I could write a blog. I have thoughts.

Life at the library, adventures with friends and other hysterics...

She said I love the way you think but I hate the way you act.

I was totally productive today. I'm proud of myself. You would be too. Cleaned my room - like officially unpacked. I've lived here over a year now, it was time. But the boxes are gone, stuff is put away in the closet, posters are on the wall, stuff is shredded and in the trash - all while I listened to my audio book for class. Ha! Multi-tasking. I'm on disc 9 out of 14 so it was good day.
Except for the bookdrop thing. I'm all for bookdrops. I love them. They're easy and awesome, until you have to climb in one. I just felt like showering all morning. But we had so much stuff since we were closed for two days and it was overflowing. Blah. Lots and lots of checking in. But I just shelved - huzzah! And I actually shelved everything before noon so that was exciting. Then came back here intending to shower and nap but instead listening to my book and deciding it was time to unpack. I worked hard today. And actually feel a sense of accomplishment. So huzzah! to that.

But yeah, disc 9 of 14 on book #7. I'm thinking of burning the rest of them on my computer and uploading them to my ipod so I can listen on the go. A decent book so far, it's pretty intriguing but I still wish I could get through it faster so I can figure out what's really going on. There's a lot of backstory, so there's more things revealed in every chapter. I have to finish it just to figure out what everything means! I actually got this for a decent price off Amazon but a bunch of my classmates got it for free on some trial thing on there. Totally jealous. Anyway, tomorrow I need to go shopping, so then I can multitask as well if it's on my ipod. I need pop, cat food, human food, light bulbs, and more pop. I'm hoping that writing these down - well, putting these out there - will help me to remember what I need. But of course I'll forget.

Okay, one more thing, I think Facebook needs a "poke all" button. Just because so many people freaking poke me - it's a poke war basically - and it takes forever to hit "poke back". It'd be nice to just hit one button and be done.

"No Such Thing"

my favorite of his songs, other than "Daughter"

"Always" Rilo Kiley

although the song doesn't really start start until like 1:48, not sure why the intro is so long. kind of annoying. i always find myself skipping ahead. so that's my advice to you. if you actually listen to the song, skip ahead to around 1:40. from then on, awesomeness.

and since that one had a late start and was more like a half I'll hit you with another.
"Steal My Kisses" Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals

another late start, skip to 0:40.

On this lovely bella notte....

I couldn't post last night since our internet was done but I'll try not to ramble on too long tonight.

Anybody do anything special for Memorial Day? I remember, a few years ago, we went to a cemetary with one of my uncles and he was telling this story - apparently, one of our relatives was quite the drinker and the doctor told him it was unhealthy so he should stop. The dude looks at the doctor and says, "I know a lot more old drunks than old doctors." Awesome.

I was actually pretty productive this weekend. I cleaned out a section of my closet, had a camp meeting - led the thing even though i'm the youngest - sent out a bunch of application letters - after stuffing envelopes and writing addresses for a couple hours. Feels good. But the letters are out so I should get more forms this week. Then it'll just be camp central.

I also am on disc #3 out of 14 for Book #7. We have to listen to the audio version and I'll listen to more of that tomorrow between shifts while I clean my apartment....I say in a semi-dream state, it's highly probably that I'll nap instead.

Tonight I went over to oldest sister's house to have dinner and watched I Am Number Four - which I talked about on here earlier. It was the one we went to and didn't know anything about it so we said if it sucked we'd just make commentary. It was surpringly entertaining. Just like Swamp People. "Shoot it Jacob!"

"Work Hard, Play Harder" Gretchen Wilson

love it, and the videos cool with the images projected on the barn.

"Bella Notte" Glee version

been in my head all weekend. love the 1:18 switchover to acapella. although it's not much of a beautiful night tonight. storm central!

alright, i'm out. work tomorrow.

Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles to fall down at your door.

Gotta love Dad's TV. It's huge. But it's also filled with the most random DVR'd stuff ever. Ranges from "Body of Proof" - mom's choice since she's already taping 2 things in her room at that time - to "Hee Haw". And oh my god, don't get him started on Hee Haw. Seriously.

But I'm in here tonight since Aunt and Uncle are staying over in my room. Not a problem, I like this couch and this TV is seriously nice.

Let me scroll through my DVR options here, I already caught up on my "Body of Proof", next up:

American Pickers. Hilarious. Now if only they could come to the farm and look in Dad's old buildings. It's a good show, every once in a while I watch it. I can do without his endless metaphors though.

Then Swamp People. Oh my god. I'm still laughing.
Aunt D: "What do you think of him?"
Me: "I think he looks like my ex boyfriend."
But mine had better teeth. Same sense of humor. Can you believe people do that for a living? This episode is the "Gator Gauntlet" and there's some dude catching them alive with his bare hands.

Gonna skip past "O'Reilly Factor" ...think I'd rather watch "Swamp People". Then there's "American Restoration" "Pawn Stars" "Market to Market" ...was that "Fringe"?!?! It is! Must be one of Mom's. What's "Imus in the Morning" ? Says business/financial...SKIP! Hmmm... "Classic Tractor Fever".... hmmm... interesting title, but no. GLEE! Yay for another one of Mom's. New York episode sounds good. I'll probably konk out about halfway through anyway.

Just one tonight:

"500 Miles" The Proclaimers

aww, yay for young johnny! love 1:38. fantastic.

Alright, out for the night.

Friday, May 27, 2011

Justin Bieber has left your page.

Let's just leave it at that. Seriously. Yes, I like pie, but no I'm not going to tell you that over an instant message service at work.

Alright, both books are read, all homework is finished and posted. Concrete poem in place. Not my favorite but it works. I turn a bit perfectionist about these things.

Smo and I are watching 30 Rock, loving it totally.
-"No, Liz. Cinderella is blonde. You can be Snow White and party with the little people."
-"We gotta boogie, gang."

...fantastic.

alright, in his honor, he's the songs of the night.
"Baby" Glee version

"Somebody to Love" also Glee version

love it.

OUT!

Thursday, May 26, 2011

I hear you knocking, go back where you been.

Halfday at work, staff meeting, then back room then public service, public service. Then I finished both Book #5 and #6 plus did the whole homework for #5 plus started on homework for book #6 all in 10 hours. I just gotta finish posting wiki stuff for #6 tonight before I crash. Then I'll do the concrete poem tomorrow. We basically have to write a poem but make it appealing visually in some sort of shape that fits the poem. I'm thinking of writing mine on one of the side characters and putting it in the shape of a camera as she is a photographer. However, I am artistically challenged - ask Sketch - so that may change as I write the thing. Maybe I'll post it on here if it doesn't totally suck.

So, that said, it was homework and reading central this afternoon although I did break for food sometime this evening and watched some 30 Rock - hysterical. Loving Liz Lemon.

Songs for the night:

"I Hear You Knocking" Wynonna Judd

My favorite version of the song - karaoke classic, btw. fantastic jam out song.
Although the whole gospel music channel thing made me laugh.

"Rescue Me" Fontella Bass

sorry about the screaming in the beginning. you may have to adjust your volume.

Tomorrow I think I'm at both places all day, I'll have to check my book before I go anywhere. And we are closed Sunday and Monday! Huzzah! So it's just Friday and Saturday left. But yeah, work then homework. That's life.

sorry, couldn't resist. one of my favorite scenes, and yes, add in the headphones and that is totally how i clean everything. dancing like an idiot. it makes cleaning fun.

The Words I Couldn't Say

At lunch today it was hilarious. Slim Shady was looking at a magazine that had a picture of J-Lo in this like giant gold outfit. All sparkly and god-y and just like, whoa. It was seriously just whoa. So I was like,
"You should totally get that and wear it to work."
and Boss's Boss's Boss was there, she looks over and says, "It's not shorts..." and walks away. I laughed so hard. Cause yeah, that's basically our only policy. No shorts. I take that as a thumbs up from Boss's Boss's Boss, and really, who's gonna argue with her?

Only worked 'til 4 today, then had dinner with some family and oh man, was feeling bad for that waitress. Lots of food, kids galore.... anyway, three drinks later and I'm back on my couch getting ready to read until I fall asleep.

So, music for tonight and then I'm gone. We'll go with soundtracks, cause I love them.

"Words I Couldn't Say" Leighton Meester - Country Strong

love this song. this and their duet I think are the best. well that and Country Strong itself. Gwyneth is awesome, but this girl has got some serious talent.

"Just My Immagination" The Cranberries at P3 - Charmed

love the song and this ep. fantastic. yes, i'm a nerd, get over it.

OUT!

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

You'll probably move right through me on my way to you.

Okay, it's official, I've been at both branches for a year. Woohoo! Huzzah! And other celebration declarations!

Spent the morning shelving, then the afternoon watching more DVDs that are checked out and due soon plus did a little reading. I'm hoping to get down to only a hundred pages left in Book #5 by the end of the night. But that's just hoping, I might fall asleep in the meantime. I've been exhausted all day. Was up way too late last night. But Bridesmaids was hysterical and you know when you're on like an emotional high and you just can't sleep? That was me. So I watched half a season of Frasier, seriously like two discs worth of episodes to zen me out but it didn't work. I think I was out by maybe 3 or so. Then, at like 7AM, somebody like buzzed or beeped - I guess it's more of a loud beep - me and I don't know if they were intentionally hitting my button or if they just needed in or what but I totally just laid there hoping they would go away. And I checked my phone to make sure it wasn't like my mother saying why aren't you awake and letting me in? But no messages and no second beeps so I think it was just someone forgetting their keys or something. Cause, clearly, if it was meant for me and it's before 10AM they're crazy. Unless they're my mother, who usually gives some level of forewarning. And she brings things like coffee or bananas. So it's worth it.

Was that more thunder? Seriously? Although I guess I shouldn't be complaining as my apartment building is still intact unlike some houses and things that were destroyed earlier this week. YIKES! Must be natural disaster season.

"Paralyzer" - finger eleven

See, at first I thought he was just a spy. But dancing spy ninja-looking person, so much cooler.

"Beautiful Girls" Sean Kingston

awesome video.

Alright, tomorrow is a short day then dinner with some family so I'm gonna read and konk out. Have a good night.

Monday, May 23, 2011

Totally hilarious but highly inappropriate.

Went to see Bridesmaids and oh my god, so funny but sooo inappropriate. I was laughing so hard. Kristen Wiig is fantastic, as is Maya Rudolph but the best one was Melissa McCarthy. She was hysterical in every scene.

What's really funny though is that half those scenes/lines aren't in the actual movie but it's still hilarious. Cause usually, you know, the preview shows the funniest parts then the rest is like eh. The whole movie was hysterical. Totally hilarious but highly inappropriate.

My afternoon off was amazing. I should have been reading but instead I spent it watching DVDs I have checked out that are due soon.

More camp development today as well. The website is now officially been updated. If you weren't crazy going into this whole directing thing then you leave with some degree of insanity. But it's a good kind of crazy. If that doesn't sound crazy in itself.

Just one for tonight but I'm totally jamming.
"You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling" Righteous Brothers

awesome. i know the bff is probably searching for top gun clips on youtube now.

think i'm gonna grab an icecream bar and konk out.

Sketch and Edit Discuss a Serious Matter

"Do I smell burning crab?"
"It's cajun!"
More Frasier, I feel like I should finish the series. I had to keep watching until Niles and Daphne got together but now that they're together then it was until he proposed. And now he proposed so does this mean I have to watch 'til the wedding? Then the kids? Man.

Work flew by, as it usually does, and Team Awesome was reunited for two hours, huzzah! Then came home and sat out on the balcony with my big fat cat. It's good I live on the third floor since that keeps him from jumping and running away. I'm grateful he's a big chicken. I read half of Book #5. It's alright so far, but I don't know a lot about ships so I'm a little confused. I'll figure it out, it's pretty intriguing.

aaannd look, it's Bellamy Young. Who also shares my birthday. She's guest starred in pretty much all of my favorite shows. Frasier, NCIS, Grey's Anatomy, Castle, plus the awesomeness that was Ellen Darling in Dirty Sexy Money. Too bad about those high heels. I'm telling you, you really have to plan out your entire outfit when you kill someone in a jealous rage. Although, that would mean you'd have to predict when you were going to have a jealous rage so that you could dress properly. There was actually an entire Sketch and Edit dedicated to that moment. Here, I'll find it.

Sketch and Edit Discuss a serious matter
Edit - *screams as Ellen Darling slips and hits her head on sink after unsuccessfully trying to kill her husband* "Oh my god! Did that just happened?"
Sketch – "That’s what you get when you go to kill your husband in the wrong shoes."
E – "You really think changing out of those stilettos would have made it successful?"
S – "Couldn’t hurt."
E – "She was drunk and filled with rage. I don’t think she had a chance to think ‘Hmm, I should go put on my combat boots before I grab a fireplace poker to kill my husband while he’s in the shower.’ Clearly she was far too inebriated for rational thought."
S – "It was still a bad idea. She needed something with traction. Every psycho killer should know that."
E – "Something with a non-stick grip?"
S – "I like how her feet went all the way over her head like that."
E – "That’s a lot of glass. He shouldn’t be kneeling next to her barefoot."
S – "Maybe he wore shower shoes."
E – "In his own shower?"
S – "See, these shows are filled with faulty logic!"
E – "Kinda like how Denny came back from the dead?"
S – "Yeah, that’s just stupid. Dead Denny must die."

But the great thing about Bellamy is I play this game where, if I see her name in the title credits, I guess what hair color she's going to have. Cause you never know if she's going to be a blonde or brunette. It's amusing. We're alike in that aspect.

Songs for the night:
"A Punk" by Vampire Weekend

I remember first seeing these guys on SNL a few years ago, he was wearing this like giant scarf that was all I could look at. I didn't even see any of the background singers, just the giant scarf and strings sticking out of his guitar.

"Marry You" Glee cast version

Love Burt's dance moves. Totally make the song.

Tomorrow is a halfday then possible movie with some family and friends. Thinking food then Bridesmaids! Cause it looks hysterical. And I need a night out that's not class or camp or work related.

Here's Bellamy if you have no idea who I'm talking about.

yes i'm a nerd. but you knew that already.

OUT!

Saturday, May 21, 2011

I tried my best to leave this all on your machine but the persistent beat it sounded thin upon listening.

I freaking love grad school. The classes are fun, the assignments I actually look forward to doing since they're not just like regurgitating facts in a paper. We're writing concrete poems in shapes and building wikis and going to summer reading events, it's a completely interactive thing. Book reports that are a max of 4 minutes long. That's fantastic.
So class today was fun, as always - I'll upload my quotes tomorrow - she divided us up by our star signs and I actually met someone with my same birthday so that was exciting - my classmate in gradeschool and myself were born on the same day in the same hospital both grew up on farms both brunette, etc but it was just so funny and random today - then after class I was recruited to help move a wicker couch to her car from her office. Totally exciting. Actually it was pretty easy.
Tonight I went to Bek's dance recital - she was a super cute ballerina - and I ran into one of my college professors. She was actually my first college professor because she taught the first class I went to so it was fun to see her again. But yeah, like whole family was there, we went for ice cream after. Bek was excellent, and the other groups were pretty good too. We left at intermission because Bek was done but right before then was this men's group called the "Men in Black" that was basically the dad's of a bunch of the dancers. I told my brother in law I was expecting to see him up there next year.
Now I'm watching Parks and Rec Season One - excellent so far. I'll give you a SOA later.

For now, here's my recs of the night:

"Such Great Heights" The Postal Service

love it.

"Clean Slate" Kyler England

love love love this song! was stoked to see there was a live version.

out!...loving leslie knope...

Friday, May 20, 2011

Just stop! Cause I really love you...

Today in a nutshell...crap, now I'm quoting Austin Powers. "What kind of a shell has a nut like this?!"
Shelved and finished the weed list, then had lunch - chili and chicken salad sandwich same thing everyday - it was awesome, then spent the majority of my afternoon in the backroom which I actually like because I can get a lot done. After all that was homework which I'm finally finished with, huzzah!

Highlight of the day was tonight, got a text from the Cool Aunt telling me I'm supposed to help the Library Goddess move furniture after class tomorrow. So random it cracked me up. She's lucky I like her!

Songs for the night and then I'm out, early morning tomorrow!

"Fill Me In" Craig David

i'm sorry, but his standing on the balcony just cracks me up.
gotta love the song - grade school flashback.

aannnd from my favorite episode of Will and Grace - the Old Fashion Piano Party
"Love Will Keep Us Together"

"It's kind of like an old fashion bore but it has the words 'piano' and 'party' in it." I love Karen Walker.
and "Will" aka Eric McCormack has an excellent voice!

okay real version.

k, i lied. but i love this version! this was back when i was still watching the show. but i always do the dance and sing the harmony when i hear the song now. it stuck with me. i hope it sticks with you. but maybe minus the justin intro/ending. love how the crowd goes wild at 1:02...no way to predict who was going to win this year...haha. She deserved/s it!

actual real version and i'm out.

....this isn't dubbed what are you talking about?!...

Somewhere only we know....

Not much to say for today. Work was good - flew by pretty quickly. I actually got to see Slim Shady today so that was new as she has been sick and I haven't been around. John Boy and I also got to work together today - also new since we don't get scheduled together very much anymore.
Although, the definite highlight of the day was at lunch when Superwoman was all like "come here!" like all serious face and everything and she handed me her phone wanting me to beat a level of Angry Birds for her. Which is truly a serious matter. And I was stuck on that one when we were at the hospital. It took me all day to cave and buy that Mighty Eagle thing and have it demolish the whole house, taking the pigs with it. I hate it when one of them survives and it just laughs at you. Stupid pig.

Came home and read half of Book #4, which is pretty good so far. Tomorrow means finishing what I don't finish tonight then doing all the wiki stuff and uploading it. Then Saturday is class and hopefully after that I'll get to hang with some family or something. Or take a nap. That'd be nice too.

Thought I could make it all day without listening to this song but I couldn't. Here's your song for the night and I'm out.
"Somewhere only we know" Glee version of Keane

love both the original and this one.

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

"Oh, because Cheers was taken!"

So, it's official. My social life is dead and gone for the next 2 and a half months. I got my first camp application in the mail today. Geez. I just sent them out like two days ago. And I should be excited. Because I love camp! I seriously love it! I could ramble on about camp for days and days - I do, actually, to the BFF and I think it drives her bananas - but right now, I'm just trying to get through the whole grad school read your brains out thing. So, I think, for the most part, I'll upload the information into a spreadsheet and then deal with it later after the meeting. Which will hopefully either be this weekend or the next. I guess I should ask my partner about that one and if he has any updates on it. Gotta find a new binder as well - my old one is still stuffed with last years info and the year before that's as well. I have a whole corner in my bedroom filled with tubs stuffed with old camp forms, tshirts, bandanas, lanyards, envelopes with the old themes written on them, just like piled up in the corner. I should go through those as well.
I've lived here almost a year now - it'll be a year end of next week - and I still haven't completely unpacked. I now have pictures and paintings on the wall of the living room, so if you just go in there I can completely fool you. But if you make it past the bathroom to the bedroom then I'm toast. There's still boxes everywhere. And I don't even have posters on the walls. Which is soooo bizarre for me. Yes, I still act like a teenager in my decor choices. It drives my sister - well sisters - nuts.
So, this summer, aside from directing a camp, taking classes and working two jobs I will also not only empty all the boxes and put stuff away but also hang stuff up on the walls, get curtains that block out the sun - I hate myself every morning for putting that off - and...well, I'm sure I'll come up with something else later on. Other than clean. Which I also need to do.

But speaking of year anniversaries, I've now officially been at one of the branches for over a year....well, as of Monday I had anyway. Now it's been a year and two days...and still haven't had my 6 month evaluation. Which makes me laugh. But yes, a year. Huzzah! It's funny because it flew by. So it doesn't feel like it's been a year. And on the 24th I will have officially been at the other branch for a year. Although, technically, it was only for a temp position so my 1-year-official-anniversary isn't until like September 18th. Or 16th. I can't remember. I'll look into it later.

Songs for the night:

"Say Hey (I Love You)" - Michael Franti & Spearhead

love the video and the song. those drummers are sweet!

okay...what else....I'll put my ipod on shuffle and hit you with whatever comes up. nope, not that one...or that one...that one's just dumb...okay, i lied. i'll hit you with one when i find one that i haven't already recommended, doesn't suck or won't be stuck in my head for the rest of the night as i have to read and do homework stuff.

...close enough.

"Can't Fight the Moonlight" - LeAnn Rimes and Piper Perabo

because i like the final scene better than the music video.
i actually thought about this movie today during work - when she asks if she's on drugs and she's like "just coffee." See, THIS! is Maria Bello's perfect role. Seriously. This is who I see her as. So, don't go casting her in roles with British accents "Rick, watch out for those rocks!" I just cringe every time. I mean, the whole like 3 times I've watched it. I refuse. The Mummy isn't The Mummy without Rachel Weisz, I'm sorry. Okay, rant over. Anyway, this is Maria Bello man. HBIC bartender. Awesomeness. If you have no idea who I'm rambling about she's at 0:15 and she's the first one to scream. Piper's not bad herself, haha.
So yes, I do have the soundtrack and yes, it is amazing.
I'm still channeling Victoria... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt-ne7vkA40 I'll just keep posting it until you all actually go there and watch it. Or start protesting. Whichever happens first.

Book #3 is finished now I'm started on #4, I'll give you a S.O.A. on them when I finish that one and post all the info. Huzzah!

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Huzzah!

I seem to be saying that a lot lately. I'm not sure why, but it works in any situation - like there's an actual Huzzah! which is you know, worthy of a Huzzah! because it's awesome. And then there's the sarcastic huzzah. Minus the explanation point for when things aren't actually awesome.

Anyway, Huzzah! for the mother of all jP Weed lists! Weed list aka items that need to be weeded out of the collection and are put on a list to be pulled off the shelves. Anyway, I got all the way to the M's today and there's actually space on the shelves for new picture books now! Huzzah! I know you probably don't care and think it's weird that I'm this excited but seriously, I'm like ecstatic. Mostly because I'm a nerd but also because there's space to actually put things away now.
It was funny, we had this discussion in one of my Managing Collection classes with the Library Goddess about librarians who dread weed lists and those that enjoy them. Some librarians are like stuck on their collection. They think there are benefits of every item and that they should all stay. Which, I guess I can see. But then there's another type of librarian who isn't just interested in getting new material but also enjoys cleaning off the shelves. I've classified myself and Space Cadet as the latter. We are serious weeders. Is that a word? I'm making it one.
It's not like we go to the shelves and say, okay, all of these go. We have criteria...for the most part. But ultimately it's up to the awesomeness that is Collection Management. Huzzah! to them, seriously. They put up with a lot.

And yes, I'm aware you probably don't care, but that was my day. Weed lists and a night shift when we got people who came in five minutes before closing and wouldn't leave.
Oh, and I have a sore throat. Sort of. But my voice is gone. That was fun.
My arm is better though so it kind of evens out.

So, before I ramble more about work stuff or sick/injury stuff, I'll hit you with some music recs and finish my book/write up online. I'm about 3/4 done with Book #3, only about 50 pages left. It's cool, we're doing these online wikis for the books we're reading. I'm stoked. But, as previously mentioned, I'm a nerd. Which is funny, because I was told today that I'm popular. I literally laughed out loud at that. But, I have noticed that, because high school never ends - ask Bowling For Soup - there is actually kind of a popularity pyramid within the library system. And it's amusing.

Songs for the night:

I'd post BFS's high school never ends but I posted it here: My Life in Closed Captions: High School Never Ends
a while ago.

Instead I'll hit you with one of my favorite guitar songs. It's simple but I love it anyway.

"Daughters" - John Mayer

which is based off of this song:
"Isn't She Lovely" - Stevie Wonder

which gave us this song:
"Isn't She Lovely" - Glee version

more reverse screen action
Finn totally cracks me up at 0:56. or really throughout the whole song...

alright, finish book, write wiki stuff - or maybe i'll wait til i'm done with book #4 and do them at once, sleep. huzzah!

OUT!

Monday, May 16, 2011

For a while, maybe longer if I do.

I'm sorry my 80s music was stuck in your head. I sincerely hope that tonight's music won't get stuck there as well, mostly because of the first rec. Or anti-rec. But we'll get there.

What a day for your left arm to fail you. Seriously. Okay, I have this big fat Garfield-like cat. And he bites. A lot. You get used to it. I have marks all over my legs, whatever you move on. But last night, middle of the night, just out of nowhere, he bites my arm and draws blood. Like right on the muscle. It hurt like an expletive all day. And it was all swollen and gross this morning. Seriously hurt like an expletive. And, of course, on the day I would actually need it, is when it hurts to do like anything. Basically, I got to hang up artwork at the library today. At both branches. Not just one, but both. I felt special. It got delegated to me. Thank God I had Superwoman and both of our YS Goddesses to help out. I have no artistic vision - ask Sketch. But this way, I think they're sort of straight. Or they look straight from an angle. Hmmm... I guess we'll see tomorrow.
Anyway, we used the stapler at the first branch and I'm standing on this step stool thing with one good arm, trying to hold up the picture with the bad arm while stapling with the good one. It must have been a sight to see. I'm just shocked and proud that I didn't totally wipe out, taking a bunch of our computers with me. Gotta love bulletin board placement.
But now the swelling has gone down. "Big Brother" said I should get it checked out cause it might be infected, but I think it's good now. If I wake up and it's all like red and gross again then I'll call Second Sister as she's the smart and medical one in the family. Technically I am certified so I'm not like a total clueless dweeb. Well. Maybe not in that aspect of life. Moving on.

Tomorrow is split shift and during the split I gotta read at least one of my books. We get a short one and a long one, as seems to be the theme. I'll let you know how that goes.

Songs for the night:

Okay, is there such thing as an ANTI-Music Recommendation?
If there is then here it is.

"Friday" Rebecca Black

SERIOUSLY? I can't tell if this is like a serious song or if it's supposed to be awful... I just, I can't. I don't understand. And the dude? that comes in with his big watch driving his car? Seriously?!
It's not just that she doesn't have a voice meant for singing. It's the lyrics and it's just a cheesefest. I just. I can't. Just no. And does that kid look legal to drive to you?!
Just say no. Totally killed the best day of the week. Geez.

this version however...

ya it's backwards - ignore the reverse screen. hysterical. they! could pull this off.

Whatever. THIS! is real music.
"Amie" Pure Prairie League

back to the classics.

"My Sharona" The Knack

awesome.

and just as a bonus:

"I Can't Do It Alone" Chicago

you know you've seen the movie too many times when you're jammin' to the song on your ipod and doing the dance moves.
Is it me, or does Catherine Zeta-Jones playing Velma Kelly seem similar style-wise to Naya Rivera playing Santana Lopez? Maybe it's the attitude.

You spin me round with your pop muzik.

I was totally productive today! I know, shocker! But it was camp central! After work central. Shelved everything except the picture books since we're out of room. Gonna have to figure out what to do about that tomorrow.
Anyway, it was totally camp central. Wrote out the application forms, talked to my partner in crime, and Pastor, sent the new forms to him to hand out tomorrow at his meeting, plus to our website guy and a bunch of teachers in our district so they can promote it. Picked a few dates for a possible meeting - which needs to happen soon - and started a new folder for all incoming stuff. It sounds a lot simpler than it actually was. Or maybe not.
Now I'm starving. Woops, forgot about supper...Mmmm...cereal sounds good...
But now, aside from starting to write the skits, I just prep for the meeting which means working on a schedule and looking at the budget.

Oh, also bought the new Word program so I'm having SOOO much fun updating each individual word/works file on my computer. Ugh.

Yay a preview for Pirates! Gonna be weird without Orlando and Keira.

Songs for the night:
"Pop Muzik" - M

awesome song and video - favorite memory was when I was at my sister's and I taught my niece and nephew (aged 2 and 3 at the time) the refrains and they were running around the house singing "shoo-be-doo-be-doo-wop" "bop-bop-shoo-wop"

and, oh my god, have you SEEN THIS VIDEO?!
"You Spin Me Round" Dead or Alive

that's just fantastic.

and i'm out.

So you'll remember what I forgot to say...

Write this down!

Class today was awesome, as always. Had to stop for gas on the way. See, Maggie used to beep at me when I was running out of gas, Jarvis just has this light in the corner of the dash. And I'm soooo good at checking the dash...not. Ask my parents. "How long as that oil gage been broken?" "Um, a while?" "WHAT?!"

So, 12 books in 6 weeks. 2 down, 2 for next week. Soon it'll be an audio book, got it off Amazon.com and apprently it's really long but since I'm not driving back and forth between practice and here anymore I'll have to load it on my computer and put it on my ipod. That's always in my pocket...along with a quotebook, flashdrive with my grandpa's journals and all my camp stuff on it, chunk of concrete from junior year of college (long story), a business card and a bunch of slips of paper that seem to accumulate as the day goes on. I used to write notes on my arms and hands to remember things but it's probably unprofessional to do it in public service so I write them on paper instead.

Okay so now I can officially review them.
Book #1 = "Hold Still" by Nina LaCour
Caitlin finds her best friend's journal under her bed after she commits suicide. Story follows her journey dealing with grief and moving on with her life.
It was okay, nothing I plan on reading again because it was depressing. But it was quick read with a lot of journal entries and some cool pictures.

Book #2 = "Revolution" by Jennifer Donnelly
After her brother dies and her mother goes crazy Andi's father decides to take her to Paris where she finds this diary in an old guitar case that belonged to a girl from the French Revolution. The girl was the official companion to the Dauphin of France - the son of the King and Queen during the French Revolution.
You MUST read this book. I can't say anything more about the plot without giving things away. But you MUST read this book. If you like Historical Fiction it's the perfect read. Even if you don't like Historical Fiction it's a great way to get you interested. I rarely read it but I was hooked from the start. It's funny, it's educational - I seriously looked up facts on the French Revolution and Louis-Charles after I was finished reading it because I had to know - because it's based on a true story. Read this book.

Library Goddess-isms...wait, do I have to do citation for these too?
-"Learning lamaze" lots of deep breathing
-"They don't believe in vowels, what's with that?" roster last names
-"What color was the car?...blue..." a totally indepth question...not.
-"Ha! plus five!" pronounced a difficult last name correctly
-"Donkey Hotey" okay...I can't explain that one
-"I don't care if you have a girl middle and a boy high or a boy middle and a girl high...school! High school!" yeah...haha, gotta include school on that one.
-"Take the call but go down the hall, don't say Hey by the door. We don't care about your hey." but it was like "Hey" as in "Hey, Ho, Hey, Ho" hysterical.
-"Have your dog look at it, I don't care." there were a lot of dog references
-"You will not get a handout for your marriage." true dat.
-"iPad, uPad, we all pad" I don't remember what we were talking about but it was funny
-"There's language we use with our friends and language we don't use with our grandmother." yeah.

Songs for the day:

"Write This Down" George Strait

think I posted this one during 90s week but it's been a while

Tonight I'm going with Grandma (26-year-old-coworker) who I, from now on, will refer to as "Slim Shady" because it's shorter and funnier, are going to see a friend from work's band play. It's Slim Shady because at inservice they made the people who were working on the software transition stand up. I said Stand up Slim Shady and it was funny because that's like anti-her. I'll make it work.

Out!

I'm a pancake. I'm a pancake.

Nice job, pancake.

Happy Women's Murder Club day everybody! On this day, like - holy toast - 3 years ago, the best show ever had it's finale. And I'm still obsessed with it. Yet another fun quirk.

"That's not coffee, that's diabetes on ice."

The Cop, the Lawyer, the ME and the reporter of awesomeness originated in James Patterson's Women's Murder Club book series (1st to Die, 2nd Chance, 3rd Degree ... he's up to 10th Anniversary) and took to screen on October 12th, 2007 on ABC. Did I mention I'm a fan?

"Do you know anything about her personal life?"
"She had one?"

Anyway, three years later and I'm still upset it was cancelled. Now, thanks to the BFF, I have a giant picture on my wall (that she drew cause she's Sketch) of the 4 of them with the tattoo design in the middle. Look to the right, that's the tattoo of awesomeness. Yes, more awesomeness. Everything about WMC was of awesomeness. Except, of course, it's cancellation. And switch in storyline, they fired the head writers halfway through and gave us 3 crap episodes at the end that completely switched the Kiss-me-not storyline. They were going with fairytales, then the new writers - I don't know if they didn't like it or weren't allowed to use it - then switched to this psycho's sister being dead and her keepsakes and...yeah it's a long story.

"Did you know that the crime desk assignment came with a pepperspray keychain and and police scanner? It's like my new Tivo, I can't turn it off."

Plus it was right in the middle of the writer's strike so it had awful timing and basically no chance.

"What'd you do, go to a biker bar?"
"I went to seven. They're a little scary. The people are surprisingly helpful once they figure out you're not a cop. Bikers are not fond of cops."

Anyway, Angie Harmon's got Rizzoli and Isles which is basically just like Lindsay Boxer moved to Boston and met another Medical Examiner.
Laura Harris had Defying Gravity and to my ultimate joy guest starred in Warehouse 13.
Paula Newsome is now a serial guest star in NCIS, Bones, Grey's Anatomy, Flashforward, and Parenthood.
Aubrey Dollar has only been in Ugly Betty, Cupid and most recently The Good Wife. She needs a permanent placement.

"Do you need me for this conversation?"
probably not. ask the bff. okay, moving on.

Aside from WMC day, work today flew by pretty quickly. Shelved then lunch then upstairs, backroom, backroom, backroom, public service. It was an exciting time in the backroom figuring out more quirks with the holds list. *sarcastic tone* No, I think we've figured it out, we're just pros and cons-ing the different styles internet explorer vs. google chrome vs. firefox which one is faster and can print and you can eliminate things and yeah. Cause with Firefox you can't print but you can do everything else. With Internet Explorer you can't eliminate information but you can print. and with Google Chrome you can print and eliminate information and it's much faster. But then you also have to wait because with every screen change it's like constantly adjusting its size so you have to wait until it picks one to move on to the next item so the speed kind of cancels itself out. If that makes sense. It probably doesn't.

And then, finished my book, wrote out my questions with time to spare. Now I'm going to crash so I can wake up early tomorrow for class and have time to pick up coffee for myself and the Library Goddess as we will both need it. BTW - my voice is also gone. That was a fun development throughout the day. I'm hoping it's back by tomorrow since she calls on me and stuff.

Okay, clip for the night:

"They" by Jem - great song.

Here's a video - the beginning amuses me. Jill and Claire went to Lindsay's ex's wedding (who's now her lieutenant) and Jill's boss caused this big scene so Jill called her and made her come pick her up and Claire was helping Lindsay work a case over the phone - mid wedding - and they meet up in the alley behind the reception and the bride like stomps out and yells at them. Hysterical.

It's NOT a club!

"Right...I'll hang...catch you on the B-Side."

Wake me when it's in the yard.

I stick true to my grandma’s philosophy on storms. We live in Tornado Alley for Christ’s sake. If we went to the basement every time there was a storm warning we’d never leave! Everyone would be freaking out about the tornados and the wind and the hail and Grandma would just go to bed. “Wake me when it’s in the yard.” Sounds good to me.
So, after hanging at Subway, eating icecream with some of the family we finally decided to just drive back through the storm warnings and the hail and the rain. Oldest sister followed me - M has school tomorrow and I have to work so staying there wasn’t an option.
And I don’t listen to the radio so for all I know we could have been driving straight into storm central. It could have been like a “That 70’s Show” moment. Have you seen the one where Eric has to go pick up Donna at the radio station and he puts in a cassette tape while he’s driving? Meanwhile, you can see the tornado in the background like tearing up houses and stuff. He’s just totally dancing and singing the whole time. Then when he gets there Donna makes a big deal out of him coming to get her and driving through it and he totally freaks out because he’s scared of tornados.

What a day, seriously. Worked 9-1 - staff meeting, backroom, backroom, public service. Got yelled at by an Aide, nicknamed by a supervisor - “big brother” and I are now the “Gruesome Twosome”. I told you we ask a lot of questions, she probably wants to run and hide when we come downstairs, then basically took off as soon as I could to head out for practice.
Practice was good, they were into it, I could hear them, they sang the right words, only needed to be cued a few times. We were like, they’re gonna pull this off! Like shocked. Sent them home and came back for supper in the basement. Lots of parents and family came so that was cool. Then upstairs to the classroom where we hung out, talked things over with them and all that, walked down to the stage together. Start like right away. I’m barely in the door when the first song starts. Song goes great, I’m thinking, alright this is going to work.
After the song…okay, imagine 14 kids wanting to be anywhere else. Now put them all together on a stage, staring off into space, whispering back and forth, arms crossed, messing with their clothes, it was like - people could have slept through it. Seriously. But, there were only a few times they needed to be cued so they were paying attention. Somewhat. I don’t know if it was nerves because of the audience or if they were just tired of it but I could not get any eye contact. Usually, I do motions and dance in the back and distract them so that they’re looking up and smiling and stuff - no, no one would look at me. It was crazy.
But it’s done, and I waved and it’s done. Back to having free time. HA! More time for homework maybe.

Speaking of, duuude. Have you ever read a book or watched a movie that you’re so into that when you turn it off or put it down you have to re-adjust to life as you were living it before the experience? This is one of those books. A book that makes me ignore the music that’s blaring in my headphones so I don’t even hear it because I’m so focused on what happens next. So it doesn’t matter that the play could have gone better. Much better. Because now I get to finish the book. Damn you Library Goddess. You and your good taste in literature. I’m toast for this class. I’m not going to have any time to do anything else but read Young Adult novels. But this one…makes that totally worth it. I’ll give you a Scale of Awesome when I’m done with it. 100 pages left, actually less than that, I could barely put it down before the play. I was late to the beginning of the potluck - which is fine because it’s a potluck so you come and go - because I couldn’t put it down.

Currently, I just feel like an emotional wreck. Completely exhausted. Work was awesome - til I got yelled at - but after that it was good again, the practice was good I was excited for that, then I went home and read so I was totally zombie mode for that zoning out everything but the book, then I started to get a headache at supper, but I got to see my mentor and hang out with some friends so I ignored it, the play was just an experience - something to scrapbook let’s go with that - I totally started crying during one of the songs not because it was good or bad just because of the melody and the lyrics which makes me a cheese ball but it didn’t matter, because no one was looking up at me anyway! HA! After the play was the awards, Nic is always good with that kind of stuff, then they started taking down the set decorations, we headed to get ice cream, I almost puked in the bathroom - when I have a headache for a long time I get nauseous. Ask Oldest sister, she’s got a fun experience involving me in a mall parking lot after seeing “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” with its shaking camera and my going in with a headache. And I love that movie! “Baby, you couldn’t find the button with both hands and a map” but now when I see it all I can think of is a bucket and a parking lot. After the ice cream it was the drama of sitting around waiting for the storms to move on. Which they didn’t so we drove through them. Then I was debating which was worse for my car - driving through the hail and the pressure of it against a moving car, or for it to be in a parking lot like a sitting duck with no where to hide. Which do you think would do more damage? I guess I’ll see what it looks like tomorrow. Then, driving back with Oldest Sister was amusing because for some reason, even though she’s older and has 4 wheel drive, I was the leader, or maybe those are the reasons why she wanted to follow me - who knows - so we were like waving when we got into town and I was going to turn so we were in the lane next to each other and then this other car was between us - pretty sure we weirded them out. But whatever. Now I’m finally back at my apartment, writing this, will post it, then read my book until I fall asleep like last night - I woke up with my book and my big fat cat in my lap. And like, he’s a big cat. So I don’t know how I didn’t wake up when he jumped on me, but I was out. Like out.

Now this is really long so post, then read, then sleep, then work, then finalize homework then get ready for class. Huzzah!

Song for the night - because it’s the same song, well kind of.

“Smells like Teen Spirit” - Nirvana

Here we are now, Entertain us.
Ah, the mosh pit. There were plenty of you at Warped. “She tried to crowd surf and the tide went out.”

Or the Moulin Rouge version

Outside it may be raining, but in here it’s entertaining!

"I left it on a cruise ship."

I've heard a lot of - well, I left the book on the plane, or the bus, or the train, or at a friend's house, but I'd never heard "I left it on a cruise ship" until this morning. That was new. And kind of funny. It helped drown out the "Not checked out" status that kept flashing on my screen.
-Not checked out
-I'm aware, this is delivery
-Not checked out
-Yes, you're coming from a different branch and were checked in there
-Not checked out
-Yeah, I know, moving on
-Not checked out
-Make it stop!

I'm posting early because I finally got my book and as soon as I'm done with this and eat something I plan on reading it until I fall asleep.

Today's highlights aside from delivery and the cruise ship - Had an interesting conversation with the guard. And as fun as pressing charges and waiting for everything to go through the system sounds, I've decided to just drop it and move on. It's not like that stuff was essential to my existence anyway. The experience was something to scrapbook and let's leave it at that. So, for those of you on some sort of crusade for me to date again - yes there are multiples of you - drop it. I'm done for now. 17 exes is enough for me. There are more but they didn't last longer than a week. It took me 17 years and 13 exes to figure out why they don't stick. The person I want to be with doesn't want to be with me. There's no one to compare to them and there's no one to replace them. I'll let you know when that changes.

The play is tomorrow. That's another thing I have to do tonight - text Nic and ask about practice today. I'm scared for her answer. I mean, I'm sure it will be fine. We have microphones so even if they mumble we will be able to hear something. It might just be their mumbling, but whatever. It's something. And it's not a big of a deal as it usually is since it's in with awards night and all that. I'm not going to freak out over it like I usually do. Just wave.

Songs for the night:

"Gives You Hell" - Glee version of All American Rejects

gotta love it - and first season because Matt's still there, i have yet to watch yesterday's episode. that'll be on my lineup of things to do this weekend after class

"Lot of Leavin' Left to Do" Dierks Bentley

i'm sensing a theme. catchy tune, awesome lyrics.

Tomorrow is work then the play, Friday is work then finalize homework, Saturday is class then going to see my friend's band play! woohoo! and after that is fluff.

Baby, the World Spins Madly On

The world has righted itself. Well, most of it. Life is good again, I think. I mean, I only had to "wave" once today, so hopefully the rest of the posts this week won't be as sad and depressing as those of the last couple of days.
Work today was good, I actually accomplished things between shifts aka paid bills, ordered boots for wedding - yes cowboy boots going to be a fun one - registered for a class in the fall, emailed my grad prof who was apparently looking for me yesterday, and wrote! Which was shocking. I've had this idea in my head for a while, not a Sketch and Edit, but a story I've been working on off and on since Fiction Writing senior year of college. And even though I really don't have time for it - which is when inspiration usually strikes - I wrote it anyway.

I still have yet to get ahold of book #2 which I need to read by at least Friday. I think it should be here tomorrow - I'm keeping track of it postage-wise - and if it's not I'm going to Barnes and Noble tomorrow afternoon. I only work 'til 4 so I can pick it up and read it all tomorrow night.

Thursday is the play - there will be plenty of "waving" for that. They had a trackmeet today so no school which means no practice which means tomorrow is going to have to be hardcore. And hardcore as it will be I won't be present since I'm working. I'm feeling more of like a consultant than a director. Which sucks. Cause I liked directing the thing with Nic. But Nic deserves all the credit, as usual, because she's a fantastic teacher, and I'm excited for Thursday. It's at like 5 - or the thing starts at 5 - it also includes awards night and food. It's sad cause usually Amber Squared aka BFF and Schwartz - even though she's married now and isn't actually Schwartz anymore she will forever be called Schwartz - come and watch but this year they won't make it.
I usually bring them candy so I'll have to pick something up tomorrow afternoon or on the way there Thursday. I'm headed out right after work then we'll have a final practice and send them home.

Michael Bublé and Sharon Jones - "Baby (You've Got What It Takes)"

gotta love it. although i think he should actually sing into the microphone instead of just dancing with the stand - that's a little awkward.

The Weepies - "World Spins Madly On"

Another great indie group, similar style as She & Him and Rilo Kiley
and a cool video as well

Alright, out for the night. Have a good one.

Just wave.

Oldest sister has this story that's kind of turned out to be a great life analogy. Basically, back when she was in high school, she was told not to ride on this guy's motorcycle and then of course she did it anyway. And, while riding in town, she passes our parents. Knowing she's already in trouble she just waves. It's a good life motto - along with "that's something to scrapbook". Life is crap. Or so I was told today. So the least you can do, when times are bad and you know you're in trouble, is wave. I have a feeling I'll be doing a lot of waving this week.

Play practice today was interesting. The performance is Thursday but there were no jitters. Actually, there was no interest at all. They wouldn't stand still, they were talking when other people were saying their lines, they didn't speak out - I was in the third row and I couldn't even hear them. I'm beginning to be glad this is only going to last 25 minutes instead of the usual 45. So, we're not doing commercials anymore and the kids gave up on their rap-off at the end. It's a whole mess. But, with all the bad timing - got the script late, during sports seasons, almost end of year and they just want to be done with school - what else should I expect? But whatever. I'll wave for that too.
And I guess there was good with the bad. They're all out of their books - except one and that's allowed because she's the reporter and can read from the script - and the songs are better than the weird versions in the script now that Nic has fixed them. I applaud her patience with kids. I only come in like once a week - well, now like once every two - but she has them every day. Yikes. See, this is why I dropped out of the Ed program. Kids...not my strong point. Good thing I direct a camp, huh?
Anyway, my camp director partner and I - because he's involved in like everything - hooked up some mics and stuck them around the stage so we should be able to hear the kids through at least the third row.

And, we got to talk about the joy that is camp, and the preparation process that goes along with and hasn't started yet even though it should have. I have people asking about information already, usually we wait to send forms out until school is out for the summer but that is coming a lot more quickly than I'd like it. So, I get the joy of coming up with new forms, sending them out, sending everything new to our website guy and hoping he has time to update it, plus do grad school stuff and work both jobs. This is going to be a fun couple of months.
After original application forms are out we work up a mock schedule and I start a spreadsheet of the campers as their applications come back. Then we have our meeting where we decide the specifics about the schedule. Then my director partner and me - and my high school friend if she still wants to help out, not sure as I haven't talked to her in a while - assign kids to counselors and counselors to cabins, finalize the schedule on an official form we give the kids, plan a packing list and send it out to all the campers along with information for the parents. After all that joy is printing out nametags for all the lanyards - and cleaning all the lanyards before we put the new ones in which is just gross - and then we're about halfway done. Haha.
Then it's songbooks with Liz - my mentor for all things music and camp - and I get the pleasure of writing and assigning skits for grades 3-8th. Oh, and assigning teen helpers to cabins and other stations. The teen helpers are always an interesting bunch. Either they're super excited to be there so we put them in cabins or they just want to get away from their parents in which case we put them at a station we think they'll be good at. I cheat because I get first pick for skits and worship with me and Liz. We get the best ones - aka play guitar and put up with our antics.
So, all that, while worrying about budgeting, volunteers, oh and this year we're going to have to find new lifeguards as ours might not make it. They're lifers like me, but all good things must come to an end.
Like I said, fun couple of months. There will be a multitude of waving.

Songs for the day:

White and Nerdy - Weird Al

So yes, I am a fan. And yes, I do sing this at work.
...
Sorry...Victoria....I can't pimp this video enough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkrbXvo5fVQ
Mike and Molly - Victoria steals every scene!

"Misery Business" Paramore

No she's not the brunette, hold out til the end. I was super confused. Think I'm still super confused.

But other than sleeping in - huzzah! - watching NCIS and Body of Proof, going to play practice, hanging with my family, then driving back here to my big fat cat there wasn't a lot going on today. Oh, I finished my book. Eh. I mean, it was good. But when I was done all I could think of was, "Well, that was super depressing." and "Why would you leave her journal there?" Tomorrow I have to find Book #2 and fast as I'm not sure how many pages it has. Gotta read it and write some sort of analysis question about the both of them.

Alright, out for the night. Hope you have a good week!

Smoke on the water

Fire in the sky.

A year ago today I graduated from college. Oh the joys. It feels weird because it doesn't seem like it's been a year. And I was so excited to be done with homework forever. HA! Speaking of, only 42 pages left in Book #1 for Saturday. Still have to get a hold of the Book #2, if it doesn't come in the mail tomorrow I'm screwed. Maybe I'll just go buy another from Barnes and Noble, but then I'm sure, the next day it will get here in the mail. Oh well, I will donate it to the library. There's holds on it - which is why I'm buying it and not waiting 'til it's available.

Oh well, today was less of a suckfest than yesterday even though I had to work all day. No patrons yelled at us, I think they finally got the whole it takes longer now because we're just learning thing. Secretly I still miss Horizon just because it was so much faster and the receipts were fast, and you didn't have to search for buttons because there were shortcuts. We'll get there I'm sure, but for now it's still frustrating.

These were the songs stuck in my head today at work. I sang them both. No they have absolutely nothing in common. I guess they're both sang by dudes. So that's one thing. But other than that, no.

Have fun.

"Smoke on the Water" Deep Purple

awesome.

"Word Disassciation" Lemon Demon aka Neil Cicierega

he's the dude that does all the 'potter puppet pals' stuff which is hysterical. Anyway, sometimes I sing this at work in my head when I walk down the aisles. Yes I do know all the words. But I've had it on my ipod for like holy crap junior year of high school that's like 7 years now? Toast man. Toast.

Tomorrow I have off from both libraries - shocker - so it's going to be play practice central. Performance is on Thursday already, I guess I'll see the progress tomorrow since I haven't gotten out here for over a week. Should be fun.

Maybe the parentals will let me sleep in since I don't have to go in 'til the afternoon. Hmm...

Right on walking on down the line...

It was a fantastically crappy day. Not just a crappy one, but fantastically crappy. You know the ones where like it starts out totally crappy and then people try to distract you by taking you out for food and then you actually have the afternoon off for the first time in like weeks and instead of napping as was your plan you spend it instead attempting to do homework but can't focus, so then you put on music but then your mind wanders back to the crapfest so you finally just give up and put in a movie, staring fruitlessly at the screen? You know, fantastically crappy days? Or is that just me too. And did I mention the part where you come home and look at the mail on your couch and read the letter from your vet about taking your cat for shots. A cat you no longer have. And don't actually know its current location because when your mom took it away you said you didn't want to know? Super sucks. Another new theme. Super sucks. It's something to scrapbook.

Aside from the suckfest I did get halfway through season two of Law and Order SVU - intro to Tutuola, bringing back Harper Anderson! hooray for that one, she's my favorite victim. And then of course Callie aka Sara Ramirez playing the crying mother after her kid shoots another kid. You know you watch too much tv when you can associate guest stars with other shows they're guest starred in. Like oh, he was the bad guy in that show, I bet he'll be the bad guy in this one. And bam! He is! total shocker.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be all super suckfest on you. Here, listen to a fun song that I find amusing.

"Your Disco Needs You" Kylie Minogue

And no, I have no idea what she's saying from 2:30-2:45, but I'm going to assume it's something about your disco. and how it needs you.
totally missing old school Kylie right now.

and watch this, it's funny.

The Nanny cast does the Hustle

I'm sorry but CC totally steals the scene. She's the blonde on the far left if you didn't know. I kept watching the show purely for the CC vs. Niles aspect. Hysterical.

Then read one of these, totally hysterical.

okay, that's all the funny i've got for you. serious music rec then i'm out.
apparently, when it comes to music, i can ramble forever and people have no idea who i'm talking about. or so i've been told recently by my oldest sister. she's says that i'm the queen of useless info about music and movies. which is funny, since her husband is the king of useless information in general. i'm wondering what that makes her.

music recs:

Embark the vehicle!

Location: Couch
Time: 11:28 PM
Music: I don't wanna know - Glee version
Current Work Score - 127

Family bonding moments from today:
-"I'm sorry creepers were taking pictures of your butt." i died at this, because its funny but also because of the blasé tone it was said in from mother to daughter.
-"Want some chicken?" my solution to oldest sister freaking out about taking the wrong road.
-"Well I don't listen to crap." oldest sister after i complimented her music choice
-"The surgery group" mass text group
-getting flipped off while driving, but it wasn't at me so it's okay
-watched the green hornet - super funny...once the storyline developed
-drove past our cousin and yelled and waved at him through the window, probably totally weirded him out

A work friend was telling me this story about this guy who stole a tank and how the cops couldn't stop him because how do you stop a tank? They'd just run you over. And I was like, that would be the ultimate car chase vehicle! Even though it's probably not that fast. But I think that now, the Green Hornet's car would be the ultimate car chase vehicle with the speed and weaponry. Especially if you have Kato as your driver. There's this episode of World Dumbest with this car chase and it ends with this guy getting beat up by the cops and one of the commentators was like, "You can always tell how successful a car chase is by how many cops want to pummel you when it's done. This one? Very successful!"

Scale of Awesome - Green Hornet 7/10, it was pretty good - there was a lot of fighting and funny moments. It had kind of a slow beginning but it got better as it went on. and James Franco! Huzzah! I didn't know he was going to be in it!

Just one tonight

The Doobie Brothers - Black Water

out!

Way passed bananas...

and closing in on the Twilight Zone.

Oh the joys at work. We are up and running. Hooray! But that means checking in everything that we couldn't when we were down - which was multiple days - and learning all the new procedures as the day went on. I'm pretty sure I drove my supervisor nuts with all my questions. But they put me and my 'big brother' coworker in charge of the holds. And teaching the aides how to do them. And it's just funny, because I was teaching one of my favorites - he's hysterical and super smart - and he was asking all these questions that I had no idea the answers to! But with some help from a supervisor we figured it out. At 5 I basically ran for my life. And tomorrow I get to do it all again! This time at both branches, huzzah! But now I know what I'm doing - partially - so it's okay.

Quotes of the day:
-"This shirt is older than you are!"
my coworker, who I like to think is the ultimate true librarian, was wearing a 'barcode blues' shirt today which was something they got printed when we switched over to barcodes on books instead of cards in the back. and it was dated 1987.

-"Do I get a cute nickname?"
i think i busted out laughing at this question because he just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who uses the word 'cute' but yes, he needs a cute nickname. Oldest sister brought to my attention tonight that I am much like my dad in that respect - giving everyone nicknames - mine from him is Dude. I have no idea where that came from, I think that's cause I used to say it a lot. I'd share my siblings' but they'd kill me.

-"So is everyone driving you bananas with all their questions?"
-"Oh, I'm way passed bananas..."

This woman is totally my hero. She has been able to talk me through almost all of my questions on the new system - and the ones she can't are questions of her own. And she does all of this voluntarily which makes her even more awesome. I don't think I would be able to manage all this pressure but she seems to be doing it quite well. I think she would be the Sky in our Dirt system mentioned here: My Life in Closed Captions: "Cause even after three text messages, four missed... and in many previous posts.

Songs for the night
"Idiot Boyfriend" Jimmy Fallon

since people were digging the troll doll's post, here you go. i think this was the only other 'song' on the CD other than the Hammertime thing where he sang a bunch of 80s songs over a background of Can't Touch This.

"Need You Know" Glee

slowing it down a bit before I head off to bed. love this version.

think i'm gonna eat some frozen fruit, put on a movie and crash. have a good one.

I'm the star of the keytar.

Apparently I need a social life. That's what I was told today. But I work in public service. What is more social than that really? By the time I get home I don't want to be social anymore! I'm exhausted and all I want to do is turn on a movie and crash. Apparently that's abnormal. Must be another quirk. Like having the urge to talk back to someone who has an accent in that accent. Or mis-matching my socks as my one workplace rebellion. Or wearing 8 rings, 3 necklaces and a giant watch. Or carrying around the same piece of concrete in my pocket for 2 years. Random lucky charm, I'm aware, moving on. All of these things are abnormal, but they're me.
And I have friends, but that's not the social life he was referring to. I don't have time to date! I have books to shelve, classes to study for, a camp to direct, skits to write, forms and schedules to reconfigure, a play to direct. Plus, this whole dating thing... you know, when someone flies 2000 miles just to break up with you, it gives you a whole new perspective on relationships. And the last relationship I was in...let's not even go there. I don't have time for the drama. And I'm fine with that. If he's not then that's his problem.

What else is new, oh Koha is officially up and running. After shelf-reading and organizing carts all day it finally started working my last hour. Hooray! Tomorrow I will have carts and carts to shelve. I'm excited. Wow, I really do need a life outside of work. But when you've been sitting around doing like nothing for the past week because there's been nothing to shelve this is big news. Something to do! And I get to go to both libraries tomorrow instead of just the one like I've been doing since Monday.

Music recs for the night are pure awesomeness.
Okay, so if you haven't seen Yes Man you have no idea who this band is. Munchausen by Proxy is a fantastic combination of Zooey Deschanel and Von Iva's musical stylings with awesome lyrics and fantastic costumes.

Here are a couple of their videos and link to a third if you're interested.

"Yes Man"

badass birds man.

"Keystar"

i especially enjoy 2:16.

"Uh-Huh"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sbej2SFRFBk
which is pretty much my thoughts on dating right now.

Also, the movie is pretty funny as well. Jim Carrey is always fun to watch, and they come to Nebraska! Well, they filmed it in LA but they watch a Huskers game - nevermind that we got womped by Oklahoma and it was back in the Callahan era. It was funny, when we saw it in theaters everyone booed when they saw him.

As for homework I got almost halfway through my first book this afternoon - now just have to finish that one and locate/read the second one. Which I think is longer. But it should be interesting. I'll give you my thoughts on them later.

Oh, speaking of the Scale of Awesome - Black Swan 8/10. Creepyfest man. Natalie Portman was brilliant, as always, but dude, there was some weird creepy stuff in there. Loved watching the behind the scenes stuff listening to Mila, too funny.

Okay, gonna make food, turn on the tv and then crash. you gonna judge me too?

no more sandbox...

Woohoo...spent my day in the backroom sorting books on to carts. Then studying our new system. I'm sad - they took my sandbox away! I liked telling people they let me play in a sandbox at work. The sandbox is basically a practice version of our new software. Which will hopefully officially be up and running tomorrow. If not I'm toast since there's nothing to shelve and only so many books to shelf-read.

I got a letter from the Library Goddess about our next class. It starts already in like 2 weeks! Lots and lots and lots of young adult books to read. Two already for the next class!

"I aggravated my old bossanova injury." -Niles

Alright, Carter and I are gonna finish this season and konk out. Last disc, I'm hooked. Nerd.

"Loco-motion" Kylie Minogue

awesome 80s, one of my favorite videos, i have no idea why. my favorite version of the song.

Hello Koha!

And Ziva, my first official post from my shiny red laptop. Although it's not actually all that shiny anymore. I've had it since like I don't even remember, like 2 years ago and all I've used it for is camp stuff. Forms, schedules, website, pictures, etc. Now I have all my files transferred over - music included, that took the longest - all that's left is to hook up my ipod and it will be official. Except it can only be synced to one computer at a time and if I switch it to here it deletes everything. Which is fine because I have everything on here now. But it like deletes my playlists too. Which bites, because I have a lot of them. I know, my life is so rough. *I can hear my sister's voice saying that to her dog...or cat...who's dumb as a post...* I'll figure it out.

Okay, first day with Koha, our new fancy system at work. Yeehaw? Well, so far we're only on its offline component since not everything has transitioned from the other system. So I got to spend the day staring at barcodes. No names, no titles, just barcodes. Oh, and I hit "enter" a lot. That was exciting.
Plus sent out the motherload of all explanation emails. But no one else was doing it. I mean, Superwoman set us up with some basic guidelines but then she left and all this other stuff came up. So I man-ed up. Or Woman-ed up. Let's go with that. Female solidarity and all that crap we say when we're playing softball. "Back up! Their women can hit!" my favorite quote from another team's pitcher.

Anyway, I basically came up with detailed instructions about what to do with all the stuff that was incoming to our branch and outgoing and all that while we can't check anything in or process any holds. Then sent it to the whole branch - but just the one, not all the staff at all the branches, that would be horrifying. I did that once about a missing item and am still spazzed out.
After all that joy I spent the rest of the afternoon in the backroom organizing the delivery, packing up donations and avoiding that dude that is trying to find a loophole on getting me to date him. Mentioned here: My Life in Closed Captions: This Magnet Moment... I don't date patrons! Well, not anymore. Just say no. That's what "big brother" coworker says. So I told him no, I don't date patrons. Now he's looking for a loophole. So, while he tries to find that, I'll continue to avoid him. Which is why this afternoon, after I separated all the delivery on to carts, I decided it was time to pack up the donations. And it worked!...until I ran out of tape. It was funny, because I really wanted to get through them all because we're going to need the space, so I scavenged the supply cabinets and found ducttape! But then I ran out of that too. Which sucked. So half the donations are boxed up and the rest are still on the shelf.
I had avoided him all afternoon until I ran out of tape - the second time - but as I was emailing Space Cadet, as she is in charge of supplies, I could see him coming to the desk out of the corner of my eye.
He comes to the side of the desk,
I get up,
go to the other desk,
open a drawer,
look for an imaginary object,
don't find one,
see him coming to that desk out of the corner of my eye,
also see Joe Studley approaching on my other side,
I turn around and head back to the original desk when I hear,
"Can I help you?" Not the person he was wanting to talk to but it'll do.
Aww, Joe Studley. My hero. He's the lead singer in our work band, btw - "Joe Studley and the Lost in Transit". Mentioned here: My Life in Closed Captions: Joe Studley and the Lost in Transit

Aside from barcodes, emails, delivery, donations and avoidance I don't think there was much else. Oh wait, I forgot. Barf chips and Face Aerobics. That pretty much sums up my day. Haha. I found the "barf chips", as someone had labeled the deodorizer stuff, when I was searching for tape - the first time - and the Face Aerobics was a VHS tape part of the donations. I didn't know there was such a thing as Face Aerobics. But apparently there were all the rage in the exercise scene. Back when VHS was still a viable format. I'm joking. I don't know anything about exercise trends. But I do own a bicycle. That counts right? Nevermind that it only has one wheel. Which is more of a long story. That I think I've told you already as well. My Life in Closed Captions: "Cause even after three text messages, four missed... Yep. Definitely told you before.
Crime-ony. Have I seriously been blogging since November? I'm going to run out of amusing anecdotes here soon. Next it will be all, "this one time, at the library..." That was my best American Pie impression.

I'm going to hit you with a music rec (or 2) before I crash and burn. Songs for the day, aka the ones blaring in my headphones while I boxed donations in the back, are older. Not like old but older.

Coldplay "Yellow"

and yes, second sister, i am currently singing jimmy fallon's troll doll lyrics.
I actually like Coldplay. I think this was their first major hit that put them on the board. Definitely worth listening to.

The Beatles "I Saw Her Standing There" performed live in '64

"How could I dance with her mother when I saw her standing there...." WHAT?! You mean those aren't the words?! Kidding. I sing it like that anyway, it's more amusing that way.

Out!

Farewell Horizon...

You will be missed. Well, by half of us. Although, I'm guessing the other half will miss it at some point during the week when we switch over to the new system. It's an open source program so it's supposed to be easier. Which I'm sure it will be. But I'm not looking forward to the next few days when we can't check anything in, or give out new cards, or place holds on material, and they need their physical card - not just know their number or have us look them up in the system. This is going to be interesting.

Actually, of all timing, I'm also doing a computer switch of my own. Pretty sure this one, aka Kate, is about ready to crash so I uploaded all my stuff to an external drive and transferred it over to my other one, aka Ziva.

I spent the day with Fearless Leader (That's what I'm calling her since she always takes the lead at work. She's pretty much awesome.) making our "you'll need your library card" poster. That we were supposed to do earlier but couldn't because we haven't worked together since we were assigned it. It was funny because - this was pre-coffee - when we were deciding what to do and I was like, we should just get like light bulbs and red arrows pointing to the giant card (we have a giant card on the shelf behind public service desks) and write something like "you'll need your library card on these dates". And she looked at me funny, and I was tired so it sounded stupid once it came out. It was one of those, this sounded better in my head things. So I was waiting for her to suggest something, instead I got "i like the way you think." So we spent the day cutting out lightbulbs and red arrows and posting them around the building.

"Barbra Streisand" Glee

I know I just posted this but I'm having fun playing a game called "Find Quinn". I see her once, when she comes in with Finn and that's it. I think she's wearing blue. Unless that's someone else coming in with Finn. Maybe if I watch it in full screen mode. Let me know if you see her.

"All the Small Things" Blink 182, Charlie's Angels version

Blooper real woohoo! love this movie.

I'm out!
