I could write a blog. I have thoughts.

Life at the library, adventures with friends and other hysterics...

Sunday, September 30, 2012

oh baby, my sweet baby, you're the one.

Got to spend the day at the home branch with Glee-Loving Boss.

And yes, we did talk about Glee, but I haven't watched it since like 2 seasons ago so I'm a bit behind.

But it's okay cause my mom gives me updates every once in a while.

Like Quinn was in an accident.

And...

Okay, that's all I remember.

But half the good people graduated, but apparently they're still in it or something?

I don't know, I'm confused. Perhaps I'll watch a random episode on hulu and see if I can figure it out.

If not I'm sure there's an online summary somewhere.

It's one of those shows I just lost track of even though I was crazy obsessed at one point in my life.

Like Grey's.

And Bones.

and for a while The Closer.

But I caught up with the last one before the finale.

And Bones I'm still missing a few from last season but I have them taped.

So I'll watch them.

Or I'll buy it and watch them then.

There's just too many shows and I don't have time for them anymore.

I guess that happens when you get a life.

I do still watch NCIS, Castle and the Voice.

But the rest is DVR'd.

And half the time those are DVR'd, but I actually watch them, not let them sit for days and days.

I don't know where I'm going with this.

It's 2AM.

Oh yeah, I don't have to go in until 4 tomorrow, a-woohoo!

And I think after I'm taking Oldest Sister out for her birthday cause I have yet to do that.

I should probably wake up at a semi-decent hour so I can get started on some homework, but I guess that depends on when my internal clock wakes me up.

Cause sometimes I'll sleep 'til way late and get up, eat something fast and go to work.

But then there's times when I'm up at like 9 and can't go back to sleep.

Which is suck-ish, cause I rather enjoy sleeping in.

Oh well, I'll post some homework and then be done with it.

The only real assignments this week are discussion board stuff and a health resource analysis thing for the Library Goddess. We have to find a authentic website, print resource and community resource that someone can use for health information.

But the fun part is that we get to pick the patron and like give them qualities like mine will be a 24-year-old chick getting her Master's but she's suddenly diagnosed with like restless leg syndrome or something that sounds ridiculous but I'm sure is a serious problem.

It's just the commercials that are ridiculous.

Perhaps it's the writer in me, or just cause I'm a nerd, but I rather like assignments like these.

So that's the plan for tomorrow.

Not much to say about today other than the usual - it was dead cause it's a Sunday but then it picked up while he was at lunch and I was by myself - which is the norm as anyone who works/has worked there can tell you.

I have two volunteers that are supposed to start at the work branch tomorrow but I won't be there.

I trained them, but we'll see how much they remember.

I left detailed instructions, took up the whole board, and sent out an email to the staff to watch out for them. I'm sure they'll be fine.

Alright, in order to enjoy the sleeping in process I first have to fall asleep so I'm off. I'm sure I'll have plenty to talk about tomorrow. That usually happens when I do something with my family, we're full of characters.

Back in Time - Pitbull
what is it with him and Miami?

seriously?

still have yet to see this movie, gonna have to buy it when it comes out, already have the first two.

you'll find what's left of us in a cloud of dust on hwy 4

It says 11:50 but I won't tell you what time it actually is.

I counted only 10 cars still driving as I left the boyfriends house, but things picked up when I got closer to my apartment.

Husker-nation is full of partiers, especially after a big win like tonight.

And on homecoming.

Did I mention we had a major come from behind victory?

Second biggest in Husker history?

Wisconsin went down after leading back after the first quarter.

Alternate jerseys for homecoming of awesomeness.

It was amusing cause Adidas designed Wisconsin's as well, and since we're both red it was more like black with red vs white with red.

I DVR'd it so I'll probably turn it back on and fall asleep watching.

We watched bits of it at Applebees but the rest with his parents so I had to withhold my screaming at the TV.

It runs in the family, though I'm not quite as bad as my brother. He paces. And used to have this weird superstition that the stuffed helmet (when you squeeze it it sings the fight song) had to be facing a certain direction or he would change it if we started losing or I don't know, it was amusing.

Anyway, it was fun cause I got to hang out with the boyfriend and the best friend. I got chicken and shrimp - it was rockin'.

After the game we finished Back to the Future part 2 and got all the way through number 3. Which is why it's so late, and I should be sleeping but I'm still wired from driving.

Oh well, I'll turn on the game, lay down and close my eyes. Sleep will take me eventually.

But in the meantime - funny story. This chick that's running for office called me today cause apparently we're neighbors. I of course was at work so I didn't answer.

But that's weird right?

Sadly I'm not as big into the elections this year and am not sure who I'll vote for. There was a time - once upon a time, though I blame government class - that me and my friends were all over who was running and why they're good or bad and it just so happened to be an election year and the first year we could vote.

Anyway, we had to pick a candidate and advertise for them by hanging up posters and all that. We chose Green Party, go Nader!

Song you know but forgot you knew it:

Bye Bye - Jo Dee Messina

i find it highly amusing that the "ralph nader" tag already existed. may have to check that one out.

caught in a mudslide, eaten by a lion, got run over by a crappy purple Scion

"Thank God it's not flip flop Friday."

You know when your supervisor calls you in the morning and you look at the clock and freak out, thinking you're supposed to be at work and totally forgot or slept through your alarm?

That was me this morning. I saw Girlscout's name on the caller ID and like jumped up off the couch, ready to run to my closet.

Turns out she was looking for someone to switch days with a different coworker who couldn't make it in today.

However, I had a dentist appointment and a bunch of errands to run so that killed that.

Surprisingly, I survived the dentist.

It is not my favorite place to visit, mostly cause I have a crazy history with them.

Like literally, the only memories I have from visiting the dentist are all horrible.

Or awkward.

Like the time the new dentist asked me if I was married to my brother.

Well, he didn't phrase it like that, it was more like my brother was there the week before and he's like,
"Is he your husband?"
"Um, gross."
"Brother, got it."

But he was new.

Cause my old one got arrested.

And my orthodontist committed suicide.

Didn't think my teeth were that bad.

But I'm famous at the old dentist's office. He was gonna pull a tooth but it was adhered to the bone so he ended up cutting it out in four pieces. Which would have been bad enough except that when he put the numbing stuff on I felt like I was gonna pass out so I ran out to my mom in the lobby, smacked my head on the desk and konked out.

Woke up in his arms, apparently he was freaked.

Not exactly something that happens to him every day.

Which is the reason why I'm number 3 in the top 5 highlights list.

And the only reason I know that is the last time I went in to that office I was talking to the receptionist and she was like, "should we put a big red x on the floor in front of the desk?" and the girl standing next to her looks up at me and goes "that was you?!"

Anyway, so there was that time.

And of course braces were no fun, so there's that memory.

What else?

The first time I visited this new dentist I went in and they said I had 4 cavities. Though I'm pretty sure there ended up being 5 of them filled.

And the only reason I got through it was the nitrous being pumped into my nose. Though I'm pretty sure it was more of a mental thing than a physical thing.

Which is fine by me cause I survived.

Much like today, though of course I need to start actually flossing flossing, not just doing it when I force myself to cause I have an appointment coming up.

But my teeth have gotten better and I didn't have any new cavities so I'm calling it a victory.

"Nothing says spending Friday nights alone like a calculator watch."

After the appointment, since I was on that side of town anyway - and how weird is that to say, that side of town? I grew up in small town Nebraska, population 2500, there were no sides.

Though technically I was a farm girl outside of town, but it still counts.

But still feels weird that it takes so long to get to work and back even though I'm in the same city.

Where was I going with this?

Oh yeah, camera, I was on that side of town so I stopped in at Best Buy to get my new camera. Which I've been wanting to do for a while, but haven't had a day off off where I had the opportunity in a while. Most of my days off are either spent in class, doing homework, visiting the boyfriend, or going to the farmhouse. It was nice to stick around here and be able to run errands, take a nap and watch some of those library DVDs I have out that are due soon.

Anyway, the camera is all fancy and was on sale. It's got the same features as the bigger ones but it's still compact and I can carry it in my pocket.

Well, my coat pocket, it's not that compact.

But I'm excited. I wanted to get a new one for Vegas because my old one is literally old doesn't have that great of quality. Plus this one has the photo burst option so I can take like five with one press of a button. Figured it will be good to capture some night life or entertainment in Vegas. I'm stoked.

Even more stoked than I already was.

"Nothing like crying into a bag of Doritos on a Friday night."

After buying the camera - and the new Avengers movie - I got some groceries, did some laundry, started season one of Grimm - one of my many library dvd's - and took a nap.

Which was fantastic.

As is Grimm. I always meant to watch that one but never got around to it. Glad I waited 'til the DVD to get out cause I'd be totally lost without the first episode.

Oh, and somewhere in there I got gas and went to the carwash. Which my car was in desperate need of.

It's so nice to be able to wash the thing and then not have to drive on gravel roads to get home immediately after.

Cause that just kills the whole clean thing.

So the whole day off was pretty great, though I'm especially partial to the nap section of it, since I've been in dire need of an afternoon nap since the last time I had one.

I know, I'm old.

I'm feeling it.

But then I go to work and am told repeatedly how young I am for this job and then I'm okay.

Tomorrow I'm back at work, then heading out to see the boyfriend. Oh, and the Husker game is tomorrow night too, which I forgot until now so I'll have to DVR it. Though I'm assuming we'll do something similar to last time and go out to eat and watch it. Cause that was fun.

Alright, music for the night and then I'm out.

Carter is already sleeping and is stretched out so much that he's claimed an entire couch cushion. Did I mention he's a big fat Garfield-like cat? Perhaps I'll take a picture with my brand spanking new camera.

50 Ways To Say Goodbye - Train

love the melody to this one. i have no idea what's going on at 4:06-:07 but it's hysterical.

Thursday, September 27, 2012

but i've got friends that love me and they know just where i stand

Website for class is done!!

It's due at 10:00 AM, and it is currently 3:30 AM on the dot.

Yes, this post will say it's 11:50 PM but it says that often and every time it does I'm full of crap.

Just throwing that out there.

Anyway, I'm super pumped cause I'm finished with this giant giant giant website assignment for Info Tech class and as soon as this is posted there will be much victory dancing before I literally fall over and sleep.

Or die.

Either is possible at this point. I'm barely sitting up as it is.

But I'll come up with the energy to victory dance.

There's always energy stored somewhere for a victory dance.

I've been doing a lot of dancing lately, at work especially.

Which I didn't notice until it was pointed out to me.

Like literally, BossLady was talking about this culture event thing that I was supposed to go help out at and we were set up in a corner and she was like, "but you're big on gestures and dancing so you'll draw them in."

I went, I have no idea what you're talking about.

I do not.

At least, not that often.

But yes, apparently I do.

I blame my family.

Isn't that what most people do when accused of being quirky?

They blame their family because they're the only people who can't run screaming in the other direction?

They're stuck with you for life.

Anyway, Everts women do a lot of broad hand gestures.

Broad hand gestures and shrieks for joy when we win a card game/drink an adult beverage/arrive at a destination without getting lost/embarrass the children present - we get kicked out of churches and pizza joints but we go out in style.

Oh, don't give me that look, it wasn't me that got kicked out of the church. Though I did laugh about it when I was informed.

I don't remember where I was or where I was going so I'll start over.

Well, not over but yeah, whatever. You get it.

Did I mention I'm half asleep at this point. It's like once I hit submit all the energy just floated away.

But like I said, victory dancing will bring it back and last for probably about 5 seconds before I pass out and wake up on the living room floor.

Remind me to set my alarm, can't be late for the dentist.

Blah, dentists.

I'm sure there will be more on that tomorrow after the appointment.

I don't remember where their office is located, I'll have to look it up.

Think I've repressed it that much that I don't even know how to get there.

Nah, he wasn't awful I'm just hoping they don't do that gum measuring thing every time I go in and that was only cause it was my first time there.

Cause that was suck-ish.

And I haven't cut down on the sugar or pop or started flossing which makes me an awful person, I'm sure.

But I can't live without Diet Dr. Pepper. Every year I want Santa to bring me a lifetime supply but he never does. Maybe that will change if I start flossing.

I had a bunch of stuff to say about today but for the life of me I can't remember what it was.

Other than the fact I had to text Queen of the Known Universe cause I left my Star Wars thermos somewhere in the building and I didn't want someone walking off with it. You hit a button and Han Solo talks. He predicts me day. Like I'll ask, "what's today look like for us, Han?" and he'll reply "I've got a bad feeling about this..."

and then I groan and take a sip of the coffee/tea/whatever hot liquid seems to be inside it at the time.

Not the reason she gave me her number, but the real reason is more of a long story that will remain unexplained cause I don't want either of us to get yelled at.

Ha.

3:45 AM

Holy crap I need sleep.

Maybe if I fall asleep in the dentist chair I won't notice all the horrible things taking place.

Alright, going to bed now.

I leave you with this.

Song You Know But Forgot You Knew It

Enjoy.

lovin' you is fun

Another night spent with the boyfriend means I'm cramming for homework but I don't care, he's worth it, and I'll get it done. It's not due 'til Friday and I've got tomorrow night and I mean all night since the only thing I have on Friday is a dentist appointment at 11AM.

And of course I haven't been flossing even though I should have been but I'm lazy and I don't like to floss.

It's just weird.

And I'm building a website - I'll turn on my inner nerd and get it done.

I'm an information professional, I got this.

I said proudly yet knowing I'll be flailing - much like today.

Okay, so I'm the volunteer coordinator at our branch and as of last week I had like 7 volunteers total.

I got 2 applications earlier this week, then this morning I had 3 patrons in a row come up and talk to me about it. So that makes what like 12?

Head math on the fly.

So I was like, okay, I'll find stuff for them to do.

Then I get back from lunch and they hand me 2 more applications that came in while I was gone.

For an hour, I was gone for an hour and 2 more came in.

AND THEN!!!

I'm up on second floor when I get a phone call from yet another chick asking about volunteer hours and I'm like AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I don't have enough stuff for all these people to do.

My regulars shelve.

That's good, I love that they can shelve and they're self-sufficient.

The thing about new people is that there's a whole training process and you have to have time to train them and then things for them to do.

I do not have that much stuff so I had to reject the 2 that came in over lunch and the 1 on the phone this afternoon because seriously? 5 in one week?

When I had 7 total?

What's in the water around here, seriously?

Anyway, they all seem competent enough that I won't have to worry about them, but finding things for them to do is kind of a challenge. Because my regulars are so good at what they do they don't really need backups. So I'm basically flailing for ideas. Some of which I've gotten from coworkers throughout the day, which I'm grateful for. Others of which I picked up from literally walking all over the building with a piece of paper and a pencil just writing down any possibility.

There's a lot of cleaning-related stuff that needs to be done.

Which is good, and some inputting data stuff, with some sorting of periodicals, aaaannnndddd now I'm blanking.

But I have a list.

Which is my lifeline.

Which is actually true for a lot of lists as of lately.

Anyway, 2 of them new 3 are coming in to train tomorrow, so list in hand I'll hopefully be able to get through it.

This is of course after our morning staff meeting to which I'm bringing my kickin' iPad cause it's all about ebooks.

Well, a portion of the meeting will be about ebooks, I'm hoping the rest would be as severely depressing as our last staff meeting.

But that's in the past.

I think we're good now.

And if not I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Anyway, where was I going with this again?

Oh right, flail-age.

Right now I'm going to post this and then work on that website until I fall asleep.

Then tomorrow I'll have work and then come home immediately to finish the thing and get it posted by 10AM Friday morning.

Maybe if I'm up super late I can post-pone the dentist appointment even longer.

I just have a bad track record with dentists. I pass out in their offices and wake up in their arms, they mistake me for my brother's wife which is super awkward, I get high on nitrous just so they can fill 4 cavities, etc.

I'm not looking forward to yet another appointment.

But whatever, post this, website next, sleep eventually, then work, then more website and discussion boards, then hopefully sleep at a reasonable hour though I'm guessing not, then the poking and prodding of sterilized equipment and finally after that is an afternoon off.

On which I will probably make up for all the missed sleep.

But, the faster I get started now, the more I'll get done - or so I say - so moving on.

Aaannd, in honor of her Rolling Stone cover - they said it was the first Nebraskan but actually there have been more. James Valentine being one.

dig it.

OUT!

and yes, i'm adding a "flail" tag. i feel it will get much usage. especially if i go back to old posts and add it in where necessary.

a book report on peter rabbit...

Blah.

Homework.

I know it has a purpose.

And it's useful.

Especially grad school stuff cause it's not just useless tests and random statistics I'll forget five minutes later.

But still, the fact that it's here and I have to do it and I lack the motivation to finish the website because I'd rather be doing things like spending time with my boyfriend, eating and sleeping...

Eh.

So tonight I went out there, we ordered pizza and watched Back to the Future Part 1 and half of Part 2, and tomorrow I think he is coming here, where we will probably finish Part 2 and maybe start Part 3.

Not a lot to do since I'm not home 'til 6:30 and he has to go in to work at 11 an hour away.

But it's okay cause it's not due 'til Friday so I'll have all of Thursday

unless

something should happen,

why does

this always happen?

I should

be outside playing

getting

fresh air and sunshine

i work

best under pressure

and there'll

be lots of pressure

if i

wait 'til tomorrow

i should

start writing now

but if i

start writing now

when i'm

not really rested

it could

upset my thinking

which is

not good at all.

THE NAME OF THE RABBIT WAS PETER

that was all from memory.

there's more but i'll spare you and let you watch this instead.

and no that wasn't planned.

but when you listen to the song for weeks straight it gets ingrained in your head.

and sayings like "i'll have all of" bring it back in full force.

apparently even 7 years of absence can't make it go away.

feels like only yesterday that we were doing the macarena backstage to "the kite song"

it probably didn't help that i spent all night with charlie brown.

ah, flashbacks.

i'd upload the video i have of dress rehearsal but they'd all kill me.

this is me attempting a straight face.

it didn't last very long.

Alright, off to bed so that I can be semi-coherent tomorrow morning.

Monday, September 24, 2012

Holy crap, that's Bo Pelini.

So, funny story.

I'm on lunch.

Just got my food, heading back to the building, when who should be jogging across the street headed right toward me?

Bo Pelini.

I literally could have high fived him, he was that close.

Which was awesome.

Though not as awesome as what happened next.

He ran across at a red light, which isn't really that unusual as jaywalking is kind of a part of life when you work downtown.

The weird thing about it, was that he didn't even notice the car that almost schmeered him in the process.

And yet, the funniest part of this entire experience was seeing the look on the driver's face go from "what the hell?!" to "Oh my god, that's Bo Pelini!"

Priceless.

He's the Nebraska Cornhuskers football coach, just in case you have no idea who I'm talking about.

Since Nebraska revolves around football it makes him a bit of a celebrity here.

And that was the highlight of my day.

The rest of it I spent working on my scavenger hunt, coming up with back up options if the books are checked it, researching more people in case more kids participate, etc. Right now I'm done with Eiseley, Cather, and Morris and am starting on Aldrich and probably add in a Neihardt somewhere along the way.

Have I explained this all to you already or are you totally lost?

Short version - putting together a scavenger hunt for my teens. They have to solve clues to make it to the end while in the process they'll be using the catalog, finding articles on microfilm, searching databases and touring the Nebraska-centric area housing all the fun Nebraska artifacts.

While this does not take place until January I still feel like I should get it done while I'm still in the excited phase and have the time, rather than put it off and then dread the whole thing.

It's fun so far so I'm sticking with that.

After work I started working on some more website stuff for class, then turned on some Big Bang cause there's only so much code that you can stare at before you want to slam your head against the keyboard.

*facepalm*

Which is why I use "compose" mode on here and save the html for the links and videos.

It's much simpler that way.

I should really work more on the website so I'll be done.

I do have until Friday at 10.

Tomorrow is date night with the boyfriend.

Hopefully.

And I'm just tired.

You know where you get to that point where you're just tired of working on something?

I'm there.

Think I'm gonna crash instead.

I'm still clueless on a bunch of stuff, I need to email the prof with a bunch of questions.

That will give my head time to stop spinning.

And she's smart so she'll have all the answers.

Okay, I know I said I would hold off on The Voice clips and talk until I'd seen all the auditions and have picked my top ten, but this was just too good.

i just, i can't stop laughing.

but i'm sad cause the clips don't include the coaches comments like last seasons clips.

you don't get to hear Xtina talk about his "raunchy facial expressions".

bummer. you should hulu it.

ps - cee-lo wrote "don't cha"

Okay, I'm off.

And guess what.

It's a legitimate 10:59 PM.

Knock, knock, knock, Penny. Knock, knock, knock, Penny. Knock, knock, knock, Penny.

Oh, Reference class.

Filled with 17 brilliant people who can't navigate a discussion line.

But the thing with an uneven number is that it throws everyone off cause when you hit the end you have to go all the way around. And moving over turns into moving two over, and apparently some of us suck at line dancing more than others.

"can i help you find anything?"
"a comic that depicts a woman whose bosom can't be used as a flotation device."

But we talked a lot about some good reference guidelines - censorship, respect, and all that. And downloaded some cool new software for Word for this reference website thing.

Which I now am supposed to pass on to Superwoman cause I am a spy in the house of me.

After class the Library Goddess and I met up to work on the newsletter that gets sent out to all the library people. No pressure.

Though the majority of it is copy and paste. Which I'm a total pro at, yeehaw.

"what are you waiting for?"
"they're in a group, i'm scared."

Then after that I stopped and got a burger with money that the Cool Aunt left for me on her door.

Cause she's cool like that.

Whiskey river bbq burger with fries.

It's amusing because I called on my way home and it was ready by the time I got there.

Awesomeness.

"i feel like two different people, Dr. Jekyll and Mrs. Whore."

So, now that I'm home, I'm taking a much needed break cause it's my last day off for a while, to watch some Big Bang Theory. Tomorrow I will finish my website though it's not due until Friday, and then start work on the newsletter - which I can't do yet anyway cause I don't have the stuff to put in it.

And I think that's it for homework this week.

I think.

I mean, there's more next week, there will always be more.

Maybe it's just timing but I feel like there will always be homework.

Like, even after I'm graduated, there will always be homework.

Mostly cause I keep inheriting all these responsibilities at work and don't have time to finish everything whilst there.

"she doesn't have a boyfriend, she has a Sheldon."

Oh well, if life was easy then I would get bored so I'm good with it.

Tomorrow is back to work so I should go to bed at a semi-decent hour as I was up pretty late last night.

"i feel like i should say, 'that bitch!' but i don't have enough information."

Here's even more useless information for you.

-Off! and similar mosquito repellents don't really repel - they hide you. The spray blocks the mosquito's sensors so they don't realize you are there.

-Duck tape was originally green and developed by Johnson & Johnson for the US military, which wanted a waterproof tape that would keep the moisture out of - and blend in with - their ammunition cases. During the postwar house boom, it was discovered that it was also good for heating and air conditioning duct work, so the color was changed from army green to silver and duck tape became duct tape.

-The homes on Wisteria Lane were lived in by the Cleavers, the Hardy Boys, and the men of Animal House before they were rebuilt and remodeled for Desperate Housewives

-60 Minutes is the only TV show with no theme song or music

-The Magna Doodle that hung on the inside of Joey and Chandler's apartment door had a different picture every episode of Friends. I KNEW THAT ONE. Also, the frame that Monica and Rachel had hanging on the back of their door around the peep hole was originally a mirror that broke during filming, but they liked it so they kept it.

-The technical (copyrighted) name for the mini marshmallows found in Lucky Charms is "Marbits". They were invented by General Mills VP John Holahan when he cut up a few orange circus peanuts, stirred them into a bowl of cheerios and was impressed with the results.

-The distinctive smell that you experience upon opening a box of crayons comes from stearic acid - which is the formal name for processed beef fat.

-Of the 20 possible answers on a Magic 8-ball, ten are positive, five are negative and five are neutral. Which, according to statisticians gives a high degree of accuracy to the ball's ability to forecast.

aaannd that's all for now.

have a good night!

oh baby, baby, it's a wild world.

Tried a breakfast burrito at my usual coffee joint this morning.

I'd say about a 3/10 on the foodie Scale of Awesome.

Will skip that at all future opportunities.

Stick with my cinnamon roll.

Or chocolate muffin.

Those are good too.

So that's how my day started.

Crappy spicy sausage breakfast burrito with hot coffee to go with it so it was like hotness overload.

Which made the coffee taste semi-gross but it's okay because it actually kept me awake since I left the apartment at 6:30.

Oh yeah, I woke up at like 6:25, got dressed and left the apartment in 5 minutes.

That's my rock star morning sequence where everything is literally laid out for me the night before because I know waking up any time before 10AM means I won't be coherent enough to make sure things match.

Plus no lights are turned on in this apartment before 8AM.

Too bright.

Anyway, so left at 6:30, got coffee a little before 8, had class from 8:30-about 11ish. I love my professor, we're scheduled to go until 12:30, but since all the other sections are just like 2 hours she's letting us out way early.

And today was more of a work day, which is good cause I'm so behind on the HTML thing.

We're building websites, which I already told you, but I'm making a camp one - even though I already have a professional one - because it's literally the only thing I'm an expert on and I have 80 millions forms, pictures, and word docs on it.

After class was the Husker game. I listened to it and read the chats - there's one on the Journal Star website for every game that's highly entertaining.

Really gotta break down and get the Big Ten Network.

Eh, I'll watch it when I go home, Mom taped it for me.

So, this is what happens when you're up by 35 by the end of the first quarter.

and the rest of the game was a bit like that since the final score was 73-7.

Not really fair, but we'll take it.

I actually have my own video of the wave from a couple years back, will have to upload it.

Huskers rock, and Burkhead's back in full force.

I probably could have went home to watch it today but then I couldn't have taken my wicked awesome nap afterward.

I miss naps.

Naps rock.

Add to cart.

Okay, more class tomorrow though this one is a bit later.

Thankfully.

So, I should be off to bed now as it is more like 3AM than the 11:50PM this entry will say it is.

Amber Atkins, that is not American Teen Princess language!

Today was a day.

For serious.

I think I sat down once between 3 and closing.

First there was a girl who wanted Bieber books. Then she wanted photocopies of the covers of the Bieber books. But of course no one knows how to use our copy machines cause if you don't have the right placement of stuff it says there's no matching paper size.

Then I had about 2 damaged books and 2 cases missing CD's to process, which wouldn't have been so bad if I wasn't trying to finish a Fresh Start Waiver and being bombarded by 5 other patrons all at the same time.

Meanwhile, leaving poor Queen of the Universe by herself to cover the entire second floor. Where I was supposed to be 40 minutes prior to that moment, but was still at the desk because our tech genius Info-Man was helping out with some e-book stuff, and The Old New Guy was trying to put together a program while working at the desk, and there really was just the four of us at the desk because the other supervisors were either checking in holds, helping with that e-book question.

Anyway, it was a bit hectic. But we managed to pull through unscathed.

After that I headed over to see Squirt in her Homecoming dress.

Quote of the day:
"That rat bastard, if I didn't hate him before, I hate him now!"
we'll keep that one anonymous, though i totally lost it upon hearing it.

Then I headed home and watched Drop Dead Gorgeous. Cause the library finally got it on dvd. Oh my god, even funnier than I remember. Though I think the last time I watched it was like 10 years ago so now I get more of the references.

Amy Adams making her film debut, aw I miss Brittany Murphy. She was great.

Here's some of my favorites.

Most Smartest
Best damn tapper.

or you could just go with this one.

The problem with watching movies like this is that immediately following I can't stop talking with a Minnesotan accent. Same thing happened with "New In Town", shutup Sketch. Maybe it's from listening to all my teachers growing up. They all went to the same college in MN to get their degrees and went home with accents they used to make fun of.

Alright, gotta crash cause I gotta be up and leaving at 6:30 tomorrow morning. Ugh. Stopping for coffee on the way there.

I need to work more on that website design, it's due next week and I'm super far behind cause I went to the wedding instead of class last Saturday.

Not that I'm regretting, that it was probably the most fun I've had in a very long time.

I just need to get on this so I don't put it off until last minute and then get stuck with a bunch of tech questions. More on that tomorrow after class.

I'll leave you with this reference.

i've seen trouble all my days.

So,

What makes someone a great teacher?

How about the fact that you can email them at like 10:30 PM with a major technology homework issue and they'll talk you through things step by step all the way until you figure it out at 11:30 PM.

And they don't make fun of you.

And they don't talk down to you.

Did I mention that the Library Goddess's staff is fantastic?

Almost as fantastic as she is herself?

But as she is pure awesomeness, so it's really not fair trying to compare people to her.

So, let's move on.

Today. Woke up early-ish, stopped for coffee, got to open the home branch with Space Cadet, there was much banter it was highly amusing. After that it was some public service work, then an early lunch and a trip down the street to man - or woman - the library desk at an ethnic festival. I was basically there for like an hour before we started tearing down but I got some cool pens.

Flashbacks to home and garden shows back home as "the Teacher and the Failed Librarian".

Home and Garden Show conversations
They're happening across the nation
You'll be amazed at the valuable information
Here's our own translation.

Long story, go here: You Can't Rollerskate in a Buffalo Herd

Anyway, so was there for an hour, came back to the work branch and collaborated with our Local Linguist - she works in a room dedicated to all things Nebraska authors - Cather, Aldrich, Eiseley, Kava, Kooser, etc.

I think I've rambled to you about the scavenger hunt. If not here's the short version, my kids don't know that this room exists so I'm coming up with a scavenger hunt and hiding clues in specific books that they'll need to solve to get to the next book and trying to use as many library resources as possible so they're using the catalog to find fiction and nonfiction, use the microfilm readers to print off a specific article, find information through a database from the website, find something in the music library and then we'll end up in Nebraska central.

Some of the questions are amusing, like "what time is shown on the clock in this portrait" and in order to find it they'll have to talk to the Local Linguist. She's in and is excited. I'm excited, which is why I'm planning it now even though it's not until January because I know I'll just put it off and then end up dreading it cause it'll be crammed.

And if I'm not excited then the teens won't be excited which will make the whole thing lame. So it'll be good.

After that I headed home to do some homework which of course wasn't working. It's all web design stuff and my computer didn't like the software so I have to use different stuff than the other people are using which is where I got lost, but now we're good.

But I'm exhausted and stressed about it so I'm going to crash for the night and work some more on it tomorrow.

Thankfully it's not due until next week, however class is on Saturday so I should work on it enough that I'll be able to understand what they're talking about.

It's amusing, I know I'm like complete tech genius, but I am a tech person and whenever there are computer issues Big Brother seems to search me out, then calls me "college" and tells me to fix it.

So I know semi-what I'm doing.

But with this class I feel completely in over my head.

Which is why I'm grateful for awesome teachers like the ones I have. They're great.

Alright, that's all I got for the night. Let me find some catchy tunes, pass them on, and then bail for the night.

hmmm....turning it on shuffle.

nope that one is suck-ish.

nope, that one is more suck-ish.

Man of Constant Sorrow - Tonic Sol Fa

love these guys, saw them live at choralfest senior year.

alright, crashing now.

i need you now and i'll need you then.

Okay, so funny story.

Remember that makeup thing I'm supposed to go to tomorrow?

Totally lost the sheet with all her information on it so I'm screwed.

And I have massive amounts of homework so I can't go.

Which sounds lame, but it's true. If I don't get the stuff done then I'll end up doing it Friday night and it's due Saturday morning so if there's a problem I'm seriously screwed. And it's building websites which means a bunch of new software, joy.

I met up with the professor last night, but immediately following I got distracted so of course I didn't work more on it like I should. Then tonight the boyfriend was having a bad night so I headed out there 'til 11. Called Sketch on the way home cause she has having issues as well, apparently it's the time for it.

Great, just what I need.

We ran some errands, watched the Huskers lose to Penn State and then part of Titanic. We just got to the iceberg hitting the ship when he had to go to work.

But that's good, cause everything turns depressing from there on.

"I'll never let go, Jack." *lets go of hand and watched him sink. woops.* guessing spiritually not physically. poor jack.

Sad day for Jack.

Song of the day:

Clip of the day:

yes, it's crappy but Second Sister told him to look it up on youtube, so I did.

love how the crowd goes wild when the actual psy comes out.

Long day tomorrow so I'm out. Get to go to some community festival just down the street for a few hours., Love my job.

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

"Why aren't you in the upper balcony?"

Moment of the day:

Walked into the professors office and went, "Whoa. I interviewed here."
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"

I'll get there in a minute.

Day like any other, woke up, went to work, updated the website, checked in a bunch of stuff cause there was no delivery yesterday. I'm starting to realize we took our old delivery guy for granted. Uh, what else? Oh did some major supplies stuff cause apparently I was way behind on that. Copied some application forms, used the guillotine chopper thing, then checked in even more stuff.

It was funny because - okay we have like a daily schedule and we have specific places to be each hour - and today it was like 2nd floor, PS2, circ workroom, Lab desk, then lunch, then I had like circ workroom, holds, off desk, and then ended at Youth Services so my afternoon was like on my own time. It was fantastic. I checked in a bunch of stuff but there were like 4 other people scheduled to be back there in the afternoon so most of my time was spent on supplies and volunteer stuff.

Trying to come up with a list of stuff to do for volunteers who can't shelve. I have a lady coming in on Tuesday and the only things I can think of that she might be interested in is cleaning displays and maybe edging shelves. Cause she'll be a long term adult volunteer and I'm guessing things like sharpening pencils and sorting colored strips will be of little interest to her.

Ideas?

So after work I headed over to one of our other branches because my professor is the branch manager there. I walk in her office and go whoa. Flashbacks. Cause that's where I interviewed to make the temp job permanent. The first interview I did, well that was with Queen of the Known Universe and Super Librarian Status in the basement of the work branch. Immediately following that was with my Glee-Loving Boss and Girlscout at the home branch. Third came with Superwoman in her office and that was for the 20 hour summer temp job. Then the library judge - as he now goes by - took some time off so I stayed 'til October and that's when they decided they needed two more people - one at the work branch and one at the branch I went to tonight - so they panel interviewed me basically in that office and I got the work branch job.

Which was my preference.

Then they panel interviewed me again - same people, different office this time it was back to Superwoman's - to make the 20 hours permanent turn into 40 hours permanent.

Anyway, I was like, "i interviewed in this office" and she was totally lost cause I don't currently work there.

She rocks. For serious.

Like, we were supposed to have class on Saturday but I couldn't make it, which was okay because originally there was no class scheduled that day and when they added a different one they said we could meet with her to make up for it if we couldn't make it. Since I had the wedding I chose to go to that and just meet with her later. The class on Saturday was supposed to go 8:30-2:30. I got off work at 6:05 tonight, got there at about 6:20, I think we were done by 7:40.

But it's all html stuff. Actually it's pretty cool, by the end of the assignment I'll be able to type this entire thing on html instead of switching back and forth between that and composition mode. Would make my life a bit easier, but I'll have to learn all the codes. Or learn to copy and paste them from the tutorial websites they gave us links to.

I remember we built our own websites in high school, but that was like sophomore year Computer Applications with Tutor Bode like 5 years ago. I remember something about typing in specific numbers for colored texts and backgrounds but for the life of me I don't remember what they were. I do remember building a sweet house with an awesome colorful dance floor, plus some flyers for a party with my fellow PEUBH Juwanna.

Cause we were the Popular Evil Ugly Bitchy Hags.

Don't ask.

It's a roommate thing.

We had a lot of those.

Alright, I'm aware that this post was a complete and utter waste of your time and I'm totally boring and about to get more boring cause the second I log off here I'm back to homework.

So watch this, it will make up for all of my boringness.

Finesse Mitchell talks about Prince

"why are ya'll up there?"
"how the hell you get down there?"
"forget all that, can you get to me in case something go on down here?!"

Watch it, you'll love it.

Shout out of the day: To you, unshaven young dude with the white t-shirt and baggy jeans running through traffic to make it to the parking garage. I know you thought the chick you passed was good looking and had to turn around to take another look but you almost got ran down by a bus so perhaps you should watch where you're going instead of leering at strangers.

And that's all I got. Have a good one.

Monday, September 17, 2012

yeah, you been messin' with my mind, foolin' with my time.

First off, birthday shoutout to the Cool Aunt.

Actually watching the Stony Brook vs. UCLA game at the moment. Just saw us, woohoo!

It's on in the background, I can't do silence, it just doesn't work.

Hence the constant headphones.

So here was my day. Fell asleep about 2ish, woke up about 12ish, watched some Voice and Leverage, though I'm holding off posting about The Voice until after all the blind auditions and I can officially choose my top ten.

The problem though with sleeping in that late is that you're still half asleep all afternoon so when someone like a makeup saleswoman calls you answer. Cause you're used to seeing unknown numbers pop up on caller ID cause you direct a youth camp and get frantic parent calls constantly. I knew it was a bit late for a parent to call me about camp stuff, but I was still in that half-asleep state so I answered.

And now I'm gonna kick Oldest Sister's butt cause for some reason - okay it had a lot to do with the sleep - now I'm going over to this chick's house on Thursday to buy even more makeup.

Cause apparently I need it.

Though I don't wear it to work cause I have enough creepers hitting on me and asking me out. And I don't really go out often, though I did wear some to the wedding this weekend.

Before that....eh, I'd have to find a calendar.

Perhaps if I have new stuff I'll be motivated to wear it.

Don't quote me on that cause there's a 90% chance you will never see me with it on.

Unless you're my boyfriend, in which case that percentage will drop a bit.

But that's only cause I'm in love with him and his opinion on my appearance matters.

I'm sorry, I know you're all severely wounded that it's not for you, you'll get over it.

Sadly this is not the first time someone has referred me. Kitzworld did it back in high school and somehow I was able to turn the chick down. Perhaps the consciousness was a factor in that case.

After that I went in to work for 2 hours, talked to my prof about meeting - I'm heading over to her branch after my shift with my laptop, I enjoy immensely that we work for the same system, lots of LCL references in class - checked a lot of stuff in, signed up a few for cards, the usual. And then came back to jam out with my big fat cat.

You'd have thought I'd been longer than just 2 hours since he was all nice to me for the majority of the night.

Though that seems to have changed. He's pacing back and forth in front of the couch trying to figure out how to get passed the blankets so he can bite me.

Did I mention he's devious?

Alright, it's pretty late at the moment and since I'm working all day tomorrow I should crash.

Miss You - Rolling Stones
totally had forgotten about this song until i heard it on the radio this weekend. it's fantastic, definitely something you should check out if you don't already know it.

Have a good one!

get-et-et in line and settle down.

So he didn't trip or say the wrong name.

And no one passed out up front or at the reception.

Though Juwanna was pretty close to losing her stomach contents for a while there.

You could tell too cause she and Smo and I dance.

Like dance.

Lots.

And she went from jumping and swinging and craziness with us to just swaying softly while Jared held her upright.

Barely.

But she was good by the end of the night.

It was a fun time, I dragged the boyfriend out onto the floor though I think I drug the boyfriend's best friend out there more.

He seemed to have a pretty fun time.

Got some sweet pictures from mom of us doing Macarena and Cotton-eyed-Joe. Will have to upload them later.

Saw a lot of old friends, was super cool cause my twin was there!!!! Who I haven't seen in literally years!

No, seriously, he's like my twin. Born on the same day in the same hospital, our moms were like 2 doors apart, both have the brown hair and similar personalities. Though I totally gave him crap cause he's been with the same girl for 8 years and there's still no ring on her finger.

Dude.

What's up with that?

Seriously?

Got a picture with him and Tweet as a class reunion kind of thing, we were down two but it still counts. And I felt super super short, it was ridiculous. I need to start wearing heels.

Don't quote me on that, it will never happen.

And it wouldn't have helped anyway, Tweet is like 6'4 and Alex is gotta be over 6.

I think I'm like 5'6, maybe 5'7.

Squirt has me beat, and Bubby will soon.

That's how sad my height is.

After the reception we headed up to Tweet's place, where half of us crashed while the other half of us jammed out to some music and joked around for a while. Got back to the farmhouse about 4, drove through some serious fog, but I had Smo with me so I was good.

The only problem with getting back to the farmhouse at 4AM is that I didn't fall asleep until about 5:15 and then I was up at like 8 cause I had to drive back at like 9:15 and for some reason I couldn't go back to sleep for that whole extra hour. So I stopped for gas and some fantastic cappuccino, which I forgot it was as good as it is. Perhaps I'll stop there more often.

Smo headed off to her place and I made it back to the apartment with time to shower and change - cause the only clean clothes I had with me were the two other dresses I brought so that Juwanna/Smo could tell me what to wear, and clearly I was not wearing those to work.

And besides, if I did, Queen of the Known Universe would kick my butt that I wore them on a day she wasn't there to give me crap for them.

So I was pretty much the walking dead until about 3:30 when I took my lunch.

Which I spent in my car.

Cause my phone was dead.

After work the boyfriend stopped by because he had to pick up yet another motorcar to add to his collection, which I believe now totals at 7.

Not that I'm complaining, he seems to enjoy them and as I have a bit of background with trains myself it's not exactly a foreign concept to see train memorabilia start to grow. And grow. And grow.

But it's his hobby and he loves it.

And I love him so I guess I can love it too.

Yeah, speaking of love, there was a lot of wedding talk going on this weekend.

Like, an excessive amount.

Cause apparently we're next.

But we're not, cause that's Juwanna. She's got the ring to prove it.

So people kept asking me when we were gonna get engaged and I told them to go talk to him cause he's the one that's asking, and apparently he was deflecting them to me because somehow I'm in charge.

We'll see about that.

Not that it will be happening anytime soon.

Just eventually.

Yes, I'm happy.

For the first time in a very long time.

Which occasionally turns me into some weird emotional girl.

Get used to it.

I have.

Alright, Juwanna's nausea aside, it was nice to see some old friends and get to spend actual time together. Even though half of us live in the same town anyway, we still never see each other. Gonna have to work on that.

Settle Down - No Doubt
reunited and it feels so good.

L.A.M.B. and cheerleading B-A-N-A-N-A-S's are good, but it's hard to top Rock Steady.

holy crap, was that seriously 2001?

and don't speak was what like, mid-90's?

now I feel old.

Glad they're back.

Alright, since I'm still a bit in zombie-mode I'm gonna crash.

And I get the pleasure of sleeping in because I don't go in until 4.

So don't call me before noon.

I will not answer.

OUT!

oppan gangnam style

Should I be scared that someone got to my blog by doing a web search for "woman who don't swallow captions".

I think I should.

So tomorrow.

Well, technically later today as it is officially after midnight.

The little boy that used to steal my headbands put them on and call himself Tylah gets married tomorrow.

Which means we're officially getting old.

He's got the gray hair in his beard to prove it.

Which amuses me greatly.

It's been interesting to observe this relationship. Tweet was always a bit on the wild side - but in a good way - and she's very mature so now he's all grown up and stuff.

It's cute, they're cute.

But the problem with hanging out with a bunch of engaged people is that people ask when you're going to get engaged.

And his mother already told me that we're having three kids, as are his sister and brother. Cause she wants lots of grandkids.

Hysterical cause I told that to Juwanna tonight and she was like, "ha! you?! does she know you?!"

Me and needles aren't such great friends.

Even watching a birthing video made me run to the bathroom.

And had Juwanna running after me to make sure I was okay.

Someone brought that up at the class reunion and her response was, "that's why I don't know anything about babies, I ran after you!"

Was fun to see everybody tonight. Big shoutout to Tammi and the awesomeness that is her crew. Very impressive decorating job for only 12 hours. That building is gigantic, I remember that from when Second Sister had her reception there.

Having a lot of flashbacks, especially when on the phone with Smo while at the reception hall. Cause she went to that reception as well. That was a lot of fun. I love receptions. Good food, fun times with friends, our family is filled with dancers so they're always amusing to see out on the dance floor. Somehow we always end up in a giant circle with people going through the middle showing off their moves.

And then there's a lot of SNL Spartan Cheerleader dancing, which I blame on my cousins. They're the ones that performed it at a family reunion and then at the reception of yet another cousin's wedding.

We have a lot of us, there are 20 of us.

And only, oh geez, like 8 of us left that aren't married I think...I think.

But we're all approaching that age - with the exception of Kyle who just got his driver's license. So there will probably be a whole bunch of them within the next decade.

Apparently I'm all about weddings today.

But it's better than talking about the obnoxious dude that made me help him with computer stuff for all three of his sessions and just redo everything we did yesterday. Blah, whatever it's done. And I'm off tomorrow so if he goes in and requests me yet again he'll just have to figure it out himself.

We have plenty of great reference/computer people. I don't know why he keeps seeking me out, I already have enough stalkers, I don't need any more.

Alright, off the music and then I'm gonna crash cause fun day tomorrow. Golfing with G-Wigger and Obi-Wan. Should be fun in the morning, then the game is at 11, after that is the wedding and reception.

Tonight was just good, you know? Made up for all the crap I got stuck with today. And the boyfriend is wonderful to put up with all this wedding and kids talk. Actually he said he would be content with all of it so I was pleased. And he gave me his jacket which was another flashback cause in high school he had this bright orange sweatshirt that I'm pretty sure I wore for like a month straight.

Okay, really music now.

So, unless you've been living under a rock for the past few months you've probably already watched this but I'm going to post it anyway. It actually just exploded, I can't believe it's only been online for like 2 months and there are already over 172 billion views. Madness

alright, off to bed.

Thursday, September 13, 2012

cause i had my tray table up and my seat back in the full upright position...

So I'm engaged.

Well, that's what I told a creepy stalker today.

Yes, Sketch, I could hear your "What?!" all the way from Illinois.

It's the newest of the stalkers that I mentioned a few posts ago. He saw the ring and asked and since I feel like he's hitting on me constantly I said I was engaged thinking he would stop but then he started talking about rings and how he got a cheap one for his ex-boyfriend.

So guess I was safe anyway.

But the fiance thing was already out there and there's no real way to take it back aside from saying, I lied cause you were creeping me out.

Tomorrow I'm heading out to a friend's dress rehearsal meaning I have to leave straight from work meaning I have to actually dress up dress up tomorrow. Though not a dress. I promised him I'd wear one for his wedding but didn't mention anything about the rehearsal. And the boyfriend is in it which is why I'm going to the dinner which should be fun. I'm stoked, I love going to friend's weddings to see who's in them and see people and dance the night away.

Took a while to pack and now that I have all these dresses that Mom keeps bringing me and Oldest Sister keeps taking me shopping for I don't know which one to wear. So I'm taking like three and I'll have Smo pick. She picked which one I wore to the last NELHS wedding. Which was more like a NELHS reunion cause both bride and groom went there.

Today was pretty uneventful aside from my own personal drama. Which was stupid in the first place. And my boyfriend is wonderful and puts up with everything.

2 people called in and then 1 more went home sick. Which doesn't bode well for the rest of us.

Finished all my homework for the week. Which was a quiz, IT in libraries paper, and community analysis aka demographic study. It didn't take as long as I thought it would and I literally did a victory dance after posting them.

Albuquerque - Weird Al
i was off by three but i still won the grand prize...

Cool video for someone that's not the performing artist. But I keep spelling the title wrong.

I remember we listened to this when we were driving through Albuquerque on our way to California.

The song lasted longer than our drive through the town.

I miss those cousin vacations. We keep saying we should go to Vegas but then get busy and it goes on the back burner. Probably won't happen until after I finish grad school and all that. Which actually isn't that far away. December of 2013 I think. Should start a countdown.

Okay, I really should crash as it's almost 1 and tomorrow will be crazy. And Saturday. Which means I should sleep when I can.

And I wouldn't be surprised if this was my last post for the next few days. Receptions tend to go late. Which is why I did all my homework early. I didn't want to have to leave early just to finish homework. Blah.

Alright, falling asleep. Off to bed.

Yes, I'm aware this turned totally lame. But the next post I'll have actual material to post about.

if you'd like to make a call, please hang up and try again. if you need help hang up and then dial your operator...

Querque!

and the towels are oh-so fluffy

yep, 1:09, definitely back-posting and then crashing.

wait a minute, I'll go check.........NO! we're out of bear claws!

psycho killer, qu'est-ce que c'est...

Oh Leadership/Management how I love thee.

Though I'm still blaming her for the months I tied everything to Shackleton.

And still do on occasion.

But you've made up for it because I've literally copy/pasted all of my own reference work - which is allowed because I wrote it and I researched it and I created the charts - basically took the demographics powerpoint and turned it into a community analysis paper that's 11 pages - and I was worried about 7, geez. Now all that's left is to input article quotations and specific library statistics that I'll ask one of my bosses for tomorrow. Actually I already emailed her, hopefully she'll know what I'm talking about.

So that was handy as I only really had to create like 2 more graphics and then used all the info from the presentation and turned the speech I was going to give into the actual paper including why it's important to keep these specific demographics in mind when considering the collection and library budget and programs, etc.

Anyway, as it is now 11:45 I am going to finish the rest tomorrow. Hopefully it won't take too long before I can submit it and then be done with it.

Then I'll be good until next week and won't have to freak about leaving the reception early to go home and do homework.

Cause that kind of kills the fun.

Called my dad today cause his birthday was yesterday - which I remembered yesterday but got swamped with homework so I called today instead - after that I called Oldest Sister as today was her birthday.

Invited me to some makeup party thing.

To which I clearly said no, cause that's really not my thing and I also have a huge assignment that I'm working on.

Then she came back with home makeup is healthy cause it blocks out the sun and as our immediate family is plagued with skin cancer apparently I should now start wearing makeup so that I will not get it on my face.

Interesting technique.

See what I meant about devious family?

Speaking of devious, I set up an appointment with the dentist. Yes, they finally called my cellphone instead of the work phone.

They want me to go there sometime in September. Does it make me a bad person that I scheduled it for the end of the month so that I have time to start flossing like I should have started 6 months ago?

It takes forever!

And it's awkward and weird and I just forget about it in the first place.

Whatever, I'll start eventually. I got time.

I need to stop drinking so much pop.

Today I went with diet coke, does that count?

Isn't there less sugar in that?

So yes, work, then homework, got to show a volunteer the IT department today. He volunteered for 4 hours  and helped answer computer questions. I felt bad cause it was super quiet when he was there. Oh well, he's done. As are all three of my GoPo volunteers to all I have left are the regulars and they know what they're doing. Woohoo!

Aside from that it was all homework.

And I should crash cause tomorrow will probably be yet another late night.

There she was just a-walkin' down the street, singin'

Wow, that was some really crappy posting for the past couple days.

Grammar-wise.

Well, content-wise as well.

But they're fixed.

For the most part.

Sadly this is the most coherent I've been at the keyboard all week.

Luckily it's only Wednesday and there's still time to fix that.

Today was pretty good. I didn't go in until 1PM - which was good since I was up 'til about 6. I attempted to work some more after I posted, but that was an epic disaster and then my cat kept waking me up. Think he was ticked cause I kept him up.

He sleeps on my stomach so he doesn't like it when I stay up late. Cause that means he has to stay up late.

It's not like I do it on purpose, and he could sleep anywhere else.

Sometimes he'll lay on the couch or the floor or the chair and just glare at me. Cause he knows that I know that he wants to sleep and I'm keeping him awake.

And since it's his apartment and I just stay here - his thoughts not mine - I should abide by his rules.

Okay, I'm doing the Garfield voice again, it needs to stop.

Anyway, so yes, 6AM. So that made work quite interested. Everyone thought I was depressed and kept asking if I was okay.

I'm fine, just exhausted and overloaded. Hoping to crash sometime within the next hour - it's 11:16 - so that I can be coherent in the morning.

If I go in.

I've been feeling crappy-ish lately. Like I keep waking up all burning up. But then I get up and I have no fever. It hits during the day as well. End of day I was seriously feeling it, even Mentor asked if I was okay cause I was all flushed and flustered. If any of you say anything about hot flashes I will kick your ass.

I just feel dead. I'm losing my voice but don't have a cough. I'm exhausted all the time, but I think that's just stress and lack of sleep. My head doesn't hurt and I'm not puking so I'll be fine. It's all mental after all.

Just need to keep myself distracted, like the awesomeness that was dinner tonight with the Cool Aunt. We went out for sushi at our normal place. We go there so often that we're literally making our way through their menu. Like items 1-4, then came 5-8, tonight was presumably going to be 9-12 but we instead went with 9,12-14 because she doesn't like the BBQ eel that would have been included in item numbers 10 and 11.

Which is fine with me, the ones we got rocked. And I literally have half of them in my fridge. They will probably be gone by the time this post is finished. Because you know now that I'm talking about them I'll want to go get them. For some reason sushi is better in the middle of the night. Why is that? There's a reference question for you.

We talked the usual family stuff, library stuff, school stuff, Library Goddess stuff. Apparently I'm doing something right with the grad assistantship as she said the Goddess is pleased. There really is no escaping cause the Library Goddess carpools and team teaches with the Cool Aunt, and she's like BFF's with Superwoman aka my boss. And now Superwoman and the Cool Aunt are acquainted so I'm super screwed.

Not that I was planning on leaving the profession anyway.

I finally found my place in the world and I like it here.

Aside from all the homework and stress and all that.

But dinner helped. And she paid. I swear, the women in this family fight over every bill. It's never like a, yeah okay, you can pay this one. I'll let you. We're devious. The only time I actually successfully paid the bill for a sushi night with the Cool Aunt was because I hid my debit card on under my phone on the table and when the bill came I grabbed it, shoved the card in and handed it back before she knew what hit her.

And the only time I've paid for Mexican at our favorite joint is because she was distracted by the fried icecream.

And mom was gone trying to find her missing wallet.

Otherwise she would have gotten it before me.

Like I said, serious business.

My favorite is when the Cool Aunt caves and lets Grams pay for dinner every once in a while, then she puts money into her Grams envelope she keeps in her purse.

Devious business.

That should have been my answer.

This dude - my newest stalker in the group that is ever-increasing and slightly disturbing, okay more than slightly - came in tonight asking how a broke grad student can afford a sushi night out.

When he comes in again I'll just say I have a devious aunt who steals the bill from the waitress's hand before I can.

Anyway, so after dinner came the inevitable homework.

Which I've been dreading all day.

I have however finished both Friday and Saturdays assignments aka the IT paper and online reference quiz. Now all I have left is the community analysis and since that's basically the demographics study I did in last year's Leadership/Management class I plan on completely pilfering all my charts and just updating all the new stats.

I'm allowed to do that, I created them.

It was amusing, I was feeling completely overwhelmed and then I found all my notes and research and went, oh. I knew that already. We're good. Geez, there's even a demographics tag on here, how long ago was that created?!

Now it's just about finding the new statistics and putting it all together. I'm not looking forward to the whole 7 pages that doesn't include a bibliography or any of the charts thing though. But I'm guessing I'm not the only one with that.

Alright, gonna see if the stats match up - if so there will be much rejoicing. But that's for tomorrow's post.

she's a hardcore, candy store, gimme some more girl...

Oh my god,

Feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment.

This will probably be labeled as 11:50PM but it is currently 4:18AM

And even though I don't go in until 1PM I still need to fall asleep within the next few minutes to be fully functional tomorrow.

I was thinking I could handle all the classes, but they're deceptive. They ease you into them then throw all the assignments at you at once. I'm still up and have only finished one assignment and that's only because it took like 20 minutes total. Online quiz - once you do the readings you're gold.

Apparently I can no longer just sit and work for 3 hours straight, I keep getting distracted.

And it doesn't help that I have a psycho cat that tries to bite me every 5 minutes.

I still have a IT topics paper that I need to write and find sources for and a huge community analysis project that I have no idea idea where to start. It's all about planning your programs around your community and all that. I mean, it makes sense, but I literally just did this last year for Leadership/Management. I'm assuming the statistics have changed since then. I hate the census website, it's obnoxious and confusing.

Plus they're saying it has to be around 7 pages plus charts plus bibliography and it's like, ahhhh.

Hoping I'll make it in tomorrow - felt like crap today and woke up all burning up but no fever.

Okay, that's all negative. What was positive? I got to show off my sweet bruise today at work. It's amusing cause I just assume that Queen of the Known Universe has read this before she comes to work so when I approached her and asked if she wanted to see my bruise she was all over it. It's rockin' and has spread to between my toes. No idea how it did that but the swelling is gone, just kind of a bump thing in the middle.

Tomorrow I'm headed out for sushi with the Cool Aunt. Stoked for that, we've started to just go through the menu from top to bottom. I think we're on items 9-12.

But unless I want to fail all my classes that might be the only real night I'll be able to go out. Unless I can manage to work on more tonight or after dinner tomorrow. I'm still hoping to see the boyfriend at some point, as I actually like spending time with this one.

Which is a change from the norm.

I literally can't keep my eyes open so I'm doubting there will be more done tonight. I'll take my ipad tomorrow and work on it over lunch. I'll pull through, I always do.

She's So Mean - Matchbox 20
mix up of hot chelle rae and something else that's very similar to the 0:24-0:38 but for the life of me I can't remember what it is. i'm sure i'll think of it the second i've posted this. eh.

yes, officially 4:46AM. sleep. now.

howl at the moon, shoot out the light, it's a small town Sunday night...

So I'm on third, Pastor at the plate and he hits one straight at my head. I ducked and missed it. However, next pitch sent one straight at my feet.

Apparently I don't have the hops I used to have.

But I was on the base so I wasn't out and since it hit me when I was on the line it got called fair. Though Pastor didn't run, he mostly stood there for a while, then went to the base when the ump - who happens to be my cousin - said to go.

I didn't think it was so bad then I got home and went, WHOA! So now I have a sweet bruise on my foot. A big X on my second toe and a nice swollen bump and bruise right below that big toe.

My own Pastor, geez.

We won - vs Methodists - 13-6. Had some really good innings so that was lots of fun.

Sadly that will be it for my softball season as someone - not naming names but it wasn't one of ours - suggested they make the games earlier so more people would be able to make it.

And then ironically even more people on their team couldn't make it.

I'm seriously super bummed. Just got the t-shirt designs done and all that.

But I guess I got my token injury so I can be done. Torn up leg and now the foot. Joan wrapped my foot when we went out for icecream. It's amusing to have like 3 medical professionals on our team. Actually a good thing for me since I'm accident-prone.

So she wrapped that then I took it off to shower tonight. Should take a picture of the sweet bruise and upload it.

Before that game was gypsy caroling at the nursing home - we float from room to room so a few years ago we were labeled as the gypsies. It's family day so we go around and sing camp songs and all that. Like 3rd year we've done it. Was myself, Pastor, his wife, Homey-G-Wigger and of course our Gypsy Leader Liz.

Before that was yet another softball game - though this time was for my brother's birthday. Divided us up into teams accordingly. Brother just got a pitching machine that he's pretty proud of so we tried that for a bit. Got me warmed up for tonight's game. Though I still sucked it up. Sister-in-law and I pass the bad luck curse back and forth, I told her to keep it with her for the night since she couldn't make it but no luck.

Alright, falling asleep at the board. Have a good one.

quit playin' games with my heart.

I'm turning back into horrible blogger lady, I'm sorry.

To be fair I didn't go to bed until like 5AM last night as I was finishing up my homework and then updating the spreadsheet for grad assistant stuff. Pretty sure I emailed it back to her at like 4:30AM which meant she probably read it half an hour later and went, "what's she doing up already?"

Morning people.

I am not one.

But I can be if it gets me coffee and apparently an ipad.

Which I'm loving by the way. Downloaded some cool apps - mostly educational as it is for school stuff and life stuff.

But since I still have my laptop and my ipod and my smartphone I'm trying not to take it everywhere with me and overload it.

Especially since it's not officially mine. Dropping that in one of my many badly timed klutzy moments could lead to epic conclusions.

Speaking of epic today was pretty great. Had our big Hunger Games party for the teens today at the park. I had 5 show up which is actually pretty good for us at events. They all sound stoked about it at the meetings but then they get busy and all that. Which is fine because it wasn't just my kids, there were other library branch's TAB groups as well. I think we ended with 39 kids? Plus 5 leaders - well, 4 leaders and 1 impromptu leader who is fantastic. We needed a guy's perspective and he used to work at the work branch with me so I miss seeing him around.

He is the expert on all things Star Wars, we even had Star Wars themed food for his going away party.

Anyway, Hunger Games, we had a stale bread toss - if you've read the book you'll get that reference, they didn't really explain it in the movie just a few timely clips - shower caps covered in shaving cream and packing peanutes, and they all dressed up in the clothes I had from camp for the makeover your counselor activity.

I'm calling it a victory, it was quite amusing.

After that I headed out to see the boyfriend. He changed my oil cause he's car-savy like that, then we went out to dinner and watched the Husker game at Applebees with his friend. Who's pretty cool. And I'm attempting to play matchmaker. But we'll see how that goes. More on that later.

Yes the Huskers got hosed, but it wasn't all that surprising since we looked so strong last week.

Which probably doesn't make sense to you so here's my explanation: It was too good to be true. Rex as a star but Abdullah as a killer backup, Air Martinez 78% in passing, the only thing that needed work was defense and special teams. a lot of work for special teams.

Tonight Maher was a little better with aim but still not quite perfect. If he doesn't straighten it out Pelini's gonna be auditioning new kickers. Nebraska's always had fantastic kickers. And he was so great last year, who's putting what in his cheerios?

Sometimes I forget that these are just college kids.

Younger than I am.

Just cause I'm so used to watching the games growing up. They seemed so much older way back when. Now they still do even though I'm probably at least 2 years older than anyone on the field. Minus the coaching staff.

But that's Nebraska football, they're heroes in this state. Famous even. Looked up to.

Which means they better turn things around real quick or we're screwed.

Though I did jump for joy when I heard Wisconsin lost. Sucks for them.

Where was I?

Yes, Hunger Games, the boyfriend and his friend, football game....for the life of me I can't remember a single thing from yesterday. Aside from the fact I did homework all night cause I knew I didn't have to be awake 'til 12:15PM.

I think I worked all day.

I think.

I know at one point I emailed my TAB schedule to my boss for her to look it over. I'm hoping it'll officially get approved, otherwise my kids will be super bummed out. And myself too.

So I guess that's all I got cause I don't remember anything else. Though I'm sure I will the second after I post this.

Big day tomorrow - church, b-day party for brother with softball game at the farm, singing at nursing home for family day then church league softball at night.

Should be warmed up after the game in the afternoon. Concerned about the time-table especially if it makes us late for the night game. Oh crap, I was supposed to make up some t-shirts. I'll look into that tonight. See if there's a way to post the design to Facebook. Would be easier than printing them off.

Alright, off to do that then crash.

A Nightmare on Elm Street aka Sketch Uses the Code

There are no words for today.

I'll throw some out anyway.

Met up with the Library Goddess for coffee at 7AM.

Actually I got there at like 6:55 and the doors were still locked so I leaned against the building for a while.

Then, (after they opened) thinking I could get away with it, I went immediately to the counter to get my coffee, I put in the order, I reached for my wallet and suddenly "Hey, put that away!"

The woman won't let me pay for coffee. So close yet so far, I thought I could beat her to it.

Instead I get a "hold this!" as she holds out a bag for me to grab. "what is it?" "your ipad." "my what?"

So apparently waking up to meet her before I'm completely conscious is worth it. I get coffee and an ipad.

And a list of stuff to do with said-ipad, but still, it's an ipad.

That's mine until May cause that's when the assistantship ends.

We met up super early this morning since I had to be at work by 8:30 but then our meeting really only took like half an hour so I ended up going to work at like 7:35 - pretty sure I freaked out Boss's Boss's Boss. I was all set up in youth services with the ipad, my laptop and then all my contact stuff I was updating when she walked in and paused when she saw me. We talked grad school for a while then she left. And was followed by multiple members of administration - I didn't realize they got there so early. No wonder they're all gone by 5.

Anyway, so I had to get there at 8:30 along with the BossLady and Slim Shady because we had a group of college kids who were there to volunteer. We basically cleaned the library top to bottom. Started with all the computers on the first and second floors, cleaned all the tables and chairs, dusted shelves, cleaned the books on CD area which is always gross, organized youth services, even washed each individual chair upstairs on the fourth floor. And there are like at least a hundred. They had them all sat out in a row and worked together to wash, dry, and stack. It was amusing but effective.

They were actually really great kids, I was impressed and super grateful for their help without any complaints. That part was my favorite, we got them started and that was their focus. And they asked to come back again next year so apparently I didn't scare them off completely.

So, after cleaning with them I attempted to finish all that TAB stuff I was attempting to do yesterday and yet again was interrupted by all sorts of flukes. Running out of printer paper with no backup in sight - because I've had no time to do supplies at all - and then my personal favorite was when a guy came to place an ILL request, from our side it said he was disavowed though he didn't have any fines and then on our ILL staff side in the basement it said his account was fine.

No idea what was going on, something to do with a second card but he said he'd never had another card then remember he had one once that was all worn out but by this time the Interlibrary Loan Goddess was already on the case and get it fixed. Felt bad for the dude cause I had no idea what was going on. But he seemed pretty cool and very patient, so again, grateful.

So, busy morning, flukish afternoon which led to an even more busy day cause those both happened at the same time and there were literally like 10 people in line and it was just the three of us. Awkward.

Oh well, we made it unscathed.

After work the boyfriend came up and we went to see "Possession" it intrigues me that Kyra Sedgwick would rather have her family torn apart by a demon than take down bad guys with LAPD's finest.

Just saying.

Scale of Awesome puts it at around 5/10. It was interesting....kinda cheesy, though the majority of it did scare the hell out of me so I was tempted to make the boyfriend check my apartment, though I don't think you can really see demons so it wouldn't do any good. Besides he had to head out cause he had to work tonight at 11.

And asking would just make me sound weak and pathetic.

Though I'm pretty sure he knew that already since I was like grabbing his arm every other minute during the loud and scary scenes.

So, big huge extravaganza of a day, hoping things will be much more boring tomorrow since I have to redo all my TAB stuff, plus stock supplies, plus cleanup all the cleaning supplies from today, plus finish up the assignments from the Library Goddess and then the last question left on my homework quiz.

Boring.

Yay.

Root for boring, please.

Moving on.

Yesterday you got Sketch Meets the Parents, today you get the sequel. Well, technically it's more like 5th in the series, but you catch my drift.

First was this: Sketch Gets Some Flowers
Next was this: Sketch and Edit Buy Some Plants
Yesterdays was this: Sketch Meets the Parents
Code reference comes from here: Sketch and Edit Cook a Turkey

there are others that you should read in a certain order but none of those are included today so I'll shutup.

Edit – “Curses, King Henry has cut off my head!”

E – “You need to come home because I am decapitated. And even though I can still talk it is, in fact, an emergency and I need you to come and drive me to the hospital. Now. You need to come now, there’s blood all over the couch and I’m hungry and I can’t eat without a head because I can’t see the food to eat it and I don’t have a mouth to put it in and then there will be no food because I have no head so then I will die, like actually die and…”
S – “We’re clear, I’m outside. Are you watching The Tudors again?”
E – “Yep. Bad?”
S – “You know Hitler?”
E – “Not on a first name basis, but yes, I’m familiar with him.”
S – “Imagine him with long brown hair staring at you while you’re trying to eat a salad.”
E – “Is this with or without the mustache?”
S – “You need to come get me.”
E – “You don’t think they’re going to see through that?”
S – “I know. I hate you.”
E – “You like this guy right?”
S – “I’m eating dinner with his mother, I think that’s a definite sign.”
E – “Well, it’s not like you had much choice in the matter, but you seem to like the guy and you glow when you come home and you’re all happy giddy Sketch all the time. He seems worth all this and you don’t want to throw that away because you can’t stand to be in the same room with his mother for more than an hour, do you?”
S – “No.”
E – “So just finish the salad-”
S – “But she’s staring at me!”
E – “Then stare back!”
S – “What if her jaw unhinges and she bites off my head?”
E – “Well, then we’re screwed cause I’m already decapitated.”
S – “Who will drive us to the hospital?”
E – “Plantman?”
S – “Maybe.”
E – “Oh, is he not on our side anymore?”
S – “Undetermined. But he can’t think it’s going well, right? I mean, when your mother grills your dates about their personal lives and finds a way to make every answer sound like they’re a hillbilly with no hope or future do you think it’s going well?”
E – “Don’t know, haven’t really had a relationship that’s lasted longer than a mento so there’s been no need for introductions.”
S – “That’s cause you’re a commitment-phobe.”
E – “Look who’s talking.”
S – “Hey, I’m here aren’t I?”
E – “Yes, but you don’t want to be. Just breathe, go back inside, finish the salad and say it’s a school night so you need to get back to work on lesson plans. Which it is, and you do. I’ll see you when you get home.”
S – “If I don’t jump out on the interstate first.”
E – “Don’t jump out on the interstate – drive a motorcycle and get someone to door you, it’s a much better way to go.”
S – “Alright. I’m going back in. Thanks.”
E – “Anytime. By the way, was that a ‘parlay’ at the end of that text?”
S – “I thought it was fitting.”
E – “I think we found our new codeword.”
