had to get my stuff. Dad forced some reality TV on him and we took a tour of the shop - he has a building in his building.

He's painting a building in his building.

Cause the shop is heated.

He's cannibalizing an old building. They moved it from my brother's place - aka my grandpa's old place - to Dad's shop to be painted and then moved to yet another location.

I'm guessing behind the quonset.

Anyway, after the TV and the tour we packed up my stuff and headed back to the apartment to drop stuff off and the thoughts of Les Mis disappeared and we konked out instead.

Since I had to work this morning and left at 8 he slept in and brought me my keys around noon.

I know, now he's been in both the home branch and the work branch.

Shocking.

Queen of Awesome has met him twice and I'm gonna get so much crap tomorrow from Queen of the Known Universe cause she wasn't around when he came in.

But neither was Slim Shady.

She's ditching me.

I can say that now as it is official.

Which is a total bummer.

First Fearless Leader now Slim Shady.

What's going on with the youth of the library?

Who's next, the New Guy?

Even the chick that got hired the same day I did quit. And we were like the same age.

Anyway, I'm bummed but it's bittersweet for her.

It was nice to see the new AD in action today taking tours and all that. She was my professor I bonded with this semester joking about Koha and all that. The one that let us out early every session?

Anyway hired by the Library Goddess is awesome.

I say as she is my boss.

See how that works?

Anyway, she's great and she'll do great things as AD.

There was a lot going on today since we were closed for two days.

Some interesting stuff but mostly just a single incident was interesting.

An interesting encounter with a patron who claimed I said she could do stuff when I said she wasn't in fact allowed to do so and thankfully I had people there as witnesses, it was a mess.

But whatever, it's over.

The rest of the day flew by. Literally I looked at the clock and it was 5PM.

I think I got about 15 calls in an hour to renew books.

That was fun.

And I stopped by the home branch after work at the work branch cause I checked out a DVD at the home branch when I was there and then proceeded to leave it there.

Woops.

Game of Thrones.

Checking it out previously but never got around to watching it.

Will make more of an effort this time around.

And then after that Oldest Sister talked me into downloading Snapchat.

Which is like text messaging except it's with pictures.

She and Squirt were having far too much fun with it.

But I don't take pictures of myself, I mostly take stuff of stuff around me and since Carter is at the farmhouse - I know I'm super sad he's not here to sleep on my stomach but he likes the farm - it's Richard Castle or random stuff I write down.

Speaking of Castle, I read over last year's Day 12, interestingly enough Mom and I watched Castle again this year. Though last year it was season three, this year it was season four.

Alright, that's enough rambling. On to day 12 of the 12 days of non-sucking Christmas music.

Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck: Day Twelve

So I'm breaking all of my rules about consecutive postings and giving you the exact songs from last year because they're my favorites.

And get used to it cause you'll get the same next year.

If you were around last year it's no surprise that day twelve is The Twelve Days of Christmas.

It's the only song I can say is my favorite even though I hate the original.

Literally, if it weren't for Relient K I wouldn't be able to tell you the actual items given to me by my true love.

Cause I grew up on parodies.

So, here are my favorite parodies along with the Relient K cover.

Indian 12 Days of Christmas by boymongoose

and a totally insufficient dowry

Mashup version by Straight No Chaser

thanks Sensei.

Redneck Christmas by Jeff Foxworthy

classic

Rock version by Relient K

this one plays on my ipod no matter the season

and my personal favorite

Janice Dickinson's modeling version

yep, 1:02 is still my favorite. followed closely by 1:13

The problem with multiple parodies is that whenever I hear an actual version I'll sing a mix of the parodies that goes a little something like this.

12 Pack of Bud
11 Charges pending
10 Minute yoga
9 Years probation
8 Table Dancers
7-11 Workers
6 Cans of Spam
5 Flannel Shirts
4 Italian Suits
3 Former Husbands
2 Giant Breasts
and a totally insufficient dowry.

For last year's day twelve go here: And a totally insufficient dowry.

I do have one more Christmas song to post but I'm saving it for after our family Christmas on the 1st.

Alright, that's enough out of me.

Hope you all had an awesome holiday.

"Stop licking the carpet!!"

She screams helplessly at Carter after spilling food all over the floor.

Woops.

Disaster.

It was one of those days, seriously.

Two incident reports in two days. Yesterday's was weird enough. Banned dude comes in not knowing he's banned, makes a computer reservation, realizes that we're looking at him and have called the guard then walks back passed the desk wearing a ski mask thing.

Master of disguise.

Then today this chick comes up to the counter asking us to call an ambulance. Something about her hand though she was a bit unsteady on her feet. EMT's show up and go talk to her.

EMT: "How much have you had to drink today?"
Chick: "Not enough, why are you buying?"

The joys of public service.

But don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade the library for anything.

It's just never boring.

Anyway, so there was that hysteria.

And the fact that they actually let Slim Shady and I work together. Which happens maybe once a month. And this time they were desperate cause it was in red.

Then I had my TAB meeting this afternoon, supervisor sat in, but it was a good one for her to be there. The kids actually stayed on task! No, we actually got a lot accomplished.

Planned out our holiday party for Saturday and picked out the activities they'll be leading for the Summer Reading kickoff.

After work jammed out with the boyfriend for a few hours, watching movies. But then he had to work. Which sucks.

Notice how loving I am that I didn't force him to watch The Voice?

Even though it was the semi-finals?

And Cassadee Pope's fate was in the air?

PS - stoked that she's safe but totally depressed that Trevin got the boot. He seriously could have won the whole thing. Think his song choice screwed him over. Or the bad notes at the end. Either way it's suckish that he's toast. And I like Nicholas, he's got a certain flair to him. Very actual real-life dude, but I still can't believe he beat out Trevin.

But Cassadee and Terry are still in it. Way to go Team Blake! Speaking of Team Blake, Raelynn from last year made an appearance along with Team Cee-Lo's Juliet Simms - totally rocked it!! Both with new singles, and Chris Mann as well. Tony Lucca made an appearance with Adam so that makes 3 finalists plus Jermaine who was on the show a couple weeks ago. Wonder if they'll come back next week.

Was a little random that Raelynn came back to sing and Tony did not. But I guess she has a single and he does not.

Co-written by two other Voice contestants from last year.

Anyway, Cassadee and Terry rocked it and I'm stoked they're both moving on. Hopefully Cassadee will win the whole thing as my number 1. Make up for the fact that Jordis got kicked out far too early last year.

Sorry, rambling and you don't care.

Next week is the finals. Big potatoes. That's all.

Song of the night:

Two artists that Nicholas beat out who could have easily won this competition.

Shocking we lost them in the quarter and semi-finals.

OUT!

Friday, August 17, 2012

That's not it either.

Weirdest of days.

It started out fine, met up with the library goddess to talk scheduling over a cup of coffee that she totally bought, she rocks. Was relaxed and all that afterward, then 2:05 hit and I was helping this lady find a book in the biography section - totally normal - except on my way out I see this plastic bag so I lean over and see it's got like bottles of shampoo and conditioner in it.

Since it's a weird thing and I didn't want to touch it I naturally called the guard.

Cause apparently that's what everyone does when they don't want to touch something.

Well, that or Colliers.

Anyway, called the guard, he came up and when I leaned over to grab the bag I noticed that there were other things under the surrounding shelves.

Here's a list of things we found under the surrounding shelves:

-Bag of fresh tomatoes
-Box of donuts
-2 Twinkies still in their wrappers, only slightly smashed
-Empty bottles of shampoo and conditioner
-Glass cleaner
-Old Spice deodorant

And since we ran into Superwoman on the way downstairs I got the pleasure of writing an incident report about it.

I await commentary that I'm sure I'll read when I go in on Sunday.

So there was that, then I discovered that BossLady doesn't like rootbeer.

And neither does Queen of the Known Universe.

But Rootbeer, especially rootbeer floats are like a staple in America. It's like apple pie, baseball or the national anthem. You know?

Inbody-ism: "Some dums" as in some of the dum-dums are rootbeer flavored, while some of the dums are chocolate flavored. Apparently she was sad when what she thought was chocolate was actually rootbeer and it scarred her for life.

After work I met up with the boyfriend and we drove over to the stadium for our annual August birthdays Saltdogs game. Basically it's myself, the boyfriend, and my siblings - sans children - and we go and eat and drink and cheer and dance and basically humiliate ourselves but have fun while we're doing it.

You can find last year's entry here: Extra Innings Victory I don't remember it going to overtime but I guess it did. We did tonight as well, but they lost after the other team scored one and they couldn't come back.

And then Oldest Sister's entry about it here: A Family Tradition

So we were still loud and obnoxious but there wasn't as much dancing as usual. That's okay, we made up for it with interesting conversation.

Including the quotes of the night:

-A big pickle doesn't go well with beer.

-Always be yourself, unless you can be a unicorn. Then always be a unicorn.

-PCPA - principle commander of what now? camp stuff

-Usually I wait 'til 5th of 6th inning but I'm in dire need for some dip-n-dots. she did make it to like inning number 5 at least. and that's only cause her husband got them for her. We discussed having a "text the loudspeaker" option so you could have him announce, "Hey, make that a large fry!" Would be awesome.

-But here's my lover, so call me maybe. *Bek Kate's version of but here's my number so call me maybe*

-Makes more sense to yell 'dogs' *instead of charge since they are the saltdogs*

-Schweddy balls? Sounds delicious. *yes it is an actual icecream flavor and i was forced to google it cause they didn't believe me. I don't know how we got there, someone started in on SNL stuff. Go here: B&J new flavor  *

-I'm glad you're my brother cause you'd make a really ugly sister. *birthday card which reminds me i need to send mine*

-Did you say scrip? Yeah, 15% of that goes to nelhs! *you don't want to know, let's just say what happens in vegas stays in vegas*

-Bahoobies *apparently "bajoingas" isn't the only term in use by our family. this came from 3 year old abby cadabra after trying on her sister's swimsuit. i like it and it's going to stick. Repetition made me want to do a facebook search to see if the guy on facebook in front of us put his status as "what the hell is a bahoobie?" as we started yelling it as a battle cry, did i mention there was liquor involved?*

now everytime i think of that word i do this:

More on that later.

Other interesting observances:

-Oldest Sister bought a bag of cotton candy all for herself, a few rows down a kid - maybe like 2 - sits facing her and stared at her as she ate it. Apparently, she has become accustomed to that because she has a dog that begs for scraps, so she basically just sat there staring at him and proceeded to eat it all. that's just mean.

-Someone in the box seats brought a fishnet and stuck it out the window when there was a foul ball. "That's just lazy." cause he missed so it was okay.

-We are deciding on our theme for trivia night, go here: Hey, I got flax! But it's in January so we still got time. We're leaning toward That 70's Show. I would be Donna cause I have the red hair which makes the boyfriend Eric Foreman. Since Oldest Sister is the mother of the group she'd be Kitty, sister-in-law would be Jackie, brothers-in-law would be Hyde and Michael, Second Sister would be FES, and brother would be Red.

Should be fun.

Anyway, so when we discussed that Oldest Sister should be Kitty she did the laugh. You remember the laugh from above, right?

But then she tried to do it again later and failed epically. So we all tried it and failed as well, saying "That's not it" after each attempt. I told them I'd go home, record it and send it to them and they'd send me back, "That's not it either."

Pretty sure I nailed the :02 one, though toward the end it was more like the :28.

Then it got all quiet and Second Sister and I busted out laughing at the exact same time.

Other things I learned:

-Apparently no one has seen the Evolution of Dance video because they don't know the "Tonto" dance

-Staying away from the giftshop means less money spent on random shirts that I wear maybe 3 times a year.

-There is such thing as too much dough in a pretzel.

Check out these sweet moves.

dig it.

"Go get your groove on somewhere else."

You know, I've heard a lot of excuses from patrons about breaking the rules.

But today's excuse was brand new.

There are a lot of situations that happen at the library that would make for really great sketches on SNL.

The New Girl and I have discussed this. We should just forward them some of our incident reports.

This incident didn't really warrant one, but still.

Guy was hitting on a chick in the lab.

The New Guy told him he couldn't be in the lab if he wasn't signed up to use a computer.

He followed him out and rambled on about him being free to do whatever and all that. "I was just getting my groove on..."

The New Guy was strong, he's a good supervisor.

I would have completely lost it at that point.

Wordie was there to witness it - as he always is.

I was on the phone but overheard the majority of the conversation so I didn't get to comment until after he had left.

Me: "I'm sorry, did he just tell you he was 'getting his groove on' in the lab?"
The New Guy: "Yeah, go get your groove on somewhere else."
Wordie: "You gotta leave your groove outside, inside you gotta be smooth."

He's a poet.

"Too mellow to be one fellow, should've been a dozen."

It's just little stuff like that that makes my day.

That and being semi-productive, even for a Sunday.

Heard back from my college professor today. I took Criminology in college and since the theme for teens summer reading stuff is going to be a night theme I asked about some of the presenters that came and spoke to us. She gave me some tips, I e-mailed them, now I just gotta wait to hear back.

Woohoo! Progress!

After work I headed back to my college town to babysit for Second Sister's children. We jammed at the house, played some Kirby on the wii, watched some Tom and Jerry. They're cute like that.

Even got soup out of the deal. She always makes homemade stuff - our grandma used to make the noodles and there would be so many of them that she had them like hanging off the backs of chairs cause all the tables were already covered with them.

We ate soup for weeks.

Then I got to drive back in the snow and only almost died twice, woohoo!

You know, there are few times in which taking the road untraveled is unwise.

Driving through unplowed snow is one of them.

I'm stoked I don't have to deal with it again until tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully by then the roads will be cleared.

Speaking of tomorrow, totally need to get started on all that homework stuff.

The first assignment isn't huge, but will be time consuming. Analyze three catalogs and compare and contrast under specific categories.

After that I gotta figure out this whole article thing, we're all supposed to find one or present one or I don't know, my brain is fried when I think about all the confusion that's going to take place in my near-distant future.

Music Rec's

I would post "groove is in the heart" to go with today's excitement but I just did that a few weeks ago.

I'll hit you with a classic.

"Rock'n Me" Steve Miller Baby

they look fantastic live. but they've got years of practice.

and one that's been in my head.

"Everything's Just Wonderful" Lily Allen

i call this one the "Grocery Store Song" cause the melody sounds like something you'd hear in the background while shopping. or riding an elevator. or something. but then the lyrics totally thwart that. love it.

Carter and I are gonna jam out, watch some TV then crash.

keep on rock'n me baby...keep on rock'n me baby...keep on rock'n baby...keep on rock'n me baby, baby baby baby...

Let's Go To The Hop

There are no words to describe today.

Well, maybe a few.

But they are of the four letter variety.

And they weren't said by me. Just crazies who yell them in the library.

It was a day for incident reports.

Serious serious serious incident reports.

Seriously.

Like, I've been followed to the cash register, I've been hit on by old ladies, I've been slipped phone numbers by homeboys that call me "shortie" and all that crap, but today just...

I was creeped out.

Literally creeped out.

Have you ever seen that episode of Grey's Anatomy when Meredith is on morphine for her appendectomy? And George and Finn and McDreamy are all there and she looks at Bailey and says, "All my boyfriends are here!" all dreamily.

I said that today.

But instead of boyfriends it was "All my stalkers are here!" I did my best Meredith on morphine imitation.

As I hid in the back room.

First, this drunk dude comes up to me at the desk, tells me he doesn't have a card, he doesn't want to look at books, he wants to look at me. Then asks me for money or something cause he was hungry.

Thank god for John Boy, seriously, knight in shining armor. I took off but the dude followed me.

So yeah, I ran.

To Superwoman.

Which is actually who I run to most of the time when I'm being stalked or feel totally creeped out. Cause she's awesome like that.

Although today when I walked in she was like,
"Wow, you haven't had someone follow you around in a while."
"Yeah, a whole two days, WOOHOO!"

Cause there's serious need for celebration when that lasts longer than 24 hours.

Anyway, then I go back out to the desk where I run into the old lady who searches me out and all that, then the foreign dude who's always hitting on me and talking about my jewelry.

I feel like I should just stop wearing jewelry.

But then I'm sure he would comment on that!

So yes, all my stalkers were there.

Well, most of the current ones.

Yes, there are more than one, and no I'm really not so appreciative of that.

Though, with the New Girl today, we did have fun writing our incident reports.

Mostly because we started singing The Beatles but changed it to "Can't Find Me Love" cause that's what the dude said somewhere amongst his drunken ramblings.

Then just as we were singing it the awesomeness that is Barb walked by, paused, turned around and we just laughed. Busted. Told her she'd understand when she checked her e-mail the next day.

Quote of the day:

Me: "They made a version of that for kids?"
Trainee: "Yeah, they probably have one for dogs too."

gotta love it when an adult book is so popular they put it in kids format and shelve in the jNonfiction. "Heaven Is For Real", that book is freakin' everywhere.

Actually, there are more quotes from today but the majority came from the 2 hour conversation I just had with Sketch and therefore I can't repeat a lot of them...

I had some sort of epiphany and realized that all of my ex-boyfriends hate her. They don't dislike her, they actually hate her.

Not that she doesn't hate them back, so yeah, we were talking about the current boyfriend and I told her she wasn't allowed to threaten his manhood.

Cause I actually like this one.

We'll see how long that lasts.

Songs of the day: Cause you can never go wrong with the classics,

Way Back Wednesday

changing every day, every possible way

"Booze Cakes...sounds like a term of endearment. Hey Booze Cakes."
"That's fantastic."
the joys of training new employees.

Today was mostly filled with paperwork. But I got to spend the majority of it with Girlscout so it was fun. We're Team Awesome.

Joys of professionalism - Wrote up a summary on what you need to know to work at one of the branches since a lot of our people are gone so others are filling in. The summary turned out to be 3 pages. And I keep adding more and more.

After that it was e-mails and scheduling.

And then I ended the day with the joy that is incident and citizen injury reports. But hey, at least I got to check out the cute fire and rescue guys.

"Why are you listening to the serpant?.....Don't eat the fruit....Don't eat the fruit!....Women."

Got 3rd Rock From the Sun season one from Target for like 6 bucks. Loving it. Now I have to find season two. Wonder if the library has it. Or WorldCat. I love WorldCat.

"I'm not mooning, I'm obsessing, there's a difference."

Tomorrow is a day for sleeping. And running errands. And then sleeping some more. Unless of course I get called in. Which would be fine. I don't think I know what to do with myself outside of work nowadays anyway.

"I have class in five minutes. And that's just the first of my reservations."
oh speaking of, I should check the syllabus and figure out if I'm missing something for class on Saturday.

Songs of the night:

"Dreams" The Cranberries

used to listen to them a lot in high school. probably drove juwanna nuts. the joy of roommates at a dorm school. but she did save me from the killer dresser so i love her.

Think this is my favorite though....
"Just My Imagination"

I think Shannen looked a little more coordinated on Dancing With the Stars.
P3 got all the coolest acts at the time - The Cranberries, Michelle Branch, Barenaked Ladies, Goo Goo Dolls, Fastball. Yes, I'm a Charmed nerd, get used to it. It's either this or Drew Barrymore really. I can always throw in a Friends reference if it would make you feel better.

"I fold like a cheap hooker who got slapped in the stomach by a fat guy with sores on his face...oh, I'm out." The one with all the poker. Love that episode. Yes I know it's title. It's not like it's that hard of one to remember.

"Your money's mine, Green!"
"Your fly's open, Gellar!"

OUT!

Little Sisters and Winding Roads.

I should have known, when I started the day off sweeping up broken glass in the back room, that today was going to be crazy.

First off, I thought it was actually Saturday, until I showed up at work and was like, well crap. It's Friday. Not that Friday is bad.

"Hello Cleveland."
"It's Burbank."

It's just I was expecting it to be Saturday. Where I get off at noon. And go to my little sister's wedding. Instead I spent the day in public service - which I love - except for when you have to call the cops and someone ends up in handcuffs.

But I did get to see my friends. And tomorrow I will see even more. When I'm off at 12. And go to my little sister's wedding. Did I mention that it makes me feel really old that my little sister is getting married? Not to be confused with my baby sister. Or my adopted little sister. Yes, there are three of them. And yes, none of them are blood relatives.

I went to a dorm school. Boarding school. Whatever you wanna call it. And no, I'm not "one of those", you know the ones that get shipped off, it was voluntary. And I liked it. Most of it. Freshman year was hard. I was homesick for about a month straight. Okay, that's a lie. Two months. And that part sucked. But everything else was great. I got to live with my friends, got to go to a great school, I had a blast. And I met some great people. One of them was my big sister.

You see, as a Freshman. Well, as a female freshman - pretty sure the guys didn't do this - you get adopted by a senior. They become your big sister. And they watch out for you. I was lucky enough to get two. A real and an adopted big sister. Which is funny, because technically I ended up with 2 reals and an adopted. Who just happened to be my boyfriend at the time's actual younger sister. But that's another story.

Moving on.

They watch out for you. And I was crazy homesick and they were great.

It was a small school. By the time I graduated there were only 25 in our class. And we were the biggest in the school. The class above us was short on kids and short on girls. So, when a new group of freshman girls came up, they were short on big sisters. I was Junior and the dorm mom's approached me about being a big sister. And I jumped at the chance. When I met her, she was one of the shyest girls. And she was homesick. Which is why I was asked to step in. So I did. And I think I did okay.

For Christmas one year she did this 12 days of christmas from a secret admirer thing. I got like a necklace and...sunchips - which didn't last long between me and my roommate - and some pictures and all that. She was fantastic. And I love her. And tomorrow, she gets married.

Which is why I'm feeling super old. Plus my adopted little sister has a big girl job and is moving here. Huzzah for that!

As for the baby sister. She's good. Cute as ever. Promises she'll invite me to her wedding. Totally freaked me out, couple months back she changed her last name on Facebook and I probed her until she explained. Some sort of status thing.

Kids these days.

Geez.

Old.

"Everyday is a Winding Road" Sheryl Crow

So. Tomorrow. Big day. It's gonna be fun. Out.

Thank God the Dog Days Are Over

Today and yesterday were kind of crappy. I told my grad rep why they were crappy, because apparently I like to ramble to people who have nothing to do with the situation but are very supportive, (which suddenly sounds a lot like a blog) And she said, and I quote, "You do more things right than wrong. Your colleagues speak highly of your energy, good ideas and work ethic." Awwwww... right? Totally lying, but I'll take it. She's awesome. Jalapeno Margaritas awesome! Which is like a 10/10 coming from me.
Hmmm... maybe I should make an official "Scale of Awesome". That might be interesting. Like a 7/10 would be the NCIS marathon that was on tv today. They were all seasons 3 and later and although Ziva is awesome I love Sasha Alexander and Kate was my favorite character until they killed her off. So, good episodes but I had seen them all. Which, I guess, makes sense since I own all the seasons. But there were commercial breaks which seriously made me want to pull out the dvds and watch those episodes without them. And usually I do. But today I cleaned instead.
A 5/10 would be the average day - not too awesome but not crappy enough that I want to yell and throw things.
A 3/10 would be today and yesterday because of the incident, but also because it was good day up until that point.
And a -10/10 would be the movie Rushmore. Two hours of my life that I want back. Seriously. I compare all crappy movies to it.

On a different subject, you know, it's amazing how many chores you can get done when you're avoiding doing something else. Like usually, I put off cleaning my apartment. Because it takes forever and I have no motivation unless my mother is coming to visit. Today, after putting it off for weeks, I needed to register for my grad school class. But, since I didn't want to do that because it involved calling the IT people and having them walk me through it, my apartment is now practically spotless. Like, you can actually see the floor, like all of it! My cat walked around meowing like, "whoa? what's going on? what's that big gray loud thing she's pushing around? maybe i should run and hide in the closet." Which he did, so I vacuumed and now it's all pretty. Don't worry, I'm sure it won't last long.

And, because it's been a crappy week so far, I watched Glee and here's the clip of the week. I bought the song on itunes and have had it blasting in my headphones on repeat. I feel it fits my life at this time.

It's reversely screened but it does the trick. Is that a word? Reveresly? I'm making it one. It seems to me that it's the cast singing it as themselves instead of their characters and that it's not really choreographed. Which I loved.
