I could write a blog. I have thoughts.

A change of pace.

I feel like I should do some sort of least favorites post. Just because this past week was all about favorites.
Least favorite food - brussel sprouts, cliche but still nasty
Song - You're having my baby by Paul Anka, I couldn't watch Finn sing it on glee, awful
Movie - Rushmore. bad acting, bad script, no ending, wasted 2 hours of my life that i want back. i seriously rambled on the phone to the BFF for over an hour. Awful. it is, it's terrible. although, the Other Guys is up there as well. I loved Will Ferrell in SNL but I can't stand him in movies. Even Elf. Awful. I couldn't finish the Other Guys. Rushmore I had to watch all the way thru because i was hoping it would turn out better.
Sport to watch - does cheerleading count? wait, i can't say that because that would classify it as a sport. we'll go with golf. which also isn't really a sport but it does involve competition. but that's just to watch, i had a fun time with friends at the 'Tee-it-up for Tuition' event. "It's never too early to start eating like an old person." "you almost ran over bertha!" i leaned to grab the club and she turned throwing me out of the cart. I really want to know where the nickname "big bertha" originated. that poor woman. reference question for tomorrow i guess.
Book - Moby Dick, but we covered that in the books post. no one cares about whale or boat dimensions. sorry Ashby.

other least favorite things - clothes shopping when i'm being forced to try things on, running out of pop in my fridge, my cat when he bites me, shots i hate needles.

okay, i'm exhausted so that's all for now.
have a good night.

and did anybody watch Castle tonight? fantastic! but Coop looks weird with long hair. (charmed)

This is a week of my favorite things Day Seven

Okay, right now, gotta say I'm loving Anne Hathaway. "You are the Wolve to my Rine." Not that I didn't already love her, she's actually kind of awesome. I already rambled about Get Smart on favorites day whatever...two? yeah, day two. Plus, James Franco in a dress? That was niiiice... BTW - loved their musical version of Harry Potter totally gonna find that on youtube later.
As you've probably guessed, yes I am watching the Oscars which is another one of my favorite things. I'm kind of an Awards Junkie so it's cool for Day 7 to fall on tonight. Not like I planned it that way, I'm not that smart.

And wow, day 7. I think I've gotten more hits this week than any other so that's big. There's people overseas reading about my obsessions. Madness. Sadly I'm glad it's day 7 because I have no idea what other topics I could cover. Fashion trends? I was big into tearaways for years. lots of tearaways and backwards hats. then dyed hair, which is still around. Catchphrases? there's too many of those. I could go all "Inside the Actor's Studio" on you and talk about my favorite swear word. Which I won't. Although I have been saying "Janet" a lot as I think it has artistic integrity. Hooray for Rocky Horror. I tried "oh pigeons" Mark, really I did. But I just can't pull it off like you.

As I'm running out of favorites, and time I'm just gonna throw some random ones out.

Number - 3
Food - Fajitas or Pizza
Color - Red
Nickname - CK or Red
Sport to play - Basketball
Sport to watch - Husker Football/Roller Derby cause yes it's a sport, especially if you're there live
Reality Show - Wipeout
College class - any English class really but mostly Fiction Writing just because the assignments were something I was doing anyway and my classmates and prof were hilarious. "The Gospel of Meaghan" anyone?
Oscar presenters tonight - Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law cause they're fantastic and Sherlock 2 comes out around Xmas! (add RDJ to my fave actors list btw)
Thing about Lincoln - things are open past 8, who knew?!
Afternoon activity - napping. or watching a movie. or napping while watching a movie.
Celebrity making a comeback - Gwyneth Paltrow, fave Glee ep this season (aside from Rocky Horror) was the Substitute so I'm stoked for her coming back and Anne Hathaway is joining the cast as well, woohoo!
Celebrity I wasn't a fan of at first but now I'm growing to love - Dana Delaney, did you see her in Castle? "What part of un-ass do you not understand?" stoked for her new series. yet another female ME I'm going to love. Claire WMC...Maura R&I...the ME from the Closer is kinda girly with his long hair, does he count? I do enjoy him. haha.
Quote - F. Scott Fitzgerald's "Show me a hero and I will write you a tragedy." that I carry around in my back pocket cause I'm a nerd. That's followed closely by "Gazelle Swagger" which is a ZH original and more of a long story.
Icecream flavor - Mint chip...or sherbet but that's yogurt so it doesn't count
Cartoon growing up - Scooby Doo. or Garfield. I was also really big into That's So Raven. "Dancin' Iguana, Dancin' Iguana!" "Good evening good sir knight and...ugly hag?!"
Movie nominated for Best picture this year - King's Speech totally deserved all 12 noms but 4 wins will do.
Ipod app - Angry Birds. I'm hooked man.
Foreign language total jam out song - is a tie between "Dragostea Din Tei" aka the Numa Numa song or "Boten Anna" by Basshunter. Both are frequents on my ipod. I encourage you to check them both out. Fantastic. Actually Basshunter came out with an English version of BA called "Now You're Gone" but it's not as good.

okay i'm running out of things that aren't movies, music, tv, hobbies, books or whatever day six was, youtube. that's right. And yes some of the above are from those categories but what else am I gonna ramble about really?

And this is all starting to sound like a rambling oscar speech so I'm gonna stop before you all change the channel.
Quote of the day - "I have to be first!" said by The Hulk. but he wasn't green. he was just really really strong. and a bit scary. another long story. but still hilarious.

"It's not a secret. Why do you keep it? I'm just sitting on the shelf."

And ha! found it!

okay, second posting since first one is gone. this is different though, adding in The King's Speech but taking out The Social Network.
harry potter is definitely the best.

here's the original reversely screened which means it'll probably be gone in a few days.

This is a week of my favorite things Day Six: Youtube clips

Today was awful. But family always helps. We had cake for Gram's birthday. The cool aunt did some 'creative cutting' around the wording. It was nice. Totally loud, probably could have gotten thrown out with all of our noisemakers - Gram was the loudest!! But we hung out, watched some reality TV, ate cake and drank asti. Good times.

Okay, so, because I'm running out of ideas you get some of my favorite youtube clips. But, because there are far too many to post, these are just a few. Cause yeah, too many to post.
So, these range from music videos to stand up to talk shows to clips of shows to behind the scenes stuff to whatever.
In no particular order we have....

Victor Borge on Mozart's opera

No one knows why, except Mozart and he's dead.
I grew up watching him with my grandparents. I still have the vhs tape at my apartment even though I don't have a vhs player. If you like this one you might also like these

Word Disassociation by Lemon Demon

This is from like high school but I still love it. This is the guy that does all the Potter Puppet Pals stuff.

Absolutely Fabulous

I love love love this show and I think this is my favorite clip of my favorite episode - season four. Too funny.

Carrie Fisher roasts George Lucas

Because there's no underwear in space!!
A must see for a Star Wars fan

Friends blooper reel

One of many out there actually, they have a cool behind the scenes thing with the cast where they explain them.
Here's part two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ppUPgV3cA8
aside from all the blooper vids, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSQTgGUF2Z4

Craig Ferguson as Jessica Fletcher

And the answer to what the motorcycle/deer quote title was from MURDER SHE WROTE!
Has there been a murder?!?
But this was from way back when I watched him every night and he still used sound machines and all that.

Lauren Graham on Ellen

Mooning, Beads, and Piano Playing

Paget Brewster on Conan - interrupted by alarms but still awesome

I didn't whore, I didn't hook, I answered the phones!

This is a week of my favorite things Day Five: Hobbies

Since I love my job and that's basically my life now I don't have a lot of time for hobbies, or as much time as I used to. Aside from the usual singing, dancing like an idiot, watching movies/tv, listening to music, hanging out with friends most of my hobbies somehow involve children - directing plays, directing a camp, directing skits and worship at that camp, that's my mid-year life. Should be interesting to balance with work. We'll see how that goes. We have a date for the play this year, we're doing Three Men in the Fiery Furnace - but it's under a different title that I can't remember - but we're grouping it with awards night, that way we have more time to work on it.
Aaannnd, since it's almost spring that means camp stuff is going to be starting up full swing soon, aka writing up the registration and release forms, sending them out, updating the website, then once they start coming in it's all about ordering t-shirts, assigning grades to cabins along with counselors, teen helpers, station leaders, putting together a schedule, watching the budget, writing/finding skits to match with the numbers in each grade. Printing nametags to put in the lanyards, updating the song books...I'm missing something, I'm sure. But yeah, there are spreadsheets galore on my computer, it's madness. But I love it. Because, again, I'm crazy. But just seeing how happy the kids are is totally worth it. Plus, youth camp means teen camp which is even more fun because it means I'm not constantly watching out for homesick 3rd graders. These are just teens that only want to swim, tube, or watch movies on the wall. "Delayed...Reaction" loves teen camp because it's when we're most inspired to write and perform music...Plus we eat things like pizza, steak, lasagne, icecream and all that. Take them bowling. Go tubing down the river, which we do at youth camp as well but that is madness. 40+ 5-8th graders tubing down a river does not bode well for the sane. I'm stoked! Can't you tell? No, I actually am stoked. I love it. Which is why I've been going to the camp since 2nd grade. That's like...crap headmath on the fly sucks, Library Goddess was right. Like 12 years of camp! Madness, no wonder I got promoted. I'm a lifer. So's Amos. And Steve. And Megan. We have fun.

Okay, enough rambling, list time.

So I guess favorite hobbies for me include:
5. Lazy things like watching movies/tv, listening to music, reading books - it's nice to have something that's quiet and laidback after working all day in public service.
4. Helping with the play at my old grade school - we have far too much fun during practice. more laughing than progress but it's worth it in the end.
3. Going to the Roller Derby!! I'm a nerd for Derby. LT. Slamher is my hero. No Coast Derby Girls all the way! Toni told me I was supposed to try out (aka manager) but Mom said if I made it into grad school I wasn't allowed to join as it would take up too much of my time. Boo. I could pull off a secret hidden life, right? Yeah, no, probably not.
2. Directing the kids summer camp - yes it basically takes over my life and all my spare time but I love it. I really do.
1. Writing - That's really my only "hobby hobby" of interest because it's the only thing I'm occasionally semi-good at. Or so people tell me, everything I write I think is crap. Maybe that's because I'm a perfectionist, about writing anyway, so if it turns out different than my plan I don't like it.
But I write some of the skits for camp if I can't find anything I like. This past year I wrote one on Rapuzel the early years aka before she was born and how the evil witch tricked her parents into giving her up. I gave it to the seventh grade girls. My niece played the demon radish - long story - but they loved it, she still has the script hanging on her door. I always give my favorite skits to the seventh graders just because they still think drama and acting is fun, whereas the eighth graders are like "this is lame. i want to go swimming." It's the skits that are written at 2AM the night before camp that I've learned go over the best, aka Rapuzel and then the year before that's "Killer Eggs" which is an even longer story and yet again for the seventh graders.
But major pressure for this year since I promised the seventh grade girls a continuation of Rapunzel after she was imprisoned. And now they'll be eighth graders. Crap.

Okay, back to writing. Since it's clearly my favorite hobby without any competition we'll just go with it.

Here's a short intro from one of my latest projects.

“Well they say she died easy of a broken heart disease, as I listen through the cemetery trees.” – One Headlight, The Wallflowers

I watch as Tom, her father, approaches the grave. His hands are clasped behind him as he walks in an adagio kind of pace. From far away one could easily assume he is at peace, but they would be missing the contorted look on his face that contradicts with the rest of his calm demeanor. He is trying to be strong for Amanda, Lindsay’s mother, who seems to be a zombie in complete denial of every emotion ever conceived.
As the service starts people make a circle around the grave and Father Mark. I stay by the tree line around the edge of the cemetery. My feet are stuck in place. I can’t seem to make it any closer than 40 feet away. The breeze picks up and I can hear the leaves rustling against each other. It is as if she is here pushing me toward the grave, begging me to say goodbye and receive some kind of closure in return. But I’m not going anywhere. This is as close as I can get. The wind makes it hard to hear Father Mark. I can only make out every couple words but I’m not really listening anyway. All I can think about is the last few days. A week ago you were healthy. A week ago you were happy. A week ago we were together. Now you’re dead… and it’s my fault.

Intrigued? Me too, now if only I could figure out where to go from there!! No, I have a couple pages after that but I'm already stuck. Jake is the main character, he is moving to Seattle for a job and asks Lindsay to go with him. Most of it is in flashback. I'm still debating how to kill her off and make it his fault. I have a couple of ideas but none of them good enough to give me inspiration to finish it. If you have any send them my way!

So, since I'm blocked on that one I'll stick to my guns and hit you with another Sketch and Edit. With them I'm never blocked, mostly because they're short and if I don't like it I can make them do someting else, like order takeout or go shopping for flowers or go to a bar or install a nav system or decorate a tree. The possibilities are endless. There are more of these throughout the blog if you feel like scrolling through. You don't have to read them in any particular order.

Since I've been spent most of my day in one Wednesday I'll give you this one.

Sketch and Edit Sit in the Waiting Room
E – “I hate waiting rooms. They always make me feel so nervous.”
S – “Remind me why I’m here again.”
E – “Every time I go to the dentist something always goes wrong.”
S – “And I’m here because…”
E – “I need the moral support. You should know I’m famous here for bad things happening. Didn’t you notice the hygienists laughing and giving me funny looks when I checked in?”
S – “I just figured that was a normal reaction for people around you. Why are you famous at your dentist’s office?”
E – “Just traumatic events… I kicked him once.”
S – “The dentist?”
E – “No, Janet Reno, yes the dentist!”
S – “What happened?”
E – “He told me all he needed to do was pull out one of my baby teeth and it wouldn’t take long but ended up cutting it into four pieces.”
S – “Ouch, but that’s not that bad.”
E – “And I passed out, it was embarrassing.”
S – “Lots of people pass out at their dentist’s.”
E – “Do they also freak out over having too much Novacaine, run to the lobby, smack their heads on the main desk, conk out cold and then wake up in their dentist’s arms?”
S – “All that here?”
E – “Yeah, last time I was here they asked if they should put a big red x in front of the desk. Apparently I made number three on their list of top five highlights in this office. I bet it’s down to number four now though since he got arrested this summer.”
S – “What?”
E – “Thought you might like that one."
S – “Your dentist is a felon?!”
E – “Say it again but louder, I don’t think the mailman heard you. And my orthodontist committed suicide a while ago too.”
S – “Are your teeth really that bad?” *Edit glares* “So, basically I’m here to…?”
E – “Keep me from getting violent and/or passing out in the lobby…or just generally embarrassing myself.”
S – “Sounds like a full-time job.”
Dentist – “We’re ready for you now.” *leaves*
S – “Was that the felon?”
E – “Yes.”
S – “Aw, no felons have the right to be that good looking…”
E – “Slow down there cowgirl. I’ll be back soon…hopefully.”
S – “Okay, I’ll just be here, building up my tolerance for heedless celebrity gossip. Look, it’s Brad and Jennifer!”
E – “I always was for Team Aniston. I bet if you dig deep enough in those piles you’ll find some about Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Hurley…” *leaves, comes back twenty minutes later to find a red-marker-colored taped ‘x’ in front of the desk* “Oh, You’re dead.” *Sketch smiles and makes a run for it*

Based on a true story. I really am famous at my dentist's office. The main lady at the desk asked if they should put an x in front of the desk and one of the hygienist's heads went up and yelled "that was you?!"

Okay, I'm running out of ideas for favorite things. I have Music, Movies, TV, Books and now Hobbies. Tomorrow I'm thinking Youtube clips or websites or something to that effect. If you have any other suggestions send them my way.

This is a week of my favorite things Day Four: Books

PREPARE FOR A MASSIVE POST and sadly I went through and cut a bunch of stuff...and it's still massive.
Birthday cake at a staff meeting, hooray my day is made!
Was going to head home tonight but the weather has changed my plans.
Looks like you're stuck with me for yet another favorites post.
Quote of the day comes from Sketch - "I want a bagel damn it can't you tell i'm hungry and yes it's lame but that's how you are when you're all whoooo." yeah, not gonna explain that one, other than to say it's not the bagel that she's talking about me being all whoooo over.

This time we'll go with books. Writing's in my blood, my grandpa's a published author (posthumous), my aunts have published books on teaching, and I just love to write. If I could it's what I would do all day...if I wasn't blocked, which I have been a lot lately. that's why you're stuck with me on here and not on physical pages.

So, since I'm a librarian and I'm around books all day I'm expanding my list from 5 favorites to 7 instead. The irony about being a librarian is that I haven't read a single one of these books since I started working there. It's like I'm around them all day the last thing I want to do when I go home is read a book. Which is kind of funny in a weird way.

Anyway, on with the list.
All-time favorites:
7. Harry Potter series - J.K. Rowling
Gotta say I started these before she was big time with the movies and everything and I was hooked. I read each of them in like a day, maybe hours. Mass hysteria but they were just soooo good. And so different from other books at the time which I think is why they became so popular. Aside from her writing style and her characters which are also fantastic. I was hooked.

6. When You Are Engulfed in Flames - David Sedaris
This might be the funniest book I've ever read. I read the entire thing at a craft show and there were many points at which I was physically laughing so loud that I needed to like step back and contain myself so the people around me didn't think I was some psycho just randomly laughing. Highly recommended if you like nonfiction.
"Itch in da scrubs, go giddit!"

5. The Book Thief - Marcus Zuzak
Read this one for an adolescent lit class in college and fell in love with it. It's narrated by Death which totally stuck out to me so you know everyone is going to die. Which is fine, until you meet the characters and want them to somehow just triumph and live forever. It's basically a German take on the whole nazi killing jews thing. And it follows the story of this little girl who's adopted into a German family. I think it was also cool to be reading it for a class and having that debate aspect where you could get others opinions on it too. Our class consensus was a thumbs up.

4. The Westing Game - Ellen Raskin
Another favorite from my childhood, we read this in 8th grade for an English class. I love it because it was the first murder mystery I ever read. So it all took off from there. I was hooked from page one and wanted to read it all the way through but we were supposed to read it in section so we could talk in class. I soooo wanted to know who did it!! And I've recommended it to many people over the years. Gotta love it.

3. The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
Yet another from that adolescent lit class and I think this was the class's favorite. I don't remember anybody not liking it (not like Twilight or Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, sorry ZH not so much for me) and I think it was the most fun I had in that class just because everyone loved it and wanted to talk about it. Although the Twilight love it or hate it debate was fun as well.
I've recommended this book to literally everyone who's asked for a recommendation. Which is a lot because I work in a library...two actually. And I'm stoked for the movie. But the problem with recommending it is that those that I recommend it to also read the next two which they love as well but I haven't yet since I started working soon after college. I know, I know. They're on my list.

2. Runaway Jury - John Grisham
I loved this book! I read this one summer during high school and couldn't put it down. So many twists and turns and the movie was great as well but it was totally different than the book since it was on guns instead of cigarettes. Soooo good! Totally recommend this one who likes fiction on like the court system or lawyers or just good vs. evil. It's fantastic.

1. Women's Murder Club series - James Patterson
"In margaritas veritas. I'm in." Big surprise here. Not really. Look at the tattoo to the right. Lindsay Boxer the detective, Cindy Thomas the reporter, Claire Washburn the ME and Jill Bernhardt the lawyer. All different crime aspects covered so when you put them all together and drown them in margaritas you get what we call the Women's Murder Club.
"So, this outfit have a name?"
..."We're sort of a murder club."
"Lindsay's deputized us."
"The margarita posse."
...."Homicide chicks. That's who we are. That's what we do."
The books that lead to the show...that got cut off too early but the books are still going so it's okay. Actually 10th Reunion comes out soon. If you look at my bookshelves one of the first thing you'll notice (aside from that they're organized yes i'm a librarian get over it) is that these are the only books with tabs in them. Cause I'm a nerd. And I can't really explain the tab system just that it's there and it helps me keep track because sometimes I'll just pick one up and start from a random tab and know exactly what's going on. I love them. I love them. And I love them. And yes, I always recommend James Patterson to anyone looking for a good mystery writer as well.

Books I've read for class and loved:
Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian - Sherman Alexie this was another adolescent lit class special and we all really liked it. It was really funny and the artwork was a nice touch along with the humor.
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen which is basically a rite of passage for an English major. Classic, I did a project on it for my final portfolio because I find her fascinating, yes I'm a nerd. But I loved doing it because I got to come up with musical playlists for each character and I even made a board game for the thing and what else, oh wrote updated versions of the scenes and all that stuff. So much fun. Also a good story, Pride Prejudice and Zombies...or the first half which is all I got finished before I started working.
Great Expectations - Charles Dickens another one for an English major this was for British Lit 2 or 3 I can't remember, I think I took them out of order, but I love this one just because of the crazy old lady who wears the wedding dress every day and acts like she's not crazy. Which she is. And I said that repeatedly in a presentation and everyone loved me. hahaha...another fun English presentation was on Mary Robinson.
Me: "She got paid to be a mistress, I love it!"
Dr. Ashby: "You know, there's a word for that..."
Class: "Ohhhhh!!!"
The Illiad and the Odessey - Homer Thurber class and really, reading anything with Thurber was great because even if you didn't like the book he made you see it in a different perspective so you didn't hate it. did that make sense? not really. But there are really classics that deserve to be classics. A classmate and I did a presentation on the Illiad with sock puppets. Oh yeah. Sock puppets. It was awesome.
Bridge to Teribithia - Katherine Paterson More grade school fun, I cried. and that's all I got.
Anything Shakespeare but especially As You Like It and Twelfth Night
we read As You Like It in high school for English 9 I think and I fell in love with his style and his language and just everything. And Twelfth Night I love just because of all the drama and the back and forth and the mistaken identity and mostly because of yet another presentation for yet another Thurber class (Shakespeare, it was my favorite class of his) where he put us into groups and we had to present each play in a unique way. Our group got Twelfth Night so we divided up the scenes and presented them in like a Whose Line is it Anyway kind of thing with a censored scene (I was the Censored Seductress with the name tag to prove it) an E-True Shakespearian story, a soap opera called 'Days of our Night', silent acting, one segment with the crocodile hunter that we called 'Malvolio Hunter', a scene where I got interrogated in a prison cell while Anna sang in rhyme it was hilarious and I had to keep a straight face, and then the final scene was Mystery Date where all the identities were revealed.

Books I loved growing up and for fun throughout school:
You Belong to Me - Mary Higgins ClarkRead this one I think the same summer I read Runaway Jury. I loved it because I loved the song and I thought it was cool to murder people and tie it to something like that. Not that I'm going to go out and do that but it was still a clever way to tell a story.
All I Really Need To Know I Learned in Kindergarten - Robert Fulghum
Yet another from a summer in high school. I remember reading this one outside on a swing, he's hilarious and this is probably his best work. So if you're looking for good and short nonfiction go for Robert Fulghum.
Princess Bride - William Goldman senior year of high school, class trip to chicago I read it on the plane. I loved the movie so I read the book and there are so many more things in it with the zoo of death and all that, definitely worth reading if you liked the movie.
Carrie - Stephen King yeah, yeah name sake and all that. I read it in grade school and I think it was my first actual adult novel. scared the crap out of me but I was hooked.
Little Girl Lost - Drew Barrymore more high school fun. discovered this book and wrote a report on it. I love Drew, which I'm sure you've picked up since post one, so reading this book was like the best thing ever. Cause she wrote it. It tells all of her life story - up til checking herself into rehab (not for the first time) and doesn't leave out any of the gory details.
Politically Correct Bedtime Stories - James Finn Garner ask the BFF and she'll tell you she only keeps me around for reading her fairy tales in voices.
Julie and Julia - Julie Powell read it during down town of camping with the family, loved it. totally different from the movie which was also good. i attempted her second one "Cleaving" but again, that was after I started working for the library.
The DaVinci Code - Dan Brown read this one and wrote a paper on it for a college class, also totally different from the movie but it's still fantastic. i couldn't put it down.
Heat Wave/Naked Heat - Richard CastleI'm a Castle junkie so when these actually came out to go along with the show I was all over them. Oh crap. That breaks my streak of not finishing anything since I started working, damn. I liked saying that. Oh well, it was worth it. Heat Wave is definitely the best of the two but there are so many more jokes you get if you watch the show.

Holy toast this post is getting long. Well, if you're still around I'll give you the highlights to my favorite plays...which I'm aware aren't books but they're still literature so whatever. I'll make it short.

Favorite Plays:
Arsenic and Old Lace - Joseph Kesselring We had the joy of putting this on my senior year of high school. I played Elaine the minister's daughter who's the fiance to the main character. Soooo much fun!
"There's something about calling for a girl at a parsonage that discourages any man who doesn't embroider."

"For a minister's daughter you sure you a lot about life. Where'd you learn it?"
"In the choir loft."
"I'll explain that to you some time, darling-the close connection between eroticism and religion."
"Religion never gets as high as the choir loft."

The Playboy of the Western World - J.M. Synge oh the joy of Modern and Post-Modern Drama, I loved that class. This was a highlight because this dude comes into town claiming to have murdered his father and everyone loves him. They celebrate him as a hero. Then, when his father shows up not dead they turn their backs on him. Hilarious.

Arcadia - Tom Stoppard such clever writing, two storylines happening at once even though they're decades apart. everything weaves together in the end, stick with it.

On the Verge or The Georgraphy of Yearning - Eric Overmyer my favorite play I read throughout college. These three women take a trip through a jungle and are simultaneously traveling through time as they travel farther and farther through the jungle. "Terra Incognita!" Each character is different and it's just sooo funny.

"Yes, Mary, there are two sorts of people in the world. There are cannibals-and there are lunch."

"Little sasquatch has gone for more snowballs, no doubt!" *hit by snowball* "Ahhh!"
"Baby yeti may have yeti croonies, I think prudence dictates we move on."

"Why is there evil in the world, Alexandra?"
"To thicken the plot." Alex is my hero.

"Alex I believe verse is your province."

"Hang ten. Shoot the pipeline. Curl the Big Kahuna!" Again, Alex is my hero.

"So, when's the shindig?"
"Shindig?"
"I think she means the the authentic suburban charred meat festival you promised us."
"Ah, yes. The bar-be-cue."
and yes, I did write a report on this one as well but it was more focused on the language and how it changes throughout the novel.

Tartuffe - Moliere another presentation where a friend and myself acted out a scene, well two scenes that we combined, for a grade. We got an A it was fantastic. I still remember some of my lines.
"What of Tartuffe then, what of your father's plan?"
"I'll kill myself, if I'm forced to marry that man."
or
"Not Tartuffe! You know I think him-"
"Tartuffe's your cup of tea, and you shall drink him."
"I've always told you everything, and relied-"
"No, you deserve to be tartuffifed."
basically her father wants her to marry this awful man Tartuffe when she's in love with someone else.

here's a bonus if you're still reading.
Books I've read for class that I will never read again aka classics that are overrated:
Moby Dick - Herman Melville no normal person cares how many dimensions a boat has or a whale has. i mean maybe some people but we don't need to read about it in detail in a novel. just no.
Brave New World - Aldous Huxley sorry SuperHumann, loved the discussion with you but the novel was a little like, um...whoa. gross.
Books I've started since working at the library and love so far but still haven't finished them:
Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger Yes this may be the most well-loved novel by serial killers everywhere but screw statistics, it's excellent.
Novel Destinations - Shannon McKenna Schmidt this is cool because it's nonfiction about all the different locations in famous novels
Slaugherhouse-Five - Kurt Vonnegut Kilgore Trout. Need I say more? Even Prentiss is a fan.
You're a Horrible Person, But I Like You: The Believer Book of Advice a gift from my sister, ha! But it's fantastic, people write to celebrities for advice and it publishes their answers.

Okay, more add-ins.
TV - Wipeout, I love the commentary and the big red balls. Hilarious.
And then World's Dumbest, I've already posted a clip from this. I love it, it's where celebrities careers go to die but seriously, it's fantastic. Celebrities do commentary on these stupid clips that people send in and they make lists like the top 20 world's dumbest criminals or 20 world's dumbest brawlers or 20 world's dumbest commercials just that kind of stuff. It's fantastic.
Music - Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (remake classics), Johnny Cash growing up I listened to him all the time my dad is a big fan, Theory of a Deadman I've already posted a song of there's a while ago but everything they do is just epic and awesome. And Saving Abel is also another good band you can jam out to. Plus Stop Making Friends aka Pauley Perrette is freaking awesome. Listen to their song "Fear" and tell me what you think. And um, hello, Glee cast soundtracks? They're all I listen to lately, that show has the best remakes. My most recent favorite is "Don't you want me baby" or "She's not there" but all time it's probably the "Time Warp" (already posted) or "Forget You" (also already posted) with Gwyneth Paltrow (okay I remember typing that name lately so maybe that one's in there) she's got a voice man, I'm stoked she's making a reappearance. I'm a total soundtracks junkie, Glee, Moulin Rouge, Calamity Jane, Oklahoma, Music and Lyrics, Rent, NCIS, Hairspray, Avenue Q, Grease 1&2 (oh, another for the movies post), Coyote Ugly (this is the role for maria bello, i can't even listen to her british accent in mummy 3), Chicago, Mamma Mia (minus pierce brosnan), Rocky Horror, Sister Act, Wedding Singer, Walk the Line even Whip It had a kickass soundtrack, which was Drew's mix tape for the world. Oh crap Whip It! It's derby and it's Drew how did I forget that one? There's a poster on the wall in front of me for crying in the sun. Good thing I'm taking the time to edit these things, otherwise the remainder of the week would be These are a few of my favorite things...that I failed to mention earlier in the week. Which, actually...wouldn't be so bad. I'm still debating what I'm going to do for the rest of the week. Besides hobbies. Or like...yeah no just hobbies. Wow. gonna have to be creative.

This is a week of my favorite things Day Three: Television

Despite spending the day surrounded by white walls and sterilized equiptment my day didn't totally suck. Bonus points for a fun family.
Quotes of the day:
Sarah: "You'd pick up a section of the couch and say, 'well, there's seven.'" My sister on cleaning her house and finding pacifiers

Mark: "I used to say 'Oh Pigeons' it's appropriate cause they're annoying as crap." My brother on swear words growing up

Mandy: "Stick him in the closet with a piece of cheese and a glass of water." My niece about her brother after he was being annoying

Mark: "We'll split the trains four ways, Carrie can have the beer mugs."
Sarah: "I want the Corve."
Me: "Can I have the Bird?"
Mark: "Yes, we'll flip you the Bird." Us jokingly dividing up the inheritance, Corve as in Corvette, Bird as in T-Bird.

Sarah: "Should we just move him into Heritage from here? I'm sure there's an open room." Joking about the nursing home, I won't say what my reply was but I will say Sarah was in tears from laughter.

Okay, so Day Three is all about TV. Even though the only thing I watched today was two minutes of Fox News once I found the station.
Because of work and school and a seldom social life I actually don't watch as much TV as I used to but I still have my favorites.

So, I'll start off with all-time favorites.
1. Women's Murder Club - the genius of James Patterson put on prime-time TV. But, due to the writer's strike and its poor timing it got cut off before it's prime. Luckily, there are still fans out there keeping it alive. Woohoo WMC day May 13th! Awesome kickbutt female cast of Angie Harmon, Paula Newsome, Laura Harris and newcomer Aubrey Dollar brought in comedy, intrigue, and just a kickass show that I wish was still running. My best friend has done character artwork and tattoos for me cause I'm that crazy, see first post. (1 season, 2007-2008)
2. Charmed - I know that sister-witches who vanquish demons doesn't sound all that great but when you add in actresses like Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano plus some comedy and major action you get kick-butt results. Even after Shannen got killed off Rose McGowan totally pulled it off. (8 seasons, 1998-2006)
3. Friends - this one is a classic without needing any explanation. Each character was unique, the writing was fantasic, and the story lines kept you intrigued and coming back for ten seasons. I'm such a nerd, again as told in the first post, quote a line and I'll tell you which episode it's from. (10 seasons, 1994-2004)
4. Just Shoot Me - As you can tell from a lot of my posts on TV I really root for the bitch character and I think it originated from this show. Wendie Malick as Nina Van Horn the take no prisoners fashion model just made me aware of how awesome it could be to be that mean and not even to care because you're still just that awesome. (Following her lead came Jane Lynch in Glee, Natalie Zea in Dirty Sexy Money, Megan Mullally in Will and Grace, Joanna Lumley from Absolutely Fabulous, Lauren Lane from The Nanny, more recently Mary McDonnell in The Closer, or Kyra Sedgwick who's always that way in The Closer, and my alltime hero Holly Hunter in Saving Grace) Back to JSM, even aside from Wendie Malick's character you get Dennis Finch aka David Spade the snarky office assistant, Enrico Colantoni as Elliot the ladies man photographer, George Segal as Jack Gallo the boss, and Laura San Giacomo (also in Saving Grace) who plays the main character, Maya, who is forced to work for her father at Blush Magazine when she goes broke. It's just fantastic. (7 seasons, 1997-2003)
5. Grey's Anatomy - This is the kind of primetime soap opera that builds careers. Had you heard of anyone besides Patrick Dempsey before 2005? Maybe Sandra Oh. But other than them, unless you are into cheesy romance flicks pre-Grey's that starred Katherine Heigl or paid really close attention in Daredevil to catch a glimpse of Ellen Pompeo then I'm gonna go with no. But now, you know all about them just because of this show and its popularity. The drama of ER plus the comedy of Friends gives you the best rated primetime soap opera still running. And yes, me and my friends do compare ourselves to its characters, get over it. (in it's 7th season, 2005-Now)

Favorites shows no longer running:
Will and Grace - great one-liners and an excellent comedy. it actually freaks me out to hear Megan Mullally talk in her actual voice
Absolutely Fabulous - amazing character dynamics, yay for British humor
What I Like About You - my favorite Amanda Bynes role, aside from She's the Man and All That (does anyone else remember that show?)
All That - the kids version of SNL basically, but from the 90's, Amanda Bynes, Nick Cannon and Kenan Thompson were major stars
Saving Grace - the badass detective Hanadarko, I wore random braids in my hair for a summer because of this show, yes i'm a nerd. I wish I was as much of a badass as Grace Hanadarko.
The Nanny - again, i'm a nerd. and it's hilarious. well, Niles and CC are funny, not so much Fran's voice.
Cashmere Mafia - bad timing with the writer's strike similar to WMC but it had potential
Boy Meets World - classic tgif, seasons 1-4 out on DVD now btw (shameless plug)
That 70's Show - another great comedy that built careers for multiple actors, Topher Grace, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Donna Prepon
Gilmore Girls - fast talking family fun, so many pop culture references plus the awesomeness that is Lauren Graham
Firefly - a recent favorite that's so cheesy it's awesome. i love Nathan Fillion.
Charlie's Angels - the original series, I love the cheesy fake fighting and the mystery and just it's just too awesome for words. Plus they're remaking it and anything produced by Flower Films is amazing so I'm stoked!

Still running favorites:
Big Bang Theory - i love the different characters and how they just fit together plus the acting is great, (Kaley Cuoco was on Charmed in its last season) congrats to Jim Parsons for his Golden Globe!
Criminal Minds - okay, so i haven't watched it since they went all 'creative reasons' on AJ/JJ but it's still in my favorites list because of seasons 1-5 even though Prentiss wasn't around until season 2. she's seriously kickass. best character.
Warehouse 13 - another recent favorite that if you give a chance you'd really like too, claudia makes it worth it, she's kind of my idol.
NCIS - does this even need an introduction? Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette and characters like Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo? awesome.
Rizzoli and Isles - gotta say, I still see Sasha Alexander as Kate in NCIS but I can adjust to her as an ME. Plus add in Angie Harmon as a detective again...who i still see as Lindsay Boxer so to me this is just like a messed up show and even though in my mind it shouldn't make sense it's still something i find completely compelling. did you follow that?
Harry's Law - recent favorite, Kathy Bates is a badass.
Bones - i started this show in season three and immediately had to go back and netflix all of the first two seasons. they're excellent with the comedy and the drama - i don't even mind the gore and i'm the queesiest person you'll ever meet
Castle - Nathan Fillion + Stana Katic = awesome, plus i love the cop/writer aspect
The Closer - started watching this show in the first season and fell in love with the characters and the writing and the accents, hysterical. i'm so sad it's the last season. but they're talking spinoff, which only brings in more questions.
Glee - i love musicals. plus Jane Lynch. plus Lea Michelle. plus Chris Colfer. plus plus plus...
Burn Notice - another recent addiction, it's like comedy plus action, very similar to RED with the whole agent being burned and having to find out why.
Wipeout - I started this in the first season when it was just a summer thing. Grams and I watched every week and laughed so hard! I love the commentary and the big red balls. Hilarious.
World's Dumbest, I've already posted a clip from this. My Life in Closed Captions: Text if you make it to your apartment, call if you...

Just a notice: I'll probably be adding on to these throughout the week as I remember more things cause I'm forgetful but mostly because I post these while I'm half asleep then feel like an idiot the next day because I've forgotten something important.
For example: more favorite artists MXPX after raving about them at Warped, Avril Lavigne cuz I'm a nerd for punk music, Spice Girls because yes I was from that generation and I still blast it when it comes up on my headphones. And Eminem who was my favorite rapper for like ever, plus I'm also discovering the genius that is She and Him aka Zooey Deschanel and her partner.
And Movies - Um hello, Harry Potter! Chasing Destiny - awesome Lauren Graham who should also be on my top actors list - because it was totally underrated yet hilarious, Holiday movies of How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the original animated classic) and Hocus Pocus because Bette Midler is fantastic. Add in First Wives Club for also that reason. John Tucker Must Die I watched every day for like a year, but like more than once a day each of those days, add Brittany Snow to my actress list - have you seen her in Harry's Law?! Music and Lyrics the brilliance of Drew and Hugh Grant plus an awesome soundtrack. Never Been Kissed, another brilliant Drew movie, all of the Pirates trilogy that I might have mentioned Johnny Depp is a god amongst men. The Princess Bride is another classic along with the first two Rush Hour movies (the third wasn't as good) and um, hello, I'm a total Star Wars nerd. Like a Star Wars nerd seriously, who's such a nerd that she started a debate at work about Wars vs. Trek. I'm a Wars fan as are the rest of my siblings (except Sarah I'm sure I'll get the 'not me, just the rest of you losers' comment here soon). And the Zorro movies with Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta Jones were also fantastic. Another addition to the favorite actress list is Sasha Alexander. My laptop is named Kate for crime-ony! and now Rizzoli and Isles, I just really like her.

Seriously, don't know how I missed all of those, but they'll be added to the lists tonight.

Aaannnnd now that all the excitement is over...for now. I'm out for the night. Halfday at work tomorrow plus staff meeting then heading back to the white walls and sterilized equiptment.

Turn around bright eyes.

This is a week of my favorite things Day Two: Movies

Donuts in my mailbox and Angry Birds on my ipod. All in all an excellent day.

So, day two, as requested means Movies. Since apparently she thinks she knows me well enough to know what they will be. Which she probably does, but I'm going to post them anyway.

5. RED
I guess it's been promoted to the top five since I fall asleep watching it every night. You'd think that means something, right?
Preview:

"Old man my ass."

4. Get Smart
Great comedy, but Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway in an action movie? No one expected them to pull it off but they did. Fantastic acting, awesome cast, great script and so much fun to watch.

"Missed it by that much."

Yes I'm doubling up the next two even though they're separate movies and I love them both I figured I could fit in more movies this way, deal.

3. Charlie's Angels/Charlie's Angels Full Throttle
Okay, so I'm a nut for Drew. Like website and fanclub kind of nut. Certifiable kind of nut. And I'm also a nut for the Charlie's Angels series - own the dvds, went trick or treating with two friends as the Angels - so when you put the two together I was all over it.

"And that's kickin' your ass."

"Is this grape? It's grape! It's grape, yessir!"

2. Mummy 1/Mummy Returns
Awesome acting, awesome cast, excellent script, what more could you ask for? Plus I love Egypt! I was obsessed with it all through grade school and high school, it's the only thing I ever wrote research papers on, it's on the list of places I want to see before I die. So, mixing Egyptology with a cast like Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo was like a dream come true.

"I may not be an explorer or an adverturer, or a treasure seeker or a gunfighter Mr. O'Connell but I am proud of what I am."
"And what is that?"
"I....am a librarian!"
Yes that was by memory, check my first post I can quote all of the first two but not the third because it's crap.

Honestly, it adds just the right amount of comedy in with action plus history, you learn a lot about Egypt and its customs.

1. RENT
Did you really not see this coming? Idina Menzel? Taye Diggs? Favorite song of all time. And, despite a certain coworker's opinion haha, a musical of some sort should be on everybody's list.

Drama + Music + Humor = Awesome

Okay, honorable mentions:
Whip It! - It's derby and it's Drew
The Wedding Singer - more Drew plus the awesomeness that is Adam Sandler
Robin Hood: Men in Tights - You changed it to Latrine?
Monty Python and the Holy Grail - Oh yes, it's-a very nice-a!
The Replacements - I love love love this movie! great football and comedy
The Proposal - Sandra Bullock plus Ryan Reynold my BFF was in heaven
Blind Side - another great Sandra Bullock flick
Out Cold - AJ before she was AJ/JJ
Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy - But why's the rum gone?
Moulin Rouge - Ewan and Nicole screaming at each other in a giant elephant
Chicago - Cell block tango man, cell block tango.
Sister Act - so funny
10 Things I Hate About You - early Julia Stiles, it only went up from here
Harry Potter series - excellent acting with a great script
Star Wars saga - so much of a nerd I started a debate at work on Wars vs. Trek
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the original animated classic) always watch on Xmas
Hocus Pocus always watch on Halloween
First Wives Club - You climb and you climb and you don't get anywhere! worth it just to watch them sing and dance to You Don't Own Me
John Tucker Must Die - I watched everyday for over a month
Music and Lyrics - Drew singing with Hugh Grant, too much fun
Never Been Kissed - Oh, if we could all go back to high school and change things...
The Princess Bride - As you wish!

Favorite Classics:
Clue - To make a long story short- Too late!
Calamity Jane - I bet her mother spun'em!
Arsenic and Old Lace - Twelve...twelve?!
Oklahoma - She got ma'am-d in a proposal but it's okay cause it was still romantic

Favorite actors/actresses:

Jennifer Aniston
Rachel Weisz
Sasha Alexander
Angie Harmon
Aubrey Dollar

These are a few of my favorite things - Day One: Music

So, I spent my day off at the farmhouse. I got some more fun shirts from my truly amazing brother and my awesome sister-in-law. Then, ate some good ice cream cake with the family. There's my weekend.

Okay, so I was inspired by my last post - aka literal music video and Mindwalk Blvd - to post more of my favorite things. But, there are too many of them to post all at once so I figured I could span it into a week. Maybe it will help distract me from reality and the significance of the next few days.

I have a lot of favorite things, music, movies, tv, books, hobbies, etc. Tonight I'm gonna focus on music. Music is kind of a big deal to me. It's relaxing, it's fun, it's catchy, sometimes annoying aka "Do the Bookdrop", but still something I can't live without. One of my favorite quotes from college came from this girl I had one class with total.
Best Friend: You know the girl with the headphones who stares at her feet when she walks?
Girl: Oh yeah, she's so sarcastic I love her!
When someone knows who you are just by those descriptions it means something.
Anyway, I thought it was funny, but yes, headphones are constantly in my ears or my pockets because sometimes I just like to jam out, you know? Sometimes it drives people nuts but hey, that's me.

I thought my first segment should be about favorite songs. I have lots of favorite songs but only a few all-time favorite songs. I've lowered it down to five, some of them you've already heard on this blog but some will be new.

Here's my top five:
1. Tracy Chapman's "Give Me One Reason"
I'm not much for blues, but this song, it just gets to me with the rhythm and the guitar. I wish I could play like her.

2. Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody"It so sad that we didn't get to see her career go as far as it would have. I love the beat of this one and the awesome dance moves in the video, haha.

3. The Wreckers "Leave the Pieces"Here's the live version, you can find the official video/recording on youtube.
I loved Michelle Branch already, but when she joined with Jessica Harp to form the Wreckers she became a whole different kind of awesome. Her style totally changed and turned a bit more country which I think she pulls off pretty well.

4. Joshua Radin's "Only You" I'm more a fan of the acoustic version available on itunes but this one is good as well. Remake of a classic that he totally does justice.

5. "Out Tonight" from Jonathan Larson's broadway classic "Rent"
But, again, no embed so sending you to youtube with this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LroABeeh99E
copy and paste

You know how you can have all time favorites and then new ones that you love but they're so new you don't think you can classify them as all time?
Some of those for me are "Forget You" the Glee cast version because Gwyneth Paltrow is wicked awesome. See this: My Life in Closed Captions: "I'll meet you there, I'm gonna go jam out to Gwyn...
And then "Lover, Lover" by Jerrod Niemann My Life in Closed Captions: What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all ab...

Here's the list of honorable mentions
Reflecing Light - Sam Phillips (want to listen go here, My Life in Closed Captions: Make the lambs stop screaming!
Whiskey Lullaby - Brad Paisley and Alison KrauseGoodnight and Go - Imogen Heap
I Don't Feel Like Dancin' - Scissor Sisters
Won't Go Home Without You - Maroon 5
Bring on the Wonder - Susan Enan
More than Words - Extreme
You Don't Know Me - Jann Arden
Call Me When You're Sober - Evanescence
Band of Gold - Anna Nalick
Head Over Heels - April McLean
Something To Talk About - Bonnie Raitt
Anything by MXPX, Avril Lavigne, Eminem or the Spice Girls (yes I am from that generation)
She & Him - Zooey Deschanel is awesome.
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes remake classic songs
Johnny Cash - anything grew up listening to him
Theory of a Deadman - everything they do is epic and awesome. I've already posted one of theirs a while ago in one of my first Music Rec's My Life in Closed Captions: Happy , Happy New Year! everything they do is just epic and awesome.
Saving Abel - another good band you can jam out to
Stop Making Friends - aka Pauley Perrette is freaking awesome. Listen to their song "Fear" and tell me what you think.
Anything by Doris Day - I always listen to her stuff on Xmas, but especially the Calamity Jane soundtrack.

I'm a very soundtracks kind of girl. There's a lot of those on my playlists,
lately it's been a lot of Glee, aside from that there's
Moulin Rouge, Calamity Jane, Oklahoma, Music and Lyrics, Rent, NCIS, Hairspray, Avenue Q, Grease 1&2 Chicago, Mamma Mia (minus pierce brosnan), Rocky Horror, Sister Act, Wedding Singer, Walk the Line even Whip It had a kickass soundtrack, which was Drew's mix tape for the world.

Okay, you're probably aleady overloaded so I'm gonna crash and burn.
More favorites yet to come tomorrow. I'm thinking movies...or maybe television, I do get to watch shows online tomorrow that I missed tomorrow.

Law of Averages + Mindwalk Blvd + Literal Videos = a Crazy Kind of Awesome

Worked halfday - you know, eventually, the law of averages is going to work in my favor and everything will be shelved at eye level. I told that to Space Cadet, she was like "Maybe in your lifetime! I'll be dead by then!" I'm gonna keep the faith, eventually it has to happen, right?

Okay, so there's an interesting story behind these videos.
I actually discovered these guys a few years back when I was working on a story. When I write things, like actually have a decent idea that I like, I research my characters, google their names or others names to find pictures so I know what they look like. Sometimes it brings inspiration. yes, I'm a nerd. Anyway, I picked the name "Tyler Hudson" as the geeky sidekick to my main character and googled him and this is what I found. Amazing.

This is Mindwalk Blvd, three boys all in their early teens, and they rock.
This is my favorite of their songs, it's called "Crimson Sunset" and it gets stuck in your head!

They do a lot of covers but this is one of their originals, I bought it as soon as it was available on itunes. Another good one is their cover of YYZ, awesomeness.

Check this out if you get a chance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8TSsiD_ozY
This was the first vid I'd ever watched of theres, 2:55 is pure awesomeness, but it's what got me interested in the first place, then found their website and all their myspace stuff and it took off from there. That kid is just a crazy kind of awesome. Seriously.

Okay, my first: YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS VIDEO moment. Total Eclipse of the Heart the Literal Version These guys are fantastic, they have a lot of these - Meat Loaf, Beatles, Michael Jackson, even one for Jingle Bell Rock - he takes the music video and rewrites the lyrics so that they match. I came across it, also a while ago, somewhere in cyberland and I've shared it with a lot of people already, but oh man, it's just too good not to post.
But, since it won't let me embed the original, you're stuck with the second version with the random cat watching. Don't ask. Full-screen it and you'll be fine.

Here's the original - aka, same thing but minus the cat - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj-x9ygQEGA
Yes, I'm aware it is a little weird at times, but altogether it's hilarious.

"Fonzie's been clooooned..."

"Alright, which one of you preppies put gold dust in my fencing helmet?" "Ha-Ha!"

"It started out as Hogwarts now it's Lord of the Flies!" "I hated that book."

"Mullet with head lights? Over-surprised guuuyyyyy, weirded out..."

Here's my second favorite, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJz0q8O5PzM
Jingle Bell Rock

okay, I should stop posting. I actually get to sleep in tomorrow without my cat jumping on me for once, wow.

"It sunk, we're over it!"

Wow, 23. Don't really feel any different, are you supposed to?
I think I was eating a fruit rollup and watching Hot in Cleveland at midnight. At 3:09 I was staring at my phone during break, that's when I was officially 23, I cheered, the girl next to me probably thinks I'm crazy. It was funny, I walked into class, gave the library goddess her iced coffee and she gave me a giant cookie that said happy birthday on it. Awesome!

Quotes of the day:
"Context is in the eye of the beholder"
"Let's talk about half that cookie..."
"There's a lot of large type books on treadmills out there."
"Why are we looking up magazine articles on the Titanic? It sunk, we're over it...Why would you go to that movie? We know how it ends! I can save you some money, it sinks!"
"You can't update Huckleberry Finn!" "Oh but you can...and they did."
"Interoperability...haha, FACE!"
"It's more like fun than like a torture manual."

After class I met up with some family for dinner then headed to my apartment and my fat cat. He was happy to see me until after he got his supper, then he didn't care anymore.

Tomorrow is halfday then heading out to the farmhouse since Monday we're closed for Presidents Day. Love working for the city, awesome.

Get on your bikes and ride!

"There it isn't!"

Lost my juice. It became like a treasure hunt before opening. I need one of those tool belts I could put it in so I don't lose it again.

Quote of the day comes from my supervisor:
"A joyous observation on the day of your birth."
"What?"
"Happy birthday."
"Oh, thanks!"

I LOVE HOT IN CLEVELAND!! Oh man, hysterical! Betty White is amazing as ever but with the other three - I mean, I loved Wendie Malick in Just Shoot Me and basically everything else she's been in but it's like the role was written for her. It's like Nina Van Horn all over again except this time her name is Victoria and she's an actress. Then Daphne from Frasier, aka Jane Leeves, plays Joy the awful british hair expert. She's not a british hair expert but she's british and she does hair, or rather removes it, and she's awful, but hilarious. Then Valerie plays the lead, Melanie, who's this klutzy writer who really means well. Then of course there's Betty White who plays the caretaker of the estate that they are renting. She and Betty White go back and forth a lot. Basically, they're from LA and they're on a plane to France but it has to make an emergency landing in Cleveland and when they hit the town and everyone loves them they decide to stay. You have to check it out, awesome.

"Oh shutup, I hear music swelling."

"Just because I'm chained to the fence doesn't mean I can't bark at the dogs!"

"God I hate jocks!"
"You were married to a wide receiver!"
"I still don't know what sport that is!"

"But the funnel, that's what makes the cows fly!" (tornado)

Fantastic, seriously look into it. There are so many good lines and the actresses are constantly cracking up. I'm wondering how much is ad-libbed.

Soooo, tomorrow...class...then who knows. I guess there's not really a plan anymore since everyone's sick.
I feel like I should stay up til midnight at least. So I'm up. Submitted my paper when I got home from work, I should probably konk out soon since I have class at 1. Woohoo? I'm sure it'll be fine.

More later.

Firestorms in February

We're in a severe weather alert, but not the kind you're thinking. What is wrong with this picture? February, from the Latin "Februa" meaning Snow, Snow, Snow! Okay, I made that up, but still, 70 degrees in February?! That's just mental, right? Maybe it will actually be a decent temperature on Saturday...doubtful.
Moving on.

Dear Blogspot,
Today I was a ninja of awesome.
Packed up the large type, pulled all the holds and expired holds, plus checked in the whole bookdrop all before 10AM. After that it was cake...not. But fun. And there was cake! Well, brownies, as people brought food to celebrate the February birthdays, thanks everybody! I feel special. The cookies were excellent, and I'm still waiting to try those ass-kicking peanuts with the picture of the donkey on the cover. I'll save that for some time tomorrow probably at lunch. It'll be my mid-day jolt.

Then, after work and working on paper and all that went over to sister's house to watch RED which I convinced her into buying and they loved it! Like the whole family was quoting it, hilarious. "Poop to that!"

So, tomorrow means more work, then final touches to paper before I post it (which I'm putting off until the library goddess gets back to me which is my excuse for procrastinating) then I have a social life, hooray! Mmm...burgers and Glee...awesomeness.

Favorite quotes today:
Guard talking about drunks in the bus stop: "It could have gotten really bad...like poking him the nose...or stabbing someone..."

And just because I saw someone wearing some today I have to say, I totally agree with Nina on this one.
Maya: "Competition brings out the worst in people!"
Nina: "Actually bike shorts bring out the worst in people..."
(Just Shoot Me, season three, episode twenty-one "Softball")
I always think of that quote when I see bikeshorts. Awful.

Baby, Baby, Baby, NOOO!!!

Soooo.... pretty sure my neighbors think I'm nuts. Started on my paper, just have to add final touches tomorrow after work when I get more info on Reference USA and how to cite it. After that I caught up on my shows, aka Castle, Glee, Harry's Law, good episodes all around.
Castle - Beckett quotes F. Scott Fitzgerald aka the quote I carry around in my back pocket, literally.
Glee - Mercedes and Rachel performed "Take me or leave me" from Rent plus Sue danced and sang in a flannel tracksuit.
Harry Law - Harriet goes all rambo and tanks her defense, and while getting dragged toward the holding cell by the bailiff she screams, "You're not gonna put me in a cell with my client are you? Cause he kills people!"
Anyway, they probably think I'm nuts because there was a lot of commentary (meaning screaming) coming from me while usually I'm pretty quiet. Except during Husker games. Or if I'm listening to music...which is always, but usually it's into headphones...so yes. Quiet, I'm a quiet neighbor. My cat, when he bangs on the door, he has a mind of his own. But I'm quiet. Anyway, I was stoked about Beckett reciting my favorite quote (yes i'm a nerd and a writer so i have a favorite quote) so there was some yelling there, I laughed hysterically at Harriet's quote about her client but my outbursts while watching Glee are probably why my neighbors think I'm messed up because at first it was, "Oh, god no, not Bieber!" but then like ten minutes later I was so excited for Rent. So there was a lot of shouting. Who doesn't shout for Rent, honestly? Probably a lot of people. But again, I'm a nerd and saw it live. Took my roommate and some college friends plus a high school one, it was fantastic. Surprised them with tickets actually. I think I pulled off the secret 'til we pulled up to the theater which is pretty impressive. Except Schwartz, I needed her cause I was freaking out. Everybody else I got pretty good.

Anyway, I wanted to post that clip as it is awesome, but I couldn't find it so you're stuck with this one. Because I had to suffer through it you do too. My main problem now is before I could say I had never heard the whole song. I don't listen to the radio, so if it weren't for my niece and her Bieber Fever - well, past love of Bieber now apparently he's lame - I wouldn't even know of him. Now I have to actually claim to have heard the whole song all the way through and not hated it. Well, Sam's version anyway. He's not so bad. But don't worry, I'm not gonna go out and do anything drastic like listen to the original.
Here's Sam and his awesome dance moves that I'm guessing are what Bieber does.

Other than writing the paper and catching up on shows my day also consisted of searching for a new messenger bag online, found a cool one, and ordering my bridesmaids dress for the aforementioned roommate's wedding as she is getting married in July. Fun stuff.

Quote of the day comes from Idina Menzel for her double appearance as Rachel's mom in Glee and Maureen in Rent: Moo with me.
Unfortunately she didn't make an appearance in this one, but it was still kind of funny watching Rachel sing as Maureen.

Heart of Glass

Yesterday aka Valentine's Day I spent working then went over to eat crab legs and watch Despicable Me with my family. There was soooo much food! And that's actually a pretty funny movie.
Aannnd time with family means more quotes.
"I'm going crazy."
"While you're there look for Maynard."
"Oh, I think she's dead." Joey and Me

"This little piggy, I don't know what he did but he did it! And this little piggy went all Porkchop karate!" Joey

"Did you just turn that down with your butt?"
"Yes, my butt has magic powers."
"That's fantastic."
"My butt or the magic powers?" Oldest sister and Me

Day two and my Valentine's Day flower is still alive and kicking. We'll see how long that lasts.

Tuesday meant split shift, and as much as I wanted to be productive between them I instead spent the majority of the time on the phone. Cause apparently I'm a delicate flower or a pane of glass - both of those used today to describe me.

Song of the day.

Today I have two 'Quote Of The Day's.
The first comes from my second sister: "Sounds like the appropriate amount of freakage."

The second comes from Angela Montenegro since I've started watching season one again.
Brennan: He thinks just because Masruk's wife started working out and had a little makeover, she's having an affair.
Angela: Hmm, and how long were they married?
Booth: Eleven years.
Angela: I'm with him.
Brennan: There's no concrete proof.
Angela: Boobs perkier?
Booth: Mmm hmm.
Brennan: I don't believe this. If you're so sure, then why didn't you confront her?
Angela: Because if she and her boyfriend were involved, she would warn him.
Booth: Very good.
Angela: I'm a constant surprise.
(Bones, season one episode two "The Man in the SUV")

Tomorrow I only work in the morning, then I get to spend the rest of the day writing my paper for Friday. Cause I'm trying not to be the procrastinator I was in college. And it's working 40/40 on both assignments so far. Huzzah! That probably won't last much longer so I'm celebrating now. And at some point in the day I have to go get Carter more food.

Weekend plans keep changing, aside from class I mean. Maybe we'll do something at the farmhouse. That'd be nice. Except I have to work again on Sunday. But then have Monday off. Hmmm.... Still figuring things out. I'm not actually all that big on birthdays, especially this year with all the crap. I'd rather Mom just tell us what to do and I just show up. That's be nice.

I'm exhausted. And I actually wasn't all that productive today, aside from work which I actually did a lot since there were lists galore.

I should probably eat something at some point. But I don't feel like cooking, soooo ice cream? Mmm...sherbet. Sounds good.

Blame it on your heart

A great song for Valentine's Day...haha. And it's stuck in my head, so here you go.

"Blame it on Your Heart" by Patty Loveless
That's a great name. And such awesome 90's fashion designs there. Awesome.

"Those are gonna be some weirdass dreams..."

Camp J 2010 quote from my awesome cousin - there's more of a story to it actually but it involves port-a-potties in the dark with only a flashlight and it was awkward so we were talking and she was like "They can probably hear us talking." (about the kids) so I said "We're just commentary in their dreams" and she replied "Those are gonna be some weirdass dreams..." It made the song...which I have yet to post here, will have to work on that.
Be prepared for a massive post.

Today was excellent, we were really busy so it flew by and it was just a fun day. There were so many people because it's soooo nice outside. And everyone was in a good mood, so it made the day exciting. Even more exciting is that I'm only in the morning tomorrow, then I get to spend the rest of the day with some of my family playing TMNT/MarioKart/Just Dance and eating crab legs. I know you're all super jealous.

But, when I showed up for work today, all I could think about was this dream I had last night. Which I didn't remember - even though I put them in my phone - until I entered the building. Because it was about work. Well, sort of. Basically, myself and two male coworkers broke into song in the middle of the work day at the desk. And the song happened to be "Roll out the barrel"... Fantastic, right?! Anyway, the dream just felt like this big musical which made walking up to that desk almost comical this morning. Thankfully, the two male coworkers who were singing with me weren't there today so I wouldn't have to explain to them why I was laughing hysterically when I saw them. Just because it's not a very them kind of thing to do. Which makes it even funnier.
Anyway, so when I was on break I was reading through my dream log thing (I don't know what else to call it) that I keep in the notes section of my phone. It's basically just what the dream was about and if I can remember any of the lines or whatever, so that when I'm really bored I read them and try to remember. Some of the more recent ones are really funny - I'm not sure what's causing that. But some memorable ones are:
-"Isn't everything better with a call number?" I think that's one of my favorites but I don't remember who said it, probably Superwoman
-"Put a doily on top" yeah I don't remember that one at all
-"There are two dead bodies under the bed." "It's your bed!" yeah, don't remember that either but it sounds exciting!
-"Daniel eats worms" that one doesn't surprise me as much since he's a boy in grade school and you never know (one of my kids from the musicals, speaking of should probably start work on that soon)
-"Boys singing pirates sent to wrong place for initiation" ....hmmm....???
-"Let's say I do believe you and he did kick you in the head which he clearly didn't, where's the mark?" That's another one of my favorites
-"I'm single Abby, I'll do it." Um? Curious... some of these I really wish I could remember
Okay this one is poetic in a creepy way - "Sometimes I want to reflect myself in bed, lean against my head, split myself in two, for the aftermath of you." ???
-"Well, I'm definitely not his mother!" I'm just not gonna comment on that one
-"Ma! Turn your ringer down!" This one I remember! George from Seinfeld was yelling to his mother over her ringing phone...but that's all I remember
-"How did you meet?" "Camp J. We hated each other, then we started dating." Another one I want to remember.
-"Someone had to step in and teach these children good literature!!" that one just gives me flashbacks to my Children's Lit class in college
hahahahaha I'm scared - "Satan has a thing for redheads..."
-"Are we going to get in trouble?" "Just tell them you were the one waving the flag." I remember that one!! I don't remember what the trouble was about but I remember asking Superwoman if we were going to be in trouble and that was her answer.
here's another poetic one - "You say that you love me but you don't really care. You say that you love me but you are never there. You say that you love me you're always in my head. You say that you love me, I don't care, get out of my bed." hahaha
-"Why Wyatt Erp?" "It's a good name!" someone was naming their kid, can't remember who
-"Jimmy Fallon as santa sesame street xmas crossword writer mean." what?!
-"Go with your gut Agent Larkin" WHO IS AGENT LARKIN?!
-"I can kick some ass if you want. It's twice as funny when they're taken down by a woman." All I remember about that one was that it was Amanda Bynes who said it and we were standing in a Dollar General. I did mention these were weird dreams, right?
-"You sure you want to sit with me?" "I've been here before, we'll get out alive, I promise." I remember in that one I was totally kickass and took down some dudes
-"Have I really only been complaining about this one year?" this was when I dreamed that they had camp moved onto the top of a giant ice sculpture, I have no idea why.
-"That's not dad, I promise you I saw him earlier. I know where he is." "Is he at Elaine's?" "No he's dead." This one was like the scariest dream I've had in a while, these people came to the farmhouse, killed dad, then went to kidnap mom but I intercepted them and they played his voice over a recorder thing telling her to go with them but it was like one of the voice changer things.
-"I fight for the microfilm reel and run" hmmm...work?
-"Are you in town for the Telli convention?" "No, are you in it?" "Yes." "How is it?" "Awful but great." What's a telli convention?
-"My family has an obsession with cards and Criminal Minds" I remember really really liking that one but that's all I remember
Then there's just one that says "old family relatives singing at night" I don't exactly know what to think about that one.

YES I KNOW I DREAM A LOT, get over it.

Anyway, moving on

I grew up kind of a the Mamas and the Papas nut. I know a lot about them, mostly because I think the whole romance, cheating, then more romance thing was kind of funny. I think maybe I'm a little more interested in classic music because of the age gap in my family. I grew up on the Beatles and the Beach Boys, and Aretha and all that. But I listened to this song and "Dedicated the the one I love" every night before I went to bed for like a year. Seriously. I just love this song - and that one - and thought it was fitting for the post.

Quote of the day comes from a work-friend: "It's 2011, you can't just go getting married all willy-nilly!"

Hope you all have a great night.

Make the lambs stop screaming!

Work was fun - got to be at one place for half an hour before I was sent over to the other to cover for more sickness. It actually flew by pretty quickly as there was a steady flow of patrons.

But tonight was just hilarious. We went to our favorite Mexican place for Jalapeno Margaritas!! And by we I mean my sisters, my mom and my cool aunt who brought us Valentine's day presents. Hooray for liquor and fun socks! And ducks that light up, can't forget about the ducks - I actually have a collection of ducks from her now - there are two in my car from both graduations and now I'll have to add this one as well.
The food was awesome and massive so half of my meal is in a box in my fridge. I think I have yet to finish a meal there - I get the same thing every time and half of it always ends up in my fridge. But it's excellent. Steak fajitas with a jalapeno margarita is like the perfect meal. I'm debating where we should go for dinner next weekend as it's my choice, but I think two weekends of Mexican in a row would probably not be smart. So many options... mmmm...sushi?....mmmm.... Dad would probably prefer burgers or something. Which is good, I like burgers. Will have to do some research this week.

Aaannd of course anything that involves family brings on some new fun quotes that made me laugh, cringe, and almost choke on my margarita.
My mom bought my friend - well our friend - some flowers for what she thought was her birthday even though her birthday is in October. Which I told her. After she asked if she had the date right. So she called them back and changed it to "Happy Valentines Day" flowers instead. Quick thinking really. But I've been teasing her ever since, as did the rest of the table.
Mom: "There's no way this isn't coming out! You're going to tell her anyway!"
2nd Sister: "If she doesn't I'll look up her number and do it!"

More Warped bag drama
Me: "Then I'll sew it back together myself!"
2nd Sister: "Can I be there for that?"
and she would be....the one who's holding the first aid kit
"Ooo, tickets to that please!" (Penny, Big Bang Theory)

Then there was a whole conversation about being "Foundation Free" as my cool aunt calls it, which I will totally totally not repeat. Ever. Awkward.
Cool aunt: "Totally checking out your blog tomorrow..."

Oldest sister: "She's got the biggest bajoingas at this table!"
Don't ask.

And the repeated line from my mother over and over - "Don't put that in the blog!"
Ha! Take that!

I've been listening to a lot of new music this week, I love working in a library. But I think my music rec of the night is gonna go back to the past.
Love this song - Sam Phillips "Reflecting Light"

not a video video but its the song that counts.

have a good night.

This is a song about loooooove....

Halfday that felt a bit like a wholeday in the beginning but I think that's because I chose a fruit smoothie over coffee this morning. Madness. Falling asleep while walking meant dragging my feet again, dang. I was making such progress on the whole don't-drag-your-feet-you're-killing-your-shoes thing. Not really. Sometimes I just catch myself cause I hear the dragging so I try walking like a normal person until I zone out and do it again.
As there is not much to talk about today, aside from shelving, scanning YA stuff, doing laundry and dishes I won't bore you completely with more rambling.
So, moving on.
Here's a fun clip I found and I'm posting it because I think it's funny.

This is Charlie who was challenged to write/record a song using only his voice and household items as instruments. Pretty creative - I love the Doctor Who police box. Tardis! I've been a fan of his for a while but I'm posting this now since Valentine's Day is like soon so it sounded fitting. The other videos on his channel are pretty funny as well - lots of "Challenge Charlie"s and songs and stuff. You should check it out.

"Thus the basis of its appeal!" name that Julia Stiles reference that for some reason is in my head and makes me really want to watch that movie...

New Shoes, the Cheese Speech, Warped Tour and MXPX

So I felt like a total dork today - and yesterday - cause I got these new shoes and I like them. So I'm trying not to drag my feet and ruin them.

Which is awful and hard and ridiculous.

It's ridiculous that it's this hard to walk like a normal person.

But I have to start because it kills my shoes and my jeans. The backs break open inside the shoe so there's big holes and the bottoms get worn off of the backs like my jeans. Then my sister looks at them and says we have to go shopping and I totally don't like clothes shopping cause people make me try things on.

So, less dragging feet = less damage to shoes and jeans which also = less time in an awkward dressing room while there are people outside waiting to critique me.

But I feel like everyone is watching me walk like I'm this weird awkward weirdo.

It took me two minutes to come up with another word that could come after 'awkward' and got nothing. So W.A.W. it is. I like it.

But I can change. I am right now - eating eggs and toast for supper, I used to hate eggs. I still do. But I'm eating them anyway. Maybe it's just cheesy eggs that I can't eat. But that's because I don't like cheese. But I do like cheese.

Crap.

Are you following any of this?

Does that mean I have to give you the speech? I did say there was a speech attached to that one in my first post. See My Life in Closed Captions: *Insert Clever Title Here*

I could go on for probably half an hour because that's the length of my average ramble so I'll give you the short version.

I like cheese but I don't like cheese.

Melted cheese is disgusting but I love grilled cheese sandwiches.

But only if they're dipped in tomato soup.

I like regular cheese on like crackers and stuff so maybe it's just the melted that gets to me. It's like goo. I don't like cheesy eggs but that's probably because I don't like eggs... Which apparently now I do.

But I really don't.

Only if they're with toast.

Or like in a cake or something.

Like that Guy dude from the Food Network.

That's the short version, I'll stop there.

I'm also mourning the loss of my awesome black Warped bag.

The strap broke so it's been bring-your-backpack-to-work day. And probably will be again tomorrow.

I don't do purses. No. Messenger bag all the way. I've had it since '05. I got it in Denver at Warped Tour. My oldest sister says that no matter if she sews it it will bust again. So I'll send it home with Mom to have her look at it.

6 years man.

That's a serious relationship.

I can't just give up on it completely and jump in with a new bag. That's not right.

So, in honor of the bag's memory and possible reinstatement if fixable I'm posting this picture.

Commemorating its origin and the fun I had with my friends while hanging out with cute drummers, getting overloaded with free stuff, and listening to Billy Idol (yes I saw him live), My Chemical Romance (yes I saw them live), Hawthorne Heights, Simple Plan and the whole reason I got the bag - MXPX - which was branded awesomely on the cover.

I don't want to get emotional.

*fake tears*

It was just a bag.

It was just a bag.

But really, it wasn't just a bag. I still have the stuff I got from Warped in the back pocket - stickers, flyers, even a map of Denver for a certain friend who got lost on the way of meeting me there.

That is definitely on my list of favorite things I've ever done.

That'd be an interesting blog post - favorite life moments...hmmmm...later maybe.

Anyway, I love MXPX. "Panic" is their best cd - in my mind anyway. "Wrecking Hotel Rooms" was in my ipod on repeat for months. The lyrics to the verses are ridiculous but the chorus is awesome and has a good melody - which is the epitamy of punk rock really. The lyrics don't make sense but it sounds cool. So you go with it. Haha.

They have a website...ooo, I see new merchandise in my future. Maybe a new bag. It won't be the same but it will have to do.

Aaaannnd she's out. For the night. More tomorrow, have a good one.

Joe Studley and the Lost in Transit

So we decided to form a band today at work. I did the lost in transit list and we discussed how that would be a cool band name so the QofA is gonna play flute, my Glee-loving boss will play trumpet, my other boss is gonna play piano, I'll play guitar and Joe Studley is gonna be our lead singer. He's gonna do impressions of his favorite bands, we think it'd be exciting. Now all we need is a drummer. But we'll call ourselves "Joe Studley and the Lost in Transit" or just "Lost in Transit" I'm partial to the Joe Studley version just because that nickname is so funny. He used it to describe someone and now it's sticking to him. Am I the only one who hasn't heard that expression before?

Music rec of the day:
"Something good can work" by Two Door Cinema Club

very catchy song, even though they look like they're thirteen.

Superwoman told me she was proud of me today. That's all I got.

What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?

Like really? What would that say about life?

Hooray for a split shift! Went in twice and spent the time between writing. Which I miss immensely. But working in public service is always good for inspiration and humor.
Got to work with Space Cadet again tonight. She called me dirt. Then said I'm below dirt, mining for minerals. It's not as bad as it sounds when it's in context of what we were talking about, but out of context is what I gave her crap for. It's funny because two days ago she called me her kid - we matched with like the same color green shirts jeans and red hair as did the QofA we should have taken a group picture - then earlier tonight she called me a wizkid and then like ten minutes later I was dirt. But it's worth it cause now I get to say "She called me dirt...." in a sad voice every time I see her.

The song of the day I listened to repeatedly while writing more adventures of Sketch and Edit. It's like relaxing, I love the deep voice. It zenned me out. So I'm posting it. This one came out last year. He's probably wildly popular - like I said, I don't listen to the radio - but I do enjoy this song.

Lover, Lover by Jerrod Niemann
