Yay for a day off!
Slept in, went running - I know, you're all in shock - and worked on camp stuff.
Patron recommended Doc Martin - which is yet another amusing British series - so I had that playing in the background.
So far it's pretty funny.
And it has Ash in it from Murder In Suburbia, which was my last British craze.
Ended after only two seasons, far too soon.
This one has like 4.
Or the library owns 4 at least. We'll see how long it lasts. Right now I'm only a couple of episodes in.
And then at 6 was the last class of the semester. Listened to the last two people present on diversity stuff.
Excited to officially be done until June.
Actually have time to do stuff now after work.
All-in-all a good day.
But right now I have a massive headache so I'm konking out.
Here's some music, have a good weekend.
Into the Sun - The Parlor Mob
another free one from iTunes from like a year ago, gotta love it.
pre-midnight post, holy crap tag in use.
I could write a blog. I have thoughts.
Life at the library, adventures with friends and other hysterics...

Two librarians walk into a bookstore...
Finish that sentence.
Basically, last hour of the day, Queen of the Known Universe says she's going to the bookstore to pick up a paperback they ordered for her, meanwhile I had decided that I wanted to read Silver Linings Playbook, but that the line at the library was too long so I was just going to go and buy it.
So we raced over there after work.
I won.
You would have been proud, we didn't fix their displays, rearrange their shelves correctly or yell at the teens who were throwing legos in the kids section.
Not our problem, we don't work there.
And that took incredible talent, you have no idea.
Because the shelver in me wants to scream at their organizational methods.
And the librarian in her wants to make things look nice and neat.
But we restrained ourselves, and made snarky comments instead.
The problem with working with books is that when I don't see a barcode on the front cover I like, pause, and then I'm like, oh yeah, there's not supposed to be one.
Neither is there supposed to be a date written on the bottom or a label on the side to see if an item is actually fiction or nonfiction.
I actually covered bookstore woes a while ago here: You Know You're a Librarian When...
We found some good titles.
She got her paperback.
I bought Silver Linings Playbook.
And Star Wars, the original trilogy in book form.
The boyfriend was oh so excited.
Pretty sure he was not a fan of that movie - Silver Linings Playbook, not Star Wars. He loves Star Wars. More than me, or so he claims.
Speaking of the boyfriend, so I might be going on a motorcar ride with him at the end of the month. If I can find someone to switch shifts with me that is.
Basically it's the one he looks forward to and his dad can't make it but he doesn't want to go alone so....
I asked the boss, will see what she has to say about it.
She calls him "Stude".
Long story.
I find it highly entertaining how fascinated people at work are with my love life.
Apparently it's highly entertaining to them because before him I didn't really have one.
Aside from all the crazies who stalk me there.
Where was I?
Yes, the bookstore.
We had fun, but we always do.
They don't let us work together often.
Mostly because we plot to one day take over the library, and then the world.
And she likes my signs.
I've decided to start an album on Facebook of random signs.
I used to take pictures of them all the time.
Back when I was a nerdy teenager.
Now I'm just a nerd.
With a boyfriend who thinks taking pictures of trains is better than taking pictures of signs.
Wouldn't even pull over to let me jump out and take a picture of the genuine legitimate "Beware of Dog" sign.
Which you only see in redneck movies.
Geez.
Anyway, this nerd is currently watching Murder In Suburbia, season one.
The actual season one, not the "season one" that they sent that was actually season two.
So far, so good.
*staring at boss*
Scribbs: "He plays golf."
Ash: "Why are we so deeply disappointed by that?"
Think Oldest Sister would like it - she's big into British mysteries.
Speaking of, I'm going to Squirt's track meet tomorrow morning to watch her throw and then me, Oldest Sister and Second Sister are gonna hit up the Roller Derby after.
Stoked.
Second Sister has never been before so I'm pretty excited.
But yes, off tomorrow, and Sunday for Easter.
Doing lunch with his family and then an egg hunt and supper with mine.
Okay, normally I would stay up and sleep until noon cause tomorrow I'm off, however, the track meet is in the morning, which means I actually have to get up at a decent time.
So I shall be crashing soon.
Quotes of the Day: these fall into the "things overheard at the library" category:
-"Oh, hand me the one with the naked dancing men."
-"Don't give me virgins, no!"
Don't ask.
Which means on to the music...
Originally the plan was to feature my favorites from Neon Trees and Owl City after Maroon 5's greatest hits, but I got distracted.
Anyway, these guys were great live, when they covered "Don't You Want Me" the crowd went nuts.
Well, the adults, all the teens were looking around bewildered going, "what the hell is this song and why do you know it?"
Here are my favorites from Neon Trees:
Animal
1983
1983 is callin' I've been on my knees and crawlin'
In the Next Room
interesting video...
Everybody Talks
another one you probably know, i've posted it enough. though when I hear it now I think of Michaela Paige performing it on The Voice.
Wish List
probably my favorite new original christmas song, like actually original, the rest of mine are all classics.
Tomorrow you'll get Owl City highlights.
typing in the tags with autofill, and "everybody" brought up a tag for "everybody has an uncle johnny" totally forgot about that one.

actually bought this one and their album before they hit it big - love free iTunes music, they do this single of the week thing and it was one of them, about a month later it started playing on the radio. He's blonde now, with tight pants and purple shoes.

i'm tired of proving you right by doing everything so wrong...
Holy snowstorm, Batman.
Didn't see this one coming.
Thought it'd be a couple inches, it's still freakin' snowing.
Libraries closed early today apparently - I wasn't there, but it's the second time this year.
But I'm sure we'll be open tomorrow.
The Powers That Be are stubborn like that.
So I'll have to get up like an hour earlier than normal cause I know I'm gonna get stuck.
Even with my brand new shovel and ice melt.
I did leave and go to Target at one point today. I made it there and back fine, it was parking in my parking lot that was a problem cause it was all drifted. So tomorrow's really gonna suck.
But I needed to get the damn candy bars and iTunes card for Teen Tech Week.
Went with those hershey's, mr. goodbar, etc etc mixes. krackle? Is that another one in there? I can't remember and they're in the car so I ain't going to check.
Anyway, nothing major, not sure how many teens are actually going to participate anyway, but I'm hoping more than two. I'll call that a victory if I get more than two.
Which reminds me that I need to send out a reminder email tomorrow when I go in.
What else did I do today?
Oh yeah, so there was supposed to be that practicum meeting with the Library Goddess at the grad school but she cancelled it so we're just gonna do it during our usual meet on Thursday along with our last newsletter.
Sad day, this went by far too fast.
I remember actually back when it all started, I had first entered the program and we were putting together my schedule and she's like okay "so you'll take three then and then and what? I only get your for two semesters?!" Cause you have to be a fulltime student taking 9 credits to be a graduate assistant.
And then I went to the Volunteer Appreciate Banquet and met her first graduate assistant who just happens to be one of our libraries' branch managers now and she was like, "oh yeah, I got 2-4 hours of sleep per night but you can handle it for a couple of months." "I'm actually doing it for two semesters." "oh....well good luck."
Ha, well it turned out okay. I was really expecting it to be more, like constant work and stuff but she's really good with scheduling and working around my job job, and she has another GA for the UNO program as well who's physically there. Works across from her and the Cool Aunt.
I'm gonna miss it, along with the program.
But again, don't take that as a statement about going on for a Doctorate. Our family can live with one doctor.
So anyway, the meeting got cancelled so I went back to sleep.
Woke up in the afternoon to type of the transcript of yesterday's interview and sent that in. Tomorrow I'll write the overview and comment on others' posts.
Meanwhile I finished Murder in Suburbia. Season Two.
I requested the first but they sent me the second.
Which I didn't notice until further inspection. The case says series 2 but the sticker on top season 1.
But I enjoyed it, gotta love British humor and Ash and Scribbs are an amusing duo.
"What are my rules about fun?"
"Not here, not now?"
So now I'll re-request it.
Now it's on to Lie To Me.
Carter's sitting in his chair staring at me. Usually he's konked out next to me by now but I think he's tired of me cause I was home all day. So now I just get the glare.
It is his place, I just stay here.
Alright, I'm off to bed. Early morning tomorrow cause of the snow.
More of Maroon 5's greatest hits, take 6.
Don't Know Nothing
catchy give it a chance.
Never Gonna Leave This Bed
I Can't Lie
another catchy one, one of those songs that brightens your day, quickens your steps and makes you wanna dance. gotta listen to it to get what i'm talking about.

Don't let the pigeon drive the bus.
So, today was far more successful than I thought it would be.
Seriously.
Woke up at 8, by accident.
Forgot to turn off that alarm.
So went back to sleep until 10.
Got up in time to prep for interview - gotta love phone interviews in your pajamas.
Diversity in Libraries, interviewing diverse patrons.
Last week it was diverse librarians.
So now I've talked to a librarian from Seattle and a patron from Columbia.
Missouri.
Columbia, Missouri.
Been an interesting experience so far, I'm digging it, AND I met that professor yesterday at that meeting.
Which I neglected to mention, I think.
I neglected to mention a lot, including a fabulous map drawn by the Library Goddess so I had to go back and add stuff.
I was half asleep by the time it was posted, but that's the joy of being the post-er.
You can go back and re-post.
Anyway, so yes, met the professor, interestingly enough - and I'm pretty sure she thought I was a total nut at first because she was talking and I like was walking past her and I froze.
Like froze.
And did like one of those slow motion turns so she stopped talking.
And I was like, "I recognize your voice."
And she was like, "okay?"
So I asked what classes she was teaching and Diversity was one of them and I was like "YES!" cause she records her lectures. But it's just her voice and a powerpoint, she's not in the picture.
I was quite proud of myself.
I mean, after she stopped looking at me like I was some stalker nut.
She was great, as were the rest of the crew.
It is a really cool program for them to be able to do this, huzzah for Distance Education.
Except everyone is making me go over there and walk for graduation.
They could mail me the diploma but my friends and family will have none of that.
Ugh.
Anyway, so there was that and I added the map and the Digital Beef so I think we're good about yesterday.
So, okay, yes, phone interview in the morning. Had to record it so I can write up the transcript later. Could have done that tonight but didn't want to be THAT productive, people would start to worry.
After that I ate lunch, made soup and didn't burn the apartment down, victory, then headed to work for Reader's Theater.
Okay, I'll admit, while I do direct and write half the scripts for camp, Reader's Theater is completely different so I was a little freaked.
But it turned out awesome.
Seriously, it was great.
Basically in Reader's Theater you want to focus on stories with a lot of dialogue because the actors are literally reading from the script so I had them go throughout the library and pick items they'd like to act out.
I was expecting things like The Hunger Games but actually we ended up with a couple of picture books and a spy thriller.
Don't Let the Pigeons Drive the Bus came first. It was actually really amusing - and they're rather creative - so like we made arranged chairs to make it look like a bus. And you know half of that book is a child listening and screaming "no!" at the pigeon so the passengers did a lot of screaming.
Actually our first take they just shook their heads and sat in silence.
That was funny as well.
Anyway, if you've read the book you know, but at one point the pigeon totally spazzes out and screams "Let me drive the bus!" and like throws a tantrum. Our pigeon decided that instead of throwing a tantrum she'd throw a box instead.
At me.
So I ducked and spun and kept filming, it was awesome.
And then of course the pigeon gets left in the end - oh sorry, spoiler alert - and the bus leaves so I kept the camera in place and they're all in office chairs so they all roll off in line while the pigeon looks all rejected and then names the book and says it's available in our library system.
So that was book one.
Second came something about a green sock, like Lizette's Green Sock I think, by a Catherina V-something. I could Google it but I'm too lazy. Maybe I'll upload the videos or send you a link once they're edited.
Anyway, we made green socks out of paper bags....that we colored with green markers. And then there was a pool and a squirt bottle and it had a rabbit and a cat and a mouse and a fish and a mom.
Long story short - too late - it took us like 2 tries but we got it.
Final was called The Killer or The Killing or something of the sort - it was a spy thriller so one of our boys read the back cover while the other boy rolled around on the floor avoiding the bullets that our hitwoman was spraying at him and the other girls ran across the stage holding signs that said "boom" "bang" "scream" and the sort.
Melodrama.
Reminded me of high school.
Oh god, what was that called again?
Pecos Bill and Slue-Foot Sue Meet the Dirty Dan Gang.
That's right.
I was Clever Coyote.
I got to dance on stage.
And had a secret handshake with Slue-Foot Sue.
One of my favorite plays, but the boyfriend's LEAST favorite.
He hated that thing.
Seriously hated it.
Think Oklahoma was his favorite.
He played the skeevy traveling salesman.
And he sang.
He used to be so little and short and cute.
or maybe it was Oh, What a Tangled Web that was his favorite. I was student manager for that one, it was sophomore year and my first high school play. But I knew all the words and would fill in for people during rehearsals, even being married to myself a few times.
But that was One Act.
Where was I before this tangent?
Oh right, so he was rolling all over and she was holding the cardboard in the corner and then there was signage with narration and then he went around and shot all of us and I fell over, camera in hand.
All-in-all I'd say it went rather well.
Cause they demanded we do it again.
I'm in.
Though this time it will probably involve Cod Sparkles and his library adventures.
Don't ask.
I seriously was freaked, but I was really impressed with how it all turned out.
So, now I have all the videos, will go over them and send them on to our webmaster who can post them to the library's website.
Huzzah!
After that I stayed and set up for Teen Tech Week. Which starts tomorrow.
Well, today, as it is in fact Sunday already, though this post won't say it is. 11:50 PM all the way.
Anyway, that goes through the rest of the week.
I have a feeling that that will fail miserably, but I had that feeling about today's activity as well and it turned out okay.
and Teen Tech Week made the paper.
Like the actual legitimate newspaper.
My pet project.
So maybe people will show up and participate.
After that joy I came home and did homework.
Originally was going to go to the derby but apparently it's supposed to snow so people were bailing.
It's cool, first bout of the season there will be more.
Think I'm going to the one end of March anyway, gotta love it.
Anyway, I wrote a paper and posted it, then watched Skyfall and now I'm on to Murder in Suburbia.
Gotta love British murder mystery series.
I already had Lightman's accent in my head, Ash and Scribbs are just making it worse.
"It's like graveyard jenga down here."
Flashbacks, haven't said that in a while. Gotta love Bonekickers.
Actually broke down and bought that one.
Indiana Jones meets CSI.
There's a lot of posts on here about that show. Think "graveyard jenga" actually has its own tag.
Yep, awesomeness.
And that was my day.
So on to the music.
Maroon 5's greatest hits, take 5?
So, found this video of both Misery and Give a Little More - both performed live@home...in France.
Handy.
But if you'd like to see them separately go here...
Give a Little More
Aaannd...
Misery
another one of my top 5, but you should really check out this next version too...
this guy is great, he's the one that did the Pitch Perfect Starships video, which I posted a while ago here
this is probably my third favorite version, my second of course being Glee's cover which I post after every major assignment just because I want to throw the papers up in the air like they do.
3rd and final:
Stutter
on a cruise ship.
i will never ever take one. ever. cause you're like stranded in the middle of no where and the thing's either gonna sink or tip over.
and even if it doesn't i'll be paranoid that it's going to sink or tip over at any time and that will ruin said cruise.
see, fishing boats and small stuff i can take, cause you can still see the shore. and you aren't surrounded by crazy drunken people or spastic children.
unless you're out there with my family.
kidding.
and it's not like i don't like water or swimming, it's just i've never heard a single good thing about a cruise. cause you got the Titanic, you've got the Andrea Doria whatever that ran into that other Stockholm one, and then the more recent ones that tipped over or lost power, and then at the home branch the Glee-Loving Boss was always telling horror stories how the boat was sideways cause of the wind and waves....
never ever ever.
Seriously.
Woke up at 8, by accident.
Forgot to turn off that alarm.
So went back to sleep until 10.
