I could write a blog. I have thoughts.

stabilized, motorized, insecure or fableized, curious or furious, picked apart like prometheus, legalized, penalized, don't you cry, dry out your eyes

So today was suckish.

Morning started out bad.

Afternoon I felt like I was gonna fall over.

Just nauseous and tired. And was burning up earlier. And my coworkers felt weird today too so I'm interested to see how we feel tomorrow.

Tonight I had absolutely no motivation to do anything of substance whatsoever cause I still feel like I'm gonna fall over.

But the difference between falling over at work and falling over here is that here I have a nice couch to fall upon.

And then just not get up from until I have to let the pizza delivery dude in.

I have no food in my fridge.

And I'm slightly obsessed with these spinach and feta breadsticks, they're fantastic.

Which is saying something because I am the breadstick queen, ask Sketch.

I'll order the pizza but I won't eat it. It's all about the breadsticks.

Plus, for some reason, I'll be starving and then when it gets here I'm not hungry for it at all.

I don't know, I'm weird like that.

So I really don't have a lot to say about today other than it drug on and I'm glad tomorrow is back to a halfday and more practicum work. We'll be on to the men's library, probably for a couple of days, they have about double the material and space than the women's.

I should take before and after shots. I just took after ones for the women's.

Carter is mad at me.

I kicked him off my stomach so I could sit up and post this. He was so happily sleeping on me as we finished Elementary season one.

I'd like to say that I predicted that ending, but I really didn't.

I do like this version's twists and turns, however I also enjoy Benedict Cumberbatch's version of the series as well.

It's hard to choose between the two cause I really like both of the Watson's.

Though I do find it amusing that Sherlock Holmes has been around for decades and it's like all of the sudden he's all over the place media-wise.

You've got Sherlock on BBC, you've got Elementary on CBS, you've got the Robert Downey Jr. movies, and there's also a web based series called No Place Like Holmes in which they are frozen in time and emerge in 2010. Along with many other standalone projects.

I'm wondering what the next big thing will be...

Oooh, they should make a series about Miss Marple. But like younger. That'd be cool.

Alright, those are all my sane-sounding-thoughts and some of my not-so-sane-sounding-ones at the moment.

Feel as if I'm gonna pass out so perhaps if I continue to lay on the couch and it happens I can call it sleep.

Sadly, it wouldn't be the first time.

Not even on this couch.

Music.

How Am I To Be - Watson Twins

hard to talk about two Watson's and not jump to The Watson Twins. unless you're not an indie fan like i am.

in which case you're severely missing out.

i really like when they collaborate with Jenny Lewis.

here's one of my favorites. the other favorite i've already posted here and here.

Fernando

Sorry Occifer, We didn't notice the light was red, we were too distracted by cotton candy grapes. No we're not drunk, they do exist.

The sad part is I'm serious, Cotton Candy Grapes, but I don't know that I want my grapes to taste like cotton candy.

But maybe that's just me.

Aww, and see watching this makes me want to watch the show all over again.

Though it's missing the line of all lines "We solve crimes, I blog about it and he forgets his pants. I wouldn't hold out too much hope."

I don't really have much to say for today. Worked 9-6. Spent the majority of it brainstorming for my Ornery Old Men and Million Dollar Crazies booklists.

They are both highly entertaining, though I should focus on the Banned Nonfiction one first as it has a deadline in September.

Now they're trying to make me turn them into booktalks, but as I'm not a fan of public speaking I secretly cheered when all the spots were filled.

Oh, I mean, how sad. I was really rooting for me to make a fool out of myself in front of a bunch of old ladies.

Who I'm sure would be completely supportive and consoling.

Well, depending which group I'm referring to, or so I hear.

Anyway, aside from the booklists I had a polish dog for lunch....and some chips....and that's really all I remember about the workday.

Aside from the whole cotton candy grapes thing.

Which I still can't wrap my brain around.

After work I headed home and got ready for my first online class of the semester. We're only meeting online a couple times a month and doing discussion boards like five weeks out the entire semester and I think I have like 5 major assignments total.

So nice going back to one class at a time instead of that whole 3 classes with homework every night thing.

Which was fine, cause it burned through my 43 credits, but still all I have this semester for homework is Youth Services and then at the end of each month I have to write a summary paper for my practicum.

Which I should really look at the directions for before I go in tomorrow.

That's right people, day 2 tomorrow.

Whoa. Weird noises coming from my vent and now Carter is staring at it ready to pounce.

I hope there's not something in it.

Now he's staring around the ceiling like he's following it around.

Okay, calling maintenance tomorrow.

Where was I?

After being creeped out by the grapes but before being creeped about the mystery noises....

Oh right class, it was fine.

There are like 40 people in the class so an hour of it was spent on introductions - and it's all online so every time someone would speak it always started with "can you guys hear me?"

Then we went over the syllabus so it was very handy to have that interaction even though it's not in person.

Normally Carter's inquisitiveness just leads to someone getting bit but I'm kind of glad he's here in case some sort of creature jumps out of that vent.

He's the man of the house so he's in charge until maintenance gets here.

Perhaps I shall call them tonight instead.

On to the music:

Miss Baltimore Crabs - Michelle Pfeiffer

I'm not quite sure why her character was so proud to hold the title of Miss Baltimore Crabs, as it doesn't sound like something you want to spread around.

Tell people about.

Bad, bad, bad.

Tell people about.

Even sadder is that that is the sane version of Amanda Bynes.

and the game of golf was invented

Yes, I know. I'm late again.

Went out to dinner with the boyfriend's family for his birthday and then after we went to see the Hobbit 3D.

Which didn't get out 'til midnight.

It was pretty good though. Not as good as the first movies but maybe the sequel will be better.

Scale of Awesome puts it at around 7/10. It had it's moments. That sounds like it's bad, it's not bad. It was good, just not as good as I thought it would be. But it's hard not to build it up when the first three were awesome.

Though I do enjoy Martin Freeman as Bilbo. Benedict Cumberbatch was in it as well, though you couldn't tell it was him. Looks like he'll have a bigger role in the next two. I just love that both of them are in it.

Please tell me you've seen the latest BBC version of Sherlock.

If not go here: Amber Atkins that is not American Teen Princess Language

What else from yesterday?

Slept in, jammed out with the boyfriend. Watched Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter - which I've already reviewed here: Dick Cheney, Vampire Slayer - and The Raven. I slept through part of it but for the parts that I watched it was pretty good. Think I'll go back and watch it again. At the moment it's around an 8/10, but maybe that'll change once I see it all the way through.

Alright, on to the music.

Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck: Day Nine

Baby it's cold outside - She and Him

love these guys. in my top 5 of favorite bands.

Silver bells - Twisted Sister

ummm, okay. so the beginning is a little questionable. okay the whole video but the music is great.

Rockin' around the Christmas tree - Brenda Lee

original version is still the best

I'll be home for Christmas - Kristin Chenoweth

great voice, very impressive.

and good timing as i'm headed out to the farmhouse this weekend.

me and carter, i'm sure my mother is thrilled.

but it'll probably be like last year - take him home over christmas and then he'll stay there through new years. otherwise i have to load him up and bring him back twice and he hates the car. as you've heard many times. i'm sure if you looked hard enough you could find multiple lists of the songs he hates.

and i'm off.

For last year's Day Nine go here

Amber Atkins, that is not American Teen Princess language!

Today was a day.

For serious.

I think I sat down once between 3 and closing.

First there was a girl who wanted Bieber books. Then she wanted photocopies of the covers of the Bieber books. But of course no one knows how to use our copy machines cause if you don't have the right placement of stuff it says there's no matching paper size.

Then I had about 2 damaged books and 2 cases missing CD's to process, which wouldn't have been so bad if I wasn't trying to finish a Fresh Start Waiver and being bombarded by 5 other patrons all at the same time.

Meanwhile, leaving poor Queen of the Universe by herself to cover the entire second floor. Where I was supposed to be 40 minutes prior to that moment, but was still at the desk because our tech genius Info-Man was helping out with some e-book stuff, and The Old New Guy was trying to put together a program while working at the desk, and there really was just the four of us at the desk because the other supervisors were either checking in holds, helping with that e-book question.

Anyway, it was a bit hectic. But we managed to pull through unscathed.

After that I headed over to see Squirt in her Homecoming dress.

Quote of the day:
"That rat bastard, if I didn't hate him before, I hate him now!"
we'll keep that one anonymous, though i totally lost it upon hearing it.

Then I headed home and watched Drop Dead Gorgeous. Cause the library finally got it on dvd. Oh my god, even funnier than I remember. Though I think the last time I watched it was like 10 years ago so now I get more of the references.

Amy Adams making her film debut, aw I miss Brittany Murphy. She was great.

Here's some of my favorites.

Most Smartest
Best damn tapper.

or you could just go with this one.

The problem with watching movies like this is that immediately following I can't stop talking with a Minnesotan accent. Same thing happened with "New In Town", shutup Sketch. Maybe it's from listening to all my teachers growing up. They all went to the same college in MN to get their degrees and went home with accents they used to make fun of.

Alright, gotta crash cause I gotta be up and leaving at 6:30 tomorrow morning. Ugh. Stopping for coffee on the way there.

I need to work more on that website design, it's due next week and I'm super far behind cause I went to the wedding instead of class last Saturday.

Not that I'm regretting, that it was probably the most fun I've had in a very long time.

I just need to get on this so I don't put it off until last minute and then get stuck with a bunch of tech questions. More on that tomorrow after class.

I'll leave you with this reference.

For those of you who get it, enough said.

For those of you who don't, go here: Sherlock: A Study in Pink IMDB

Won't do me no good, washing in the river, can't no preacher man save my soul.

Things I was a fan of today:

-Databases.
I figured, in order to be a semi-decent reference librarian I should at least practice with some of the databases, that way I can use them in the future. So I've started going through them. There are some kickass music ones, by the way. Totally stoked. Today was music and automotive, tomorrow is literature.

-New locker. As I'm there 40 hours I went from sharing a locker with an aide, to having my own locker, to now sharing it with a different aide. But this time it's decorated. And farther toward the corner than right away at the door. And it has garfield stickers on it. She's going to bring magnets. I'm excited. You know it's been a weirdass day when you're excited about magnets.

-Sherlock on DVD. Duuude. Loving the British series for the new young Sherlock. Carter slept on my stomach while we watched the pilot. I'd seen parts of it before at Oldest Sister's but actually saw the whole thing just now. Had to pause it so I could post then start the next one. Carter is patiently waiting for me to put down the laptop so he can go back to sleep. Okay, so not much patiently, more like glaring. But I'm getting there.

-Don't have to work tomorrow until 6 and it's at my home library. Which means, sleeping in, running errands, etc. But in a lazy fashion.

Things I was not a fan of today:

-School Zones.
Kicked my butt this morning. But I'll sort all that out tomorrow. Yeah. That kind of made the day so weirdass. Hence the being excited about things like magnets and databases. Not that they're not cool in their own way, but today they were super cool.

-Blaring alarms. In a way, it's good to know that the security system is back up and fully functional, it is, however, rather annoying when you get the blaring emergency message telling patrons to leave the library and then they log off their internet session so when you tell them it's only a test you get the glares of doom.

-Lack of pop. Dude. Need to go shopping tomorrow. I can live without food, I cannot live without Diet Dr. Pepper.

-Lack of milk. I hate milk. I can't drink it, it grosses me out. Don't ask, I can't explain it. But I need milk to make these potato things. And this cake batter stuff. And I hate that because I'll buy it and use it once in these things and then it'll just sit there and get ever grosser.

-Aw crap, I gotta post that paper. I have it planned out, I just have to type the thing and post it. But I can do that tomorrow. It's not due until midnight anyway.

Alright. Songs that start with the letter B.

Why is it, that there are no B Batteries? Did you ever notice that? Yes, I've heard what's his name spout about it in comedy form, he is rather amusing with his theory about glass houses, but it makes me wonder. You get triple a's and lots of c's even d's but no b's. Hmmm.

Sorry. B Music. That I haven't already recommended and that you've probably never heard before. Okay. Here we go.

"Barton Hollow" The Civil Wars

yes he looks like johnny. you get used to it.
listen to this one. seriously. it lives and breathes old school. though for some reason it reminds me of the underground railroad. i blame that on a similar song we sang in high school. anyway, it's awesome and i love it. so simple yet so powerful. i'm sorry. all this music databasing - yes i'm making it a verb - is bringing out my choir nerd tendencies. yes, i was one of those. which you either already knew or could have guessed by now. mandatory choir and traveling select choirs and musicals and all that.

"Bedroom Eyes" Dum Dum Girls

does it weird anyone else out that it's just the one of them that doesn't sing. and the rest do? i mean, she could fake it at least. bizarreness.
