I could write a blog. I have thoughts.

Life at the library, adventures with friends and other hysterics...

My broom is in the van.

Not to be confused with last year's entry: My Sickle's In The Car

Dressed up as Katniss today with a Hunger Games shirt and mockingjay pin. Was going to braid my hair but I totally don't wake up that early, like ever.

Few other coworkers dressed up. Queen of the Known Universe wore a nice pointy black hat.

She said we were off by a letter but I'll stick with witch.

After work I headed out to see the boyfriend. We got some burgers at Wendy's and watched the rest of a the Bond movie we started last week. Young Christopher Walken complete with a full head of hair.

So pretty laid back day all in all, which was nice.

Though I should really sleep cause I'm meeting with the Library Goddess tomorrow morning before work.

Hurray for coffee shops.

Songs of the day:

Monster Mash - Bobby Boris Pickett
crazy to think this song was originally rejected because they didn't see the appeal.

bet they're wishing they'd thought differently now.

Psycho Killer - Talking Heads
serious face.

and just for kicks

Word Up - Korn

all of my change i spent on you.

Interesting day.

I can't believe it's only Tuesday, it feels like this week is eternal.

But I know that any complaint that I could possibly come up with could never compare to what people are going through on the East coast.

Thoughts and prayers are headed your way, that is craziness.

I feel like I just kept repeating that today. Like when something bad happened and I wanted to complain I shutup cause really, my life is paradise compared to someone who lost their home in a fire after it being flooded by the storm.

I am really curious about the effect it will have on the election.

So, trying to focus on the positive of today: Mom brought my cookies.

Pretty sure my coworkers love her more than me.

And the Boyfriend came up after work. We watched The Voice.

To be fair I did give him plenty of outs.

But yes, the Voice - it was the rest of the knockout round. Yesterday Adam and Cee-Lo's teams were cut in half, tonight it was Xtina and Blake's turn.

I'm happy to say my number 1 totally dominated - aka Cassadee Pope former lead singer of Hey Monday.

Who I was a diehard fan of before they exploded.

Blog is written proof.

Anyway, here's my top 20 after tonight's knockouts.

Cassadee Pope
Trevin Hunte
Nicole Nelson – knocked out by Loren
Aquile - knocked out by Sylvia
Avery Wilson – knocked out by Cody
Bryan Keith

Brandon Mahone – eliminated after first battle
Michelle Brooks-Thompson – knocked out by Amanda
Adriana Louise
Collin Mcloughlin - knocked out by Michaela
Terisa Griffin – knocked out by Trevin
Suzanna Choffel - knocked out by Cassadee
Nelly’s Echo – eliminated after first battle
Melanie Martinez
Gracia Harrison - knocked out by Liz
Celica Westbrook - knocked out by Adriana
Mycle Wastman – knocked out by Nicholas
Mackenzie Bourg
2Steel Girls – eliminated after first battle
Joe Kirkman – knocked out by Bryan

I know that the goal is to get it down to one winner and that only one of these people will be left, but still TONIGHT HURT.

Lost Aquile, Collin, Suzanna, Gracia, and Celica. Granted Suzanna and Celica were both beaten out by other members of the top 20 higher than they were.

Here are the teams as they go into the live rounds - for 3 LIVE SHOWS this week.

Ads were hysterical. The biggest thing next week is THE ELECTION, but the next biggest thing....

ADAM:
Jocelyn
Bryan
Amanda
Loren
Melanie

CEELO:
Cody
Mackenzie
Trevin
Nicholas
Diego

X-TINA:
Devyn
Adriana
Dez
DeBorah
Sylvia

BLAKE:
Liz
Terry
Michaela
Julio
Cassadee

So only two from tonight survived, but I am starting to root for Liz Davis, Loren Allred and Amanda Brown as well.

I feel like they didn't get their fair share of coverage - especially Loren so gotta share the love.

Alright, I'm aware that really none of this matters as to what's going on in the world so I will now shut up.

Song of the night:

Cassadee's version of Maroon 5's Payphone

Suzanna is awesome as well, but totally bizarre song choice for a competition.

Cassadee rocked it.

Legitimate pre-midnight post. Holy crap tag in use.

Carving pumpkins and Voice ramblings

Carving pumpkins rocks.

Spent the evening eating supper and carving pumpkins with Squirt, Bubby, and Oldest Sister. King of Useless Knowledge joined us after to watch The Voice.

Which of course I'll ramble about shortly.

Today was good. Slept in 'til noon, did some laundry, bought some groceries - and the pumpkins - then headed to work for 2 hours. 1 of which I spent in the backroom checking in 6 carts worth of material, the next hour was spent putting out all the new stuff on displays and avoiding the desk for half the hour cause of one of the creepers who follows me around made an appearance and I would rather avoid him then have to deal with it.

But I've always got some great coworkers watching out for me so they covered the desk while I magically disappeared into the youth area.

After work I headed straight over the Oldest Sister's place. She made supper and it was awesome. No way I will ever be able to cook like that.

We watched Gabriel Iglesias's Comedy Central special Hot and Fluffy, he's pretty great with accents and all that.

Here's my favorite:

After that we carved our pumpkins and watched the Voice. I put mine out on my balcony so Carter doesn't eat it. That would be bad.

Okay, so after tonight, here's my Top 20:

Cassadee Pope
Trevin Hunte
Nicole Nelson – knocked out by Loren
Aquile
Avery Wilson – knocked out by Cody
Bryan Keith

Brandon Mahone – eliminated after first battle
Michelle Brooks-Thompson – knocked out by Amanda
Adriana Louise
Collin Mcloughlin
Terisa Griffin – knocked out by Trevin
Suzanna Choffel
Nelly’s Echo – eliminated after first battle
Melanie Martinez
Gracia Harrison
Celica Westbrook
Mycle Wastman – knocked out by Nicholas
Mackenzie Bourg
2Steel Girls – eliminated after first battle
Joe Kirkman – knocked out by Bryan

I lost 6 big ones tonight, including 2 of my top 5. Both were shockers, but Nicole's especially.

And Loren deserved to win.

I don't know where the hell this girl came from?!?! The problem is that there are so many contestants this year that they didn't show every blind audition and they didn't show every battle so some people are getting like 15 seconds of overview saying they made it and then they beat someone in this round and you hear them sing some big note and then it's done.

With Loren, holy crap, she came out of nowhere. Like I love Nicole Nelson, she is awesome. But Loren sang Amy Winehouse's You Know That I'm No Good - one of my favorites and on here acoustically - and it was awesome. So I had to look her up on Youtube. She has her own channel and ironically, recorded a cover of Vision of Love back in 2009 - which was the song that Amanda and Trevin had the master battle over the first week of battles.

You gotta watch it, she's awesome.

Vision of Love

Powerhouse.

Anyway, here is their battle. You be the judge.

And though that was awesome, my favorite of the night's gotta go to Mackenzie's remake of Call Me Maybe. Just cause when he said it was what he was singing we all went, really?

Call Me Maybe

So yes I lost 6, but that's to be expected since they're cutting their teams in half so they just have 5 each for the live rounds.

Amanda Brown was one of my honorable mentions but I'm actually glad she beat out Michelle. She deserved it and I hope she keeps going through.

So, the teams that knocked out tonight were Adam's and Cee-Lo's with Blake and Xtina going tomorrow including my number 1 pick.

Right now I have 2 each so it's looking good.

ADAM:
Jocelyn
Bryan
Amanda
Loren
Melanie

CEELO:
Cody
Mackenzie
Trevin
Nicholas
Diego

Alright, that was a lot of rambling. I'm out for the night.

all your base are belong to us

I love old video games.

And computer games.

I'm back to being hooked on Lords of the Realm 2.

aka a computer game that practically no one remembers.

circa 1996.

It's pathetic really.

Not the game, my bringing it back and how often I play it.

But it's a break from the norm.

Which is sometimes what's needed after a day in public service.

Not that today was bad.

The day itself went by fairly quickly.

It's just me that's off.

Soon as I got home I totally crashed and burned.

Been super tired lately, no idea why.

Need to start going to bed earlier perhaps. But I get distracted and don't end up looking up at the clock or don't end up getting back until like midnight. And then of course I can't fall asleep right away even if I want to.

But whatever, I'll work on it eventually.

For the moment it's 1:30AM but I don't have to go in to work tomorrow until 4, yeehaw.

And after that I'm headed over to Oldest Sister's to eat dinner and carve pumpkins.

However, at some point today I need to be up so I can go buy the pumpkins.

So I can't sleep 'til 3:30 like normal.

Bummer.

So that was pretty much my day. Work and LOTR2. And now the Husker game on in the background.

Oh, and at some point during the day my parents went to lunch and ran into the boyfriend's parents.

Which was apparently such a crazy thing it garnered both a text from my mother and a call from my father.

Since he never calls I thought there was a family emergency so I called him right back.

Not-so emergency, more-so amusing anecdote. Okay, we're good.

Oh, and apparently BossLady is a clown.

Part-time.

I told her there should be a joke in their somewhere.

Like, geez, my supervisor is such a clown.

Which she said, not me.

I should have got it in writing.

I take it back.

So THAT was my day.

On to tomorrow.

Well, first some Queen.

Then some sleep.

and THEN on to tomorrow.

Don't Stop Me Now - Queen

one without a permanent scar...

Big Husker victory tonight against Michigan, woohoo!

Brett Maher is back in action, redeeming himself for those previous missed field goals. Must have had Wheaties for breakfast.

Our defense really stepped it up, especially in the second half causing a lot of turnovers.

I watched the game with the boyfriend. We went out for half of it - steak and shrimp was great - and stayed in for the rest. I attempted to not yell at the TV as often as I do on my own or with my family.

Though I'm not quite as bad as my brother, but I explained that last week.

Anyway, glad to have a win since they were our last rated opponent and now we're at the top of the Legends Division of the Big 10. Next up Michigan State @ Michigan State. Should be interesting.

The game/dinner with the boyfriend came at the end of what was a pretty uneventful Saturday at the library. I checked my work mail this morning and saw like 6 new incident reports from yesterday alone, and since it was a home game I was expecting more, but the most rowdy the library got was when this one did wanted to talk to my supervisor about some expired hold fees.

And then he was fine.

I did fill out a program planning sheet and come up with a flyer for an upcoming TAB event. We're hopefully going to do some fun stuff with the community in a couple weeks, but we'll see what The Powers That Be have to say about it. Fingers crossed as my kids are excited about it - totally their idea - more on that later.

I did get to work twice with my Trainee which was fun as we never get scheduled together, and twice with BossLady who again dissed my shoe choice.

I LIKE THESE SHOES. I don't care that they're falling apart and their laces don't stay tied. I cut them twice already. But now there is a giant hole - well, in both of them - but in one especially to the point where my sole sticks out of the side and if I were to step in a puddle I'd be screwed. As Oldest Sister once told me, "I'm not going to stop praying for rain just because your feet are gonna get wet."

But I wore the last pair - the same brand and style but blue instead of grey - until they fell apart completely.

I have this weird quirk where I own a lot of shoes because I like shoes. Yet I wear the exact same pair every day until they die horrible deaths. I drag my feet which kills the bottoms of the shoes and the backs of them since they're rubbing against my heel. It always ends the same no matter what the brand or style - with holes in padding in the back and uneven soles due to the dragging, plus some tearing along the stitching.

I have no idea where I'm going with this or how I got here in the first place. Let me scroll up.

Oh right, so yes, BossLady made fun of my shoes SO I'm pulling out the duct tape! Just for survival sake.

And though I will no longer be able to wear them to work - while good conversation starters they wouldn't be very professional looking - I will still be able to wear them to things like church softball, and around the farm.

Shoes.

Shoes.

Shoes.

Oh my god, shoes.

Liam Kyle Sullivan.

Whoa. Flashbacks to Youtube hits from the high school era.

I'd post it but it's wildly inappropriate.

Though I'm guessing anyone my age that's reading this knows exactly the video I'm referring to.

So I will instead direct you to this one as the song has been stuck in my head since listening to it this afternoon.

Even though I attempted to drown it out with two hours of Carrie Fisher's "Shockaholic" aka 1 disc on the way to the boyfriend's and 1 disc on the way back with 2 discs remaining. More on that later.

That's right, a freeze-dried romance.

Day off = NCIS:LA, Napping, Homework, & Lords of the Realm 2

Was totally boring today, it was fantastic.

Slept in until noon, ate a peanut butter and banana sandwich cause they rock.

Watched NCIS: LA pretty much all day. Still am, in fact. Got season three from Target, I actually like the show now. Before I thought it was dumb cause it wasn't the original but now with Deeks it's not so bad.

Played some Lords of the Realm 2 on Kate cause she's XP and it won't work on Ziva with Vista. They need to remake that one. And Carmen Sandiego. That one is still wildly popular, they had the series, then the animated one, and they're in talks of making a movie but it still the old version from pre-2007 and you have to get in online cause it's not in stores.

Made some pasta stuff for supper, that also rocks.

Took a nap with my big fat cat. It's no wonder my back is messed up, I can't go a night without him sleeping on my stomach. It's both cute and obnoxious. Mentor suggests buying a heating pad and putting it elsewhere on the bed to see if he would sleep on top of that.

Finished all my homework for the week. Had a Reference assignment due tomorrow at midnight but as I'm headed out to see the boyfriend tomorrow night it was tonight or fail. Which is fine, I had planned it out earlier anyway and it's best not to procrastinate in grad school or it will kick your ass.

Now it's more NCIS: LA and sleep as tomorrow it's back to work.

But since I work the weekend I don't have to go in Monday until 4.

It feels so weird to actually stay home and work the weekend. I feel like I'm always going somewhere like class or the farm. I haven't been home home for a weekend in a while.

I know, I'm boring. I'm sorry. I'll have more to post about tomorrow.

For now, enjoy this classic.

Thursday, October 25, 2012

we are never ever ever getting back together.

So it is currently 3:49AM.

I don't have to work tomorrow - which is super weird cause it's a Friday and I haven't had one of those off in a very long time.

Today was fun, worked 9-6, then the boyfriend showed up - total surprise cause he's cute like that - and we jammed out with my big fat cat until he had to leave for work.

This whole work schedule thing sucks, but I'm sure it's not eternal.

So, tomorrow is sleeping in and some homework that needs to be officially posted by Saturday at midnight. Which means I should probably sleep soon.

But just wanted to post, say hey, mention how much I love my boyfriend, or how stoked I am to sleep in...if Carter decides not to fall off the bed and wake me up instead.

Okay, so a not so fitting song rec but I like it so deal with it.

guitars, cadillacs, hillbilly music.

Officially registered for Spring semester classes, woohoo!

I checked and there are still some spots available in them - actual shocker - but I think most people register some time tomorrow so that won't last long.

Anyway, I'm glad to have it out of the way. From the looks of it 2 of the ones I'm taking might be totally online and then third is on Thursday nights so it's possible I could have actual weekends free. But I may be totally reading it wrong.

Nevertheless it is official, I'm signed up for one that goes all around to visit a bunch of special libraries, learn about internet reference sources and then Reader's Advisory should be good for recommendations and all that.

So yes, I didn't go in until 1, but I had to be up by 11:45 to register for classes. Thinking I could sleep in I set my alarm for 11:15, but my stupid cat had other ideas.

So I'm sleeping, suddenly THUMP CRASH BANG clumsy cat fell off the bed and wiped out a bunch of cardboard boxes.

I don't know if he fell asleep too close to the edge and then just rolled over or if he was reaching for something, I just know that he's clumsy - so apparently that is contagious - and I would rather been sleeping than laying in bed staring at the ceiling.

But it made for a short day at work, and a rather long day at night. No idea why. I finished most of my assignments for the week but at the moment I just feel out of it and like anything I'd write would be crap.

Like this.

But I'm off all day Friday so if it's date night tomorrow with the boyfriend I'll do it Friday or if it's date night Friday with the boyfriend then I'll do it tomorrow.

For right now I'm gonna crash.

BUT FIRST!

Watch this. Rebel Wilson is highly entertaining. And apparently she got a threatening note from a neighbor so she reads it on Conan.

"yeah, and so will the COPS!"

for an explanation of the necklace watch this: Rebel Wilson Does a Mean Honey Boo Boo

If I'm doing a fake movie it's gonna be a fake hit.

Went to see Argo tonight with the boyfriend.

It was...interesting.

No, I shouldn't say it like that. It was good, very educational, but we were like a couple minutes late so the beginning was a bit confusing. If you didn't know your history you'd be totally lost, but I'm guessing there was some explanation given and we just missed it.

Anyway, I'd recommend it, Scale of Awesome is gonna say 6/10, but that's only because it was good but I don't plan on watching it again. I think it's definitely worth seeing, cause it's a great portrayal of an important moment in American history that you may not know about.

Which makes me sound like a nerd, but that's all I can really put into words about it.

Go see it and you'll get it. It's worth it.

"this is the best bad idea we have sir, by far."

I liked the actors in their roles, Ben Affleck was very good as lead (and as director) then you got some comic relief with Alan Alda and John Goodman, and it drove me nuts all night trying to think of her name but Clea DuVall as one of the hostages. She's guest starred in a lot of the shows I used to watch on a regular basis - Grey's, Bones, Saving Grace, SVU, etc. plus she had minor roles in She's All That and Can't Hardly Wait which are two of my favorite high school movies so it was driving me crazy.

There really is only one quote worthy of repeating, and I can't on here as it is vulgarity and I'm attempting to censor myself since people actually read this.

So go see it and it's repeated enough to stick with you, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

After that we started one of the Bond movies, "A View To A Kill" - he has the whole collection so it was more of a pick a box then pick a number and we'll start there kind of situation. So far it's pretty good, weird to see Christopher Walken so young. And his femme fatale sidekick is a little creepy...but we only got halfway through so more on that later.

Then I got to drive through the massive crazy fog that was super creepy, I could only see like 5 feet ahead of me, thankfully there were only a few people actually crazy enough to be on the road so it wasn't so bad traffic-wise.

But it was weird cause there would be areas with no fog at all so I'd speed up thinking it was done, then it was like doubled up on the other side of the hill so I had to slow back down.

But I made it.

Obviously.

Alright, on to The Voice, cause you knew that was coming.

Currently my top 20 is dominating as I have 17 of them left. Right now my list looks like this:

Cassadee Pope
Trevin Hunte
Nicole Nelson
Aquile
Avery Wilson
Bryan Keith

Brandon Mahone – eliminated after first battle
Michelle Brooks-Thompson
Adriana Louise
Collin Mcloughlin
Terisa Griffin
Suzanna Choffel
Nelly’s Echo – eliminated after first battle
Melanie Martinez
Gracia Harrison
Celica Westbrook
Mycle Wastman
Mackenzie Bourg
2Steel Girls – eliminated after first battle
Joe Kirkman

Tonight Adrianna Louise dominated over Disney star Jordan Pruitt and Avery Wilson knocked out Gaga background singer Chevonne who was then stolen by X-Tina so now the teams are full and moving on.

Aaannd, since more contestants have been added to the competition this year they've added in another twist, the Knockout round where the coaches pair their singers and their singers pick a song to sing for their coach.  So basically the same as the battle rounds except they'll be singing different songs at different times. So song choice is very important.

I'm interested to see how this works but the teams are at 10 each, they gotta knock it down to 5 for the live rounds.

Alright, on to the music:
Going with Maroon 5 - lesson known songs but still awesome

forgot how much i love this whole cd, but second sister is making playlists which lead me to the last cd she gave me - Hands All Over - which i listened to over and over for like 2 months straight.

Don't Know Nothing

I Can't Lie

ps - they're coming to omaha with neon trees and owl city, which would be like one of the best concerts ever. just saying. if anyone's interested let me know.

Registration tomorrow morning so I get to semi-sleep in yet not cause I'll be freaking out until everything is official. But I don't go in until 1 so I'll get some laundry and other stuff around here done, woohoo!

Blame it on the boogie.

Current time: 10:59 PM
Location: Couch
Background: NCIS: Los Angeles

What can I say about today? It flew by rather quickly, even though the majority of it was filled with flustered staff and frustrated patrons.

We run on an open source ILS system which means we're completely dependent on the internet, so when any part of that goes down we're screwed. This time I guess it had something to do with Amazon or something that took us down, but we didn't have access to patron records or our catalog from about 12 to 7.

That was fun.

Also fun? Making computer reservations manually by staff because the reservation station was down as well.

Anyway, I guess some of the branches used the offline utility version that you can just upload later, but for some reason both of the branches that I got to work at today - work and home - both decided to write everything out, you know patron barcodes plus the barcode of every checked out item?? on these "downtime" logs.

That was a fun last hour, manually inputting all that data. And I'm guessing it will be more of the same tomorrow since I don't think Koha was back up and running by the time the work branch closed - I left there early to close out at the home branch.

But, I got a lot of other stuff done when I was scheduled to be checking in. Since the system was down all I got was the circle of death - you know when something is supposed to be loading but it just keeps giving you the circle and never loads? - so I stocked supplies, updated by TAB website, got ready for the volunteer that comes tomorrow, filled out my time sheet, applied for leave on Wednesday, etc.

Oh yeah, I register for classes on Wednesday morning and apparently the ones I need fill up in like minutes so I'm staying home in the morning and going in after registration. This way I get time to set everything up and then I can just hit add and be done without the stress.

Cause you know there will be stress, I'll be freaking out cause it's a new system and I don't remember what I'm doing, and it's a big thing, and yes usually you can talk to the professors and ask them to manually add you if the classes are filled, but pretty sure they aren't big fans of doing that.

If I don't make it into those ones maybe I'll take Romance Reader's Advisory instead.

I'm joking, but I'm sure Queen of the Known Universe would be all over that one.

And yes, that's a legitimate class added this year.

I'm making today sound awful, actually it wasn't awful. I got a lot accomplished and yes some of the patrons were impatient but most of them were understanding. I love my job even when the system goes down, I get yelled at by angry patrons, the heat doesn't work, and creepers hit on me.

Cause I'm making a difference and what I'm doing matters and I like the place and the patrons and the material and the atmosphere and my teens and my coworkers and really everything about it. Except for when creepers follow me around the building, not a big fan of that. Which reminds me how grateful I am for security guards!

I remember when I first walked in for the interview and went, "really? a security guard for books?" Oh my god, what an underestimation. I don't know how the other branches function without one.

And I'm happy cause I got to work at the home branch with my Glee-Loving Boss. Who sends me FluMist Nasal Spray stickers through interoffice mail as a practical joke.

It's on.

Long story but I'm sure it's on here somewhere.

I don't know where I was going with all this. Basically the day should have sucked because of what happened but didn't suck cause I like my job?

Does that sum it up?

After work I came home, did some laundry, ate supper, and of course watched the Voice. Only one more night of battle rounds left - tomorrow - after that it's the knockout live shows so I'm pumped.

Many of my favorites faced off tonight and rocked it of course. Let me find my list, it's on here somewhere.

Okay, here's my top 20. I should count how many times this gets posted.

Cassadee Pope
Trevin Hunte
Nicole Nelson
Aquile
Avery Wilson
Bryan Keith

Brandon Mahone – eliminated after first battle
Michelle Brooks-Thompson
Adriana Louise
Collin Mcloughlin
Terisa Griffin
Suzanna Choffel
Nelly’s Echo – eliminated after first battle
Melanie Martinez
Gracia Harrison
Celica Westbrook
Mycle Wastman
Mackenzie Bourg
2Steel Girls – eliminated after first battle
Joe Kirkman

Tonight was huge cause many performed and only one was eliminated, and that was to someone higher on the list, aka Brandon Mahone lost to Nicole Nelson. Cassadee dominated her battle though I was bummed cause they didn't air the whole thing, will have to find it online, and Joe Kirkman also won his battle so that just leaves Adriana Louise and Avery Wilson who have yet to take the stage in the battle rounds.

Looking at who's left Adriana will probably face off against Disney music star Jordan Pruitt and as for Avery I think Lady Gaga backup singer Chevonne is the only one left, but I may be wrong.

So I think there are three battles left and only Xtina has a steal, I'm wondering who she's saving it for. I'm shocked no one grabbed Brandon, he was great but a bit outranked by the awesomeness that is Nicole Nelson.

Watch this if you have no idea what I'm talking about.

Alright, my mother says I'm obsessive and crazy about the Voice so I will stop rambling about it because it's late and I should be sleeping and at this point you probably don't care

SO, on the actual music rec of the night.

It's been stuck in my head, well a version of it has been stuck in my head, ever since seeing Pitch Perfect and I'm totally bummed that their version didn't make the soundtrack cause it's fantastic.

Blame it on the Boogie - Jackson Five

can't go wrong with a classic. even if the video is a bit acid trip.

another legitimate pre-midnight post. holy crap tag in use.

I think I thought I saw you try.

Ah, relaxation.

Church with the family in the morning, then dinner afterward. We took G-Wigger to celebrate her birthday. She and Second Sister are the same age.

After dinner was naptime. Which was fabulous. I miss naptime it was the only good thing about getting sent off to Rainbow World, of course I hated naps back then.

And Rainbow World too.

Yes, they did actually name their daycare center Rainbow World.

If it helps it's a church now.

That didn't last long. The only real memory I have of that place is hitting some kid in the head with a hammer. In my defense it was plastic and I'm pretty sure he did something to merit the giant thwack that sent me to the corner.

No wait, I remember watching some kid eat crayons and peaches simultaneously.

So make that two life-scarring memories.

Soon after I went back to staying with my grandparents or great aunt after school whilst my parents harvested.

Where was I?

Right, naptime.

Turned on Grimm and fell asleep on the couch. Apparently the show is much too scary for both of my parents but has no effect on me. I just love the fairy tale tie-ins. Like I said, total nerd when it comes to Charles Perrault or anything fairy tales.

After naptime I headed back and had supper with the Queen of Awesome. Rainbow chicken and fries, cause what else does one order at Lazlos?

Well, swordfish apparently. I had to take a picture.

And, yet again, half of it is in my fridge most likely to be eaten at around 2AM.

It was good to jam out with her, we haven't done that in a while but she is injured and I am busy with work and school and stuff. It's back to real life for the week.

I'm so exhausted that I will probably fall asleep the instant after this is posted, which is taking longer as I'm having trouble sitting up straight.

And no you can't blame that on the one adult beverage I had tonight at dinner, it's far gone by now.

I'm not sure why I'm this tired. I actually slept this weekend and I took a nap this afternoon so you'd think I'd be fine.

Oh well, I guess analysis isn't really necessary.

I will fall asleep, Carter will jump on me, waking me up so that he can sleep on my stomach - which is both cute and obnoxious - I will not be able to fall back asleep and be reminded of the fries in the fridge. I will get up to eat the fries and Carter will be pissed because it will be at that exact moment that he finally goes to sleep. Then I will get bitten for moving and get the glare on return to the couch/bed that I had fallen asleep on. He will have spread himself out, taking over the couch/bed making me have to move him causing him to bite me a second time....

This is pretty much our routine.

I could go on longer but you'd get bored.

let's go to the mall.

Today's Highlights Include:

-Sleeping in until 11:30, which was awesome, but then dad came busting in saying I needed to go get food and ice so that killed my whole sleep 'til noon plan. So close yet so far.

-Watching part of the Husker game with mom and dad's friends, oh Karen. We love you. Even when bad game moments make you pace.

-Watching the rest of the game with my brother and favorite sister-in-law. We jammed in the basement while the children ran wild upstairs. It was highly amusing. And my brother, much like Karen, eventually was forced to leave so he could pace and watch in a different room. He's very superstitious like that. Didn't matter, we still jammed in the basement drinking our adult beverages and downloading ringtones.

-After a 4th quarter victory that probably about killed both Karen and my brother I stayed for supper. They're good cooks so it was the works, pork chops, potatoes, beans and all that. Gonna have to learn to cook eventually. I still ask Space Cadets for recipes every once in a while, I'll have to start writing everything down and come up with a Slacker's Cookbook.

Catchy title right?

I did contribute to our church's cookbook when they put one together.

The entry read,

"Pull out a phonebook.
Look up the number to Pizza Hut.
Dial the number and enjoy."

Or something to that effect.

I was going to put in like the exact measurements of cereal and milk but I don't like milk so it would have been way off for regular peoples' needs.

And my sandwiches never include mayo or butter cause that's gross so the ingredients to those would just be meat and bread. Maybe some lettuce. Except when I'm at Subway or Jimmy Johns, then it's the works.

Anyway, their kiddos are super cute so we had fun playing around. Abby Cadabra was drawing pictures of everyone. I got 2 eyes but a big head and 10 legs. Everyone else had about 3 or 4 eyes but the normal amount of appendages. Except Squirt who had like 10 eyes but she had long hair to make up for it.

So nice to be able to stay again tonight. I'm so used to having to drive back because of work tomorrow. Usually I just get one day off and if I have two it's for class so they're not really days off. We actually figured it out, the last time I had the whole weekend off and it wasn't spent in class was the first weekend of August. When 2G went golfing for Tee It Up For Tuition. And it's what, mid-October?

Not that I really mind, I like my job and I like working there. I just need to start watching my time management so I don't burn out.

I am super excited for Vegas though, I should start a countdown. That's like the 10th of November and it's the 20th today so that would make it like 21 days? Right? Ultimate holiday weekend spent with the boyfriend and some family. Should be fun.

Alright, I should crash soon. As much fun as today was I'm still zonked out from conference. But I'll be fine by the end of the weekend and tomorrow should be fun. Church then I'm guessing nap time and then dinner with the Queen of Awesome, woohoo!

Song of the day:

I don't even know how this came up, or no no I do, Claire was playing one of the Just Dance's and it was one of the songs. Then we looked it up as a ringtone and it was totally available which rocked!

Got some cool ones now, Napoleon Dynamite, Tommy Boy, Mahna Mahna, Star Wars, Kill Bill, Castle singing, Rock Lobster, etc. On my old phone I had one for like everyone and I think I had like 150 contacts. That's doubled now so it's a work in progress. I'll have to group them there's too many.

Where was I?

Oh right, Robin Sparkles.

Watch these in order.

Here's the big reveal:

NLA 2012 Day Two - Fake it 'til you make it

New life motto from BossLady but it's me through and through.

Fake it 'til you make it, like this morning waking up at 5:30 like I'm some sort of morning person.

Ha!

Pulled that one off.

And seemed all extroverted the entire conference so I'm calling it a victory.

It's amusing cause I'm like that at work too so people think it's my natural state.

Ha!

Right.

But I stayed awake all day on a single cup of coffee which was super impressive cause yesterday I had like three, though yesterday was much longer than today. Instead of a 6AM-9:45PM day like yesterday this morning I didn't leave until 6:30 and got back around 5ish.

I did get my picture taken with Darth Vader - myself, the Library Goddess and another classmate all did a group shot as well. We were loving it. And I took a picture of our Library Director Extraordinaire - aka Boss's Boss's Boss - with the Sheldon Cooper cutout which I will send to our IT department with her permission.

Though I do enjoy going around and taking pictures even if they did glare at me for walking in late and leaving early I did actually sit in on a few sessions today.

This morning I hit up the Google docs presentation with Slim Shady, then headed back to the booth for a couple rounds, and ate like 3 bagels somewhere between when I got there at 7:30 and noon.

Even though I didn't need to be there 'til 8, but I figured if I'd again run into traffic or run out of gas or lose a tire or something. You know, the stuff that happens on really big days when you need everything to go perfectly?

Anyway, so then there was lunch, they're spoiling us with all this good food now I gotta go back to real life. Gonna have to learn how to cook actual real food that's more than microwavable.

The afternoon I went to our Library Director Extraordinaire's presentation on the library's strategic plan for youth services. I figured since she's my boss and I work in youth services it might be a smart idea. I sat by the Authentically Amazing One and Only KB and one of the branch managers from LCL - represent! KB and I took some fun pictures, one of which is on Facebook already and I'll have to upload my stuff later. It was a "you look up i'll look down now make a face" kind of picture that's highly amusing.

Last session of the day was another fun one with Slim Shady - 2012 best young adult novels - lady from the Library Commission presented and I found it amusing cause the majority of her books on screen had LCL barcodes, woohoo!

Sometime before all that I helped the Library Goddess take down our booth stuff and we got to chat a bit. That woman knows everyone, good god. Except ONE PERSON! I got to introduce her to ONE of my colleagues and reveled in the moment when she came up blank. Anyway, I don't know how she got around the building cause people were stopping her every five feet. I think she got more hugs today than the average person gets in their lifetime and that's really a testament to her and how great a person she really is. I'm very grateful to have her to look up to and work with.

I can now say that about a lot more people after today as well. I got to jam out with some really cool people, some who I barely know their names, others who I talk to weekly and we still didn't even realize how much we have in common. But that happens when your classes are long distance and you only see each other once a month for a couple of hours and then go home. Moments like these are very helpful in that respect and you get to be in a room full of fellow nerds, who can ask for more really?

So I came home with my bag full of pens, t-shirts and posters. The thing about booths is that if you go around when everyone is tearing down they stick you with as much crap as they can so they don't have to pack it. So I got like 3 t-shirts today alone and a bunch of posters to hang up around the young adult area plus some sweet bookmarks as well. Oh and the Library Goddess shoved what was left of the candy into my pocket so now I've got like 10 jolly ranchers floating around somewhere as well.

Not sure what I'm going to do with everything. Lately I've been collecting pens - okay this is kind of a long story but I'll shorten it. Remember that I'm a nerd and I write stuff. Well, I attempt to write stuff - not this stuff, the blog doesn't count cause it's crap, did I write that outloud, my bad - anyway, I write stuff so I've started collecting pens and t-shirts, just anything with random designs or names or whatever cause I'll use them for ideas in my stories. Like you know you're blanking and you look at the writing utensil in your hand and see that it's from a funeral home, so you start writing that into your story, you know? Just random crap.

I did tell you I was a nerd.

For the music rec scroll down and listen to yesterday's cause it's still stuck in my head.

I'm out!

NLA 2012 Day One - The Full Monica

2011 NLA Highlights: Green Bags and Nametags

I survived day one of the NLA annual conference.

Left the apartment this morning at 6AM and just got back at 9:45PM.

I didn't have to be there until 8, but thinking there would be traffic and I would get lost I left like an hour earlier than I needed to. After stopping for gas and cash I arrived at like 7:08. So I jammed in the lobby with Queen of the Known Universe and fellow LCLers. There were a lot of us there, I can count at least 12 off the top of my head. Though by the dinner banquet we were down to four.

Showed up with nothing but cereal and a diet dr. pepper and came home with a bag full of free stuff.

What is it about conferences or home and garden shows that turn you into a kleptomaniac? I mean seriously. It's my goal to go to each of the booths and get a pen or ruler or candy or whatever so I came home with this bag full of stuff and went, crap. Now what am I gonna do with it?

Granted the majority of the stuff taking up space in the bag is presents - I got something for mom, dad, the cool aunt and the boyfriend but i'm not done shopping for them yet.

And then of course came the t-shirt that the Library Goddess bought me cause she's awesome and spoils us. It's blue with the Superman logo on the front except instead of a giant S it's a giant L.

Should write in a "SA" after the L so it's a true statement as I am a Library Service Associate and not quite yet a Librarian.

So, our homework assignment from Boss's Boss's Boss is to meet someone, talk to them about what they do and then write about it to her in an email.

I think I've done that like 50 times over. And the thing about working with the Library Goddess is that she's so enthusiastic so if she doesn't know someone she'll go introduce herself and take you along with her. Like today, I met two published authors - Stephanie Bodeen aka S.A. Bodeen who wrote "The Compound" which is a Golden Sower nominee and Mary Downing Hahn - author of about 50 kids books but "Closed for the Season" was also a Golden Sower nominee, guessing the Cool Aunt is super jealous - and about 80 students in the program.

I didn't meet Tom Osborne but I did listen to him speak, and my Trainee met him in the parking lot so that's exciting.

We gave him a standing ovation. We did the a couple of times but he was the only one I actually knew. Which is amusing. People like stood up for this one chick and clapped and I was like, okay I should probably stand and clap. Who's this again?

I did learn a lot as well. As much as it physically pains me to say it, like literally pains me I'm intrigued by BISAC. I mean, I'm Dewey through and through, for serious, I think that the books are already divided up by genre why do they need to do it again with different labels, it would a pain and awful and just something else we'd have to adjust to if we switched over - but listening to a presentation about this library turning just their YA area into BISAC and having its circulation like triple intrigues me cause we don't get a lot of circulation for our nonfiction YA material. Perhaps if we had more signage and separated it out it may get more attention.

Except we don't have a lot of nonfiction for YA so that'd be something to work on first.

I'll keep it in mind. That and an App session were the only two I attended all the way through. The rest of the day I was in the booth or taking pictures of presentations if they were given by staff/students/alum of the Missouri program.

Taking pictures is fun until you get to like the second or third presentation on your list and everyone glares at you cause you're walking in late, then your camera makes noises and then you leave early getting even more glares. Blah.

Now I'll officially have to join NLA. Oh yeah, that's another person I met - the president of NLA, well as of a couple hours ago before she passed on the golden gavel to someone else. But I'll do it online this week after the dues are changed. And I'm a student so I get in for cheaper.

Hung out a lot with both of my bosses aka Superwoman and the Library Goddess. They were having an argument as to who is Boss #1 and who is Boss #2. I told them it was up to them to duke it out. It was fun hanging out with them.

I actually saw about 80 classmates who all know me cause I'm the grad assistant but I'm still learning names so I'm like, "Hey!" *pause to look at name tag* "Did you register for the iTunes giftcard raffle yet?" Thank god for nametags, seriously. My lanyard is purple and pretty but clashes with my yellow Mizzou tag.

New concept to take home from the conference but won't include in my report to the Boss's Boss's Boss:
-"The Full Monica" aka the female version of the Full Monty

Oh, and we all got our pictures taken with a cardboard cutout of Sheldon Cooper which will probably become my profile picture.

Tomorrow I'll get one with Darth Vader.

Clip of the day as recommended by the boyfriend.

Parody of a pretty much already parody.

Moldova sucks.

Okay, super short post for today. Not a lot of highlights, I'm on a roll for volunteers not showing up. Today made 4, but the one in the afternoon made up for it.

Um, looked over the NLA program to see what sections I'll want to go to. Though I don't know how many I'll actually see since I'm in the booth all day with the library goddess. Which should be fun, she's highly amusing.

I'm just not excited to have to leave the apartment at 6AM. But there will be traffic and I think I know where I'm going but I may be way off.

Apparently you can see it from the interstate but we'll see. I told Queen of the Known Universe she'll probably get a 7:58 panic call since I have to be there by 8.

According to mapquest it only takes like 45 minutes but earlier is better in case I get lost and then to find parking. Should have got a room to stay over, I'm not sure how late I'm supposed to say cause there's a lot fun activities going on after the conference.

After work was datenight with the boyfriend and as soon as he texts letting me know he made it back I'm out like a light - this wind is crazy - SO clip of the day:

RED
haven't watched this in a while which is unusual since I used to fall asleep watching it every night.

not cause it was bad, it was just routine.

Okay, he replied so I'm out.

Wow, a legitimate pre-midnight post. Feel like I should come up with a tab like "holy crap". Might just do that.

Not like it'll be used often, maybe 20 times a year.

so come and get it.

Carter is mad at me.

I'm not sure what I did to incur his wrath but he won't shutup.

I wonder what he does while I'm gone.

I know he's always waiting for me meowing at the door when I get home.

I'm sure my neighbors love him.

This is Carter in a nutshell.

no wait, this is carter in a nutshell.

pretty much every night. minus the bat.

You can blame these on my coworker's kid, she was the one to introduce me to them. We jammed out all afternoon - my TAB kids came in and made bookmarks, signs, banners and all that to hang up in the YA area.

She's a great artist so if there was a contest she would have dominated.

The bookmarks were a big hit. Apparently teens are into glitter. Who'd have known. Not sure that I was really that into but that was quite a while ago so maybe I'm blocking out my glitter fascination because it's tied to a specific memory.

I guess this goes on the "Boy, was I wrong" list, right above gauchos but just below the Flashdance phrase.

Haven't quoted Lorelai in a while, must be off my game.

So worked in the morning, jammed with the teens designing some cool looking bookmarks all afternoon. Literally all afternoon they were here 1-5. And then it took forever to take down to poor Info-Man basically had to close by himself.

After work I came back and did homework. Finished my paper due Friday and posted it. It's nice to know I can still pound out a major assignment in just a few hours. So I'm done for the week aside from discussion boards and then this weekend I'll attempt to work on stuff that's due next week but since it's my first weekend off in forever we all know that's not gonna happen.

I just needed to get it all done before conference on Thursday/Friday.

Or should I say nerd convention? More on that later.

I'm shocked but of course the boyfriend is off on vacation so no real plans which means I get to go to the farm. Woohoo! And get my tire pressure sensor fixed! I'm hoping, anyway. I think that thing breaks every few months, this is at least the third time it's happened. Gonna have to start keeping track of which tire it is.

More Voice battles tonight. Mycle and Michelle both survived. I'm starting to like Liz Davis as well, she's pretty good. Shocked by Xtina's steal, was not expecting that. The problem with more singers is that they don't show all of the battles. So like Celica, Michelle and Mycle's weren't aired even though they're great. They just showed the highlight reel and then the coach's pick.

Song of the night:

love 1:23-33 seems so much older than 25. just something about the voice. but it just sounds like she should be on the radio. you know? actual legitimate country voice, awesomeness.

Alright, I'm out for the night. The teens tire me out even though I was just sitting all afternoon drawing. They've got a lot of energy. Yikes.

OUT!

Monday, October 15, 2012

i can't live without you tell me what am i supposed to do about it...

Fearless Leader made a guest appearance today.

I pretty much tackled her.

But we miss her around these parts.

Sadly I talked to her for like 5 seconds before I had to present the Curious George stuff - again! - you'd think I'd have it memorized by now.

Ha, right.

Scroll down a few posts and you'll get what I'm talking about.

They were putting up the panels for the displays as I was leaving. Should be all ready by opening tomorrow, woohoo!

Day flew by fairly quickly, checked in six carts in an hour, updated the TAB website, OH! sent them a challenge...

It's Teen Read Week - oh yeah, happy teen week read, btw oh and last week was banned books week, i totally sent a letter to my former children's lit professor as we have become pen pals - and we have this site that the awesomeness that is Info-Man has created that houses reviews and booklists and links - it's the one site I submitted my Hunger Games and The Help booklists to. Anyway, there's a staff review section to it that I contribute to, though not lately, my bad, but there's also a customer review section as well. Let me know if you're interested I'll send you the link.

Anyway, Info-Man was saying how he got all these great customer reviews from one of the other library's teen volunteers so since it is Teen Read Week I sent out an email to my TAB kids with a competition to see who could post the most reviews by the end of the week.

They don't have to read/watch/listen to the stuff this week, they just have to have read/watched/listened to it in the past and make sure it's in the collection for it to count.

We'll see if anyone participates, but I there will be a prize for the winner.

Though I'm guessing I already know who that will be.

But we'll see, I'm constantly surprised by these kids.

I'm hoping I will be tomorrow as well. We're doing out artwork project day - well, afternoon, literally. They're coming in 1-5, well I'll be there 1-5 they can show up whenever and leave whenever - but we're going to be making artwork to decorate the Young Adult area as it has white walls and is very blah-ish.

So we'll design some new signage, color some posters to hang around - I'm thinking of like having them draw out their favorite scenes or do some cool calligraphy of classic quotes or something so it's all literature-related - and then make up some cool bookmarks to have laminated and cut out.

We gotta spice the place up a bit as it is like the only wall in the building not colored.

So we'll see who shows up. I basically have it 1-5 because it's their day off and half of them could make it before 3 and the other half couldn't make it until after 3. But like I said, they're teens so we'll see if they're actually interested and want to take part or if they're feigning interest and would rather sleep or something.

Not that I'd blame them, it is their day off and sleep is pretty awesome.

I mean, I'd rather be sleeping.

Right now I mean, not then.

I'm excited for then, right now I'm toast but I gotta shower and do homework before I can go to bed.

It's only 11, I got time. As long as I'm out by 1 I'm usually pretty good the next day. Any later than that and things can get questionable.

I would have started earlier except you know The Voice and Castle were on, and I can't focus with them on in the background. Other shows I can pull that off.

The battles weren't like super exciting tonight. I mean, they were okay, but nothing as spectacular as Trevin Hunte vs Amanda Brown. That was awesome and I'm glad she got saved.

Scroll down a few, I posted it at some point this past week.

Though I'm guessing no future ones will really be even close to that one.

Or maybe they will, I mean almost half of my top 20 still has yet to battle and the only two I've lost are Nelly's Echo and 2Steel Girls.

I think I need a new vacuum. The big one that I have doesn't work properly though that's probably because I don't have any replacement bags, and then the smaller one works but the battery constantly needs charging.

I attempted to clean tonight after work but the motivation didn't last long when the vacuums weren't working.  Will work on that more later. Think tomorrow is date night with the boyfriend, either that or Wednesday night, it has yet to be decided. The night that's not date night will be homework night and if it's Wednesday night it's gonna have to end early cause I gotta be up and an hour away by 8AM the next morning for NLA.

And you all know how much of a morning person I am.

Will have to google directions on how to get there and all that since I don't know where I'm going.

Alright, song of the day:

Disease - Matchbox Twenty
love this video.

sorry, rob thomas is cee-lo's guest adviser this season so it's stuck in my head.
