Happy Christmas Eve!
Christmas Music That Doesn't Suck 2014 Edition: Day Eleven
Getting down to my real favorite songs here.
Carol of the Bells - Staring at Lakes
Interesting take on it. Love the accents. Give them a minute, it's worth it.
2013 was the Piano Guys, 2012 was Pentatonix, 2011 was Home Alone soundtrack
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Anna Kendrick
And see, you think she's just good in Pitch Perfect, but no. She's good on her own without all the effects. Crazy good.
2013 was Christina Perri, 2012 was Xtina with Brian McKnight, 2011 was Judy Garland
Oh Holy Night - Home Free
Yes more from them. Get over it, I bought their Xmas CD as well. It's quite good. Still want to see them live.
2013 was Jordis Unga, 2012 was Hey Monday, 2011 was Glee
2011 Day Eleven - Let all within us praise his holy name
2012 Day Eleven - To the Moon, Alice
2013 Day Eleven - From now on our troubles will be miles away
I could write a blog. I have thoughts.
Life at the library, adventures with friends and other hysterics...

you're gonna miss me by my walk, you're gonna miss me by my talk...
Rollercoaster of a day.
Counted money in the morning, updated the TAB website, worked the desks, interesting conversations about book preferences with Queen of the Known Universe, read Silver Linings Playbook on break, got soup for lunch, watched more Total Wipeout UK, worked more desks, checked in holds, sorted carts, read more SLP on break, then worked desks yet again.
I'm really loving Silver Linings Playbook.
Quote of the Day: "Question Four: When are you going to bring home that broad you're always running with?"
And Warm Bodies.
Oh, did I mention I got that on CD?
So I'm reading SLP during the day but I listen to Warm Bodies on the way to and from work. Right now I'm on disc two.
Book is super different from movie on that one.
As is SLP, but not this drastic.
Like the movie better on that one but that could change as I'm only two discs in.
Both good reads.
And getting me back into reading.
I haven't really read anything that's not class related since college.
Which is ironic as I work in a library.
But see, I'm surrounded by books all day, the last thing I wanna do when I get home is read one.
Told that to my sister who is a pharmacist who says she understands. It's not like she goes home and does drugs.
Anyway, seeing these movies has brought back my urge to read things that aren't textbooks or articles so I'm actually having fun with it.
No, seriously, I think the last novel I read for something other than homework was one of the Castle books.
The second one I think - I own the third but haven't started it - but that's gotta be a few years.
And it's not like I don't read, I can't say that, I do read my friend's work that I edit, and need to work more on that - and I do have a book copy now that she's officially published, but like other than that I'm really lax on my reading.
And I should work on that.
I just have other things going on at the moment.
Well, passed couple years of moments.
With work and family and the boyfriend and friends and classes stuff got back-burnered.
So I'm bringing it back.
Or maybe this is just because the boyfriend is gone and I'm bored so it's temporary.
We shall see I guess.
I have no idea where I was going before this tangent...
Oh right, today, yes it was good. Work was slow but that's fine. After work went out to dinner with the sisters.
Lots of fun, ate some great Indian food.
Had my usual chicken tikka, half of which is in the fridge.
Interesting cause we can have really crappy days and then dinner just heals all.
But we're goofy like that.
Most of the conversations I can't repeat, or won't repeat.
Never boring.
Now I'm back at the apartment with my big fat cat.
He's half asleep next to me. Keeps rolling over and staring at me waiting for me to lay down so he can finally fall asleep.
I'm working on it!
Anyway, I just felt like crap today, thinking it was the weather. Like dead tired.
Helped Superwoman make this blockade thing around the men's bathroom cause they're fixing our usual one and like getting up on this chair and back down was like, okay, don't konk out in front of your boss.
She will take points away for style.
But our rock display did turn out to be pretty kickass.
Dinner woke me up.
Now I'm zonked again.
But with good reason as it is already midnight.
Alright, on to the music.
Well this is interesting...one of my favorite soundtracks has now lead to a music video?! But there's a bunch of controversy around who was the originator.
Anna Kendrick never claimed to be, just throwing that out there.
Here's the progression:
Started way back in 1937, called "Miss Me When I'm Gone" performed by the J.E. Mainer Mountaineers
after that came Charlie Monroe's cover
so you add those to this clip from Full House:
and it gives you this by Lulu and the Lampshades:
then Anna Burden covered it and made it huge on reddit:
and after watching it 50 times Anna did this:
and she talks about that here:
(all worth it for the look she gives him at 1:49)
and now suddenly we're here?
there's a radio version available on iTunes, does that mean it's gonna get air-play?

as you walk on by, will you call my name?
Will be so glad when election season is over. I keep getting those obnoxious automated calls.
That I never answer so they just keep calling.
I don't answer if I don't know the number, especially if they don't leave a message.
Unless it's camp season, then I answer.
Though frantic parents do actually leave voicemails. Quite frequently.
So, I sliced myself twice today.
Both thumbs, same knife, once before work once after work.
There's a reason people don't trust me with knives.
It wasn't like I was aiming for them. The one before work was cause I was attempting to cook something, and the one after was me attempting to open a package.
Now I have both thumbs taped up cause the cuts are at awkward angles and the bandaids don't stay on.
I'm stylin' and will show off my war wounds tomorrow at work.
Today was nice, slept in - finally caught up on my sleep - watched the Avengers all the way through, did a lot of laundry, sliced my thumb, jammed out with my cat. Went in to work for 2 hours, came back, did more laundry, sliced my other thumb, watched The Voice and Castle.
The Voice was rockin' - don't read this if you haven't watched it yet and plan on doing it later cause you'll get spoilers - only lost two of my top 20. With Nelly's Echo, De'borah deserved that win - and was one of my honorable mentions, and the 2Steel Girls got beat out by someone else on my list, who's higher than them anyway, Gracia Harrison. And with the steal factor Collin was saved and went to Blake's team - I can see him fitting better there than he would have with Adam. Cee-Lo's team had the best battle of the night. Amanda Brown was another one of my honorable mentions and she rocked it with Trevin, glad she got saved and now resides on Team Adam.
Check it out, they rock.
With Collin's switch to Blake's team, and 2Steel Girls and Nelly's Echo eliminated that leaves my top 20 list looking like this:
Cassadee Pope
Castle was good, but weird. I could predict part of it, but not at all what I was expecting that prediction to lead to.
More on that later.
I should probably sleep. TAB meeting tomorrow and gotta get decent sleep or those kids will eat me alive.
Joking.
I think.
Where was I on the top 20 list for videos posted? I think I posted the first 6, which puts me at Brandon, Michelle and Adriana.
Yes, this is video heavy and it'll get worse cause there's more later.
I Wish It Would Rain - Brandon Mahone
amazing 17 year old, went with team adam
Proud Mary - Michelle Brooks-Thompson
awesome mother of 2, went with team adam
Domino - Adriana Louise
overcame personal tragedy and went with team xtina
That's 7,8,9 so there will be 11 more, hopefully they'll still be around through next week's eliminations.
Alright, and I feel like I have to include them cause I've been singing them non-stop since Pitch Perfect.
You're Gonna Miss Me - Lulu and the Lampshades
love it. my favorite comment on the video is "50 of these views were by Anna Kendrick"
so true.
but it would be something you'd have to watch over and over just to learn.
Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds
apparently recorded this song and two hours forgot completely about it.
didn't like it or something.
didn't even include it on their album.
which is sad as it's rather iconic.

"Aca-scuse me, synchronized lady dancing to a Mariah Carey chart topper is not lame."
Okay, so I would avoid reading this
post if you haven’t already seen Pitch Perfect as it is full of spoilers.
Unless you don’t plan on going to see it. Then you’re good. But sad at the same time, cause it’s fantastic.
Fat Amy is played by Rebel Wilson - Kristen Wiig’s British female roommate in Bridesmaids. She’s fantastic as comic relief. Reminds me a lot of Melissa McCarthy.
Anyway, here are my favorite of her one-liners. There are plenty.
“You call yourself ‘Fat Amy’?”
“Well, at least it’s not herpes.”
“I have the feeling we should kiss.”
“Don’t put me down for cardio.”
“I should have taken the cardio tip more seriously.”
“I’ve wrestled divas and crocodiles at the same time.”
“What up, Shawshank? Did they spray you with the hose?”
“Gonna finish him like a cheesecake!”
“I did, yet maybe I didn’t because I got hit by flying Mexican food.”
“Aca-scuse me!”
“Lez-be-honest.”
“And my real name is Fat Patricia.”
“Even though some of you are pretty thin I think you all have fat hearts.”
“You guys are gonna get pitch-slapped so hard, your man boobs are gonna concave.”
“It’s refreshing yet displeasing to the eye.”
“She could toss her cookies at any time.”
“This number is like an elephant dart to the public face.”
“We were the Menstra-cycles, John.”
We out.
I mean, you're welcome.
Went out to eat with the boyfriend's brother and wife. They are pretty awesome. The boys were laughing a lot telling old stories. Good to get some dirt on the boy.
Tomorrow is a meeting with the Library Goddess in the morning and Worlds of Fun with the Boyfriend in the afternoon. Woohoo!

So, I drug the boyfriend to see
Pitch Perfect last night. It was fantastic. And he laughed at the jokes too, so
I don’t think he was completely miserable. As I’m obsessed with all things
music – especially acapella like the Brown Derbies – I was all over it.
It was predictable yet not all at
the same time cause you have your token fat white chick – who really makes the
movie – and of course romance with the opposing guy’s team, but then you’ve got
the leader who pukes all the time, and then a chick who’s talks so silent you can’t understand
her – until the end. Then it was hilarious cause she actually talked and Fat
Amy came back with, “Excuse me bitch, you don’t need to shout!”

“Yeah, so twig bitches like you don’t do it behind my back.”

“Sometimes I have a feeling to do crystal meth, but then I think better
not.”
“Don’t put me down for cardio.”
“I should have taken the cardio tip more seriously.”
“How much have you done?”
“You just saw it.”
“Aca-believe it.”
“Lez-be-honest.”
“It started when I broke up with my girlfriend.”
“Whoomp, there it is.”
“And my real name is Fat Patricia.”
“Even though some of you are pretty thin I think you all have fat hearts.”
“You guys are gonna get pitch-slapped so hard, your man boobs are gonna concave.”
Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow were the leads, along with some unknowns. I’m wondering if half the actors were actually singers because the music is really good. And I know Brittany Snow was in Hairspray and American Dreams, but I had no idea that Anna Kendrick could sing.
Overall Scale of Awesome rates it
about 8/10. Part of that is because of Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins
as commentators at the competitions.
“The Sockapellas once again proving that it doesn’t get better for
everyone after high school.”
“It’s refreshing yet displeasing to the eye.”
“She could toss her cookies at any time.”
“This number is like an elephant dart to the public face.”
“We were the Menstra-cycles, John.”
“What an unfortunate name.”
Elizabeth Banks is one of the producers - you know her, right? Played Effie in the Hunger Games? She's huge right now. Anyway, Kristen Wiig was supposed to be the other commentator but she dropped out so Elizabeth stepped in.
After the movie I immediately bought the soundtrack, cause I’m a nerd like that. But you knew that already and yet you’re still reading this…Anyway, it’s awesome. But Simple Minds has been stuck in my head all day.

Basically every piece of music in the movie is some sort of mashup. This is probably one of the coolers ones.
We out.

Yep. Still in my head and I didn't even post that one.
